Awesome facility, very knowledgeable and caring staff, and all the animals seemed happy and well taken care of. Not every shelter, even humane societies, are like this. However the humane society of Forsyth county is a great place. We did not find one that was a right fit for us, however there were plenty of amazing animals that we would have loved to adopt if circumstances allowed! I highly recommend this location, the one in Roswell, and the one in Lumpkin County.
{*SEE PHOTOS!!!*} (^_____^) !!!!I have been looking to adopt a kitty for over a year now. I’ve had one shelter string me along for literally MONTHS, before ultimately using a shady bait-and-switch tactic that I was not at all amused by. Another rescue center that I was considering adopting from required a number of legitimate personal and PROFESSIONAL references, as well as multiple and ongoing in-home “visits”......(seriously). While I appreciate the work and services that I’m sure these places are trying their very best to provide, these experiences were a bit disheartening. However, when I recently received an alert from one of the “pet search” websites/services that I had been using, informing me that there are “new pets” that meet my criteria available for adoption, I couldn’t help but to take a quick peek. When I saw these ADORABLE THINGS, I unwittingly decided to initiate an attempt at adoption. Within LESS THAN A WEEK, I went from seeing these cute things online, told honestly that an application from someone else had already been approved for my first pick, but that I was next in line to choose between one of the remaining two. The place was super cute, very clean, and easy to find. Everyone there was really nice and helpful, especially the girl at the front desk. I don’t remember her name, but it was 5/18/18 @ 2pm, because that’s when my adoption appointment was. I took home Moose Tracks the SAME DAY! She isn’t old enough to get spayed yet, so we’re bringing her back on June 2. The foster family did a great job with her as she is using the litter box perfectly and getting along very well with our two other cats. I am so impressed with and pleased by the adoption process of this place! This is exactly how it should be. I’ve actually thought about volunteering at all of these places after my experiences with them. I think the other rescue centers/shelters could definitely benefit from learning a thing or two from this place.
Last weekend I got my 3 cats and my parents old dog updated on their shots and then I took my other 3 dogs this weekend (so 7 animals total) and we had the BEST services ever! My boyfriend literally watched all 3 of our pups get updated on their shots. Best experience ever! I love my humane society and all the sweet staff!
Excellent place! Just adopted my little Jaz angel a few days ago. Great people to work with. You can find such awesome pets with the premium price, and they get the loving home they deserve. Their partnership with Hollywood Feed just down the street makes it easy to get everything you need to get started for people without pets. My girl was in foster before we got her and their foster program makes for an easier transition home, plus you know they had love before you got them. I highly recommend this place for anyone considering a fur baby.
They were able to give me an estimate over the phone and the price was so much cheaper than any place else. I end up saving over $800. So I drove all the way from Columbia, SC just to have my dogs bladder stones removed. They told me the pickup was between 3:30-4 pm, but they finished her surgery early. I was so grateful because I was back on the road an hour sooner than I expected. Everyone was nice and I felt very welcome. I knew my dog was in good hands. The surgery went well and she is doing so much better today. Im so glad I found this place even though we drove 4 hrs. it was truly worth the trip. I cant thank them enough for everything they did to give my dog a better quality of life. This is a non profit organization so their prices are more affordable.
Dropped off a bunch of old bedding and towels. They are very grateful and nice. They have great programs to help get the animals adopted like doggie day out, where a person can take a dog with them for the day. Its no kill so its very full. They have a lot of fosters right now.
We adopted the sweetest Shih Tzu primarily for our 82 year old mother. He has been the perfect dog for our family and mom’s constant companion. The staff recommended Frankie to us from all the dogs available and they were absolutely correct in how well he would fit our needs. Frankie as an older dog was in need of a dental check and teeth cleaning which they did for free along with a round of antibiotics. With the follow up services they provided our adoption fee was very reasonable and way less than the normal cost of a dental cleaning at the regular veterinary clinics. We were pleased to find such a nice dog right here in our community and will be returning next time our family wants a dog.
So friendly and welcoming. By appointment only and one visitor at a time. In one door and out another in little to no time. Great Covid compliance. Mask worn and needed to enter facility. Great prices. All services updated for 3 years with HWT and 6 month prevention for 133(tax included). Happy mom and fur baby! Will like to set an appointment to set pets available for adoption.
Sooo sweet all the dogs are angels and I think they are all well taken care of I feel those who disliked were just in awe. The kittens and puppies look happy and the look well feed. I think that you can’t expect the best if the owner didn’t care about the pet so if a dog or cat isn’t healthy and it’s at the shelter I think it’s mostly the old owners fault... but yes amazing place I am looking forward to adopting my buddy soon! I love the society and all the workers are great as so the animals! -
This shelter has an amazing staff and I highly recommend adopting from them. We adopted a scared, shy puppy that was treated wonderfully by the staff and volunteers. Shes been a part of our family (of 5 with 3 young kids) just shy of a month and she has been wonderful for us & every day she acts more and more like an active, playful puppy instead of hiding in her kennel. We wouldnt have found each other if not for this fantastic organization.
Always friendly and helpful and a clean, organized facility! This crew makes finding a forever home for their animals easy. Donations are great to keep the pets comfortable and healthy but you can also contribute through the thrift store just off of exit 14, Hwy 400. Hours are a little different but not difficult to get used to. Stop by and offer to help walk a dog! You just might make a new friend!
Love these people! The staff here is really kind and genuinely cares about the animals they take care of, and it shows. The animals all love the staff members and volunteers, and they will all work very hard to make sure you find a pet/friend that best suits you. 10/10 recommend. Always adopt!!
Humane Society of Forsyth County all the way!!!What this Humane Society does is amazing and outstanding in every way!Weve adopted a little Border Collie/Spaniel/Something mix early this year in January and were just mind blown every time we needed something from the humane society. Not only are they extremely good with their pets as most if not all of their puppies are in foster homes and therefore grow up in a great environment already, but the services provided are just perfect.Out rescue got spayed a month ago and the humane society did a great job in all regards, from Julia taking great care of our little dog to everybody else there making sure the necessary procedure to be the least painful. All our questions about our dogs recovery were perfectly answered and whenever we had a question they were patiently explaining us what we would have to do.Today we have a perfect little dog thanks to the Forsyth Humane Society! I will always recommend them as much as I can! Outstanding work
Great place to do a GREAT thing for an animal in need. They deserve to be in homes where they are loved and that affords them the opportunity to give love too. The staff was very helpful. Im not sure if there was a play area because I didnt take any animals out but I will definitely be back!
They seem to really care for these sweet fur-babies that are in their care. I love that theres an area to bring the pups out to play & a room to bring the kitties in where you can play with them. I just wanted to take them all home with me...the whole lot...You want to give them the love they all so richly deserve but at least I left knowing that they were safe with these lovely people. ❤
We had an amazing experience at the Humane Society in Forsyth County. It was obvious that they really care for their animals and in finding them the best home. We visited a lot of animal shelters in our quest to add a furbaby to our family and this shelter was in a tier way above the others. We loved how the animals got plenty of playtime and interaction. Something we hadnt seen at the other places we had been. They make sure the animals have everything they need before going to their new home. They are so thorough and it very clear how much they care. Their mission is not only to find all their pets a home but to find the best home for them. I loved how they wanted to make sure the animals were a fit for the whole family. We adopted Sage and couldnt be more happy. She is the perfect addition to our family! So thankful for all Humane Society of Forsyth County did for our sweet girl before she came home to us.
Took my beloved pet there 3 times and paid for meds and remedys unrelated to the true prognosis that was discovered at a real vet. Sad to say my dog had bone cancer and could have been treated with timely discovery. The cancer was obvious to most because of the large bump on rear leg that was easily noticeable.
Everyone is super nice and I help around there and they are super nice to everyone and all animals of theres. I really think you should go there they have 3 cat rooms and lots of dogs and all dogs are nice but 2 are not allowed to be around other dogs so I really think you should go there. They are the best one I have been to. I got 4 of my animals there 3 cats and 1 dog there the dog we got is super nice and is good with cats. I am glad I help there and I think you would be happy to help there too!
WOW - you expect a Humane Society to care about the animals they rescue but I never expected the caring this shelter gives to their animals. They make certain the homes are the very best and they take in the animals that no one else wants. Justine Daniels and her staff are amazing. If only all shelters could be run like this one. WOW
The adoption process is not transparent. They let you meet and greet the animal, get attached, proceed to fill out the paperwork and then hit you with this is a premium adoption $350 versus $250 the standard fee. There should be a disclaimer up front with each pet, on the website and on its crate, indicating the status as a standard or premium adoption. What was a great experience left a very sour taste !!
Great facility.. and very clean... the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the Dogs and kitties!! Comforting to know that they are all well taken care while waiting for their forever home!!! Need to have more opportunities to waive adoption fees so they can be adopted more quickly.
My family and I have adopted two pets now from the Humane Society, and the help we receive is always great. As we recently visited to possibly add a third member to our family, we were made aware that the Humane Society uses court ordered community service workers in order to help with daily tasks in the building. I think this is a great opportunity for individuals who are ordered to give back, and what better way than to help animals in need. However, it was to our knowledge that they have now hired one of those previous court ordered workers on to their staff, and to which was the person we had encountered. She was very rude and disrespectful to our family and my daughter was continually asking questions about the tattoos across her knuckles. Unfortunately this has put a bad taste into our mouth and we will not be back to adopt until this problem is taken care of.
I got .y dog Roxy here and have visited many other shelters. The shelter here is always the cleanest Ive seen and they do so much to make sure the animals are able to go to adoption events and even bathed my Roxy before I picked her up! She was trained to walk on my left side ALWAYS with a leash and although a 89 lb dog, she never EVER pulls. They also care for all the animals they receive but never have TOO many like other shelters Ive been to where over crowding causes problems and health issues.
Great people helping animals. The animals that they take care of are obviously well socialized and well-fed. They have some very nice people working there as well as some kids that are volunteering which I think is fantastic because they get to learn all it entails to take care of an animal and to run a non-profit. Whenever one of my friends is looking to adopt I always send them here.
I actually proved it is possible to go to the animal shelter and NOT come home with another animal! It was difficult, but I did it! Love to go visit and let the friendly staff tell you all about the personality and history of each animal. Lots of toys to play with the cats. It doesnt bother me anymore to pick up a sleeping kitten! Bring a donation of litter or food when you go to help them out.
I had a small dog took him to surrender him having loving situations and my dog can’t come she literally gave him back and told me that he wouldn’t be a good fit because he was scared at the time and that she had a lot of large dogs then as she called other resources she literally told someone that she doubts if my dog been vaccinated before because she couldn’t get information from the vet I take him to but if she would ask she would known when calling the vet it’s under my bf name not mine just disgusting no real reason at all especially after I drove a hour to bring him there luckily I’m not the type to throw a dog out just poor service I really feel like she just didn’t want to take him and it could be other reasons but I’m not even going to go there but never again
I went to Petco event to adopt the puppy, and the foster parent for the puppy’s was very rude. When I was done filling out the adoption papers for the puppy the lady kept on ignoring me and talking to the other family’s there. When I finally got her attention she kept on making excuses for me not to be able to get the puppy. At the end of the day the foster mom just said we were not able to adopt the dog do some unknown reason. So I did not get to adopt the puppy that I really wanted.
We have supported the Humane Society of Forsyth County with taking food on several occasions. We were also looking into fostering too since my daughter is not old enough to volunteer. We went two weekends in a row to look at the dogs. We found one that we were interested in. Number one we could have cared less if the dog was a pure breed or not. Second they were charging $350 for her. We filled out the application and went to the car to discuss it and went back in. There was someone else interested and had not filled out the application yet. I said I would like to purchase her. They then said because their were two people interested in her they would need to let the manager make the decision. She would not be available until Tuesday. I called and left a message on Monday. The manager, Justtern called me back and said there were several people interested in her, not true, they were going to sell her to me had the other people not came. They sold her to the other people who were rude. I hope Bella receives love and care. I will never support the Humane Society anymore. My support will go to the Animal Shelter. Reconsider your decision to support them also. We have supported them for years. Not anymore!!!!
Moat of the 5 star reviews are based on cleanliness and conditiin of animals. If you read btween all those you will see adoption process scores. My experience with this unrealistic process was horrible. They made me feel like a criminal and then said I didnt meet there criteria. I have had many dogs throughout my life and have never ever mistreated any of them. Apparently I didnt get the flea and heart worm care on a regular basis towards the end of my lasts dog years so therefore I am unfit? SERIOUSLY! I have always supported the SPCA and local shelters but will not going forward. Horrible experience and cried most of my way back to work. Horrible experience.
The site is pretty clean and the people seem to genuinely care for the animals. They would not let us adopt a small dog that needed a good home. The reason they gave was because we do not believe in giving our current dog chemicals to combate mosquitoes bites and heartworms. We has seen first hand what that chemical does to animals and have had 1 that starting having grand mal seizures due directly to th he chemical. Our current pet is 16 years old and he does not get the chemical poison giving to him and is still thriving. We just wanted to get him a friend. Overall the do a good job, we just think they are a little short sighted on their policies.
Forsyth Humane Society is absolutely amazing - they help save so many pets from the community - they take wonderful care of their pets , and finding amazing homes . They also do so many great outreach events in the community as well - Justine and all her staff are phenomenal ❤️
My mother had recently put our pregnant cat in foster care, under the impression that we would get her back after she was done nursing. My mom gave her to them on November 20th, about six weeks and nine days ago. Today, my mother had called today, and my mom asked about our cat. While my mother was asking for information about our cat, the employee that was on the phone was a total jerk. She was saying things like, Back off and Stop calling us about the cat. Which i think is weird because my mom had only called about 5/6 times in the whole six weeks. Also, with the whole Saving animals lifes thing, youd think that theyd be more informative about the animals. She wouldnt give her any information about our cat. She spoke with the manager, who was much more helpful. And now shes waiting for a call from the Board of Directors. Our experience was absolutely horrible.
I would have loved to go in and see some pets. I am not ready to adopt yet but who knows if I fell in love with the right baby I would have might took him or her home. I will never know because the lady in there wouldnt even let me go see them. Then on top of that I would have to choose through a cage without holding and loving the baby? That is crazy to me.
My experience with the Forsyth Humane Society has put me off of animal rescue organizations forever. For over a year now, I have contacted several rescues to adopt a Shiba Inu, without much luck. I was thrilled when I found one on FMS’s website on April 21st.I immediately filled out the online application, which asked for my name, address, and vet information for my current dog, a 2 year old Belgian Malinois. The next day I received a call from a woman in Florida, who chatted with me about the dog. She didn’t really know anything about him and couldn’t answer any of my questions. She said she would move my application along to the next step. After not hearing from FHS in over 24 hours, I called and spoke to a volunteer. I got the distinct impression that no one had even looked at my application. She said she would call the vet listed to get a recommendation.A few minutes later, she called me back and told me that my vet didnt want to give a recommendation because theyve only seen my Malinois twice. Well, she’s just now 2 years old, so theyve only seen her for vaccinations/heartworm checks. The volunteer said they would have to schedule a home visit. I was annoyed, but the volunteer told me they would bring the dog with them on the home visit and if I was approved, they would leave him with me that day. Since I live over an hour away, I didn’t have a problem with that. After not hearing from FHS for over 24 hours, I called Saturday morning (remembering that I started this process on Tuesday). The volunteer I spoke was talking to me like she was doing me a huge favor by checking my application status. She said they were still waiting to schedule a home visit since I didn’t provide vet information. I told her that I did provide vet info, but my dog has only been for yearly maintenance visits, so the vet “wasn’t comfortable” giving any kind of reference. I mentioned that a friend of mine is a K9 officer and he is familiar with my dog and how I take care of her. She took down his information and said she would give him a call.20-30 minutes later, she calls me back. She said a woman had come in a put a deposit on the dog, her application was approved, and he was going home with her today. I was shocked. Ive talked to at least 5 different people at this point, none indicated that my application wouldnt hold the dog from being adopted out. The volunteer was very snippy when I pointed it out, and said “it doesnt work like that.” Well, no one let me know, or I would have gone down to the FHS in person five days before. When I voiced my complaint and asked why my application wouldnt be honored, she put me on hold.An employee/supervisor (I don’t know, she didn’t identify herself) came on the phone and immediately started launching into a lecture on how just because I put in an application doesn’t mean the dog is mine. She said that the woman had put in an application before me, on Monday. I asked why I wasn’t notified that they dog had already been applied for and she said they don’t do that. I asked if I hadn’t called back, would they have let me know that the dog had been adopted. Her reply “what, you want us to call you?” Well – yeah. She started making excuses about how volunteers don’t keep track of things and that it’s their policy to take multiple applications and deposits on animals. She was more than happy to move my application and deposit to “another dog” –even though I mentioned on multiple occasions that I was looking for this very specific breed.I cannot believe how poorly this facility is run. I have adopted dogs from multiple county animal shelters, and they always indicate when a dog has an application on it, has been adopted, or is unavailable. FHS still has “my” dog listed as available on their website. I guess so they can string along more people, trying to get deposits and then bait-and-switch for another dog.
Shout-out to Forsyth Human Society. I called them yesterday to inquire if they would take 30 pound of dog food I still had after I put my Great Dane down. I didnt want to throw that much dog food away and hopefully other animals could use it. They accepted it and said would help many dogs.
Thank you guys so much for having the dog of my dreams here! Ive been searching around for a shiba for the past year and once i saw Lei (Formerly Jimbo) I couldnt resist! Hes adjusted quite well to our place and is slowly accepting our cat! Thanks again for our companion fur life!Edit: I noticed the review below and its unfortunate for her but he doesnt get along with other dogs at all. Hes better in a household without them!
I wish the woman at the front desk could have stopped surfing the Internet for five minutes while I was trying to ask her questions about a cat we were adoption, she literally acted like how dare I take up her valuable internet surfing time, anyway we have now had our cat for two weeks and would have really appreciated a little more info on the animal, without having to pry it out of the employees! We now know the cat was relinquished from the previous owners because he pees all over the house and it would have been nice if they could have disclosed this instead of keeping it to themselves so we could have made a better dissuasion. I hope the people who work at this astonishment realize that they are dealing with living breathing animals and humans and not just some product to push out the door. Will never return hereId also like to add that it was the blonde curly haired woman at the front desk who was so dismissive of me. And I would also like to add that we stood in the front lobby for 15 minutes before she ever looked up from her computer to let us know what to do
We found the dog of our dreams just a few days ago, and it is evident that the staff here cares for these animals. We were a bit disappointed not to be told directly that our girl still had worms, or what her feeding schedule had been, but we are working these kinks out with her.

2022-06-26Great place to get your dog spayed. I am first time pet owner and I wanted to get my Aussie spayed. I live in Sandy Springs and called a few places around here and it was going to be over $650. I saw the Humane Society did if for significantly less. I was worried that at the cheaper price, there might be issues but everyone in the reviews had a good experience. I can say my experience has been nothing short of great. My Aussie, Winnie, got her rabies shot and spay (two trip.) The shot was so quick she didnt even realize she got it. She nor I had any issues with the spay. My fiance is a surgical nurse and even complimented the incision and stitching. The cone and the meds worked just the way they were supposed to work. Im writing this so others will feel confident to take their dogs there and support the humane society.

2022-03-16Someone wanted to know where the entrance is! First you pull straight in where the handicap parking is! It runs parallel with the road! Then go to the door on the right and it will tell you to knock on the door or the window to the left! They will tell you what to do next! When they are ready for you, you and your pet will go into the door on the right! Everyone there is so sweet and helpful! This was for Dexters pre-surgical visit! They were fast too! He was tested for heart worms and we got the negative results while we were there! We got a 3 month supply of heart worm prevention! We also got his rabies shot! And got his neutering appointment scheduled for next Wed and he will be ready to go later that same day! Theyll file his nails while hes asleep at no charge! Also he can be chipped for $25 while hes asleep and thats for lifetime!

2021-06-23Words can not express my gratitude for the care my dog received. I currently have a vet that has not been the best experience for my pup. After carefully reading reviews and doing my research, I chose the Humane Society of Forsyth. The staff, and doctor are all so caring, and beyond knowledgeable. They all took their time with my pup. I could have not had a better experience. My very active pup managed to take her stitches out and right away they were on it. There was not a hesitation on getting her in to address the situation. Everyone here is very professional. I will be changing my vet and chosing this facility for my pups future care. If I could give 10 stars I would. Thank you to all the staff for the care and patience you provided!

2018-07-26I came to Coal Mountain to help out my Grams who doesnt get around much anymore. Ive driven her around to her old haunts and helped her stock up on lots of things she needed. One of the funnest parts of my visit was picking out a companion dog for her from Humane Society -Forsyth County. Among all the positive reviews, we did read a few negative reviews so we decided to visit the facility to formulate our own opinion. The facility is clean and well maintained and the staff are professional, friendly and well informed. The selection of dogs is excellent with lots of mixed breeds in all colors and sizes. Its obvious the staff enjoy their jobs. The people working in the kennels knew all the details about the animals and were happy to share them. We found my Grams an adorable older dog that is a perfect fit. We highly recommend visiting and adopting from this organization.
