I used to be stationed out here so I drove 745 miles to come to Minnie’s for a good meal! I miss this soo much I didn’t even get a picture before I went in on my plate my first time trying the fried steak and it was great. Still love the fried chicken and baked chicken more! I’m one satisfied customer!!!
Bland and overpriced. I real southern cooking and it was grocery store quality bland food. If I wanted to get mac & cheese from a grocery store then I would just go there. I see that they purchase from Piggly Wiggly I wish I would have known that before I spent $30 on to meals and 2 pieces of cake. Ugh what a scam!!
Decent cafeteria style food. Southern foods chosen by meat +1,2,3 sides. I got the fried chicken mac and cheese, yams, stuffing and cornbread. This with a sweet tea was about $12. The food was all roughly luke warm but not old. Fried chicken has a hot sauce in the mix. Sweet tea was delicious with free refills. Overall it was like a Thanksgiving cafeteria meal. I had my fill and the experience and atmosphere was probably the best thing about the place. Very friendly people. Food didnt really wow me but for the price its a better alternative for most places.
A wonderful experience of a down home southern lunch. Cafeteria-style seating and delicious meats and sides. The catfish is fantastic (watch out for the bones, of course), plus the grits and collard greens will win over anyone uninitiated to their majesty. Looking forward to returning soon!
Great family owned soul food eatery. The food is always fresh, and great. The service alone will make you come back everytime. No matter what you choose you cant go wrong. The sweet tea is awesome the caramel cake, and collards are my favorite. Only downside of Minnies restaurant is they close at 3pm, so you gotta catch them before they close.
It was my first time and I only went because of the reviews.. food seemed low home quality at best.. boil in a bag rice.. pink hamburger steak.. country time lemonade.. the thinnest slices of cake Ive ever seen.. all I kept asking myself was... wheres the pride? This is my honest review oh and for me and my girl and 1 piece of cake was right at 30 bucks.. I will say I did like the tea and that was the best part of my meal.. that was my 1st and last time eating there.. sorry not sorry
Food was ok ... Had issues with the pickup of a Thanksgiving order. The order was called in from ATLANTA, and I was the one picking it up. What should have taken 15min turned into a 2 hour ordeal.Instead of putting the person who placed and paid for the on the slip, my name it was later found out to be the one on the slip.Thank you to Tracey who was the only one who worked to resolve the issue, while also handling other customers. Tracey is the one that went through every single order placed in an effort to solve the situation. It seems others may have felt that the order was not placed at all.Thank you again Tracey for your help that day. I know that you got delegated to deal with my issue. Minnies should consider you for management, because the manager that day was non-existent.
We came for lunch and had a delightful, home-style meal. The fried chicken was perfect, the vegetables were delicious. Very friendly faces to welcome you. It definitely looks like a hole in the wall but dont let that deter you, it is super clean inside and worth the visit! Be prepared to share a table at lunch time.
NO! Not real soul cooking..Rushed through the line. Food was slapped on plate. Black eye peas were cooked to mush. No white meat available. Corn bread crumbled. I am from the south and know good cooking. This was not it. Woman behind counter hollered at you. Only thing good was the lemon pie.
Im actually kind of sad making this review... When I moved to Columbus 6 years ago, Minnies was one of my favorite places to eat. However, the past 4 times Ive gone, the quality of the food has dropped tremendously. At first I thought maybe it was an off day, but after repeated visits, I think I just ate my last meal from Minnies as much as that pains me to say.
One of my favorite places in Columbus. Parking is sometimes tricky but the service is fast and plenty of dining room space (or you can get it to go). Great non-chain home-cooking. It is a “meat and three” with the typical mix of meat and vegetables. The sweet tea is as good as it gets.
When you are traveling to a family reunion, this is the only place to stop to get real food and ideal/perfect iced tea (the mark of a truly great restaurant). Thank you for the excellent service and great tasting everything. You are the best place to stop on a road trip.
First time I’ve been back since COVID hit. Use to eat here all the time with co workers. Looked like all the same employees still work there, but the food wasn’t pleasing like I expected. I enjoy eating especially southern food and knew this was the place to go. The Mac and cheese was watery and runny and the green beans had no flavor. I got the fried chicken, but the skin was wet and soggy, no crunch. Maybe I came on an off day and will try again at a later date, quite disappointing.
Wow. Words cant even describe how good this restaurant is. I ordered fried grouper and it was literally better than the grouper you order at the beach. I had some friends ordered country fried steak and they both said it was really tender and the best country fried steak theyve ever had. This place was amazing. 10/5
My FAVORITE restaurant ever!!! I absolutely love the staff here because theyre always in a great mood and super friendly. My favorite employee is the white man with brown hair and some facial hair, brown eyes too. I dont know hes always so friendly and makes me remember my experience. The food is always fresh and delicious. I get the burrito or a bowl
Was not what we were expecting when we went... we gave it a try and felt that the food lacked in flavor... the chicken had a great crunch to it but again no flavor.. and the cake we tried was grainy... the hubby did say that the sweet tea was great and I did like the mrs.chicken sauce but that was all... and people were coming in droves to eat there not sure what the hype is .
Good home-cooked meals. We are from out of town and ate lunch on a Friday. Served cafeteria-style. We both had the fried chicken with sides. There wasnt anything exceptional but everything was good and well worth the price. It has enough seating so that shouldnt be a problem. I know for sure there were three food-delivery people that picked up carry-out along with about half the people that came through the line took carry-out while we were there. That makes me think the place is popular with locals and the food quality and favor is dependable. Just as I said in the first line... good home-cooked meals.
Super friendly staff and for the most part, pretty decent food. Most of the veggies tasted canned, the the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were very good. The fried catfish was well cooked, if a little bland, but the country fried steak needed some love. The restaurant itself was pretty clean, but the bathroom was pretty rough. Minnies seems to do some stuff really well, but kinda misses on other stuff. Ill probably give it another chance, just to try the beautiful fried chicken I passed on.
Wonderful people. Wonderful food. Im very picky about my dining experiences. Im bougie. But this place did not disappoint. Fried chicken was amazing! Clean facility. I recommend this place. I like the variety of choices served on the line. Food was hot and fresh. The sweet tea was legit the best Ive ever had.
Absolutely love some Minnies southern cafeteria style food. The place physically is quaint, nothing to rave about. However, the food is usually great, not over seasoned or under cooked. The fried chicken is the exception to this. Every time I have ever eaten the fried chicken it is dry and flavorless. The customer service is good though.
Food was ok...but the portion size for the price is ridiculously small 22.00 for 2 plates which consisted of 1 meat and 2 sides....only if their scoop was bigger than a teaspoon! Now I have to go my regular spot, Yellow Store in Tuskegee to make up for this! The hamburger steak green beans black eyed peas were bland, the chicken was good but the veggies just seemed to be just boiled & the mac and cheese top was rubbery rather than cheesy...hopefully tomorrow will be better......but I will never know.
Great place to stop if you find yourself in Columbus and have a craving for Southern comfort food. This is a bare bones, small town cafeteria,so dont expect upscale. Food is served on paper plates and the sweet tea is strictly self serve. If youre still reading, let me tell you about the food. Good crispy fried chicken, tasty fried okra, and delicious Lima beans. My friend had the hamburger steak and rice and wished he had ordered differently
Thank you! Thank you to everyone person in the kitchen that makes the amazing food at Minnie’s. Thank you to the line workers and their amazing customer service. Thank you to cashier for being so sweet. Thank you to the person in the dining room area for getting me more sweet tea. This place has all the southern charm and soul in its food and employees. I love Minnie’s!!!
A lot of people say it is the best and has great food... I really think this place is over hyped! My country fried steak was way to salty and the breading of the fried steak was coming off. The green beans were definitely CANNED as well. Me and my boyfriend payed over 22 dollars for our food which I feel was very overpriced for some canned food! The atmosphere of the restaurant is kind of depressing, needs to redecorate I feel. There are so many southern/soul food restaurants that are way better, I will not be eating here again.
Best meat and two in the area. We enjoy Sunday dinner EVERY Sunday at Minnies It takes me back to my childhood, every time. Enjoying a plate of macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, turnips and hoecake is just like stepping in my Grandmas kitchen. The southern hospitality is a sweet bonus, too. Five stars and beyond. 👍
If you want a great meat and three place, this is it. They have been doing it right for many, many years. I have never had anything I did not enjoy. This is like a trip to granny’s house you can have every day. The people are always happy and friendly. It does get busy so go early or late or be prepared to wait a little bit to get through the line. It’s definitely worth a wait.
We ordered Minnie’s catering for Christmas as it was delicious! It was simple to pickup a few days early (it was cold/frozen) and all we had to do was heat it up on Christmas Day. We got the meal that serves 8-10 that included turkey and gravy, sweet potato casserole, corn souffle, cornbread dressing, Mac and cheese (omg divine!), and rolls. We added a side of green beans and I’m so glad we did since they were great! We plan to use Minnie’s for catering the holidays in the future! Next time I’ll pickup a cake, too - they looked so yummy!
How refreshing to be able to enjoy a delicious meal with friends in a LOCALLY owned establishment. The menu selection was wonderful and all six of us were pleased. Another plus is that it was quiet, the decor was quite pleasing and we were able to stay at the table chatting without feeling rushed.
Home cooked southern food is always a plus however, this place let me down a little. The chicken and dressing was NOT very good and the chicken literally looked, tasted and smelled like the chicken of the sea (chunks of chicken in a can) that you buy at the store and use to make chicken salad. I was not at all impressed. I will stick with Evelyns cafe where I can always taste the Southern homemade goodness.
Love this restaurant food is filling and you receive a nice portion for the cost. The workers are all amazing pleasant and respectful. No matter how packed it gets people eat and conversation while keeping it moving. One of maybe 5 things I actual enjoy about Columbus Ga
Minnie’s is where it’s at y’all. Im originally from south Louisiana but ive been living in Austin, Texas for 3 years. I came out to Columbus to visit some family and I HAD to find some southern comfort food. Minnie’s Uptown came up on every list I found online. I tried both their fried and baked chicken, both perfectly juicy and tender. I also got their mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and broccoli casserole(reminded me so much of home). In my opinion, the star of the show was the Cornbread dressing. I would have been happy with just a bowl of it. Moist and fulllll of flavor. If you want a REAL southern homestyle meal, you have to check this place out. Not to mention the southern hospitality. When the sweet lady behind the counter calls you Darlin’ and Baby, you know youre gonna leave happy and full
No frills Southern Cafeteria style dining with choices that included cat fish, fried chicken or pork chop, baked chicken and 2 sides. Choice of sides are Mac n cheese, greens, black eyed peas, rice and gravy, stuffing and a biscuit or corn bread. Everything is delicious!! Disposable plates and plastic utensils make it a simple down home delicious southern meal.
This place has the best sesame chicken. The chicken is always fresh (been there probably a good forty times or more) and never disappoints. This is the only dish I order. The only bad thing is that they can put a little too much sauce on the chicken even though I ask for light sauce. Some of the other menu...
Best home cooking in Columbus, GA hands down! Always a favorite after Church and never too crowded. Bring a healthy appetite please! I love the baked chicken, mashed potatoes, collars and a piece of cornbread. Always friendly service and a clean environment. I try to go once a week.
Went there late this morning. Get there early, theres a line by 11:45. Fried fish is fantastic, good collard greens, great corn bread casserole and sweet potatoe. The caramel pie knocked my socks off and was so rich it had to be split with my wife and son. The prices are good too. Highly recommend.
Down home Southern style cooking with fried chicken as good as your momma used to make. Cafeteria style with two adjoining dining rooms. Serve yourself beverages and refills. 1 meat and option of 2, 2 or 3 sides or a veggie plate. Homemade pies and cakes. Youll think you wont have room for dessert, but theyll slide right down. Clear your tray and dump your own trash.
The restaurant is a great place for special occasions, such as birthdays or dates as many people do. It is a high level restaurant, a cozy place to sit down and talk with close family or friends. Prior to dining in, the restaurant will also call to confirm your presence. overall it is a excellent place to taste authentic Italian foods, with sweat environment.
Make sure and check your food because they drop the ball several times on different occasions Im constantly going back giving them an opportunity because I like the food but they do not appreciate my business so never again. My doctor had been telling me I need to stop eating such salty food and this is an opportunity for me to be better and be healthier so thank you minis for continually and consistently messing my food up over and over again you have taught me to stay away and it will be better for me in the long run.
First of all, food is absolutely delicious at Minnies and price is absolutely affordable; that are the primary reasons the restaurant has thrived despite only opening for lunch and located in a not so ideal location. Average customer service. Less than average environment, its a great family restaurant if cost is of consideration. The primary reason that I will not visit Minnies again willingly is because of their disregard to the environment. Everything used in the restaurants is 90% styrofoam and 10% plasticware. For a thriving and established restaurant, I wish the owner would pay more attention to the sustainability of the environment by switching plates/silverware to something that is reusable or something that can be disintegrate.
My mother passed this Thanksgiving and we had no place to give thanks. We noticed Minnie’s was open, they had turkey and dressing and all the trimmings. The food was just like momma used to make. Thanks for making a not so thankful, thanksgiving better. This thanksgiving I am thankful for Minnie’s restaurant having thanksgiving dinner for my family and I.
We had a party to celebrate our sons graduation from OCS and chose Epic, The restaurant is very attractive although small. Our party of 9 had to be split between two tables which was not ideal. However, the food well excellent. The server provided a detailed description of each course. I had the Ostrich, first time trying it, and it...
Thanks but no thanks its nothing about this restaurant that says southern food other than fried chicken & pork chops. Most of all the vegetables are canned with no seasoning. The prices we paid were extremely high for the quality of the food. We didnt even enjoy the tea or lemonade🤦🏽♀️👎
If you want great southern food and a spiritual pick me up, head to Minnies. Fried chicken so good it would make the Pope swear. I would advise coming on a day when you have many important afternoon meetings... eat a solid lunch and then sleep through all of them. Make sure you get a piece of cake-pie, too. Its a wondrous invention where Minnies figured out how to bake a cake with a pie inside of it. Truly magic. Enjoy walking through the line to place your order, as those ladies will make you feel like youre the most amazing person who ever lived.
I learned quickly that my go-to answer to any question here is yes maam, as in would you like the catfish? yes maam. How about fried chicken? Yes maam. Dessert? Yes maam. How about some sweet tea? Yes maam. And its within walking distance to the Columbus Marriot on Front St. and the Georgia State Campus.
I thought this place would have really good souther food, but definetly not the case. Most of the sides looked and tasted like canned food. Meats are DRY and price is above average. Eds on Woodruff Farm Rd is much better. Food is fresh, tasty, and doesnt taste like it came out of a can.
Food and atmosphere are both like you are walking into your school cafeteria and walking into your grandmothers house. The plates and Trays will remind you of school.. the food and atmosphere will remind you of Grannys house during the holidays. I have honestly never had anything from there that was disappointing and not delicious.. If you are thinking about it stop thinking and go.. Feel free to go alone so nobody knows how much you really eat like an animal when the food is that good. I am looking at you Mallory.
Not too good today, wanted my new husband to have the Minnies experience but neither of us really enjoyed the meals. My hamburger steak was preformed and tasteless, his salmon patty was huge and also dry. My corn was good and he said his greens were good. Probably wont come back.
Prices to HIGH! Food FAIR! Watch real close on PRICES, they are not what it appears to be. One meat, 3veggies, bread is advertised $9.95 + tea. We had two dinners and two teas, it was $29.00! At Evelyns restaurant on Hamilton road, we can get the same thing for $17.90, including the tea, and food is EXCELLENT! Dont think Ill be going back here!

2022-03-06First time here and well worth it. Delicious Southern food. Definitely get here early because the line was long as you can see. They also only have certain hours so double check online before you come. Great customer service! Parking is limited but you can park on the side streets so not an issue. Delicious desserts, fried chicken, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cornbread. They have sweet and unsweet tea sitting out on the table in the dining area to refill your drink, also serve pink and regular lemonade. Definitely must try if you are in the area!!

2022-02-18Nice meat and three cafeteria style restaurant! Food was good! Take your lunch to go and walk a few blocks down to the Chattahoochee River!

2021-09-13Very typical southern food (fried chicken, cobbler, green beans, potatoes, etc.). Southerners and lovers of soul food will love this place. Parking is a bit limited, but plenty of street parking in the surrounding area and very walkable. You serve yourself (cafeteria style).

2021-12-02One of the best places to eat in Columbus, GA. I highly recommend it if you are local or visiting the area. It’s always great.

2022-06-27I ordered 3 two piece chicken dinners. Once again, I only had one piece of chicken in the to-go boxes. The food is delicious, that’s why I keep ordering from them. I just wished that they would read their orders better.

2022-05-05Wife and I were in Columbus (from Hawaii) last week to attend our sons graduation from boot camp at Fort Benning. We wanted to enjoy REAL southern style cooking and came across Minnies. I got the fried chicken, mash potatoes, black eyed peas, and collard greens and was not disappointed. By far the best fried chicken I have ever had with its crispy skin on the outside and the ooh so juicy meat within. We will be heading back to Columbus for our other sons promotion in the Army in September and will for sure eat at Minnies Uptown Restaurant again.

2022-06-03Fried chicken is really good here and the mac&Cheese along with corn bread dressing and mashed potatoes . The hamburger steak doesn’t have any flavor but everything else was delicious.

2022-03-07I use to frequent Minnies a few years ago & thoroughly enjoyed it every time. Ive been out of the area & this was my first time visiting since my return. Wasnt wowed with my meal. I had the mac & cheese, cabbage & a salmon pattie. My pattie was cold so I ask to have it reheated. My cornbread muffin was a little hard & not so warm either. Employees were pleasant, but my overall experience was just ok.
