If I could give a half star, I would. I bought a remote control car for my son for Christmas. The following day, the wheel fell off. I took it back to either get it fixed or to return it. Dave was extremely rude. He tried to sell me a tool set to fix it. I was quite annoyed as we had only had the car for ONE DAY! It was not cheap, so I definitely expected it to last longer than a day. His response was sometimes that happens. After a heated exchange, he fixed the wheel, and then THREW the remaining parts towards me! I will NEVER purchase another piece of JUNK from this place!!!
Been in the RC hobby for alittle over a year now and Dave has been very helpful along my journey into the hobby! From my first Traxxas Slash 2wd that I managed to break every other week to the Xmaxx 8s I now own. Always has good advice and is very knowledgeable about everything in the RC hobby. Definitely would recommend
Now if you have seen any of my other reviews you know I dont hold back and sometimes brutally honest. I went yesterday to get a hobby grade 4×4 truck ,to see this messy store and a grouch named Dave. After over two hours of looking and watching and listening I will tell you a few things.1. If you had people picking stuff up and looking at it then placing it back anywhere close to its spot all day,it is going to get messy! 2.They have gone to far lengths to stock as much fun inside as they can for a wide variety of different hobbies. It is not a big cold box store, its a family friendly local Hobby Store. As for the grouch named Dave.If you had as many people coming at you asking questions while you were answering another question and other people are calling you from the other side of the store, you would loose your mind. Not Dave,he might seemed annoyed and you probably did something rude like thinking you dont have to wait your turn. You wait your turn and be polite and you will get probably some of the best knowledge and service you ever had.Dave got me the spare battery to go with my new truck and it was the longer lasting one I wanted but didnt have to ask.The fact that Dave knows where everything is in the whole place is simply amazing and I doubt you know where every single thing is in your home.Dave is awesome!!! Go visit this place,be polite, feel like a kid again and you will see like I did.PS going back in two days to get a real fast boat and maybe a trailer also to hook up to my new 4×4
This Hobby shop is great the staff goes above and beyond to help you in anyway they can. I go in at least once a week to get the products and help I need for my new found love of RC Trucks. Highly recommended for anyone who is just getting into the hobby or even the more experienced. If they dont have it or dont know they will be sure to get you what you need.
Awesome place. So much merchandise and yes it’s cluttered but does have basic organization. I don’t mind because every time you visit you’ll find something you didn’t see before. Dave is awesome. I’ve been going here since I was a kid when I’d go with my dad to shop for his planes.
This is a compliment to all who are hobbyists. What looks like a mess to some is a ton of treasure to most. This place has everything cool that no other store could remotely carry. I recommend this place and for people to discover the treasure inside. Wonderful place to start to teach and do activities with the children at home.
Good place to go when first getting into the hobby. The place is really disorganized and only the owner knows where things are. Expect to climb around and search through storage totes if you want to find a particular part like batteries, props or anything small. Prices could be lower but I don’t think hobbytown will be changing prices ever. It’d be nicer to have a cared for hobby shop in this town with a owner who’s organized and helpful.
Dave is the man! He replaced my spur gear for me today for only $10 bucks!!!! ..... he did the work and didn’t complain a bit! I’ve been there three times and they always have exactly what I need and answer any questions I have. Screw buying online I like having a real person to do business with and If I ever have any questions they help me. Thanks again!!!
Owners were the NICEST people! Beyond good customer service! Gave me fantastic advice and took the time to provide me with one on one interaction. I found what I was looking for here after searching for a specific item for about a month.I know this all sounds contrived and bombastic, but SERIOUSLY (!) - I cant articulate how cool and helpful they were with me and my niche, esoteric predicament. Also without the feeling that you get at most other retail places that they cant be bothered or are faking their sincere concern for your issue.Highly recommended! 👍👌
Overall a very good store if youre a serious model buyer. The prices are a little high, but then again you look at the product and it looks amazing. This is overall a great store, the only thing besides the prices (which are understandable) is the organization. I wish they could organize their models (tanks, aircraft etc.) under nationality so you can see whats available.
I own four different RC cars xmax was my latest purchase. Dave that runs that shop is more knowledgeable than anybody Ive ever met. They will work on your RC car. The people that complain about them being slow working on their RC cars. LEARN how to work on your own s*** . These type of people that just drop their cars off in millions of pieces expect them just to fix it and get it done. This is an extra service they offer to help out the customer.
I love mr. Daves HobbyTown USA. I build gundams and mess around with RC cars. The prices are pretty decent. Only thing is is you might have to check modern pricing on older objects, because of the internet these days you most likely can find it cheaper. But cant beat it for convenience sake. It is a little over stoked a lot guess more to choose from.
Used to shop here back in the 90s. Went back and looked around. The older gentleman (Dave) was talking to another customer about RC cars, so I waited. When he asked if I needed any help, I asked about N Scale train engines. He shifted gears and spent about five minutes with me discussing differed engines and couplings with the knowledge I would expect from someone that only sold trains. These guys seam to carry everything. The store is cluttered and a little messy, but dont let the deter you from asking if they have what youre looking for.
Dont go expecting to get help or advice. If you are an experienced hobbyist and know what you want this might place might work for you. Otherwise the staff will treat you with disregard and consider you a waste of time. It is not beginner friendly and only interested in their regulars. Not to mention the place is a wreck inside and cluttered with inventory. Everything you actually need will be locked behind glass doors that take 30 min or longer to find someone to open them. There is a reason small local stores are dying and this is a prime example. Save yourself the headache and shop online.
Worst hobby town I have ever been to. So unorganized, they have products floor to ceiling just stacked, grouped together at best. The staff is not friendly or helpful at all. Youll go up to the cash register and theyll be right there and wont acknowledge you for about 5-10 minutes. So short and rude. We went 4 times and each time was the same. Do not recommend and will never be returning.
Dave knows his stuff!!- yes store is packed, but how else is gona have that one part for your car? Ive bought 8 cars from him . I can call any time he knows my name i tell him what problem Im having with what car and by the time I get there he already has all my parts on the counter! !! NOT LIKE OTHER HOBBY STORE IN .... they did nothing but mess up every car I gave them will always use Dave! !! Hobbytown rocks:) ..
I just moved into town, and Dave was great. He got me the names and numbers of the key folks who are running the local airfields so I could set up a guest-fly. Theres a lot of inventory in the store, but that just means that they are more likely to have what I need when I go there. Bunches of ARFs, parts, parts, and more parts. Like it!
Im stationed here as a wounded warrior and got back into the hobby at age 39 to have fun and releave stress. They are always busy so if you need help just ask. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and have a massive stock. Im a big kid in a candy store there and will always be back for more projects. Why wait for online orders when you can get it now and support your local and only real Hobby Shop in this area. A +
I love the store. Its a treasure trove that you can spend hours in. For those who want clean shelves, stick to the internet for your stuff. So what if its messy, thats stock that doesnt fit on the shelves.Dave and staff are always glad to see you and they know what they have in stock.
This store is extremely cluttered, but Dave knows where everything is. It is mostly not Daves fault that it is cluttered, because the store itself is too small. To give you an idea of what it looks like, it looks like the security footage from stores that had an earthquake in them, and everything went everywhere. Speaking of security footage, anything worth five dollars or more is locked up in glass cabinets. It is old school, but the glass cages ruin the feeling. People say buying things in stores is better because you can hold the product in your hands before you buy it, but here the product is locked up behind glass. Dave, if your reading this, just put up security cameras! You already have 4K drone cameras!Dave has two characters. The nice Dave answers your questions nicely, smiles often, and treats you like a best friend. The weird/rude Dave is overprotective, and walks away from you like you have some deadly disease, waits until you ask a question three times until he mumbles grumbly something like, Grupph pufumph xzcvnbm. , or he will answer a question like you are stupid if you dont know. That is why some reviews are five stars because they get the nice Dave, and some are one star because they get the weird/rude Dave. Also the weird/rude Dave silently follows you around the store, replacing everything you touch.
I would not purchase from this store. I had a bad experience once when I was a teenager back 1997-98 with being followed around the store by some older gentleman . The store was very narrow then and had a huge selection of kits and parts. I remember coming in and slowly making my way around the store(hands in pocket) from right to left and being trailed by some guy who made his actions no secret as he readjusted any item I put my hand on, Never once did he acknowledge my presence with a Hello or let me know if you need any assistance. He just gave a stern serious look and seem to have ignored my salutation. I have always been interested in RC and even as a kid I could appreciated the craftsmanship of a decent radio controlled vehicle compared to the toys given to me at Christmas. Now that I am a much older gentleman myself, I purchased my younger brother his first hobby grade rc, the traaxas rustler from Pepboys and was reminded of this experience.
I found this place searching for a store that sold Gundam model kits. Not only did they have a large selection of Gundam model kits, they also had a variety of other models from cars to trains or from Stat Wars to Star trek. Everytime I visit I find something new and exciting. I recommend Hobbytown USA to all enthusiasts from beginner to expert!
Get in, get out, get gone.Dont like this place at all. This was my first time visiting since I was little back in the late 90s, and its gotten much worse, or perhaps I was too young to see this establishments shortcomings. The other Google reviews are accurate, this place is disorganized and has an uneasy vibe to it. Hard to locate things, I didnt bother. I came through the door, said good morning ,and let the counterman know EXACTLY what I was looking for. Easy sale, I knew any hobby store would carry the product in question. And as somebody who works in retail this is the best kind of customer, they know what theyre looking for, if its in stock go get it, ring it up and its an easy sale. But this guy had absolutely no enthusiasm. Perhaps he didnt take me seriously from the moment I walked in, perhaps it was from the color of my skin, but I think it much more likely from the fact I was young. Im just a guy in my 20s trying to pick up some quick supplies. In summary, theyre the only ones around, avoid their business if at all possible, and if you do need something from them, call to make sure they have it stock. And make them go get it when you get there. Its not worth walking around the store to get your product; just wait at the front counter, and do your browsing on the internet.Your experience here will be painful, fleeting at best
Thanks for helping me get that servo figured out on my RC Dave. As to the cry baby below . Carlos Carter probably just got too excited and drove his new rc into a brick wall on his first day since he is not used to that kind of speed......The Rc car was not junk as he called it. The operator is .
A little disappointed with this place. The staff were pretty friendly, when theyre not swamped all of the customers / repairing of devices in the store. The enormous amount of product stacked from floor to ceiling is a bit overwhelming. After attempting to get a sold out item for over a month, I gave up.
I just left the place after being more uncomfortable than ive ever had to be in a place of business. I walked in to look at planes and to sell a Helicopter, the old man followed me like a stalker as i walked around. when i asked him about an item, he was very rude and blunt about it and did not answer my question. when i asked if they would buy my helicopter he said we dont do that! rude tone. so i just walked out. I do not recommend this place to anybody
High quality goods at great prices (at least for the Gunpla models I was buying to finally start the hobby) the clerk I originally talked to on the phone was awful, but the owner and her employee who was there when I arrived were fantastic help and very polite people.
Went in with the intention of buying an Axial ACX10 Honcho & when I asked about whether or not they had it, was simply told no. Thats it; no one offered to tell me when more might be in coming in, whether or not they could order one for me, nothing. I asked about a couple of other items, too, & was told if we have it, itll be over there. The entire staff just seemed totally uninterested in selling me anything. This was my first & last time purchasing from this place. Unfortunately, its about the only hobby store in my area, so it looks like Ill be doing all of my shopping online from now on.
Do you like hobbies that involve plastic bits? Of course you do or you wouldnt be reading this. Do you like RC airplanes and cars? Train sets? Yeah? Well, I dont. But if you answered Yes, guy, now go on with the review, have I got a store for you! This place.Imagine if your grandpa was a hoarder of boxes filled with plastic bits. Then imagine he took his hoard and put it in a storefront. Then imagine that a tornado hit it. That is what this place looks like and it is glorious. See, if you know exactly what you want, chances are you will find it. But you will likely also see things that you didnt even know you needed. It is a cramped, jumbled chaos of models and modeling equipment.Dont be put off by the straightforward demeanor of the owner - he is obviously running a successful business doing something he likes doing and is helpful. So, if you get excited about the craziest stocking of shelves (and floor, and any flat surface) and you like straight forward service with little snall talk AND most importantly, walking out of the store with something that scratches your hobby-itch... You have found your new home.
Junk piled everywhere nobody will acknowledge your even in there and when you ask questions they act like you should already know ... They do have every part you will ever need (if u can find it ) and after you pry there can of knowledge open they know there stuff but dont take your car there for a tune up they will give you the run around and act like its your fault for them not keeping up with your car. Anyway point is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL .

2022-02-262022-02: This is a great hobby store with owners who know what they are talking about. Ive come here several times over the past few years looking for several things. The most recent visit was a few days ago to find books on military/war information with my son. We found him several books as well as a model jet kit to do.They have a great selection of model planes, tanks, cars, trucks, trains and a lot more. Huge selection of model train and accessories for building scale train displays. Also, a good variety of STEM based kits, working rockets, all sizes of RC cars, planes, and boats, wood burning supplies, Melissa & Doug toys, and SO much more.Ill keep coming to this store as long as they are open and recommend others try for themselves.

2022-02-03I would have to say, if you need anything for R/C supplies or parts, its worth the trip. Very nice husband and wife I would say the owners, they have more parts, tires bodys, its a wonderful experience. I will be back to purchase a 1/8 scale truggy. I would drive 2 hrs just to go there, than get it from anywhere else.

2022-03-21Its like a museum for hobbyists. I could and do wander around for hours and i love the mess. Its not a place for Karens, yall should stay in Hobby Lobby and buy a Cricut.

2021-07-30What a wonderful little gem of a place to get lost in. I went in there looking for Gundam Models and was not disappointed. There are tons of models from planes, jets, battleships, cars, rc cars, rocket propelled craft, misc electric motors, small tires etc.... Its a great place for kids and adults or if youre someone simply trying to figure out what you want to invest your time in

2020-04-09I drive 1.5 hrs to shop with Dave. I live in Lexington SC. I always call and check on what I need before I drive to Augusta, He always has what I need in stock. Do not pay attention to the negative Nancy’s, more than likely they are not hobby people, this store is a hobby enthusiasts dream. While other Shops fall to Online purchasing this shop keeps chugging along strong. Great customer service, always well stocked and Expert knowledge that’s how you stay in business. You will not regret doing business here!

2019-11-04Dave is the Man.He carries hobby supplies that only the best stores would even hope to have. Add to that, he is amazing at remembering info and double checks on line if in doubt. I’ve seen him help repair folks stuff in the store - good luck finding that elsewhere.Just don’t be in a hurry, but that should be a very minor issue when you’re trying to get an RC plane, truck or other back in operation ...

2019-08-13Im new to the area and dont know many places to go for hobby projects for my son. I lucked up and found Hobby Town. This hobby shop is remarkable. I have NEVER met a more customer oriented and friendly business in ANY niche including hotel, restaurant, spa or store. Ive only been in Hobby Town when Dave the owner was there. He is very knowledgeable and cares about each project like it was his project. He has a big selection but on the off chance he doesnt have something you need, he will offer to special order it for you. If you need it sooner, he will recommend you to go to his competitors stores. He gives you names addresses and directions. This is an awesome shop! I will continue going and recommending others. Thank you Dave and Hobby Town!

2021-01-23First of all, if I could give this place ZERO stars I would. My husband called yesterday about the xmaxx traxxas in orange. We called on our way there today (over an hour drive). We got there and all we left with was a bad taste in our mouths. The box had been pulled. We looked it over after walking around the store. Well, by walking around I mean shoving ourselves against the overflowing inventory because it was so cluttered. We went to the register and I told the woman there that we were the ones who called about the xmaxx and before I could even mention the battery/charger combo she said, “he’ll be back in a minute,” and turned her back on us to continue a conversation with someone else. Not someone checking out just someone chatting. We waited another 15-20 minutes and saw who must be the guy she was talking about walk in and she didn’t even blink an eye knowing we were waiting to spend well over $1,000. It’s not just about the money we were there to spend. There were people of minorities who also saw no customer service with another employee standing right there. We’re just buying online. We might be young and not regulars but our money is just as good as everyone else’s. What a shame.
