I truly enjoyed both my time and meal here. The crab legs were some of the best Ive had in a while, most places over cook them. They did forget the blue cheese and tomato wedge on the steakhouse salad but not a huge deal. The steak on the salad was slightly over cooked but very well seasoned. Every time I turned around they were replacing my frosted mug with a new one to keep my beer cold. Theres both smoking and non smoking dining rooms. They employ a good friendly staff that was quick to acknowledge us. I will definitely be returning often!
They have the best raw Oysters in town! All the food is good and fresh here. Ive never had a bad experience. My only complaint would be the space. Not a whole lot of sitting room. They have a smoking and a non smoking section. Non-smoking has like 5-6 tables. Other than that. I give this place a 10!
Saturday night was my first time eating here. Everyone greeted you when you come in. Their seafood was the best. The raw oysters were fresh. The fried oysters were fried just right on the Captains platter. And the waitress made me feel like I was one of her closest friends. The price was sooo worth it. I promise to go back again.
It was delicious!!! We had 2 dozen raw oysters for $12.99 per dozen and my and I shared the special of 25 shrimp fried for $12.99 also. Our bill was $41 and some cents that was with two waters. Very reasonable prices even on the regular plates considering the other places around town is almost $30 a plate so I give this place five stars and I would return if I lived in this area. If you have not eaten here you must try it the shrimp is lightly breaded so that youre not eating nothing but breading you actually are able to taste the shrimp. Very yummy!!! Service was five stars also. She was not fake very down-to-earth and was not the type that bugs you but did her job to perfection. The atmosphere felt bar like but was quiet all in the same sense. All in all I love the place! My type of place to eat.
Went here last night for the first time!! Loved it, had 24 raw oysters. Delicious! Redneck platter also wonderful. Gator bites where so tender and the quail was killer. My fiancee had the stuffed flounder and she loved it. I had a bite, seriously some of the best Ive ever tried!! This is a nice small local place. Has a smoking and non sections. Are waitress was incredible had the dinning room running like a well oil machine. Great place for small groups, wouldnt go if there was more then maybe 4-6 in your party. Enjoy!!
I had the pleasure of having dinner here last night with 7 friends and everything was awesome from the service to the food. The shrimp was great both fried and boiled. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. The prices were good also, I will be eating here again.
I can’t say enough good things about my sole experience here. The steak and shrimp were both cooked and seasoned perfectly. The staff was fast and friendly. Overall the value is exceptional given the price versus the quality and quantity. Well deserved 5 stars, I’d give more if I could.
I gave it three stars because my partner really liked it here and the good service. He enjoyed his food and plans to return or frequent the place because of its ambience. This is a very lively and appropriately loud restaurant. Fast paced, good vibes, good customer service. they are very popular with the oyster dish. I did not like it as much, my food was okay. I will not recommend the oyster cream soup? (Can’t recall the actual name) it was horrible. Very watery no taste no flavor. I think they just put the oyster and a tbsp of heavy cream add onion and water, warm it for 5-10 minutes and voila! No disgusting. It’s not edible and I don’t mean to exaggerate but that was a waste.
Last night when I went was the first time we went that I was disappointed. We went an hour before closing and just felt really rushed. It was not the best! The girl even told my fiance she had already poured out the unsweet tea already. I probably wont make the hour drive there again. The Grille in Headland is just as far and just as good!
Excellence! Excellent service! Food was amazing! Everything was good even the hush puppies and coleslaw! I was disappointed they were out of the crab claws but now I have a good reason for a return visit! Must try those babies fried! Excellent dining experience! A new favorite spot!
We went here over Blackbeards because they closed an hour later, but it was a mistake. The service was great, but the food was a little below par. Not terrible, just not good. The fried shrimp had no flavor. The cocktail sauce was so watery that it was difficult to use it as a dipping sauce. The ranch and tarter sauce was ok and thank goodness because it was the only way to give flavor to the bland shrimp. I am giving them 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 because the service was excellent and the food came out quick, but I would not eat here again. It is probably a good place if you just want to drink beer and smoke cigarettes. The other food may be good and we just picked the wrong item, but a place that labels themselves a seafood restaurant should have flavorful shrimp.
Wow! This place has really gone down in quality of food and atmosphere. Only reason Im giving them 2 stars is because the waitress was very good. The food all tasted like frozen seafood dropped in a fryer. Broiled crab claws were flavorless. This place looks and smell like it did 10 years ago when I use to live in Albany. This isnt a good thing, they should invest in some decor upgrades and a better ventilation system, unless you like smelling cigarette smoke as soon as you enter the door. This is more of a dive bar now. If you want good seafood.... Go to Blackbeard, right across the street.
Food was horrible, we visited this establishment Saturday 10/5. The salad consisted of lettuce shredded cheese and one tomato wedge. The stuffed flounder I ordered had no taste to it....it was supposed to have been stuffed with crab shrimp and parmesan cheese it was like mush, my other guests said the steaks they ordered was tasteless and rubbery. Maybe it was another cook there on this day or we just ordered the wrong things on the menu. The womens bathroom is too small, definitely wont be going back.
Safe bet to get a good meal. The menu is typical for a small seafood restaurant with a couple nice additions such as frog legs and gator tail. The oysters have been really good my three visits as well as the shrimp. The two dining options (smoking and non-smoking) are great and surprisingly very rarely will you get a smoke smell in the non-smoking side. It is a little on the small side and can lead to a wait at their busier times. But overall a great choice to grab some grub in Albany.
Great seafood, mostly fried and no frills. Smoking and non smoking areas available. Cheap drinks, great place to meet up with friends and hang out chatting all night. I love this bar, it’s probably my favorite of the few bar options available in Albany. Ask for Nicole! She’s a sweetheart and a great server!
Not great. Initial hopes of getting oysters were dashed with astronomical price hike. Crab stuffed jalapeño poppers were adequate. Fried pickles were decent. Best part of the meal was the sweet tea. My guests ordered (respectively) Grilled Mahi Mahi (x2), Blackened Grouper, and I orded the combination of Fried Blue Crab Claws and Gator Tail. The same batter on my onion ring was used on the crab claws, overpowering the taste until it was just breading with crab texture inside. Gator tail, even being battered identically to onion rings and crab, was just right. Both people said their Mahi was way to overcooked, and the 3rd said his grouper was the worst he ever had. Hush puppies were fried corn meal, no seasoning at all. Waitress was very nice, very consistent with refills, even when it started getting busy. Guests said the Key Lime pie (cheesecake?) was good. All in total, after generous tip, the $160 bill was definitely NOT worth it. Would recommend eating at any other seafood restaurant in Albany, if not for price, but for quality of food. Havent been to AJS in 6 years, will probably be 10+ before I go back.
This was my very first time there. I loved the food, the energy, the attitudes of everyone in there. They have a lot of usuals but they treated everyone the same. I love spending my money in places like this. I see why they have usuals. LOVED IT!! The atmosphere makes the food taste even better. LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE!!
One of my favorite Seafood Restaurants in Albany. I love the oysters baked on the half shell and served with delectable cheeses and something else I cant think of right now! I know its delicious, its fresh and you will not be disappointed. Its always full but I squeeze it!!!
My boyfriend and I came from Atlanta to visit the warm springs. It was super hard to find a restaurant that was open past 7 with decent reviews. This place was awesome! Great service and good food (very southern which I love; everything fried is great) I definitely recommend a visit here if you are in Albany
Nice to see a varity of seafood located in a secluded part of the world. Have to be honest here though, dont care how good something is cook or how broad the selection is, I am not a fan of eating at a bar. The non smoking section smells like cigars and is about the size of a small bathroom. The average age of customer seems like 19 but everyone is drinking. Not a place to take mother too ya know: mostly cause you can see the thongs of the servers when they come and take your order. I guess my morality kinda killed any enjoyment I could have got from the place. Too smokey, too loud, OVERPRICED for the quality. If they would clean up their act it would be an amazing establishment to eat; but much work is needed. Stay clear unless you are just a drinker who cant really taste your food anyway.
I have nothing but great memories when it comes to A.J.’s. I’ve been patronizing A.J.’s since I was in high school at Albany High! Not going to tell a specific year, but more than 10 years! The atmosphere is always warm, welcoming and relaxing. The jukebox is off the chain and I love music! What would a bar be without an off the chain jukebox?! The waitresses are so nice and very customer oriented. My mom is 81, lives with my husband and I, has Alzheimer’s and loves A.J.’s! And they love her! The staff always greets us with a smile and hug. She looks forward to our next visit. The food is great and the menu has a little bit of everything. My fav is the hamburger with french fries. Very big and tastes great! I love everything about A.J.’s. It’s low key, no frills and accepting of everyone. Just the way it should be. I’ll let you all go or I’ll type forever. Check A.J.’s out yourself.
This was my 2nd visit and the food was awesome both times. I will be eating there again. My wife really enjoyed her steak dinner. My two year old granddaughter ate all her fish dinner and I didnt leave anything but the utensils and the bones from my froglegs and gator bites
This place was hyped to us by friends. What we found was a bifurcated establishment, one side for smokers (the larger side) and one for nonsmokers (a few tables). I have never understood the logic of places like this - the smoke gets into the nonsmoking side! There is a very paltry selection and what we ordered had us wishing we had decided to wait at the other fish restaurant down the street.Nothing about this place inspires me to go back.
WAY OVERPRICED and over breaded! Better off going to Red Lobster or Captain D’s. Ordered the seafood platter and a side of fried oysters with tea..$38.50. The portions were very small and it was mostly crumbs....the side of fried oysters was $13.99 and it was 6 very small and breaded pieces that I couldn’t taste the oysters....we were new to the area so we tried this place and needless to say we won’t be back.
Dark ! Ordered my usual dish. Flounder! It was coated so heavy with batter that you could see or bearly taste the fish! Slaw was drowning in mayo. The waitress was loud rude and dressed in holey Jean shorts--. Not very professional looking or acting. I asked for Bill and she continued to bus tables and take orders from other. I was sorely disappointed! Pretty sure I wont be back.

2022-06-13Definitely a no frills joint. In fact the place hasnt changed in 30 years. I was in town a few weeks ago to visit family for a couple of days and took my mom, aunt and niece for lunch. As usual, we were enjoying each others company so much that once the meal arrived, I forgot to take photos! For starters we had the calamari and oysters Rockefeller. The calamari was well cooked and with a nicely seasoned batter. The oysters Rockefeller - so so - I only say this because the menu says topped with parmesan and American Swiss.American Swiss translates to processed white cheese product that may or may not taste like Swiss, but definitely has the texture of microwaved generic pasturized, processed, cheese products (singles). The red snapper was phenomenal! My niece loved the stuffed flounder.OHH and I would be remiss if I did not mention the baked potatoes. I know, NO one ever reviews the baked potatoes! These however, deserve a mention - These were large, fluffy, perfectly baked potatoes. The best part about the whole meal - the service! The two ladies working that Saturday were swamped, but handled the whole restaurant with grace, patience, and smiles and never a cross word.

2022-03-13Stopped by on the way through town. Its been nearly a decade since Ive been here. Exactly the same as I remember with fantastic grilled oysters and fish. Im a fan of boiled and grilled, so must make sure to ask if the entree is fried, as the Southerners love their seafood fried.

2022-05-15My wife and I ate dinner there for her birthday. The crab legs were good as usual. The dozen oysters were the smallest Ive ever seen especially for the price but I spent 120 bucks on our meal no alcoholic beverages and we both left there hungry and this should not happen

2019-09-11My favorite spot to get seafood in the 229 area. Theyre reasonable, good and they have great customer service. Their cheese grits are made with A Grandmothers Love 😂😂😂!!! Their homemade tartar sauce is everything. The hushpuppies are good too!!! I go home every weekend and eat here. You dont need the butter with the crab legs, because they are seasoned to perfection. The only problem that you might have is that its a small restaurant.

2022-05-23Friendly staff, but oysters were tiny and smothered in cheese. Oysters served on dinner plate.
