Autrey Mill is a historic grist (maize grinding) mill that sat on a dammed stretch of water known as Sal’s Creek. This was used to turn the heavy grinding stones.Situated in several hectares of attractive woodland and wetlands, visitors are able to join a three-kilometre boardwalk which cuts through these idyllic landscapes.Along the way, you should look out for the 100 species of animal that have previously been recorded here. You can also try and identify the 30 types of native tree that form a welcome shade from the sun, and watch for orchids including one known as Pink Lady’s Slipper.Other buildings on the site include a farm museum. Autrey Mill is roughly ten kilometres west of Duluth, in Johns Creek.
Very nice park. I love the old cabin with the piano in the front. The trails are easy and beautiful nature. The bathrooms were extremely Clean. They had goats and ducks. The park also was very Safe. There was a police officer watching the park which made me feel safe. The clientele at the park were very nice. I really enjoyed this park. I give this park a 100%.
Just a lovely lovely place. Took the wife and 2 kids there (14 and 10 years old) and spent about 2.5 hours. Very nice walk/hiking trails along side and over a pretty creek. There are bridges and long boardwalks and an audio tour that u can dial up on your phone. They have older historic houses, a visitors center and some animals (snakes, fish, chickens, ducks, goats, bunnies and a VERY cool tortoise!) (There are quarter machines for feed for the animals). The whole place is very low key and very well kept. Even the animal pens were clean and stink-free!
Love this place!!Every time we come by is an adventure. My girls love feeding the animals (goats, bunnies, turtle, chickens...).The volunteers at the visitors center are extremely nice and welcoming, and you can find lots of snakes and reptiles inside.Outside there are many different corners with things to do. There a pretend play Indian village, walking trails, family swing, butterfly garden and more...
Such a beautiful place! I went on a day they were closed but I was still able to walk around and see the chickens and goats. We were also able to sit in the gazebo which is in the butterfly garden. It was a beautiful day and it wasnt crowded, which created a calm, peaceful vibe. I was able to nurse my baby privately while enjoying the beauty around me 😊
From watching the little critters to hiking the trails this Park has it all. Trails are very well maintained, and a moderately challenging hike (a few sections have good elevation changes, and some sections are very root bound). We saw a wedding too (socially distanced of course)!
Great place to go and see animals native to Georgia! I have volunteered over 125 hours over the past 3 years. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There are lots of different trails to walk and there are several pavilions that you dont need to rent unless you are doing events. The preserve is also a historic site because of the Summerour house and Farm Museum.Would highly recommend visiting and volunteering here!
This place. Is wonderful. Its so pretty and well cared for, and the lady who curates it is so friendly and kind, I was actually impressed by it.The grounds themselves feel large, but are easy to traverse, and theres a lot to do and see in such a small space.A lot of different organizations contributed many things to the site, and you can feel it.This is a true community preserve.
Autrey Mill is a gorgeous, quiet place to hike. I took my infant son. I didnt realize it wasnt stroller friendly but his stroller is pretty rugged and it made it pretty far down the trail before we had to turn around. It had amazing views and theres even a place where they have rabbits and roosters and ducks near the visitors center to look at.
I wish we would have find this place sooner! My boys (4&6) loved it! If you go when the visitors center is open, there are aquariums inside with various reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids! You may even be able to pet Pebbles, the 15yr old tortoise! Outside there are sucks, bunnies, and chickens. They have a butterfly garden and great hiking trails for little ones. They offer many programs that we are just learning about. We will be back!
Beautiful, healthy southern woods with minimal invasive plant invasion. Wetlands, Sals Creek, many ephemeral streams and foot bridges, some very large loblolly pines and tulip trees, historic buildings, a gold mine(!), visitor center, restrooms, friendly staff and volunteers, trails, and cell phone tour. Bring your kids, excellent place for them to play, explore and discover nature. Many of the trails are on moderate to steep terrain with exposed tree roots so wear comfortable trail footwear and watch your step. Dog-friendly but must be leashed at all times. Mosquitoes can get pretty bad in the morning and evening so bug repellent is recommended.
Love, love, love this place. You can completely disappear into nature right in the middle of the suburbs. While youre walking through here, youll hear nothing but little critters scampering around and leaves blowing against the trees. But bring bug spray in the summer!
Lauren at the Center is so helpful, informative, and very friendly! Since we happened to be by at feeding time, we got to feed some of the turtles and even held one! The trails are nice and well-maintained, the lookout we went to is lovely and secluded. Such a treasure. We look forward to returning!
A relatively short drive from downtown Atlanta, Autrey Mill is a blend of history and nature. We stopped by the visitor center - Judy was a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area and the wildlife. The trails are well marked in the woods. We will definitely visit again!
Autrey Mill is a great family oriented place to explore Georgia nature! Fun activities, knowledgeable volunteers and employees and wonderful facilities. Boy Scouts do a lot of work at Autrey Mills to build and add to the value of the preserve and in return earn their Eagle Scout Award. The reason for only four star review is that multiple families have had terrible experiences with the employee at Autrey Mill who is charge of coordinating the Eagle Scout Projects. She is rude, demeaning, unorganized and personally attacks the young Scouts who are only there to serve. Not good community relations.

2022-05-29It is a beautiful area. Seems pretty well maintained. Only downfall in my opinion are all the tree roots coming up in the way of the paths. Makes it difficult to see the beauty of the area and pay attention to every step in most areas on the trails.

2021-11-28The goats and walking trails are lovely. The pollinator garden is a great idea, but can’t quite be considered a garden yet. I’m not sure why they stopped taking care of the kids play area, but I suspect it’s COVID related. It was wonderful 1-2 years ago, however most, if not all, of the play elements are broken and quite frankly, dangerous.

2022-06-25Great place for a day hike in the hot summer. Longest trail is about 1.5 miles. Terrain is mostly level and the the best aspect is its 99% shaded. When its summer time HOT, this is nice. Theres more trails that cris-cross the main trail. Also has a visitor center, rest rooms and a few historic buildings to check out.

2022-01-13We love this beautiful place for the nature and history. Its a great walk, easy for families. We were lucky to get a tour of some of the buildings like the Green store. It was amazing to see so many items from the past, some of the brands still exist today. Liza was fabulous, so friendly and knowledgeable. We were able to ask questions that she was happy to answer. Our family learned so much with this visit. I would definitely recommend walking this trail and getting the tour. If youre lucky you might get Liza.

2021-10-23Nice historic cottages and nature. Small collection of farm animals. Butterfly garden and vegetable garden could use a little more attention.

2021-03-07We visited this place during our visit to Norcross. Beautiful location with nice nature trails to explore the flora and fauna. Kids will enjoy the live wildlife exhibits inside the visitor center and other animal exhibits outside. Also, learn about heritage and history by visiting the various buildings and farm museum on site which has been maintained very well.
