First time to Academy Sports and I was very impressed. I went for fishing gear and did not know they had that inventory and different selections. No other big store in Athens area has what they carry. Its a little bit of a drive for me but worth it.The only store I will purchase fishing equipment at from now on.
Went to academy sports Athens ga on Saturday Jan 9 2022 . My husband my son and myself purchased a gun a pair of boots and womens leggings n womens top. They have registers set up now where they give you your bags. We love in Madison ga. When we got home clothes were not in bag we called immediately the young lady said they had it she would put my name on it I told her we would be back following day to pick up. We got there around 3pm Sunday next day. This so called manager named Deidre wanted to know what was missing. She was very hateful from the beginning. I dont think Ive ever encountered an employee there this way and we spend allot of money there . She continues to search for about 30 minutes and walked back to me and said we cant go ind it very rudely .it made me mad just her attitude so I said so what am I suppose to do just eat this? Well a cashier next to her overheard and said maam so u know who you spoke with I said I couldnt hear her name it was very noisy. The girl walked to counter the hateful followed and here she came right back with my bag and said here we found it .when I started to walk off I said thanks she hey by the way uwerent gonna have to eat anything shes lucky I am a Christian lady n. They need to get rid of her she is rude to everyone not one person she talked to was she nice.
They have helpful staff and a great selection of shoes, clothes, and all the things a sporting goods store should have. The only thing that isnt 5 star about them is not their fault. You have to go at the right time to get lucky enough to score ammunition. They have had some the last few times Ive been but not much. You are limited to only purchasing 4 boxes which Ill this witch I also understand but is unfortunate. They do have by far the best price I have found anywhere in Athens to purchase it from.
I generally like Academy. Unfortunately this place was out of most everything. I asked for help to find something and the guy told me he was busy and attempted to tell me where the item was. Clearly it was not there. I was told I could order it online and they would do curbside.....doesnt make much since to me.
Out of a lot of stuff in the fishing department especially for panfish this time. Be sure and check your register receipt. I was overcharged on two items I bought, by a couple dollars each! Not sure if there is a price increase, and it wasnt noted on the display, or just what happened.
So went here on a Saturday night, there was literally one person working in the sporting good section with about 6 people waiting to be helped, I told the wife forget this and i went to get a hat. Found a hat i liked but looked at the checkout lanes and there was literally 2 cashiers with about twenty people waiting to be checked out. I put the hat back and we walked out, I would say this place needs a management upgrade. With several employees just waking around not doing anything how do you not open more registers.
I was excited to see they had my son’s size in Nike shoes. I placed an order online at 1pm for pickup. The order went through, so I was sure they had the item. A couple hours went by and I decided since I was going by Academy, to check. There is normally a greeter, but the day I need someone, nobody there to help. Someone finally came. She got another person and they said it hadn’t been picked yet, to wait for a text. At 5pm I started calling Academy. Not one person picked up, and I called each department. Well, I guess one person did pick up and hang it right back up. The. I hear a ding. Ding ding, your order has been canceled, not in stock. It was in stock when I placed the order. Pull said item to ensure the item is not purchased. Of course it’s going to be gone 4 hours later. Oh but the money came out, of course. Last time I deal with this place. Terrible customer service.
This store used to be good now it’s absolutely horrible they never have anything in stock, all the aisles are in disarray. The customer service is near zero. You check for something online and it says it’s in stock but when you get to the store it’s not. Seriously need to update the online inventory system. Not to mention in the middle of a ongoing pandemic every time you go in the store there are about thirty people there without masks on including employees. A fact that I have brought to their corporates attention and absolutely has done nothing about.
From what I understand we live in a plus size Nation. That means most of our population is overweight in some form. But you would not know this one selection that they have. Theres only four racks of plus size clothing with like five things on each rack. I was sadly disappointed in the selection.
Wasted nearly a week of my time trying to get an ffl transfer through them. Said theyd send in their license automatically, several days later, nothing, cant get in touch with anyone who knows anything about gun sales, supposedly the only person who can do anything with ffl transfers is the store manager. Absolutely ridiculous, cant even get any info as to whether theyve TRIED to send their license to the retailer.
Im not normally one to leave reviews but I think people should be warned that this Academy is not as good as it once was. Mind you some of the employees are fantastic but customer service and inventory leave a lot to be desired. I placed an online order for 2 hour store pickup on Sunday December 20th and received an email saying Id get an email when my order was ready. I never received said email but I gave consideration, two additional days, to the holidays and covid-19. It is now Wednesday and after calling this morning to inquire about my order status I was informed that one or more on my items were out of stock. I was then told a) even though the item says in stock on the website doesnt mean its actually in stock in the store b) I could call other Academy stores to see if they have the items in stock c) someone had started my order but not finished it and d)its Christmas. I understand retail having worked in it, I understand its Christmas but that is where my understanding stops. My account had been debited the full amount for all items including the out of stock items. The associate, while not necessarily rude, was rather dismissive of my concerns. Had someone reached out to me on Sunday within or after my pickup time/window I would have completely understood. However, here we are 3 days later and it took me calling to find this information out. I canceled my order since some/most of my items I wouldnt be receiving and will be refunded. I have since called the store several times seeking to speak with the manager but I cant even get an answer. I have long been a fan of Academy but I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere where the customer is actually valued.
Needed to return some items without a receipt. Agreed to store credit. $26 paid initially totaled $3.56 ,in store credit. Items never used, tags still on them. You know they will be resold at regular price. Customer service representative was rude and appeared put out.
I really , really like this store. Everyone is super nice, the store is nice and bright and the selection of clothes is always nice and always changing.Sorry I took stars away because the changing rooms and bathrooms have always been dirty whenever I come in. ( I come in slow times ) I have brought it up to management but I never see any changes when I come in. I can overlook mess but not if it’s a place that sells food or if it’s an area where I have to take my clothes off (locker, changeing, tanning rooms or Dr offices) no one should have to struggle to keep their clothes from falling on the dirty floor or have to keep on their shoes or sandals while trying clothes so they don’t touch the floor because of all the dirt.I still like this place, recommended it and will continue to shop here . If one day I happen to see that these areas are kept clean I will come back here and improve my review.
I stop by this morning to buy a cooler and I walked by the gun isle which had a line for people buying ammunition. As I was standing there looking at the ammo on the shelf an employee told me I need to get in line. I explained I was not buying ammunition is it OK to look and he said no. Very rude very unprofessional. If I wanted ammunition I would have got in the line to purchase it.
So my first time ordering from here was terrible. I ordered an item in March 30 it was supposed to be available for pickup April 6, waiting 7 whole days for my order for them to email me the day before pickup saying my order is canceled bc the item is now out of stock how is it out of stock now but wasn’t when I ordered it.? I should’ve had first pick since since I have already paid for the item, now I have to wait 7 business days before I get my $ back to find my kids another swing set!!!!
They really need to restock ammo and firearms but considering the way people are buying them right now its understandable. Also the guys at the gun counter shouldnt assume the man is the one in the group looking to buy one. The crossbow I bought is great! The .45 is also both are dead accurate.
We were searching for a specific item and a department employee went above and beyond helping us to get the best product for the best price.The cashiers & management however were not helpful at all. Our cashier rolled her eyes when we went to her line, she was inappropriately candid over her dislike of her schedule and dealing with the public in general.
Store is full of people. No one asked to help. Most employees, except checkers, are hiding out in the corners of the store talking or in their phones.Only 2 registers are open with many people waiting in line. Ridiculous.For a moment I thought I was at your New Orleans store near Stumpf
Usually have everything Im looking for. Today they did not. Bass Pro doesnt carry it either. Ill have to order it online from Tackle Warehouse. Thats why only 4 stars today. However, their customer service awesome. Employees were asking if they could help and several registers open to facilitate purchases.
Some friends and myself went there to buy a bow for my friends wife. The bow selection was okay, the prices where really good. The main issue I had was that they didnt have a bow tech to set up the bow, and the selection of accessories wasnt great at all. Again, though, the prices on what they had was excellent. And the sales men where very nice and apologetic about not being able to set up the bow.
This place is ok. While they have a wide selection in general, their pricing sometimes leaves something to be desired. Additionally, I feel that they run low on important stock a lot of the time. Their shoe section is often a mess. It can be hard to find help on the aisles as well. Checkout is usually fast. I generally will purchase sporting goods and clothing online but I may come here on short notice.
Great clean store. Descent prices depending on what your looking for. Gym equipment is priced well. The shoe selection is large but not very trendy or appealing. Luke they have allot of shoes but whomever selects what styles they carry is off. The shoes in academy are not like the ones in finish line , hibbets, or foot locker. Clothing is overpriced but like I said depending on what your looking for they have pretty descent prices.

2022-06-01Checking out at this location is usually very slow. I waited about 10 minutes to pay on my last visit. Academys strength is the large variety of products that are available. But youll be able to find better deals on major brand names at other places because Academy sells many of these items for the full, list price.

2022-04-13I was in the store on 4/12/2022 at 3:10pm. The first person I saw was and older man greeting people as they enter the store. He was very friendly. My next stop was in the fishing section. Found what I was looking for. Next stop the gun section. Only 1 person in the department at the a female, I ask if they had any Ruger Red Label over under 28 gauge. She said I dont think so. ( Would have liked to hear her say let me check and see.) I went on looking through the store. My daughter was looking for a small sized net for trout fishing. We could only find one that was dayglow orange, was a kids net. We go back to the gun department to ask if they have one in black. Now there is the one female and three males behind the counter. I ask I could ask a question they all looked at me and said there are a lot of nets on the aisle. To witch I replied Im looking for one like this but Im black could you check and see if you have any? The female looks on the computer and said no those are all we have. I had said we are looking for one for trout fishing. To witch a male sales person with curly reddish brown hair and beard said to me we dont sell that much trout fishing stuff. Wow this is a sporting goods store. (Then no one ask if they could help us with anything else out thank you have a good day. Let us know if we can help with anything.) They started talking like we had gone from the counter. Not friendly at all. My daughter and I continued looking around. About 10 minutes later we found a fanny pack my daughter liked but it didnt have any price tags on it or the shelf. I had to go back to the gun department for help. They were all still behind the counter talking. I just ask if someone could tell me how much it was. One of the other males said here I can sand he scanned it and said it $19.99 I replied thank you. No one said anything just kept talking like we werent even there, and kept talking. At this point no one in the store has said anything to us that showed anyone here appreciated us shopping here.We started looking around in the cooler section and a young man hows name is Dre ask how I was doing. I told him that Im doing fine thanks for asking. I told him that he was the only person in the store to say anything to us except for the older man greeting people at the door. We headed to the check out counter and waited in line for a few minutes. Then the cashier said Ill take you right here. Her name is Gwen, she is very friendly and ask us if we would like to apply for the academy credit card today you can save on todays order now. I told her no thank you. We talked as she checked us out. We paid and got our items she thank us for coming in today and enjoy the rest of our beautiful day.I have worked in retail for the last 46 years as a manager in the grocery stores. I believe that the people that get a head are the people that are treating people the way they want to be treated and will always be the reason customers come back to shop. Ill be looking for the people I have named in this review and NOT people like the unarmed. Because the named people will be making the difference in the way customers look at the company. Thank you go out to. Mr Dre, Ms Gwen and the man greeting at the door. He has a Name too Im just getting old sand dont remember it for witch Im very sorry. I will find out the next visit. 2022-02-04Good store. My only complaint is that several times I have looked online and it says they have in things on stock that they don’t. I have even ordered them on my way to pick it up the same day get an email saying it’s cancelled because they don’t have it in stock. I live 45 minutes from the store so it ducks to place an order get charged and drive that far just to not get what I needed then have to wait days to get my $ back.
