Carters is the best place to get fried seafood in South Georgia. Their salad bar is clean and all of the veggies are fresh. But really you should skip the salad because you need ROOM for your main entree. I always order the seafood platter for 1 but really 3 people could eat it. Oysters are my favorite and their oysters are always fresh, breaded and cooked perfectly. I have eaten at their restaurant and I have attended events where they catered. The catering is delicious also. They no longer carry Mullet fish in the restaurant and I REALLY miss it!! I like to go on Thursdays or Fridays right at 3 when they open.
Still one of the best places anywhere to eat. The food is delicious! Healthy portions in every dish with really good side options. I always enjoy the fresh salad bar and I have a hard time passing up the deserts. If you come early enough you can spend a little time by the lake next door at Reed Bingham State Park and then venture over for a good meal. We always enjoy a relaxing evening and end up laughing and talking on the spacious front porch area.
It was a great experience. The food was good and fresh. Had the sampler plate with onion rings fried green tomatoes and fried pickles. Then as a main dish I had the whole fried catfish with coleslaw cheese grits and hush puppies. The fish was breaded seasoned and cooked just right..the coleslaw was fresh with a kinda sweet tang to it. The cheese grits!! Theres no words for how good they were!! A definite must go if you havent been. I definitely will be back soon. Only open Thursday Friday and Saturday.
We camped at Reed Bingham and this restaurant is just outside the gates, so itβs really convenient for dining. You expect it to be a bit pricey for that reason alone. But... we tried to order raft beers. They had one bottle of Sam Adams. They had one bottle of hard cider. Almost no one in the place was drinking anything except tea, so wine by the glass for $7.50 didnβt look like a good bet. We got the catfish platter for two with four sides. Price was the best deal on the menu. The catfish and shrimp were really good. The oysters and scallops were Cisco and meh. The deviled crab was icky. The baked potato was barely warm. (At 7pm ) Service was good, but we had to ask for tartar sauce. Hereβs the menu. Hope it helps!
We came here while camping at Reed Bingham State Park and boy are we glad we did. Their food was phenomenal and the best service. We enjoyed their fried shrimp and their garlic parmesan shrimp with Cole slaw and sweet potato fries were Yummy! Everything was so good and we look forward to going there again. We had a young waitress waiting on us and who ever her parents are deserve a pat on the back for raising such a conscientious young woman. She saw something on my plate that she didnt like and returned it to the kitchen and got me a new one. She was on top of the game. We also had a very cute young man who was bussing table (maybe 8) his father was there. This is how we were introduced into the work world. He was so mindful on what he was doing. Im sure hell make his dad proud.β£οΈ
I was not impressed with the fingerling sized whole catfish. They were 6 on the plate for a full serving with one catfish that was only skin and bones. It would have been nice to state the size of the catfish on the menu. The server was nice as well as the person cleaning the tables.
The place and food is wonderful. We did have about a 30 minute wait, although they made sure everyone was comfortable with the place. They offered bottle drinks like water and soda, for having to wait. Which I would gladly wait an hour to eat with the hospitality that they show people. We had nice benches to sit on outside while waiting too. The quiet country area really fits the place too, and located next to one of our state parks. So families can come eat, and then enjoy the park. Or come eat after a day at the park. The waitress was wonderful, and very attentive. She made sure to keep orders correct, and things taken care of. Which I think its nice that she would ask and make sure we got things right. Even if someone asks twice, its good they care to get it right. The food was worth every penny. Cooked beautifully, and not a single problem to be had. The place inside was really awesome too. Clean, bright, and I love the style of decorations in the place. Now to be honest, me growing up around Florida and mainly loving ocean caught fish, I normally dont eat much fresh water fish. Yet, they have me caught on their fresh water fish cooking. Everything cooked perfectly, great flavor, and nothing too much. So they have made a lifetime part of that place. I am really glad to have been able to enjoy their place and food.
The fried seafood is really the specialty here, and itβs quite good. On a busy night the wait can be rather long, but the staff is friendly and helpful. Once my wife mentioned sheβd like fresh hush puppies and the manager himself went to the back and brought back an entire plate full.
We waited for 1 hours and 45 minutes for our food while other larger parties around us came in, ordered, ate and left. We were seated immediately. We finally got our food at 10pm, their closing time. Our waitress was amazing and the long wait was not her fault. Poor management. Food was okay
This was a random stop for dinner from a long drive home from Florida, but this was one of the most amazing restaurants from our vacation. Their salad bar is fresh and delicious, and their loaded sweet potato fries are out of this world. And thatβs before the main course gets to you. Well worth the stop off the beaten path of long highway travel.
Ok, after 8 months Im changing my review from 5 stars to 1 star. They give you a fork but not a knife. So it was hard to cut the cucumbers from the salad bar. I mentioned it to our waitress about not having knives and she says they usually have some laid out at the salad bar. Of course we couldnt get one from her because she was almost non-existent. She finally brought our food. My wife and I ordered cheese grits. They were drier than sand and just as gritty. When I mentioned this to our waitress, she kinda giggled and just handed me the bill. I like a bill that is itemized, not just a total. By it being itemized, I can see if something is missing or added on. Just makes sense to me. The whole catfish I had were also pretty small. Overall it wasnt a good experience. Guess Ill be driving to Ray City from now on and eat at Rays Mill Pond.
We were on our way home out of Georgia back to Florida. We were looking for a sit-down restaurant where we could get that last little bit of Georgia southern charm. Company 5 was perfect. Completely worth the drive off the beaten path. They treated us like family, the catfish was great and we went home with a smile. Thanks, Company 5 Catfish House!
We ate here Sat, Feb 6 and the restaurant was having a bad night. They were out of shrimp, pasta, and steak. The restaurant is large, and well decorated. Our service was sub-par, we were not sure if our server was in training or just having a bad night. When our food arrived, it was good but it was not what we went there to eat.
We live in Adel and eat here on occasion. The food is usually good. The service depends on who your server is. Last Friday when we ate there the people at the table behind us commented on the way some of the employees were wearing their mask. We looked and also saw that instead of covering their nose and mouth the mask were looped over the ears and were pulled under the chin. Perhaps they were not servers but I was very uncomfortable because they repeatedly passed by our tables with less than the suggested 6 foot distance. Our waitress wore hers and was great.
HORRIBLE!!!! Way over priced, hot in restaurant, there were waitresses everywhere but took quiet awhile to be waited on, we ordered appetizers rite away....30 mints later we still were waiting when our waitress came to let us know our tickets had just been turned in.....are you kidding me!!!!! It took OVER AN HOUR to get our food,ALMOST 2 HRS!!!!! The food was NOT hot!!!!! Wasnt good at all !!!THE FLIES WERE HORRIBLE!!!!! FOR OVER $100 I REALLY EXPECTED A LOT BETTER!!! STAY AWAY!!!!
This place has been recommended to me a lot however this was my first time coming here. It took nearly 30 min just to get our drinks and nearly an hour and a half to get our food. Half of my food was undercooked and wasnβt edible. Maybe it would be better if it wasnβt so busy and they had the ability to pay more attention to their tables it would be better. Not sure I will be coming back here again.
My family and i ate here and it was absolutely amazing. Due to no fault of there own when we sat down and ordered our drinks the power went out and the staff and owners did everything they could to feed us. they ended up bringing us everything they had on there hot bar in the kitchen to feed my family. They truly went above and beyond!!! next time we are in the area camping at the state park we will be back again!!!
~40 min wait to be seated and another ~30 mins til we got our food, though they were admittedly very busy. The staff were super friendly, but they all seemed very rushed. Noticed a lot of empty tables waiting to simply be cleaned, while a lot of hungry patrons waited outside. The wait was worth it though, because the food was absolutely delicious! My dad and I got the seafood platter for 2, and we werent let down. Very tasty! Overall, better management and more staff would go a long way.
The catfish filets were good and plentiful. Id say you get your moneys worth. However, as cheap as grits are, you only get what seems to be a half a cup if you order grits for your side. Its Georgia. I love grits. I would have liked at least a good cupful. I mostly gave them a 3 because service was slow and the food came to the table mediocre warm. I guess maybe the season is ending. I thought it would be something to write home about but it wasnt.
The people are wonderful down home style. However, the catfish are so small we were very disappointed. We have been here 3 times before several years ago and the fish were the normal size 12 inch or so great fish. I asked the sever and cashier why they were so small and both said that has been the size the last year. We are talking 6 inch fish with little meat to eat. We also ordered oysters, clam strips, stuffed crab, hush puppies, shrimp. scallops, sweet potatoes, fries, the salad bar and sweet potato fries among the 4 of us. We thought they were fine and we will come back when we stay at Reed Bingham state park. I would say 4 stars if the catfish were normal size. The restaurant has catfish in the name so we expect them to be great or the server should be told to tell customers the situation before they order. Lastly, the house wine is budget wine and priced at $7.50 per glass. All other menu items are very reasonable. Hope you visit the place and have a nice time. Great family atmosphere.
THE food was good to the size is not as large as it was just a few years ago. I guess that can be said about most of the more expensive places. The service was great. But when I went to pay with my card it offers you a choice for the tip. On the receipt it also shows you what each % equals but it took more than the receipt had shown for the one I chose, granted it was .60 but it was my choice and I felt I was mislead. People should always check the receipt.
Ive been here a few times now, and dont know why I returned after the first trip. I guess I like to give places more than one chance, in case one experience is not indicative of how they are under normal circumstances. The food is not worth the price. The service is lacking and it is usually very busy. It is so loud in some areas that you cant even hold a conversation at your own table. The last table I sat at was unstable. It rocked back and forth and upon telling the server, she offered to pack napkins under it. I eventually fixed it myself with one of the horeshoes from the decor surrounding my table.Bland food, poor service, annoyingly loud, broken tables and high priced. Yeah... next time, Ill pass.
We were disappointed in the size and taste of the catfish fillets. I asked the server if they were fillets or gingers and we were told they were good sized. They were almost the size of catfish fingers and tasted like they were leftovers warmed up. The French fries were mostly small and appeared to be what was left in the bottom of the bag. The shrimp, Cole slaw and hushpuppies were very good as was the service.
The only thing I can say is they have good pickles. Took the family out for dinner and it was my first and last visit. Sat there for an hour and no food. Ordered gator bites and I would have sworn it was chicken. Next time I will just go to Rays millpond for catfish. Total disappointment.
There was a considerable wait but we had a large party so it was expected. We placed our orders and the waitress came back multiple times to tell us they were out of something. Not only were they out of the main items on a dish (tilapia) but the sides as well. One of our party was not told they were out of something they ordered until everyone was getting their food. Other waitresses would graciously refill our drinks and check on us when our waitress was missing for awhile. Our receipt was also wrong and not updated due to all the ordered food that we did not get and had to be changed. Not a bad experience but not the best one.
Several of us decided to go to the restaurant and enjoy a good meal. The hostess seated us in a large dining room and we ordered and the flies were so bad they were all over the salad we were trying to eat. The dining room had to be at least 90 degrees as sweat was dripping off my forehead on the food and the flies were all over the food. The server brought out tea and it looked like colored water that was hot and had no ice in the glasses or the tea pitcher,Asked for the manager and she came over and we told her we could not eat for all the flies and the temperature was so hot in there we could not stop sweating and eat our meal in comfortI would have thought the manager would have offered to move us to another dining area where it was cool and maybe less flies but her solution was to tell us the AC was fixed the previous day so I guess we did not know what we talking about. She said she was going to take the cost of the appetizer and colored water they called tea off. We asked if we could have carry out Box for the food. When you go out and spend over a $100.00 for a meal you expect to have a nice meal and dine in comfort no sweating and fighting off the flies for your food. Charles Seafood in Tifton Ga. has much better tasting seafood and prices are more reasonable than the Catfish House in Adel Ga.and you do no have to compete with the flies for your food and you can dine in the cool.
I had fried oysters, slaw and fries. The oysters were large, over battered and overcooked. Not what I expected. The sides were good.My friends had the seafood platter. Tha shrimp, fish and the oysters were over cooked.Told the staff the seafood would be better if not cooked well done!
Very nice restaurant... Funny though when we moved up here from Tampa Florida, my fiance wouldnt eat here for 3 years, because she thought they only sold catfish after all it is the name of the restraunt. I drug her there anyway after the 3 years. No way, they didnt even have any catfish on the menu, and if they did we couldnt find any. Awesome seafood, very delicious. Since then weve been back 5 times. A little on the pricy side, but well worth it. Goes back to the saying You pay for what you get. I recommend any passer bys or residents of this area to try out this one of a kind. Oh yeah, dont let the name fool ya.

2021-08-27This was my first visit, I arrived about 45 mins to closing time and ordered the half order of Catfish filets. I was served with sweet pickles before my new came and let me tell ya they were out of this world good. The catfish was just what I was looking for, crispy crunchy and exploding with flavor. Now the home made coleslaw was just like grandma makes and to top it off I added cheese grits my favorite side item ever!!

2022-04-09Tonight my wife and I went to dinner here for the first time on a whim. This is a very well ran Christian establishment, Our wait time was minimal, our food was incredible, my wife choose a side of yellow squash with zucchini in a parmesan cheese sauce that was beyond delicious, our server was out standing and we have not enjoyed an evening together in a while. Thank you so much for a wonderful dinner. I highly recommend this place and God Bless you all.

2022-03-07To the Irvingβs whom said they were of color. What does that have to do with the great food and service here . First of all your not colored your black. With an attitude a color is a box of crayons. With that said . Like Rodney king said why canβt we just get along. We ate there Saturday all. Was great the owner checked on all tables himself. Food was great, service was awesome. Again I am not trying to be rude but your race card does not work any more. Sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder, company5 is a true god fearing co.
