I ordered the meatloaf with 3 sides through Augusta to goand my mealoaf was undercooked. It was still red in the mid and had big chunks of light bread mixed with it, there also was a lot of grease. I called the restaurant to explain the situation and that i would like my money back and the lady on the line was very rude and unprofessional. She didnt apologize about the food being undercooked at all.she basically told me to call augusta to go to get my money back.
1ST time eating here, it was ok overall. I placed a phone order, she didnt repeat the order or take my name. I was concerned that I wouldnt be right because of their background noise, but it was right. I ordered oxtails, collards, mac n cheese and yams. The oxtails were great, nice taste & tender, cooked my own rice. Wasnt aware that it didnt come with it. The greens are cooked with sugar, dont like that. The yams were good too. Didnt like the mac n cheese at all,bad texture & cheese.

This is by far the worst restaurant I ever encountered. Friendly customer service but the environment and food is absolutely horrible I do not recommend anyone to eat here. Chicken is tasteless, salty and or chewy. I order a hamburger with no cheese i still get cheese on it. Then the burger either be too dry or still raw in the middle. Employees and management arguing back and forth in front of guest about cleanliness of the restaurant I overheard about pipes having black mold on it. The manager picking up food off the floor and still selling it. Dishwasher cross Contaminating cups and plates. And the smell in this place in unbareable!
I just ate there and want to let everyone know that Calvins is indeed open for business and just as good as ever. It is some of the most delicious foods I have ever eaten. In the past, Calvin had a restaurant called Hot Foods by Calvin. I ate there while visiting Augusta and fell in love with the delicious southern cooked meals. Recently, I came back and found Calvin at his restaurant, Calvins Roasted Fish And Salads. As good as I remember.
Yuck is to nice a word. Had their food catered for a Christmas party. Complaints after complaints. Dressing overcooked to where its inedible. AND SALTY! Everything was overloaded with salt! Gravy was melted salt. Mac-n-cheese had more salt then pasta. The corn biscuits were brown & black. In other words burned. So was the lime cake. Dried out with the bottom layer brown & black. The one and only one positive were the yams. Thank goodness they couldnt find the salt shaker for that one.
I ordered the Roasted Fish (roasted onions, bell peppers etc) and Salad. The fish was cooked to perfection, the salad bright and fresh. I also order the seasoned potatoes for another side. Delish!!! Hats off to Mr. Calvin.
I felt as if we walked into families home. The young lady that took our order made us feel like she truly cared. The man that cooked this evening made sure our order was hot and good. The place was clean and the ppl are very respectful. Dont let the area distract you from going in and trying this restaurant especially if you are not ftom the area. I had fried chicken, Mac & cheese, cabbage, corn bread and potatoe salad, This is real southern homade chicken. This chicken had that crunch and brust of juice you like to get like Big mama cooking at the house. it runs rings around Marylands sorry, but its true. I enjoyef everything but the potstoe salad it had good flavor. it would of been the best potatoe salad, but potatoes was under cook. That was very disapointing because I could tell from the taste his salad had been season and mix well. Tea was good corn bread goooood. My husband meat loaf blackeyes peas & rice, Mac & cheese , cabbage dinner was outstanding, my bringsrs fried brim dinner great her colid greens really good I taste hers She like the potatoes salad but potatoes need cooking more. We all got cake, key lime and chocolate cake, but we are so full we can not eat another bite. Thanks to Calvins for serving up food thats makes you feel like they got their money worth . this food puts a smile on the face and bring joy to your belly. Good dinner night!! 4 stars because they where out of sweet potatoe after I put my order in and mouth was ready for it and potatoes salad error. But I will go back againe. Simple adjustments needed. Overall great food and service.
Question...? How is the main part of the dish horrible! I ordered oxtails, and got yesterday’s old and scorched meat... the collard greens tasted like sugar straight out the cane field and the rice was spoiled like it sat for hours.... Never will I ever go back or recommend any parts of the menu to anyone!!!!!!
Food is Devine! The cabbage corn bread and fried chicken was awesome! We had fried chicken beef tips and oxtails with probably every side! everything was good! I don’t eat yams but his are good! Please please try the potatoes!!!! Yum!
So while I was at the VA today, one of the vets was walking around and handing out Menus for this place. After my appointment I decided to give them a try. The owner was there and came out to talk to us and was very friendly. The rest of the staff was pleasant and I received my meal and I was on my way. I ordered the fish and shrimp dinner plate. I received two fried talipa fillets and about 10 fried shrimp. The food was pretty good. I was surprised by the talipa as I was expecting catfish. While the food was tasty it was a little bland. I think adding a little something to the batter before frying everything would of gone a long way. Also there was no dipping sauce for the shrimp or fish. That would of helped. The prices were a little steep for what I would consider a greasy spoon type restaurant. I gave 4 stars for the customer service and the owner comming out to chat with us.
OMG... Friendly cooks and waitresses for the most part. Its clean!! Its yummy! I mean its really actually really good soul food. Very hearty and just delicious. Definitely recommend.

I hadn’t been to this new location for this restaurant. I had Calvin’s food before when his restaurant was in a hotel on the other end of Broad Street. The food was pretty good then and it’s pretty good now!!!My cousin had dined here recently and raved about everything, so I had to come by and check out the new location. I didn’t know what to expect since it had been so long since I had any of Calvin’s food.From the time I entered the restaurant to the time I departed I felt appreciated as a customer and most importantly a human being!!!! You can’t get no better than that with what’s all going on in the world today!!The food menu is pretty extensive here. He has things like chicken, oxtails, meatloaf, liver and onions, Salisbury steak, and so much more. It was so hard to choose what I wanted to eat. It was so many things I wanted to taste.I ordered sweet tea first, and I must say if you don’t like your tea super sweet you wouldn’t like his!!! I call it diabetic tea and I loved every bit of it!!!Calvin himself comes out and waits on each customer. I thought that was such a personal touch. That shows that he really stands behind everything that he puts his name on!!!I chose to order my favorite, Salisbury steak with rice and gravy, black-eyed peas, and cabbage. Everything thing was delicious!!! My mother ordered her favorite, liver and onions, rice and gravy, black-eyed peas, and cabbage. She loved everything on her plate as well.It took a little time for my mother’s food to come out, so to appease us Calvin brought us out two fried chicken wings. That was some pretty good fried chicken!!!! That’s exactly what I’m going to order when I dine here the next time. It had the right amount of flavor and was fried to perfection!!! That chicken made my mother forget she was waiting for her food.It didn’t take too long after we ate the chicken that her food arrived. Everything was on point, I can see why he has had so much success in the food industry for so long!! He make sure that his customers are happy at all costs!!!My mother couldn’t finish her food and he offered her more food, which he gave her. He said he didn’t want her to go home hungry and had spent good money!!! Where else would a restaurant owner do this?!? Most likely NOWHERE!!!Calvin’s customer service is off the scale and his food is just as good!!! I’m adding this place to my go to places to eat!!! I have so many things to try on his menu!!! You don’t come by too many places like this anymore!!!
Delicious food at decent prices. Go there for comfort food. I have never eaten something I didn’t like. I find their cabbage so delicious, with a perfect balance ... not too crisp, not too soft. The ambience is not what it once was. That’s the only reason it’s not a 5.
This place was dangerous to my midsection.. The food was so good until I literally had to tear my way from the table.

We ordered 5 dinners, he was the only one working so it took a while to get everything and some things were cold. The special of the day was oxtails but he said he was out because he hadnt gone shopping. I had come over 30 miles so I was really disappointed.
Seafood... so fresh. Came in on a Thurs. The service was very friendly and attentive. The place has a good feel to it. Food is like a place in Baltimore I liked.
First experience and definitely will not be my last , the food was phenomenal and my service was just a phenomenal as my meal, My waitress Angela was terrific and friendly, she showed tremendous interpersonal skills.

Food is pretty good, with a variety from baked turkey wings, ox-tails, fried chicken etc. They use no pork in seasoning their vegetables, thats a plus for me😊

2019-06-20We ordered delivery through the Augusta delivery app. It took them a little under an hour to deliver the food. We ordered ox tails, a bowl of shrimp low country boil, and jerk chicken plates. Overall the food was fairly substandard and the rice was hard and unevenly cooked. The shrimp gumbo could be ordered from a more local place like Juicy Crab for less. And the jerk chicken had an ok flavor, but everything else that came with it suffered or just wasnt that great. Would probably not go out of our way to order here again.

2019-03-07This was amazing soul food, southern cooking! It is a small place...older building but extremely clean. You can even see thru glass to see the food cooking and the kitchen where it is prepared. Staff and Calvin were so warm and friendly. Prices are soooo reasonable for the amount of food you get. It was a place I would frequent if I lived here. Thank you Calvin and Josita. Best meatloaf I ever had.

2021-04-07My family felt LOVED with the delicious home cooked meal we were served. The fried fish was the best that I can remember. We’re still talking about the crunchy coating and the tender fish! Yum!! My 2 year old granddaughter actually cried for more Mac and cheese which Calvin graciously provided for her. My 8 year old granddaughter loved her meatloaf dinner and never spoke a word until it was GONE!! My husband had oxtails which he cleaned like a surgeon! We give Calvin’s 8 thumbs up!!!

2021-06-07Thank God I Didn’t Go By The Reviews! I’m from Baltimore .. Just Move From 7 Years In Atlanta To Augusta. So when you talking about good food I’m a expert at that! This is One of the best restaurants I had in my 37 years of life. I don’t eat out much because I can cook myself but When I do here inn Augusta I order from here 4x everything been good. Had my order wrong 1 time they hand delivered it there self. Pease try here you are won’t be disappointed

2021-06-30My husband and I believe in supporting local businesses, and he was looking forward to eating here. The potatoes in the potato salad were not cooked fully, the greens and cabbage were cold and full of sugar, on the plus side the ox tails were edible, the liver was ok but could tell it was old, the AC must’ve been broken, no toilet tissue in the restroom, the toilet didn’t flush. I wish them much success but a lot of things will have to change for longevity

2021-01-31I didnt eat here. Im with postmates and I had a pickup order. Instructions were check in when you arrive and the owner would bring the food out when ready. When I got there the check in screen came up and again it told me to wait and the owner would bring it out when ready. I waited and waited and waited, actually lost track of time. Then my customer contacted me said whats going on? It had been over a half hour. So I called and she said come in its ready. So I went in and she said why didnt you check in? I said I did and a kid behind the counter said oh thats why the phone kept ringing. So Im sure the food is good but plenty of places have good food. If you dont know how to operate a business you will not be successful.

2020-10-03Had the pleasure of trying this restaurant through Doordash, and I was very, very pleased. I had the Meatloaf and it was delicious along with the fried wings, which were fresh, and hot. The cabbage is amazing as well. I had to call them after my meal to show my appreciation.

2021-03-18The food is really very good, I am in New York state and order food delivered to him. The only issue I have is that when he got his food today for the second time in a row there was NO drink and I specifically ordered him one. This happened in the past as well.

2019-08-20The restaurant is very clean and cozy. I was able to meet Calvin himself who waited on me personally. The food was really good the collard greens even though I ate them could have been better they almost tasted like glory greens everything else perfect I actually had the sawlsberry steak and gravy with rice fried green tomatoes And I also had a side of okra in tomato.
