So I tried to return an item that I bought at academy sports the other day and was there for over an hour because they couldnt look up the item in their computer even though they had the item on the shelf for sale for a $69 and it was coming up when they ran the barcode for for like 69 cents it didnt make sense so they wouldnt they ended up not returning it and I had an hour wasted and just bad customer service and people that dont know how to enter upcs in the computer correctly and managers that are incompetent of their job and dont know how to handle customer service when needed thanks a lot academy sports I thought yall were cool not no more trash
Was looking for a lacrosse ball for therapy but did end up finding a massage ball that would work just as well although more expensive. Found some hiking boots that fit me for a decent price too and an off-brand pair of sweatpants. There is a lot of sports stuff here and I spent a little more overall than I wanted to but it is hard to buy shoes online without trying them on.
We browse Academy frequently with 2 sports playing kids, and we enjoy being outdoors hunting/fishing/camping. Always a great selection of different brands and options.I also enjoy the curbside pick up, however, it does tend to be a little slow compared to other stores.
I bought a truglo scope and other items here. I was questioning about some other firearms they had in stock; Customer service was great at helping and answering all my questions.The store does have limits on ammo and when they do have them they are gone. So early bird got me.
Clean store, friendly staff, and reasonable prices set Academy apart. There is a wide selection merchandise and easy to find. it is not uncommon to find excellent items especially clothing on a very good discount. I have never had to wait longer than two or three minutes when Im ready to check out. The store is always well staffed and someone is available if I need anything. Update: if you are a first responder or military/veteran, scan the QR code for 10% off or ask at checkout.
Went to buy a thread mill that was on the front of the sales flyer. Sad! Employees did not even know what was on sale. I had to point it out on the flyer the fourth time I was asked which thread mill I wanted. I was put in three different lines to try and pay for the item. Then they got the delivery and assembly price completely wrong. Manager needs to get a much better training program.
Found a pair of shoes i liked, Wasnt sure if they were on sale or not. Found a customer service rep and asked her to scan it and sure enough, got the discount. Customer service was great, cashier was friendly and I was in and out. Awesome. Store was clean and well stocked. Had tons and tons of shoes that went up to size 11 for women which is great for me.🙂
This Academy is HUGE! There was a pretty big crowd here when I stopped by on a Friday night. The line was long but moved efficiently overall. My customer service rep was very helpful and reminded me of the discounts available as a first responder/healthcare professional.
I love Academy Sports. They have hoodies my teenage son likes to wear, baseball gear for my youngest, and simply southern shirts for me. I get most of the boys tennis shoes from here. Great prices, good customer service, and easy to shop hours. I can never get out of this store for less than 100 dollars. The boys always need stuff from Academy.
I have been very pleased with the service and products so far. Went today to purchase boat swivels and seats. A young man assisted me and was very courteous and helpful. He helped me find what I wanted and to get it to the cashier. Even went outside and got a buggy for me to get everything to my car.
Probably deserves a higher rating but I only go for fishing equipment when I cant find it anywhere else and most of the time they come through but with limited merchandise because they try to cater to to many things and they have I guess their favourite whatever that is but its not hunting are fishing. But on a plus side their prices in my department are compatible with walmart. I will give them three stars because they arent more than a small bait shop as far as fishing
We need to re evaluate why we are giving these big box stores the money we earn by spending all week away from our families/friends at work. I had a recent experience with the company that left me flabbergasted at the lack of empathy or concern. The repsonse I received after sending a detailed email was a stock email offering 10% off of a $20 purchase. Wow. So, $2 is what my business to you is worth? Lost me as a customer. I will spend more at a family/small owned business from now on!
By far one of the BEST stores ever and has amazing discounts I only go for firearms really lol but all their products are amazing and will definitely buy sports attire from their! Only reason I don’t give them 5 star is cause they didn’t seem that knowledgeable about firearms and the associate was kinda an a$$ but the manager wasn’t so that good!
Absolutely the worst customer service Ive ever seen. I cant stand going in here. I bought some fishing line, had them spool it for me because I wanted to hit the lakes early. They put it on backwards, didnt notice it till I was on the already on the lake. Went back upset but still polite. Waited 30 minutes to talk to someone. Not coming back.
Stranded at the gun counter for 25 minutes with 5 employees talking to each other in the corner of the store while they saw me wave none of them offered to help me in anyway Everytime I come into this store its always the same way nearly impossible to get helped or anything I will not be returning to this store unless its the one in Opelika they get 5 stars
I rarely go to sporting goods stores anymore. But I needed some hunting clothing in a pinch. Academy was the only place nearby that was both open and had the gear I needed in stock the day I needed it. The selection was paltry (either over-rummaged or poorly stocked), but I was able to find everything. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Ordered rifle on August 6th for my birthday. Said it would.be in by 11th or 12th. Did not arrive and still is not here on 17th. Called customer care said 45 minute wait. Called store, they are useless. Check order status is suppose to have a cancel order button, does not. I want to cancel this order and academy is making it impossible to do so.
Awesome experience! Actually got curbside service. Placed order online and transaction from beginning to end was flawless. I was truly impressed. Some businesses advertise curbside service but do not provide it once you get there. The Academy experience was just as advertised. Look forward to doing business with them in the future.
This place is great. They have an awesome variety of sports and outdoor equipment. Clothing selections are great. Especially for men. They have a huge section for regional sports gear. Tons of helpful accessories for all sorts of things. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. If they dont know something they tell you and quickly locate someone that can help. There are always plenty of them floating about to help as well. No hunting down an employee here. They have a great variety of shoes including kids. Im so glad they got one here. It was much needed.
If you want anything from this store, don’t go anytime near closing or they will close the door in your face! I swung by the store at 10 minutes until nine just to ask customer service a question about a purchase I was going to make. As I approached the door, the store employee closed the door in my face and turned his head. As I tried to explain that I realize they were near closing and just had a question, the young man turned his head and looked the other direction. He opened the door to let someone out but still would not acknowledge me still standing there and promptly closed the door again.Gone are the days of customer service and gone are the days of me shopping at Academy Sports. I will purchase from other local stores and spend more rather than tolerate that kind of customer service.
This store allows employees to purchase ammunition and reloading equipment while on the clock before giving the general public a chance at products..I’ve witnessed on three separate occasions where employees are keeping stock in the back and telling customers it’s not available, then taking these items to the checkout themselves.I understand stock availability is limited but you can’t have employees deciding what is allowed to be sold at the counter and what is going home with them....
Funny you should inquire......I probably had 150 dollars worth of merchandise to purchase. Went to go pay for my items and you had 1 checkout employee working with 11 customers waiting to pay. I placed my items on the nearest table and left as a unsatisfied customer. I refuse to stand in that kind of line to give you my hard earned money.
We went in looking for fishing supplies. Overall they had an okay selection of lures and accessories. The staff was friendly and the store was clean. They have an excellent selection on Oakley sunglasses. Just an fyi. They have a little of everything for almost every sport.
This place was wide open, giant, and has a ton of great sports & outdoor stuff! From Tents to Tee Ball, they have it all!This was my first time going, and I was looking for Bike accessories. Not only did I find what I needed, but I found things that I never even knew existed! Its a great place for anything youll need.
Prices insane high. Better off going to Walmart. Also there curbside takes forever.Update. Have been sitting for about 30 mins...the person came out and asked if we were another name. Then came back to car with half the order....and now we keep waiting. Hopefully I do not have to sit here all day
Very nice shopping experience. Well stocked and easy to get around through the different departments. Aisles not cluttered, and prices extremely easy to find. Speaking of prices, love how affordable stuff is! And very helpful staff. They do not mind at all looking for an item in back or on top of the shelves of you cannot fine what youre looking for.
I called the Columbus Ga store and asked if there were any 10x10 dog kennels available. I was transferred once and repeated my question. The employee sat the phone down to go look. When he returned he replied we dont have any. So I proceeded to order one on the website. In doing so I was given the option to pick up today at the Columbus store. All of this transpired in 10 minutes. Long story short, they did have one in stock after all. Appreciate the due diligence in looking for me.
My daughter and I came into this academy to get a bathing suit for swim team. Though I admit i have a four month infant, and I may have been somewhat distracted… I believe that the sign said “swimwear 50% off”. When we got to the register apparently this one was only 25% discounted… It was explained to me that because it was competitive where it was not technically swimwear. Obviously this is not the cashiers fault... so I moved along and said no problem. Within just a few seconds a manager appeared behind her and they discounted the swimsuit. I didn’t ask them to do this… It was just that above and beyond customer service kind of thing. I was just very very impressed. I’ve never had anybody do this in a store before. I had to let people know That this store, is a store where the term “customer service” rings true.
I was in the store in Columbus, Ga on Saturday the 11th of January with my grandson. We were shopping for baseball equipment, bats, gloves, etc. Not one person offered to help us. I asked a young man for assistance and he just jestered with his head in the direction for us to look. I had to ask him a couple more questions and I could tell he was annoyed because he was rearranging merchandise. The manager of the store came by and instead of asking if we needed help he just told that young man how to screw a shelf together. I went in search of another associate and she was non responsive and angry acting when I questioned the location of a product. I finally went back to the first associate, apologized for having to interrupt him again but the store was in a mess, real disaster and I just couldn’t find a particular bat and glove for my grandson. He walked away without saying anything and never came back. A lady came out of the back asked if I was being helped but when I told her what was going on she just stood there and didn’t say anything......I told her that I would not be back. I understand rearranging merchandise is necessary however when that becomes the priority over customer service.....well eventually you won’t have ANY customers to buy that perfectly located merchandise. I would recommend doing that type of work after hours when customers are not having to step over, under and around things and your associates can focus on people who need help in what should be their specialty.I left that store very disappointed with our whole experience and went down the street to Dick’s and spent a considerable amount of money for several pieces of baseball equipment, was helped by courteous and very knowledgeable staff that took the time to make sure we had everything we needed in the correct sizes, appropriate age level and confidence in our purchase.
Love academy as a company but didn’t like the service today at the Columbus Ga store.. I am a lineman and I’m working in the storm right now and needed a rain jacket ASAP. My wife ordered it for curb side pick up because she had the dog and is also 8 months pregnant.... she called the store and they said she would have to come inside because they didn’t want to get out in the rain.... I’m working in it all day everyday but you can’t run out the door and get wet for 2 minutes? Ridiculous
Went in to purchase sneakers for my grandson. My only beef is they did not have much to choose from in the size I needed. Grandson picked out a pair of Adidas that he really liked and thankfully they had the correct size. I did not see a single pair of Nikes in his size. Coupon saved me 10 bucks so overall was a good experience. Would like to see better selection.
Academy Sports is absolutely great. One of my favorite spots to go for sports and hunting Goods even clothing and apparel. I love the sneaker and Casual shoe prices. their staff is very knowledgeable in the products that they sell and always are visible and readily available to answer any questions or give you any help needed. they have early and late hours which make it convenient for me to get there before and after work. a very clean and neat store. used the restroom while I was there which was very clean and well lighted. I will definitely be visiting this store more often.
I went to buy a cooler the igloo trailmaster to be exact, it was on a top shelf and would require a ladder, I approached a sales associate and asked him if he could assist me ,he saod quote(im off the clock but you can ask anyone)After standing there in the cooler section waiting on someone to either approach me or that I could flag down for several minutes I decided its not worth it and saved the $200 that the cooler costs
Academy has the worst fulfillment experience ive ever had with any company i have ordered from, period. I ordered 4 items, and paid for them. finally, 6 days later, they advise they cant fulfill my order. 6 days? really? Two things this company needs to do:(1) show the product is on backlog or out of stock when ordering, so i can move on to another sports store (Dicks). I will deal with Dicks moving forward;(2) within 24 hours, or 48 hours at the latest, they should advise that they cant fulfill the order for whatever reason,but nope. It took 6 days to finally tell me they cant fulfill my order. This is ridiculous! Ill never shop with Academy again. Dicks is 100% better, and they price match, so i can match any deal Academy has, and be happy with better service from them. Now it will take 7-10 days to receive my money back into my checking account. Bottom line, done with Academy. Poor service.
Everytime I visit this store and go to the firearms department I stand there waiting to be asked can I help you, The three workers back there just stand there and talk to each other. When I ask for assistance and what im looking for they act like they dont want to answer my question or help. Will never go through that door again. Three times this happened.
Friendly staff answered my questions easy shopping. Was shopping for a trolling motor I live in tifton and no store in my area stocked the motor called the Columbus Georgia store they had 1 in stock and held it overnight for me to pick up the next day stopped by the store the next evening and bought the motor great service traveled 2 1/2 hours to pick it up and they did what they said they would wonderful customer service
Good,,, but I bought an All Star rod at the Newnan store the other day for $79.00,, well the Academy sports in Columbus GA had them on sale for $30.00. They wouldnt price match. I dont get it. Costumer service looked like I was crazy. My wife works retail for a company for 23 years,, she said they do it all the time.
Went to pick up a weight bench that stated in store and in stock in Columbus GA. Drive there, they cant find the bench, theres not one even on display. I drive back home, look up the bench to order it online to have it shipped and it states, not available to ship yet there is a shipping cost above it for 10$. Call the store and they claim there stock is off and there is NOTHING they can do about it? I asked so what solution there is and was told there isnt one, we have to wait on one to automatically come in through distribution. No time frame was given. No solution or even a remote attempt of one. Good luck staying in business with that service! Wont ever buy anything from this store, not even a slim-jim.
Love the selection but the customer service sucks two Managers literally watch the line back up too still only leaving one register open while 10 or more customers just waited while only one register tried to problem solve someone issue about card with causing it to be a longer wait
Had an unpleasant experience here tonight. Spoke with a pleasant salesman behind the gun counter for a while and left to consider my options. Knowing that Academy usually has a stellar price matching service, I asked about it upon my return and was met with unnecessary snark from an older gentleman behind the counter. No, we only match Manufacturers prices, NOT sales. NO online stores, only the stores on the list!My wife and I were very taken aback, as we felt we had just been reprimanded by this employee for seeminly no reason. We said ok, thank you and left. We have no issue with the enforcement of store policy, but we are both very kind people and truly felt that this behavior was out of place and unnecessary, especially in a customer service environment.Ive had nothing but FANTASTIC experiences with Academy for years, but the way we felt after being scolded tonight will keep us away from the Columbus location from now on.Edit: For further clarification, I was 100% still going to buy the firearm at the price they were asking, but this employee shocked us into leaving.

We were getting tired of paying to much at DICKS sporting goods up the street.Under armor polo (never on sale at DICKS cost 49.99)Under armor polo at Academy 39.99 plus I caught them 25% off, plus I had a coupon mailed to me for 10.00 off a purchase of 25.00 or more.The little things count, those little savings generated over 5300.00 form me last year. In other words I spent 5,300.00 at Academy last year all because they were kind enough to send us a few coupons.Yall are awesome.
I walked into this store to purchase an item of interest and saw all these employees walking around and not one came up to me asked if they could help. I saw one manager or employee ask a customer that was looking at tires if he needed any help and I was with in arms length and the employee just walked away never asking if I needed help finding an item. It might be how I was dressed wearing jeans and do rag looking like I have no money, their loss.
Drove from Warner Robins to check out the river walk. Stopped in to check for a kayak since my local store didnt have any. Found one was intrested in. Marcus who helped me was super friendly and very helpful. I had some other things I needed to do that day and he held the kayak I wanted until i returned later to get it. Thank you Marcus for all your help.
Started going here for ammo after Walmart went crazy left and stopped supporting the 2nd amendment. They have a good selection of ammo and even carry powder and reloading gear. Usually pretty quick to get in and out because they actually have people working the registers.
I really like shopping at Academy! We always find what we are looking for. I awaited with anticipation for this store to open, mainly due to increasing aggravation with the other sports supply place with the mans name out front. Academy has very competitive prices, and a staff that are always helpful.
So a fitness machine was on sale for $100 off last week and I missed it. So now this week it is on clearance at $58 off and the manager is not willing to go down to $100 off for the clearance when last week it would sell for less than clearance price. The manager gives BS excuse that cant change prices set by corporate office even on a clearance item. Really, you want to move the inventory out of store and are NOT willing to match your own sale price of a week ago. Someone lacks business sense.
I have been driving to Academy in Auburn and Newnan for many years and was very excited to be getting a store that is only 10 minutes from my house. I have been pretty disappointed. They dont stock any fly-fishing gear. Their hunting clothing department is small. Their employees are, by and large, totally ignorant about outdoor sports. The shoe department is large with excellent prices so I give them a kudos on that. They actually seem to want to be like Dicks at this location and I despise Dicks.
One of the young guys was rude and then got to check out and got some shoes . They rang up 99$ even though the tag said 74$ on sale tag.Went ahead and paid it then as I’m walking out the door the website even had them listed for that . But anyway they were closing and Ofcourse they don’t care so I will just get shoes or anything else some where else or online !
These 2 young ladies helped me wayyyy more than I thought anyone would trying to find a specific item for my spouse. One was Cheyenne i believe? Cant remember the names. Very sweet people that work here. Dont have much for plus size options. Customer service makes you want to keep coming back.
The store is clean, which is to be expected because its brand new.What kills me is I went in there trying to kill time waiting for my movie show time, I walk into the store, and there is a guy just leaning against a display. He looks at me and says We close in 25 minutes and just walks off.Now, Im not asking for a lot here. I dont expect a red carpet tour of the store or anything, but dude, couldve said Welcome to Academy, just letting you know we close in 25 mins. Ok, no problem. Im not some punk kid, and I wasnt the only person in the store, so I wasnt that significant of an inconvenience.Everyone else was helpful and happy to do their job and help me out or answer questions. One guy even answered questions I didnt ask which was pretty cool and I appreciated his input and knowledge.Over all good trip, good store, but that one guy set the tone for the rest of my trip and put the whole thing off.
I have been to several Academy Sports stores across the country and this one is by far the most organized i have seen and excellent customer service. Normally I consider Academy as the Walmart of sports stores (cheap, messy, dirty, and rude customer service). Like I said by far the best Academy i have been to.
Poor service. Stop at customer service to ask about swing set. Was enter open line when the cashier told someone else to come ahead of me because they had a few items in hands. I had none. My husband walked around Lane and tried to just ask for her to page for someone to assist outside with swing sets. She rudely told him he have to wait. We were not assisted on so a employee at customer service line allowed a customer to move ahead of us just because they bought $10. We left without trying to nut $600 swingset
If you buy the wrong ammo dont worry about turning it back! They want take it, unless you just leave it with them.(purposely)They can expose of it when theyre a FFL dealer. No refund, No exchange! Other then being one of the customers that spends real money regular, I will go back and back...
The overall visit was good your people and the arkirie section is whale versatile with the type of things we would look at was looking at the crossbows the their very well knowledgeable the elder 2nd we was and was the fishing section and we could get no help from nobody in the fishing section.
Sales associate Brandon top notch!!!! He helped with not only loading a fully assembled elliptical and bike into my vehicle but even helped with a price discrepancy issue. He is definitely a keeper and a model of what great customer service is all about!! Thank you Brandon!!!
I love the place it got so much to explore and learn....However been there 3 times trying to buy a treadmill and there is NO ONE to help...i went to the register and cashier was so rude( she didnt spoke to me a single word, she was eating and keep on eating once i walked to her) she rang up the item i had told me its $9.72 and thats all i heard from her so i didnt even ask her nothing...🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️

2022-05-03I would like to recognize Janet AND Vicky. Janet went out of her way to help me in another Dept and waited for me while I tried on an item she was so courtesy and professional. Shes a keeper. Vicky had a pleasant smile and demeanor her personality is perfect for Academy. Thanks again ladies you both made my shopping GREAT.

2022-05-20Found a great deal on a safe at academy. Tim working in the hunting area took great care of us by locating it in the back and bringing it up to the front and helped us even load it. Great customer service is why I continue to shop there. Thanks again Tim for your time and help

2022-05-10They dont know what they are doing, the employees are totally lost. Called and asked if they had an item in stock, gave them the item number and was assured they had gotten a shipment in and had a hundred of them. Made the 30 minute drive and when I got there what they had was all the wrong size. They spent 45 minutes searching the computer to figure out what they did have. Unorganized, no one knows what they are doing.

2022-04-12They have an excellent fishing lure selection and rod selection. I wish they had more trouble hooks and feathered troubles and red treble hooks had to go somewhere else to find them but I found a bunch of really nice hard to find lures there which They carried more storm lures.... But overall a great selection and the academy sports brand lures are extremely affordable prices especially for their swimbaits

2022-02-28I purchased shoes online and needed to exchange for different size only. I had deleted my email and couldn’t recover the receipt through email . Because of this Academy offered the lowest price possible on these shoes which was $25.00 less than what I paid purchasing them online! This is ridiculous and completely rips customers off!! All I wanted to do was swap them out for the right size!!!!
