Such a beautiful facility with great staff and volunteers. We volunteer as socializers and help specific cats to adjust to their environment and trust people in hopes of being adopted. Love FurKids and whare t theyre doing for the rescue animal community. This location has 6 cat rooms upstairs and younger kitten rooms downstairs. Reach out and participate in an orientation if you want to volunteer. Its very rewarding. My teen daughter and I both volunteer.
I adopted my kitten from Furkids. Their process is in-depth, you will need to do an application, and your vet will be contacted. I know many are discourage by this process, but I believe it does keep people from making hasty decisions. Pets are a long-term commitment, and during my search for a kitten I came across many cats returned to shelters because they found they didnt have time for a cat or they are moving. Maybe a few will be discourage by this process, and maybe that is in the best interest of the cat.
What an amazing rescue center! We came here to look at adopting a cat and ended up hanging out for a bit. They had more kittens than we expected! Of course they are the most playful as you are walking around, but they also had plenty of space for the adult cats upstairs! Fun area as they could roam outside on a gated patio. Staff was open and very friendly even tho we picked the day for vaccinations and chipping... they were pretty busy. I hope to come back and possibly volunteer here once in a while! Love the atmosphere and so glad you have so many helpful hands! Thank you for all you do!In response from Talley, I actually put in a volunteer application 8 months ago when I wrote this review and never heard back.
Don’t listen to that other review! Everyone at Fur Kids loves these Kitties! They are nothing but warm and loving. If a kitten or cat is ill they make sure to get it the care that it needs. Their commitment to the animals and the community that they are fostering truly is a blessing! Our family is complete now, thank you Fur Kids!
This is one of the most awesome animal adoption agencies in all of Georgia. Not only are they no kill no cage but the owner truly cares about all the animals. They have over 600 cats for adoption and hundreds of dogs. If you or anyone you know are looking to adopt your next best friend you need to come visit their facility or give them a call. They are also very active on social media so you can always reach them on Facebook Twitter and Instagram. I give them five stars!
Dear FurKids,I just wanted to let you know how much we are thankful for allowing us to adopt Oliver (you all knew him as Doc Holiday). He is so sweet and loving. After having to put down our 18y old dog, I thought I wouldn’t be able to fill the heart sized hole our Fred left behind. Although we will never replace Fred, Oliver has warmed our hearts and filled our lives with laughter and happiness again. We are so happy. We recently took him for a check up, and the vet said he is in excellent health. We really love FurKids and appreciate all the care you give to your adoptable pets. We will continue to recommend you even on this side of town in West Cobb, Marietta. It was worth the drive! 😃
Kitty cat heaven!Super cool people, top to bottom.Cant say enough good things about them and the organization. My wife and I have had several interactions with them... Saving a mother cat that was dumped and had to live outdoors for at least a few years that we know of & her three most recent kittens. They are so good with them & will gladly show you around. A+++++
We adopted our little tuxedo girl Cleo (formerly Caroline Bouvier) a couple of months ago and we couldnt be happier. She is SUCH a sweetheart, loves cuddles and playing with ping pong balls and strings. It took a little while for our other kitty to warm up to her but now they are the best of friends. The adoption process was a breeze for us - basically had to agree to get her fixed, keep her indoors and not to declaw her which we wouldnt have done anyway. We were also glad to get a discount on the fee as my husband is a veteran. Overall a great experience with Fur Kids and would definitely recommend them!
We had a great experience here! They are a top notch shelter, take amazing care of the animals, and we found this lovely little kitten named Patch who is just perfect for us! Everyone was helpful and so knowledgeable, and made our experience amazing. These people are doing such good work! Please give Furkids a visit! It will be so worth it!
Staff was friendly but they lied about the condition of the male cat we adopted. They stated that he had some GI issues (diarrhea) but that it was completely resolved with antibiotics. However it was not resolved. He has now had diarrhea for 3 straight weeks. Now we’re already 500$ into what is now a lifelong treatment course to help resolve his potential GI cancer or Inflammatory bowel disease. Definitely felt mislead into thinking that his condition could be managed with diet. Not to mention that they didn’t tell us our cat also had an eye infection.
My husband and I are proud parents of Blaze, a rescue we adopted from FurKids. He was meant to be a companion for a rescue we had gotten from another location and he has now stolen our heart as well! The lady who facilitated our adoption was great and very helpful in locating those who fit our needs. Every volunteer we encountered was kind and helpful. They take great care of the animals there.
I sent an email requesting help with some kittens who lived on the street, they responded kindly the same day, they gave me an appointment to take them. The place is wonderful! The lady who attended me was very kind. I will return to help with the cleaning of the place and to give love to the animals that are there. I am very grateful that you help save the lives of these beautiful babies.
My roommate and I recently got 2 kittens from here, everyone I spoke to was very friendly and the process was fairly quick (not counting the 2+ hours we spent going into the different rooms meeting the cats). They are a bit slow to email back depending on time of day and how busy they are, and we did get faster responses from their Facebook page for general questions.
Furkids is a no kill shelter that provides a home and care for the rest of the animals lives. They also allow adoptions of cats and dogs. You cant go wrong adopting from them. They need donations, however, they also have thrift stores to help raise money. You can also take your goods to their thrift stores. Give them a chance and support them.
The staff and volunteers are very nice. They work with you to make sure you find the perfect companion. Youll have to book an appointment to meet any of the animals in care. Some of them are in foster care. When you adopt a pet, they give some food, ball and some gloves too. Was a great experience!
There was a cat that I wanted from another foundation that treated me terribly through the whole process. While searching I fell in love with the profile of Duckie (now named Aspara-Gus) through Furkids. I addressed the concerns that the other foundation had (even considered minor and ridiculous by the foster working with the foundation of the other cat) and was open and honest through the whole application and adoption process. I had a hole in my heart for a boy tuxedo cat since my last cat passed and Duckie fit the description of the boy that would fit well in my home. I was able to adopt Duckie with no problems. They were thorough and caring and I loved visiting the other adoptable cats as well. Duckie (Gus) is now super happy in his new home with us and we are overjoyed having him here. Thank you Furkids for believing in me and your understanding!
Lots of different kinds of cats, the people seem to care and take good care of the cats. Many cats havetemperment descriptions which is helpful when adopting. My volunteer experience was poor though. Either they poorly planned my training and volunteer position placement only to make that position unavailable after my first shift (wasting about a month of all our time), or they underhandedly fired me for lgbt+ status. Either way, it was a very frustrating process, and the person I spoke to at Furkids wasnt able to give me a satisfying answer to all this.5 stars for the cats bc thats what the shelter is about, 1 star for my frustrating experience volunteering.
My family and I have always supported the rescue of animals. We have two beautiful rescued pups and wanted to add a kitten to our family. My daughter was extremely excited to go and meet the cats available but her and my wife were met with rude service. I, along with my wife and daughter are disappointed and expected better from a place that is doing good for animals. I always recommend adopting but please consider other places. There is no need for arrogance and rudeness towards people willing to help your cause. The cause might be good but the people are not. No need to treat a mother and daughter the way they were. I can also attest personally from the phone conversation I had with them last week when they did not respond in the time they said they would. I was also met with rudeness and the feeling of me disturbing their day.
Great location to visit and adopt. Kittens are on site during the weekends, either from local adoption sections from stores or foster homes. Volunteers are very knowledgeable about their residents and cats in general. Shelter is organized in rooms based on cat temperament so its very helpful if you plan to adopt, as cat personality is a lot easier to tell when theyre roaming freely. Adopted my first cat here and the process was wonderful. Highly recommend!
I found a number of stray kittens without a home. Brought them here and they just did a phenomenal job. The entire facility is so nicely cared for despite obviously relying on the public kindness to care for the animals. Just such very nice people. Donate and help by giving some of these babies homes!
It’s no small decision to adopt a pet. It takes a commitment to care for the pet for its entire life - to feed it, clean up after it, provide supplies, and care for whatever ailments may appear. It’s a decision we’ve made a number of times over the course of our lives, because the rewards are well worth it. We gain a close member of the family, one who snuggles with us and provides companionship and emotional support. We also provide the pet with a safe home and a comfortable life. Our pets are our friends, our family.Unfortunately, Terri Brunson at FurKids did not see it that way. We were absolutely shocked and mortified when Terri contacted us regarding our pet adoption application and summarily rejected us from adopting from them. What reason could she possibly have for denying us from adopting a kitten? Well, she offered two. They are as follows:1)We already have a 9-year-old cat in our household. Terry was opposed to us adopting a kitten because she believes that it could cause “emotional distress” to our cat. What?! Absurd.2)Because we committed the cardinal sin of not having our 9-year-old cat brought in to the vet for annual check-ups. Again, we know our family members. If our cat does not appear well, we take him in to the vet – and we have. We even offered to take our cat in for a check-up and a rabies shot prior to adopting the kitten. To no avail. We ourselves don’t go to the doctor for annual check-ups! I don’t know many people that do. I don’t know many pet owners that take their pets in for annual check-ups, and I certainly don’t believe that makes them bad pet owners.Frankly, we were deeply insulted by what Terri was saying. By rejecting us, she was telling us that we were unfit to be pet owners – something that we know not to be true. Her tone was harsh, rude, and overly judgmental – the sort of sanctimonious, uppity attitude that belittles others. That attitude is what compelled me to write this message.I feel it necessary to go on record stating that I do understand that a shelter does need to take certain precautions to ensure that their pets are going to a safe home. No one wants to find out that kittens are being adopted to become food for someone’s pet snake, or as bait for dog fighting. But when those precautions are so restrictive that they prevent people like us from adopting a kitten, people who love cats, the system is horribly broken. Before speaking with Terri, we believed the mission of FurKids aligned with our own values. Being a no-kill shelter, and Georgia’s biggest at that, attracted us to them. We had even been making financial donations to them as our preferred charity. No longer. As of today, we have withdrawn our support for FurKids, Inc. We’re ashamed for having supported an organization that creates draconian barriers that *prevent* animals from finding safe, loving forever homes. We will continue our search for a rescue kitten elsewhere, and believe we are owed an apology.
Furkids does an amazing job of rescuing, caring, healing, nurturing and showing these cats love. I drove from Cherokee county to this cat shelter because of their outstanding reputation. When I went in the shelter not one volunteer was sitting still. They were cleaning, feeding, and showing the cats love. They were very professional throughout the adoption process. I filled out my application to adopt and had a reply in 4 hours. This is a wonderful shelter and the volunteers are as amazing as their felines!
I am an animal lover and will do anything I can to help animals in need. As such, I have worked, and donated to, most of the shelters and rescue organizations in Atlanta. I have been a volunteer at Furkids for over 16 years. I love and serve this organization for one reason: They are absolutely awesome. I am saddened to see some negative reviews here. The opinions expressed in these negative reviews are invalid in my opinion. If you have any doubts, I encourage you to visit the shelters yourself. They are open to the public and very transparent. Make up your own mind. Please do not believe the negative posts of some people who have an alternate motivations for posting other than the truth. Visit the shelter. It is an amazing, happy, welcoming place for people and all the animal residents we care for.
This is a great dog rescue organization. Very clean facility. Most of the dogs in this organization are fostered at peoples homes but they also have a facility where they house some of the dogs. Well organized and helpful staff and volunteers. They really care about their animals to ensure good and appropriate homes for each animal. Really happy with the extra time they took to let our dog meet the new potential puppy. I would definitely adopt from this organization again.
I asked for a calico or orange kitten plus sibling. I traveled there and my kitten was unavailable. I was promised they would call me when they had another. I went back a week later they had many, all reserved for other people. No one had called me so I made 2 trips for nothing! Very rude.
I adopted my cat Loki from Furkids four or five months ago, and the entire process was easy, and very enjoyable. Everyone there is clearly very passionate about finding good homes for the cats in the shelter, and eager to help and answer any questions they can. Its very organized, and the cats seem to be really well taken care of while in Furkids care. Im already considering adopting another cat, and Ill definitely be returning to Furkids to start my search!
4 stars because they never pick up a phone call. My call always goes unanswered. Their volunteers are awesome. I have adopted 2 cats from there. Of you adopt a kitten under 6 months, you have to get a pair, which is awesome. I dont regret adopting two sisters who are inseparable. I would definitely recommend aspiring from this place. One of pur friend also ended up adopting a cat from here and he loves it.
This is by far the best animal shelter environment I have ever seen. The love and care towards these cats is evident in all of the volunteer staff. We took our Girl Scout Troop there for an event and the girls are all looking to find ways to help out and they loved spending time petting, reading, and playing with the cats. It was hard to leave without taking any of those sweet cats home!!
Sadly this was one of the most rude encounters Ive ever had while on the phone in my lifetime. She was extremely disrespectful and even made a nasty remark about my voice (I am soft spoken). I have my current animals vaccinated but could not remember the vet I took them to the past time since I have recently switched. She lacked the patience to let me explain myself and later hung up on me. I wanted to adopt a sweet kitty and give it a great home but sadly because of the staff of Furkids, I will be adopting elsewhere. Im not sure how they are in business if this is how they treat people.
Very strange shelter with strange rules. Before you can even go look at any cats you have to fill out an application despite the fact that you have no idea if you want to adopt with them. You cannot adopt a kitten unless you adopt 2 kittens together. I have never seen any other shelters impose such crazy rules on people. I wonder how much luck this shelter has with adopting any kittens at all.I dont recommend this shelter to anyone unless you want go through hassle and be asked hundreds of questions before you even go in.
I just had to surrender my cats due to an unfortunite living situation that I am going through. The people there are extremely nice and even helped me by giving me a gift that will help me in my situation. I love my cats dearly and know that they will find the best home because of them. Thank you everyone who helped me today. S.S.Very clean facility with beautiful cats. Please adopt, foster, donate, volunteer etc... I know I will be doing so when I get back on my feet.
Amazing shelter! Highly recommend. They actually care about the cats and it shows! Nicole was fantastic in walking me through the entire process, answered dozens of questions and even made sure the cat I had seen online was there on adoption day! Wonderful place to find a furry friend.
The tireless effort of staff and volunteers makes this a wonderful, no kill option and a great place to volunteer. They answered my calls and emails in the middle of the night when I was caring for a sick kitten and with so many souls needing food and attention, it is a daunting task. I find these dedicated people rise to every challenge they are presented with.I read a post that said they felt interrogated Thats nonsense or a guilty conscience. Not everyone can, or should, adopt or volunteer, but all should visit this facility. Its simply amazing how much love can be in one building (even if you never speak to a human)
I adopted siblings from Fur Kids about two years ago and I thought that the staff was impeccable with how they cared for the animals and my family. Nicole helped us and she answered all our questions and concerns about how to properly care for our kittens Alex and Max. Unfortunately we lost Max in an accident but Alex is stronger than ever and truly my best friend, she’s there for me whenever I’m sad or depressed and I am grateful for Fur Kids so much!!!
I adopted a cat from them a few years ago. They ask you too many weird questions and I was bullied into adopting two cats that wouldnt get along. They ended up taking back one of the cats but the volunteer would not stop texting my husband for updates on the one that remained. It got to the point where I was called by the adoption counselor and made to allow this volunteer to take my cat to the shelter vets. Then she kept my cat for 5 hours claiming that my cat was at the vets for a check up. It doesnt take 5 hours for a routine exam and then this lady was very rude and loud with me when she brought the cat back to me only after I called the shelter director to find out what was going on with my cat and why she wasnt back. The whole experience was so awkward that I dont shop at the petsmart that, that volunteer works at. I was made so uncomfortable from all the weird questions in the beginning to the end. Never again. I only gave two stars because they do good for the kitties they have but otherwise those volunteers are mostly crazy cat ladies
While I love the idea of this shelter, I have to admit, I have more than a few concerns. We were approved for adoption (although we chose not to adopt from this organization) and the people there were nice if a bit too nice? I felt a bit overwhelmed at times with the baby-talk to every cat and the constant reassurance that all their cats were super friendly. The location feels more like a warehouse than a shelter -- the lighting is harsh, the rooms could use more than a bit of sprucing up, and theres literally no place for cats to go to be separated from each other. Not every cat is a social animal -- some want to be separated from their peers in a quieter place. Unfortunately (and in stark contrast to the AHS adoption centers), theres absolutely no solo cages for the cats. While some people may find this to be wonderful, I worry that its a bit one-size-fits-all and rather presumptuous to have every cat sharing their spaces with other cats.Another concern -- almost every cat was showing signs of an upper respiratory infection or other illness. The staff reassured us that all the cats were fine but considering leaky eyes, lack-luster coats, runny noses, snuffles, and sneezing -- I definitely have some doubts. If they arent all sick, they are all extremely stressed which is odd for a shelter of this kind.Additionally, we asked for a kitten who could be gentle, playful, and learn to be a cat with our other adult cat (who we adopted as an adult from another organization and who is fabulous). Rather than focusing on the kittens and teen kitties (i.e., under 1 year old), they took us to see all the adult cats and kept trying to usher us away from the kittens because they were concerned about energy levels clashing between our playful adult cat and a kitten. I understand that they were trying to adopt the adult cats and I even understand the concern, but this isnt taking into account our needs and is blatantly disregarding our own understanding of our existing pet (which weve had for more than six years). Finally, I have had the pleasure of fostering, owning, and TNRing more than 40 cats over the course of my life. Despite this, they treated both me and my fiancé as if we had never seen a cat before. I respect that not everyone comes in with animal experience and its better to be safe than sorry, but its more than a bit patronizing to adopt this behavior without even asking us about our previous pet experience.I really hope that we caught them on an off day. Judging by the other reviews, it seems like that might be the case. Regardless, I dont think well be back after this experience without significant coaxing.
I love Fur Kids. I got my sweet little Mr. Pooh Cheeto from them. We didnt know it at the time but he was very sick. My husband and I did a lot of praying. Furkids took care of him for months and they paid all the bills. Today he is one year old and healthy. There is something about this cat. He is so special and were so happy God let him stay with us.
This is the happiest shelter I have ever been to. The volunteers and staff keep it very clean. Vast majority of cats are kept in rooms with cat trees and comfy spots to rest. Plenty of toys available for playtime. Most rooms even have a giant hamster wheel for the cats to exercise on. If you have extra time on your hands, consider volunteering here.
Dont waste your time here. Go to a shelter where the staff is friendly and doesnt interrogate the clientele. The moment I walked in there was a staff member talking to a woman adopting a cat in a very condescending tone. This theme continued both in my experience and as I overheard others experiences at this shelter. They would not allow me to adopt due to their indoor only policy. These cats are not even allowed to be around indoor outdoor animals despite if all the proper vaccinations have been administered. This is a shame because I would have loved to take one of their cats home into a loving environment.I left here and went straight to the Atlanta Humane Society. Now I have a mother and her kitten to love on thanks to the help of the wonderful team at the Atlanta Humane Society!
We drove really far to get to the shelter and we were told that we weren’t even allowed to enter unless we filled out an application. That someone would contact us to schedule an appointment. I wish that there was something to let visitors know about this prior to arrival. I would have not wasted time and gas to travel to this location. Other than that the facility looks nice from the outside.
Was going to adopt. Filled out an application and WASNT EVEN SAT DOWN WAS STANDING UP AND TOLD I WAS NOT ABLE TO ADOPT because I dont have experience at a vet office. Like what? So do you guys just expect to have all these cats and kittens and not allow someone to adopt for a stupid reason. WAS very disappointed and even when I walked in a rude man spoke to me and my family. I honestly felt like none of these workers wanted to give me and my family their time of day. Like no wonder they have so many cats inside one room together and its more than anything. Because they dont allow anyone to adopt. Pathetic. Dont even waste your gas or time.
I would like to give more stars but theres a lot wrong with the process. Its a great cat shelter. They take great care of the animals. Lots of choices for the perfect pet. However, they dont give you medical truth when I adopted. It took me driving there with my cat I adopted to have a bad eye looked at. Emailed an spoke on the phone than when I arrived I was told there was no vet that day.No help. I emailed asking a vet to reach out had to email again (theres no way to get anyone on the phone.) They sent me a copy of vaccine records? Ive given up on this place.
In the spring of 2013, I was living in a house with a few other people. One of my roommates had agreed to take in a Mama cat and her 5 newborn kittens because the friend didnt have time to care for kittens. The roommate moved out very suddenly a few days later and abandoned this cat family in our garage. There was no way I could leave them in there to freeze overnight, so they came to stay in my room with me. I called around to upwards of 20 animal control offices and shelters, all of which were full before I found furkids. I emailed Furkids at the suggestion of another friend from the Atlanta area and got a response within the hour saying they would have a foster spot open for them ALL the next day, despite one of the kittens having some kind of infection in his eye. When I got there the next day, I was greeted by a small group of staff and volunteers who had heard about these kitties and wanted to meet them. I felt so relieved that they were in the hands of people who could give them the kind of care they needed and deserved. I will always be grateful to Furkids for giving me the ability to help these animals and save the babies from the certain death that awaited them at Animal Control due to their small size.Thank you Furkids!
This organization really wants to save all cats. It’s crowded and overwhelming. I was interested in one cat and they were looking all over the different cat rooms. Turns out it was in a foster home. It was a waste of a trip. I would suggest they come up with a better organized system. That in turn will help shelter cats/kittens permanently.
I found the sweetest little cat and couldnt keep her due to my other cats. Finding a no-kill shelter in Georgia is so hard (even the SPCA said they were full) but Fur Kids came through. They accepted the sweet little girl and I know will they will find her a good home.
For the most part I feel like Furkids is a huge blessing. That said, at the Furkids cathouse at Petco in Sandy Springs I have rarely met a NICE representative of Furkids! I JUST had this experience [that I have had multiple times] AGAIN! I have kept it to myself through each negative experience until now. If you dont like working in or near the public [even on voluntary basis] DONT DO IT!!!!
Great place for finding a feline family member to love. I fell in love with one of their feline furkids and they made the adoption fairly painless while verifying that he was going to the right type of home.Keep in my mind this place is very busy and run by volunteers who give their personal time. Patience is a key. If you lack patience, owning a pet probably isnt for you.
As I look at the reviews on here it is obvious Furkids Animal Rescue are paying for reviews to skew all the 1 star reviews they have got. If you notice most if not all the 5 star reviews are local guides, meaning they review many things more than likely for money. Just look at the 5 star reviews. very nice staff and people While all the 1 star ratings get into thorough detail of just why Furkids made them have a bad experience. Pretty shady practice when you cant trust reviews on a page.
I had to put my 8 year old cat down. He had kidney failure. It was unexpected and happened quickly. That being said, I wanted to fill the void and filled out an adoption application online with Fur Kids. I got a phone call back. These people want to know about other pets in house. They call your vet and then ask why they dont have records of all your pets and proof of vaccines. What?? I get the vaccines at a low cost place. My animals are indoor They go out to pee and they come back in. They have shots but I have no clue if they are up to date. I have a 15 year old cat. No recent vaccines. He is an INDOOR cat. The dogs are indoor dogs. They dont even get fleas! So, basically if I cannot prove my animals are up to date on shots and being treated for heartworms... they are INDOOR animals, I cannot adopt. So they want to find good homes which my home is a great hone, but they put to many restrictions on adopting. You are better off at a county shelter where you are not interrogated for wanting to give a great life to a pet. These people should be ashamed of themselves.
Dispite of all negative reviews, i want to share abt my personal experience!! I adopted a siamese baby boy from Furkid and super satisfied!! The staffs are very nice and they all care about the cats well being that is why they wont let you declaw, which i think it does make sense. I definitely recommend this place!! The place might get really bussy during the weekend, so its better to visit during weekdays to get comfy with the cats! Thank you Furkid for introducing me to giggles aka stormy the siamese! I’ll take a good care of him I swear!
I went to adopt in the Pet Smart store in Tucker and filled out an application. The application instructions were fairly simple . Fill out application, a rep would contact with 24-36 hours, if you are the first you have preference to adopt. However 4 days went by and no one contacted me. When I emailed I was told that they were locating my application as the volunteer did not have it. When Lynn emailed back she explained that another family had adopted the kitten. I thought to myself there was such a lapse In time that its no wonder another family adopted. I was told that we both did our application at the same time instead the other person online and were given preference because they already had another animal at home. I was then told that an in home assessment or phone interview would need to be done. I agreed to both however when Lynn emailed she said she would call but never did. I followed up and she gave me a time slot of availability for a call. She then cancelled our call due to personal reasons (doctor appointment ). In the next few days she emailed and said she had been thinking about if I still wanted to adopt. I told her I did and she said she would give me a call for a phone interview but she never called. She then emailed questions for me to answer and at this point Im a little confused because she emailed me the same questions I previously answered on the application. I completed the questions immediately and emailed them back. Two weeks went by and I heard nothing from Lynn. I went into the store to see if the cat was still there and she was not. I emailed Lynn to followup and she told me that because we had a problem connecting over the phone she made the decision to not extend an adoption based on an answer on my application which was a , maybe when asked if I will declaw the cat. I personally had no knowledge about the procedure of declawing. I selected maybe in the case it was a mandatory thing to do by the agency or in the case there was a health concern with the cat. I had no idea that it was a painful procedure for the cat and should not be done. If Lynn would have called and spoken to me we would have cleared that up. But she never called and now she is saying we can not adopt through the agency for a year. I understand the reason for the declawing concern but I find it bizarre that I was delayed for a month and continuously told that I would get a call. The agency had my application a month ago and could have told me this sooner. I have an 8 year old who really wanted a cat so it was a huge disappointment. I thought adopting would be ideal but this has left a bad impression.
Furkids is a great organization, and of course the animals all need loving homes, but their organization and communication could use some work. I adopted my black cat 3 months ago, so I feel like my review is not one coming from a place of impulsiveness. I filled out the papers and paid the adoption fee for my cat in May and adopted him in the middle of June. We did this to reserve him so no one else could take him until we were ready in a couple weeks. When we arrived at the shelter in June, they were understaffed, which I understand does happen. First, I was assuming we would get to visit with our cat before putting him in the carrier to maybe calm down down and get him to start to realize we were ok people, but the lady just went to get the cat to put in the carrier. She brought back someone elses cat in our carrier. When she came back with our cat, she implied we were good to go and could be on our way. I was really confused by this, because other rescue experiences I have had someone has taken some time to talk to the adopter for a bit before sending them on their way. Additionally, I had been told I would get a small ziplock bag of the food they used to take home. I had to tell the lady at the front this too. I understand that we had already done all the paperwork, I just still thought that there would be a bit more of a discussion when picking up the cat.So we got him home and he has been sick off and on ever since. It was immediately apparent within the first day of bringing him home that he was snotty and breathing heavily. This is why I had wanted to see the cat one final time before taking him home. Furkids offered to have him looked at, but unfortunately our schedules didnt match up. But anyway, we have taken our poor baby to the vet multiple times. At first, our vet thought he might have herpes virus. After months of different medications and being sick off and on, long story short, we now have learned he has kennel cough. (Didnt know this was possible for cats until now.) I hope they can somehow get this under control because I would hate for people to be adopting cats with kennel cough.I also have been in contact with two staff members about trying to track down more information on my cat. They took a long time to locate his records, but thankfully were able to eventually. His bio on furkids had said he was raised in a foster home before being moved to the shelter. I had wanted to see if there was any kitten pictures of him, so I asked if they had the contact info for his former foster. They told me We do not keep any record of who fostered unfortunately. Im sorry, what? You dont keep record of your fosters? I dont really understand this. That was the last I have spoken to them because I was so shocked. Im not under the impression its normal for a rescue to not have any record of who is fostering or did foster what animal(s). Like I said, Furkids has been helpful at times, do great work and there are some very nice staff/volunteers, but Ive been overall displeased with my experience. I wouldnt trade my baby for anything else though. Hes the sweetest and truly my baby.
I moved the 5 stars down to 2. We got 2 kittens from Furkids December 2017. I just had to put one down due to Feline Leukemia, Liver Failure and Mycoplasm. They are not outside cats so Im really puzzled why the one had leukemia. Im having to get the other one tested tomorrow morning because they were littermates. Pretty sad at this point.
They warehouse cats. They are always stockpiling cats way beyond their housing capacity (400 cats under one roof). Just ask any of the overworked employees if the overcrowding hurts the cats. The Executive Director is a fraud and tells lies (she is suspected of having founders syndrome). She also drives a donated shelter van for her personal use - even out of state for personal reasons (against the 501c(3) rules). I witnessed her “fire” a volunteer and tell her to never come back just because the volunteer was considered “weird” by the ED. Paid employees and volunteers are treated like modern day slaves. The turnover rate is worse than a fast food restaurant. Furkids thinks “bigger is better,” which leads to overcrowding and many animals are neglected because of this. Also, they are not “cage-free” as they claim. There are many cages that house healthy animals (evidence of overcrowding). Even worse, they do not hire any brown skin people. Check it out for yourself. They like to present a good image, but if you scratch the surface you will find the rotten truth. Do yourself a favor and adopt from a smaller rescue where the animals are given a lot of individual attention.
I was interested in one out of three kittens that I had liked on their website. I filled out the FBI interrogation questionnaire application. I was asked if I have a pet. I indicated that I have a dog.Every five minutes there were emails asking me even further questions that I had already completed on the application. I had indicated that my dog was neither spayed nor neutered. The reply back was “why is that”? My reply back was that my dog is a house dog. According to their policy my family and I wouldn’t be a good fit because my dog is not spayed or neutered. Instead of trying to trick people into thinking that they can adopt a pet, Furkids should indicate up front that if your animal or animals aren’t spayed or neutered already, don’t bother filling out the application. Very sneaky tactics. A kitten just missed out on being spoiled for the rest of their life because the animal I already own doesn’t meet their requirements. Show me scientifically how a canine can mount a feline? Dumb logic at its finest. People shouldn’t have to spay or neuter the animals they already have unless they want to. As long as the pet adopted is loved and well cared for, nothing else should matter. The person that corresponded back and forth with me, was Nicole. Nicole you’re very unprofessional and rude. Furkids would rather have 100 plus kittens sitting up in a shelter un adopted instead of being in a loving home. The question remaining is, does Furkids really want to adopt kittens out? Yeah, good luck with that theory. Furkids is a very hypocritical agency. You don’t want the kittens to be declawed once they’re adopted out, but you want other animals that people already own to be spayed or neutered. If I could give this agency zero stars, Furkids surely would get it. Your agency is the worst.
This place is a joke. I emailed them to help find homes for a cat and her kittens and they said no, good luck. This cat came on my property and had kittens. I dont have pets and cant have any pets because I have a special needs daughter and I just cant have them around her or in my house. I emailed and explained my situation and they said they cant take in this mama cat and her 10 day old babies. I even offered to Foster them while homes were found for them but they said no, good luck. What do you do when the cat shelter turns away a mom and 10 day old kittens? Why are you a cat rescue if youre turning away cats that need rescuing and help?
Terrible service and sick cats. From the moment we walked in the door and at every step along the way (over multiple visits) we were left to wait indefinitely, to the point where we had to remind them we were there. They put you through the second Inquisition (at least one of them rudely as others have mentioned), will not even let you see the cats until you pass their written, verbal, and records examinations, and make you sign a detailed agreement on how you are going to take care of your cat which you will probably take better care of yourself anyway. Our girl came to us with roundworm and an ear infection after they assured us she was healthy. She also came without her feline leukemia vaccination which I understand is not required but recommended by our vet, and so we paid for that too. Oh, and once they take your money and unload the lil thing, they are done with you. Emails that I sent asking for more information, advice, and assistance with a couple issues were ignored and then inadequately answered when I pressed. Go somewhere else.
Not sure I understand all the great ratings. Perhaps it was a bad day for them.Arrived looking to adopt a pair of cats or kittens. We were both immediately hit with the odor of urine and used cat litter. The place smelled like it needed a desperate cleaning and we arrived as they opened for the day so they cant claim they had been busy and hadnt had a chance to catch up.Completed the application and felt like we were being investigated - almost surprised they didnt threaten us with random drug testing. When we met with the representative to review our application she was snide, surly and very haughty. She had all the self righteousness of a Prius driver causing a traffic jam because of refusing to drive faster to be green. We chose to leave because of her.We then went to the Humane Society on Howell Mill afterwards expecting to be equally horrified. It was clean. People were friendly. Mostly, it didnt make me want to douse myself in antiseptic because of the lingering urine smell.Fur Kids bragged about having over 300 cats and kittens. Perhaps they should learn to treat humans as well as they claim to care about felines.
Horrible experience starting when I walked in. NO greeting of any kind. I had to walk to the desk and stand around for a minute to find out where to put the food I was donating. But it gets worse. I was told I am not able to see the pets unless I am adopting, because they were “slammed”. I was told “it would be better to come back tomorrow”. There were maybe 10 people there. I was able to do a “quick walk through” tho. But it was very rushed and I wasnt able to see many animals. All of the workers were not friendly except one, which i did not catch her name. I was there maybe 10 min In and out. Upon leaving I heard the desk lady say to another custom who had walked in “ You can’t just walk back there” .Very rude staff. Unpleasant experience. They are obviously not looking in finding these poor animals homes. You are better off going to the humane society.
The place is always busy, which is a good thing because they are taking care of so many kittens. In order to get in, youll have to ring the front doorbell and wait for a staff member to let you in. If youre looking for a kitten, cat or to foster, this is the place for you! Once youve filled out their computer based adoption form (I believe you can fill it out online, as well as look for a kitten to adopt) they will take you to the back. Its a non caged facility, and although there are a few rooms where the kittens/cats can roam around, you will probably see some roaming the hallway as well. I actually ended up going online and filling out a foster parent form and then amazingly enough the same day two kittens needed a foster home! I fell in love immediately and last week adopted. The problem with them being so busy is you sometimes dont get the answers you need right away, and waiting in the waiting room is a long wait. Its not fancy, but they care about their lil ones.
Furkids is such an important business! There are so many unwanted pets and feral animals. Through the foster programs, many motherless kittens and puppies can have a shot at life. Young cats and dogs can live in homes instead of a cage in a stack of cages. Citizens can come and choose from the many pets available. Furkids is an important business run by caring staff and volunteers.
This animal shelter truly has their furkids in mind, yet, once the application was placed in the PC, a weird young woman came out to interview us. She was asking way too many questions and gave us the impression of being investigated. Our income and profession is non of your business. We came to give a cat a home. Now, I dont need to wonder why you have over 300 cats in your shelter. The 2 ladies in the front were very nice but the rest, forget about it! Very disappointing!!!
In June of 2012 I adopted a rescue dog from Furkids. His name is Crisp Biscuit, he has been a complete joy. All the children where live always call out to him and run over to pet him. He loves it. THANK YOU, THANK YOU.I would like to adopt a companion for him. An older 5-6 years old or there about female Beagle. Please contact.
They were very helpful and considerate. My family had attachment issues that other rescue groups were completely insensitive to; that their rigid policy and approach to screening and adoption didnt address nor was there any accommodation for cost in their outrageously high fee structure for two pets. None of this was a problem with FurKids and I met with a real person, not an email dialogue exchange. I felt that egos and personal time came first with some other groups, not the animals. FurKids is my first choice now.
I walked into the building around noon today to see if I could apply for a job here. When I walked in the room, the employees just stared at me and my fiance which made us both uncomfortable. Nobody approached us or even looked at us. It was absolutely ridiculous and if you need a job and want to work with animals or even if you want to adopt, dont go here or their sister branch.
I put in an application to get a pair of cats that had to be adopted together. When I got a reply back I was told I could not be accepted because I may declaw the cat if it scratched up my furniture. I told the lady I wanted to speak to someone higher about this and she said it was her way or no cats. Very rude. I feel sorry for the cats here.
This is by far the worst shelter experience Ive ever had in my life. They keep their poor cats in the same large musky room, and they speak about that so proudly, because their cats arent in cages when in all honesty this is just a large cage the cats have to live in day in and day out. To top it off they do have a separate room where they place cats in a cage, and the worst part is these cats dont get NEAR The amount of attention as their other cats. It was so sad, a cat was by himself locked in a cage being completely ignored while the staff members bragged about the fact that their cats were in this other room with glass windows hoping to God someone takes them out of this place. However, these people get some sick sense of self worth by acting as though theyre too good to allow anyone to adopt a cat in need of a home. Its pathetic. I grew up and my PARENTS declawed our cats, and those cats have always been spoiled, loved, and happy. But because my PARENTS, declawed our cats this pretentious lady came out and said I couldnt adopt. Obviously she uses this as a way to feel some sort of importance in the world, but at the harm and neglect of the animals in this shelter. Keeping them from receiving loving homes from well educated and worth while people is a travesty. I hope one day she realizes what a detriment she is to their well being, but I can safely assume she will hide behind a shield of denial shes created for herself. Sad. Then they gave me a poorly written paper about the terrible effects of declawing. Although if I overlook the glaring grammatical errors and misspellings I must give credit to the author for writing an emotional piece which can easily pull at the heart strings of illogical people. But I hope they see the truth behind the emotional trauma theyre placing on pets just because they fear what they cant understand. When a pet goes under anesthesia for surgery (such as declawing) they are effected by something called anterograde amnesia, which is the same thing that happens to humans, what does it mean? It means that they are unable to form new memories while in surgery, they also have pain prevention, and when they emerge from the anesthetics they have NO recollection of what happened, they keep intact their long-term memory and theyre able to create new memories, but they dont remember the actual procedure. After the procedure cats wake up, their paws are sore, they dont know why. Maybe they caught them between two rocks, maybe they got in a cat fight, they dont know, but THEY HAVE NO IDEA THEIR CLAWS ARE GONE. Have you seen a cat without their front claws use scratch posts? Its because they have no idea their claws are missing. You want to know what is cruel to cats? Forcing owners to clip their cats nails because that’s the only option they have. Cats have no idea what you’re doing all they know is you’re squeezing their paws extremely hard and cutting off a piece of their body. They are filled with anxiety having someone they thought they could trust do that to them, and they have to get it done multiple times! But you can adopt from furkids if you do that. Terrible. Let me put it this way. If I wanted to adopt a child, and my wife and I found a baby who really badly needed a home do you think the adoption agency would ask us would you allow him to get his wisdom teeth removed? That procedure is the equivalent of declawing cats. You go under anesthesia, you wake up sore, you heal and you forget youre even missing your wisdom teeth. By the way have you ever watched wisdom teeth surgery? It looks TERRIBLE, but thank goodness we have professionals who are able to keep people sedated, relaxed and pain free. How do I know this? Because Im one of those people. Currently working in critical care and have three more years of anesthesia to be completely done. Im one of the people denied by some lady who has nothing better to do with her life but feel important by rejecting people who want a pet to love and a cat that needs a home. Go to a shelter that truly helps animals.
I went here in search of a new family pet. I first walked up, a fellow worker/volunteer held the door open for my Family to walk in. Once we were in, the lady of elder age was at the desk. She was a lady who had brunette hair with glasses and with a pink rose iPhone 6. You my wonder why I remember it so distinctly well I will tell you. We had to stand around looking lost for a few minutes before she even looked up from her phone to ask us what we were there for. She began to tell us to just fill out a adoption form then someone that handles that will be there. so after Im done filling out this paper that sits in front of her(after me telling her Im done)me and my family wait for whats next. she never got up to tell someone we were there nor call someone up. I wait bout 5 minutes to remind her Im done and ask her so about how long do we wait. Since we were in silence while the whole time she is still paying more attention to her phone. She finally states there is someone nearby but just with a customer. Then a lady finally comes out from the back and the front desk one FINALLY looks up off her phone to ask her to help. The problem is HOW she referred to us. She states, can you help these people? Ive never been referred to as these people. Ive been referred as this family, or they but not as that so I felt very uncomfortable and slightly disrespected in her reference to us. Especially the racial profile out there that is against minorities. That just tops off how she decided to never even go out of her way to say we were even there....I would like to say that Jessica was nice and one other lady I missed her name though she had a heavy accent. The others seemed very unapproachable. I gave 2 stars for the fact that the facility is put together nice for cats and the 2 ladies I mentioned only. It isnt a place I would recommend much due to my experience though.
Saw the commercial, absolutely loved it. I’ve never trusted a brand so much that I hunted them down just to hype them up for being rad! I would trust these guys with everything I had. Everything. God bless each and everyone of you. Have a great day!Hope to visit soon!
They were so rude to me. They didnt even welcome me or help me much with trying to adopt kittens. They told me that this may not be the place for me which is so weird because its an adoption center and anyone should be able to adopt! I hate this place so much. Worst service ever!!!!!
Ive read most of the reveiws on here, and comparing to my expierence today. In all honesty i could tell they really care about the kittens and what homes they are being sent out to, they dont want to give them out just to anyone bc some people are willing to care for a kitten at first and then forget about them and what they want is a good home for them, staff was really freindly, like in any other place sometimes they can be under staffed or busy its understandable i walked in and was greeted well, People may think they are being interregated but that isnt their intention or what they are making it seem they are just doing their job to find a right home for the kittens, they care for the animals they have up for adoption and arent like other shelters that try to get rid of the animal to just anybody that walks in the door.
Jeeze...instead of all you guys whining about no one getting back to you, get in your car and go down and offer to help if you really want to volunteer! I have worked for non profits and they are probably so busy trying to do the basics they dont have time to answer email. Sounds like a great place!

2022-07-11Sometimes Feral animals come your way they may just pick you indirectly & simply trust you enough to ask for help. I E-mailed! the staff about a beautiful kitty mommy that was abandon by previous apartment dweller in my neighborhood. I explained to the staff I took care of the furry family as long as I could however I was desperate to find a facility that would take good care of them and find them a forever loving home. Furkids animal rescue welcomed the Fury family in with loving arms! 🐈🐾❤️ My faith in humanity has been restored. God bless such a wonderful staff with beautiful and loving welcoming hearts!

2022-06-04Havent actually visited the facility, but wanted to share this review about working with Furkids adoption volunteers and adopting from here! I submitted an app last Friday and true to their word within 48-72 hours, was contacted by a volunteer to discuss my wishes for another cat. Annalie was the volunteer who helped me.I was so surprised because she took so much time in discussing the available cats, their individual needs, and how they would fit in with my little cat at home. My parents and I adopted from shelters when I was a kid, but I have never had such in-depth discussions about a cat before! It was great working with someone who truly knows a lot about their cats!Annalie also took time to meet me on VERY short notice and was extremely flexible and understanding with my schedule. She took photos of Coconut (formerly Saul)s adoption. Now I have this beautiful, sweet boy added to my family. Kiwi and I could not be happier, and he has only been here for a few days! Talk about a match made in heaven.Furkids adoption fees are also quite generous given that the cats will come spayed/neutered, vaxxed, and even microchipped! You also get a great, comprehensive set of documents pertaining to their medical history. Cannot recommend adopting from here enough. Impressed with their care and knowledge from start to finish. Please consider adopting or fostering from Furkids!!!

2022-03-21Furkids was amazing to adopt through 10 years ago, and when it came time to adopt again we already knew our choice. We have been privileged to have three cats join our family through them, and it always feels like they are coming from a loving transitional space to their new forever home. Every single person I have dealt with from application to intake to caregivers to administration has been wonderful. I appreciate their work and the mission they are on, and wholeheartedly support them. I recommend everyone who can set them up as the beneficiary through Amazon Smile so you can also help keep their mission alive in bringing joy to hundreds of families each year.

2022-06-25This is an amazing facility! This is where everyone should be adopting their cats from because these folks do such amazing work in our whole state. The volunteers and staff here work so hard to meet the very real challenge of cats needs in our community. The building and grounds are simply beautiful Im very functional for all the cats who are lucky enough to get to live there. Please consider being a foster parent and/or donating

2022-05-08What an amazing location and shelter. Worth stopping by and exploring the koi fish pond. They are available to rent the outdoor spaces for events. Also drop off animal donations such as blankets, towels, pet supplies, food

2021-10-23Furkids is the best place to rescue- they were so helpful and reliable throughout the whole adoption process. My puppy had two parasites when I got her, and they provided treatment and parasite testing throughout her recovery. The people that work here are incredibly kind and capable people; I cannot recommend enough!

2022-04-19Puppy was brought to me covered in dried fecal material. The dog had definitely been rolling in her own feces for days. It was on top of her head, behind her ears, between her toes. Her entire body was covered in dried fecal material. This dog looked like this when we had an appointment to see her. I cant imagine how she would have been if we just showed up.She stank so badly that we made them go wash her before we would take her. They dragged her across the floor, choking her with a slip lead while complaining that the dog was stubborn to lead.I have never seen more poorly handled puppies at any adoption agency. While we were there, one of the employees mentioned a great pyr that had escaped this establishment and had been run over 50 feet from their building. This employee said, and I quote It was probably for the best.I would never recommend this adoption agency. But if you have no other options, Id recommend investing in a bottle of vinegar to do a vinegar rinse on your dog when you get it home. It is going to stink for days. For an organization taking over $3,100,000 in 2020, I expect better. This visit was so nightmarish, I couldnt make this up.

2021-07-21FurKids is an exponential Animal Rescue. I have had the pleasure of volunteering. Everyone there cares deeply for those animals and the friendships between human and animal is ever present. The thrift store has neat items and all the proceeds go right back into the lovely shelters. FurKids is a no kill shelter so show them all the love and support as it is important to support Animal Rescues that value the lives of our furry companions.

2022-09-10Beware their cats and kittens are sick. We love our new family member and will do everything to make her better. Just be prepared if you adopt from furkids to not get much help or support from them. If you do adopt from them please quarantine from your other animals until you confirm with your vet if it is safe to introduce them. Our little kitten spread cperf /cdiff through our entire house. It has been a nightmare. Furkids is crowded and this is highly contagious so I suspect most cats/kittens there have it.
