Avis Car Rental in other cities:
Looks like I have the same complaint. Hours in line waiting Good thing I’m in good company with the other dozens of people waiting. Avis - I think we are done here. Gotta say though, after being given a car that had electrical issues, the staff outsidewere amazing. I wish I had their names. They deserve a raise for sure. They were really hustling and helpful. So 5 stars for them
With all the stories of rental car nightmares I wanted to relate a great experience. After a ten hour delay for our home-going flight our flight was finally cancelled at midnight. No available flights the next day but Avis had a great new car available at 7am so we drove the twelve hours to the airport we were supposed to fly into 30 hours earlier. Thanks to the counter professionals and the folks behind the scenes. The “God bless” I got as a good bye from the counter clerk in Savannah says it all. Avis was truly a blessing.
This was a TERRIBLE experience. I waited 2 hours for a car, to only get my reservation canceled. They didn’t have any compact cars, even though I had reserved a car through Priceline days before I arrived. The workers at the desk could not help us at all and could not communicate with the people in the garage. When we went people in the garage were sitting around on their phones while the front desk was frantically trying to help the customers in line. My reservation was cancelled after the 2 hour mark and we had to make another reservation. Because of that, my party was charged extra and not compensated for the time wasted sitting at the desk and in line. They then charged the card $200 more than they should have, making the total payment $1400 when it was originally should have been around $700. Use any other counter other than Avis or Budget. You will get in and out of there 10x faster with a car that is taken care of and is cleaned. Additionally, customer service CONTINUALLY hung up on us when we were trying to make complaints. They would not provide us with information to talk to someone who could actually make a difference in the situation. When we got into the car, the seats and steering wheel were wet because the windows were rolled down and it was raining. Please go anywhere else. The staff was not trained correctly and I didn’t see a manager for the 2 hours I was there, so I was unable to make a complaint. Many other customers were highly upset and even canceled their reservation and went else where.
By far the worst experience Ive ever had renting a car. I arrived almost an hour before pickup time and i still had to sit in line for 2 hours. Then I had to wait 45 minutes for someone to bring the car to me at the front. I am an adult and can walk to my car wherever it is rather than wait 3 hours to get a car I had already reserved and paid for. I definitely wont ever get another car from Avis. Every other rental agency in the desks around me had 0 line and no wait...
One star only because there is no zero option. I used the on-line check-in before I departed home. When I arrived at the Savannah Airport Avis counter I was told that they dont honor this feature. The agent then took all of my information. I asked him if the advance check-in didnt eliminate the need for this and he told me whether you have a reservation or not we must ask all of the same questions. My reservation was for a 4:00pm pick-up. I was told to wait a ridiculously long time. I was finally given my car at 8:42pm. I asked to speak to a manager and was told I could not. I asked for the agents name and he said, you dont need that and walked away. Someone else finished helping me.Below is a photo of the agent who treated me so rudely.
2+ hour wait to receive a car. They seem to have a major staffing issue. Nobody could give you an ETA and could only say that they only have one person getting cars washed, inspected and ready (while 4 people were at the check in desk). Perhaps cross training staff to be able to help with getting cars ready would help reduce the wait time.
This was the worst car rental experience ever. I booked a vehicle days in advance. The morning of the rental Avis sent a text or email inviting me to fill in my license number etc. After at least 2 hours of waiting I arrived at the desk and the clerk claimed I had just made the reservation that morning, indicating a sign which said “no same day reservations.” I explained and got past that hurdle. Next the car I had reserved was not available, only a more expensive one. Rather than being given a free upgrade as most agencies do, she gave me the choice of paying the higher price or being set aside to wait even longer for my reserved car to become available. There are other serious problems with this location. Budget and Avis share the same two overworked clerks, making the wait twice as long. Finally, there is an infuriating Premiere rental line where premier customers can just walk up and bypass the countless other customers waiting in line for hours. Never again.
I’ve rented rental cars often and I’ve never had such a negative experience. We arrived at the counter and there was an insanely long line. In the end we waited approximately 2 hours to get to the counter. Then, we had to wait another 40 to get the keys as the car was still being delivered. There was not enough agents behind the counter to help assist and supposedly the Avis helper had left early hours ago. This is unacceptable and was the worst Avis rental experience I’ve had. Usually it takes me about 15 minutes to get my rental car.
Most horrible experience in the history of our travels. There were close to 80 people with family members waiting to rent cars. There were only 2 people working and the line was only getting longer. There was no attempt from Avis/Budget to bring in more help or communicate what the situation was. You could clearly see small children and older folks were getting tired and irritated. There was no communication from Avis/Budget to explain the 2 hour wait time while we were patiently waiting in line. There was no other option as all the other rental companies had no cars available.
I was in line for over an hour and 45 minutes after getting my baggage to claim my reserved car. Apparently, someone didnt show for work that was supposed to be helping to wash the cars. I was exhausted after a day of travel, alone so had no one to relieve me from the line, and uncomfortable on my feet in line for that long. After about the 1 hour 30 min mark, they stopped servicing us to wait for the keys to the cars for people that had already been serviced. To make us feel better, we were offered mint candies they kept up at the desk. I was so frustrated at the situation and how they were handling it. Once I finally got it, the car was fine, no navigation though so my phone had to do it, which was fine. That experience was just so exhaustingly frustrating as I missed two of the scheduled events I had planned at Hilton Head.Maybe next time offer out line numbers so we can go sit down if you stop serving us. And have one of your employees at the desk go help wash cars if its going to put you behind that badly. Terrible experience.
I am a frequent patron of this Avis location. The people have been courteous and awesome in over 10 years of service. There are enough complaints about wait times. So, my remarks will be different. This location has always been behind in having a convenient and quick process for picking up cars. No matter what more efficient system is implemented elsewhere in the United States, it never seems to make it here. Now, in my opinion, with the hiring and logistics issues of the time, this lack of movement is showing in the worse sort of way. Digital check-in is available at avis.com but it seems to mean nothing here.To the employees I have grown to know and appreciate, thanks. Hopefully, I can still come by and say hello. In my opinion, this is about the total neglect of years by Avis/Budget at an airport thats steadily growing and probably about to have an even a greater growth rate of traffic. That neglect has overtaken this location in a way thats practically impossible for employees to manage and that has caused and is causing frustration and loss of valuable time to its customers and employees. That being said, avoid this location if you can, personal and business. It takes away too much time from clients or a beer on the beach.
One star because I cant give zero. Avis is bad in the best of times with their 30 year old technology at the counter. Put a few people in line and it grinds to a halt. Before I tapped out and cancelled my reservation, I timed three people, two preferred and one regular. Pretty much seemed like five minutes per customer average. I counted noses in front of me, decided >1 hour of waiting and bailed. I will tell my corporate travel people to drop Avis as a preferred supplier. BTW, I had the same experience in December, I guess in over 4 months they cant fix their short staff problem. Funny thing, Hertz had a sign no cars but still had three people behind the counter.
We rented a car for pickup at the SAV airport on 03/21/2022. Our reservation number was 26033715US1.We waited in line for 2.5 hours with a hungry and tired toddler to receive our car which was booked in advance. There were 3 employees working with seemingly little to no motivation to move the quickly. Due to our airline losing our luggage we added a car seat to our rental which was just thrown into the car in the dark parking garage. We had a hard time finding our rental and getting a hold of the agent in the garage as she was loudly talking on a personal call. We finally got a hold of her and she said she had no idea how to install the car seat. The car seat cost was nearly $70 for five days and we were told it would be installed. Furthermore the cost of the car seat is less then $70 new which is disappointing Avis is taking such advantage of parents and their desire to keep their children safe. Our entire experience with Avis was very disappointing.
First and only time renting with Avis. Rented back in May and only went about 40 miles before car had flat. When tire was changed, was clear that tire was in poor condition to begin with and should have never left the lot. Glad I was not injured. Spent many hours on phone working to get a financial hold on my card removed days after I returned the car (via a tow which they arranged). And still no calls back on my original request to get a refund for the damaged and dangerous car. And now will have to spend more time with them to figure out why I now have another charge on my card, months after and with no explanation. Incredibly frustrating…pick any other company or get a ride share. Not worth the frustration and lack of communication from their corporate office.
Zero stars for the Avis Rental at Savannah Airport. I reserved a car on my way to the airport and was able to book with a prepayment option. When I arrived, I was told that since I booked same day that they would not honor my reservation. I was told I could get an Uber. When they found out I was a Preferred member they gave me a dirty car. Overall terrible experience, which is pretty consistent for all car rentals at the Savannah airport.
I had a confirmed reservation which was made online the day before my trip. When I arrived in Savannah the next morning this Avis/Budget agent (pictured) was extremely rude and unprofessional. I was told that they were out of economy cars and I had to purchase a minivan because thats all that they had in their fleet despite having our confirm reservation for an economy car. The agent would not place me in another vehicle and honor the rate that I was given. When I asked for her name and manager s contact information she questioned why then tried to tell me that they didnt have one or a direct phone number. She eventually wrote a name and an 800 number on a post-it note. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH AVIS/BUDGET AGAIN!! BEWARE AND CONSIDER OTHER OPTIONS IN THE SAVANNAH AREA.
I arrived at Savannah airport over July 4th weekend having booked with Hertz. Arriving at the Hertz counter I found that Hertz was oversold and understaffed. They put me on a waiting list that had 40 names ahead of me. I went next door to Avis and Julie was so helpful and enthusiastic. She got us on the road quickly and didn’t overcharge us taking advantage of the last minute reservation. I promised her that Avis would now be my # 1 choice.
Simply awful experience. Paid more to go right to lot and pick the rental I wanted. Got there and had to wait in long line. No cars. No choice. Dirty car finally offered. No discount. Customer service contacted who said theyd make it up to us - nothing done. Bait and switch.
2 hours waiting in line AFTER the plane landed at 12:30 am. Just the experience you want after a flight.Heres the thing AVIS - These are RESERVED vehicles. You KNOW the volume. You can plan, prepare, dare I say MANAGE the logistics. The poor guy at the desk is NOT the problem. Its your management.
Waited in line almost 4 hours only for them to give my car to someone else and leave me with a lower level than I paid for. Now someone else has my contract with my information on it and they simply “cancelled the contract” as if that would remedy the situation. I spent half of my day waiting for the wrong car, had my personal information given out to someone else and received no remorse or assistance from the company.
We reserved our rental car and paid in advance online. When we arrived at the rental car area, there was a LONG line. We had to wait over 3 hours in line to pick our rental car that was already paid for days in advance. Then, when we finally arrive at the counter, we are told that the car we paid for in advance is not ready and we could either pay more money for a different car or continue to wait. We had our 1 year old daugher with us who was screaming at this point not leaving us many options. We were told that they were short staffed. We reserved and paid for a car IN ADVANCE.... they knew when our flight arrived as well as everyone else in line. Dont rent cars if you cant accommodate. Absolutely terrible experience.
Im still waiting to get my car. The guy behind the counter says they dont have enough employees. Dont rent from Budget or Avis in Savannah. Thrifty and Dollar dont have any waitThank you Susan for the reply. I hope you are addressing the problem. No one ever plans to stand in line without the ability to sit or rest for 3.5 hours. An older diabetic man may collapse and need emergency services which is what happened the next day in your line. Our medic was there and responded.
We will continue to use Avis for our car rentals. Their online booking and payment process is very easy - we got the vehicle we wanted and it was very clean. Drop off could not be easier. I have heard of horror stories from family and friends from their rental experience with other car rentals - we are sticking with Avis!
We had a dreadful experience renting a car at the Savannah airport for a weekend wedding. We reserved and pre-paid (over $900 for 4 days) for a mini-van - we were traveling with our son, daughter in law and 2 grandchildren requiring child seats (2 years old and 4 months old). We researched several car rental companies and chose Avis, despite the price, because they were the only one with a mini-van available. When we arrived in Savannah, we had to wait on line for over an hour to check-in, despite the fact that we had pre-paid. Avis had our money for over a month. When we arrived at the agents station, he told us that they didnt have a mini-van. He offered a Highlander. This was a disaster for my family - the Highlander does not fit 4 adults and 2 child car seats. The front and middle seats are bucket seats and the third seat is unusually small with no legroom if you need the rear space for luggage. Our son (64 tall) was squeezed into the rear seat with is wife on his lap - ridiculously uncomfortable and unsafe. When I complained to the agent, he said its too bad because I cant even get a car from any other company. I guess customer service does not exist anymore. To add insult to injury, we had to wait another hour for the vehicle to arrive from an off site location. Two hours waiting for the car in the airport with a 2 year old and 4 month old was torture, longer than the flight form Philadelphia. We believe that Avis runs a bait and switch fraud scheme - we could have reserved a Highlander from another company for less money - we paid the higher price because Avis said they had a mini-van. We are totally disgusted with everything about Avis and will never rent from them again. They have no business being in business.
Im a preferred customer and have picked up cars from Savannah Airport several times. However, every time Ive picked up a car here, theres an issue. This is the only location I have problems with my rental.Tonight, I was standing in the line for 90 minutes, and the customer service person announced that they had cars; however, they needed cleaning. One person was cleaning the cars, and they have 10 people with rental contracts waiting for their vehicle to be clean. Im the 6th person on the line. The customer service agent is rude and telling people to cancel their generation.
I got the app to get to take the short cut to the counter in the preferred line. Checked in for car the day before via the app, for a car I had reserved months in advance. My flight out of WI was delayed 1 hr on March 19th due to limited de-icing equipment. Missed connection, had to rebook flight. Got to Avis counter after 2:30 pm for a scheduled 12:30 pm pick up. Got to go in the short line thanks to the app which made those in the zigzag ropes off line furious because they had been in line three hours. After getting to counter my car was not ready, I was told to go wait in waiting area by others. So did you give my car away to an aggressive short tempered angry person since I was late? Or would have I waited extra long had I arrived on time? Maybe good thing I was late to avoid the first two hrs of wait. I only waited slightly over an hour in car waiting area for my name to be called. I was one of the lucky ones. Some had zig zags through roped line for three hours and waited for car after that for over two more. I waited in line 20 min and for car over an hour. Bottom line is that my car was over three hours late and required me to greatly adjust much of my afternoon plans. Why check in early , reserve a time, reserve on advance and provide flight information if not helpful to get me a car on time. In addition to my wait, angry people were not managed well and kept jumping to front of line between every customer to yell more and further slow down everyones experience. They should have been escorted out by security as to stop compounding every one elses wait and negative experience. Some in waiting area said issue was told to them as cars were not able to be cleaned any faster and what was holding everyone up. All other counters were quiet perhaps sold out instead of promising cars they couldnt provide. I wish someone could have been giving us updates or would have triaged our urgency and offered to get us transportation to our lodging if the reason we needed a car that night. I would have gladly been picked up in morning to get my car at a better time if it would have helped the greater good. The counter staff couldnt keep up with the line, let alone work with those of us left wondering about the wait. Angry people only made wait worse. Perhaps it was the chaos of St Patricks day week in Savannah that impacted supply and demand of travelers, cars, and staffing. But it was a disaster that formed my impression of what renting from Avis is like. Missing connection and then lunch already had me disappointed with travel and then to not be handed keys quickly made matters worse. I hope not the same experience at all locations across the country. I am very nervous for my next reservation in June at a different city and considering other options and wondering if I should replan my travel itinerary to start for over three hrs after intended landing or just go with another company to decrease the likelihood of a repeat experience.
Excellent customer service at the SAV airport counter - we were very early (well before the counter opened at 7am), and the agent opened up early to take care of us. She did so in a friendly and professional manner. We appreciated the extra consideration. This is one reason we only rent with Avis.
Way too long of wait time in line. Had 6 people in front of me and it still took 1 hour to get to the counter in the preferred line. Says understaffed, just no smooth process. Still had to wait an additional 1 hour to get the car that was not ready! And the car smelled like smoke, they just left windows down to try to air it out.I have never had this much hassle getting a car. This place needs a big improvement!.
I did a reservation with Avis through Priceline. I have a confirmation at Savanah, Georgia airport. The flight got delayed one hour. I called to confirm the delay. They told me that they have been tracking my reservation and will wait for me. When I arrived to pick up the car, the rental car was closed at 12:15 am. They has a sign saying that they ran out of cars. There are many people in the line were so frustrated as well because they couldn’t get a car. I had to take a Taxi for a long drive which costed me a lot.I advise you not to use Avis or budget rental car as they are irresponsible and don’t respect their costumers. They don’t even deserve the one star.
We swapped a car here due to a transmission problem. The lady leading the vehicle check-in was unfriendly and told us we had to refill the car even though we had elected pre-pay from the original location. The line was insanely long and even the Preferred line took half an hour. The desk agent there was friendly and helpful, however.
I always take rental company reviews with a grain of salt thinking that people have unrealistic expectations or are in bad moods. My experience on 3/3/2022 was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had though. We waited in line for 90 minutes and watched as staff counted through the line and turned away people who had reservations and offered them nothing other than cancelling. If you prepaid, you were given a voucher for $40 (that evening a 20 minute Uber cost $47) and told that the company should hopefully have more cars the next day and they could come back. Thankfully, we did get a car that was clean and I have no complaints about. Yes, we did get it 90 minutes after our scheduled reservation pick up time, but at least we were one of the lucky ones. Turning away 10+ customers during our time in line who had pre-made reservations is something I had never experienced and was terrible customer service in my opinion. If a reservation was made, a car should be available.
We stood in line for 4 hours to get a car, which we reserved ~6 weeks ago, due to “short staffing”. However, based on these reviews, this was not an unusual occurrence. Once we finally got through the line and our reservation was processed, AVIS could not locate the car and we waited an additional 30 minutes. Once we finally got into the car and reached our drop off destination to return it, the business was closed (with incorrect hours listed on the website). Such a waste of time. We will never use AVIS again and will tell anyone who plans to rent a car to use any company except this one.
I had to stand in line for two hours to get a car that I already had a reservation for at Savannah Airport Avis. Although the staff was nice and apologetic, the wait was ridiculous. Usually, I rent with Hertz and my car is waiting for me to jump in and leave, but I went cheap this time and paid the price. On all the poor reviews, I see Avis asking to send an email describing the experience. I’m not sure why since there are remarkably the same…long wait.
This was by far the worst rental experience we have every had, arrived at airport to find a line of over 40 disgruntled customers and ONE very over worked and stressed out employee. The customer in front of us explained that he had been waiting 2 hours with no movement. We can understand lines but why do you take reservations when you are under staffed ? Isnt the point of a reservation to eliminate mass chaos. They then ran out of cars so we had to spend additional costs to uber to our location. Very poorly managed and not one other rental car company in the airport had a line like this one.
I booked a car to be picked up at 12:05am when my flight arrived. On the confirmation from Avis it listed my flight number as well as arrival time. When I went to the counter I was told that my car had been given to someone else and I could check back in the morning. I told him that my final destination was an hour drive so I needed the vehicle at the time agreed upon. He laughed and said that he did the same thing to another guy who had just left the counter. He told me to take an Uber and Avis would reimburse me. No Uber would take me to where I needed to go so I ended up having to get a hotel room. I was traveling for work and needed to be there at 8:00 the next morning. I showed up at Avis the next morning and waited in line for over three hours while they cleaned cars for rental. When I got to the counter I asked how I would go about getting reimbursed like the gentleman told me the night before. She told me that Avis does not reimburse anything like that and he just says that so people will leave him alone. So now I spent $120 for a hotel, 2-$25 cab rides to and from the hotel and missed most of the day of work. I was told that I could try to call customer service but I most likely wouldn’t get ahold of anyone and if I did they wouldn’t care. I will never use Avis again.
I will add my similar story… waited in line for 2.5 hours. At almost the 2 hour mark they announced that there were no cars and that we had to wait for some to be cleaned. “Short staffed.” There were 4 people behind the counter, so you would think some of them would go assist in getting the cars ready, but they just sat there on their phones. Even the staff said this was normal and had been like this for years. Looking at the reviews having similar experiences for many months, clearly the management does not care to fix this major problem.
Rasaunti is a star! Budget/Avis was short staffed and out of cars. My family of five (two kids under 6) and I were traveling with a lot of luggage and arrived delayed in the middle of the night. He made it a point to help us out, even though he already had a long day. Super friendly and highly professional. Found a solution to get us to our place that we were staying at and made sure we got the car we actually needed the next day.If there were 10 stars I’d give them to him!
Worst rental car experience. I waited in line for 2+ hours for my car. I am also a preferred member with a RSVP month in advance. Avis associate kept saying they are behind cleaning the cars. That day it was raining so why would you wash the exterior? Also the interior was dirty.
Waited well over 1 hour in line on a Saturday night. Avis/Budget has 2 people working their counter. What I assume was a manager would occasionally come from the back but never helped with the line. Avis 800 was indifferent to the situation. I chose Avis because this is not standard for them but I will never use them in Savannah again!! This operation makes TSA look like a well-oiled machine! Read the other reviews... and look at the lame generic canned response that Avis gives. Clearly they dont care! Dont reward them with your time or money!!
Vehicle was not available at contracted time. Was charged well over $100 for keeping the car a few minutes past the contracted drop off time even though my rental was not available when I needed it.Update: July 28, 2022Sent an e-mail over a week ago with the requested information and still have not heard anything back. 🤷🏻♂️☹️🤷🏻♂️
We rented a convertible, 4 months in advance, to be used for a wedding, and when we checked in they had no convertibles available. As far as the wait, we are preferred plus, so we were in and out in only a couple minutes. After hours drop off was also a little tricky, until we realized there was a key drop box at the end of the line of parked cars.
Horribly long wait. Never experienced such a terrible process and long waits for a rental car before. I will avoid Budget/Avis from now on. Just terrible. Digital/online check in and having a reservation didnt help at all. Total time to get a car was just shy of 3 hours.
We waited 1.5 hours for a rental car! No one was there to go over the car with us, there were dents and dings and scratches everywhere, stains in the interior. No one was there when we dropped the car off either. The car kept displaying messages that it needed service. This was the WORST rental experience. Absolutely horrible!
I have always used Hertz for the last 30 years. Needed to go from Hilton Head Airport to Leesberg Florida to move a plane. Hertz gave me a rate of $811 for the 5 hour rental with I thought was a typo so I spoke to someone in the Philippines who confirmed I was right so I decided to give Avis a try. At $80 plus fees it was a no brainer. The whole experience was top notch. I am now an Avis Preferred Customer.
2 hours to get a car at Savannah airport. A sign on the counter stated short staffed but if they dont have staff to provide service they shouldnt take reservations. Still waiting for Budget/Avis to make it right. The only negative to an otherwise great experience in Savannah.
The Savannah Avis at the airport is a test of your sanity. Prepare mentally for the most miserable 2-3 hour experience of your life. You will wait an hour to get to the desk. They will then do a bunch of stuff on their computer, print something on an old dot matrix printer (really), and then they sit on hold with some mystery person for while and then after about 15 minutes they say ok youre done. Go stand over there and wait for your name to be called.Thats another 1-2 hour wait. Every 30 minutes or so they call 5 names. You go to the garage and there are aisle after aisle of Avis cars. Why cant they call names faster and give you these cars? I have no idea. Maybe its all part of this sanity test theyve created.I eventually ended up with a small Mitsubishi SUV with 47K miles and a check engine light on. I didnt dare question it because I assume you enter the next level of he!! they have prepared for anyone who dares to ask questions. The real tragedy is for some reason only Avis has cars in Savannah. My coworkers and I have to go there alot and for some reason all the other companies are sold out always. But my advice - if you go to Savannah and the other rental companies dont have cars. Then either Uber or cancel your trip. Its not worth it!
The vehicle was great but actually completing the transaction and receiving the delivery of the vehicle took over an hour. Agents seemed overwhelmed and surprised by people approaching them and expecting a reserved car to be ready for delivery. Why is this such a painful process?
Had a reservation for noon at Savannah Airport and the line was already backed up. I have been waiting for almost three hours now and still have not received my vehicle. I understand being short staffed but this is ridiculous. I am sure I will charged full price for the rental even though I had it less then ond day in toat. totally unacceptable
For prepaid (Gov) rentals, it took us over 2 hours to provess our reservation. The employee was incapable of working his own system (he had to start over 5 times) and we didnt get the cars we asked for. The guy was also rude, unfriendly and definitely incompetent. Never again!
Avis is treating their customers at this location.Without any respect at all for peoples values time and money. My reservation went from 639.00 por week that was already over priced.I try to have the same car for a additional week and the rate went to1,589.00 dollar por week..And there so rude no one can help you with professionalism. They tell my husband move a side, I dont even try my dog that way..I think the government have to regulat the price of this company that, they try to take advantage of the situation.
Waited 2 hours for a car I prepaid for only to find there was no car. Had to take an Uber.Dialed the help line and was told if I wanted to modify my reservation to another Avis location, I would have to pay more because rates went up. How does that make sense? That is why I prepay
Update: I called and they promptly corrected the error and refunded the mischarge. I appreciate that I wasnt given the runaround, etc but it was taken care of right away. Thanks.I filled my gas tank til 100% full just before drop off, then got my receipt by email, and was shocked to see that they charged me for 10 gallons!!! Impossible! And it came to almost $100! Dishonest practice. I will be challenging this!!
If I could rate a 0 I would. DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS LOCATION. We arrived and had a reservation and we waited for several hours because they didn’t have any cars. They overbooked and committed to more than they could offer. The staff was bashing corporate stating they had notified them of the situation. Will never rent from this company again. Waste of time and vacation.
When I say this is one of the worst experiences. Where is the NEGATIVE STARTS BUTTON!?!?! ABSOLUTE WORST! I landed 2 hours ago, and Im still waiting on my rental car..What in the world!!!!! So it doesnt even matter if youre AVIS PREFERRED, they didnt even have my information up. He had no clue that I was preferred. 😡What seems extremely broken at this location:1. Lack of forwardness with truthful information.2. No attention to prepaid bookings. I mean it makes no sense for someone to pre-book, use their preferred and STILL SIT 2 HRS!!!! #trash3. The agents at the desk will have moments of do nothing yet the line is overly long.4. No amount of pleasantries makes up for the lack of preparation that this location continues to demonstrate.5. They have had a sign up for MONTHS saying they are understaffed. Okay so what does that really say? Does no one want to work for you? Hmmm, then why is that? This makes absolutely no sense! Ive been sitting here so long Ive watched 3 different flights land and get their luggage. This just makes NO GOOD SENSE!WHEN I LANDED THE SUN WAS OUT AND SHINING NOW THE MOON IS ALMOST UP .....who runs this location? Wheres the accountability??Edit: Not to mention this shows carelessness towards a travelers tolerance for needed rest. I have heard several people now say they are so sleepy they have no clue how they will drive to their destination. Theyve waiting Herr now 3 hrs. What the what....All the ladies behind the counters are shouting is this happens everyday. So everyday lacks preparation....SMH
I will never use AVIS again! Made reservation for Savanah Hilton Head Airport ended up rental car was from HiltonHead Airport. No one would help us. No one would changeour pick up and drop off locations. Had to rent a rental car for one day from Savanah to Hilton Head and again the last day of our trip. Instead of costing us 400.00 further week it cost us 1000.00. Rental car companies are a complete rip off! No one would help us.
I would give negative stars if it was an option here. The story is we had booked a rental car and at the time of arrival the rental car service was closed at the airport; having prior called and told to us that they will stay open until flight arrives. We had already paid and made sure the service will be available; there was NO-ONE, NO MESSAGE NO BODY TO TELL WHAT IS GOING ON? if they are even on field. had to pay $200 for uber becasue of the unprofressional rude very nasty service.
Waited over 2 hours in line to get my car even though I had made a reservation, prepaid, and set a pickup time ahead of time. If you have to rent through Avis, don’t plan to do anything for 2+ hours after you land because that’s how long it will take you to get your car.
Got to location, line out the door only 3 customer service personnel on duty, going to wedding in ford escape, rental resevation was for a standard size Camry or equal.....Facility to small for operation location ...No attendee to receive vehicle on return... No check-in receipt.... As of 14:00 has still no check-in email.... Vehicle was dropped off at Budgets lot at 04:35 am.
Staff was overwhelmed and did not seem up to the task during rental and return. I was not provided with a receipt upon return and told to go to counter (which had LONG line). I was over-charged by about $100. My receipt was NOT emailed upon return and in fact arrived about 5 weeks late...charging me around $100 MOPRE than my reservation.WORST experience with Avis ever
Thay dont even deserve 1 star. Almost 3 hours of waiting for a car because they dont have the decency to hire enought staff to clean their cars. The male customer service rep was very rude and threatened to cancel everyones reservation. Very very poor service. This is the ONLY AVIS that Ive had repeated problems
Hellish experience at the Avis rental at Savannah airport. Two hours, let me say that again, a two hour wait due to extreme understaffing. Then when you get to the counter to finally complete the transaction have to wait an additional 30 minutes for the car to get clean. The wait on the line was longer then the flight from NY LaGuardia. Extrememly dissatisfying, hellish never want to repeat experience.
The waiting process wasn’t to long it was like an hour but my problem was I got my car it was not detailed or cleaned before I got it it had a mildew like odor and the tank was not full. For some reason every morning I entered the car the windshield on the inside of the car was covered with water
It takes literal hours to process through the line and another hour to wait for the car to be ready. My experience with Avis stands out among the absolute worst experiences with any business, from how they are staffed to their processes to their inability to execute their primary task. The lines at their competitors are much shorter. Use them. Avis does not deserve yours or anyone elses business.
Took a flight to Savanna Georgia booked flight car and hotel car reservations at 445pm got to the rental car place at 4oclock why will it be 2 to 3 hours before I can get a car ? Extremely irritating wont be booking with budget or avis again ruined my whole trip and they also did nothing to compensate me for my inconvenience
3 hours waiting in line while I pre-paid for the car!!!!!Not only that, after that we waited for one more hour to receive the car.Oh BTW, we paid for sport car buy they gave us horse car (that what employee told us) which was punctured and during all my trip from Savannah to Atlanta made me stop in gas stations and fill it up!!!
Never again!!! I had an extremely disappointing experience with Avis. I was charged twice for my rental. I prepaid for my rental only to be talked into an upgrade because my intended rental wasn’t ready. When I got in the car, it was filthy. There were spills, trash, and crumbs everywhere. I had to clean the car before driving it. I am getting the run around on being charged for the same rental twice. I warn you beforehand. Don’t go to AVIS. I’m a frequent traveler and I believed Avis missed out on a repeat customer.
The Avis Representative was rude, condescending, and impatience. My flight arrive 30 mins before my car rental was scheduled to be picked. The representative made me pay more for being early. I had already prepaid online. This was definitely a bad experience and wouldnt recommend this rental service to anyone.
Prepaid $307 week before I picked up car. Had to wait an inordinate amount of time to get the car and was asked the same info all over again by attendant at pickup counter. I gave her a copy of my confirmation and was told she didnt need it so I had to do everything all over again at the counter. Now I am charged an additional $164 on my credit card that I was not anticipating. Its over and above the $307 you already billed me. So essentially it cost me nearly $500 to rent an intermediate SUV for two days and drive about 75 miles. Now you want to know if Ill use Avis again. I have to call tomorrow to get an explanation of the second set of charges. Never had to do that with any other rental company. Avis full of surprises and they are all negative.
Our rental had a flat so we needed to get a new one. Employees there were nice and helpful. Two of the three employees kept asking the third questions about how to do things and she was awesome helping customers and the employees. They were short staffed but all three were great even though I heard a number of people complaining to them. And Im talking to pony tail guy here - be nice to people, the woman you were yelling at didnt double charge you or mess your reservation up, she got it straightened out for you. The line was long but they got everyone taken care of as fast as they could. Good customer service here.
First let me start by saying the staff was great. The line to the counter at the SAV airport was very long and not moving. We waited 2 hours. The problem seemed to be a combination of people wanting rentals and not more staff to handle the demand. Avis prices were much better than the competition, but with no extra staff to handle the increased traffic made that benefit feel less important.
There was no spare tire with the car, so the car had to be towed from Hilton Head to Savannah that took almost whole 24 hours. I then could not get a car to replace without getting a ride to Hilton Head local airport and was provided a smaller dirty car. Then the next day had to show up at Savannah Airport for an exchange so that I could pick up our company arriving. When I got the first car on Oct. 2, I had to wait close to two hours. When I had to exchange the car on Oct. 9, because Avis did not have a spare tire with the car, I had to wait 4 hours. It was a very frustrating experience.
Im an Avis preferred member and it took over an hour to get my car. We had to wait in line to get a car, no ability to select car via the app and go straight to it. Once we finally made it through the line and got to the vehicle, the booster seats I ordered were not in the car and we had to wait another 20 mins for someone to bring them. Terrible experience. I would not/ and do not recommend Avis to anyone and am doing everything in my power to influence my company to move away from Avis for all of our business travel needs.
Waited 90 minutes in (a non-socially distanced) line for our reserved car. That wait, and the failure to do line management with people who refused to wear masks, is unacceptable. That said, I have to offer my sincere admiration for the staff; it was clear that theyd been working long hours, probably for days or weeks on end. Their attitude was exemplary - laughing and joking and doing their best to make it better, never letting it get to them. Avis should be proud of their staff. The woman immediately in front of me in line had had a perfect storm of bad luck, and her reservation had expired while she was standing in line. By the rules, staff should have sympathized and then moved on to the next customer in line, but the actual staff member got creative and bent every rule she could to assist this woman. Im perfectly willing to wait an extra 10-15 minutes if I can see the staff displaying this level of service to a customer. The wait is worth the conviction that theyre going to understand and solve my problem.90 minute wait is unacceptable; it meant that we missed scheduled commitments in the rest of our trip. But the customer service and compassion were admirable.
Giving 2 stars instead of 1 as felt like the counter service people were doing the best they could. We had an Avis Preferred rental, and received a push notification upon landing that our car was ready and waiting. Far from it. We arrived at the Avis service counter to find a massive line, and warnings that this location was short staffed. The wait in line took 90 minutes. After making it to the front, we were told our car would be up in 30-45 minutes. 105 minutes later the car finally arrived.Just a horrific experience. Avis should accept only the number of reservations they can responsibly handle given the staffing issues. Grossly unfair to push that burden onto their customers.
Worse experience ever!! The car costed $400/day and had its maintenance light on the dash. The car begin to shake on e we got to highway. The car also stalled at pull-off. I called roadside assistance and I have yet to receive assistance. The customer rep that was going to call me back from roadside assistance has not called me once. I waited on the roadside for over an hour before deciding to take my chances with the car because I was In the middle of the trip. No assistance was ever sent. I called customer service about 10 times to no avail. One lady dropped the call, but never call me back. This was the worst experience.
This was without a doubt the worst experience I ever had at any rental car pick up. It took two hrs.(not an exageration) for me and tons of other people to get our cars. The counter people were nice (although could use some training in communication skills) but they werent the bottle neck. Apparently they are so short staffed that they couldnt get the cars cleaned in time. I know everyone is short staffed nowadays but I am left wondering how AVIS didnt know this ahead of time and made no effort to communicate to customers that their cars would not be ready anywhere near on time so customers could have choose other arrangements. I for one would have and now feel like I wasted my money. I think all customers would have appreciated some form of communication from AVIS up front so they could make other choices about what to do with their time. Poor Job AVIS!
Waited at the airport in an line of about 200 people for over 5 hours for a car I had reserved 3 months in advance. The incompetence and lack of care was astonishing. I cannot believe this company is still operating. When I finally received the vehicle at 11:30pm it smelled horribly of smoke and was visibly filthy but at that point I was just grateful to be able to drive away with a car. Will NEVER rent from Avis again!!!!
After reading the recent reviews, we had the exact same problem. Landed in Savannah, only to wait 3 hours for our prepaid rental car. If it wasnt prepaid, we would have just left. Staff was nice, but not apologetic (I guess at that point, what can they say?).Being short staffed is one thing, but there were only 2 car companies experiencing traffic and problems. Avis and Budget, who happened to be located at the same rental counter.Needless to say, I will try to avoid renting from Avis when possible in the future. Especially in Savannah.
NEVER EVER RENT FROM AVIS OR BUDGET AT THE SAVANNAH AIRPORT AGAIN!!! WAIT IS ALWAYS IN EXCESS OF 2 or MORE HOURS. I TRAVEL CONSTANTLY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AND THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE THAT CONTINUES TO FAIL THE CUSTOMER!! GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AVIS AND BUDGET!!!! IF THEY HAD A WAY TO GIVE NEGATIVE STARS……YOU WOULD BOTH GET THEM!!!! AND LASTLY, STOP APOLOGIZING IN THE REVIEW FORUM AND FIX YOUR MESS!!
I have to be honest here. Avis has always been a great option for me over the years, but this was the worst experience Ive ever had in 23 years of traveling. When we landed in Savannah on June 12th the lines at the counter had ~100 people. Thankfully I was an Avis preferred member and that line only only had ~30 people. Being a preferred member I normally skip the counter and walk directly to the car. Needless to say this option was not available. The lines moved incredibly slow as rumors circulated through the crowd about cars availability, and wait times. My wife called customer service to get more information but was given the run around for 45 minutes until eventually told they could not help and had no information. We stood in line for 3 hours until we finally got to the front where there Avis rep says there were no minivans available and they would need to check the return lot. After 30 minutes they found a couple minivans and offered them up as is, dirty and not refueled. They said cleaning and fueling would take another hour, so we just made due. My family started loading the van while I finalized the contract only to find out it had expired plates. We then had to unload that van and reload into another van nearby. All told it took 4 hours to get the minivans, longer than it took to fly from Dallas. My family had been looking forward to this vacation for over a year, and this started us out on a sour note.
The counter service people were great, especially with the shortage of cars. Our wait time in Savannah was 4 hours. Despite having an advanced reservation there was a shortage of cars. There were many frustrated customers, including us. Now that the pandemic is over and travel has picked up, Avis must start restocking the fleet. Savannah, with Hilton Head Island close by, needs to have more minivans and large SUVs because of the large numbers of families and golfers. The counter personnel blamed the corporate office for overbooking reservations. If this is true, please reexamine your algorithms. We arrived with a group of 5 adults and 2 children. We ended up with the smaller Nissan Pathfinder instead of the minivan we reserved months prior and had to travel with luggage on some of our laps. We should have received some compensation or discount on our rental, and even a second smaller car at no cost in order to safely transport our passengers and luggage. The car return process was better and the staff was friendly and courteous.
We arrived late at the SAV airport to pickup a two week rental for my familys vacation. The counter was open, but there was only one person working both the AVIS and Budget counter. Service was very slow. The only car available for our rental was a Toyota Tacoma pickup. I run a business as well and understand the issues in the used car market and the labor market. However, I was shocked Avis would consider renting this vehicle, particularly given the price we paid for the rental. This vehicle had 40,000 miles on it and it was a hooptie. It was dirty on the inside - literally a spiderweb on the drivers side window. There were no mats and the carpet was literally worn through to the floorboard on the drivers side. The passenger side airbag sensor light was on when occupied, the seat belt indicator light was malfunctioning and always on regardless of the seat being occupied. The exterior was damaged and scuffed in several areas. The plastic lining the tailgate had large chucks of plastic gouged out of it. On our last day, we had issues with tire pressure indicators. There was a broken leaf spring hanging down in the back. I cant imagine how this vehicle was purchased or placed in the fleet! I would never have taken this car if it werent literally my only choice on a dark rainy night. I could never have listed all the damage on it in order to protect myself as the renter. Avis, I know things are difficult right now, but this is not the answer to keep your market share - placing your guests in vehicles that will insure that they never come back.
The people working at the Savannah Airport Avis were great and very friendly. The experience was one of the worst I have ever experienced renting a car. My family and I had to wait in a line for over 3 hours before getting to the front desk to get the car. Unacceptable!
Waited in line at the desk for over an hour.. and I was among the lucky ones who werent there longer. They didnt have the car I had reserved a month earlier, so they up-charged me for a different one rather than it being a discount. After two flight delays and a travel day that was already 10 hours long, Avis found ways to make it all more unenjoyable.
Dropped off the vehicle 3 days early. No one at the e counter when I went to drop it off, which was fine because they told me when I checked it out, that if they weren’t out the counter to drop the key and contract in the drop box. I am now being called and told that I have failed to return a rental vehicle. I cannot get in touch with the airport, have been on the phone for 4 1/2 hours being transferred through different customer service reps from all over the world and was even told by a rep, that it would probably be easier for me to fly out to Georgia to speak with the counter directly, as I cannot do so over the phone. So obviously they do not do their job in checking the lock box and matching up agreements because if so, I wouldn’t be getting called almost a week later about this.
Over 5 hours to get a rental car. We prepaid that made no difference. They are clearly over booking and doing nothing to correct the problem. It’s terrible review after terrible review for a reason.Initial review was written while still in line. After I finally got to the counter I was informed that that they didn’t have any standard size SUZ’s so I would have to get a compact. When I asked about getting a refund for the difference I was told they couldn’t handle it at the counter I would have to call customer service. Then when I got out to the car it smelled very strong of cigarettes. I wish I could give the negative 5 stars.
I booked a vehicle for my vacation in July for travel in August. My pick up time was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. I stood in line waiting for my vehicle from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. the entire experience was horrendous. I dont understand why my vehicle was not in the lot at 11:30 a.m. for my scheduled reservation. Your representative said that there was no on-site rentals of vehicles. She clearly lied because there is an entire lot of vehicles at the SAV/HILTON HEAD airport. I prepaid and pre booked for the rental and still had to wait hours to get into a vehicle. Furthermore I waited 4 hours for an unclean vehicle. The interior was dirty and had an unknown substance on the back passenger side seat. I will not waste my time renting a vehicle again. From now on I will use Uber or Lyft.
I dont mean to be dramatic, but I would actually recommend that someone not choose Avis based on my rental experience in Savannah. I waited 2 hours in line to get to the desk and then after having my reservation processed I waited another hour for my car to be ready. The attendants never made any announcement to the long line of people waiting to explain what was going on. There was supposed to a line for the Preferred service, but the sign was turned around so no one knew it was an option (although it likely wouldnt have mattered because the service was so slow). After my reservation was processed, they supposedly called my name once and I missed it, but then my completed packet sat there for who knows how long and I only got it once I stopped someone who was announcing a car ready for another customer and asked her to check on mine because I was waiting so long. Upon checking she discovered that it was completed earlier, but they never announced my name again. Just an overall bad process and bad customer service experience. There is clearly a lack of management of that branch that needs to be addressed.
I arrived on time to pick up my car afer my flight along with 30 other customers. I tried to canel my reservation and go with another rental car service that did not have a long line. However, I was not able switch, because I would not receive a refund since it was pass the pick time waiting in line to be served. Which it took over 3 hours be waited on. Avis should had adequate amount of staff to serve that many customers base off the reservations they received for that time period.
We booked our reservation through Southwest and had several flight changes resulting from airline changes. Therefore we arrived several hours before the original reservation and ended up waiting 4 1/2 hours to get our car, including well past our original reservation time. We received a call indicating that they could get our vehicle to us by 4 pm and still ended up waiting until 6:30 pm. We were travelling with a 1 1/2 year old and it was miserable. The agents kept telling us we didnt understand the process. We have travelled a lot for personal and work and never experienced such a horrible rental car experience.
Would not recommend at all!!! Currently sitting on the side of I-95 waiting on emergency roadside assistance!!!! Was involve in a major accident on the highway and have been waiting for a tow truck for over 2 hours. They told the officer they were towing the vehicle because of the officer tows it they consider it impounded and I would not be able to get another vehicle . They said I would receive a text of when the tow would arrive and never got one. I had to call back and find out they never got a tow truck and now asking me to get an officer to tow the vehicle which they were going to do in the first place . Now cannot get a hold of the officer and I have been here since approx 10:30 pm and it is now 12:53 smh!!!
Waiting in line for 4 1/2 hours for a rental car is unacceptable. If you are renting in Savannah, find another company. There isnt enough staff for the demand. No one to meet you when you return your car and no one preparing cars for rental. They have cars....Wonder why they cant hire people. Oh thats right, the government is paying them to stay home with the bonus. Way to go Uncle Sam.
On May 24, 2021 I flew into Savanah Airport. My flight landed 30 mins early so I figured Id be at my resort by 2. Needless to say Avis would not let that happen. As I waited for our bags, my wife got on a line that stretched from the counter to the back wall. There was sign on the counter asking for patience as they were short staffed, however there still were three people working. We waited on that line for close to two hours. When I finally reached the counter, I was told that I couldnt rent a car because I was using a debit card. Even though I reserved my car with the same card and a sign on the counter clearly stated that debit cards are allowed with proof of a return trip which I had. After redoing our reservation with my wifes card, and being told youll never be a Premier Member because you didnt sign up with a credit card, we waited another 45 minutes for our car. We also asked that I be put on as a driver and we were told, No, we wont rent to him so he cant drive our car. Overall her attitude towards me was rude at the very least.Dollar rental is right next to Avis, had no lines and cars available, for the same overpriced amount as did Avis.. I would have used them, but I had a certificate for Avis that I needed to use. I did see others use it.Never again will I use Avis anywhere. They definitely dont try harder in Savanah.
My car REEKED of cigarette smoke and was covered from front to back inside with ash, had to wait nearly 45 minutes just to be told there was nothing Avis could do as they didnt have additional cars (which is understandable) however my experience the rest of my trip was quite terrible every time we got in the car we all wanted to throw up from the smell. My family spent the entire week with a car that smelled awful. Ive been an Avis preferred customer for nearly 10 years, this is unacceptable, at a bare minimum a discount could have been offered for the inconvenience.
I prepaid for a full size truck only to be told by the Avis attendant that they didnt have a truck to give me. But there were 2 trucks at the car pick area. She said she could give me a Nissan pathfinder for the same price. A full size truck cost more than a mid size pathfinder! The attendant outside was very helpful and was about to get a van for me. Not what I wanted or prepaid for! He even said they had trucks and showed me 2 of them. But the lady a the counter would not rent them to me for some crazy reason. i took the van and made it work but it was not easy! The van started having problems on the way home from our trip. The check engine light was on and it was skipping and had no power. I dont see how someone can rent a preferred type of vehicle and if showed it was available at the Airport location only to be denied and then offered a low class vehicle! This is not good customer service!!
On Sept 9th I landed at the Savanah Airport at 4:45. I went immediately to the Avis rental counter in the airport. I had made reservations weeks in advance. There was only one lady working the counter for non- club members. It took over 2.5 hours to get a set of keys to a filthy dirty Ford explorer! The lady behind the counter took an average of 18 minutes per customer. ( all of the people around me were timing her!!) I own my own business and I know for a fact that if it treated my customers as terrible as your company treated us we would be out of business for sure!! We are all aware of the affects of covid and all that comes with that. But the way your company is handling the lack of staff is ridiculous and unacceptable. It didnt take 2.5 hours to fly to SC from Chicago. But that is how long it took to stand in line for a car I already reserved weeks in advance!!
I had a small car for a week, on Saturday I had a reservation to get a larger car. I was two hours before my reservation time. Nobody was at the counter to rent cars. The employee told me to return in two hours. After my wait I was given a vehicle that was filthy and smelled of weed. So I returned to the counter and told the employee of the cars conditions. She tried to convince me it wasnt dirty and didnt smell from behind the counter, without seeing the car. Then I had to wait an additional 40 minutes for a clean car. So in total it took me almost 4 hours to rent a car. My Saturday was wasted sitting at an avis counter.
Cars were extremely overpriced due to a claimed shortage. Lack of staffing at the counter and lot. Line was 8-10 customers long when I arrived, with about another 6-8 customers that had completed paperwork and awaiting keys. Counters excuse was that there were only 2 people shuttling cars to the terminal. Waited over 45 minutes after I had completed paperwork for my car to arrive, and my car arrived much quicker than most as there were people that arrived before me that were still waiting. Overall a very disappointing experience.
I am grateful that Avis has the option to return to a different location (as all car RENTAL companies should still be doing, especially with the issues currently hindering travelers), however, it is frustrating when you submit a rental requesting at 7 AM pickup but the attendees are in NO RUSH to assist and you never get a car until an hour or more later. That is frustrating when you are stuck driving 9 hours!
Ordered a 8 passenger rental vehicle and received a 7 passenger. When I called customer service they were not helpful in resolving this issue. We had to drive for a week, with a child on a lap. They could not provide the vehicle I ordered. I was promised a $100 refund for the mistake by a manager. Nothing received to date. I will be telling all of my friends, family and social media to never rent from Avis. You will lose a lot more than the $100 refund I never received by losing all of this business. If you are willing to refund a more acceptable amount, I would reconsider renting from you in the future and not post negative feedback and comments.
The lines at the Savannah Airport were problematic. In addition, the people at the counter were taking new reservations while people who were paid were waiting to process background checks etc. I signed up for preferred status and then the preferred line took a customer who was starting the process and cost me an additional 15 minutes. I could have waited two to three hours if I did not sign up for preferred while in line. People are coming off of flights and then for this to happen is unacceptable. I was also charged additional money even though I was prepaid but did not want to argue because of the line. I would like a refund of my almost $250 additional dollars spent to avoid a scene out of respect for the people in the non preferred line.
Stay away from this company. Like many others, I was also told a vehicle wasnt ready, and my only option was to take an upgrade for an additional cost of $50-60 dollars a day. This seems to be a common tactic with this store. But now theyre saying I never returned the car and are trying to charge me additional fees for each day I have it. I literally handed the keys back to the agent at the counter and flew home.DO NOT rent from these people!
Made reservations for a vehicle over a months ago, have NEVER left a review but wanted to make a point to tell everyone how horrible this Avis is. Have been waiting for over 2hrs and still waiting. ALL of the other rental companies have 0 line and have moved customers through pretty quickly. This is actually ridiculous and I regret renting a car in the first place.
Zero stars. We made our reservation almost 3 months in advance, landed at Savannah came down to Avis and there was a long line with people waiting for TWO HOURS that made reservations and they were told they would have a car and were still waiting. We waited in a line for an hour. When I tried to ask an employee a question she shut me down and said “no I’m busy” very rudely. Other people had been waiting in line for almost 3 hours when they had RESERVATIONS. This is ridiculous they have obviously overbooked themselves and then proceeded to be rude to customers. This was not our fault, but they treated their customers like it was. Absolutely ridiculous and not ok.We ended up going to thrifty to rent a car. The prices were not worth the poor customer service Do NOT go here for rental cars!
I needed a rental badly, and went thru the process quickly. One day into the rental, I find that I have a discount program at work. Long story short, Avis would not honor the discount, mind you, I rented this car for over two weeks. I will use the discount, I just wont rent from Avis in the future.
Horrible customer service! Our car got a flat the second day and we waited 3 hours and they never came to pick us up. Constantly on hold and lied to. I’d seriously walk before renting from them again. Cops were nice to drive us home. Edit….I saw your response. What a condescending joke. I called and you only refunded $50!!!! That’s pocket change. These guys are crooks.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH AVIS! Literally THE WORST experience I’ve ever had renting a car. I made a reservation through CONCUR with my companies account. When I go t there, the woman at the counter said that since I ordered earlier that morning (same day), they didn’t have a vehicle available for me. I was confused because I have ordered same day before with other companies as well as AVIS and had never had any issues. She proceeded to say that if I accepted an upgrade, she would be able to get me into a vehicle but it would be a daily upcharge of like $50 or $60. I sat there puzzled and ANGRY at why I would be penalized and charged due to a mistake by AVIS! She then asked, “so do you want to do it or not” in an attempt to rush me because there was a line! I didn’t only feel extremely pressured, I also felt completely scammed/taken advantage of! I was absolutely FURIOUS, but I also had no other choice because I literally needed to be on the road driving within that hour to be on time for my work meeting so I had no other choice but to agree to the upgrade that I was pretty much forced to take and pay the upcharge. As nonchalant as she was with telling me that I had to pay to upgrade after I’d done nothing wrong....It was blatantly obvious to me that these types of dishonest interactions were common practice and she had just taken advantage of me in an attempt to solidify an upgrade for herself! If I had enough time to set up a reservation with a different company, I would have in a heartbeat! I did inform my my companies HR partner who informed the team that solidified these contracts with different hotels and rental companies. Apparently there was a known issue with AVIS and there were several other instances where individuals from my company had been charged significantly higher than the normally agreed upon corporate rate and. Nowadays, I am very intentional with trying to look at other companies when renting a car through my companies website or on my own. I will also GLADLY pay a little more in order to not have to do business with AVIS! HONESTY AND INTEGRITY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME! If I feel an individual or company lacks these necessary traits, I will immediately become a detractor and not only refuse to do business with them, but I will also discourage my friends, family and colleagues from doing business with them also!
Just like every single other review, I landed in Savannah at 5:30 PM and currently it is 7 PM and still no car and I have about seven people still in front of me. I can’t comment on the staff because we have not encountered them yet but I have rented From hertz three times from the same airport and I haven’t waited longer than five minutes each time. When a company is understaffed and over books that is unacceptable. They either need to be shut down or figure something else out. I have read reviews that go back as far as last year, And all of the bad reviews say the same things. A couple people said they had to wait over 4 to 5 hours. If I am here that long this is going to start my trip off very bad.
I waited two hours in line to rent the vehicle. My preferred status meant nothing. You dont have enough people and your technology is woefully behind the times. You are still doing incessant typing on a keyboard with a reserved, pre-paid rental. I will carefuly consider whether to use Avis ever again.
Unbelievable! Booked reservation online and lined up for an HOUR when we got to the counter lady said “No Same Day Reservations! What? We had an email saying we did have a car. Just like that. Wow!!! And after that someone had told us that they had been doing the same thing all summer.
This company needs to hire some help.. We had to stand long lines for hours to get our car.. We ordered Corolla and last ones was given to someone that came in line after me. Many people that came after me was given a car before us. Some people jump the preferred line and were not preferred customers. The suv was too small for our luggage..now i have been home for a week and you are just checking in the car. Ridiculous... The worst service ever.. Doing business with all was the worst part of my vacation...
Took 2 hours from getting in line to get my car. I watched as everyone in front of me got one till I begged the woman to just switch to any available vehicle. Staff was nice but overwhelmed totally understaffed. The car drop off was confusing as no where was the parking listed and noone was around and you had to manually record your mileage and fuel and walk the keys inside
Currently waiting 1.5 hours for a car in Savannah Gorgia. Super long line. Everyones in the same boat unless you went with Thriffy, Dollar or Hertz which has had at most, 3 people in line the entire time weve been here. Almost been waiting longer than my flight and have reservation. Will never use Avis again major regret
First of all, I wasnt told that if you swipe your card twice cant be used. Secondly, I wanted to drop my days down to 3 days and was told I couldnt do that. Lastly and most importantly, I had an emergency come up and had to return the car back sooner than what I expected. I kept the vehicle less than 5 or 6 hours and was told I will be charged for the amount. I do not see why that will be the case but I will be speaking to someone about this. Also, I do not know why you guys are price gouging. For one day $606 is ridiculous if you check other cities the prices arent this expensive. The reason you guys prices are expensive is because the PGA Tournament in Hilton Head which isnt right because I do not play golf.
Once again I got to the the rental desk at 9:00 pm to wait alone for 20 mins in the Preferred line before I was acknowledged. When I finally got an agent I found that my car wasnt ready and the agent wasnt able to get anyone on the phone to bring a car up to the terminal. This has happened to me every time Ive flown into SAV this year which has been every 3 weeks since Jan. I unfortunately was so distressed by the situation that I lost my temper and demanded they rent me one of the two cars for which 2 sets of keys were hanging. Of course it was for amore expense level of auto but I wanted to be on my way given it was the end of the day. I understand that your SAV operation is understaffed but as a loyal Preferred member, I find the continuing situation inexcusable and plan to rent from your competition in three weeks when I fly back to SAV.
Terrible experience. Took us almost 3 hours to receive our vehicle. People behind us in line started receiving their vehicles and we asked a worker to check on our order and they apparently had a miscommunication so our vehicle was never prepared (after waiting over an hour for the car). They tried to offer us a credit on the car but they were unable to because we pre-paid online which is ridiculous because if you dont pre-pay it costs exponentially more and our rental was still almost $600 for a couple of days.
Why are your lines always the longest? You got more people working the counter than any other rental, yet it takes an hour to get a car. Even worse you have to wait in same line to return the vehicle. Maybe re-think your strategy and you wont be the worst. What a joke.Update: They did not have cars, handing them out as they were returned, myself and 15 other people had to wait for another 30 min, what a sad operation.
First off it was nearly $700 to get any car. We prepaid for a 4 door compact car. When we arrived we stood in line for over an hour to even speak to anyone. Finally got to the front of the line only to find out they had reserved us a Beetle... Which has 2 doors. Im 8 months pregnant with a 2 year old in tow, which is why I made sure to reserve a 4 door. They refused to change it and made us upgrade to get the 4 doors, even though their website clearly says 4 doors. Now, 2 hours later, were still waiting for our incredibly over priced, forced upgrade!!
Worst car rental experience of my life. Waited in line for 1 and a half hours for a reservation I prepaid. I then was downgraded to a poorly maintained tiny Mitsubishi Outlander Sport instead of the 4 runner I paid for. I was not provided a discount. The car smelled like smoke and was in such bad need of an alignment that the steering wheel vibrated violently at 65mph.
Waiting in line for this rental car 1hr and 30 min. After the line there was a 2nd line of people just waiting to have their car brought up to which multiple people had waiting an additional hour. This caused us to miss our 1st anniversary photoshoot which we had planned with plenty of time to make it there.
Car was not ready at time of pick up. I paid ahead of time with expedia. Was charged the next day 8/17/2021 $975. Was told my car was returned to Portland Maine. Im in Georgia. Told I will get refunded but charging almost a thousand dollars on a clerical error from 8 states away.
Reserved car class was not available at requested time and I had to wait in the terminal for approximately 30 minutes while a vehicle was brought up. Vehicle had a good size dent on the front left side. Vehicle smelled like smoke or cannabis, smell lasted for many days. Wheel alignment and balance were off. Wheel would pull to the center and vibrated heavily at highway speeds. Overall, terrible experience.
Had to wait 3 hours for a car. My reservation time not honored. A voucher or discount should have been offered. There was no communication regarding delay. Staff very unfriendly and unprofessional. I know theyre is a pandemic right now, but it is the way you handle it that makes all of the difference!
The wait time at the Savannah Airport counter was way too long considering that there were 4 stations staffed and open. The car that I was provided with had significant stains on two of the seats probably from soft drinks there was one possibly two seats with cigarette burns and the driver side seat adjustment lever was covered in a syrupy goop.
Upon arrival at Savannah airport, we went to the Avis counter as instructed in our email. We had gone through the process of pre-paying and pre-registering because according to your company, it would make the process faster. We still waited over an hour in line just to speak to someone. We then had to wait another 45 minutes for our RESERVED car to be ready. If a customer has a car reserved, paid for and pre-registered, there is no reason for them to have to waste that much of their vacation time. The attendant told us they have been this busy for over a month. You should really consider better staffing solutions.
When I picked up my car on Friday, I upgraded to a larger size, to enhance my experience. I drove straight to Hilton Head, where the car was parked until Sunday morning. I could not get into the car, the remote was not responding. I called the emergency roadside number, which after being on hold 15 minutes, was a complete disaster. I had to give him my name and contact information four times. I spoke with him for over an hour. He instructed me to the manual key, and when I got in, the car would not start. He set up a tow service (two times), and could not give me much more information other than the Hilton Head Avis “was not answering their phone.” After an hour on the phone, another 30 minutes went by without any confirmation from the towing company. Someone at our resort helped to jump the car. Based on the unreliability of Avis so far, I decided to drive to the Savannah Airport while the car was working to exchange it. I then received the towing confirmation text. I called them to let them know it was no longer needed, and the woman at the towing company just said, “It can’t be cancelled.” I shared, the car is currently working so I am taking it in to exchange it and all she said again was “It cant be cancelled.” I also called the Avis line again to let them know, I am bringing the car in myself. When I arrived in Savannah, I let the attendant know I couldnt refill that car, as it was jumped and there was a high chance it wouldnt start again. She told me that was perfectly okay and not a problem. I was given another vehicle that smelled of cigarettes. At this point, I was so frustrated I just had the attendant sign my contract that it smelled of smoke at pick up, and took the car. I returned the second car full on Wednesday, and am now seeing a $16 fuel service charge that shouldnt be there. I am entirely frustrated with this entire experience. It wasted hours of my vacation.
The worst Avis rental car branch Ive been to. The rental car branch should have known in advance that an influx of cus will be in during that day, 5June2021, and they are short staffed. Theyll issue you your contract and make you wait for another hour to get the keys to your car, and that was after wait for almost 30 minutes to get to the counter.
We had to wait over 2.5 hrs to get our pre registered car. After picking up the car it was dirty. When we awoke the next morning I noticed the rental agreement said we had a full tank when in actuality it was on empty. Took 5 days to finally get someone on the phone to explain.
First you had the nerve to charge NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a Mitsubishi Outlander for 5 days. Thats an average of 180 per day for a vehicle similar to the Ford Escape. Then you said it didnt have XM radio, which it did. When I requested it be turned on as I found out, you said I would have to come back to the desk to exchange the vehicle. Then I return a day late to be greeted by a THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR upcharge. Is this how you typically treat your customers who always use your service? At the rates you are charging post covid, thats over THREE THOUSAND SEVEN FIFTY DOLLARS per month, rental fees only. You can probably buy a new vehicle in 6 months!
The worst service I have ever hadOur flight from Newark arrived I Savvanh at 1:37It is now 4:10We are still in line for Avis car...have to pay fine $200 to cancel and go with another rental. They have brought in no new helpPeople are still lined up. DO NOT EVER BookAvis if you want any decent customer service
They gave my car to someone else, he came back with my keys, gave me a rental agreement with the wrong car, I got stopped by the police and my car that I rented was not on the agreement. The agreement was a black fusion I drove a gray Nissan altima. I had to talk my way out of that. I am a premier customer I wasnt treated like one. The people at the counter was not very nice and gave very little service or additional info and I drove a car that was stripped with nothing on it. I was at the counter with Budget rental people. It sucked. Back to enterprise or hertz
Wish I would have read the reviews prior to pre-paying for my rental. Waited 2.5 hours for my vehicle. As most mention, the staff worked hard and was apologetic, but I gladly would have paid the premium at another rental agency (no lines whatsoever) to save over 2 hours of time on a short 3 day trip with 3 boys under 11.
Customer service! My flight was delayed about 8 hours resulting in arrival after Avis hours. Due to Avis policy, since my flight info was on file, the lady stayed until about 3:30 AM just for me as there were no other rentals. And she was extremely friendly despite that! She should be recognized - I dont remember her name (sleep deprivation) but she worked Avis counter at Savannah Sunday June 13th (into the wee hours of Monday June 14th!)
The rental offered me was in poor condition. It had obvious damage from being rear-ended. When I returned to the counter, I was simply told to photograph the damage to document it and that no other cars were available at this location. This car was noisy and needs suspension work. Very disappointing.UPDATE: Avis extended me a credit for a future rental, which in this case was the correct thing to do. Kudos to your customer service staff for that.
Terrible customer service..Vehicle had 4 bald tires. One tire went flat, no tools to take off tire. Had to call road service. Spare had no air. Shame on Avis. My family could have been injured or worse. We brought the vehicle back, they gave us another. They said they would issue a $150 credit on our acct..Ill believe it when i see it.
CLICK MORE TO SEE UPDATE: I did try to reach them below...You cant return your car outside so have to go into the airport and wait on line...nightmare! Hoping I dont miss my flight!!!UPDATE - And its not a good one!So the person Ashley responded below and we tried to contact her back about our issues as since I wrote the above review I realized I had left my favorite sun hat in the car. This may not seem like a big deal but it had great sentimental value to me. NO ONE HAS GOTTEN BACK TO US; we have left a number of voicemails, emails, filled out forms and even tried to look for the hat in their Lost & Found portal on their website. You click where it says click here to view lost property and there is not one image, it is a blank screen.DO NOT USE AVIS!!
Upon picking up the vehicle, the vehicle that existed was very much damaged; at the time, I contacted an employee to whom I pointed all damages. I was then told to take photos of any dents missing parts, scratches, etc. It hit hard when I opened the door and realized I just paid 300 bucks for filth. The car was dirty, dirty masks, hair, food, spills, prints, dust, keys, etc. This was my first time with you all and one of the worst experiences ever on my birthday. I will never rent from Avis again, and Im canceling my business account. Pick Savannah Airport Location, nothing done at all no apologies, nothing. I have several photos to share online as well. I want my money back to this will be disputed
Arrived to Savannah and have been waiting for over 2 hours to get our vehicles we reserved several months ago. They dont have the cars and are trying to offer dirty vehicles. I called customer service only to be hung up on. Called back and they told me I could not leave a complaint nor help me. Why allow for reservations if you cannot fulfill them? Then also offer something in return for the inconvenience. Bad business, poor customer service.
As Presidents Club customer used previously using Hertz, as would expect having skip the line as you are marketing when using your app. Most of the time Im learning that app is not working or service only used in limited number of big airports. This time I had to line first about 15 min and then wait for car to be ready about 30 min what was not as expected being a preferred customer.
If I could leave negative stars I would. Booked a full size car online. Tried to call to arrange a drop off, couldn’t get ahold of anyone. Had to pay $30 for an Uber just to get to the office to pick up the car. When we arrived we were told no full size were available. So we chose to downgrade our already paid for full size car to a mid sized car and then we were told that it would cost more money for the smaller car. At this point infuriated at all the trouble with trying to rent a car we were told that a credit check was necessary for the rental. Like who actually would run there credit to rent a car for a day? Absolutely furious we canceled the rental and paid for Lyft the entire trip. Overall this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with what could have been a simple transaction.
Extremely shady business Practices.I rented a car for 24 Hours to drive approximately 10 miles upon arrival at the airport. I authorized a payment for around $50. Upon picking the vehicle up the said that my card would be charged and additional $300 deposit that would fall off later. The ‘deposit’ never was returned. I called in many times to see what this additional charge was and was hung up and and transferred 5-6 times. When I reached someone they said “yea, you broke the AC, anything else I can help you with”. When I explained I didn’t use the AC and only drove the car ten miles the said “yea, ok, anything else I can help you with”. I called back and spoke to someone else, and asked what the additional charges were for and the said that the vehicle had excessive pet hair. I explained I didn’t have any pets and only used the vehicle briefly. They said the was no documentation or photos on the trip for this accusation and that I would receive a credit back to my card within 3 business days. It’s been over a week and I still haven’t received the credit back. I now have to dispute it with my credit card provider. It’s been an extreme inconvenience dealing with this provider and the lack of professionalism is awe inspiring.
The rental car was not dependable. The car would not start. It seemed to be an electronics error. A service call was placed at 4:45 pm. Palmetto service arrived at 7:30 pm. 2 hours and 45 minutes is too long to wait for a service call. The battery had to be disconnected. This is not a situation the customer should be responsible for.
I rented my car online Prepaid. Get to the counter and they tell me they do no same day reservations. Then I am told that they have no cars in the economy size that I rented for me and my husband and if I wanted to rent a car I had to rent a minivan and pay the difference in the cost of the rental. Not only that the car I received had not been vacuumed out as promised so I cant believe that it was sanitized either.

2022-08-11When I arrived at Savannah Airport and got in the Avis line there were eight people in front of me and two clerks servicing. One clerk was serving the club members only. I waited over an hour before more clerks came online at the desk. The car I wanted was not available, so they gave me an upgrade. I went out to the garage and the car was parked in a puddle, the drivers door window was half open and must have been in the pouring rain as the drivers seat was soaking wet. I had to place one of my own towels to place on the seat to keep me dry and the wet stink was awful! The passenger side of the car was covered with dirt. The backup camera was falling off the rear hatch. I took a picture of all the items to include a dent on drivers side rear quarter panel. It was chaos and I dont know if I would ever go through Avis again.

2022-08-18Picked up car, it was not clean at all people are failing to realize it’s still Covid. Stood outside for an hour in the heat so they can clean the car, which should have been done before I pick it up major inconvenience. I also was giving the run around he. Asked who do I call to make a complaint I was giving 3 different numbers

2022-05-23THREE HOURS OF WAITING! Signs say they are short staffed so to be patient, people in the line with me said that this location is always this slow (and sort these maps reviews by most recent and youll see this is something the company has know about for months). We have never waited so long in a line to rent a car anywhere in the world. Almost 2 hours for AVIS Preferred and Budget Fastbreak! It appears the issue is with not enough staff to actually bring the cars down, the desk staff took two 30 minute breaks to allow them to catch up while we waited, not a good look to have people sitting and doing nothing while customers wait for literally hours. It was another 50 minutes of waiting for the car to be ready on top of the 2 line. If you have the option to rent elsewhere from Savannah airport, you should do that, our entire afternoon was ruined by this rental debacle. Most disappointing AVIS experience ever

2022-04-18Same exact problem as all others reviewing. Waited in line about 2 hours, then move to the next waiting area right beside rental counter to wait some more for them to bring you the car youve booked and paid in advance. Word to the wise- have no plans the rest of the day and a charged up phone! Itll be a 3 or 4 hour ordeal. No other provider had any cars or Id of most definitely canceled and tried to go another route. Im coming up at the 3 hour mark now of waiting.--update, finally got to a car and its not filled up. Im sure Ill get charged if I dont return it all the way filled up though!

2022-07-23Literal hour + to pick up a car. Three people at the desk and the line keeps getting longer by the second. In the future, Id pay double not to have to deal with this.Edit: another employee came in and busted through the line significantly more quickly. The person who waited on us was also very good

2022-04-19Was in Savannah for 3 weeks and each time I waited well over 3 hours in line to get a car. Fastbreak or Preferred means nothing at this airport rental service. The line was backed up for hours! What it the point of having a designated line if you are taking priority of those in the regular line? Regardless there was no reason this should have happened. I am soo disappointed, so much so that I am flying into another airport and DRIVING 2 hours to get to Savannah because I know it will be quicker than waiting for a rental at this location. Extremely disappointed.

2022-05-22Had to wait in line 2.5 hours after reserving and checking in ahead of time. Then the car I received was a compact instead of an intermediate size. Then they have been billing me for toll charges I never incurred. Plus the previous rental with them they said I didn’t return the car and charged me more. This had happened more than one time - will have to find another car rental even if I have to pay a higher price. Not worth the headache to deal with this company.

2022-06-27We flew into Savannah after our flight to Charleston was canceled. We had to change our plans real fast before our flight left Minneapolis. I booked a car online and then we boarded. We got in line and read two signs that read no same day reservations and staffing shortage please be patient. We waited about 15 minutes before it was our turn. We were thrilled to find out we did indeed have a car! Michelle, from Avis, worked with us and was able to get a new drop off location instead of driving it back to Savannah. I thanked her for her patience and apologized for being that person who held up the line. I felt because of my patience and kindness in this staffing shortage of a world we live in currently, she was extra helpful and kind back. In world a world where you can be anything, please be kind.

2022-05-25Extremely long wait at Avis took 4 hours to get my car. Only 2 on staff who worked tirelessly and were really nice. I felt bad for them. This is not an isolated incident my colleague the day before took 2 hours and my colleagues several days later waited closer to 3 hours… Not sure what is going on, checked with the other providers during my wait and they were all sold out… So maybe I’m just lucky I was able to get a car. Good luck!

2022-05-11If you sort Google reviews for this location to the newest you will see how bad Avis is treating their customers at this location. I had to wait a total of 3 hours regardless of being an Avis preferred member. We were told cars are getting cleaned. This happened at least 4 times while 50+ people were waiting in lines. Once my car paperwork was done at the counter I was told to wait again as someone would call my name.I had to wait another hour on top of that. There were people behind me in the line who got their car before I did. Its not fair. Im going to let my work know to not book through Avis anymore as it is preferred car rental company. I had to miss a site inspection because of the delays in getting a rental car.Can someone please take a look at all the bad reviews and maybe care to investigate why people are treated this way?
