I don’t know how to feel about this place man. I love Birria tacos and technically that’s exactly what these are…but is it worth the hype? I kept getting recommended this spot over and over again and I finally went and tried it. It was FINE. The tacos were served quickly and looked gorgeous. The meat was tender and everything was cooked properly, no complaints there. But it was so BLAND. When I go to a legit Mexican restaurant I expect bombastic flavors and spice. This was just tender meat with zero seasoning or flavor other than the flavor of the meat itself. Even the consommé, while visually perfect, was utterly flavorless. Maybe it was an off day. I’ll give them another shot simply because everything was TECHNICALLY done correctly, it was just completely devoid of seasoning or flavor. Red sauce was super good though, I will give them that.
I tried them for the first time today and it was actually great. I had the #1 combo which included broth and two goat tacos. I also added a beef head taco in which all three were great. The tacos are even more delicious after you dip them in the broth In which I squeeze a few limes and also added cilantro/onions.I can’t wait to visit again.
Follow me on Instagram: @themellospoonI came in on a Tuesday and didn’t realize that they had a limited menu. All in all the food was pretty good. I ordered 4 goat,1 chicken, and 1 jackfruit quesataco and 1 consome. My only critiques were that I expected more flavor from the tacos and consome. They look soooo good but I couldn’t help but think something was missing flavor wise. But I will definitely be back to try other food items. The drinks here are delicious...If your a mango fan get the mango drink and thank me later. The hibiscus or sorrel is good too.
They are pretty good. We got a few of each. The tacos with beef in combo form so that came with chips salsa and that sauce. The sauce is really like juice and it’s basically like a Mexican pot roast juice. It’s not bad but I don’t reallly see why I would wanna pay $5 for just the juice. It did have some bits of meat but I guess it’s mainly for dipping. We had to add a lot of lime juice for it to make sense dipping the tacos and quesadillas. We also got the flat crunchy thing kinda like a torta. It was ok. Kinda cold. I’d say the tacos and quesadillas were the best. The tacos use that great queso fresco type cheese that comes in circles at the store. Over all it was good but it felt like it was missing something. Still five stars
Ill travel 20+ minutes to TRY a restaurant, but its hard for a restaurant to be good enough for me to go back, because usually there is someplace of comparable quality and taste near me since I live near downtown. But this is THE exception to that rule. Its a 30 minute drive that Ive happily made 3x in 2 months. These tacos 🌮 are so simple (just meat, onions, cilantro, and cheese) but done SO well 🤤! Weve tried the asada 🐄, goat 🐐, beef head 🐮, and lingua 👅 quesatacos and you cant go wrong with any of them. Ive tried the chicken 🐓 too, and its good, I just prefer the red meat options, 😉 with extra onion. You can order guac, but no pico de gallo or sour cream available. They also come with salsa verde and pepper sauce, and its all you need. Ive tried the consumé during my first visit and passed on it for my next couple. This place is VERY popular, so be ready for a 20+ minute wait just to order ⌚, and another 20+ minute wait for your order to be ready (my order is usually 10+ tacos, so it may be shorter for smaller orders) if you go after work on Taco Tuesday or a weekend. The mango 🥭 fresco and horchata 🥛 are also good, order one to sip on while you wait for your food. Check out their Instagram account for monthly, off-menu items 🤫 like sandwiches and nachos. I generally get my food to go. I will admit that the table tops usually need some attention ⚠️ But Im happy to go home to stuff my face. Quesatacos are 2.75 each, and my crew gets full off of 3 tacos each 🌮🌮🌮, and were being gluttonous if we eat more ☺️. The tacos travel well (still warm when I get home) and leftovers reheat well.
Hands down best Quesatacos in town. My husband had the goat meat and I enjoyed the beef. We shared the consome noodles and they were to die for! We also got a drink called aqua loca, it reminded of back home in Miami the favors are tropical, sweet savory and sour. My husband and I recommend this place the setting was nice as well Latin music 🎶the decor was sleek with pops of color. I love the diversity of people that enjoyed great food. Customer service was awesome! Food was Hot and fresh. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❤
Delicious!!! I love the (Birria=BBQ) food but I really really really love the salsa bar with salsas salads fresh pickled veggies pico fresh limes and freshly chopped cilantro.I am vegan and it was very easy to order the jackfruit birria. Their vegan cheese is perfect and melts because.
Amazing! The tacos are maybe the best Ive ever had. Be sure to try the beef tamale as well- super flavorful, just sweet enough. My friend got the michelada and loved it, really well balanced cocktail. Make sure you get the consome to dip your tacos in. Seriously amazing. Counter service, they give you a buzzer to notify you when ready. Took maybe 10 minutes to recieve our order and the place was pretty busy. Everyone was in masks and the tables were well spaced out. Also, they were hosting a Warnock Osoff rally which was fantastic. Will be back soon!
This place is very overhyped. I tried this place the first time and thought they were just having a bad day. Then yesterday I tried it again. No change. I got 4 chicken birria taco with consume, rice & beans, and churros. The taco itself it’s awful but the chicken is not seasoned correctly or moist. It just isn’t good. They put shredded chicken in the consume and while it looks tasty, it just orange water. I like my consume to be thicker and have more of stew consistency. This is all orange water with onions and cilantro inside it. Yuck. Also there is no natural kick to this taco either. Tacos were definitely 3/10. Their salsa cart has really good options. I like their green and hottest sauce flavors. Rice & beans were okay, but again the seasoning was just off.I’m only going to this business because Taco La Villa in Smyrna was closed temporarily due to a fire. Their birria tacos are AMAZING. Chicken is well seasoned and their consume is seasoned to perfection. 10/10 recommend going there over this place. Churros were okay here but still missed the mark for me. Caramel that came with them was awful. Sadly, I won’t be returning anyways because the prices are way high for the quality of food you receive 👎🏾
Covid Safety Rating 👍 -Does not affect star rating.Been going to this place since May, and the food never disappoints. I finally had the Ramen today.........bruh! They need to add it to the menu permanently. Plan your day when you go. The line is long but it well worth the wait. Staff is friendly and the place is very clean. Well worth the wait and visit.
100% authentic Mexican birria. I was NOT disappointed at all. Its a hike to get out there, living in Atlanta, but worth it. Anything on the menu is phenomenal. Their drinks are also really good. I usually get Horchata AND Jamaica just so that I can have them in my fridge for a couple days until the next time I go. The consomé is out of this world! Even the chips are amazing. Would recommend to anyone.
Service was great. Employees were great. Bathrooms were very clean and the food was freaking amazing. They have options for ppl that don’t eat red meat and vegans too! Can’t wait to go back!EDIT: The bathrooms aren’t as clean as they used to be when I originally made this comment... The food is still very good here, but the quality seems as if it’s declining... and every time I go back, the size of the chips you get with a combo goes down more & more lol. & there’s this older woman that works in the front that is VERY rude. She rolls her eyes at customers and catches attitudes when SHE messes up your order. Her attitude may have been what threw me off and made the food less desirable that last time I went (which was on 4/10/22). She needs to check her attitude before she gets CHECKED by the RIGHT customer!
1st time having Birria and they were good. I drove about 45mins to this location. I choose the #1 combo which came with 2 quesotacos and their dipping soup. I added 2 more tacos so I could try both beef & chicken. The chicken tacos were more flavorful then the beef. It may had lacked a pinch of salt. The dipping soup definitely helped and I doubt I would eat birria without it.The drink I choose was their Horchata... It seemed like it was made from powder. Next time Ill try the mango.I will definitely be back in the future!Picture: Jackfruit tacos with dipping (top) Chicken/ Beef with dipping (bottom)
Los mejores tacos en toda georgia I have been in Atlanta for over 10 months and out of the 10+ places i went to NONE come close to the service and quality you get here. You get your moneys worth here. I had the Birria de res quesatacos and they were cheesy and had a good amount of meat which was also juicy. I definitely recommend.
I seen this place on TikTok so I came to see what the hype was about. I got the beef Birria and a side of rice. The rice wasn’t my favorite and we tried their frozen margaritas which tasted a little salty, I wish they would’ve put that salt in the birria. Other than that the beef was juicy and I liked their salsa bar. Very clean restaurant
Mediocre at best. I am being brutally honest, the food looked like it was well seasoned in the pictures. I could have not been more wrong. I really wanted to like it, but the flavors are extremely bland for the birria. The sauce tasted like nothing but oil, absolutely no seasoning! I read other reviews that stated that same thing but thought my experience would be different, guess not. Do yourself a favor and try elsewhere. Gave 2 stars because the staff was friendly and accommodating with helping me understand the menu.
They no longer have the limited menu on Tuesdays so you can get anything. The had birria tacos in goat, beef, and chicken. I couldnt tell the goat apart from the beef but they were still good. The broth was really good. This is my first time having birria so I dont have any others to compare this place to.Seating is spaced nicely for COVID. I didnt see any hand sanitizer by the Sauce Bar which I wish they had. Since multiple hands are touching the handles.Overall, I would come back
Birria El Gordo was really good. I had previously tried the quesabirria tacos from El Indio but I thought they were actually sort of bad. Somehow it didnt taste like how I imagined it to taste lol. The consomme was drinkable here and had chunks of meat at the bottom. I had 1 beef and 1 goat taco but definitely preferred the goat taco. The chips were surprisingly tasty as were the wide selection of sauces available in the dining area (sorta like Moes). All in all great food and service was friendly, I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to try some tasty quesabirria tacos.
Birria has no flavor :,( consomé is straight flavorless grease. Margaritas are SALTY and can’t taste the alcohol. Wanted to like it so bad but idk what the hype is about… forgot to give us the churros ordered. Presentation is there but flavor is not. The mango water is great though. Girls at the counter weren’t welcoming, placing an order felt like you’re inconveniencing them.
I absolutely loveeeee Birria Tacos! I’ve been coming here for a while now, but I’ve been a little disappointed the last few times. First off, there used to be way more meat in the tacos. I’ve noticed the portions getting smaller and smaller. Secondly, I had the beef tacos & they were extremely, extremely fatty. I don’t think I’ll be returning here anytime soon 😞
So good, first time trying them. Came all the way from MD to visit and my brother in law put me on. Will try and make it here every time we come back and visit. Only thi ng they could tweak was the sweet michelada. Where they do that at?? It should be more on the savory side instead they used the sweet chamoy. Overall great place and atmosphere. Would recommend and definitely coming back.
This is one of those occasions when the hype is not met. On my first visit, they were closed. Todays visit was subpar from the customer service to the food. The cashier was very nonchalant in assisting with my order. The food was average. The only redeeming factor was the green sauce (looks like avocado sauce) on the salsa bar. I can eat that on quite a few things. I probably will not come back to patron this restaurant unless they have that green sauce for sale.
We went to dine in on Tuesday around 2pm. The place was clean. We walked in and were a little confused on where to order because the cashiers do not greet their clients or anything. We waited in line and ordered the combo 1 and combo 2 got our drinks and sat down to wait for our food to come out.Okay this is were I have the problem their tacos had no flavor, my horchata tasted like powdered horchata it looked like fresh horchata which is why I ordered it and the salsas!!!! Omg how can you go wrong with salsa??? They had absolutely no flavor. The consome however was delicious!!!!Im going to give this place another go hoping the flavor is there next time.
I went on a Saturday around 2:30 the wait was not bad at all and it did not take long for me to receive my food. I had the Vegan tacos which was not bad at all but that dipping soup was horrible. I purchased 4 tacos and a lrg drink which came to $24.00. A bit pricey and overrated. I also did not like the fact the lady behind the drinking station did not use any glove or anything while she was putting fruit into my drink with her bare hands.
This place was good but it wasn’t much meat in my tacos. And the lady rung my order up wrong so I was charged $5 for the broth to dip tacos in. She couldn’t remember what I had ordered within ten mins. So I paid $15 and I’m still hungry. I don’t think I’ll be returning.
Food was unseasoned, and lacked any to no flavor. Spent $70 to only be met with a rude girl with orange hair and a huge attitude. She couldnt even be bothered to wear her mask properly, let alone give great service. And lets face it, we know we are in a pandemic but to stand at the counter and roll your eyes and look miserable and be rude, you need to be working in the back where no one can bother you and you cant bother others. Needless to say will never go back. They plated my food for seating when I told the other unattentive teen that the food was to go. Got that corrected and the orange hair girl had the worse attitude towards my husband who wanted a cup with a lid for our drinks that were made as an after thought after our food was thrown to us. Had to go back for a large consome that was left out of order only to be greeted by orange hair girl and her attitude. She wanted me to wait in line for the consome they forgot to pack and I literally dared her to make me get in line. Just an overall bad experience for food that was not good at all. Again no flavor, no seasoning, no customer service. The condiment station is gross, multiple hands and breathing all over the limes and salsas. I wish I could uneat that nastiness.
Super over hyped. We placed a huge order (Over $100) of tacos, quesadillas, consome; pretty much a little of everything from their menu and we were very disappointed with the food. It didn’t have the authentic taste of birria tacos. The consome is wayyyy too over priced for the little amount of consome you actually get. And it doesn’t come like the real ones, theirs is very plain. For the amount of tacos we ordered we expected to get a decent amount of salsas and we didn’t.Not at all what we expected and definitely wasn’t worth the hype. If the owners read this, try to add a little more spices to the sauce and don’t be stingy with the salsas for tacos when they are placed to go.
This place is the real deal. There are many places to eat tacos, but if you like Birria Tacos with Consome, Tacos Dorados, from a variety of different meats then you’ll love this place. They serve until they run out, so don’t go too late or you might miss out. They do serve alcohol, but it appears they only have frozen margaritas during less busy times.
The service was nice, but the tacos and quesadillas were terrible. Everything was dripping with grease and near flavorless. I didnt taste any seasoning on the vegetables or even the shredded meats. Only grease. The price is not worth the quality and I highly suggest looking elsewhere.
If standing in a long lines to eat expensive tacos on dirty tables is your thing, this is the spot for you! Upon arriving you’ll notice how hot the place is and how they don’t even have a menu. Then you get to stand in line for 30-45 minutes, these were the most expensive tacos I’ve ever purchased. Now you get to set at a dirty table that hadn’t been washed all day from the looks. Extremely overrated and overpriced for just tacos. The food itself was good, it took close to an hour from the time we walked in to the time we got our food. We were late getting back to work because of the long delay. Place seems very unprepared to handle busy times and needs to hire some people to clean the tables and bathrooms.
Pricey tacos but worth the treat. This reminded me of getting tacos from a food truck in Cali. The Carne Asada is best. Shredded beef is good too but the chicken has been bland for the past 3 visits. PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE WAIT - both order and pick up will be 20 minutes each, 40 total... Grab yourself a mango juice to chill and wait. If youre theimpatient type, this aint for you!
I drove from Douglasville to come dine here, waited in line 40 minutes to order food, they have no menu you have to try and find theirs online. Sat down at a filthy table with mariachi band playing in my ear so loud that you have to yell to talk to the person sitting next to you. We waited another 40 minutes and never got our food, I asked about our food and the girl behind the counter was clueless, after wasting over an hour I demanded a refund and we left. I’ll never come to this filthy, unorganized, and over extremely overpriced dump again. It was $35 for 6 tacos and two drink no other food included. For that price I can get a nice sit down meal at a good Mexican restaurant. Three words can sum this place up FILTHY, OVERPRICED, UNORGANIZED
A bit pricey. The food taste authentic and is good but expect a long wait. I couldnt tell the difference in the meats, flavor wise.. They have seasonal items that are sold on certain days. There should be some kind of railing/tape because if you walk in on a Saturday you wont know whos waiting to order and whos waiting to pick up their food.
Birria El Gordo tucked away in the town of Marietta was my second attempt at Birria Tacos and overall I was satisfied. I ordered the beef quesatacos with the sopa, the meat was well cooked and well flavored, the tacos could have used a little bit more cheese but other than that I wouldnt change a thing. The tacos were seemingly fried which was a little different from what I expected. I will be back so that I can try more of there meats and tacos.
Very good Tex-Mex with reasonable prices. Order and pick-up at the counter, no table service. The guacamole is the real deal, as are the sauces, and the red one brings the heat! The line at Saturday lunch was a bit long, perhaps because of a recent favorable review in the Marietta newspaper. Do try it!
This is what I imagine tacos in Cali taste like.My god, the flavors of the birria tacos are insane. Everything is cooked to perfection. I got 2 goat (chivo) birria tacos with the large consome....my god, the flavors will blow you away. I saved my consome and Im gonna put it in fresh ramen....its THAT good!I tried the Vampiros too....delicious. and their horchata almost tastes like the salvadorian style. So good. You would expect these flavors to be down town or like I said before, Cali! Cant wait to go back.
The food was great! However, the wait? Not so much. I visited to partake in the latest food craze, Barria Tacos but made sure to sample other things. The Tostada was good, the Vampiro was better, the Quesaros tacos were excellent. I also ordered an extra side of consommé which was delicious. The combos come with some, but I ordered more since to make sure in had enough. This was a wise decision. If you are thirsty, order a aqua fresca, I particularly fancied the mango flavor. It was delicious to say the least.I recommend eating this in your car, I know, I know. But hear me out, if you take them home you risk the food getting soggy. I learned this lesson with my leftovers. You still get the flavor, but you miss out on the crunch. If you have the time, do yourself a favor and try this place out, you wont be disappointed. If Im ever in the area again, and the line isnt too long you just might see me there.Sorry, no photos. It was a car situation, so I didnt take any. Next time though, next time.
OMG GUYS YOU WONT BELIEVE WHY I RATE THIS A 5 STAR. SO me and my dad were eating sum bussin respectfully Birria tacos. So when he took his first bite, he like usual being stubborn and took a huge bite out of his taco and had a massive seizure. recommended for sure going back tomorrow!!!
I rarely rate five stars... But I must say the food is amazing.. taste in every order has to be on point.. who ever preps these tacos they must have solid conditioning in their cooking. Meaning by the time I got my food t hours later I expected a decrease in taste sure to tiredness or just laziness.. But this was not the case. The drinks were amazing, and the atmospheres is Great. I will say this.... I want this place to note the type of people supporting their food. Look at your lines and note who mainly supports your organization.. 90 percent the african american community, I have been watching this place for a couple days and statistically 90 percent of african americans supported this place. All around keep your heads clean guys keep your business professional and keep your relationship with the community good. The small percentage of family who comes eats free Ive asked boyfriends of gf who works there how they eat.. The answers free.. the small percentage of White Americans that go here are visitors and again this business is doing amazingly.. touch up on the line process and get the inside line situated so people are not all over the place. Thank you guys for a great experience and REMEMBER you never know who comes through your doors.. 5 stars deserved...
I went early to avoid the long lines. Made it back home and my tacos were nice and hot. I wanted these tacos for a while since I tried them in Cali. This here is no where near like what I had. A little disappointed/ not sure what the hype is about. I wouldn’t go back. They were just ok.
When I went it was packed .. the wait wasn’t long … they don’t have visible menus for ppl to see waiting on line. so when I got up in line and I looked at the menu that’s on the counter the cashier was acting impatient… and didn’t really want to explain the items to me . And when I picked up my food , the lady wasn’t so nice ( all I asked for was a straw and napkins) you’d think they’d give you that anyways if you get a drink and food lol . The food was okay . Probably won’t go back just based on the attitudes
Line is always long BUT WORTH EVERY SECOND SPENT WAITING!!! Be sure to check out their IG for latest updates, just in case you are making a long trip and they are sold out before you get there. Every bite of their tacos, you MUST dip into their consomé!!! It will become your next food-addiction! Lots of great drinks, non-alcoholic and alcoholic. If you are looking for a taco scene, this is it stop reading this and get in your car and go now!
I personally didn’t like the tacos. They were overly salty and didn’t look like the Instagram pictures. I waited for 40 minutes for my order of 6 tacos, two soups, and a birria ramen. I’m glad I arrived when I did because the line started to grow and people were waiting in line for 40+ minutes.
Worst customer service ever. Every there acted like they were made to be there. My order was input incorrectly where I didn’t get the dipping soup with my Birria tacos or the two drinks that I ordered. And when I had to drive all the way back up there to ask for it they told me I’d need to wait in line to reorder the dipping soup. Never coming back.

2022-05-06Definitely overrated. I mean if you don’t like seasoning on your food you would love it. But I’m a foodie & I believe food should be seasoned well to get the taste you’re looking for. It looks delicious but it doesn’t taste how it looks. Also anytime drinks aren’t good at a restaurant then you should know the food is not good. The drinks were horrible. How do U mess up a simple margarita it tasted like it had seasoning in it. Should of used that seasoning for the food. I hate to leave a bad review but my expectations were to high😩

2022-05-03After the first visit, this place immediately became my go-to for Mexican food. You can’t do better than authentic! My favorite is the shrimp tacos & now they offer cheese dip. I also love that they have jackfruit tacos and veggie Birria. You can’t go wrong! The quesadilla is top notch as well the the drinks/juices. Next, I’ll be trying their dessert. I can’t wait for the patio to be complete! Omg I forgot to mention the rice and beans! I mean there is literally no bad item on the menu!

2022-01-281st time trying Birria tacos, and it absolutely met my expectations! The tacos were perfectly cooked and had that crunchy chewy texture goodness. And even though the tacos look and feel hella greasy.. to my surprise they werent heavy at all! Lastly the consum dip broth, I was blown away with the consistency and flavor, really took the dish over the top for me. I think this dish puts Mexican Food back on the map for me personally!!! 🤤 The only downside is the price.. which came to around $20 and change for 4 Birria tacos, chips, and consum broth + a Coke. Luckily, I wasnt able to eat all 4, so I have takeout in the morning.. I believe the combo with 2 tacos and dip was $11 (drink not included).

2022-03-30You don’t have to look any further, Birria El Gordo has what you need. I would suggest eating your food there so you can get the full experience of having your food fresh! I love the stand where you can get hot peppers & sauces for your tacos. Also make sure to get your Margarita with the rim (they will know what you mean). Don’t forget your order of churros either. I almost forgot the secret menu item that changes monthly. You won’t be disappointed!

2021-09-08Heard about this place and finally got over there this afternoon. Certainly not disappointed. Great shredded beef tacos but the consume was excellent. Rich flavors. I bought a small one. Wish I had gotten a larger one because I had to share with my husband. Definitely will be back.

2021-07-19Ive been wanting to try authentic birria tacos for quite some time and finally decided to get over to Birria El Gordo this past weekend. After seeing great reviews online we went over on a Saturday around 4PM.The restaurant is self-served. Meaning you come in, order at the counter and they give you a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready and you pickup from a separate pickup counter. When we arrived, it was quite busy and there were 2 lines open and they were moving pretty steadily. We asked the cashier about the birria tacos and ended up ordering a few chicken & beef tacos (7 tacos total) - our total was $21.51. Unfortunately the cashier didnt mention that you have to order the consome separately and even though we asked her about it, she didnt think to mention that. After we received our food we had to go back and order it for an additional $5.There was a 30+ minute wait. The buzzer went off after 15 minutes and supposedly thats just to get your drinks (wasnt explained to us beforehand) so we got those and waited another 15 minutes. By then we were wondering why it was taking such a while and ended up going to the pickup counter and our food was just sitting there but the buzzer had never gone off a second time. We still had to go back (as previously mentioned) to get the consome but luckily she grabbed one quickly for us.Most importantly, after waiting 30+ minutes, the TACOS WERE MEDIOCRE at best! As tacos go, they were fine. But considering they hype for birria tacos we left wanting so much more. The birria de pollo was oily and had NO FLAVOR! I dipped the tacos and couldnt taste a difference from the taco with nothing on it. The most basic of a flavor profile, with barely any salt added or seasonings. This was such a disappointing experience. Ill definitely try another location for birria but I would NEVER come here again.
