It’s a pretty good lunch spot. 7 dollars gets you an entree, often over bed of rice, with two sides and drink. Some entrees are rotated (if you wanted turkey and dressing on a day not Thanksgiving, you’ll have good luck, but it’s only on selected days), while others (country fried steak with gravy is my go-to) is available all days.Haven’t been here for breakfast, but they serve that as well.Good food on the cheap. If you like southern cafeteria food, I recommend it.
Meh...I was super hungry and it was filling... thats about it. I had the chicken pot pie, cabbage and roasted veggies. Chicken pot pie had the chicken skin, gristle and cartilage in it, which made for a gross texture but the rest of the food was good. Nothing to write home about and I probably wouldnt visit again. Good price point for what you get.
We just moved nearby and I ran in one night when my son was home sick. They let me buy just some chicken soup and explained the low price for a full buffet. I took my son back when he was well, and I think he ate for about an hour straight. :) The staff was so nice, once again. Im a vegetarian and my son eats meat, and its always good to find a place where we can both find plenty that we like. The desserts are good, if you still have room after the buffet. Weve been back a few times now. Good food, great price & service. Would definitely recommend.
Fast service, lunch buffet, great price.I ate the beef tips and rice, greens, and mashed potatoes with gravy. The beef tips and rice is very delicious and filled with vegetables. I really enjoyed it and they give you a great serving. The greens and mashed potatoes were also good. I will more than likely eat here again.
Utilitarian cafeteria-style restaurant. This place has plastic ware, cheap tables and you get to throw the way your trash when youre done. Its busy with hungry, workmen that are looking to get a home cook meal a good price. It has five or six choices of meat and seven or eight choices of vegetables with some cakes. I had dark meat chicken with greens, black-eyed peas and a drink. I could never take my wife here, but it was well worth the $7.
Good soul food and the atmosphere is very laid back. Theres a steady stream of people that comes in all day but theres plenty of space to accommodate. You would think that it would be really noisy from the crowd but everyone keeps to themselves. I guess its the food calms the soul. Lol.
I have been eating a Donnies 4/2 years every week. At least 4 times a week there and never get tired of it. For $6.50 which includes your drink you get a meat and two vegetables. I give this a great reading its an easy place to get in and out of and the food is always prepared good and everybody there is very friendly. So if you expect to go to a fancy-dancy restaurant thats not Donnies. Donnies is a good country cooking place with nice people and a great price. Hope to see you there. The traveling trainer!
HORRIBLE! Food and service is NOT the same. Came shortly after lunch hour and the meat available was scarce and not fresh. Pork chops I ordered were hard and cold. They were not cooperative in switching my meat. When I asked if there was any meat coming out fresh I was told no and was given the last of the same old pork chops. They then brought out a fresh batch of prok chops 5 minutes later. 🙄
Omg i had the bake chicken the other day boi it was perfect absolutely delicious and there mac n cheese make me never want my mom mac n cheese along with the cabbage it was cooked just right honestly no flex i tried going back 2day 😢but they was closed but I will be there Monday
The food is so good I wi ll pay 7.00 for good food to fulfil my stomach . They are very polite and u dont have to wait in long line for food that fried and full of grease. I would tell anybody about this place and how good their food is. Their cabbage delightful and I love it
Me and the hubby used to come here every other day when we first met. It brings back memories... Lunch was good.they went up ok prices but what place hasnt.. like that I can pick my entree and side.. breakfast still bomb I live on other side of town so I cant come as often as Id like.
If youre indiscriminate about how the restaurant looks youll find Donnies to be a decent location for a quick snack. The location appears to be frequented by the blue collar sec looking for a quick bite on a tight budget. So if you match that description, youll likely give this location five stars. If youre expecting comfort, a high degree of quality or a place to take a date. Youll be sorely disappointed.
Ordered a plate with some beans and they were not cooked all the way and to make matters worse the owner was very rude and felt like he had to get loud with me all because i have a certain diet and brought my own food...he didnt tell me as comming in but AFTER i paid and finished eating he lets me know we arent welcomed there all for bringing outside food. Now mind you i paid for food from there as well. He could of gone a different way but was very rude loud and obnoxious. Never again, i dont like dealing with people or places that dont take my dollar into consideration. I still told him i will pay for another drink i gave him $2 walked away with them and didnt expect to give me my change back i had to sit there and ask the cashier how much drinks were to be told a $1. Took my change and my cup and had to call him from the back to let him see you dont talk to clients that way. Never again
Mediocre. VERY. I should have known when I saw Asian ppl cooking soul food smh. Lots of brown specks in the Sprite, not sure about other drinks, lady kept bringing it back with more specks. My husband had a coke and drank it blah. Cabbage and peas tasteless. Mac is oddly SUPER orange colored. Country fried steak was ok. Chicken tenders from school lunch. Yeah its a no for me dog.
I work in a near by office and Donnies has saved me several times. This is my go to restaurant when I am pressed for time and cant prepare a home cooked meal. I appreciate that the service is fast and the food is hot (and homey). Only thing that would make this place better would be if they delivered.
Going through the line and at the end theres a cash register with Chi Chi Chong who will reach in your back pocket to get you money there so eager to get that dollar bill.....they so money hungry........needs to be more comfortable ........Mr. and Mrs. Chong are not hospitable people......need A/C in place.

2022-03-11This is not southern cooking. Food absolutely lacks seasoning. Fried pork chop was fried in corn meal with no seasoning, the candied yams tasted like apples, the macaroni again, no seasoning tasted just like cheese. Do not waste your money.

2018-04-26Donnie has now retired and breakfast/lunch are not the same. This used to be one of my favorite places for breakfast. When I stopped in today, I thought to myself it sure is a ghost town considering its usually busy with retirees, police, and crews from various companies. As I waited for my food, I watched the one gentleman that was there POUR salt on his food. When I received my food I understood why. The home fries and eggs had no flavor. Donnie did not use a lot of salt etc, however, depending on your dietary needs there was always enough seasoning to the food that you only needed to add a little or none at all. The other difference is that Donnie would put the eggs in the large compartment and the home fries in the smaller compartments. This may sound picky, however, the portion of eggs is small in comparison to the amount of home fries you are receiving. Id rather have more eggs than potatoes.A co-worker told me lunch was not the same either. The servings were slim.Donnies is a place that you could once go to and get a good breakfast/lunch for a great price. To top it off, when I received my food it was handed to me and then she turned around and started talking to the people in the kitchen. No thank you, no have a good day, no bye.....nothing!I will not be going back to Donnies and I am sure they are going to loose a lot of faithful customers if they do not return to the Donnies standard we all know and loved.

2020-09-01Good food but its the same 6 choices everyday for an entree: quarter chicken baked, fried fish, chicken pot pie, country fried steak, chicken tenders, and barbeque pork. Each can be served over rice with a choice of two sides which usually includes, fried okra, Mac n cheese, sweet potato souffle, green beans, mashed potatoes, zucchini squash or peach cobbler (yummy!!) You can also get a veggie plate with your choice of 4 veggies and both meat and veggie entrees come with bread and a beverage. This used to be a great deal before the price went up recently. Now its just average. The hours are really odd too as they close at 6 pm every night that theyre open and closed on Sundays
