I used to go here when I was in college, about 15 years ago. It is still great! We ordered appetizer guacamole (it had a hint of hot) and entrees. I got the bistec sandwich. AMAZING!! Everything was fresh and prepared wonderfully. We finished our meal with a Flan, which was even better than I remembered. I highly recommend this place.
This is a horrible picture of one of my favorite dishes from la Fonda! I tried so hard to take a picture before I dug in but as soon as I opened the box the savory sense of arroz con pollo was calling my name! This dish reminds me of home and not everyone can do it right!Great job guys 👏🏽👏🏽 ... I moved out of this area years ago and had to revisit last week. I made sure to stay till they opened at noon!! Love love this place
Great little Mexican restaurant to eat at. The wait staff is super friendly and the food is delicious. You have to try the fruit flavored Margaritas when you go they are delicious. I would recommend new comers and regulars if you havent had there tacos that is the ticket item to get. Generous portions at reasonable price, cant beat it.
Ive been coming to La Fonda frequently since I was a kid, though we started going to this location about 10 years ago. The food is great, my personal favorite is the chicken enchiladas. Of course, guac and queso are necessary! The salsa is probably my favorite in the area. Pretty reasonable prices, too! Only complaint is that they dont have a soda fountain, so their sodas are served in cans and have no refills, but its not a big enough deal for me to redact a star, haha.
We dined at La Fonda Latina Saturday, July 24, 2021 at approximately 5:45PM. I ordered a frozen margarita with no salt. When the waiter finally brought it out, the glass was 3/4 of the way full. I questioned it and he replied, “I usually fill the glass full but the general manager is here. Sorry.” I would think when the GM is present, all glasses would be filled to the rim. My husband ordered the two fish tacos and I ordered the Andes salad. We waited over 39 minutes for these. When they did arrive, the fish tacos, beans and rice were barely warm. We have been eating there for many years and never been disappointed. I’m sorry but they cannot blame this on COVID! There is no excuse for serving a partially full drink and luke warm food. La Fonda get it together post COVID. You can and have done much better than this. If I could show luke warm food I would.
I learned very quickly that black people are not welcomed here. Servers walk by me. Questions were ignored. I felt almost invisible at 6 2 and 225 pounds, hardly invisible. The white couple who witnessed the entire display - when I finally walked by them, just shook their heads in disbelief. I was waiting for guy on ABC to come out, you know his name John Quinones from that show What Would You Do to come out of nowhere with his film crew recording my reactions. Unfortunately, this did not happen this was really happening. Trying to recover from my broken introduction to Lafonda I ordered my food. The chicken was dry from their signature dish, the rice was crunchy and the black beans were lukewarm. No worries lafonda you wont have to worry about seeing this black man ever again. Through it all I even left an$8 tip on my $40 tab to the young lady who probably ignored me the most. Turns out she was the manager! Do what you want with this information I dont need any more examples of terrible customer service and I dont want to be anywhere that I am not welcomed. And oh yeah, those 5 star reviews that mention great customer service are unfortunately from white patrons.
Always enjoyed the paella here in the past but wasn’t sure what I would be able to enjoy being plant-based now. Thankfully they have a few options including a grilled vegetable skewer with squash, onions, peppers, tomatoes and mushrooms served with potatoes that is awesome.#plantbased
Worst first impression!!! Tried to come for dinner, was kicked out the front door while the guy YELLED Several times to stand out at me when I was just trying to get a table. Worst customer service ever. I have no idea how the food is but will never be back based off customer service.
Overall the worst Cuban food I have ever had. The black beans were watery and tasteless, the yellow rice was overcooked and dry, and the ropa vieja was tough and tasteless. I didn’t think it was actually possible to serve a tough plate of ropa, but apparently it is. We also had the guacamole appetizer, which was bland and under spiced, and the chicken soup, which was MADE WITH CANNED CHICKEN. That soup tasted as if it was scooped out of the kitchen sink. Except for the chips, which were fresh, the whole experience was just plain awful. Exceptionally disappointing.
I was excited to try this place. I ordered the Ropa Vieja expecting an amazing Cuban classic. It had no flavor AT ALL. The black beans tasted as if they were from a can and were cold. The yellow rice tasted like the pre cooked rice you get in a bag. There was hardly any meat and it was barely seasoned. The only reason I am giving 2 stars and not 0/1 is because the service was prompt and the waitress was understanding when I informed of the above. Was my first time and I won’t come back.
Always great food! It’s something different than Mexican that is great to throw in the mix of places. If you are used to eating paella in Spain, this still isn’t that but as good as I’ve had stateside. The fish tacos(tilapia on corn tortillas) are some of the best in Atlanta. That’s usually what I get every time because they are so good. Chips and salsa always on point as well! Highly recommend.
So I’ve been coming to La Fonda for many years and have always enjoyed the food and drinks; however during this time frame I have always experienced terrible customer service. The attitudes of the servers are always rude and/or dry. Today I realized something that bothered me to the point where I will never patronize this restaurant again. I’m here by myself trying to enjoy a late lunch and the server has only checked on the people around me. Never coming to my table directly asking if I need anything else, but the white couple next to me has been asked every 5 minutes if they’re okay. It’s quite funny and sad seeing as the servers being of Cuban heritage who are the exact same color (if not darker than me) treat me as a paying customer differently. I will be sure to let all friends/family know to no longer bring their business here. I do not pay and beg to be treated fairly at any establishment.
Always an amazing experience. Food is A+. Service is always on point. But today something happened. And I hope they fix this. I opened the table hot sauce and 2 little gnats flew out of the top. But not just one bottle, 2 out of the 5 on the table. Not cause it was spoiled. But because the mixture of heat and these caps not being cleaned. The picture says it all. I hope La Fonda can fix this issue. We love this place and would hope to come back soon.
Service is lousy. They treat their customers with arrogance. Tall guy comes over and just stares at you until you start giving the order. No thank you, no checking on table for refills or additional chips, salsa. This place gets business because the food is good. Kudos to the team behind the line. Otherwise this is a one star restaurant. No longer recommend this place at all.
The food tastes very authentic and their sangria was well balanced. Had their flan as well which is one of the most rich and creamy I have had so far. If any opportunity open, I would say that their service to the table could have been faster, as we waited for a while to order our desert. Other than that, would definitely recommend.
Food was good, but at this location on Powers Ferry Rd. No good customer service at this location... I am usually a very good tipper, if U give me good service, I didnt because the service was horrible... U asked for something, they act like U were bothering them... Wont ever go back... La Fonda on Howell Mill is better...
Its hard for me to write this b/c I love their food but, unfortunately their customer service has tanked! I went there this past weekend and had the worst experience ever. They basically are doing all orders to go even though they are letting customers use the patio. I was unaware that there would be no servers outside b/c they didnt make that clear. The orders are all bagged as to go. There was a group of young guys two tables over and we were separated by an empty table in-between us. The waiter came out with their food in bags, took the bags to their table and gave them their food. He then took my food and basically threw it on the empty table in between our groups and motioned to me that this was my bag. It was so incredibly rude! !! I went back inside to get a refill of my drink and they have no plan in place for ppl who are dining in. They basically want you to get back on the long line and reorder a soda. Even though you have food, already ordered on the table outside and not to mention youve already WAITED IN LINE. The short guy who is the manager is extremely rude and has no customer service skills and needs to be fired. This was the worst experience!!!
Food is always as expected. Good, not great but it is not very expensive. The salsa is very good and tasty. The service though... Oh my, every time, it is bad. We had the older guy and he looked liked he couldnt be bother to get you stuff. Ive had bad service every time Ive been here. So, I dont go back for a few months. Then, Ill try again a few months later because it was nearby errands and you typically get food quickly. Still bad service. Oh, and I personally dont like places that charge you by cans of soda. Feel like Im getting taken advantage of... With most other restaurants standards of paying the same price for soda and getting free refills has spoiled us I guess ;)Didnt take pictures because it is nothing special. This is a local chain so may go back to another location if I just so happen to pass by.Definitely not a restaurant to drive specifically for.
I had salmon tacos on corn tortillas, we sat on the patio it was a nice atmosphere the food was good. The rice and black beans that came with our tacos was delicious, I would recommend this to those that love authentic Mexican food... its not 100% like the tacos with only onion and cilantro but its darn close
Very torn on this review...Food was good, staff were above average, food score is excellent, restrooms were clean. If I were judging on solely this it would have been a four star review. However, when we arrived one patron was inside and one outside. There were at least 6 people on staff. The tables were presented as bussed but many tables had crumbs and other debris that was obviously visible. More than one package of silverware had large pieces of old crusted food. It is just hard to overlook repeated and obvious cleanliness issues. The Howell Mill location was a near perfect experience. I will return to this location and update my review.
I just left the Roswell Road location. I had a Bloody Maria - excellent. Guacamole - lacking in acid and salt. Pork enchiladas— tortillas were crispy....very odd but the rice and beans were good. Why the single star??? As I picked up my tab not one but two freaking roaches appeared!! One dancing across my table and the other defying gravity by walking up the empty booth across from me. What the Hell? Now I’m going home - stripping down in my garage and leaving my purse outside all freaking night!!
Wow stay away from this place. The service was awful and the waiter couldnt have cared less. The queso was watery even after we let it cool. We ordered dip not soup. It was bad enough we mentioned something to the waiter but he half shrugged and said thats the way it comes. We ordered a burrito, paella, quesadilla and enchiladas...none of which we very good. I personally had the burrito and it was lopsided. All the meat was at one end and all the other ingredients were crammed in the other. We will not be coming back to this place. Even if the food was good the service alone merits not returning.
I have never had paella or a Cuban sandwich until now, and I already am craving more. I am vegetarian and the fact they are able to do vegetarian paella and sandwiches with ease was very nice. The paella was beyond definition, you have to have it. The Cuban sandwich was amazingly crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside. I will be back to devour more
Went on the 4th. Got water and salsa but no one ever came back so we left. Happens to us often. One time our waitress disappeared for 20 minutes. Had to ask another server for our check. A couple of times weve gotten app and drinks but had to wait forever for our order to be taken. Food is good but not going back to this location. Never have this issue at any other location.
La Fonda never disappoints. Ever. They’re probably the most consistant local place in town. The Roswell Rd. location is no different.Any section of the menu is fantastic, my favorite is the veggie tacos. For the meat eaters, the chicken and rice soup is fantastic. For everyone: the free chips and salsa is our favorite (I could eat the salsa like a soup).Food is inexpensive and comes quick. At the busiest times you may wait for a parking spot, but we’ve never waited for a table. Space inside is small, but there’s plenty of patio seating. The only complaint anyone’s ever had is absent service, or slow to bring the check. But this is rare and for the most part servers are friendly and attentive.
Leaving this review on behalf my group:They really focus on the Mexican culture here from the atmosphere to the menu choices. They got the pollo con queso & a couple meal skillets and they were fantastic. The staff kinda acted like they were prisoners in a restaurant, barely said anything but were very fast taking and serving our order.
Its ok....the only thing I like from there is the chicken soup and the tombstones. I have tried different dishes and I have never really being suprised... just average food. The chips and salsa are the best, that I am definitely sure of. I keep.coming back just for the same stuff over and over. Soup and tostones.
Great food however I eat here so often I know when things are off and I don’t like to be lied to. I eat the salmon twice a week and it is usually wild caught. Yesterday I ordered the same dish and was given a farm raised peice of salmon. I know this for a fact as a holistic heath therapist and farm raised salmon is very pale in color and has no bones. I called the restaurant only seeking for clarity and honesty but was lied to. The salmon even had a different taste. la Fonda salmon is always high red in color and has bones! Don’t play with me or on my intelligence! I spend almost $80 a week at this place! Don’t LIE!!!
One of my favorite authinetic mexican restaurants in the city. So expect Black beans with your meal. Menu seems to have a focus of yummyness on its entrees. . Need I say more?Dont worry I will. . My favorite are the shrimp tacos but all my friends seem to be in love with the salmon burrito but Im not that big on burritos (too much girth, not enough flavor). Seems to be a breaded salmon which Im also not a big fan of but just the fact that salmon is an option is cool! Nice patio at this location upstairs but I always feel bad if noone else is up there. Forcing a sever to walk up thoes steps for everything you order lol. . . Not big fan of inconveniencing my servers but that me personally!
This is not authentic, nor fresh. Other than the salsa, everything here tastes like it came out of a can. Also the grilled vegetable options are a joke. I ordered the grilled vegetable entree and I kid you not they gave me a halved potato that was completely raw in the middle. SPEND AN EXTRA FEW BUCKS AND GO TO SUPERICA DOWN THE ROAD!!!!!
I have only been here twice for their food but I come here especially for their salsa! Seriously the most fresh and flavorful salsa you will ever try hands down. It tastes like they just made it back in the kitchen and delivered it to you! I sometimes even come and take the salsa Togo.
Had a terrible experience. Long wait then only to have been brought a plate full of rice, one shrimp and two mussels. When I spoke to themanager he said there was nothing he could do , the food was pre weigh. He didnt offer to put more shrimp. He was the manager and his exact words there was nothing he could do. Time for a manager that knows how to respond to a true complaint and not give theimpression he didnt care. So no dinner for me tonight. My first complaint of any restaurant that I ever posted.
In my opinion the food quality has dropped tremendously. So when me and my wife got out the car to walk in all the customers and workers looked at us like we were coming inside to rob the place not sure the last time they seen a black man with an Asian woman they looked at both of us very crazy service was horrible it was almost like we were bothering them while they were at work. I wont be going to this location again ever Ive been there before though its been some years but they have lost my business at that location Im sure they can care less but if youre black or Asian beware youre probably going to get bad service and a lot of dirty looks from customers and workers.
After reading all the great reviews about the paella, we were looking forward to tryung it. Sadly, it was not what we were hoping for. Their paella was missing everything paela is supposed to have.. No delicious crust and it was obvious everything had been cooked separately then stir fried together at the end, so no flavor combination had occurred. It was basically just fried rice with chicken, sausage, shrimp, and calimari. It wasnt terrible, but it was NOT paella.
Very disappointed. We Found hair in our on the chicken we called the server to show her she was ready to argue and told us it must be ours because all of them have short hair after argument she came back with another plate you can see they brought it back when we said is it fresh she told us we can eat or leave it and we paid and left.
Went for lunch on a Sunday with my wife and the place was empty. We got a table right away. 5min passed and nobody acknowledged us at all. Waitresses and cooks were just talking to each other one waitress was just standing and was on her phone. When we left the host didn’t even bother to ask if everything was okay. Worst customer service.
Ive been eating at la Fonda for 20 years and Ill be eating it for 20 more. Reuben cubano is fantastic. Beef quesadilla is a masterpiece. If youre trying to be healthy, get the Andes salad with the dressing on the side. Some of the best salsa and cheese dip in the city.
Terrible service and the place smells strange. Youd expect a restaurant to smell like food not old mop water. Didnt want to help place an order because they didnt want to get it wrong even though it is items on their menu. A restaurant should be able to help a customer place an order from their menu, right???
Walked to La Fonda a few nights ago for dinner. I forget how great this place is.Love their salsa - fresh and light. My wife had a chicken quesadilla and I had their Cuban sandwich. We both took home leftovers and enjoyed them for dinner the next day.If you want some great Latin food, go to La Fonda, look for a seat on the patio, order a an ice cold beer and pick something from their menu - you cant go wrong
It sucks, first of all im going to start with the service it was terrible i didint get one refill i asked politely every time a server passed by. Our server said nothing AT ALL, and then we got frustrated and we told him that bad service and unkind service wasnt going to get you anywhere. Something that I didnt mention is that he was a smartbutt, our credit card was stuck in our wallet and he was standing there waiting then he did a sigh of ill say angerness and walked away. Last of all the food was terrible i hated the rice and beens that came with my meal so i looked around to see if anyone else was eating them and no one did. La Fonda Latina on roswell road is strongly not recommended by me and it never will be. DO NOT EAT THERE!!!!!!! ID GIVE IT ZERO STARS IF I COULD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
La Fonda is a chain restaurant. It serves liquor but contains no bar. Therefore dont set your expectations so high people!I have no problem with La Fonda for my quick Latin food fix. I almost always order the Seafood Paella that has shrimp, mussels, calamari and its good for a chain restaurant that serves liquor with no bar. It comes in its own little cast iron pot and definitely a good portion size. Plantains are always good. Its casual, most times fast service and lots of selections from Cuban sandwiches to Latin dishes like Arroz con Pollo, rice and beans and Paella. I believe you can get some tacos too. It always meets my need when I want something quick and easy. La Fonda is decent affordable food from a chain restaurant that serves liquor without a bar.
I was there to place to go order. The cashier has a very bad attitude. I don’t speak Spanish or I don’t understand certain words in Spanish so I show them what I need and they was like I have to speak it out I try to explain them that Spanish is not my language but manager was also saying that I have to speak it out. This is my worst experience at this restaurant.
This is easily my favorite place for Latin food in Atlanta. The guacamole is the best in the city. The rice and beans are both vegetarian, and there are a number of excellent vegetarian options. I recommend giving the Quesadilla con Espinanca a try. Its made with fresh spinach instead of cooked, and is excellent. Quesadilla con Frijoles is also no slouch, and the Paella Vegetariana is outstanding.
My family loves this place and told me to try it. The food is great, prices are good and the proportions are even better. I live over an hour away and me and my girlfreind try to come when ever we can or find an excuse. Weve tried a lot of diffrent stuff on the menu and havent really found anything that we dont like, its all really good.
Its been good and bad, I get take out alot. the only thing that I have had happen they sometimes try to pawn off old food like chicken, meaning not old like they made it for someone and they didnt pick it up. You called a hour later and you get it. I have had very dry chicken. It shouldnt even be served.
La Fonda Latin is one of my go to local spots for Latin food. Although this location is a bit smaller than the other La Fonda Latinas located throughout the metro Atlanta area, it also tends to be less crowded. The huevos rancheros is my favorite breakfast dish while the arroz con pollo is my favorite dinner dish. The paella and the queso are also very good. The service here is friendly and fast. There is a small patio area, but it is shared with Fellinis and tends to fill up rather quickly when the weather is nice.

2021-12-11First time here. Not crowded because I got here on a Saturday morning right as it was opening. Superb customer service. I had 3 employees come by to check on me to make sure I didnt have to wait long for anything. Ask for Anthony. He was great! Free salsa and chips with refills. Salsa was made with fresh ingredients. I also had the paella and ropa vieja. My picky 8 year old son who has never had cuban food in his life gave it a thumbs up. Thats a win in my book!

2022-02-04Spent $80 on a to go order and EVERY MEAT was DRY and the rice was CRUNCHY 🤮We order the center cut pork chops (which weren’t center cut), they were SO DRY that we had to throw them away ($14) then ordered 2 orders of the grilled half chicken and BOTH orders were DRY like the Sahara and the rice was Crunchy 🤮Lastly, my hubby enjoyed the paella and AMAZINGLY the rice was cooked well and it was flavorful but EVERYTHING ELSE was DISGUSTING!I wouldn’t suggest La Fonda to ANYONE who KNOWS what good hispanic food taste like EVER! There are WAY BETTER spots than this one!

2022-04-03Food is incredible! The Beef tacos have such great sauce & the beans/rice that accompany are very good! Margaritas are the best! Nice outdoor patio. Parking can be a headache at certain times.

2021-01-04Nice spot to grab some tasty Latin food. We placed an in-person take out order and it took ~15 minutes for our food to be ready. Everything was cooked well, yummy, fairly priced, and the staff was pleasant. Id recommend visiting!

2022-02-07Visited last Friday night 4-February in the evening.Very disappointed with service and quality of food. Our server was not friendly, inattentive, and pushed us constantly for us to order. As soon as we sat down at our table he wanted our order and we hadnt even looked at the menu. And then again within 30 seconds - 1 minute, he pushes again for us to order.. over and over until we were ready. He wasnt helpful with any menu suggestions or checking on our satisfaction with any of the food ordered and delivered at our table. The server spent more time at kitchen window located across from the front door just standing like a hawk waiting for customers to come inside... maybe first server that writes a menu ticket for any table gets assigned that table and the tips so he was more concerned about quantity of tables (turns) assigned to him than actual service (we dont know if thats policy, it just appeared that way).As for the food the Tostones was good with garlic dipping sauce (hard to mess up fried plantains), Queso was cold (maybe had a 1/2 teaspoon or less of chopped Jalapeños... disappointing), Cuban sandwich was all bread with minimal pork and ham (not pressed long, cheese barely melted, served lukewarm), and the paella was probably the worst local Latin dish Ive had in years. We ordered the Original Paella entrée for 2... it lacked any seasoning, had no saffron, no caramelized Socarrat... you know theres an issue when a paella dish that should take 30-45 minutes only takes 10 minutes to be served (fast food style).$30 Paella had two roasted chicken thighs that tasted like it had been cooked days ago and was cold & super dry (no one could eat it), a few shrimp and calamari, and a couple tablespoons of veggies... we also paid upcharge for Chorizo and there was hardly ANY added (seriously like 4 thin little slices). We wouldnt recommend any of their Paella dishes since you can find better options within ATLanta. Overall if you dont mind their speed of service which (1) may reduce quality of food with kitchen rushing to get food out ASAP and (2) your server pushing you constantly to order and out the door at restaurant and (3) enjoy bland mild seasoned food (Americanized), than La Fonda could be a good choice for you. They do have other locations so perhaps our experience is representative of just this location and not the others.

2022-07-05This was my Absolute Favorite. I went recently and both my dad and I had terrible stomach ache after. I know it was a boiling hot day and the beans looks more soupy than usual. All I had was the cheese quesadilla. Sad to say I am taking a break :(

2021-05-19Had an excellent lunch on the patio!!! We had the house soup (pork, hominy, beet, avocado), Tostones (fried plantains), & The Cuban with rice and black beans. Everything was excellent! The first time I had Tostones was in Puerto Rico.. theirs were just as good. Nice, fresh Salsa like everyone writes about.

2022-02-21My favorite restaurant for years. We make a trip to this location every other week. The food is always excellent!Update 02/21/22: Still great after almost 30 years of dining here!
