I didn’t like my experience at this hair salon. I came here because my coworker told me it was a great place. She did haircut and highlights. So I decided to give it a try, even though this place it’s 30 minutes away for me, I liked the fact that they open on Sundays. The place it’s nice and I was desperate looking for a good salon since I had a bad experience before. So I’m trying to fix my hair but once again I got disappointed. I asked to do a single process color but I change my mind, so I showed some pictures to the hairstylist on how I wanted the hair color. I also asked to do a haircut which I really liked it because she took volume hair instead of just making shorter. But the color was completely off. The hair color didn’t look like any of the photos I showed the hairdresser. So of course I asked to re do it again and so I got a darker brown roots with the color I got in the beginning. Of course I had to pay extra money to get it fix which I don’t really agree but okay. At the end I didn’t like it. I was there for 4 hours so I couldn’t stay there any longer, and also for the sake of my hair which it got really damage from the discoloration and the re coloration. The prices are reasonable knowing that I paid extra money to get my hair fix (but not really fix). The haircut was good but I would not recommended the process coloring.
My last hair appointment at Birch Salon in Winder was a complete nightmare, my hair was so bad I hated to look in a mirror. And then I met Summer! Her sweet smile and soft voice put me at ease immediately. With her expert skill she transformed my whole look. I couldn’t stop smiling, my kids took one look at me and said “mom you’re back”. Kids just say it how they see it lol 😊.Thank you Summer and Sunny for making my day!
Summer took such good care of my hair. She left it so soft and healthy and provided excellent service. She really cared about the well-being of my hair. 10/10 would recommend!

I was in need of a new salon to get my hair cut as I was not satisfied at my previous salon. I found this salon online and trusted the reviews. I came as a walk-in and was treated very well. Jay cut my hair and did a wonderful job. The prices are very fair as well. I will be back for sure!
Really happy I came here and got balayage from summer. Super sweet and my hair is super pretty! Before it was my natural hair color which to me was boring, all black. But now it’s so gorgeous thanks to summer!

Went in for highlights and left with darker hair. Horrible! Then went out of her way to tell me to add a tip. Didn’t want tip because of the horrible experience. Also was charged way too much. Don’t go. And in the reply she said I never said it was a hairpiece…..I said it over the phone and when I got there. I said several times I lost my hair in chemo. But the worst part was insisting on a tip which is pure unprofessional. And $150 for partial highlights is crazy. Nevertheless, I went to another salon and got exactly what I wanted for half the price. Most stylists can color a wig as you love pointing out that it was a wig. Hope you never loose your hair from chemo.
First time coming here and my experience was great. Summer took care of me and gave me a beautiful hair cut. She was very sweet and I will come back to her everytime. ♥
I wanted to dye my hair platinum blonde with dark shadow root but the color comes out metallic Grey mixed with blonde. The worst part is the color still stick onto my skin. I felt like I was being rushed. The lady asked if I was satisfied and of course, I said no. She said my hair color will lighten up after a few days but I highly doubt that from the look of it. I paid 250 plus 50 tips so $300 for something I could do at home.I came here because of the good reviews but after my experience, I am not coming back.

Summer is quick with her hands but makes your hair look flawless. I got a Magic Setting Perm and it looks so natural and clean. She also did a great job with keeping it look healthy ♥️

Zero star. negative star. the owner kelly (also goes by SUMMER) is the worst. came in to get my lashes filled not by kelly but the lash studio owned by mikki. no affiliation with emily j. yet kelly came in screaming at me telling me to leave her facility. i did nothing to her except walk across to get my lashes done. kelly does not even have a cosmetology license!! nor business license!! she is also a scammer and has lost all of her clientele due to her attitude and standard of service. my friend who used to work here had to leave due to discrimination and bad working conditions after new ownership change. DO NOT LOOK AT THE OLD REVIEWS. THEY ARE NOT ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF THE CURRENT EMILY J UNDER HER OWNERSHIP. please save yourself and your money!! all the hair dressers are older and not up to current style or standard. Terrible experience after spending 320$ for perm i would never visit again. I dont know what she did but scalp became very ichy with dandruff after that treatment and i can see color is all gone in one weekReally someone is saying that i dont know how to takecare of my hair??? Please refund my money if you can and also she was saying that indians don’t understand and she was abusing in her language obviously i dont know her language can you treat everyone as equal here i dont think so ….. you made my hair soft and curly its a big joke
I went to the salon having read the positive reviews and was excited to check it out! Everyone was super nice, but at first, the communication was off and resulted in something I didnt like. I was looking for something to lighten my hair a little, and they ended up bleaching it. Ive never had my hair bleached before, so I didnt know that was what was happening before it was too late. Additionally, I was there for three and a half hours, but they seemed like they were doing their best to keep up with everyone there. Lastly, I paid much more than I thought I was going to, almost double. All that being said, I went back the next day and expressed my concern and it was rectified immediately, which I really appreciated.Overall, I would say that the communication was the biggest thing lacking. If they had communicated the process of what they were planning on doing prior, I think I could have avoided a lot of extra time and effort on their part. They are talented stylists, who definitely know what theyre doing, but you definitely need to clarify what you want.
Got my haircut today and Summer did a fantastic job. I am probably the pickiest customer that ever lived when it comes to hair but I was surprisingly satisfied with the final result. Tried many salons in the area in the past but have been traumatized and as a result I got my haircut maybe only once a year but I have renewed hope after today. Highly recommend and highly satisfied. Will definitely be going back!
Summer is the new owner here and she’s always been my favorite stylish. I’ve been getting my hair done by her for almost 2 years and she never lets me down once. She’s been doing hair for many decades and really professional. She experts in both men and women hair. I took like 10 of my friends there already and they satisfy every time. If you are looking for a professional service and great attitude, this hair salon is definitely a perfect choice. You won’t regret !!!
We came into the store looking to dye my hair. Atter paying over $200, after a week the dye comes out too quickly. We came back up there to get it fixed and they basically ruined my hair completely. Not to mention they said they can a do it perfectly. Do not come here to dye your hair. They mess it up completely.
Terrible experience. I booked it a haircut and color but left after my haircut. She sat me down and asked about 2 questions and started to just cut on dry unparted hair. There was no question about how much I wanted off or what style, has I not mentioned it who knows what I would have walked out with. After this terrible cut where she spend 20 minutes tugging my hair, using thinning sheers and point cutting I decide I don’t trust her doing my color. I tell her I’m all set from here and she charges me $50 for a dry cut no style. I looked at the website and it clearly states wash/style and blow dry starts from $35+ and she tells me wash and cuts start at $60. I feel like I just got scammed and j would never recommend this unless you want a mystery haircut.

I come here for my haircuts about once a month. My stylist Summer is fun to talk to, and shes had years of experience cutting hair. I bring her pictures of the style I want, and the result has always been something even better. I would highly recommend this salon.
Summer is the only hairstylist there right now and shes so sweet! I scheduled a last minute haircut the day before and fit me in. It was only a trim, but she made me feel comfortable since it was my first time. Other people might says theres roaches and rats but theyre just mad they cant get an appointment in. Shes the only girl left and Im so happy she could fit a quick cut in! Ill be coming definitely be coming back

I used this hairsalone for japenese straighting on august 10 after 3 days i washed my hair and they were exactly like before I went there again in august 14 with complaint,she did my hair again and assured me this time it’s gonna be permanent straight,I spent again 4 hours there,I washed my hair 4 days after and again same thing,not a 5 percent difference ..I took good care after treatment both times but I think these guys don’t have good products or right techniques for straight hair,i wasted my $400 and 8 hours and just let them put wrong chemicals in my head.i will say just pay more money and have your hair done at some good place please.i posted my pics before treatment,during treatment,right after treatment and after a week where u can see my hair are not straight at all even i had them blow dry that day..this is not japenese treatment at all.

Clean and beautiful professional hair salon with very friendly staff. The owner exceeded my expectations! She gave me exactly I wanted. My hair got so much damage from the bleaching and was worried what if my hairs all burned out. She was excellent and my hair looks healthy and feels so much better now.

I asked for a line bob, and just got a bob with hair drying wizardry to get it a shape. Reference picture and concerns were ignored. Have been here multiple times, but will not return. Very upset!!

I have been seeing Summer for a few years. She was previously at another hair salon and now she operates at Emily J. She has been wonderful and very professional. Didn’t even let me pick the hair I wanted ! Made my hair look very choppy and highlights took forever. My bangs are very uneven and don’t even look close to the picture I wanted. I had to pay about $200 for that.
I had a haircut here for the first time and Emily was fantastic. She took her time and was very meticulous. She was also super nice and friendly. Highly recommended! Definitely will be back. =)

I had hair color and straightening absolutley fabulouse! 💖The salon is always clean and welcoming and their COVID protocols are top notchalways have the best experience!! Friendly staff. Stylists listen to their clients. There are always promotions going on, so is relatively affordable.

I LOVE this salon! I have been going to Emily J Aveda Salon in Duluth for about two years and have been impressed by the service and quality every time. They always offer a beverage while you wait and are very prompt with appointments! Louie has cut and styled my hair to perfection and has handled everything from bleaching and dying my hair purple to cutting several inches and styling my hair into long bobs and angled bobs. Louie is a phenomenal stylist and has even cut clip on extensions for me so that they’d blend better with my hair for my wedding. I don’t trust anyone else to do my hair! Highly recommend this salon and Louie especially for all of your hair styling needs! Hoping to be back soon for another drastic color change!
I called a day ahead of my service to make my appointment. Bella answered my call and scheduled me right away even they’re almost completely booked. She’s very kind and friendly. Today I went to get my haircut. Summer and Bella both greeted me and I received coffee while I wait until my appointment time. Summer understand my needs and did my hair perfect. I do really like how Summer curled my hair. I highly recommended this place and definitely will return for my next salon visits.

Terribly unprofessional! I called to make an appointment as a new client and requested a master or director level experienced stylist. They said OK we will put you with Louie who is a master stylist. I inquired about the price and she said he will go over all of that with you prior to starting any service. I show up on Saturday at 3:30 after planning my whole day around this appointment and they sit me down with someone who I immediately know is not Louie.After I ask, she tells me her name and that she is a designer level stylist. I also had to ask about the pricing because no one offered to tell me first. No one could explain to me why they changed my appointment with Louie and Louie was in the salon without a client. I politely explained I requested someone with master or director level experience and they ended up telling me I should reschedule with the director.If you are used to a professional salon I would not recommend going here.
Extremely expensive for a low quality service. I am telling all my friends, Neighbbour and family not to go there. First the stylist kept in telling me how much extra each service is. I felt like I was in a car dealership. Nevertheless I was there so I agreed to all the additional charges. That was not the issue. The issue was that they completely damaged my hair and was left with lots of split ends and uneven strikes of highlights. When I called back they did offer to fix it. They wanted to cut it first which I did not want to do as I did not trust them anymore. They did a tone up which only turned my hair darker leaving with the same damaged hair. The owner did not even apologize but said. “Maybe Aveda is not a good product for your hair”. Well maybe she is right a $4 color box is a better product for my hair and most likely any cheaper Salon is a better salon for my hair. Don’t go there.
If I can give a 0 star, I would. I Made the reservation at 6:30. They never greeted me and I was sitting till 7:00, it ruin my meeting for later of the day. At the end the haircut didn’t even happen. Terrible services and experience.
I have been coming to Emily J since moving to Atlanta, and I can’t say enough good things about the service and quality of this salon. I highly recommend Ira. She has tried a couple new things on me (mostly color related), and I’ve never had so many compliments on my hair. I don’t bring any ideas to my appointments- I let her choose for me, and each change she’s made only gets better and better. Ira also makes the appointments fun and takes time to get to know her guests. Each time I see her she remembers what we talked about during the last appointment. Every member of the team here greets me warmly and makes me feel welcomed.

Beware, they offer money off if you give them 5 stars on Google or Yelp before you leave the salon. Thinking they were a really great salon and great stylist by the number of 5 star reviews, I went there to see Shann who practically ruined my hair. It cost $200 to get a mono tone dried out frizzy look and the absolutely hideous hair cut that was $50 of the $200! I came in for a consult but didnt think I was getting it done then. He said so are you ready and I questioned if he had the time to do it and he said yes. Then another girl came over and told him he needed to check his book because he was over booked. He rushed me through and pawned me off on someone else. It was so awful I went to another salon on Monday and had it completely redone for another $200 but it was worth every penny. On the haircut, two different stylist looked at it and said it was really jacked up and had to cut a lot off to look halfway good but it still couldnt be fixed because I would have had to have cut off most of the length. Dont waste you money! Look elsewhere!
Im very satisfied with my new haircut and style I had from Emily J. Soo took good care of me and suggested me a better style that fits my look. She is really nice and knowledgeable of hair health and styling. I could tell that she is very experienced and skilled from the way she handled customers with different needs. I would definitely go back whenever I want to change my hairstyle.
I had my haircut by a young man, sorry I cant remember his name!! He did a good job & it was more affordable than my usual salon. It did seem to take a lot longer than w/ my usual stylist. I showed him a picture of my last cut as an example but, he didnt get it as short as I wanted. I think he was nervous about cutting it too short or something because I kept telling him to go a bit shorter but, we never got quite there. He was very nice & I was happy w/ the cut for the price I paid!! On a side note, the salon has a weird smell but, I will say I have a very sensitive nose.
Great service and hairstyle! I got hair coloring and haircut done today. Louie did a great job! Hes very caring and careful for your hair too. I would definitely recommend Louie. He could make your hair look so natural and pretty.

Ive been getting my haircut at this location for several years now, and Ive never had a bad experience. The ownership has changed recently, but the quality of the service is as good as ever.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. THEY ARE EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE AF. If I could give them -10 stars, I would. My wedding was this past Saturday (2/4) and I booked Emily J to do my mother, my mother in law, and my sister in laws hair and make up. I was really horrified when I heard how badly they were treated.First of all, I called about 5 times to confirm my appointments and to make sure that they would have hair extensions available for the mothers. Each time they confirmed the time (12:00pm) and that they had hair extensions they could use for extra charge. The day before the appointment, I get a confirmation call from them and tell me theyll see my guests at 1:00pm. When I corrected them, they just said No, Im sorry, its at 1:00pm... Umm, okay. We had already planned a schedule for the day and we had to shuffle around transportation and everything because their incompetent receptionists and system had changed the time on us.Second of all, when they arrived, they made my sister in law wait 30 minutes when they told her it would only be 5 minutes. Do they not understand that on a wedding day, everything is time sensitive? She had to leave because she obviously had other things to do.When the mothers arrived, they told them that they didnt have any hair extensions and that they had to go out to buy them. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?? They have signs in the salon to ask for extensions because they have them available!!! NOT ONLY THAT, I CALLED TO CONFIRM!!! It was too late to find and book another salon, so they had to go and get their extensions, and Emily J had the audacity to charge them extra for them. My mother in law asked the make up artist to do her make up very lightly, but the lady completely ignored her multiple requests and just kept putting on more and more make up. When we met at the hotel, she was asking how she could remove some of the make up.I cant say this enough. THEY ARE UTTERLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE. I told everyone I know, and my mother told all of her friends to NEVER, NEVER set foot in this salon.
Probably one of the best salons Ive ever been to.I live in Savannah, Georgia, and I drive four hours to get to Emily J Aveda salon to get my haircuts, so that should say a lot. My hair designer, Soo, is extremely proficient in what she does. They used the UFO thingy for scalp cleansing, which feels really good. Great place.
Don’t believe the comments saying Summers service is terrible or that there are cockroaches. I’ve been going to Summer for a long time now and not once has she been unprofessional or mean. These 1 star reviews that seem to conveniently all come at the exact same time are all untrue.

I rarely trust anyone with my hair and because of that, I had not had my hair cut in over a year. I put my complete trust in Shann and he did an amazing cut and color for me. It has been 3 weeks now with my new look... Im still getting tons of compliments and loving it !!!
Ive been to Emily J Aveda Salon a few times, most of the time with only a vague idea of what I want, and they always do a fantastic job. I saw another review on here that says they offer money off for good reviews, but Ive never experienced that. They do a great job, and theyve always been very friendly and accommodating.
Went to Emily J for a simple mens haircut and it was amazing. Soo took care of me and made me feel like I was in a spa. The Aveda products they used made my scalp feel incredible. Overall great experience, no other place compares

I initially came in just asking for a price for color and haircut, but ended up actually walking out getting both done by Shann. He was completely amazing and listened to what I wanted and took the time to explain any doubts or questions I had about the process. The finish product was better than what I was hoping for, not to mention to outstanding service I received!
Employees strive to do their best work but owner/management ruin the whole business. Skillful hair artists left because the owner treated them like slaves. Not worth a dime to go here.

Not a good choice
Got a root touch up for $100 . It’s a joke, way over priced. Color was left on forehead, no use of conditioner or any serums for hair styling.
The bosses are so kind and they cut their hair well. The store is big and clean, so I cut my hair from afar and come back with satisfaction. I am 100% willing to visit again!!
Mr. Grace is the best. After dyeing and perming in another place, he healed my damaged hair well. Also, I recently had a perm and cut, and it was so pretty and I liked it. I recommend Grace, who is kind and talented.
I walk in today this place first time and Summer did hair color and cut.She colored on my forehead I tried to wash off it was difficult to wash it off when I came home.When she cut my hair didnt not give much attention on cutting my hair rather was very rude speaking with me.It wasnt worth money.I should read this raiding before I stepping this place. I found one complaining same matter with picture.My friend so upset that the way they treated me. No respect.I should have read this page before going here, but I regret it a lot.Someone else went through the same thing as me, so I posted it with a picture.What I dont understand is that I dont understand how you can dye your face like that.Ive never experienced anything like this in my entire life.What Im looking for is a beauty salon where the pros are careful not to touch their skin as much as possible.And hes so rude and rude while talking~It was the persons service that didnt feel professional at all.
Even though I have semi-curly and thick hair, it was really nice and the hair came out just the way I wanted it, so it felt good. The manager is very pleasant and everyone is friendly!
I did my hair, and the price was reasonable and it was okay~The boss has changed. Its kind and nice.

2022-03-31I highly recommend this place! the staff is super nice. Summer did an awesome job coloring my hair and Grace also did an awesome job styling and trimming my hair and the price is affordable and it’s great work. Very professional. Super happy on how my hair turned out.

2022-08-24My Son and I frequent this salon. The salon is kept clean and organized. Everyone who works there is super friendly and accommodating to all of their customers. Summer is very funny and has amazing skills. My son, who is 17, wouldnt go anywhere else for his hair coloring and highlighting. Even when it’s super busy they take their time! They did an amazing job for me and my son at a reasonable price. I am very pleased with my visit!

2022-09-09I have thin, wavy hair. I was a bit anxious getting my haircut but summer and the hairstylist who straightened my hair did an amazing job. Very gentle and detail oriented. They also gave me a very generous deal on their shampoo. Summer is very kind and sweet. I’m so happy with my hair. ☺️

2022-08-05They know what they do with hair. I like also their friendliness and humor while they treat hair. It is not boring but pleasant to have hair cut by them. This is important for me. Even though I easily get sleep while they touch my hair.I recommended the shop to my wife. She wanted to find a better-looking style. She had J and he advised her for style and care. She also did perm. She is satisfied with her hair now. I also like it. And what she more liked was their advice how to make her hair healthier. Thank you, Kyung and J.

2022-05-25My mother has always been my hair salon go to for styling and cuts ever since I was born. Not because she’s my mother but because she’s a licensed hair specialist! With that being said, I believe this place offered services that matched and honestly, went above and beyond what my mother could do.The efficiency and meticulous techniques used to fade my hair and evenly make my unruly hair more symmetrical was truly a work of art. The team worked together flawlessly to make every guest coming in for service feel like we are their top priority.Not to mention… our appointment was at 5:30. We were an hour late and they still took us in!

2022-02-25Hands down to the best hair salon in Duluth. It is my first time at this place, and I had a great experience. I am usually petty about where to go get my hair done and I usually stick with only one salon. I did not regret my decision of driving 2 hours to here, just for this. The staff members were really nice, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I highly recommend this place, and the price is affordable and worth it.

2022-03-20Moved recently from Maryland and it was difficult finding someone who can cut my hair like my old stylist. Fortunately, I was able to find Summer and Team. Highly skilled group and so nice! I showed a photo of my old hair cut and they were able to replicate it perfectly and even added their personal touch to make it even better! Will be a customer while I’m in Georgia.
