I have loved this place since the first time I stepped inside 8 years ago. When you walk in you go up 3 stairs theres a bar on the right, see ASHLEY!!!!! She is amazing!!!! I generally come in on Sundays with a group and she always hooks us up w suggestions, drinks and good company. Theres a karaoke, sot down area to your left.. walk further theres bathrooms to your right then a couch lounge area w books and games across from that is the back bar and the best part ... **drumroll please **go out the back door and theres usually a bonfire with a live band! This place holds so much charm and genuine people. I love it !
Dirty dirty dirty. The place needs a thorough scrubbing, as it appears to have years of scum accumulated on everything. Years ago, the food was good with good portions, but now theyve slimmed it down - with no bread offered with the corned beef which is not good any longer. Sad. Wont be going back after all these years. Plus, the staff is very indifferent & unfriendly - so yeah, theres that.
This place was pretty cool, Ive never been and I had heard that the food was really good there. I was a little disappointed that I couldnt eat the fish-and-chips because they fry all of the fish and shellfish in the same oil so that was a little of a bum but what I ordered was good.
This place is freaking awesome. If youre looking for a great atmosphere and amazing irish food look no further. Also these guys have one of the best beer selections Ive ever seen. Thank you to the new waitress that served us btw, really made the experience that much better and did an excellent job offering some beer samples which helped make the right decision.
It was not particularly busy when we arrived, though it was busier when we left. Great selection of Scotch and Bourbon. I tried the Blackadder Peat Reek raw cask Scotch for a good Peat experience. The bangers and mash were wonderful, fish was done but a little too greasy. Cheeseburger and fries were definitely a winner. Service could have been improved.
Great bar. You just can’t build new places to be like that. It takes years and decades to develop a vibe like that. Plenty of rooms, upstairs, downstairs, outside, etc. Great service and drink selection. Beer list had 11 pages and drink list over 13 pages... loved it!
A real family run bar. They take pride in what they do and solve problems. Food can be inconsistent but the drink selection is good and the bartenders are good company. They used to have a buffet with corned beef and bangers on it, that was a deal! They source meats from Pataks. One of the few bars in the metro area where you can mingle with everyone, its not just a bunch of groups going out only to talk among themselves. A blessing to the community
We booked a whiskey tasting and dinner with friends for my husbands birthday and we had such a great time. The owner, Gary, did the tasting and had lots of stories during the tasting, along with a lot of history and explanation between the different types of whiskey. When he found out it was my husbands birthday, he gave him a shot of a rare whiskey from his collection which my husband highly enjoyed. I had the grilled cheese and fries and it was delicious. There was a great selection for beers on tap - they had at least 3 different sours on tap which isnt common for me to find and I very much enjoyed it. Will definitely be back!
Basically the Paddys Pub of Marietta. The crowd is always fun, the beers are great, and the food is filling pub faire. The owners are amazing and it shows how much they care about their staff. The fact that they survived the pandemic shutdowns and COVID waves is a testament to their resilience and how much the Marietta community enjoys their company. So to the staff of MacCrackens, I toast to your continued success. Save me a chair at the bar. Sláinte!
Eli was an amazing bartender! He was friendly and we chatted for hours. Well definitely be coming back as regulars! Thank you for a great time!Update!: The new AMI jukebox is great but when you pay $10 to hear your music but never hear any of it cause people keep paying priority through the app it bums you out. I was alittle disappointed this time around.
Still my very favorite local place for a meal and good conversation with strangers. This local landmark cannot be overlooked. If you love a good dive bar atmosphere and enjoy the company of people from everywhere in all walks of life then this is your restaurant. The staff has years of experience and will make you feel the type of southern hospitality that nowhere else is known for. The kitchen staff are amazing and Ive never had a bad meal in my 20 years of going to this establishment. The people you meet here today are the contacts you want tomorrow.
Holy cow! After an awesome dinner at Macs in the square, we walked over to finish out my mother-in-laws birthday with a couple of beers and a few shenanigans. It was karaoke night and there was a perfect blend of new and old songs. The energy was undeniable. The DJ Mellow Black absolutely killed it and the regulars were a hoot and a half!
I finally found an outstanding corned beef dinner. Its been tough to get this meal like in Boston. They nailed it. The corned beef was tender and perfectly seasoned. They had the best cabbage Ive ever had in a restaurant. Stellar job!!!Additionally, their draft beer selection was fantastic. All the drafts were craft selections and reasonably priced. Sorry, you wont find and non-craft mainstays ( your domestic lite beers) but you can do without for one night. We ate on the bar side and it was true to form Irish pub. Cole was our bartender and gave us some great suggestions. Thanks again, Cole great job!!!Cant wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.
Random Monday had fries, a pretzel, and a Bock style beer they had an open mic for comedians. Its a chill relaxed bar with lots of good on draft beer choices. I tried to get an imperial stout but the bartender pointed to a sign hanging on the beer lever walked away never came back to ask if I wanted something else or even say what was up with the imperial stout?? Whats up with that dude? Had a good night tho 😋
Its only ok because of the grunge atmosphere. The staff is not to friendly and will not give you change if your not watching ( particularly the short bartender that i think identifies as a male). Be wary though someone or a group will generally be too drunk and somehow they still have a drink and are being rowdy.
I wanted to give this place a better rating and maybe someday Id increase their stars. Music, drinks, parking, seating all good here. Food is amazing. Staff, particularly the kitchen and servers, are good too. And yet uncool. 10 PC police for every decent person, difficult to hold a conversation, more costume than fashion, bartenders themselves making out, girls digging them for free shots, kawkblockers galore, and decidedly cheaper crowd. Please decide if you wanna be loved or dived.
The place is amazing, the history there, I could spend days just wandering and reading everything there! The stores we learned, the drinks we drank, and the food was amazing! And the owners and staff are awesome! Thanks for a great Father’s Day for the hubby! And thanks for watching out for the card we accidentally left! So glad our daughter took us there! Will definitely make it a place to go for sure!
So, I had never been here before but my boyfriend loves the fish and chips so I agreed to go and try it out. I just expected more from them when it comes to customer service. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and the menu does not specify whats in the hop-n-john mix I ate a little of the wrap and I immediately had to vomit. When I returned I ordered a sprite and I asked the server if I could send it back and have it made without all the hop-n-john mix since it didnt sit right with my stomach and majority of the food hadnt been touched. She looked at me and said we can remake it but wed have to charge you for both because the menu states theres hop-n-john in it. I said maam what is that ? The menu doesnt even say what it is and you didnt bother to explain it. She said yeah I know but thats just our policy. I politely said okay thank you, took pictures of my food and the menu, and sent my food back as is. My boyfriend paid, we left, and grabbed me food from somewhere else. To me its just sad that you still made us pay for something that wasnt satisfying to the customer and refused to remake it. I had no problem paying but at least try to make it right or offer me something different if your still going to charge me.
Pros: Great prices, cool atmosphere, and the comedy was a pleasant experience.Cons: Unfortunately, one member of the staff was incredibly rude. I felt as though I was being bothersome when I would ask for a drink, or ask a question about the menu. I leave really good tips and I left a decent tip even after I felt the service was icy at best.Overall: Id still recommend this place for someone who wants a bit of the city experience in a suburban area, but I doubt Ill return again.
Great food! Great people! Great bartenders! Great music! I have nothing bad to say. This has been my go-to bar for over a year and it’s absolutely a place of acceptance and love. Everyone here is welcome and I guarantee you will never leave without making a new fiend.
Jonnie MacCrackens has gone so far downhill its ridiculous that theyre still in business!! This place is dirty and distasteful. A server with blonde and purple hair actually had the audacity to throw a glass at my head as I was leaving all because there was nowhere to sit down. I had one terribly made drink and upon giving her the empty glass and exiting the building my glass came flying out if the door and hit a parked car. Shards of glass actually hit my DD and other people who witnessed this were is awe. Take your money elsewhere. There is no real management at this establishment, only an old man that owns it and claims that you either tip or die. I have been in the food industry for around 9 years and this is extremely unacceptable. Terrible, terrible place. 🤢
I have always loved this place. It is a quality escape. That said, the cabbage with the Corner Beef and Cabbage dish is not as good as it used to be. Also I didnt see a goze which always enhanced the dish and had to try something else which didnt give the same impact. The service was exceptional. We were well taken care of.
I have been a customer at this bar for 5 years. It was one of my favorite spots on the square but I was treated like trash by a new blonde bartender tonight.I was ordering my drink and she made a comment to my friend about needing her ID, and she said, “oh I’m plenty old enough” as she handed the bartender her ID. The bartender responded with,”well you neee to lose the attitude”I don’t know who this lady is, but I have never been treated this way before.I left no tip, and wrote “lose the attitude” on my receipt. She then lost her temper and started yelling “we don’t do that here. This isn’t fucking Applebee’s.” She then told us that we needed to get the “fuck” out.I will never come back. Y’all lost a loyal customer today. I had yo pay for a drink I wasn’t even allowed to drink.
Tasted like farm to table! Felt like a hole in the wall kind of place-which we love since the tend to be diamond in the rough places- but they had an amazing whiskey/bourbon selection & food was epic! Even our kiddos loved it! Will definitely be back & recommend to friends & family in the future
The owner complains on FB that no one comes to eat there during Covid so we came out in effort to support small business. We purchased one beer, two sodas, and two dinners. Was told drinks beer and soda)would be brought out to us on the patio. We waited 15 minutes and then my boyfriend walked up to the bar to check on drinks. He stood there for 10 minutes without being acknowledged by anyone and eventually gave up. He said he’d remind whoever brought our food. Unfortunately, food arrived 30 minutes later still with no drinks. When asking the food runner. He told us he couldn’t get the drinks. Really? Walk BACK up to the bar and had to literally cross over the bar line and now everyone wants to acknowledge us. I understand being short staffed and all but cmon. You made us feel like because we weren’t running up a high liquor tab we weren’t welcome. If you want people to come there to enjoy your food—please start treating them as if their money is just as welcome as your heavy drinkers.
This place is a great bar at night and a wonderful place for lunch. My partner took me here for a nice mothers day lunch with our 7 year old and 11 month old in tow. The staff were incredibly kind and patient with us even when we spilled a drink. The food was excellent and perfect for the cooler, stormy weather that day. It was fresh, well seasoned, GREAT brisket, and some really nice mac and cheese. Prices are great for what you get and it is hands down the best place on the square in my opinion. We will be back for more lunches and great music.
Great bar, Better food, and a wonderful experience ! This place is pretty cool how I honestly would imagine a Irish pub to be if I was in Ireland. Now the food is pretty damn good. Seriously eat anything on the menu its all good! I cant rave about this place more. Try it if you have not.
This Pub can be quite busy especially on the weekends. The food is excellent along with their special sauces that comes with hamburgers. I have also ate a steak which was pretty good. The atmosphere is great inside or outside when dining. Customer service was great and the establishment is clean. We have been here several times. The dark stout beer one of the best I have tasted. If you like salads (excellent).
The its as awesome place to just hang out with your buddies any day of the week. The pub has 2 sides, a smoking adult side, and a non smoking restaurant side....thank you! Im a non smoker and I dont drink alcohol, so I enjoy having a relaxing meal with friends.the bartenders are all top notch from what I can see. Most of the people I see drinking are happy with what they ordered, and they get it quick. Having spoken to the owners on several occasions, I feel that this establishment is run by some excellent people. The food is usually the only thing I go there for....that and the sweet tea haha. I didnt make it in for a corned beef and beef burger in like 3 months and I walked in and the lady serving me remembered my order and had it served up post haste. Overall great experience.
When I say dive bar I mean it in the best possible way. Cozy with plenty of rooms and bar space, it always feels like a chill house party. Adding to that is the bonfire on the back patio where theres often live music and another bar. This is one of my favorite places in Atlanta.
I loved this place! The atmosphere is very chill and the variety of seating homey. I wanted to try everything on the menu, but wound up with the fish and chips. That was a great choice. I tried my husbands sweet potato fries and continued to steal them from his plate, yummy! Our waitress was super friendly and down to earth. The prices were very reasonable as well. Already planning our next date there.
Hands down, one of the best gastro-pubs around! A local Marietta fixture for as long as I can remember, great selection of local micro-brews and eclectic imports. If its rare single malts that gets your trolley running, check out their collection. Food is very very good!
The prices are great especially for the portion sizes. The tater tot nachos OMG its a mountain! The chicken tenders were a bit boring but still good to go. The front side of the house isnt too loud and is family friendly enough. Its a casual scene with good music if youre into bagpipes it has an authentic feel. Drinks were good car bombs were $8 and the scratch margarita was $8 as well both of these drinks were more than the food we ordered 🙃.There was a fella smoking a cigar in the front dining area which was annoying... Besides that it was an enjoyable experience and Id say well be back.
Looking for an up class grungy irish dive bar? Look no further, you will find a vast selection of beer and other assorted drinks, multiple lounging areas, at least 3 active bar areas, and a fenced fire pit downstairs and out back, the corned beef is rivaled by no other establishment in Marietta, the loaded tots are worth trying at least once in your life and occasionally they have live entertainment, every time I have company from out of town I take them here. There is even a family friendly side for non smokers but I can say much on it having never experienced that section of the establishment, I would definitely recommend 10/10
I was so impressed by the delicious food & fun atmosphere. Cool place with ambiance. Bar is above & beyond well stocked. All the staff is friendly & clearly enjoy & take pride in their work. There is a whole smoke free restaurant side in addition to the official bar/smokers lounge.
We went here around 7 on a weeknight just to find something to eat. Service is just alright, although I imagine it’s better if you order alcohol. Food was really good. Atmosphere was cool. Kind of old school but with current music. They loose a star because it’s totally smoking indoors. I definitely thought that was illegal but, apparently it is in Georgia. Cannot recommend for anyone with allergies or asthma. My eyes were stinging the whole time although it was bearable. It didn’t seem to bother the rest of my party though
Worst service ever. Bartender seemed new but never checked on us after we got our food and I never got napkins. I guess it was a good thing he didnt come back as he, along with other employees, was not wearing a mask. I had to flag him down in order to get two shots of tequila with lime. Instead of placing them on the shot cups he dropped them in front of us on the reused paper menu and walked off again. This place is known for terrible service but this was a nightmare. Spare yourself or show up drunk so its at least tolerable.
I like the great selection of beer. The bartenders, in both the smoking and non-smoking side, are hit or miss as far as service goes. For those that dont like smokey environments, it would be nice if they piped the music from the bands to the non-smoking side. We had a few people in the group get food, they thought it was ok. Band that night was good. Not a lot of room inside the smoking side, it can get crowded and drunk people trying to push past you throughout the night.
Great place and great selection of whiskeys and Bourbons multiple areas to hang out in and multiple bars to get drinks from but my biggest problem with the places their bartenders arent the best at attending the bar Ive watched people sit at the bar for over 15 minutes or more waiting to get a drink to just end up leaving because no one was serving them that is my biggest complaint about the place.
I walked into this place almost two decades ago when the owner was still building the bar. He walked us around—mind you the place was not open yet—and showed us everything inside the old No. 1 firehouse. He explained his vision and his ambition. I can tell you, he did a great job. This is a Celtic pub with a southern twist. Really good food with really good beer. The selection is out of this world. You just dont get this kind of selection anywhere else OTP. The food is great. Nothing is typical bar food. It is all exceptional bar food if not better. The staff is very friendly. They dont do anything really sophisticated, but the food is out of this world. My recommendation though is to follow this place on social media. Watch what they are cooking. Youll know when to go.
If you like a fancy, elegant watering hole, this place is not for you! But if you like a fun spot on the square in Marietta, serving a great selection of beer and really tasty pub grub with a friendly staff and atmosphere, then this is your spot! Smoking on the old bar side, but no smoking side with a bar and tables. Specialsavailable, and their signature beers are very good.
Service is extremely slow. Waiters attitude was very non-chalant, and he took forever to come by the table. Advice- order everything at once, and expect everything to come out at once. They do not stagger apps and entrees. But, the food is well worth the wait. Fish and chips are crunchy and not soggy. The burgers are really thick and cooked to order.
Great local bar. Above average food with probably one of the best beer selections Ive come across. Live music every night (not all the people playing are good though). Solid back patio and the old bank/fire house its in has a lot of nooks and crannies. If your looking for a solid bar this is the place.
Great bartender last night. Andi did amazing job, super friendly and helped us pick out some great new wines. Andi’s recommendations for food was on point. Friends in from out of town so glad I took them there. Great bar. Great staff. Thank you Andi for such wonderful friendly service. We will be back to see you
Great dark beer and friendly service in a cool atmosphere with multiple bar locations throughout the establishment one of them being out back with a high wooden wall area. I went during a weekday so it wasnt crowded. There are many cozy sitting locations with couches.
The beer menu is almost endless! Great variety of cocktails and local brew! We went on Friday and caught a live band with talent! The downside is the ceeepy boys who stalk and stare at women just trying to enjoy an evening with friends...bad vibe in the early morning near closing time! Leave early b4 the freaks come out!
Went there for lunch, mainly for the beer selection. When I walked through the door my first impression was it was a dive, which I don’t have a problem with, some of my favorite bars are dives, but this place was filthy. The beer selection was great, the food was average, and the bartender was horrible. Overweight woman with glasses. Walked past us 5 times, never looked up and made eye contact (critical for a bartender), never spoke to us, or even acknowledged us. She even cleared the bar in front of me without looking up or speak to me. The place has potential, if you cleaned it, painted it, and hired some professional help, not just someone with a pulse. Good luck I hope you can turn things around.
How could anyone not love this place? Whether its a boozy Sunday lunch, or a night out on the town, this place is great. The atmosphere is unequaled by any other restaurant/pub. You feel like you took a step back in time. And the food...oh god. Ive had and cooked many a shepherds pie, but they all pale in comparison to how fantastic MacCrackens taste. Dont even get me started on the beer....they have all of it. Literally.Do yourself a favor and just go.
Not welcoming at all. Table cloths where filthy. We sat there for about 10 minutes before walking out. The bartender never looked up when we walked in. We didnt know if there was a hostess stand so we asked this guy that was walking towards us as we thought he worked there. He told us just sit and someone will be with us. It never happened. I had been so looking forward to eating here for so long. I talked my wife into going and was beyond disappointed. We ended up going to Olive Garden where they treat you like family.
Looking for a place to grab a bite after seeing a concert in Atlanta, we thought that this would be a good spot to stop. When we arrived, a sign alerted us that there was no table service and that we should order at the bar (no worries, its a pub.) We tracked down menus, which were chained to the tables, and made our selections. As we approached the bar, the bartender asked whether we were ordering food. When we indicated that we were, he handed us a hand-written night menu that included less than a quarter of the regular menu (again, not a problem, it was late and it is not atypical for a pub to not offer a full menu later.) Making new selections, we went back, only to find that out of the limited menu that we had been given, only those items that were fried were available. My disappointment was palpable; I was really looking forward to trying their Reuben, alas. Making new, new selections, we ordered and requested a draft from the menu which perplexed the bartender. I had to explain that it was one of their imports and he had to go look for it. After an extended wait, he finally delivered our food, sans silverware or napkins. The quality of the food was on par with a fast food restaurant. I would like to give it another go, if I am in the area again, during the day to give that reuben a try.
Probably the best bar outside the perimeter. Definately the best Irish pub in Atlanta. Huge craft and import beer selection. Whiskey options are nearly limitless. The food is outstanding. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Just a great place to hang out and meet people. One stop shopping.
The food was good. But if you are trying to keep safe during Covid do not go here. They take no precautions. The staff do not wear masks and they are not asking patrons to social distance. Had I known that I would have chosen not to eat there. They should at least inform patrons that they do not follow safety protocol. I felt I was unknowingly put in a situation I did not want to be in.
This was my first visit to this establishment. It was AMAZING!! The service was great and the food was even better! We had the Irish Tater Tot Nachos and I would highly recommend them! We sat at the bar and the bartender, Andi was very friendly and exceeded our expectations! If you ever are in the Marietta Square area go by and stop in!! You won’t be sorry!!!:)
This place is a dump. For those of you who havent been, dont go. The waitress was horrible. We all ordered food. Fish and chips, brats and sauerkraut and a burger. It wasnt fit to eat, in fact I questioned whether or not I might get food poisoning from it. Needless to say, most of it was left on the plate. Aside from the horrible food, when we walked in, the bartender was making out behind the bar. We were approached by the waitress for our drink orders after waiting for quite some time without being addressed by any of the employees. If you are looking for a sleazy dump, this is the place for you.
Good selection of beer on tap. Friendly wait staff. Friday and Saturday evenings they have a pub food buffet for around $11.00 There is a section with a couch and a few lounge chairs. Get there before 6:00PM and you should have your selection of seating.Near the square so you have other options if you want to bar hop.
This place is perfect! Everything and more from what you should expect at a Celtic pub...amazing food with super on point recipes, and our bartender(Jackie) made the best mixed drinks! She also poured a proper Guinness every time! I highly recommend this place for any and all occasions!👍👍⬆⬆
Love the food. Absolutely amazing. The best hands down authentic Irish food ever. This guy who owns it has his stuff together. He travels to ireland once a year to make sure recipes are good and make sure he is up to date with latest ale and dishes. That ladies and gentlemen is how you run a pub and restaurant. Bravo!!! I will highly recommend to everyone I can think of. His wait staff are amazing!! His ale and liquor are the best. Ale is perfect!!! This is now our family go to spot. I recommend the bangers and mash and everything else on their menu. And they have their own brews!!
Great Irish pub. The food is authentically Irish, not prepackaged, premade. You can tell they make their food fresh. The shepherds pie was definitely on point. They could do a better job of staffing for outside diners. Our server was the bartender and covering the diners inside and out. Not a good strategy. The bartender was doing the best that she could under the circumstances.
Ordered various veggie appetizers and main course, liked the quality, taste and price.. perfect for gatherings.. if you visit after 5 pm, you can park behind public parking for free couple of hours or Marietta square ( free after 6 pm also).. their beer selection is awesome!!
Great beer prices and selection, amazing whiskey selection as well. Super chill atmosphere and I love the fact that there is a smoking bar and a non-smoking bar so you can get the seedy smokey bar vibe or just chill with family in the quieter and less smelly environs of the non-smoking side. Gets crowded, but the staff are always awesome. (p.s. Trish is the best!)
I have been to Johnnie MacCrackens many times. Large! beer selection and they are doing there own too now. I usually get the fish and chips; they are the perfect good to go with beer. I have also had the flatbread pizza which was really good. Great place to just relax.
THE Holy Grail of beer. Didnt have time to eat here, but if you like real beer, (not watered down rice and barley lager) go here. Oh, and they have tons of scotch as well. I will attempt camping out here on the sidewalk, and I will update my review to let you know how everything goes. But seriously... Wow!! I loved it! See you there 😁!
Rustic wood and brass decor, occasionally the sweet smell of cigars on the smoking side, and damn good food. The staff is great. I highly recommend getting to know your bartenders and dont be a dick. Theyll take good care of you. Find the secret bathroom for stealthy pisses.
I was very excited to visit Johnnie MacCrackens with my family. All the reviews spoke very positively of this little place, but a couple said it was uncomfortably smoky. Well, Im here to tell you, Im adding to all the wonderful reviews of Johnnie MacCrackens!! It wasnt overly smoky at all (it is a bar, people), and my stepdad who is very reserved was totally comfortable here. The food was INCREDIBLE - we had corned beef and cabbage, and shepherds pie. Very authentic, and melt in your mouth delicious. Reasonably priced, and the staff were all so very wonderfully nice and helpful. I cant say enough about this place. I cant wait to go back, and I encourage anyone thinking of trying it to GO! Go now! Its a lovely place and so much fun. I wish I lived closer so I could go on a more regular basis, but rest assured when I am in Marietta I will be at Johnnie MacCrackens. Love love love this place.
I was passing through Marietta again as I do every month and was staying in town with a friend this night. I spent over $150 plus tips in the bar and after a hour later the waitress told me I owed her another 6 bucks for a beer I didnt order even and when I told her she was mistaken I didnt order any other beers I got thrown out of the bar... and for the record my 150 I spent was on other people not myself and I was sober....I travel the country all the time and have never been treated that way after paying my bill I was given and tipping her very well on top! I dont blame the owners but that girl needs to be fired coming from another business owner
I like MacCrackens; its been a good place to retreat when other bars (Two Birds) get too crowded. This is a good place to bring groups especially when the weather is nice so you can take advantage of the beergarden out back. MacCrackens also boasts the best beer menu on the Square, certainly in the top 3 in Cobb County. They have a great selection of Scotch/Whisky and do tastings as well. Im told their Irish food is good, but Im personally not a big fan. They have outdoor seating and I like to drop by with my dog from time to time.Obviously this place goes nuts during St. Patricks day; thats an alternate experience from the usual, for sure.Unfortunately, MacCrackens has lost its luster as of late. If I were to describe the place in one word it would be dingy, while the smoking area is downright gross. With the good service, cool 4-bar layout, and excellent beer menu, MacCrackens has all the ingredients of greatness. Its due for a major facelift/update though, and its going to need it with competition like Glover Park Brewery moving in.Im giving MacCrackens 4 stars only because its been good to me over the years. If this was my first impression I would give it a solid 3/5. Im looking forward to a day when the owners have reinvested in MacCrackens so it can reclaim the top spot on the Square.
How can one not love this? Theres something for everyone here - whether just a quiet Irish meal, or a rowdy live band playing in your ear as you smoke at the main bar.Like a bit more space? Step outside the back porch to the outside bar.Want a more intimate atmosphere? Try finding one of the variety of rooms with a couch / chair in it and sit down with yourself and a few select friends.
From out of town and used Google to find a fun spot to get a bite to eat and beverage after a long day at work. After being dropped off by a Lyft driver at 12:15a.m., I opened the door to only realize they were closed. Poor business practice to publicize a 3a.m. closing time if they close almost three hours earlier than advertised. Looks like a cool place, but if Im ever back in Marietta, I wouldnt take the time to guess and see if they are open for operation or not.Suggestion to the ownership/management, DONT advertise hours of operation if you cant adhere to them!
We have been trying to do our best to support the local businesses around us in Marietta. Today we ordered lunch to-go from Johnnie Maccrackens. Let me tell you, this is the best lunch I’ve gotten even before the quarantine. We got the fish and chips and the pulled pork sandwich. They just hired a chef from Louisiana and you bet your butt we are showing up tomorrow to try their étouffée 😋 They just got their online ordering set up and it was great. If you are in the area you should definitely give them a try and help keep the local restaurants in business.
I freakin love this place! Its huge and great for meeting people and trying new brews. There are painfully few bartenders and the ones there are painfully slow. Sit at the bat if theres a seat and you dont mind patrons constantly trying to buy the bartenders attention.
MacCrackens has a great environment, from the relaxed attitude of the inside to the awesomeness of the giant fire pit outside. There is something about poking a fire with a good beer in my hand that just feels right. Although I have only been a handful of times, each visit has been great.
On Saturday night about 11:45 I was assaulted by a purple and blond haired waitress at Johnny McCrackens. She was viscous, rude and threatened me and my party throughout the night and then followed us outside and proceeded to strike me with a glass. Johnny McCrackens is my favorite place in the area and the only place a truly feel comfortable going. After such long days dealing with underprivileged special needs kids, this is my oasis - the one place I have always been made to feel at home. However after being verbally and physically assaulted I reached out no less than 10 times by phone and email to the owners and received no response. I am disgusted and ashamed I gave this bar so much money over the last year and can no longer feel safe. Even worse than the assault was the lack of compassion and communication by the ownership and management. They have proven they not only dont care about their customers but would rather them feel unsafe and distressed then make sure they feel comfortable in their business. That is sad and disgraceful on their part. For all groups of women attending this bar please watch your backs as a rouge and obnoxious blond and purple haired waitress might just assault you and management allows this to happen and couldnt care less. Sad!
I live near the Marietta Square & enjoy coming here as a local. Service is personable & enjoyable. Great revovling craft beer selection and very knowledgeable staff. Authentic Irish-American menu, food is above average & authentic along with bar food items. Excellent buffet on weekends. Very friendly and local ownership. Located in a unique historic building, previously Matietta firehouse #1 with many fitting tributes to firemen and local heros on the walls. A must visit if in the area. Great place to schedule a party or event for a taste of Marietta. Just communicate for guidelines and proper planning. They love it. My favorite spot is with Tim & Eric on the non-smoking side but everyone is great. Fire pit is around back. Check it out!!!
Great Irish pub in the Marietta Square. Im far from an Irish food/atmosphere connoisseur but this place seems to do a great job keeping things authentic..from the atmosphere to food. They have a good beer selection, local and not-so-local craft beers. They have some really good sandwiches including the best rueben Ive ever had. They get a good size crowd most nights and not a bunch of one tooth wonders as you might expect. There are two indoor bars and a large outdoor patio area which also has a bar (outdoor bar not always open but patio is). Theres also a couple areas with couches and chairs.Im definitely in danger of becoming a regular here.

2022-07-02Super nice service. Not overly busy. Really great food to share. Great drinks. Worth a try, and could become a regular place to hang out. Live music, but not too loud. Awesome. 👍

2022-01-21Not a big fan of fish, but the Fish & Chips here is excellent. Great flavor without tasting fishy. Good value

2022-05-09A few weeks ago I ordered an old fashioned and thought it was lackluster. I got another from another bar recently and realized the McCracken one was awful. Was extremely watered down and, in retrospect, disappointing.

2022-03-06A fairly standard Irish themed bar and pub. Locals seem to love it and are quick to point out the sawdust floors. I will give credit they the cod fish and chip is very good. If you’re in the area it’s worth a stop but I wouldn’t trek to a Marietta specifically for this.

2022-02-28Great spot to grab a casual drink, later hours make it perfect for a crawl or night owls. Super casual, friendly & relaxed bartends lounge, table and bar seating available, all self serve/order at bar.Wouldnt recommend going on a Monday, half the restaurant is closed for deep clean and the only other half open is open mic stand up. Im a big fan of open mic events but the bar is set so low for the people that go up and the few times I went was always cringe or garbage on stage.

2022-04-29Came in on 4/29/22 around 6:05. The bar did get busy upon our arrival. We sat at the bar and saw the bartender was busy, and in an attempt to make things a little easier, went to the register to order drinks. I ordered two drinks and got one immediately and was told my other one would be there in a minute. I sat and watched as every person in the bar got a drink and even walked up to the register to see if maybe I had been forgotten. When I realized my beer wasn’t coming, I paid for my friends beer and headed out. I get being busy but there were several couples around us that had got their whole drink order and food orders in, and somehow I was overlooked. Kind of bummed out cause this place seemed cool.

2022-02-08Great bar in Maritta Square. Staffs are nice and the people there have good vibe. I went there with my girlfriend and her friends, and we had a good time. Would love to come back again since its super close to our house.

2021-06-20I’m giving this place 5 stars because of the atmosphere and friendly folks that frequent here. I got the fried green tomatoes, which were terrible, but the beer was great and the bartender was absolutely fantastic. I would go there for a beer again. The food? Probably not.But who cares, it’s a bar and the people are sweet.
