China Star in other cities:
New to the area! I can not say enough good things about the food and the service. Fast, fresh, super attentive. The dining room is small but inviting, and the heavenly aroma of garlic and onions is euphoric. My boyfriend told me all the way here how good it was and I was excited. Good Chinese is rare in these parts. I ordered my food with full intentions of taking pictures to attach to my review but from the first bite of hot and sour soup I never put my fork down! The egg rolls were hot and delicious (close to the best I’ve ever had) and the Garlic Chicken made me happy dance when I took a bite. On top of this incredible food our service was impeccable. We were not over waited on during our meal, but check on frequently, and ended with paying our check and friendly conversation! If this is a constant, they will definitely know me by name!
The woman (server/manager) did not wear a mask during my entire visit. I ordered a lunch special, Mongolian Beef, with hot and sour soup. The soup (which I was charged $0.80) was so salty it was inedible so she brought won ton instead. The won ton was so bland it was also inedible. The beef was too sweet, but overall okay. As for my fortune, I may have been kind and given 4 stars, but it appears she lies about the level of MSG in the food.
Review Edit:After Sofia sold her business China Star has gone to the dogs. The whole menu changed and for the worst! My mother and I came in a few months ago and this large lady came out from the back and unfriendly grumbled at us that the menu had changed. She was not friendly in the least. I had never seen her before in the vicinity and she had zero customer service. My mother and I just looked at each other and walked out. Wanting to give them a chance I ordered their food on Doordash several weeks later.... and to say the least I was severely disappointed. Their bubble tea is trash and youre better off going to Tea Time off of Towne Lake (thats real tea). Their tea is obviously made from powder, and their tapioca bubbles are low quality and hard. It was such a let down especially since China Star used to be the best Chinese restaurant in Canton, GA. It used to also be a great comfort to us, but now it is just a facade of what it used to be and has basically stolen the identity of the amazing restaurant that China Star used to be. After Sofia left the quality of the food drastically changed despite the food menu being the same and still having the same cook (my guess was a change in the quality of food used to prepare the meals to cut costs), but at least it was still good, but now with this drastic overhaul and failure of a menu change its not worth anyones time nor money. Not to mention the lack of good customer service provided by the staff. That lady was so off-putting we practically sped-walked out of the EMPTY establishment (mind you this was during lunch time and the other restaurants nearby were packed). This is truly devastating and why people should never mess with a good thing.-----------------------Here is my old review which I assure you is NO LONGER true for the new owners.... RIP China Star you are surely missed 😭😭😭😭-----------------------China Star is the best. Sofia the owner is so nice to me and my husband, and their food os delicious. We recomend the curry chicken and mongolian beef. Their food is fresh and always hot. They are also reasonably priced!
Got a to-go order here because my normal Chinese restaurant was closed. I got orange chicken and fried rice and an egg roll. The orange chicken was disgusting and dry it almost tasted old and like it had been reheated. The fried rice was so dry and tasted like it has been sitting on the counter for hours because it was cold. The egg roll was brown and hard (they arent usually hard). 10/10 dont recommend.
I was told that they recently got new owners ( not sure if that’s true or not) but I got the pork low mein & steamed dumplings & the pork in the low mein was 100000 times better today than it has been in a while. My dumplings are amazing as always but I do suggest maybe switching to a different soy sauce container because I can always count on one to be spilled out all on the dumplings ( still pretty good but I want to have a choice of how much soy sauce 😂)
I dont know what happened to the old owners, but this place is not China Star. The staff overall were dismissive and knew nothing about the menu. I know that things can get busy, but its rude to keep people waiting and then engage with them like you are inconveniencing them. Is there a uniform or something? It is strange to see people come in working on their stained street clothes or without aprons. Honestly, I would rather drive to Buford Highway if I ever want Asian food.
Miss the old owners. The new manager lady was extremely rude to her staff AND customers! The entire time I was inside she was berating the young waitress to hurry and made me very uncomfortable with how she was treating the young girl. I will be surprised if any of the staff stays to put up with her attitude. Very snarky, entitled and doesnt know how to treat others with respect. Word of advice to the new owner, You will not keep customers or staff for very long with this manager. You lost a customer with me.
I’ve tried about 8 dishes and everything is phenomenal! Best Asian cuisine I’ve had in the Atlanta area! I think you could order anything on the menu and enjoy it. The pad Thai is amazing!Plus, the restaurant is owned and operated by the most charming family. They’re always so friendly and fun and they all work so hard together to give each customer the best experience. It’s disheartening to read the reviews complaining about no one wearing masks. There is no law in GA requiring the wear of masks. If you don’t want to dine in, get your food to go and leave! And...don’t impose your mandatory mask wear on me either! :)
OMG!! This is definite my favorite restaurant in Canton hands down. Their food is top notch. Whenever we go out to eat my husband does not even have to ask me if I want China Star. It is automatic that is my vote. A mask? Please. Just take the food to go. We talk about helping small businesses. Here you go. This family owned business is neat and clean. This family is professional, friendly, caring. They even adopted the highway to keep it clean. No,I am not family just a huge fan of this restaurant. I love good customer service and they have it.
The food is so good and fresh. I have celiac and can’t have wheat so no soy sauce. I am visiting family and they wanted Chinese food. I called and asked what I could have. The person I spoke to was very nice and helpful. I decided to get steamed broccoli and chicken with white sauce. It was the best Chinese food I’ve had in awhile! So yummy and fresh. I’m visiting but am already planning another day to order out from here. Delicious!
We have enjoyed this restaurant many times. Its usually pretty empty because they do a ton of delivery/take out. We were shocked to see so many seated today but what was horrifying was not a single mask on an employee and service was nonexistent. We tried to get someones attention numerous times for long periods just to get refills and check, and there was 5 small pieces of meat in the entire dish my husband had. The regular staff was not there so we arent sure if it changed hands but the complete refusal to follow state requirements of servers wearing masks is unacceptable.
I worked in food service for several years so I don’t like to complain when I have a bad experience. However, whoever is in charge of this business needs to know about the awful experience I just had. I was buying food for my boyfriend while on my lunch break, so I ordered take out. His favorite dish is Beijing Beef. I asked what was in the Beijing combo, I was told “chicken and beef”, so I ordered that. I ran it home to my boyfriend and went back to work. My boyfriend tells me that there is no beef and there is seafood in it, which he doesn’t like. I call the store and explain what happened, they tell me that I have to bring them the plate to have it remade. (I didn’t want it remade, I wanted a refund.) So, instead of offering me a refund, they offered a “credit” and hung up on me. I called back, and they told me that I had to return my food to get a refund. I reiterate: the food I’m talking about was given to my boyfriend, I did not have it and he did not like it (and I was at work) . So, rather than have my money refunded, I was told that they would do nothing to retain my business. I regret spending my money here, and I will make sure my friends know not to bring their business to you. I am extremely disappointed because I used to enjoy this restaurant. I will be glad to return when/if customer service is ever a priority.
The food here was gross the sweet n sour sauce tasted old and the orange chicken was very chewy and seemed very old.. The only good thing here was the sesame chicken and it wasn’t very good either. I do not recommend it was 51 dollars for 2 dishes of this horrible food . The people were nice though. NO FORTUNE COOKIE?!!!
Nobody wears a mask in the kitchen or at the cashier. Saw a guy in the kitchen kick off his shoe and itch his foot. Then went back to serving food. He didnt even try to wash his hands. Contacted by owner and was given a lame sorry. Teach you staff proper hand wash tech and food prep. I will not be back.
We ordered from here last week and had a over all great experience. The lady and man who assisted us over the phone are very sweet. The food arrived right under a hour, which was okay for us because we are a little further out than some. My shrimp lo mein was perfect. My husbands shrimp fried rice and lemon pepper wings was just as good. Cant wait to order from them again. Glad to find someone who delivers to us besides pizza!!
The food is usually fine and I’ve been here several times is why I’m giving 3 stars. Today though I stood in the restaurant for 5-10 minutes while the employees were speaking loudly in the back and nobody saw or came to help me so I left and went elsewhere. Need to be aware when you have a customer waiting that long in front of the cash register/most visible spot in the restaurant.
Delivery was VERY quick (not necessarily a good thing) but the food was less than appetizing. It was not even room temperature when it arrived. That lead me to believe the food was sitting around before we even ordered it. Besides the cold temperature, the food was disgusting in general. It didnt seem like real Chinese food. The fried rice was NOT fried rice. Cold, soggy chicken... Im very disappointed. Save your time, money and tummy and order elsewhere!
I am so sad to change my review. Sophia the old owner sold her business to a friend, and Im pretty sure their chief quit too, because the food quality and quantity has changed so much, and for the worse. I am so sad. My husband I have been coming to China Star since they opened, and we have been faithful customers, and Sophia even said goodbye to us before she left the company. We will no longer be returning to China Star. That being said the new owner is very sweet and kind. It is very unfortunate that the food quality has suffered under her control.
I used to like their food but they have always had terrible service. If you ask for say no onions they charge you more because you are a hassle. Went several times and was always leery about the ending bills so I kept them to study. Each time I got the same thing and each time the prices were dollars different, seems like they charge you what ever they feel like rather than what they advertise. The final straw was the last time I ate here. I ordered delivery for lunch at work. They didnt show up for two hours and several calls later. The final call I wanted to cancel but the lady insisted it would be half price so I gave in. After that the food arrived within five minutes hot and fresh and loaded with an odd looking, white powdery substance in the rice. To boot, she still charged me full price.
I have ordered lunch from China Star countless times. I have never had the food take longer than about 9 minutes to prepare. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The prices are better than any other Chinese restaurant in the area that I am familiar with. The inside of the restaurant is small, but clean, sleek, and charming.
The food is good, however delivery is horrible! I called to see if they were deliverying. Once I was told yes, it would be 45 minutes for delivery time, I then ordered. We waited and waited and waited. At an hour we called and were told driver was “on the way”. Then at an hour and a half, we called and was told they had several deliveries and it would be there soon. Then at two and a half hours, I called again and our food arrived. FAR cry from the 45 minutes we were told PRIOR to placing order. We only live 8 minutes from restaurant, so had I known it would take two and a half hours, I would have picked up or ordered from a different place! Then the order was WRONG! I will never order from China Star on HWY 20 in Canton again. They simply lied about delivery each time I called. Had they not already charged my card as soon as I placed order, I would have cancelled and had dinner from a different place. They are NOT the only Chinese restaurant in town who delivers! Don’t offer delivery if you can’t fulfill your time promised.
Avoid this business! The manager or owner and delivery guy should be ashamed of their behavior towards me and my family today. I placed a phone order at 5:22. I provided my credit card to pay the bill and tip. I explained the almost $100 worth of food was for a terminally ill relative and family and that I did not live in Canton. I was very clear about the situation and noted that the food should be left on the front porch. I asked for a call when the food had been delivered. No one called, so I called back at 6:38 to ask if the food had been delivered. The woman who took my order said it was on the way. Then some guy, manager or owner, called me back. He was very rude and said he would not deliver the food unless I was there to sign the receipt AND showed a photo ID. I kept asking why he was telling me this almost 2 hours after I’d placed the order. He hung up on me! I called back and offered to text or email my photo ID, credit card and a photo of myself. He refused. Now my family has no dinner.I found out later that the delivery guy was at my mom’s house at the same time. My sister said he came into the foyer, wouldnt leave or get his foot out of the door, and stood there and yelled at my family. What a terrible business.
NO UTENSILS FOR TO GO ORDERS. NEEDS TO ASK FOR THEM??????The only restaurant will not automatically give you utensils!!! When called to ask, the front desk said we didnt ask for it. Lol!!! Whats the reason to place a to go order and dont need forks for food and spoons for soup? Not all Chinese restaurants are like this. But this one is really really bad.. please dont waste your time and try. If you do, keep in mind to ask for utensils for your family. Otherwise you will be like us. Using our hands.
Worst experience ever!Food took an hour and half to get delivered, was over priced- 3 combos and an order of fried dumplings $50! Two of the orders were sweet and sour chicken and the sauce was not in the bag.... The food was not very good on top of it all! We will never order from this place again. Dont waste your time or money!
We ordered delivery. They stated it would be 45 minutes, And hour and a half later the food shows up. I call because I ordered 4 meals and 2 extra large rice. We received 1 rice for all of our meals. I called and told the person that picked up the phone and she told me that rice is extra it is not sold with the meal. So I ordered 2 rice and only got 1, what Chinese place makes you buy your rice in addition to your meal. Never Again! And I will not recommend this place.
I wish there was a negative star. They repeatedly get the order wrong and what bothers me the most is they always try to prove me a liar when all I want is what I ordered. very dishonest. I gave them another chance and ordered from there but again they gave me the wrong order. I will never go there or order from them ever again.
Baffled by our experience on 11/13/2015. Stated it would take 45 minutes...after 2 hours and calling 3 times they finally arrived. After calling back to cancel it they offered to take off 50%. Then after they left we realized they didnt even provide the rice. Yet again another call back to the restaurant. So roughly 2 1/2 hours late after 5 calls and still not a complete order we called to ask for our money back. The woman refused and said she would personally drive out here and pick the food back up. Im pretty speechless by the entire event. My hope is that we are an anomaly, however I suspect we probably arent. Good luck if you decide to use them.
Awful experience with their food twice. Our last time we ordered two meals and were not able to finish either of them because of how they tasted. One was overcooked in peanut oil (the chicken tasted like boiled peanuts) and another chicken dish that tasted like the chicken was off. I dont give negative reviews, but I would certainly warn you against this.
Really good hot and sour soup, good egg rolls, pretty good shrimp fried rice but the entrées werent great. Spent $100 and definitely wasnt worth that at all. The entrées were a step up from frozen Chinese food youd get at a grocery store. Ill definitely get the soup again and our two toddlers loved the lo mein but the rest of the food was mediocre at best. Not worth the price or hassle of having to read my credit card info three times before they got it correct, repeating the order twice also...delivery guy was on time exactly. They said 45 min and at 45 min on the dot, our doorbell rang. Temperature was great on all items. Still very hot even with delivery so gave an extra star for that.Fyi- we ordered general tso chicken, kung pao beef, shrimp fried rice, hot & sour soup, egg rolls, plain lo mein and beef & asparagus. The beef tasted pretty awful on all entrées. My 9 year old lives on sushi and Asian cuisine 2-4 X week but she wouldnt eat anything she ordered and ended up snacking on rice and soup. Pretty disappointed. The price is not comparable to nearby restaurants. We went to Rainbow Asia last weekend and all of us loved it and we spent less even with having soda and my husband had a beer.
Ordered 3 meals and paid for three meals, to go. Got home and had only 2 meals. My other son with me ordered separately and paid separately. He didnt get his soup. By the way, egg drop soup👎. Food was not worth the price, rather eat panda express. Ive eaten Chinese in several states and overseas. Never have I had such a negative experience.
I wish I could give it more stars because it was the only place we could get into on Thanksgiving, but I cant. My daughter couldnt even eat her General Tso because it was so chewy and rubbery. When we got home we all had to run to the bathroom, and then my 3 year old son vomited on his bed that night. We ate the same thing and it made me sick too. Obviously nothing is fresh but it was actually bad too. I gave 2 stars because my husband actually did like his noodle meal.
I would give 2.5 stars if i could. I really enjoy their food but they over charge for some items, and have gotten lost over and over again when delivering...not to mention my moms favorite thing to do on Mothers day is to eat their Chinese food, so when I called to place an order and showed up about 15 min. late because I was getting some flowers for my mother; and they threw my food away because it got too cold so they began making new and did not even tell me. I walked in, paid, and waited....and waited....and waited at the counter awkwardly because I thought my food was coming out any minute. I finally asked where my food was and the girl went back to check and came out and told me it would be out in a few minutes. So I waited EVEN LONGER. I finally had lost my patience. I demanded to know what was going on and why it was taking so long for my food to come out when I had placed my order 40 minutes prior. THEN the truth came out.By this time I was hungry, impatient, and furious. The manager started arguing with me. She had even pulled my mangled lemon chicken out of wherever, unlidded, demanded that I feel the temperature (it still felt fine in my opinion), and paraded around the restaurant with it still arguing with me flailing my chicken around with her. Then had the audacity to ask if this was the one I wanted instead of waiting. I replied uh no not after you paraded around the restaurant with it and put your fingers all over it. More arguing, while still waiting for my food might I add. FINALLY it comes out and I run out of there as fast as possible. The food didnt even taste as good after all that, hm.I have not and will not give them my business after this. I have even broken my rule of this due to convenience, etc. and sure enough something always happens to justify my choice.
Food is great, if you dont mind picking out random items... And IF you get your food. Weve ordered at least a dozen times and they forget half the order everytime, with the exception of once. Not to mention the lady is disrespectful, rude, ignorant, and inappropriate. seriously, go to mandarin house II.
Placed 3 orders on 9/4/17 and when total seemed off I inquired about price and got hung up on. Called back thinking maybe connection was bad but got hung up on again. MALE THAT ANSWERED the phone was RUDE and cancelled the order because we asked about price. Then was transferred to female who was equally as RUDE! I got hung up more times that I would like to admit. I cant remember the last time I experienced this bad service. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!
We orded take out and waited, Not sure if i will go back. The crab ragoons were okay, my 5 year old who loves chinese would not eat them. I purchased to entries sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and general taos. The rice was disgusting the 1 year old wouldnt eat the rice. There was NO Sweet & Sour sauce which greatly disappointed my 5 year old, the geral taos was bland, there was and over abundance of green peppers, dried red hot peppers, onions, and carrots mixed with the tasteless sauce. This style of Chinese is not what I was looking forward. The restaurant was Very clean and welcoming and easy to find.
First off this place is nasty...If your thinking about trying this place RUN and I mean run...The lady on the phone told me that it would take 35-40 minutes for our food...#ThatWasALie😒 Secondly she was rude to me on the phone and getting a smart attitude with me and saying my address wrong also. The man arrived to our home less than 15 minutes...Now thats very scary for someone who just placed an order on the phone 3 minutes ago..Ding Dong the man is at our door What🤔 Im not very happy about this China star already...Then when I opened our food up it was luke-warm not smoking hot at all..Now I know people like chinese food especially black american people and we like our food super hot where it has to cool off for aleast 5 minutes..thats real chinese food! In the words of Maya Angelou If someone shows you who they are believe them...That goes for nasty, pre-cooked, lukewarm food at china star..Save yall money and gas dont go to china star in Canton Ga, on Cummings hwy...Just keep on driving and dont look back!!!! If you want real chinese food go on Pinterest and cook it your self aleast its safe and prepared freshly by your own hands in your own kitchen! #ChinaStarSucks #GradeFFFFFFFFFFFFF😡😡😡😡😡😡😝🤔

2021-07-31The staff here was super friendly and helpful, but the food really wasnt as amazing as advertised, though everything was fresh and piping hot. Its good if you are expecting American Chinese, but if youre looking for good quality Chinese, I would go elsewhere. Also the bathroom sink had a pretty gross mold buildup on the faucet, something easily cleaned. Overall, however, this place is pretty much what youd expect of an American Chinese place only with excellent customer service, so I give it 4 stars.

2021-11-18Service was very slow and you can take my word that the posted health inspection score of 80... might be generous. I ordered the General Tso lunch and waited forever and it was completely raw when I received it. The only waitress was brand new and when I showed the raw food to what I think was the manager, she said she will go back and re-cook it herself. Makes me wonder who is actually qualified to cook and handle their food. I did not see any ServeSafe certs... I am glad I tried to cut the piece of chicken in half before I put it in my mouth!

2021-11-10Ehhh not the greatest environment. Staff seems discombobulated. Bus boy’s pants are hanging down so low his entire backside is hanging out. First time here and probably won’t be back. The waitress was sweet though. The food was VERY GOOD!!!!!

2022-04-18Place is clean and put together. Ordered Mr. Beast Burger online and this is the pickup location. Order was received an hour before arrival and scheduled time. Arrived at store 5 minutes early and we’ve been told the order wasn’t received until recently and that it would be awhile. I scheduled pick up for 11:15. We’ve been waiting 5+ minutes and the store has not had a single person walk in since the time we arrived. Employees are standing around and screaming in the back of house. Would not recommend.

2021-12-19The food was delicious… BUT !!!!We arrived there at opening. The restaurant was literally sticky everywhere you walked and the tables were not clean the customer across from us had to send his silverware back for being dirty. It was a little disturbing being that we were the first customers of the day. I kept looking for the health inspection report but I never found it. The waitress was sweet but seemed stressed. I felt sympathetic towards her.

2022-03-29Worst food. If they want any chance of surviving, they’d go back to their old menu. How do you buy a restaurant and keep the name and change everything about it. I went in with low expectations and they didn’t even meet those. Don’t even bother coming here, this is not Chinese. $40 later and my husband and I both left hungry. Our crab rangoons had barely any filling in them and both of our ramen bowls had absolutely no flavor. Waste of money and waste of time. We won’t be back.

2022-06-08Went in for 6 bubble teas and will not go back. I’d rather order from Amazon and make them at home. Open straws were touched with bare hands and placed in our drinks when there were wrapped straws right next to them. Floor was sticky everywhere, there was salt or sugar all over the benches/floor, someone’s food was left sitting half-eaten on a table with flies all over it the whole time we were there…which was a very long time. It smelled like a sewage back-up when we walked in. My kids ended up not even wanting to drink their teas because of all of this so it was a big waste of money. This place used to be really good, sad that it’s gone so downhill.

2020-12-29First off the food is incredible. I think out of the 8 things my friends and I have tried we have enjoyed every single one of them.I usually get the Mongolian chicken which is off the chain tasty. I’ve also had the pad Thai and it’s the best in the area hands down. The owner makes her own kombucha as well! It’s refreshing and light with orange and ginger. The food is always hot and fresh and the service timely and attentive. Get yourself over here and try this place you won’t regret it.Oh and just a note: the lady who runs this place is a gem! She’s so personable and likable. I enjoy talking to her every time I come in. Also, even if she isn’t wearing a mask, well neither am I at the table, all those negative reviewers about her should just stay home. You don’t know her story because you didn’t care to ask. If you’re afraid of Covid stay home or order take-out.

2022-05-13$15 Luke warm ramen.Couldn’t tell me the difference in ramens.Told me ramen would have vegetables… then when she brought my food says, she forgot, it doesn’t come with vegetables.Same 20 cent ramen you make at home, minus the flavor.Only customer from 12-12:45 on a Friday afternoon should tell you all you need to know.
