I dont think Ive ever experienced worse customer service. I ordered online and scheduled for curbside pickup. After taking over 30 minutes, I decided to go inside. Stood around for 10 minutes, 3 employees looked at me waiting by the pickup counter and did not acknowledge me. I went to stand in the long line (they only had 2 lines open). The guy told me he could help me, but after giving him my order he let me know it hasnt been pulled yet and I would need to walk to the back of the store to get it myself. Turns out, they didnt even have the item. After ONE HOUR waiting, my order was cancelled and I left without anything. This is the second time Ive waited for far too long with curbside pickup - I do NOT recommend this Academy. They have 0 care for customers.
Great people work here!! What a wonderful group of people!!! My grandson had tore the sole of a 70$ pair of Gym shoes that I had just bought him. It was a defective material and should have lasted longer that a month.The staff exchanged the pair and made my grandson the happiest kid ever!!What great service!!! Ya didnt have to but you did!!!
Called to check if they had an item in stocks. Employee on the phone did not know if they had the item, and they would not check, they recommended ordering it on line. I need this item today, I will go to another sporting goods store where I know they will have it. Academy Sports, you have become Sports Authority
Ordered a scope online for pickup. Get to the store and they don’t have it. They would only give me the display model which everyone put there hands on and the battery is dead. I paid for a new one. I said if your giving me the used one can I get a discount? I have to buy a better and the class is dirty. They said no we don’t give discounts for display models. This is the second scope I buy and they try to give me a used one. The last time parts were missing. Lol. Academy Sports is run by kids.
Plenty of employees. None are actually willing to help customers. Asked three having a personal conversation for help finding something. They paused their conversation.l for less than a minute to point me in a nonspecific general direction. Then go to the check out on there is only one cashier working but can see 5 employees just standing around. Inventory is good. Customer Service has a lot of room for improvement.
I called and spoke with an employee Connor about a bike that was in stock at this location. I explained I lived 45 minutes from the store and the employee said he would save it for 1 hour. Great!I arrive at the store and the bike is no where to be found. The employees and myself looked for 30 minutes. Scotty was a great help in looking in the back but still no luck. Manager Joey comes to assist luckily we found out what happened ed and that Connor didnt physically look for the bike and also denied speaking to anyone on the phone. Which was quite infuriating. Unfortunately we didnt get the bike we originally wanted but Joey and Scotty took care of us in the end. SoThank you to Joey, Scotty and Ty for your wonderful customer service. As for Connor do better.
Academy (Hiram, GA) is lacking in customer service. I waited 30 min for a curbside pick up after receiving confirmation that I was checked in. Finally, I unloaded myself and three kids to go inside. The employee offered no apology for the delay. I was handed my bags, and the employee left. I called to speak with a manager, and the employee kept hanging up with me rather than putting me on hold. I tried to leave feedback on my order through the email confirmation, but there was not a place to do so. This is the second time that I have had a similar curbside experience. It appears that Academy in Hiram doesn’t care about the customer experience. They must be doing fine financially without having to worry about losing customers to poor service.
Nice clean facility and the staff behind the firearm/sports counter are very pleasant to talk to and have a relatively good knowledge of the product. They also have some ammo here, which is good since it is still hard to find. Never have had an issue at this location, and I dont foresee a reason to have one.
I am only giving two stars because in the past this has been a good store with good service. I came to pick up shirts I had ordered on line. The line for the Pick up was backed up into the isles because they were checking out people just for purchases in the pick up line. I was told by the person behind the counter to go back and ask for it to be delivered to my car. When I complained to Ashley about the line she answered in a very bad manner Well thats what curbside is for, and you need to park where the sign says she said this after I had explained we were parking where we were because it was so hot. This was the very reason I did not want curbside to begin with. If I wanted curbside I would have asked for it. This was the worst customer service ever. Ashley needs to learn how to give proper customer service, not argue with the customer and the customer is always right. She should have apologized and let it go!
Rude manager and se very cold customer service rep when I came to the store as well as other people looking for SEC football championship jersey for Alabama. The night of the game was told no jersey available but to come back in the morning. When I did received a very cold reception but a rep and a manager when I asked for jersey.
I ordered shoes on 9/11 for 2 hour pick up...didnt get a message until the next day, so I go up there let them know Im there and sit.. FOR 15 MINUTES before I went in there. Mind you it was like 10am.... this isnt the first problem I had here. Very upset guess ill be using a different Academy
Had a $3 price increase from the garment tag and what I paid at checkout that I didnt catch till I got home. After mentioning this on the feedback survey, the manager called me within an hour to apologize and offer coupons and gift card to cover the error.Very pleasantly surprised! Impressed by the old-school customer service - will definitely continue shopping here!
I went there yesterday to pick up some biking equipment. There were two lanes open. I got in one and was behind two people and a family came up behind me. The young man in front of me was offered that credit card deal or something and he said yes, so that took some time....no problem with that. The cashier was very pleasant and upbeat with the customer, he then turned to me and said that he was closing and that I could go to the other register. At that time there were two people in that line and a third couple walked up as he told me that. I said I have to wait in another line? He then said I can ring you up. I turned to the family behind me and told them what happened. They were livid but walked to the other line. The problem with this is that the cashier did not turn off his light and should had announced that the couple behind me was last and then turn off his light. I was so mad that I no longer wanted my product and left it on the counter and departed the area, but I did advise to to the person in the front of my experience. This was the store in Hiram, GA on Jimmy Lee Smith Pkwy at around 6:40pm on 30 May 2021.
I basically gave up on checking out. No acknowledgement from management or apology for the poor timeliness of getting checked out. Hadnt happened in past not sure what was going on. Staff meeting at the register?? Not sure! But Ieft without the items I was there to purchase.
Love this place, they always have the steel toed shoes I need for work. Was very happy I got in and out very quickly. Was really surprised to see an employee at the customer service desk without a mask, figured all retail stores are requiring there employees to wear a mask.
Went specifically to get my brother a shirt. They had some awesome shirts from Magellan at good prices so I bought two. Magellan current has some Georgia branded shirts they are so cute! I go a camping one, and one with a colorful crab for my brother. Pric s were very good too.
Wouldn’t even give firearms one star. Worst customer service we’ve ever received. Two workers behind the counter but apparently one was only for conversing with his friends. Other had very little knowledge about what they offered or sold. Firearm I came to purchase was on sale via email. Employee searched two vaults and just couldn’t understand why he couldn’t locate the firearm. Kept saying well my system shows we have 8 in store. Never located and manager wasn’t to be found. After 45 minutes he offers to sell me display but at same price. No thank you. I ask him if he’d call another location to see if they had the firearm. He said I can give you the phone number. Just poor poor customer service. If you can call it service. It was a big joke. Never to return to Hiram location.
I have shopped here several times in the past,but today was the biggest disappointment. Shelves were almost empty. Prices seemed way to high. Shoe department had nothing to choose from and what you did find they didn’t have in your size. Not sure I will be returning to Academy.
Worst customer service. Called several times to talk with someone about an order I had already paid for and the girl on the phone thought it would be funny to leave me on hold and than hang up. Id understand if I was belligerent, but I was literally as nice as possible. Apparently when you ask to speak with a manager youre immediately deemed disgruntled. How is that kind of behavior okay at a place of business??
Every time I have gone in here, it has been great. Everyone is so nice. It is well lit. It is easy to find what you are looking for. I like that they have our sports teams. Also, the staff has always been very knowledgeable on their department and what products are in it. The prices and deal are also pretty awesome as well. There was also one day I walked in and saw that one employee had a service dog which I thought was so awesome! I am glad this store is inclusive! I highly recommend shopping at this location!
Was in the market for an inversion table. The website showed at that location the table I was looking for. They didnt have that table in stock. There was another one but it was not the right weight for my body type. Ended up spending an extra $100. The checkout was super slow.
Academy has advertised store/curbside pickup but this store has not processed how to effectively managed their orders. Store/curbside pickup theoretically should improve their efficiency but unfortunately they were unable to deliver my order in a timely manner. It took over half an hour to receive my order after several attempts of reaching the store. Very dissatisfied with the service and will no longer patronize this specific store.
So I went into the store looking for a stun gun and according to the internet there were several types that were suppose to be in this store so as Im walking I cant find a single employee anywhere to help find this item. So eventually I found it on my own then when I found the aisle they only had one stun gun which was cheap and way over expensive. Its unfortunate that I wasted my time coming here maybe they should check there inventory before advertising it online. Also it just seems its never busy maybe its because of there High expensive retail items you find in there where other places are 10-15 percent mark down cheaper.q
“Could not use my Georgia carry permit” because it didn’t have the right address even though I had my license too! Was told 4 different answers as to why considering I have bought multiple guns from here before the same way and never had a problem! Was told by Cartersville manager that every answer they gave was completely wrong! Will not give business here anymore will go to Cartersville or Kennesaw before I go here.
I either receive exceptional service or very poor service. Friday was poor. One clerk was rude twice. I was exchanging an item for a different size. I waited in line and when she finished helping the person in front of me, she turned to watch the cashier. I moved to the counter, caught her attention and said I wanted to return a Christmas present for a different size. She took the garment, folded it, placed it on the counter behind her and then started watching the cashier again. After a minute (yes), she turned around to tell me that I could look for the garment. Unfortunately, they didnt have a medium in stock. My second experience with her wasnt any better. No smiles, polite tones in her voice or helpful attitude. I can take my business elsewhere.
I found what Ive needed plus there actually still is customer service these days at least at this location Ive been to but Ive not visited another so idk. However here if you cant find your size shoe they will try to find it online order it for you to pickup or get delivered. When I needed advice on protein drinks for a football player in my family, it was nice to talk to someone working there who experienced football themselves and helped me with ideas. The ppl that work here really are helpful and give personal service.
Trying to make a purchase in the fitness department. We had to ask for help 3 times, no one ever showed up. Finally asked for the manager. He helped us but seemed put out that he had to do it. We would have just left but the item we wanted was on sale for Labor Day only.
We needed chairs for an outdoor event my family and I planned to attend - tried about every chair in the store but hadnt found the right one. Nick asked if he could help so we accepted his offer. This young man went way above and beyond to help us - explained differences in the different styles - even went to get a flat cart when we decided on the 6 we were going to purchase. I thought that was where the service would end but it didnt, he loaded the chairs, then loaded the easy up tent we selected, pulled the cart to the register, then helped me load the chairs in the car. I have read comments regrading poor service at this store - maybe this is where they turn the corner! Great Job Nick!
My first time going into store with purpose of purchasing athletic gear, My sons first year in rec baseball. The store was pretty easy to navigate on where id find what id need, even I did need help the employees were very kind and helpful and made sure I was getting the correct gear for my son. The prices were much lower than I expected. Will def be returning for all sports gear.
Just wanted to give a shout out to Jaylin and Andrea who were working in the shoe department! They were so kind and helpful in our search for a specific shoe in my sisters size. They spent a lot of time with us going through the shoes and eventually found the shoe at another location. We really appreciated all of the time and effort they put in to help us out. They never made us feel uncomfortable due to the long search; because of them my sister will have a great pair of shoes for work and Academy Sports will definitely have our business again!
Ordered two items very early in the morning (3 hours before the store was scheduled to open), when they still had several that just arrived in stock, only to have my order randomly cancelled an hour later saying they no longer had them in stock. Plus it will be a week before my money is credited back on my card. Highly disappointed and upset!
Employees are awful . They not only are extremely rude but have very little knowledge on the equipment they sell. Prices are wrong. This was the second time we purchase 2.5 weights for 1.73 and was rang up for 1.99 the first time we let it slide this time we said something and it took another 15 min to fix the issue . Needless to say will NOT BE returning would rather take the drive to kennesaw or douglasville
Worst service I have ever had, and I shop at Walmart...I waited in line for 20 minutes at the gun counter. I was the second person on line, there was one person working the counter. Two people came in line after me. The next associate then began helping people from the back of the line forward.What is the point of the take a number system if you are going to completely disregard it.I will not be coming back
Academy in Hiram I gave you only 2 stars because You have dozens and dozens of mens work boots and all styles and sizes. You have Only two styles of womens work boots and you cant even keep them stocked in needed sizes. I was unable to purchase what I needed today. Bates Ultra lights.I despise trying to buy shoes with out being able to try them on. I also did not have time to wait on delivery.
Bought AR 15 from there. Took to range would not fire. Tried 6 different magazines, 5 different types of ammo.Had a fun day PLANNED. Gunsmith at range said it was not manufactured correctly after taking it in back and running gauges on it. Took back to store. Since gun was removed from store. (i guess I should have shot it in the store to make sure it worked before leaving) it was now a used gun and they would not refund my money, exchange, or send back to manufacturer (in Alabama). Instead gun was sent to Minnesota where estimated repair time is 3-4 weeks. STOPPED BY ACADEMY SPORTS IN TWO OTHER CITIES, THEY ALL TOLD ME THE GUN SHOULD HAVE BEEN INTERMEDIATELY SENT BACK TO MANUFACTURER, REPLACED AND I WAS GETTING THE RUN AROUND. Would any other business be allowed to function like this. This is like reverse Popeye, Pay for a hamburger you can have in a month. I am so glad I could loan Academy sports $ 700.00 for a month interest free. I wish I could get deals like that. Now I will have a repaired (not new functioning) firearm which I will always wonder if it can be trusted. I USED TO SPEND A DECENT AMOUNT OF MONEY IN THIS STORE, BUT DOUGLASVILLE AND KENNESSAW ARE NOT THAT FAR AWAY
The Manager here was extremely rude, racist and ignorant. She called the police on me for open carrying my firearm, which is perfectly legal since I have a carry permit, then asked me to leave... while I I was waiting to check out with overa$150 worth of merchandise, the police never said a word to me by the way. I think this woman was just scared of guns, and needed the police there to have the courage to ask me to leave. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense since the store sells firearms, ammunition etc. The corporate office did nothing for me when I called to complain about the HORRIBLE way I was treated. I will never step foot in this establishments again and rexcomend the same for everyone else.
Went here last night. Bought some ammo, couple ammo boxes and a new scope this lady that rang me up was rude and didnt care about my product. She didnt say hello or anthing like that. She started ringing up my stuff put my scope in the bag and the ammo boxes. I asked if she could put the ammo in Separate bag. She took the bad with the scope off the bag rack and dropped it to where my scope bounces on the counter top. Then charges me double for my ammo. I told her and she didnt apologize refunded me the extra charge then shoves the recipe in the bag and starts with the next customer. Doesnt tell me shes done or if she fixed the problem I had to ask her if she was done.
Immediately as I walked through the doors, I was helped by an employee name Zuri. My son sent me into the store for football ball item. Zuri took me straight to what I needed. One item Zuri wasnt sure if they had, so he went and got Joey; who was also extremely helpful, respectful, professional and polite.
Academy is one of the best outdoor sports and indoor exercise places Ive ever been. This store had everything that I was looking for....and a whole lot more that I cant buy right now haha.if you need anything from garage gym to shooting to fishing, this store has it.
I’ve shopped here for several years now and I’ve always noticed that it’s usually pretty trashy, specifically in the shoes department. Today was my first really bad experience though, my daughter went to sit down to try on some shoes and someone at put a “security tack” point up on the bench. Luckily my husband noticed it before she sat on it. I asked to speak with the manager and his excuse was “we’ve been really busy today and this is a security tack so someone must have stolen so shoes.” So they not only not clean but they also lack security apparently. I’ll take my business to the Kennesaw Academy for now on.
We went to another Academy but they were out of the size of cleat we needed. I called other stores to find the size we needed. After multiple hold cycles at other academy locations, I was connected to Kai in the Hiram location. She took personal interest in our search. She followed through the process, even though she was unable to get anyone working in footwear to respond. She located the size and held them until we got there. She is the right person to be working customer service.
Well some of the employees are horrible, but on the other hand some are wonderful. Good clearance, horrible at displays . On more than one occasion theyve had the wrong shoe displayed on sale. And they dont care nor do they see what the big deal is. And Im talking about management!
I was there almost an hour and not one person offered to help me. However, I saw quite a few employees playing around. There were some good bargains, but none in my size. I like that they carry a few of the upper end brands, like Keen, Merrell, Hi-Tec, and Columbia, although a very pitiful selection of each. I will drive to Kennesaw next time and go to Dicks or Rei. At least you get good service for those prices and they are usually well stocked.
Horrible!!!! Went to the store in December to purchase a firearm knew what firearm I wanted filled out all the paperwork then submitted it to the gun counter and I was told I was delayed for some reason probably because I choose not to have a Carry card in Georgia but that is my choice and my right. And according to my 2nd amendment I have the right to bear arms so I choose not to give the government more of my money. For a card I dont mind the wait I am no felon or criminal. What I do mind is Academy not following thru with what they say I was told three day wait that I would hear something in 3 days from them If not to call them I did numerous times one time told still delayed. The nested time I called it was a very rude female that answered told me they couldnt tell me anything. I told her this was not the first gun I had ever purchased and that they can is on the computer to look at it she said NO I CANT WHEN WE HEAR BACK FROM THEM WE WILL CALL YOU. Well gave it a few days called back the third time the gentleman said it could take up to 15 days. So as you can read in this review it is January 31 2017 and I have still not heard anything called the store manager 3 times no return call. So I am going to give it one more shot before I call there corporate office about this. I would like someone to contact me. So we can get this resolved maybe or I will spend my money else were like I did when I bought a diffrent firearm before at CABELAS. At least they do what they say they will do. Academy might want to take some lessons.
The store is great but how understaffed is this place??? Ive been here 4 times and EVERY TIME, I wait to check out in a line with like 10 other people. Today I had a return (was just here Wed and waited forever, too) while 20 other people bypassed me because only one person can do a return. It only took someone else to open a register after like 25 people built up in line. Ugh, so annoying. SMH
Terrible service at the gun counter. Waited in line, grabbed a number... And after 20 minutes a second person came to help and started with whoever he pleased. People who had just walked up instead of along who had been there first.... Ridiculous. Guess we arent going back there to look at guns anymore.
After failing to find help my first try, I went to the fishing section for a bit. I came back and there was one employee standing there using a computer(?) or something at the gun counter and no customers. Asked him if I could see a bow and he walked over to the bows and asked these bows?, and then proceeded to tell me he was busy and Id have to wait. Ok? So I couldnt look at the bow while you typed? And you walked over there just to say no? Anyways, me and my wife left. I know its a drop in the bucket, but you missed a $500 sale.
Service in the firearm dept was really slow only one employee behind the counter but I kind of get it since there were only a few people browsing that section but it was around noon on a weekday I would imagine evenings or weekends would be far busier hopefully they have more employees other than that they have a great selection of ammo at pretty reasonable prices
RUDE....RUDE...RUDE...I am 6 months pregnant and as I was walking in the store I ask the gentle at the front door where the restroom was because I really needed to go, he didnt even look at me he just pointed and rudly said in the back corner, then the lady I came across on my way to the back when I ask her if she could point me in the direction of the restroom looked at me and said in the snobbish voice, Im on lunch. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever encountered at an Academy Sports store.
The EMPLOYEES are very polite and helpfu. But as soon as you get a MANGER then your experience will soon turn to crap. Manfers dont know anything about the product in their store. I mean not a damn thing , I get that you have employees to help the store. But does academy do slave labor?? Was on the bike asile when looking at tires saw a young man struggling with a bike putting it on the top shelf by himself on a ladder. Very very dangerous I didnt wanna ask him while he was up there so I saw apparently a manger ( Jalanda ) so I asked for help. No eye contact to me whats so ever an said drew when you get done with bike help this lady with her question ) an kept walking. Now this young man was polite and had a really good understanding on my question and tried his best to his knowledge. My experience with the store overall was CRAP because of the so called manger.
The guy behind the counter kind of just ignored us until he was through with showing another employee how to do something. It took some minutes. When you are a customer, minutes, count. All he had to do was acknowledge us, say something to the effect of Hello, I will be right with you, Good evening, I will be with you in just a moment, something.

2022-06-06So I will say that my experience here was very mediocre. I ordered a bike and the tire was a little flat when I received it so I added some air to it and the front tire popped. I called the store to see if I could bring the tire in and exchange it with the same tire (I did ask this) they said I could. So I took the tire to the store and instead of giving me a replacement tire that matches my bike they gave me a generic tire and tube. While I do appreciate the effort, on a brand new bike I wouldnt want to have mismatched tires so I proceeded to call again and I was informed that I could just exchange the bike. The person I spoke with said that bikes would be built over the weekend and that once this bike was assembled they would hold it for me so that I could come back and exchange it. So I waited until that Monday called up there to see about the bike and they said that they couldnt find any of those bikes even though the system showed they had some in stock. So I decided to go ahead and take my bike back to get a refund then I proceeded to order the bike again. After ordering, I received a notification about a day later that the bike was ready for pickup I did not go the same day I waited 2 days and sent my husband to get the bike only to find out it was not assembled yet even though they notified me that it was ready for pickup 2 days prior. I called about the incident and I was informed that they would contact me once the bike was built so I could go in and pick It up however no one contacted me. So the next day I called again to confirm that the bike was fully assembled before making another trip I was able to confirm it and my husband was able to pick it up. So overall I did get the issue resolved however the way it was handled to me was very poor. I do appreciate the efforts of all those involved but I feel it should have gone much smoother.

2021-07-24I went to Academy Sports. I bought a tactical back pack. A great place to shop for a lot of different merchandise. As always customer service was excellent and helpful. The merchandising neat and organized. They will match pricing and the prices are reasonable. The location is is visible from the road. Easy to access.

2022-05-26Love this place. They are extremely helpful and friendly people. Especially Michael Cox in the gun department. I wish I could remember all the names but had several things going on today with picking up on line orders and really wanting other things too. Thank you for the people who helped me today in the front by the online pick up area, managers being apologetic for handling multiple issues and service by the cashier and others for remembering and going through the hassle of getting my first responder discount thank you all so much! I will most definitely see you again soon. Clean place and pleasant workers.

2022-06-11Came to this location yesterday with my boyfriend to look at guns so that I could hopefully purchase one since I already had an idea of the one I wanted. There were 3 associates behind the counter. I will say they were assisting other customers but we were never greeted or acknowledged by any of them while we waited to be assisted. We looked at the display of guns for about 15 mins and we finally decided to leave to go to another store. Even the manager came back there and never acknowledged us or any of the other customers. There seemed to be some tension between the Manager and employees and even while leaving there was a issue with a cashier and and another employee it seemed. Customer service definitely needs to be improved here.

2021-05-10I had rode all around paulding county GA looking for some traditional army camo pants to match a new cap I bought in colorado. I assumed a sport store would definitely have camo. While they had some hunting camo (with outdoor leaf latterns) there was no army green camo so I would eventually leave dissapointed. But not before I thoroughly enjoyed walking around and browsing because they had EVERYTHING ELSE. I mean I almost bout a basketball.goal for no reason. 2022-06-16Says Mens football cleats are in stock online with several options to buy in store. Drive there 30 mins away and there’s literally 2 options all very small sizes. A clerk said they wouldn’t get more until the season start. I guess they think people only play when the NFL is playing….

2022-06-10Only complaint I have is that they don’t have enough employees working the registers, 9/10 times I shop here the line is backed up and your standing in the clothing section with 1 register open! Atleast have a self check out area!
