German Car Repair has been servicing my ‘86 BMW 535 for the last 4 years. It is not a high value car but they take care of it like it is. I drive 40 minutes, one way, because they’re so good. Very clean shop, great at communication, and they have never surprised me with an “unexpected issues”.
Being a classic BMW enthusiast for decades, and owning several of them, it is a blessing to have Alan Kidson and Michael Spooner at German Car Repair. There is no one else in our region who has the acumen, and enthusiasm for classic German cars that they do. As vintage BMW owners themselves, they fully understand what it takes to keep our old cars running perfectly. GCR is an immaculate, well managed shop with very talented, enthusiastic employees who really like what they do and it shows in how they interact with customers. The bottom line is the quality of their work, and it continually exceeds my expectations. My most recent service was a rebuild of my 85 European M635CSi engine. It is a complex, high performance engine that is a challenge to set right, and it now runs as new. German Car Repair is a trustworthy, first class operation in every regard and if you have a classic or modern German performance car you will not be disappointed .
Very professional and nice staff. Facility was super clean and comfortable. They offered me an office to work in when they saw me struggling with my laptop in the waiting room. They took my car right away and finished earlier than estimated. Price seemed very fair. They did a pre-purchase inspection last year and provided a very thorough report which gave me exactly the peace of mind I needed. I will definitely be back and highly recommend to anyone who needs their German car repaired.
Came in for an oil change the other day. They got me in on time and had me out within an hour. Reasonable price, great customer service and excellent work. Wish my doctors or dentists were that timely and had as good customer service. Will continue to bring my car to them for all its maintenance needs.
I only trust this place to take care of my BMW. Ive been bringing it to them for years and always receive the highest level of service. They are quick and professional and always have my issue resolved the first time. Their beautiful lounge is spacious and comfortable in case I need to wait around for a quick repair. I wouldnt take my vehicle anywhere else and recommend anyone driving anything German take their vehicles here as well.
Everything was discussed prior to beginning the work and ordering parts for the repair. Some things I had done and the repair itinerary was adjusted to reflect things I had done that didn’t need repeating. The service was done soon after the parts were received. From the time I dropped it off to the time I picked it up was one week… new starter, battery, rear differential mount, rear diff and transmission fluids replaced, oil level sensor replaced. My wife says her car starts up now like never before. It is a 2005 BMW 330Ci
Needed to have a professional inspection of my newly purchased Porsche before I had to make a final decision. They took care of me quickly giving get details about the condition of the vehicle and what I could expect of its useful life. Very professional, very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I have three Porsches, and German Car Repair is providing excellent service for all three. The service advisers and mechanics are very responsive and effective. They place a high priority on customer service and satisfaction. And, their prices are very reasonable, considerably below dealership service costs.Highly recommended.
This was my first repair at GCR. My stock charge pipe blew on my M2, and I was also having an issue with an oil leak.Mark was a pleasure to work with. I was given a timeframe for the repairs to be completed, cost estimates, and provided with updates along the way. They caught several maintenance items that needed attention and were very thorough with inspecting the car.Everything was finished earlier than promised, the car was even washed before I picked it up!I’m most impressed with the attention to detail from everyone who worked on my car. I had the car towed there due to the chargepipe issue, and at pickup they had put the tow hook back in my trunk and secured the cover on the front bumper.Extremely professional, excellent mechanics, and outstanding work.I will definitely be back!
Wow what can I say Allan transformed my car into a beast. Anyone on the edge if you will get this noelle tune or not, get it!! If you want to destroy most cars then get it, beauty is when in ‘granny mode’ drives like a normal non tuned BMW, it’s always upto you on how and when you want the power. Extremely pleased with this
I can not believe that it has taken me this long to write a review of my experience at German Car Repair.I have been in the enthusiast world for a long time, and it is truly difficult to find an operation with the level of dedication and precision that these folks bring to the game. Just one step into their facility and you can tell that they are a group that take pride in what they do. Their pricing is not out of line with independent shops in the area, but the level of service they provide far exceeds that which I have experienced, even at BMW. They provide loaner vehicles (something I have never seen at an dependent shop in my area) and their waiting area is at dealership level.Through an enthusiast network, I found out about GCR and the people who recommended them were beyond reproach when it came to care and condition of their vehicles. I had my 1985 M635CSi shipped up to them to resolve a plethora of problems that shockingly, no shop in the South Florida area (where I live) seemed to be able to resolve. The level of communication I received was outstanding and my vehicle was brought to a mechanical level that exceeded my expectations by a wide margin.GCR supports the local enthusiast community, and the fact that they enjoy what they do truly does show - from the friendly folks the moment you walk in, to the spotless shop floor that you can practically eat off of. There are many shops to chose from, but there is no competition.Enthusiasts are hard to please sometimes, but by my own experience I can wholeheartedly say that these are the type of people you want to trust your vehicles to.
I had the greatest experience working with everyone at German Car Repair! They were professional, kind, incredibly efficient and just overall a joy to work with. Unexpected car repairs are no fun but they made it so much easier than I expected. I will be back for all future work my VW needs!
I was one week early for my first-time appointment but they worked me into the schedule (while I waited) anyway. Two other customers their said I absolutely came to the right place. I learned about them for the Nextdoor neighborhood sharing website. Very happy that I found GCR!
I brought my car in for a pre-purchase inspection. They did a thorough job and provided me with a detailed report that covered everything. The staff made me feel comfortable and I am confident they do excellent work based on my experience here. Additionally, they came as a recommendation from another German Car specialist. They are know for being one of the best shops in the area. GCR will get my business anytime I need work done on my vehicle.
Thanks so much to GCR for the exceptional service on my Audi A4. My car broke down while on vacation in Blue Ridge, and they were able to fix it when no one else could. I had a clutch burn up and die in the mountains and now my car drives better than new. Everything was handled very professionally while 100% remote / over the phone. I want to thank everyone there at GCR for a job well done. They even got me in contact with an excellent auto transport company to get my car back home to Florida. I highly recommend their services.
GCR provides exceptional service alongside elevated customer service ( Mark is awesome!) and quick turnaround times.I’ve taken my 05’ 330i here for radiator maintenance and they were able to replace the entire system in one business day.Prices here are much better than most dealers and they even give you a list of preventative maintenance items for the future. Definitely will take my car here and here only in future.
Finally. A high-quality service experience. Great work on my BMW. Better than the big dealerships in town. Communication consistent and clear. Chase was excellent as my service advisor and they FINALLY fixed my starting issues after multiple service places and both dealerships. Thank you thank you!!
German Car Repair is a great maintenance shop to bring your car in for service compare to an auto dealership. I bring my car to German car repair because they always do a great job and great service. If they see something else that your car needs, they will make you aware of the problem and work with you in when to bring in your car for the service. We all been to dealerships who scare you into doing service which you may not really need right now. Not German Car Repair, they give there honest opinion and we as a customer either have to take there advice or not. I take there advice which helps my car running the way it needs to be. Thank you German Car Repair.
I took my car to Mavis where they tried to fast talk me into buying a new alternator even though I had replaced that last year and it was still under their warranty. I took my car to German Car Repair and was greeted right away. Very professional, courteous service. Even the owner makes himself available talk to. While at Mavis, I would have to call from their lobby because no one would come out to greet/help. Only go to German Car Repair! You will be so pleased you did.
This shop is exactly fitting of the very positive reviews. They were clear, made appointments, drop off and pickup convenient, were transparent about services needed and those that were optional, and completed the work in a timely fashion. They were professional and fairly priced, and I will be using them again!
Honest and fair priced. They Called to define diagnostics with costs of repairs, prior to doing work to obtain approval; and again when work was completed. I Traveled 120 miles to go there on recommendations of some friends, was well worth the trip and time. Will be going back for any repairs in the future!
The team did a great job with my car and made sure they only did what was necessary. After thinking I had a faulty battery, they were able to confirm that my battery was healthy and did not need replacement that I was fully expecting to have to be done. Also was surprised to hear that my rear brakes were at 80% and did not require maintenance. Both the rear brakes and battery are original on my 2016 Q5. My first experience and a very pleasant one I must say. I will be returning for my future needs.
Highly recommended.Very honest - when I called about the issue with my BMW, they told me to first contact BMW because the issue might be under warranty, which means I dont have to pay anything. After taking my car there, they explained the issue and fixed it very quickly, also making sure I dont have the same problem again, and the price was very fair compared to other places. Will definitely go there again.
I went to German Car Repair to have them install a set of H&R Lowering Springs and also give me an alignment. The Service Manager was really nice, they helped me make my appointment and handled everything the day I dropped the car off. Their pricing was fair, did great work and I really enjoyed working with them. Will definitely be bringing my car back for service there!
I have been using GCR for the last 5 years for out two BMWs( X5 and 528i ). GCR provides quality service at reasonable price and also the front desk personnel ( I usually deal with Mark) are very knowledgeable to explain the details of repair ( cost of parts, labor and time line) so one can plan the visit and schedule it to have a pleasant experience.
I had an A+ experience at German Car Repair. I came to Alan to get a second opinion on a rear axle repair that a different shop said I needed, and GCR was upfront and honest that the repair could wait. In addition, Alan and Chase kept me in the loop at all times with great communication. Jerry did an excellent job inspecting my car and reporting on any repairs that I actually needed. I would recommend GCR without reservation.
I brought my 2000 Porsche 911 to do some major maintenance and repairs (IMS bearing, Air/Oil Separator, Clutch). Their prices were very fair and my communication with Tim and the other gentlemen at GCR was excellent. I asked them to look over the car in detail to see if there was anything else in need of repair while they had the car, but they never started on an additional work without first talking to me about it and getting my approval. They worked very fast and actually had my car ready a day before the estimated time of completion. They also registered my car and IMS Retrofit bearing with LN Engineering without me having to ask. The folks at German Car Repair are extremely knowledgeable and friendly and I will definitely recommend their services.
A great Porsche shop, very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Do a great job with details. For example, I was going through my owners manual looking at something and even noticed they updated the service records in the owners manual porsche packet, which Ive never seen a non-deal take the care to do. Highly recommended.
Thats the best car repair place Ive seen in the whole state. If you have a German car, which means expensive repairs, this is the place to come. They are honest, great service, great quality and always on time. I had a very bad experience with the Audi dealership and finding German Car Repair Inc was a blessing. See for yourself and you wont regret!!
I am stunned at my good fortune in having been referred, by the Bimmer Car Repair fellas, to German Car Repair. GCR did a great job on brakes a while back, so when my VW Tiguan clunked backing out of the garage a couple of weeks ago, I knew who to call. Their calm demeanor suggested a possible transmission problem, but a thorough diagnosis would have to be conducted in person. I risked the drive to their shop, dropped it off, and then waited for the news. It wasnt good. It would indeed need a new transmission, and they had scoured the country to find one -- the only one -- new, in California. Delivery and installation would take a while and the price tag was high. I absorbed the news and readied the bank account. A day or so later I got a call from Chase at GCR. He asked if I would like to hear some good news. Sure, I said. Why not? He said the shop had conducted one last check before ordering the transmission and they had found something of interest. Do you you park your car in a garage? Chase asked. Yes, I do, I said. Is there dog food or bird seed in that garage, he asked. Yup, I said. Well, said Chase, it looks like a wire to the solenoid, has been gnawed or chewed by a rodent. We replaced the wire, and your car is fine. No need for a new transmission. The one you have is fine. I was shocked -- yes, at my good fortune at having found GCR,, and especially thankful for GCRs thoroughness, but mostly I am astonished at their integrity. How many shops would have stopped the process of a transmission replacement to do one final check, just in case? How many, once the wire to the solenoid was found, would have stopped the transmission replacement altogether, trading a major repair in the thousands of dollars for a minor one in the hundreds? Few, I fear. I am a raving fan of GCR, and I will be a customer for life.
GCR came widely recommended when I was looking for an independent shop to perform a Pre-Purchase inspection. From my initial contact with them via email, I knew Id be in good hands. Communication was fast and clear. They slotted me in with just a few business days of notice. The shop is impeccable, and the parking lot filled with high-end cars is something to behold. The inspection was performed in a couple of hours, and I was given both a printed and electronic version of the results. It was clear from the report that they pay a lot of attention to detail. I was given time to ask any questions, and was on my way home a short while later. I will definitely be back when the need for service arises, and highly recommend you check them out. Integrity shines through everything they do there. Thanks, GCR.
German Car Repair specializes in their namesake and they are quite reputable in the area. The owner Alan is honest, professional, and friendly. Years ago I had my first venture into an older Porsche Boxster and in having them do the pre-purchase inspection they helped me avoid potential money pits and I eventually found an ideal 2001 Boxster. This time I was looking to buy a 2017 VW Touareg and their inspection gave me the confidence before I decided on the purchase.
I must say that this has been without doubt the BEST experience. I have been a Bmw and Porsche owner since 1976 , lived in different parts of the country , and Alan and his staff are without doubt the most honest , caring , and knowledgeable. They take their time to explain what they are going to do way ahead of actual performance , so that you, the client are educated. I think this has been the most fun as well. Alan , and Mike took time to show me around one of the most well equipped and super clean facilities. I will continue having my 1988 M6 serviced here. I will also bring my wife’s 2014 435 m sport In the future. BMW rocks , and GCR is a new power. I love what they do and how they do it. Concierge service ,just like going to the Ritz.in Paris. It doesn’t hurt that Alan is a rare human and also a M635Owner. Thanks for the referral from Kai a great friend in Florida who actually had a complete work over from GCR. Yes , Yes , Yes.
Its always tough when you are in an industry where the customer service bar is so low, peoples expectations are that anyone in automotive isnt looking out for them, definitely not the case with German Car Repair. These guys are amazing, I would recommend them to anyone - Ive been going to them for over a year and wont go anywhere else. Always friendly, always accommodating and always take great care of you.
My Porsche Cayenne developed a knocking sound. I took it to the Porsche Dealer and they quoted me $18,500 to fix it. Had to pull the engine, replace the oil pump and half the engine parts, will take 10 days, blah, blah, blah. I brought my car to German Car Repair for a second opinion. The drove it and listened to the sound, inspected it and fixed the problem by the next morning for $300. I kid you not. It turned out to be a power steering fluid hose anchor point was broken and the hose was slapping from the vibration of the engine. I just drove the car on a 500 mile trip and it runs perfectly. I am a customer for life.
VERY professional and educated!! They talked to me in great detail and were very kind and helpful. Didn’t oversell me on anything extra, talked me through a plan of future services since my vehicle was made in 2013. From setting up the appointment to paying for my services, these two gentlemen at the front were superb!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!
Been with Allan and his team forever since my BMW came off the free service and they are reasonable, do a good job and have always been like a doctor to my car. I have been with them for 130K miles on the car and they continue to treat it like their own and keep advising me on how to keep it running....
A family member recommended I take my X5 35d to German Car Repair. I called in advance in case I needed to make an appointment to have a check engine light diagnosed. I spoke with Taylor and was told they could diagnose the problem the same day. Upon my arrival, I was promptly greeted. I was very pleased with how clean this facility is. I felt comfortable that attention to every detail will be given to my repair. I made plans, prior to my arrival, to leave my vehicle. Estimates were emailed along with information on setting up an account for service and maintenance. I was able to speak with Michael about previous repairs made at a shop closer to me. I am pleased with the service and length of time for the repairs. Glow plugs, a couple of sensors, and front control arm bushings were replaced. There was no wait for dropping off and picking up my vehicle. My vehicle was as clean as when I dropped it off. Everyone I spoke with was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional.I have two German repair shops that are closer to me but did not get the level of service I received here. I couldnt be happier. Thank you
They provide amazing service. I told them what I wanted and they told me what I needed and a recommended course of action. They also did not try to upsell me by giving me things I did not need, like another oil change. An honest mechanic is hard to find....so far so very happy! We have used them exclusively for our car and each time they have gone above and beyond. The last thing we did was ask them to replace a headlamp. They replace the bulb and adjusted our lights. Great team with great service.
12/9/21: Urgent electrical and power steering pump needs for my 997 Porsche Carrera required my call to Mark at GCR today. GCR fit me in this AM, my needs were promptly and courteously cared for, and I continue to be a completely satisfied customer. Excellent service, GCR ... over the top responsiveness and customer care. GCR is my only go-to shop for Porsche service. My thanksAnother positive experience at German Car Repair ... back for annual service on my 08 Carrera with nothing but superlatives for their focus on what was needed, attention to detail, friendly and prompt service. Will return with my 991 GT3 for service support as well. Keep it going, Alan and team! Well done and thank you!!Only positives to report on German Car Repair. For those that have had less than great experiences, I am baffled. Ive owned 911s for 30 years. Alan, Jerry and team have serviced my 997 Carrera and 997 Turbo for years; each time as described by GCR enthusiasts - competently, capably, and reasonably. Their move to Forsyth County makes my drive from ITP less convenient, but the trip time is more than worth it. Trust is a rare commodity these days; I choose to bank it with GCR.
GCR replaced my Porcshe Macan factory springs with H&R sport springs to lower car profile and enable a tighter ride. The shop was clean and efficient. Service and repair quality was high. Additionally, the front-office people were all about the customer service and satisfaction. I will definitely bring my car back for maintenance and other service needs. Thank you.
These guys do an awesome job and I am a big critic being in the car business and having worked with a lot of service shops out there. Not only do they do great work but they are excellent in the relational aspect of the business and go out of their way to make sure a client is taken care of. Great shop and excellent people working there.
I took my car here for an oil change and to get looked at. The gentlemen who work here are professional and courteous. I ended up needing a few things done and they gave me 10% off for being a first time customer - which I didnt know they offered. To me that speaks volumes about their integrity (and it was nice to save an unexpected 10%). I highly recommend using these guys.
I recently visited German Car Repair for the first time after becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the Audi dealership and could not have been more impressed! They were extremely friendly and professional and are clearly are experts in what they do. They completed an oil change and diagnosed a problem that the dealership couldnt figure out after taking it in three times--all within about an hour. Pricing is very fair. They provided estimates and spent time explaining the issue/proposed work in detail but did not pressure me to do the work right then. Will definitely be back!
Called and asked to speak with a service advisor to get some engine upgrades to my BMW F10, was ready to drop some serious money on intakes, new mapping , coilovers exhaust and down pipes!!!!Guy didnt care or even showed any interest in my business over the phone!! He said he will call me back and I never heard a thing back!!! Been 4 days!!!First and last phone call to this place!! Taking my business somewhere else!!! Sounds like they are snopes and not interested in my business!!! Very Disappointed!!!
GCR has been our service center of choice for years for both MB and Audi vehicles. This service was especially important because of an expired battery during a cold snap...a sure recipe for being inconvenienced somewhere....they were able to accommodate us and changedthe battery the next day. Great and quick service! FAR better than the brand service centers...
I’ve been going to them for 3 years So I thought it’s about time to share my opinions. The thing about cars is that the small stuff anyone can do and goes unnoticed for the most but for the big stuff you only get to know the quality of work after a few years.Alan is honest and a man of his word. After 3 years he’s kept my BMW running in perfect shape. The dealership would recommend procedures at times to which Alan would say just wait till the car says it’s time or until he was satisfied it’s ready to be replaced. Other times he would advise that I do some work as preventive maintenance and it’s saved me money and frustration over the years. He had done a big job 2 years ago and I ran into an minor issue with it recently, he stepped up and re-did the job without any hassles at all - more than to my satisfaction.Their rates about the same as the dealership, but they are honest (don’t charge 5 hours for 2 hours worth of work). Importantly I trust Alan’s advice and his word. And they only use genuine BMW parts which is very important to me as parts are cheap compared to the labor so you want it done right the first time.Overall, money saved in the long run, good advice and my BMW runs smoothly.
I have used German Car repair a couple of times now for major repair/ service work on my Mercedes. the staff at German car repair is not only friendly and knowledgeable but, professional and very through as well. they have treated my vehicles as if they were their own cars. They have met or exceeded the agreed upon completion dates. 100% exceptional service. A rare find these days!
I pass numerous options to get to German car repair. They have serviced 3 different Porsche’s for me. They are fair, honest, and easy to work with. They notify you about a repair prior to doing it. Then do outstanding work.Last service I drove off and found a problem with my PCM. I was already on the way to the beach. I called in and the service advisor knew what the problem was and how to fix it. He walked me through the fix over the phone. Got it working. NO CHARGE.They are my only choice for service. They are the best!
As always GCR comes through time & time again.Arrived a few minutes prior to my service appointment and Mark quickly & efficiently had my car checked in, and I retired to the nicely equipped lounge area. Expecting to be there for quite some time I was pleasantly surprised when Mark informed me my car was ready 30 minutes ahead of schedule!Everything was completed and it also explained what would be need at my next service along with a detailed quote.
Clutch went out on my 87 Carrera. Called Alan to discuss. He went over estimated cost to repair. Had a couple of oil leaks that I also wanted to address. After Jerry (who did a great job on the repair) removed the engine and opened up the bell housing, Alan finalized the estimate. Alan also suggested that I come up to discuss a couple of other potential repairs since the engine was out of the car. Some sensors and the fuel line which were original and almost 30 years old were in need of replacement - pretty much shot. Alan pointed out a few more either now or future items since the engine was out. No high pressure, just honest suggestions and discussion. Got the car back and it runs GREAT - Jerry did a great job - everything repaired as discussed. Would highly recommend GCR especially for any air-cooled Porsche repairs.12/7/2021 - Hadnt had service for a while due to COVID and fact that car wasnt being driven. Finally got it started and drove it to GCR. Once again Jerry went through the car did oil change, fluids (brakes and transmission), and tune-up - runs like it was new. Seems to have found some lost power and runs great. Once again Jerry did a GREAT job and I will continue to take my 87 Carrera to GCR!!!
New to the area and selected this shop based on Google reviews, I am happy I did. The team is very courteous and professional and does not try to upsell you on things that are unnecessary. I have visited the shop 3 times for different things; their prices are reasonable and the quality of service is superb. Highly recommend.
GCR - best shop around. They work on my Porsche and BMW and have never disappointed! The mechanics are phenomenal and every estimate has been spot on! I am a customer for life! There is no need to look else where to find a local mechanic shop you can trust, GERMAN CAR REPAIR is the place to go...
Alan was our service advisor. The quality of service was the best I have experienced at any dealer and/or shop. Alan provided options, recommendations and timely information. The delivery time, quality of work, and cost were adequate. I have already recommended the shop to friends based on my personal experience and will not hesitate to bring our Audi back for service.
Had my sons Audi A4 towed here after NTB completed an oil change and then told me I needed a new engine. Turns out NTB discarded an important part during their oil change, which caused a “low pressure” warning rendering the car nondriveable.Within the first couple hours, GCR diagnosed the problem, ordered the part and had it running without issues. Now I’m trying to recover my expenses from NTB. Wish me luck!
First time taking my 2016 VW GTI for routine service. Heard good things from another customer. Extremely friendly staff. Took me to service bay area and was blown away at how clean and organized it is. Actually looks like a great place to work! Like idea of taking my vehicle to a place that actually cares about the cars and customers they work for. I highly recommend them!
What a find.. Engine light on my 2008 Beetle came on. Didnt know where to take it.. Found German Car Repair Inc., They were able to get me right in, diagnosed the problem and were able to order the part. Was going to Uber home until the repair was complete and return back when Tim mentioned that they have Loaner Cars.. Put me in one and I was on my way. Car was ready a few hours later.. What a great experience... Thank you....
I recently moved to the area and was a five hour drive away from my mechanic in south GA. The starter on my S550 died on me, on a Saturday, and left me stranded. I called a buddy who highly recommended GCR. Rest assured my buddy was correct!!! Mark from GCR called first thing Monday morning to assure me they would take good care of me. GCR was thorough, diagnosed the problem and made sure there werent other concerns. Their prices are fair and their professionalism is top notch! Its great to know Ive got honest people to take care of my automotive needs!
Mark and the staff at GCR in Alpharetta are amazing! We started using them a year ago for my children’s VW Jettas. They are always professional, clean and get us in in a timely manner. Their pricing is great! They are fair and honest. We appreciate them! Thank you GCR!!
Another wonderful experience with this business. Recently got my 2009 Audi TT freshened up with a detail service, headlight polishing, and some interior trim pieces replaced. Could not be happier with the outcome. Quailty work all the way around. Fair pricing for the work that was done. It is so refreshing to just drop your car off, hand them the keys and trust that you will be taken care of. Do businesses like this still exist? Yes they do, and they are called German Car Repair. Will not take any of my four German cars anywhere else. If you have not used these guys before, you need to check them out.
It is terrific to find knowledgeable, competent techs who have the experience necessary to work on old BMWs!Ive owned lots of cars through the years - some older and some newer. Ive had the opportunity to deal with plenty of grease monkeys/mechanics/technicians who have worked on my cars. Without a doubt, Alan Kidson runs the most professional auto repair facility I have had the pleasure of dealing with. I drove 2 hours+ (one way) in Atlanta traffic for the privilege of having Alan and Michael work on my 1991 BMW M5. Top marks!!! A++!!!
Their prices are fair, service is outstanding, and staff very knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile. Ive been going to German Car Repair for a few years now, and while theyve moved farther away from my house and it is no longer convenient to get there, I still take my car into these guys. I trust them, and I know theyll give me the best service possible.
Excellent service on my wifes VW Jetta. AC compressor replacement was completed in one day, and we are back on the road with ice cold AC. Alan has great staff that are very courteous, and the free loaner made it that much easier for me to get on with my day. Highly recommend GCR to anyone looking for service or repair work on their German vehicles. Trustworthy, honest, fairly priced, and just nice people to interact with.
I recently purchased a 2016 VW Tiguan (first time VW owner) and I needed to have the car checked out for any potential issues as well as get an oil change. I originally took my car to my usual service center (who has always been very nice) but when I asked to have the car inspected and serviced the service manager sighed and gave me all the reasons why I shouldnt bother and that I should return my car and get something else. (Side note: I hate the assumption that because Im a woman, I dont know much about cars. Contrary to what many men may think, I love cars and know a good bit about them.) I had already done my research on many cars and the Tiguan checked all the boxes for what I wanted. I also really enjoy driving it. Anyway, I decided to find a mechanic/service center experienced with German cars. I was pleasantly surprised to find GCR 3 miles away from my office! The customer service was great, I was treated with respect and the cost for the oil change was reasonable. I think Ive found a new service center!
I am very impressed with this service center. The people who work there are genuine. My BMW was making squeaky noises for a while now. I have lived it with for past few months and finally decided to take my car to GMC. They did a test drive and within 10 min, they came back and said the problem is not with the car but the hanging i had inside my car that was rubbing against the mirror causing the squeaky sounds.I said to myself that cant be it ,as the sound was so annoying ,but decided to remove the hanging and drove back home - and as they said - no more squeaky sounds :) . I am going to use this place for all the future needs of my car.
They performed a pre purchase inspection on a used car for me. Saved me from making a mistake. The dealer hadn’t mentioned the car had been in an accident. All told to fix the damage would have been close to 5k(This number from personal research, not German Car Repair). Did not make the purchase, all told it was money well spent for the inspection.
I was a regular customer of German Car Repair Inc. for many years until I sold my 2001 330ci and purchased a new car that came with free services for the first 50k. I had my first free service at the dealership not very long ago and let me tell you how much I miss Alan and his team!! They spoiled me with years of honesty, integrity and quality workmanship! Hands down the only people I sincerely trust with my car whether old or new.It takes years to build a reputation and only 1 bad incident to ruin it. On every occasion I have found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. The mechanics really know their stuff and are passionate about the quality work they perform. The level of skill and knowledge with Alan and his team are second to none! With all the publicity nowadays of shops ripping people off, taking joy rides in customers cars, intentionally stressing or braking parts, etc.. Those worries are never a factor when visiting Alan and his team at German Car Repair Inc. They treat your car as you would expect when trusting it’s in good hands.I have recommended and will continue to recommend German Car Repair Inc. to friends, family, and coworkers because I believe in their business motto and work ethic, and have had only positive experiences since day 1.
I highly recommend this shop. They are very honest. My 750LI had loud noises after I had my car repaired at the BMW dealership. I took it to German Car Repair for second opinion. They found loose bolt that the BMW dealership at Roswell did. Taylor took care of it at no cost. I really appreciate their service. That show me that they are honest people. It would have cost me $1600 more if i didn’t take to German Car Repair for second opinion. German Car Repair will be my to go for any sevice from now. Thanks again Taylor.
I have been servicing my Mercedes there for over a year, wish I had known ab out GCR before then. Alan Kidson (Owner) and his staff are a professional, competent, honest and affordable organization. My experience there has been nothing short of outstanding in all aspects. Alan and his organization are focused on Customer Service without sacrificing Quality and Affordability. They have earned my business for good; an excellent option to dealership drama!
Friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. I took our car in to check on an issue. They called and confirmed they identified the culprit, but advised that there was a recall/extended warranty repair available for the faulty party and that I could take it to BMW for repair at no cost vs having them do it.
Same price as the local dealer? I just went here for the first time, expecting a great experience to go along with all the positive reviews. It was only for an oil change, but I also asked the service writer to look at a one other thing during the oil change. I must have caught them on a bad day, because I really felt like I was putting them out. Isnt that what they are in business for? When I went back to pick up the car, they never gave me an estimate on the trim piece, and when I inquired about it, they said I needed to go to the dealer. The oil change was $90... which is the same price as the dealer. I personally didnt have a good experience here... I wont be going back.
Ive had my BMW for over ten years and I try to ensure that any maintenance is preformed by honest, fair, qualified, and knowledgeable people. The folks at German Car Repair exceed all the criteria that I look for in a repair shop. The owner, Alan Kidson, took the time to personally explain every issue with my car and what the required maintenance would entail. He was available to answer any questions that I had. He also advised me on the priority of repairs as well as what repairs could wait.Interacting with the team at German Car Repair makes it very clear that customer service is a priority for them.German Car Repair, Inc. is going to be my exclusive go-to for all my repair and maintenance needs.
I have been using German Car Repair for many years. I have taken, Porsches, BMWs and Minis to be serviced. They are honest, dependable and reliable. They have highly skilled technicians and I will use no one else. They are a pleasure to work with and being a car enthusiast I never worry when they have my cars.
After buying my first German car in the states, I was referred by friends to the German Car Repair shop.I can say that they exceeded my expectations, everything was done professionally and fast. Alan the owner was professional and patient answering all the questions I had regarding the car and the service.Seems like I found a new home for my Benz.Thank you and see you for my next service! :)
FINALLY!!We have owned some type of BMW for well over 15 years and after years of always going BMW dealer for help and constantly being let down by poor and rude service (unless going straight to mgmt.). Over the years we had 2 wonderful service advisors at BMW and they too realized the let down of the dealership & left. We were very upset to yet have to start over again with another advisor. Then we heard about German Repair Car. We called and scheduled our BMW there for a much needed service; shocking to discover the person on the other end of the line was our previous advisor, Taylor! He still provides great service! Very responsive and communicates the same great way we loved before. Also, I love receiving the emailed quote/ diagnosis from the shop that lets me see everything that is suggested or needed rather than trying to write it all down etc. Also I have to add, when I dropped off my car I was in and out! One of My biggest issues with the dealer is many times I would be left in a waiting area for 45 mins to an hour when I already had an appt and advised I needed to be in/out because I was on lunch or before work schedule.Definitely recommend GCR!
First rate, as usual...Alan and Jerry have been servicing and repairing my 993 for almost eight years now and I continue to be impressed with the level of competency and professionalism that permeates this organization. In fact, GCR is one of the reasons Ive kept this car longer than Ive ever kept any other. They know what theyre doing and they do it very well.
Took my Porsche Boxster in to have GCR diagnose a rattling noise the car has been making. I scheduled a time about a week out and arrived exactly at 8am on the day of my appointment. I have a LTE connected video dash camera in my car, and I checked in on the car via the dash cam multiple times in between meetings at my work. From 8am-3pm, nobody moved my car from where I originally parked it.I called the front desk around 3pm and asked about the status of the diagnosis since I knew they close at 6pm. The front desk told me that their mechanic had it up on the lift checking things out, but that it would probably take into the next day to complete considering how late it was getting. Had the dash cam not been recording the entire day, I wouldn’t have known what the truth was. I asked the front desk to please check on whether their mechanic was going to be done with the diagnosis soon. They told me they would, but I never received a call back. Some pointers from my customer perspective:1. Don’t lie to your customers. Nobody ever even started my car or drove it into your garage. Don’t tell your customers it’s being worked on when it hasn’t even been moved from its original parking space.2. If your customer honors their appointment with you, honor it on your end too. A diagnosis shouldn’t take more than two hours.3. If a diagnosis appointment is going to take more than 10 hours, and is going to move into the next day, let your customers know so they can plan accordingly. Don’t make your customers call you to find out what’s going on and then tell them it’s going to take two days instead of one to complete a two hour task4. You have competition. Customers like me after being lied to and disregarded will go elsewhere like I am. They will spread the word to everyone else they know who has a german car not to use GCR.
Scheduled service for my SL550. Everything went perfectly. Scheduling appointment, arranging loaner car, and most important: excellent service. I genuinely feel like I got better service at a lower price than the dealership. I will come here exclusively. The staff is very knowledgeable and professional.
Brought my 2002 BMW M3 here for some work and some questions and the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in finding out everything about my car. These guys know what they are doing and I would trust them with my car anyday. I HIGHLY recommend considering them for fair, honest, expert service. I will certainly be back!
If i could leave less than one star i certainly would! Ive never left a negative review for any company before but i feel like this is inexcusable. i brought in a 1992 Volkswagen Corrado because it was running hot. I brought it in to get a diagnosis and was told i needed a new fan and was quoted $1034 for parts and labor. I felt this was high so thanked them and took it to another shop for a second opinion and boy am i glad i did! the shop called me back 30 minutes after i dropped it off letting me know that the fan motor had been disconnected. They reconnected it and the car has been running great. I feel like checking to see if a part is even connected would be step one in problem shooting. i ended up paying GCR $125 for their diagnosis and i consider that more than worth the price to know not to come here ever again
I recommend considering them for fair, honest, expert service.Alan and staff are friendly and provided me suggested repair order. They diagnosed my car issue quickly and suggested me to talk with the AUDI dealer for the faulty part to replace under CPO program, Since i have warranty covered. Will go back again for sure.
I will only take my car to them from now on! Every engagement I had with the staff and owner was positive, informative and very helpful. They explained the problem and did not try to oversell. I have told all of my German car owning friends about them and will do nothing but sing their praises!
My 300K Mercedes ML has been most reliable and the perfect car for us. We want to make 500K but reliability is very important given how many miles we drive on highway. GCR and staff recently helped us find a replacement ABS unit that MB no longer produces. Arg! Nevertheless they found a low mileage unit on west coast and have installed it. Not sure a routine shop could have done so. Going for reliable 500K! Thanks to all.
Got a pre-purchase inspection for a MIni. Very thorough in general. And if anything, too critical, esp with cosmetics. But thats certainly preferable to missing something. I was able to cover the cost of the inspection by negotiating with the seller using the problems they found. Only 2 gripes were that I had to keep calling to get any info, and the car wasnt ready when they said (annoying, but it happens). Bigger issue was that despite a 3 page report, there was no mention of it being significantly low on AF (prob 8-16 oz; not subtle). On the BMWs/Minis, well, thats important to know. Ive driven the car for about 1-2k miles now and havent seen a leak, but that could have potentially been a big miss.
Ive had Alan and his staff do LOTS of work on my cars over the years. If this says anything...I live over 300 mi away in Alabama and I still take my cars there for major repairs. Alan has been more than accommodating and his staff does fantastic work. I highly recommend their services.
This shop is honest very knowledgeable and very fair priced. I previously took my VW to a dealer and they quoted me over 3000 to repair my car, I took it here and it was a half of the cost and the things that needed to be replaced weren’t even what nalley quoted. German car repair inc is very trust worthy I will continue to take my vw here and any other german cars I purchase.
2003 E46 330I ZHPI wanted to add performance to my bimmer and the one place I trust is GCR! We upgraded the entire suspension to an H&R coilover kit with other various components from Turner Motorsport and BMW stock to have the perfect combination of ride comfort and performance.Michael Spooner did an amazing job, the car feels better than expected! As soon as I picked up my car I took it to Blood Mountain. I mean, if youre gonna do it, do it, the upgrade was flawless. No rattles or clunks and this upgrade really put power down to the road when I needed it. Every turn was tight and the car was very responsive. Thanks Alan for working with me, the service was fantastic! High fives all around!
Fantastic job on fixing the small leak I had from the aging seals on my 2001 turbo with a tiptronic transmission. Porsche and Mercedes refused to admit the transmission was from Mercedes. When they refused to supply the seals Alan, Taylor and other members of GCR came through in flying colors. I am very impressed with GCR and have a new home for anything on need for my car.
Alan Kidson & His Outstanding Service Technicians - This was my first visit to Alans new repair facility. It is a very welcoming and comfortable waiting room environment. The service bays are state of the art. And the best part is the repairs are done properly the first time, are fairly priced with NO surprises when it is time to pay the bill. This entire experience makes my trip from Atlanta to their new location quite worthwhile!!
I had took my 2000 M5 to German Car Repair in Roswell for an oil change I had won at a silent auction. When I checked the oil after about 1000 miles it was a quart and a half over filled and black with carbon contamination.I called the owner of the shop, Alan, to let him know about the issue. He swore that he had watched his guy drain the oil and change the filter so the problem must be in my engine. I made the WTF ever face, told Alan that I disagreed and changed the oil again myself as I normally do. I had not had any other discoloration or contamination issues before or since. While under the car I observed oil around the transmission bell housing. My rear main sell is new so my guess is that they did not fully drain the oil and the excess had been blowing out the seal.Hopefully the overfilling did not cause any real problems and the oil change was just a waste of $100 verse a few thousand. You get one chance to earn a new customer and one chance to make something right when it has been done wrong. This shop blew both opportunities. I would not return to them nor recommend them to anyone I know.
I purchased a 2009 Mercedes GL-450 that was bad out of alignment. The dealer was supposed to fix it as warranty work but after two attempts, it was too much for them to handle. I took it to another Forsyth County mechanic, Herbert Automotive and they said I needed camber adjusters from KMAC installed to fix it(about $1,500 total cost). Then I took it to German Car Repair, after reading the Google reviews. They were able to align my SUV for the standard alignment fee and no additional parts. My GL now drives like it did the day it rolled off the lot. Thank you German Car Repair!!!!! You are AWESOME and have won my business!!!!
An outstanding service location! I have been using German Car Repair (GCR), for almost three years, and this I know:1. GCR provides consistent, professional, competitively priced service for my Mercedes.2. GCR wants me to be satisfied with the service they provide, and considers me as a valued customer.3. I plan to keep and drive this S500 for many more years. GCR keeps my Mercedes reliable and ready to go - anytime and anywhere.4. Having been their customer for a while, GCR ask if I would recommend their business to my friends. - - THIS I GLADLY DO...If you have read this far, you know I am pleased with German Car Repair. Try them - They are excellent...Bill Hackaday - Dunwoody, GA
Ive taken my Benz to GCR several times now after a recommendation from a friend. Ive found them to be good, honest folks. They make very clear up front whats needed and the costs, they stick to it and stick to their time frame for fixing it. They even gave me an overnight loaner when I was in a bind. Alan & Company manage a very professional business and I highly recommend them. Thx GCR guys and gals! Dave Reed - Woodstock GA
If theres anyone out there looking for a great story, then take the time to explore GCRs website. Alans passion and integrity is shared by the entire staff - knowledgeable, professional, and just dead honest! North Atlanta is lucky to have such a talented group of individuals under the same roof. Thank you for taking such good care of my Audi S4!
As a small business owner I pride myself on not just doing the job right the first time but making it right when Ive made a mistake or failed in some way. Im glad for all the GCR customers whose needs were met but feel compelled to share my negative experience. I leave plenty of positive reviews and usually keep my mouth shut if not completely satisfied, but Taylors and Marks obtuse unwillingness to acknowledge any fault demands some exposure. My 2014 Audi S8 (with APR Stage 2 and downpipe) suddenly stopped making power and a check-engine light came on. GCRs diagnosis was a faulty O2 sensor, which they replaced for $5xx and cleared the codes. When I came to pick up the car it still made no power, as if the turbos were not making boost. I pointed this out to them and left the car with them. After hearing nothing for 3 days I checked in to be told we cant do anything without your phone (it connects to the APR bluetooth dongle and determines what performance map is in use). I came in and took Mark for a test ride to demonstrate the lack of power. He insisted it felt like a normal S8, and he and Taylor said there was nothing they could do further without any engine codes. I took the car to AutoBahn Performance (highly recommended and my only choice except for the distance vs. GCR), who within 15 minutes diagnosed a blown turbo. (They charged me nothing for this diagnosis, BTW.) They relayed to me and I verified with some online research that blown turbos in the sportier Audis is quite common. They also told me there are plenty of ways to diagnose this without an engine code. When I returned to GCR they stood by their diagnosis of a faulty O2 sensor and insisted there could have been no mistake in reading the codes. Of course the old O2 sensor had already been discarded, as itd been a week. They tried to tell me that since my car is modified its not easy to know how it should behave. Yes, I question the O2 sensor diagnosis but am willing to concede it. And yes, I question the competence of the technician(s) who failed to notice a blown turbo. But what really irked me is that they refused to acknowledge the failure to diagnose the blown turbo. If I had kept running the car just because it had no engine codes I might have done expensive damage to the engine. So, beware if you are taking your car to GCR for anything other than oil changes and preventative maintenance. If you need extensive Audi/VW experience make the trip down to AutoBahn.
Recenting I was in the market to purchase a pre-owned automobile. Before bringing this car in, I spoke with Allan personally about a couple of different cars I was considering during the process and the consultive advice was invaluable. Once I my search landed on a potential match, I brought thr car in to Allan and his team for a pre-buy check. They spent a couple of hours reviewing the car from top to bottom gave me some great insite into the car their honest opinion and a few tips to assist with my negotiations. This Audi S5, beauty is now all mine and shell be visiting German Car Repair for her regular maintenance routines. I cant thank these guys enough for thier patience and willingness to educate. They helped to make my car buying experience an impecable one!
I am glad I found German Car Repair. Thanks to the many reviews I decided to have my belts, pulleys, tensioners and water pump replaced as part of preventative maintenance on my 2002 BMW 530 which is just over 105,000 miles. Filling out the web form to request maintenance was a breeze and Mr. Kidson responded vial email promptly with a quote. Wael actually did the work on my car and when I picked it up after the work, he took the time to talk to me about the repairs that were made and what I might be needing maintenance on in the future. Very satisfied with the service and will be back.
My BMW 2001 CI convertible top stopped working apparently due to a wire not being connected. GCR repaired the problem and informed me to pick my car and that there would be NO COST. What? FREE! I would dare you to find a dealership or most shop to be this honest. Thank you for making me a believer in humanity again. Please give GCR an opportunity to repair your car so that you can see for yourself. Your car probably won’t be free but I believe it will be reasonable and honestly priced for your repair. Thank you! CWM
Ive been using German Car Repair for years.I have two older German cars, a 1.8T 2001 VW Golf and a 1987 BMW 325i. I follow GCRs service recommendations and have never had issue with either.Would recommend GCR to anyone needing service for VW/Audi, BMW, Mercedes, or Porsche.
This repair shop will take your money. My wife and I took our 2008 BMW X3 here to check an oil leak by the oil filter cap on top of the engine. Their mechanic said it was the oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket. This mechanic also replaced the upper radiator hose( said it had swelling due to oil saturating on it)he also replaced a cooling (water)hose for why? Total for 2 gaskets and 2 hoses a whopping $751.99. Mind you these are all on top of the engine. 4.5 hours of labor. Really!Ok paid it and 9 days later the oil leak is still there. We take it back and they replaced the oil filter cap. A part that cost $43 and guess what it fixed the leak. But it wasnt $43 because labor etc came to $183.43. We asked the very rude and self assured service writer (Taylor)for a reimbursement of a fair nature due to their original misdiagnosis. He gave us a $58 discount. So the total for a oil filter cap cost us $876.99. DO NOT GO HERE
I made a 1pm appointment to replace struts on my VW trunk window....A quick 10 minute job...I supplied the struts...New in box...I thought making the appointment, I would be in/out real quick...I got 2 text messages & 1 email reminding me of the 1pm appointment...For some reason when I got there at 1pm, the Service Consultant said that they had me down at 8am & said they don’t install parts that a customer brings in...They did it anyway & I had to wait just over 1 hour & I was charged $64.98 labor...Double for what I paid for the struts...I’ll still return for future repairs, they do excellent work, but this 1 visit was not a good experience.
Ill try to be short. I own a 95 993 and Im real picky on who I entrust to do work on my baby. I was lucky enough meet and spark up a conversation with a gentleman who owns two. We both traded the names of shops we both use. Did a little research on German Car Repair and kept it in the back of my head. Fast forward I needed an oil change and new cv booth installed. My go to shop was backed up due to the Club Race at Road Atlanta. Soo.....I called GCR and they got me in by weeks end. From the moment Allen introduced himself I felt at ease. Wait it gets better. He gives me a short tour of his shop and introduces me to his 993 guru. Sorry I dont remember his name, my bad. They pointed a few things out that my other shop missed. They came up with a plan that worked for both of us.I though my car was in good running shape, they made it that much better.Thank you Allen and your awesome techs!
I cannot say enough good things about Alan Kidson and his team. They are competent, courteous and accommodating. Prices are reasonable. Alan went the extra mile by shepherding long distance vehicle transport. You could not expect better service. Keep up the good work!

2022-07-07I went there for a battery related issue for my 2017 BMW X1. I called beforehand and asked for service availability and a quote, Chase helped me with both. When I reached they gave me a detailed estimate and returned my car the next day. Overall very smooth great experience, would visit again for any repair on my car.

2022-06-22I have been costumer for 3 years now. The staff at German Cer Repair have always been exceptional, every single time. The customer service has always been amicable, respectful and professional. There is not one single instance where they have charge me or recommend me additional rapairs my car suddenly needs. They look out after for every single one of their costumers, and treat everyone who walks in the same way. They itemized all the repairments and their prices are fair in comparison to market rates. When I think about excellent business, with amazing customer service, and fair prices, German Car repair always comes to mind.Looking forward to my next car service

2022-06-20My first visit was for minor service on a 911, several years ago. This visit was for several maintenance items on an older Golf. I am very pleased with the quality of work at the shop and the integrity of the business. I will definitely be back!

2022-03-06It was a pleasure bringing our vehicle here. The gentlemen at the front desk were professional and knowledgeable. I had to bring it back because a warning light for an unrelated issue was on the display. At no charge they diagnosed the problem and explained it to me. Trustworthy, professional, knowledgeable.

2022-02-23Treated very well. Auto techs did not try to sell me extra services. They checked my coolant and said it is good for another 10,000 miles. Very pleased with GCR.

2022-07-06GRC replaced my clutch and brake fluid. The car was ready on time, the price was reasonable and the car drove amazing afterwards. I was pleasantly surprised how well my car drove (wouldn’t expect anything less) after the work was completed. They also had (albeit a bit old) loaner BMW for me to drive while my car was in the shop. I will certainly be using them in the future.

2022-05-06Marc Delifer and the mechanics are top notch. I used to take my car to G2 automotive (only a few minutes down the road) and I will never return again. G2 is the most unfriendly, least helpful, and greedy business I have ever known. GCR is the complete opposite. A team of complete angels, who are so unbelievably helpful it is crazy. I have had problems with my 2010 328i for months. After taking it to G2 a few times, and having zero problems resolved. I decided to work on it myself. I fixed about 1/2 of the issues, and then became to busy with school to finish the rest. Gave my car to GCR for one day and the report they gave me is the most detailed report I have ever seen. It even includes part numbers and a description of the work they would preform. Marc, said I could work on it myself if I was car savvy enough. The parts are reasonably priced, usually $10-30 more than you could find online. Still beats G2 who dont give you a detailed report, and end up buying the cheapest non-OEM parts but charge you insane rates. I love this place and will only use them from now on.
