House of Lu in other cities:
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. The had a nice selection of drinks and my server recommended a pineapple infused vodka martini. It had just the right amount of sweetness and tartness. My son ordered just the plain fried rice which he enjoyed and I had the Zsechun chicken which was made with all white meat chicken stir fried with a number of vegetables. The sauce was pretty spicy but you can always let them know to make it less spicy.
Been eating here for years... both dine in and take away!! The food is excellent... always!! Very consistent, which is the only way to keep my business tbh ... consistency! I normally get the Pho Tai (eye of round steak)... just ordered it again today for lunch! Once again... spot on!!
Absolutely amazing! I visit Atlanta a lot for business and I think Ive tried ever pho/asian fusion type place and this is hands down the best. The restaurant is super cute and in the most lovely neighborhood. The manager came and talked to me about the food and she was very passionate about it and my expierences there. I highly recommend if you are vegetarian (and not! Lol) they had great options. I had the vegetable pho and the egg rolls. Im not sure why it has $$ for price because honestly it was way cheaper than other pho places Ive been that arent as good. I was recommended by Alton Browns (if you are foodie youll know who he is) top 6 places to eat in Atlanta and he did not disappoint. :D
I have never eaten here but I passed it today and considered it so I came to check out the reviews. The response from the owner to the middle age black lady that felt she was treated unfairly due to her skin color was VERY unprofessional. Regardless if it were true or not the management response was immature, tacky, and not handled well at all in my opinion. And people feeling like they may have gotten subpar service because of their skin color is NOY why we are in the predicament we are in so that part could have definitely been left out.
Great. The pho was delicious. My 4 yr old loved her shrimp fried rice from there. She basically ate an adult portion and its usually a fight to get her to finish a chicken tender. The owners were great hosts and very gracious. Our 9m old was asleep when we came in and they offered pillows and blankets. They gave us recommendations on things to do while we were in town. Overall fantastic experience.
Food was served hot. Food was stereotypical American-style Chinese food. We ordered the PuPu Platter (all unfortunately greasy), Shrimp lo mein, Pho, and Sesame chicken (most on the recommendation of the server). If you had blindfolded me and told me it was Panda Express I would have believed you.
Ok... So this place, we were out walking the square. Bumped into this magical location. So if you are ready for this culinary Nasa type adventure. Get ready with 3...2...1... Blast off! With a tasty cocktail. Made right in front of me (sitting at the bar) then coast into orbit mode with a delicious appetizer, grab any of theyre skewers or any other app. Then re-enter the atmosphere with a delightful pho or main meal plate. As you land dont forget the tab and tip well to these wondetful humans
The setting here is really nice, the service is good, and the place is neat and clean. The food is so so. I ordered a Honey pork appetizer that was overly sweet and tasted more like sugar than honey. I also ordered pork fried rice that was okay. My wife ordered the pho and it was too salty. I can say that we have been here before and the owner did make a fantastic cocktail. He was personable and entertaining. I would go back and try something g else on the menu. Overall they are worth a visit.
Very disappointed with Service today.I was seated immediately, since I was the only patron dining in @ 5:30pm today.Waited for 10 minutes until I had to beckon someone for water and to take order. The Asian lady behind bar, walked away towards the back, the older Asian man remained seated behind the bar as I could hear his voice. Finally a black young lady strolled out to assist Me.5 minutes later an older White lady with a kid walked in and was serviced IMMEDIATELY.As a middle aged black woman this is very disheartening to still see in 2021.Unfortunately the food is sub par considering how very good it use to be here.
I have eaten here many times over the years but moved away. I returned to Marietta and living only 2 blocks away, it was one ofthe restaurants I was so looking forward to dining. It has been remodeled in a very attractive decor that leans more toward mixed drinks than dining. The menu selection had all my favorites and I was looking forward to introducing my friend to great Chinese.Unfortunately I was very disappointed. She was thefirst to complain her spring or egg rolls did not taste fresh and cold in the center. I brushed it off as being picky. But when I started eating from the center of my General Tsosand it wasnt even warm inI was very disappointed. There was a bit of broccoli the size of a tablespoon on the side that was very cold. The waiter had only been there a month. Neither of us cared for the taste of our meal as well. We called the manager/owner over and she told us the piece of broccoli was intended to be cold. She did offer to heat our food up and was gracious. Now that I have read the reviews, I feel our opinion is not unfair but a similar experience of some others. Especially with the pandemic going on, food should be served piping hot and certainly have better quality food for the price. Maybe you need a more authentic chef? I may try you in another 6 months because I truly would like to patronize you.
Reasonable prices, and solid food. This is a dine-in Chinese restaurant and the quality of ingredients is a significant step-up from your standard Chinese takeout places, and more flavor.Their dinner portions are pretty big. My wife and I can easily share. I got the spicy Kung Pao Chicken, it was actually spicy, and it wasnt just a pile of chicken. There were carrots, celery, water chestnuts, peanuts, maybe some other things. It resulted in a flavorful, well-textured dish. The contrast between the crunch of the peanuts/water chestnuts/celery paired well with the softer texture of the chicken.Ultimately, if I want good Chinese food, I make it at home, or come here.
Ordered through Uber Eats and House of Lu got my entire order wrong. They even wrote my name on the bag, then they were blaming the Uber Eats courier. We waited an hour. I called to get my order again, and they said that they are not responsible for a third party “mistake”. And that they don’t give free food (although it was their mistake). Oh, and according to them, the manager was not in to help us out. Not happy!
I like hot, spicy food but the broccoli and beef and Hunan Pork was inedibly hot. The chef obviously didn’t follow the recipe for it was horrible. I called the restaurant to report this (we had it carry-out delivery) and was told simply that they would put it in their notes that I didn’t like the dishes hot. It wasn’t “hot” it was so hot we couldn’t eat it. I felt like I was blown off with the call. There are lots of Chinese food places... we’ll look elsewhere.
This was some of the best Chinese food my wife and I have had in a while. We ordered pepper steak and chicken with vegetables and they were both outstanding. The veggies were crisp and delicious and the meat was cooked perfectly and not chewy.I will say that we ordered this over the phone for pick up and once we got home realized we had the wrong food. The we called back and they quickly made it right and we went back and got the right food. Great customer service; will definitely eat here again.
I got my food to go from Uber Eats today & it was super cold. And it wasn’t the delivery persons fault I tracked my order and it kept saying processing order and was delayed 3x. And when it was ready the person gor here at a good time after it was ready. But anyways the food was cold not even semi warm. It looked really bad & my hot and sour soup was mostly broth it was very watered down. I was excited to try this place because of the reviews but it was not worth it. This looks like it was sitting for a good hour.
Easily the best Chinese food Ive had since moving to the Atlanta area. The service is outstanding. We came on Christmas Day and even though they were busy we never felt like we werent valued. I just found out I have a gluten, dairy, soy, yeast free diet and the manger came and spoke with me about what I could eat and it was just a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back!
We really wanted to eat here Monday night (always seems like Monday’s we want Pho), however outside seating wasn’t available. I realize outside isn’t the easiest when short of staff, but I called back to ask if we could order to go and eat there- nope. While the outside sitting is limited we’re also in a pandemic. I do find it funny the reason outside isn’t open is because Mondays are slow. You would have at least had 1 more customer if it was open. To the food when we can eat here the Pho was always fantastic. I’m more disappointed with options to eat here now.EDIT from Response:Completely understand and accept House of Lu’s response. I’d still state best Pho in Atlanta.
Ordered the coconut shrimp because the restaurant lists it as one of its best sellers ... The shrimp did not taste fresh; it almost had a dirty taste. It tasted so off that we returned the meal because we could barely it any of he shrimp. I can’t speak to the quality of the coconut sauce because the sauce was so overpowered by the shrimp’s weird taste. Also the fried rice that accompanied the shrimp was very bland.
Long time repeat customer ate there Nov 29 with my wife for our anniversary dinner and had a horrific experience where a restaurant employee stole a valuable personal item (anniversary gift to my wife) from our table during dinner and then denied it. We called the police and filed a theft report. Long story short is the next day the restaurant confirmed the theft was by the employee and I did recover the item. Oh, I was fully charged for dinner and did pay the bill. Awesome way to celebrate our anniversary and obviously I will never eat there again, and neither should you.
Occasionally dine in this establishment. Tonight decided to order take away. Ordered the hot and sour soup, and a ban mi sandwich.I have had it before there. The soup was delicious. Enjoyed. The sandwich was a disappointment. The bread was just a sub roll instead of a crispy baguette. No patè. No veg. Just a tiny amount of wilted slaw. It was sesame chicken that was fried and heavily sauced in a sub roll. Was not even remotely close to what was served before. I was in the parking lot when ordered so it didn’t sit long.Did not enjoy it. Don’t think I will come back for a while.
Good food. Your traditional American-Chinese but better than most of that variety. Spring rolls are always fresh and piping hot. Fried dough things are really great, though you need a big group to make them worth ordering. Entree options are good.I’m not a fan of the inside decor and prefer to eat outside. Inside feels too dark with the heavily tinted windows and too cold with the design. That said I’ve never been in a Chinese restaurant where the ambience was high.
If you live in an apartment complex with a gate, prepare for complaints from their drivers and for them to refuse delivery. I’ve ordered take out often from multiple places with no problems and they are consistently the only delivery service with issues. On top of this, my order has been wrong several times, which is frustrating to realize after waiting an hour and a half for food and receiving attitude from the driver about the gate, which I have no control over.Food is good, but customer service is HIGHLY lacking. Certainly not worth the headache. They’ve definitely lost a once loyal customer.
The food is alright here, large selection of Asian cuisine. The interior decoration is nice and service is great. Ive been here twice now for special occasions and I think my impression of the food might be because I havent found something I really like off the menu yet. My only gripe is that they wouldnt let us bring a birthday cake in and said we would be charged a fee for doing so. I think thats a bit ridiculous, especially when you already pay so much for the food. So, my view of this place is pretty mixed. Also, parking around the Marietta Square is hard to find unless you pay to park in the parking deck nearby.
Hoping for a great meal, I brought mom, who was visiting from NC, on a Sunday night. Maybe they had the B crew? We were very disappointed! The cashew chicken was too sweet with lots of carrots, almost no cashews, and it was not hot when put down; had to send it back to warm it up! The beef vegetable was way too salty! Service was lukewarm. And the place was cold inside with awful, blasting pop music. My prior lunch experience was very good. But after this, I wont go back...
Good food, decent price, but terrible service. I got a shrimp and tofu pho with hot tea and it was a good meal. Our waitress took forever to initially come to our table to take our order and then later tried to walk away from us as we asked for the bill. The food was good kJust hope you get a server who knows what they are doing?
GREAT PLACE FOR LARGE GROUPS I went for a work lunch with 8 people it was spacious and the food was very good. My fave item was the calamari its not heavily breaded deep fried. Also sesame chicken was yummy and cut in small pieces which i prefer instead of big chunks. Lastly the food was very nicely presented and service was great during the lunch hour.
Pretty good food and pretty good service mark this place. The shrimp was especially good. Its gluten free and vegetarian friendly and wheelchair accessible.Often there is parking on the street just north of the restaurant. The soups are also strong contenders and they have a full bar!.
Brought the wife and kids for lunch. Was not very busy. The manager was engaging and helped with the high chairs. The food was why I came. I had the tofu johnnys special banh mi sandwich and it was delicious. Good sized sandwich but the shrimp chips didnt really hold their own as a side. Very nice flavors. Fresh, sweet and a little spicy. I enjoyed it. The place has a modern classy vibe to it with two large murals that are pretty well done. Outside seating seemed popular between the entrance and the street.
Food and atmosphere was great. Service was not. I stood there for a minute to be seated and there was no one at the front. The waitress kept walking by without saying anything to me and another gentleman. So I seated myself at the bar knowing at some point the bartender would show. He did not. I stopped the waitress I had seen earlier so I could get service. Still no greeting. She gave me a menu and took my order. I was on lunch so I already knew what I wanted. About two mins later the bartender showed up. Never spoke to me. Waitress came back fast with my drink. My food came out hot and quick. It was GREAT! I had the chicken and broccoli lunch special. My egg roll was late but it came in a reasonable time. By this time another bar tender had showed up. He never spoke or asked if I needed anything. Nothing. I asked for chopsticks he passed them to me. That was it. Then I paid for my food and left. Im a big customer service geek so the fact that my presence as a paying customer would was not really acknowledged and I had to ask for everything makes me not want to come back.
Food was very very bland. We did not enjoy the food at all. Plus I did not get my chicken egg roll either. Had to add soy sauce to my shrimp fried rice which I never have to when ordered at other Chinese restaurants. The girl that delivered my food was very pleasant. They may want to consider hiring another cook. Food was not good
Love love this place the best food ever. I have moved out of state and have not found anything like it anywhere so whenever I am on Gerogia I always come here. It definitely is a family favorite. Great service we even sat and talked with Mama Lu so so yummy. the atmosphere is so neat. Definitely a must.
The first time my coworkers and I ate lunch here they were fast in bring us our food. We ate, talked, and realized that we still had an additional 30 min. left over from our hour break. We continue to come here time and time again for that reason. The food is delicious, the artwork on the walls are very modern and funky, the owner and staff are also very nice. Every time we come here we have a great experience.
I have eaten at so many pho places that enjoying a pho date night with my gf on the square was a no brainier. Unfortunately when I got my bowl of water noodles I knew right away I was charged for pho but it was actually bland soupy water with bland meat and bad tasting noodles, adding saracha didnt even help it. When a big guy doesnt finish his soup meal asking if everything was ok is a joke when the soup is barley touched...that was a 40 dollar meal that I could have gone anywhere else and felt like I was getting a quality date night instead of wasting my time and money.
Ive been wanting to try this place, and finally decided to tonight. Im very glad I did, I was not disappointed! We started with the pu pu platter and all of it was delicious, especially the beef skewers. For my meal I got chicken pho, also delicious. Ive never had pho before today but I cant imagine having anything better. The portions were big for the price. Our waiter, Chris, was awesome. He was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Great first experience. Ill be returning for sure!!
I go to this unique restaurant from time to time because I enjoy the special atmosphere that is exist in this place. The staff is extraordianrillyremarkably helpful and professional. The service is certainly efficient. Most important, the food they prepare is exceptionaly good. I frequent more than once and I was always delighted. The rate is modest. I highly recommend this restaurant to to all.
I like the atmosphere and it was nice and warm on a cold night! Our waiter was great, too. I got MuShu pork and my husband got the Pho. My MuShu was pretty average and could have been a little more flavorful, but it wasnt bad. My husband thought the same about his dish. An overall pleasant experience but weve had better food elsewhere.
Great vibe and food. We went for lunch. The new remodel is BEAUTIFUL! My husband and I greatly enjoyed the overall experience. Staff is very welcoming and personable. They treated us like regulars. Our waitress recommended Hunan chicken and shrimp and it was amazing. The perfect portion. We will be back as often as we are in Marietta!
Very nice atmosphere with indoor /outdoor seating. They do offer a lunch menu from 11:00 until 3:00, but are closed on Tuesday. I had the Hunan chicken which came with fried rice and a very small vegetable roll. Service was prompt and attentive. The food was very good, however the portions did seem small for the price which fit lunch ranged from $7.75 up. Soup is extra and at lunch costs $2.75. It is centrally located on the Marietta Square and its easy to walk to if you are on jury duty and have an hour for lunch.
The General Tsos Chicken had no spice and was a bit flat. My Pho only tasted of Star Anise, with no depth at all. The basil that I was served was old, with dried up ends. The kitchen did not get the tendons into the bowl, while the beef slices were about as appealing as wet cardboard. The noodles were sadly overcooked, so I chose to stop eating there dish at this point. The server was overwhelmed and served us a bottle of wine that was already opened and then did not pour any...He just left the bottle on the table with the cork sticking out of the top and two empty glasses. I really couldnt believe it. A disappointing experience all around.
We ordered dinner to go last night since we were trying to find a good place near our home. Unfortunately, I still havent felt great since eating the basil chicken that I ordered last night. I did not know it was so spicy and it was mostly onions, very little chicken. Sad but will look onto other places close by.
My parents dine here weekly and made a big rave about it, so I decided to tag along one day and I must say the food is delish, the younger staff is really friendly, however the older ones are kind of stale. I ordered the combo pho soup and it was by far the best pho Ive tried I. The area. Portion sizes are good and can be shared (if you dont eat a lot). Price is moderate but good for the quality and portions!!! The setting is nice great dining spot for girls or bros night also great for date nights with you honey!!!
I love House of Lu. I called for a delivery order because I am sick. John was so helpful in helping me pick out the soup that was best for my cold. Who does that anymore? Who helps their customers by showing they care? The beef broth was perfect. The Food is always good and fast delivery. I love to visit the restaurant but their delivery service is the best.
One of the first places I dined when I first moved to the marietta area. Food is good. My complaints has been with the service here. Last year I placed an order for delivery that was messed up. A few items were missing no big deal, I wasnt charged for the missing items. They however refused to come back out deliver the items even when I offered to pay. That left a bad taste so I didnt order from them in a while. Well today I felt like giving them another chance after a almost a year. Called for a delivery and the young man informed me that they cannot deliver to my home. I explained to him that i did live within the 5 mile radius required and in fact i have had delivery from this restaurant in the past. The young man told me they no longer deliver to this area because of incidents with credit card scams. I just hung up. Even if that were true, it might be better to not make a potential customer feel like a criminal. Food here is not so good that Im gonna tolerate a slap in the face twice. Please work on this guys.
Pho, crab ragoon, and poo poo platter were amazing BUT the bah mi was terrible. It was like sweet and sour chicken on a sub. Ive never seen that kind of chicken used and its the wrong decision. The service was amazing. Our waiter was a very polite and attentive young man.
The staff was friendly and attentive but the homemade dumplings werent any good. Frozen and bland (one was still a little frozen in the center). How do I know they are from the freezer (other than the ice crystals)?? Because when I use to work in another local place we had the exact same ones (they are from a whole sale company). Good memories but I was hoping for a delicate and fragrant homemade dumpling. I havent tried any other items yet, so, I dont want to discount this place just yet.
Good food and excellent service. The waiter was attentive without being intrusive. The manager checked in to make sure everything was okay. The food was not earth-shattering but was very good and reasonably priced. My only complaint is that the entrees were not served to my companion and me at the same time. We will definitely go back, though.
Food is delicious I think they have the best general chicken I have ever had. Only downfall is that it’s best to eat here during lunch hours as you receive more food 11-3pm.I accidentally ordered during dinner hours and wasn’t pleased with my portion size but I was very satisfied with the quality of my food.Major plus they deliver but only within a certain area maybe you’re luckier than I am 😊
Gave this place a shot since my wife was craving chinese food. I dont know what all the hype is about but this was not good chinese food. The vegetable spring roll was not fresh and the sesame chicken tasted like a homemade kit you can make at home. The kitchen did not prep any dumplings so we didnt get to try that. Ive tried many chinese eateries (Hong Kong, Hawaii, California, Las Vegas) and this is on the bottom of my list. It may be good in Marietta Square, but Id rather drive a few more miles for something better.
This is my go to Pho place. Restaurant is clean, service is quick, food is great!I am disgusted to see the below 1 Star review by the person who did not leave a tip. These people make less than minimum wage and live off of your tips. Your bill was for the food, not the service provided - I am glad she embarrassed you in front of your girlfriend. Do not go out to eat if you cannot afford to tip. This restaurant is really inexpensive, so I cant imagine how $5.00 would have bankrupted you. Next time, go to McDonalds.
Cannot say enough good things about this place! Service was excellent from the time my family walked through the doors, the food was more than I expected! So so sooo good! We got crab Rangoon, spare ribs, General tso chicken and the coconut shrimp! The coconut shrimp was the best Ive ever had!! Im not sure what that sauce was But I would buy it by the bottle if possible. The only problem I had was the broccoli was a bit undercooked but everything else was so perfect I still give them 5 stars. Best Chinese food in Marietta/Kennesaw/Smyrna treat yourself and visit house of lu!
My family went here on the day that my Grandfather died. I have eaten here before and have had problems with them putting meat in my food. I am vegan and ordered the vegetable pho with vegetable broth, specifically said no meat to avoid the situations that happened previously. About the time I had finished my meal, I found chicken in my food and I was very upset. It was too much on top of the death in our family. I will not go back.
House of Lu welcomes a modern design and welcoming vibes, staff is friendly and attentive. If you are looking for authentic pho or Chinese food, this is not your place. The dishes are very bland and lack flavor. Sad to say this place has taken Americanization a few steps to far.
I enjoyed this Pho spot pretty well. The veggies are very fresh and the bahn mi are on a nice crusty baguette :) the thai tea is a little too sweet but cant complain much. Food comes out quickly and service is friendly. We will be returning 👍. -1star because coolantro is not served with the pho.
It is okay. It is nice inside as for the appearance of the restaurant. But when I go to a Chinese restaurant, I want to hear Chinese music... not Pop music from our local music station. I hear enough of that from other local restaurants. So when I go to a Chinese restaurant, Im there because I want something different... to experience something different from what I normally get elsewhere locally including the music.I left there feeling disappointed this time around.
Not very accommodating ... I was trying to make a reservation for tonight for 7:15 for 3 people. However, I was told that they only make reservations for 4 or more people. I explained the reason why I was making a reservation; that my father is disabled and we were requesting a booth. Due to his neuropathy & polymytositis low chairs are physically impossible for him. However, the young man informed me that they cannot do reservations for 3 and it may not be that packed around 7:15. We really do not want to drive 20 minutes to this restaurant and hope there is a booth available for my handicapped father, so we took our business elsewhere! The man clearly on the phone stated that they could NOT take a reservation, however, usually around 7:15 there were tables open. Not a guaranteed reservation. No confirmation. It was stated clearly that they could not make a reservation for 3 people, even with one being handicapped. My father really does love this food however. Once he recovers from the hospital and is able to walk again, I will bring him back (hopefully).
Stopped in here on a cold blustery day for a good bowl of pho. I loved it! So delicious! I need to try the banh mi there next. A few weeks later, I asked my family to eat here for my birthday, and the owner made sure my 6-year old neice had a basic noodle plate (shes a picky eater.) My neice asked for a pair of chopsticks since I was using them, and she learned how to use them on her own by copying the mural on the wall! She ate the noodles, too!
The appetizers are a bit expensive for the portion they give. However, our entrees were delicious. When ordering or speaking in general, some of the waitresses/owners seem to be a little nosy and comment on what youre considering ordering... in my instance she put the order in before I placed my order.
Came in and was seated right away but not a single server came to see us or even acknowledge us. Maybe we sat in the black hole of the restaurant but after having to wave down the waitress she had no idea why we were there. After she told us the portions were small we just went ahead and left. Maybe Id come back for lunch where the prices are cheaper but not worth the hassle in my opinion.
Ehhh it was okay, was there tonight with of if my good friends. Staff was friendly, food was alright but the noodles were rather soggy, which honestly wouldn’t be have been a problem except our serve actually asked for a tip and gave us a very unpleasant look when we refused to give her one. She asked my friend for tip before she could even pull her wallet out, and when I tried to explain to her what I spent was all I had available on my card because I left my other card at hoke and I didn’t carry cash, she dismissed me and walked off. Usually I give a tip whenever I go to House of Lu’s becuase even if the food is not the best that day, I believe in quality service, but becuase of this I won’t be going here as often, if ever. Sever left a very bad taste in my mouth that was worse than the food.
Great ambiance, pleasant & helpful servers. The boba was VERY good - much less sweet than typical for the South. The pho was better than average, with a delicious broth and quality meats. The banh mi was disappointing: it was pretty but lacked flavor. A drizzle of sriracha helped. While I think it was a little skimpy on meat, my biggest issue was the paucity of pickled veg. (In my posted photo, the veggies are pushed up to show how pretty the plate looked when served.) I guess Ill continue driving to Burford Hwy for my banh mi fix.
Not sure where to lay the blame on this, but it is the first time i have ever ordered off of uber eats and the order was cancelled on me. so i assume the issue is on House of Lu. we waited over an hour and a half, having our estimated wait times change and drivers change over and over until it was cancelled. super annoying
Overpriced for the quantity you receive. The quality of the food is no different than any other restaurant around the way that provides you with more for a better price. Didnt even have water chestnuts in their lo mein. Dissapointed. I paid $10 for the SMALLEST bowl of vegetable lo mein you could ever imagine. Go to Great Wall on S Cobb Dr in the same plaza as Planet Fitness, tastes better, and they give you more. $4.50 for a small vegetable lo mein and it was still more than what this place offered.
My wife and I love House of Lu! They have the best Pho that I have ever had! We love that they also deliver and utilize Uber Eats as well. This makes bringing our favorite Thai food to our home a treat! I recommend the Well-Done Skirt Flank Pho, the Tofu & Vegetable Pho, and any appetizer on the menu. 5 out of 5 stars every time!
Food was cold and service is lacking. We have eaten there before and it is usually not too bad, but today we ate lunch there and for a restaurant that was half empty, the staff seemed to be having some difficulties. The hostess was not friendly, our waiter forgot to bring us plates for our food, when we asked another waiter to please bring us a couple of plates, his reply was Im not your server, Ill tell him. Food was cold and so was the service. We will not be going back anytime soon.
Food was great and had a nice time ordering from their lunch special, but there was this particular elderly lady that gave me a hard time about the tip. Highly rude of her.I have worked in an Italian restaurant for years, so I understand how important a tip is. However you do not have the right to come back and demand the customer leave a tip, because you dont know their life situation and anything that isnt your business.I left no tip because I had paid my tuition recently and I didnt have much at the time. She came back and demanded that I tip, in front of my girlfriend. How rude of her? That was highly embarrassing and ruined the end of my date. Thats okay though, I just will never eat there again.
Before you read the rest of this, I want to say I really the food here.... But today I was literally the ONLY person in the restaurant when it first opened. I ordered 2 Bahn-Mi sandwiches to go and then sat there for 20 minutes while all the staff members talked and chatted to each other (which is fine, have a little fun) but after a while I finally spoke up and asked how long it would take. One of the staff members went into the back and grabbed my food for me, which had apparently been sitting there for some time. A little more attention and promptness would be nice.
Went in and were seated pretty quickly, waitress took our order and was friendly as well but when we didnt get our food for a prolonged period of time for a sit in restaruant and are watching people being seated, and they have the same waitress as us, getting their food long before we did and they were seated 10 to 15 minutes after us, we decided we just needed to leave. This was disheartening and sad. Food was lukewarm, not even fresh for such a long wait. House of Lu used to be really good in the past and now has become no more then garbage. Ill be certain to let every person i come across to go elsewhere.
I love House of lu! The food is really good! But everytime i go, the service is cold and i stand at the door waitikg for a table for a bit. This last time really was a terrible experience and disrespectful. I dont mind waiting for a table. But 5 times a host or hostess walked up to the front, grabbed menus, checked people out and not once acknowledged that i was there waiting. I waited for 8min and tried getting the guys attention by respectfully giving a head nod and say hello. But nothing. Again i dont mind waiting. But no one said hello and no one said they would be with us. So finally after standing awkwardly i left. Again love the food but its honestly this has been the experience everytime ive gone and im just tired of it. Ive worked in customer service and general respect seems pretty basic.
This is not your typical Asain spot. You can tell this restaurant puts pride in the dishes that they put out. If youre looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, this is your spot. The reasoning for a 4/5 rating is because our waitress got lost a few times and our service was slow.
The food was alright. Orange chicken had the right texture and sweetness and the rice was fresh. I was taken aback a little when i saw the lomein was literally just dry lomein noodles with no veggies or anything. I did ask for a small, cheapest lomein but giving me just noodles makes me think theyre more concerned with margins and not the costumer. Also, for the price, 16 bucks, i feel i could have gotten more, better food.
Had a great afternoon late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday. Seating available on the sidewalk, so if you are with the pooch it’s a great option. The food was on point and service was good. Only reason it’s one star less is that it seems a little pricier than other places - maybe it’s the location.
We order from House of Lu pretty frequently, and the food is always very good and usually delivered in a timely manner. However, there is almost always something missing from our order. Nine times out of ten something is forgotten, which is really a pain when you have paid in advance and dont discover the mistake until the delivery person is long gone. House of Lu, please make an effort to double check delivery orders before sending them out!
Ordered Shrimp in Garlic Sauce. It was not on the lunch menu but was prepared as a lunch special and it was not very appetizing at all. I love garlic but this was more garlic than anyone can stand, this dish is usually spicy and somewhat sweet it was neither. The Won Ton soup was aweful. This is not may favorite Chinese spot. Its really difficult to find good Chinese in the suburbs of Atlanta. So far its been impossible.
Cindy... which apparently is the owner... has the worst attitude and is probably the most unprofessional owner i have ever had to deal with. To start off i said You did not cook this so i am not upset with you by any means but before i could finish... Cindy happened. . Long story short the order was sesame chicken with wanton soup, egg fried rice x2, and fried wontons . The wonton soup had no seasoning what so ever... basically hot water... no egg in the egg fried rice and the wontons were not even fried. So no worries with the sesame chicken but when all the other problems were brought up this is what was said... There is no egg fried rice... the egg is just put in so the pan does not stick... it was half cooked and still hard rice so she said she went back to check it and said it was fine... also said do not expect ANY freshly fried rice in ANY American Chinese restaurants because no one does it that way! The wonton soup, she said the Chinese do not put seasoning in so why should she. The fried wontons, which i even said i could send her a picture of, which i will enclose, are just perfectly fine she said but were completely soft dough... not even close to being fried. In the end the only response i got back was Good Luck over and over again and a hang up. I Would rather have the cheap Chinese food from a minor strip mall... not a major square such as Marietta! if you ever have a problem with this place i dare you to call Cindy!
Horrible customer service! I called to let them know that I didnt receive items that should come with what was ordered, and there response was that I had, had too much to drink, I didnt know what i was talking about! I had had a few beers, 3-4, that is why i ordered delivery! I called them to let them know so maybe it wouldnt be missed on my next delivery! Now Ill be ordering from someplace else! I suggest the same to everyone! They have been subpar for awhile now!
Atmosphere is nice though we went during a slower time of day, in the evening. The salt and pepper calamari was overpriced and scarce. I had the Johnnys special chicken bahn mi. The bread was more crusty than I bargained for and the chicken sauce was too similar to the hot braised chicken wings we had previously. I tried the pho that my girlfriend ordered and it was a great representation of the umami flavor expected of it. Next time Ill stick to the pho and totally forget the calamari.
This restaurants food is nasty. After I placed an order to inform them that I wanted a little oil on my fried rice, they delivered my order with rice soak in the oil almost swiming in the oil. I called him to complaint that this is not what I ordered. He jumped in an urgue like no tomorrow. Apparently he doesnt care about customers and the food they sell. If it happened to me, it could happen to you. He even said, feel free to write anything about his restaurant. He doesnt care. Go ahead.
If your looking for a authentic asian resurant with quality tastes and food, do NOT go to the House of Lu. After trying plenty of dishes, including the dumplings, crab rangoon “with real crab” (aka a crab paste), and many other plates, all of the plates were less than sub-par. If you do order food here, order the pho because it actually has good flavors and the most authentic.
Spent a good Penny and got pho witch was not the problem. I was messing sauces for it as soon as I noticed I called driver. Driver hung up on me then would not answer. So I called store and they offered me a credit of a spring roll umm why thats not what I was messing. She said she would talk to driver to see if they would agree to bring back my things. I just told her i would eat it like it is . Crazy how people are its his job u shouldnt have to ask. I work in restaurant and find it crazy how it was handled first and last time ordering . That simple ..
We have been eating at Mr. Lu for 12 or 13 yearsz. I lived closer to his other resr. On Powder Springs for quite a few yrs. We would always oder pick up.When they remodelled o n the square, we started goin there, and its lovely. And still has fantastic food. I highly recommend it!
I called for directions and a very rude man answered the phone. This man proceeded to berate me for being in the wrong area. Saying “It’s very obvious where the entrance is ma’am but if you need help the doors are big and red.” The food was not worth having to hear him sass me as if I was a child. If you want to be needlessly chided please eat here!
Went to dinner (dutch) to celebrate a college graduation. They love House of Lu. We wont go back. Customer service is very poor. The waiter forgot that we had ordered soup. When it came it was lukewarm. The rice was lukewarm. Our entrees were lukewarm. Told the waiter that it was cold. He took it to warm (I assume in a microwave) and it came back still lukewarm. Talked to the owner - Johnny - who told me that there was an issue in the kitchen and that they had to leave the door open which kept the kitchen at 55º. He offered a fresh meal, a meal to take home, a drink, dessert, dessert for the entire party (of about 16 people). By now everyone had paid for their lukewarm meals. Johnnys response became a big negative. His offers were all the wrong answer to his dilemma. Johnnys offer should have been: Your meal tonight is on the house and heres a gift card for dinner for two for a future visit. I hope that you will come back so that you can experience our excellent service. Johnny should have closed his service for the evening and gotten his kitchen problem repaired in time to open for service the next day. House of Lu lost a customer as well as anyone else whom we would have introduced to what we had been told was an excellent place to dine. Chef Irvine would have told him the same thing. There is nothing more dissatisfying than cold hot food.
I went to eat lunch this week. with my kids and we had our food fast it was ok. but then they gave me the ticket to pay and they never refill my kids drink and all of the waiters were at the kitchen and they never took the time to check if I even paid for what I order.
This was the craziest food experience. I ordered to my business about 4:30. They delivered very quick but they did not give me utensil ir napkins. I ordered rice. The excuse was they dont give urwnsils unless you ask for the. WTH. I have never heard of anything like it. They wererude to me and acted as I was asking for somethi g out of the ordinary. NEVER AGAIN AND I WILL MAKE SURE I LE5 EVERYONE KNOW NOT TO GOTO THIS PLACE.
Treated me like a crack-head or a criminal. Wouldn’t allow me to use the restroom. I was told that it was because others like me had messed up the bathroom in the past, but I have little doubt that it was because I’m African-American. The food is decent, if a little expensive. I won’t be dining here again.

2022-05-24I love the coconut shrimp here. It’s gluten free which is why we continue to come back when we are near the square. The calamari app is also gf and even though it says it is spicy, it is just salt and pepper seasoning. Love House of Lu and been coming here for 10+ years! During that time the coconut shrimp has remained one of the most delicious dishes and I get it every time and never gotten sick.

2022-01-05We are here on Christmas Night. The staff was amazing and so polite. The bar made us so great drink to hold us over until we were sat. When we got our food. SOOOOO GOOD! Everyone in the family was happy! We appreciate them being open!

2022-02-26The best food I’ve had in a while, and by far the best restaurant in downtown Marietta. The dumplings are home made and amazing. The Bahn Mi sandwich taste fresh and is only $6!!! The servers are so nice. I am super impressed. Plus we brought our kids and they made a mess and the servers were so sweet

2021-12-11The food is incredibly delicious and proportions allow you to bag it and enjoy it the next day. They support local schools and management is helpful and friendly! I enjoyed it a lot!

2022-01-21Food was great, understaffed, but the front of house ran smoothly. Staffing shortages are very forgivable these days. The only other caveat, and this is not due to House of Lu, was parking.Excellent experience, will have to ask for something non Americanized next time, but even what’s on the menu was terrific. Nam Pho was exactly what I needed on a cold January day.

2022-06-14We loved the food here, and the restaurant was cozy. The atmosphere was nice thanks to some nice murals, cleanliness, and good service. I wish we lived closer to the restaurant, so we could eat here more often!

2022-03-06The appetizers came on a tray with a flame grill in the middle, but everything was fried. The appetizers were ok, but not good. When my pho came out, I was given only 3 slices of jalapeño, one tiny lime, and given only hoisin and hot sauce to add. When I usually go to a pho restaurant, there’s always a large amount of different sauces to choose from. The broth on its own in it was basic. This place was fine, but I’ve had far better experiences with pho and Asian cuisine elsewhere.

2022-03-26Solid place to get pho. Not what Im used to but the broth was very sodium rich, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Beef steak tips were cooked to perfection and not too fatty. Highly recommend this place for any night, followed by some bubble tea right down the street.Edit: I went here again tonight with my girlfriend and their crab Rangoon are probably actually some of the best Ive ever had.

2022-03-13Alright, if you are looking for good asian food in Mariette Square, this is the place. My husband and I go at least 3 times a year when its cold to get their pho, and its so worth it. The whole menu is good but for the amount of pho and the price, it dang near perfect.
