We held my daughters Baptism Brunch here and I cannot begin to describe how great it was! Natasha was my party planner and she was such a delight. She was very detail oriented, accommodating, and sweet. Lakeland (I think that is right..) was our server/bartender. She was the absolute best, so attentive to our party, super amazing with the kids and really kind. You could tell she truly wanted to be sure we were having a special day, which meant so much to us all. All of our guests went on and on about how great it was. Thanks for such a great experience Cohens Retreat!
Our first time here and the food was absolutely DELISH!!! I’ve always heard so many great things about this restaurant and I was happy to finally get to experience it myself. Our server Gabriella was super nice and helpful. Everyone was so nice from the servers to the hostess. We can’t wait to return! Hope you enjoy the photos 📸
We went to Cohens Retreat for the first time. I loved the ambiance of the interior. There was a group (band) of people sitting in the lobby playing music... it was really cool to watch them. I had the shrimp and grits and would have to say that it was the ABSOLUTE BEST that I have EVER had! We have friends coming to visit and we are definitely taking them for brunch!
Had never been to Cohens Retreat before so took a few minutes before lunch to see the inside area, market and boutique. A little wait for my table but very friendly, informative staff to chat with. Great new menu and beverage list. Chose a baby salad and the chowder, very good. Will definitely go back and try something else soon.
Entering this old building reminded me more or a museum or a library but from what I know it used to be a retirement home. The inside of this place is huge and every room has its own artistic touch. We got a table immediately and service was quick. The food was decent, but coffee was great. They have a merchandise store inside and another coffee bar.
As the 2020-2021 President of Buy Local Savannah we have enjoyed working with the staff at Cohens Retreat for our monthly luncheons. They are accommodating and professional. We hosted several lunches there over the course of 2021 and they were all successful. Great food, lovely staff, beautiful building. Highly recommend.
The crab soup was perfection!! I am now addicted, and will be going back again this week.☺ The staff were polite and very attentive. Love the decor, this would be a wonderful place for rehearsal dinners or receptions. There is also a little shop on one side, with a charming little sweet shoppe next to it.
Had another great meal at Cohens. Sundays brunch menu has a little bit of everything to choose from. Our table had the French toast, chicken biscuit, eggs Benedict, shrimp and grits, & omelet. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes (served with bacon jam and pimento cheese) which are a favorite! VV was our server and she did a great job and was very attentive. We will be back! Reservations are accepted and recommended here
Cohens Retreat has cottages for overnight stay. I did not eat here while on a business trip. Spotless, well appointed and thought out living space with its own front and back porches. I love to sit outside. Parking is a little bit of a walk depending on which cottage you have, but nice paved paths and well maintained landscaping lead you to each. Would love to stay here again and check out the dining options.
Loved this place, so cute. The food was delicious and The Bowie was the best cocktail I’ve had in a while. The fried chicken was well-seasoned and I was expecting basic mac and cheese but it was truly southern. Loved the decor. Music was awesome. Marty was a great server with an actual personality. We’ll be back!
My husband and I had an intimate wedding ceremony in one of the squares downtown and then had dinner afterwards at Cohens Retreat in October of 2020. Cohens was the best option we could find for the budget we had. We rented out The Clubhouse. It was plenty of room for 20-ish people, and the food was AMAZING! Our bartender was also so, so sweet and gracious with us and made us some very good drinks (that we still make to this day). 10/10 would definitely recommend!!!
Went here for happy hour recently and had a great time! They had live music in their outdoor area, and the drinks were amazing! The outdoor area is so cute with pick-up truck tables and pretty string lights everywhere! I will definitely be bringing my friends back here soon!
We held our wedding reception at Cohens Retreat. It was absolutely perfect. We started planning about 18 months out from our date and Gabby stayed in almost constant contact with me and our planner. Gabby answered every question I had and was always available to us. She made planning easy and fun. All of the staff at Cohens were great! We ate many meals there in between planning and the actual day and were never disappointed. Every staff member we encountered was professional, friendly, and knowledgable. The food is absolutely delicious and our guests were super impressed. Chris, the banquet captain was fabulous the night of and made us feel really welcomed. We could not have asked for a better event! They made everything perfect!
A great oasis on Skidaway Island. Walk in and leave the world behind. We stopped in for a drink and appetizer of fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese and bacon jam. Out of this world delicious. I had a gin martini and my daughter had a Moscow Mule made with Savannah vodka. We walked around in the shops with our drinks in hand. Made shopping more fun. They have a restaurant and large event center in the building. Sitting area outside around the huge water fountain. Fun place to relax.
Great atmosphere, great food, great service. We took my mother for her birthday, and the chef came out and talked to her (she was delighted with the shrimp and grits and the chef’s tomato jelly, and he gave her a small jar of it as a gift). Very nice experience, and we will be back in the future.
Smoked chicken wings was the star of our meal. Amazing appetizer, We left wanting more 4 wings was just not enough. Order extra sauce ot was soooo good.. We also had the fried chicken sandwich which was also great. Marty our server was awesome. Outside looks histori. But the inside is very modern and trendy. We are in Savannah 3 days and want to come back before we leave.
Trying to deal with the site manager is not possible, go through AirBnB or nothing. Asked manager what kind of coffee pot they had prior to arrival, reply, go thorough AirBnB for that info. I had pre-paid for myself and my girlfriend. Received E-Mail explaining check in process. Given code for lock box which had two keys??? Only one opened the two door locks. Turns out the other was for the laundry room. Welcome packet said the laundry key would be on the refrigerator, not so.Welcome packet gave numbers of two employees to contact if things went wrong. AC went out 2nd day, turns out neither individual worked there. One of the individuals was kind enough to give my girlfriend contact information so we could get it fixed. Remainder of the stay went well. Great place and location.Problems with the cottage, couch and chair were two pieces of furniture that should have been left outside on the side walk for free. Doubt anyone would have taken them. Shower did not have grab bars, hard and dangerous for elderly, which we are, to shower. There was absolutely no communication of the activities going on in the main building. Cottages are behind the main building, so unable to see if anything was going on. Poor communication with guests. Could not have brunch on Mother’s Day, no reservations. Who knew. We stayed 10 days, May 2-11, and not once did anyone, including the manager Gabby, come to our cottage to welcome us, see how things were going, or give us a list of activities. At a hotel your at least welcomed when you check in.
This place was a Nutter Delight! The first thing that you notice is the funky and very cool and hip decor. From the prior residents walking canes which are artfully hung on a wall to the tree made of old silver, Cohens retreat is an artistic find. Most importantly, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. I went there for lunch and have the tomato pie which I cannot recommend highly enough. My friend had the salad Trio which she said was also tasty. We share the apple cobbler, which for my taste, was a tad too sweet but otherwise very good with Leopolds Ice Cream sitting a top it. My husband and I are going to go back in a week to have dinner there. It would also be a fabulous place for a holiday dinner or corporate lunch. This truly is one of the Hidden gems of Savannah
Quite far away from main tourist actions in Savannah. This is absolutely a local gem. This restaurant was renovated possibly from an old church. It has lots of different rooms. It can accommodate a small wedding and many different parties at the same time. Their decorations were great. You can tell they put a lot of thought into it. Rustic, but elegant. The food here were great! They served southern food with a little enhancement. They have life music from music lovers. You can tell they enjoy the moment. Service was excellent. Highly recommended!
This place is a one of a kind restaurant. I enjoyed my visit as I briefly stopped in to have a bite to eat and a cocktail. The bar-tender was very friendly and knowledgeable. The host were kind as well. I appreciated the great customer service( their vibe) as I often find this to be a rarity. The crab cakes and stew was delicious and the key lime pie was awesome. I will definitely visit again when in the area and have already recommended it to friends near and far. The artistic designs throughout the place was a unique. I just had a lovely experience here. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of food. The chef even came out to greet some guest.
Eating here is an experience. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars, instead of 5, is because of the price. We ordered “crab cakes” and wings from the small plates menu — both were beautiful and tasty, but the crab cakes were disappointingly small and more expensive. My favorite thing about Cohen’s is the atmosphere. Each room is a masterpiece that takes dining to the next level. I’ll let these pictures speak for themselves.
Okay food. Nothing to rave about. The hostess was friendly but it stopped there. We were the only guests I saw the entire time we were there. The waiter was obviously not glad we were there. He didnt check on us after delivering our food until we flagged him down. We arrived around 3pm on a Thursday and were told there was no alcohol being served except beer and wine which was interesting. They also didnt have any non alcoholic beer options. So I ended up choosing water, however when my water glass was empty, it was never refilled. When it came to desert they were out of the buttermilk pie... at 3pm on a Thursday... they havent even had their dinner rush... interesting setup. I wont be returning.
This place consists of a gift shop in three separate gathering halls. this entire place is very spacious and beautiful and well designed. there are also cabins in the back for an overnight stay. The pictures will not do this place justice. There is such a warm vibe emanating from this establishment. I would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone who wants to try a very fancy date night.
It was very cozy, and the area was nice and quiet. The only little things was that therrs a cleaning fee yet the place was very extremely dusty and after mopping it twice the floor was a little more cleaned up I had to also ask for a new blanket because the one originally there was stained and had stuck on food. I recieved blankets and towels so it wasnt too bad.Id stay again I loved the fact I could cook nice meals and enjoy it.
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner about two weeks ago with all aspects of the dinner most enjoyable. My wife really enjoyed the crab cake and said it was the closest to our memories of living on the Chesapeake Bay for many years. Chef Rob came to the table and outlined options for a vegetarian meal that was not on the menu but was delightful in both creativity and flavor. We will definitely return. Also, no parking hassles!!
This was a very unique experience for dinner. My date and I both ordered the specials for the evening and they were both extremely fresh. The staff was helpful, kind, and respectful. We were recommended to this place by someone who lives nearby and it was a perfect decision. All items are $30 and below.
I was very excited after seeing married to medicine to take my friends to Cohen’s retreat very nice atmosphere our waiter Greg was very helpful and very nice but where they fell short was my burger was dry it felt like a frozen burger overcooked my fries had the whole salt shaker on it my friends had to return their meal not once but twice the the lamb was burnt and the shrimp and grits had enough salt 🧂 to to kill you felt like the chef did that on purpose . definitely definitely DO NOT go here !!!!!!
No restaurant in Savannah compares to Cohens. The food is delicious and flavorful without the flavor being solely salt. I’ve ate at another one of the chefs restaurants and had the same experience. His name is Will. Not to mention they have a great happy hour special..
Disappointing. I ordered the strip steak (and like others have noted) came pre cut, tough and relatively a small portion. Potatoes were good. Okra was plentiful, piled high in fact, but its one veggie I just dont like. Service and ambiance were ok. Bottom line, not a good place for a steak dinner.
Thoroughly enjoyed a fairly spontaneous luncheon for 12 at Cohens!Allie was our server and she was delightful and so very efficient. We selected a wide variety of entrees and the kitchen was superb. No complaints, everything seemed garden fresh. This is an easy to find spot for locals and worth finding for tourists. Tons of parking, elegant presentation but prices are reasonable and Cohens even has boutique shops - really cool merchandise also at great prices. Thank You for hosting our group!
Blase exterior hides a really interesting space with a mid century vibe. Theyve worked hard to make a comfy and useful place to spend some time. My experience was for a work retreat so we spent a full work day. Lunch was well-rounded with something for everyone (shrimp and grits for me), with most of the food scratch-made on premises. My one complaint is that the HVAC can be loud and pity the person sitting under the downdraft.
I’ve been to this restaurant several times and every time it has been fantastic! The food and service are top notch and the decor is very eye catching. I wonder if there is a better restaurant in the Savannah area? Whether you live in Savannah or are just visiting, I highly encourage you to visit.
Some friends and I visited this little gem during Savannahs Restaurant Week. Our server was the most WONDERFUL Mr. Louis! I immediately disclosed to him that I have a nut allergy, Louis took the lead and navigated my taste buds in the right direction. Louis was not only attentive to our party of three, conversational on the craziest subjects, but the ONLY reason well visit again. When you visit..ask for Louis!
When looking for our wedding reception venue we were looking for something romantic and modern with a mix of vintage. We were immediately drawn to Cohens with its beautiful and artsy touches but originally thought they were out of our price range. But after talking further with Gabby and having her explain all of our options we realized it was perfect for us. We had a small destination wedding (we live in MD) in September. Our ceremony was at Wormsloe Historic Site and reception at Cohens Retreat which worked out perfectly as theyre only a few miles apart from each other. I (bride) cant say enough good things about working with Gabby and how flexible and patient she was with us. She was really attentive to all of my numerous questions and was good about calling me back and replying to my emails. She went over every option available and explained everything in detail. I really appreciated her working with not only me but our other vendors to make sure everything ran smoothly. On the day of the wedding I was sad I couldnt meet Gabby in person but was told she was on a much needed vacation so was happy to hear she was having fun with her family! The only thing I would note is that there were extra empty place settings/chairs at some of our tables which made them look a little empty. Im not sure if there was miscommunication somehow that led to this but overall our experience was great with Cohens staff. The (I think his name was Chris?) who was the other event manager and our bartender for the night was amazing! He was very helpful and super friendly! Our guests had nothing but nice things to say about him and would definitely recommend to other brides to book your wedding at Cohens with their awesome event team and beautiful decor.
Amazing find! Private location with lots of choices for private dining, small or large groups. Exceptional dedicated staff who take pride in their jobs. Outstanding food served with a gourmet flair. I look forward to coming back again or bringing out of town guests. Cohens retreat also does weddings or events. We were here for an early lunch. Started with shrimp and corn chowder and a seasonal salad with petite watermelon balls, blueberries and mint/arugula leaves. Main course - fried shrimp and flounder sandwich with fresh cut fries. Dessert - peach and blueberry cobbler with leopolds vanilla ice cream.Highly recommend over vics on the river or chart house. Same prices but far superior quality .
Beautifully renovated and re-purposed Cohens Old Mans Retreat. Warm and inviting ambience, great food, artisan cocktails and wonderful service. Nikki provided a friendly welcome at the bar, and Louis gave us an excellent tour of the various dining rooms, event space, and market before serving us a delicious dinner. My sister and brother-in-law were visiting from Denver and considering a move to Savannah. Together we enjoyed appetizers of Deviled Eggs and Crab Lillies followed by the Duck Pot Pie, Pork Chop, Fried Chicken and the Crispy Duck Breast special. We finished this wonderful evening with Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream and Apple Crumble Cheesecake. We will definitely be back!
Kids plates were inedible. Burger was hard as a hockey puck. The kids just laughed. My fish was oily and not nearly as good as it was a few months ago. Same with the wifes crab cakes. Overall, just lacks consistency in quality and hey, if you want the little folks to be happy, they like their food prepared well just like we do. Also, very long waits between first greeting, getting water, 20 minutes later, here is your wine. Dont go hungy?
Not worth more than one star. If I could give it less I would.Took my family for my daughters 18th birthday, and they ruined it!WE WERE THE ONLY CUSTOMERS, and they still managed to serve cold food.3 out of 5 dishes were served cold. My daughters steak was cold, my lamb ribs and my kids burger. 2 fish plates served luke warm. Fish was supposed to be grouper, pretty sure it was catfish we were served.Sent steak back cuz it was cold. We were, supposed to get an overpriced skirt steak cooked medium and in return we get a overpriced skirt steak RARE.The fries are supposed to be homemade and Fantastic according to the waitress, they were regular fries from Walmarts frozen food section.Mac and cheese were out of a box, again supposed to be homemade.Lamb ribs were served cold, mac and cheese served cold. For the money this place charges, and how empty the place was we should have had an incredible experience and meal.Such a let down.Never again!
Checked out Cohen’s Retreat for a friends birthday and really loved the atmosphere. A private room was rented with a bar and we had specials all night from the bar menu. Fried green tomatoes, the Cohens cheeseburger with collard greens were fantastic! Can’t wait to return!
Cohens Retreat is a Savannah gem. Yes, its off the beaten path for Savannah restaurants, but that also lends it some charm - youll have no parking issues, and not have many of the touristy-hype-thats-not-warranted-problems. The building sat abandoned and in shambles for years, and the owners have done a loving rehab that is stunning, complete with many small rooms to dine, and an artists collective of small hand-crafted shops. The food is consistently delicious. Shrimp beignets and zhushed-up fried green tomatoes are great small plates, if they have lobster bisque dont miss it, and their seasonal salads are fresh and clean. Entrees... Yes, theyre known for their crab cakes (Maryland native here, so standards are high and they deliver - flying in Maryland crab regularly for the cakes), but all of the seafood entrees are a lock. The seared scallops with asparagus and grit cakes are great, as is their grilled grouper. And, unlike a lot of higher-end restaurants, they dont disappoint with the same old-same old (key lime pie, anyone?) desserts, with a number of seasonal desserts that will knock your socks off.Service has always been proficient and friendly (ask for JaCori if you can get him!)... except for a few nights ago, when - whoa, surprised here - we had a young man who rushed us and seemed really peeved. Having been here many times Im going to chalk this up to a one-off and still say, this is 5-star Savannah dining.
This was a bit disappointing, I was expecting an experience. I received a dry pork chop with no sauce, 2 pancakes and a cup of air fried brussel sprouts... I asked for mac n cheese and was told they had sold out. It literally takes 10 minutes to make mac n cheese. Was unimpressed.
Cohens Retreat is a great destination spot in Savannah whether youre from Savannah or just visiting. The items available in the retail space are well curated and selected with the inventory comprised of locally produced goods to exotic one-of-a-kinds and everything in between with a range of prices leaving it affordable for all budgets. I have not yet had the pleasure to eat there, but I look forward to a return trip with my friends to have a decadent lunch based on what I saw on the menu. The list of classes for those in the area look fantastic (and affordable considering the professional instruction) and the space alone is artistically inspiring, leaving plenty to see and admire if all you do is stop to visit the space. This doesnt even include all of the historical aspects one can learn about while there, or the other artist spaces on the premise. Every visit youll find something new (even if its been there all along) and will leave you wanting to come back again and again. Dont believe me in describing that awesomeness, then I recommend you visit yourself, I promise you wont be disappointed!
From an event venue perspective, this place is an absolute nightmare. We had issues from the moment our contract was signed, and they continued well after our wedding reception was over. The contract is pretty vague, but theyre sure to reference it when it works in their favor. Otherwise, nothing for you as a customer is set in stone. The current event and development manager (which seems like a stretch) is incredibly rude and unhelpful, and she refuses to work (cooperatively or otherwise) with brides. I never once laid eyes on her throughout the 9 month planning process.Nothing is truly included in the venue rental and the onsite caterer is challenging to work with. They will do absolutely nothing on your event day besides unlock the front door. We woke up the Monday after our wedding to an outpouring of congratulations and kind notes from our other wedding vendors, but all I ever got from Cohens Retreat was a bill for excessive cleaning.Stay FAR AWAY from this place if youre looking for an event venue or event vendor. There are other beautiful locations in Savannah that will treat you like an actual customer, and plenty of incredible vendors that are willing to actually help.
Im so sorry 😣😤...for such a decorated atmosphere ....I couldnt help but pay attention to what lies beneath🤐... I visited the Ladies 🌃 night out with my three daughters (16,14,4yrs)...My teens😳 brought somethings to my attention that I didnt notice right away🤔... Thank God for the one waiter that (Afro-American) finally did come to wait on us after the others avoided us.. 😑...We are a multi-cultural family and this is a multi-cultural Nation. Please take 📝 note and act accordingly... 😒🙏...#that_isSomeCoverOnThatBook
Hailing originally from Annapolis, MD, I have a very high bar set for crabcakes and these are hands down the BEST crabcakes Ive had in the Southeast. A bit more of a splurge than Id normally pay for myself for dinner during the week, but I would happily pay it again if I could get those crabcakes again!!

2022-02-15The food and service was good. It was my first time here, but Im guessing I was treated like a frequent guest which isnt bad. Wife made reservations for a special Valentine dinner at $70.00 per person. No worries as we are not bothered to pay extra for good food with a beautiful atmosphere, but what we paid for the small portion sizes was a bit much. Had the value been better I may have been excited about going back, but now, Ill pass. Almost $200 with tip and left hungry....

2021-12-26If you haven’t had their takeout package with Turkey and sides! You are missing out. They very best turkey we have ever had. First experience was Thanksgiving Dinner 2021 - everything was delicious! Went back again for Christmas Dinner 2021 - everything was excellent. The turkey is so moist and delicious. Everything is so easy! Ordering, pick up and cooking! Super simple and so worth it!

2022-06-11We held my wedding reception at Cohens Retreat. It was a small reception for 6-8 people. Natasha Davis helped us in booking the room and ordering the food in advance, and she is great. We took the chefs dining room. The food was delicious and service was warm. We started close to their closing time but they arranged for us and the kitchen and waiters/waitress was there with us untill the end which is 1 hour exceeding their closing time. What impressed me was the other guests having dinner there was cheering and congratulating for us when we came in. People go to the place they like, nice people go to nice place, isnt it?

2022-05-24It’s a great atmosphere. Fun to see and the bar is great. We have now been there twice and are underwhelmed. We moved to Savannah from NYC 18 months ago. Maybe we are expecting a bit too much. The food/flavors were good. The plating needs a lot of work. Way too many grits to go with 4 scallops at the price. The shrimp and grits were not appealing looking at all. You eat with your eyes first. Hoping they work on that aspect of things as it is a nice venue.

2022-02-21I hosted my 40th birthday party at Cohens. We rented the whole north wing since we had a band. Everything about the process was perfect - from booking with Gabby to organizing with Natasha - it could not have been any better. On the night of the event, the food was incredible, the bar handled the crowd with no issue, and the service was above and beyond. Everything was set up on time, beautifully done, water glasses were full before the first guest even arrived. Food was put out on time, plates were picked up, and they even cut and served the birthday cake with a champagne toast. I could go on and on about how fabulous they were and how happy I am that we booked with them!

2022-05-06Ordered the Charcuterie Board, Southern Tomato Pie, and Fried Green Tomatoes. They were all so very tasty; terrific presentation, too. The kids had the Fried Chicken Sandwich and Cohens Smash Burger, both of which were delicious. The hostess was fabulous and very helpful. Our party of seven got a table in a big, beautiful semi-private room. There is also a cute gift shop and a small bakery in the restaurant -- very tastefully done. From the initial greeting by the hostess, this place felt elegant.Definitely coming back.

2022-04-28We ate here after a wedding. Overall, the food was good. There was a limited menu and a few people in our party requested to eat something else and our server made us go to the bar to order it. The male bartender was a jerk in my opinion. He was so bothered that 2 adults and 1 child was ordering off the kids menu. Nonetheless, the food was good. The drinks were okay. Everyone felt as if he had a heavy pour. Our server was over booked we think as she was working two large parties. At one point, we had to refill our own water and drinks more than once. I would probably return.

2022-02-10Been there half dozen times. Beautiful, charming place and environment. However, very pricey and getting steeper. I had pork chop. It was small, overcooked, and tasteless. My wife ordered crab cakes. There were two small ones with a cold relish on them for $34. If you want a salad or bread, both items are additional charges! There was plenty of rice and beans. From now on I , will frequent other restaurants.

2022-06-14The food did not match the vibe at all. We ordered the bacon jam Benedict and the French toast. There was no flavor to the Benedict, eggs were just under done. The French toast had flavor but could have used a more substantial bread. The coffee was great and the sweet tea way way overpriced. The retreat itself is beautiful with a couple of hidden nooks.

2022-03-17What a great quiet place for a great Sunday lunch. First time we have visited, the shrimp and grits DELICIOUS! The staff was very professional and courteous. Something you do not see much anymore.Great job Cohens Retreat!
