I forget out servers name but she was awesome, especially dealing with a party of 7! Food has been better, but we understand sometimes you get different cooks! We did order a wings appetizer the wasnt good to anyone at the table, but they did remove it from the bill and we only had to send back one steak!
After ordering a drink, was told they cannot make a cosmopolitan.. they have a BAR..and find it hard to believe that they dont have vodka, lime juice, and cranberry juice. Staff was friendly, but we should have been made aware upon arrival that our food may take an HOUR to get to the table. ( 2 adult meals, and 3 kids meals) With 3 very hungry children, it was an awful experience. I may return one day with out the kids, but with my own cranberry and lime.
We arrived at the restaurant and waited about 15 minutes to get a seat. Unfortunately that was the best part of the experience. As we sat at the table and watched others get seated then get their food over and over. Our food did not come out to us for an hour and a half. I felt like our order was not turned and we didn’t get so much as an apology. We had to be somewhere so I couldn’t tell you if the food was good or not because we didn’t get to sit down and enjoy it.
First time we went it was pretty great, the last time we went my husband now refuses to go back. They were out of so much food. Service was terrible. Husband ordered steak and shrimp (comes with certain oz steak, you could upgrade for more $) husband wanted what it came with. A while after ordering we were informed they were out of that size steak and they would have to give him the larger steak, but he would have to pay for it. None of our sides were right. Half of us didnt get our sides after waiting about 1.5 hours after ordering to get our food... oh, and they werent busy....
The place is in desperate need of a good cleaning! That side patio dining room especially! The walls and decors are dusty, the wall heater has old, splattered food and dust on it, the door going through btwn the two dining rooms, is disgusting and shouldnt be touched by anyone eating or serving food. Yall need to do better. We were disappointed.
We have been here countless times over the past few years - food and service have always been excellent - our most recent trip was not the same experience. We love eating here and understand everyone has good days and bad - cant wait to try them again and allow them to redeem themselves!
Weve had a couple bad experiences here so we decided to give it another shot. Bad idea. The food is good but service goes downhill a little more with each visit. I sit here writing this with a dry mouth as I cant even flag anyone down to refill my tea! At this point I just want to settle up the check and go.......well drive a little further and wait a little longer and take our business to Skippers from now on. Rona was the original excuse for the service but weve reached a point where that dont fly anymore.
We were traveling and wanted a local spot. We hit the jackpot. So neat how it at a small riverside dock and fising tradingpost. Indoor and outdoor dining. Such a pretty veiw while enjoying your meal! food was very good! Clean and was not any trouble to get to, just a few short miles from the interstate.
We were on our way back to FL from SC and found this hole in the wall (GEM) on Google maps. We decided to try it. They had just opened for lunch. We sat outside in a gazebo and its right on the water. Lots of boats docked as its also a Marina. Very beautiful atmosphere. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The tea was brewed and sweet. The food was excellent! You do get birds that fly around you waiting for a handout. 😂 we gave them some french fries and it was a big show. Id recommend this place for sure! They also have outdoor sinks where you can clean your catch. There was a man cleaning fish and the birds were ready and waiting for a snack! So neat to watch.
My Son took me to eat there for the very first time, very clean , friendly an courtesy was outstanding, food a little up there for me glad my son was paying lol food was well worth it very good portion I very much recommend them to try this place when you can, I enjoyed this very much... Try is all you will be happy you did.
My wife & I eat here weekly. Food is great. Duo shrimp & scallops are tha bomb. The best asparagus I’ve ever had. They have gator tail, crab stew, crab balls, onion rings & tons of other seafood & sides. Staff is friendly and the view is beautiful. Watching boats coming into the harbor with their catch of the day is cool.
Just 6 minutes off 95 and entirely worth it. An excellent place to stop if you have about 40 minutes to spare. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. Simply delicious with lots of options. Plenty of parking. Located in the marina. Our waitress was extraordinarily nice and attentive. There are multiple bathrooms. No gas here. Come to rest and eat. Excellent views of the boats and water.
Always love to go there will miss this place very muchGood scenery especially if you are there when the police comes in for lunch you watch them all line up and come in to the restaurantThat area has is training for the police academy and traffic ⛔ n the oceanThe food is very good alsoWaitress are friendly
Mud cat Charlies is our new favorite sea food place. We will be back often. The food was spot on. Id never had fried jalapeno slices but they were delicious. The gator tall was perfect. All of it was a wonderful experience from arrival to leaving. The staff is friendly the whole place is clean. Love love LOVE IT. ❤️ Very relaxing atmosphere. Nothing felt rushed. Wish I could give more than 5 stars.
Best find in the Brunswick area! While the seafood is good, their BURGERS are out of this world. I was not expecting to be so impressed with this place, but their burgers are outrageously delicious. They also have excellent dessert and a good bar selection with friendly staff.
We did an appetizer lunch. Me and hubby split crab balls, gator tail and mahi tacos with sweet potato fries. For $35 it was so filling and tasted AMAZING!!! I think this might have been the best Gator tail I have ever had! Excellent service and excellent food with a pretty dock view! Will be returning!!!!
We are on vacation so this is our first visit to Mudcat Charlies and it was soooo good. The PoBoy Sandwich was delish. We added their coleslaw to it ... which was yummy all by itself. 😋 The Mac-n-Cheese was tasty and the onion rings were made with sweet Vidalias and the yummiest Ive ever tasted. We all sampled a slice of Blueberry Cream Cheese Pie and Banana Fosters Pie. OMGoodness. They we both so delicious. The Banana Foster Pie tasted like banana pudding. It was ridiculously good.We would highly recommend. Service was great as well.
Terrible, terrible service. Our party of 6 arrived together and we were seated and but never acknowledged in 20 minutes of being seated. After personally notifying the hostess we needed a server... we still sat another 10 minutes without being waited on, and decided to leave for another local restaurant Skippers Fish camp that actually values their diners. If you want value and service SKIP out on Mudcat Charlies and go somewhere else!
We stopped by randomly the other day when they happened to be unusually busy (all the other restaurants nearby had a water main break and were closed). Though they were swamped, we were seated very quickly (less than 10 min), and every staff member we talked to was extremely friendly. Im sure they were all stressed, but did not let it effect their wonderful customer service.More importantly, the food was great!! Came quickly too. We shared the Mudcat platter, and that was a ton of delicious food!! Turned out to be better than the original restaurant we had intended to go to!
Went on a date there.. Both of us had never been there before. A family member that had been there before suggested that I should go there go there due to the atmosphere there and food. We both got there, Its a very quaint place. We ordered gator tail as an appetizer. Both of us agreed that that was one of the best gaiter that we have tasted. It was season to perfection in our opinion. The server, Tommy, Was Is knowledgeable, Courteous, And had near perfect timing each time coming to our table. She ordered the salmon Dijon and I ordered the Mudcat platter. The salmon was a little undercooked. But they corrected the problem quickly and she enjoyed it. The platter was great everything was seasoned just right. Then, we shared a banana cheesecake, that was the best cheesecake Ive had in a long time. In the end, we will definitely go back in the near future. Thank you!!!
I paid entirely too much but we were celebrating. Cant do it very often but had to cut loose this time. Surprised to find them open today. Most places like this are Thursday, Friday, Saturday only. Food was great. The crab soup was phenomenal! Mattie was a great server. (She was rewarded.) We look forward to our next visit.
It was pretty good and not expensive, despite Covid, service was well. Thank you for making our Georgia seafood meal great. A special treat was found outside, the alligator was not bad to see up close. We are not from the east coast, we don’t see them in the wild as much.
BEST SEAFOOD EVER! My husband and I came here for my birthday dinner. I couldnt decide what to get so we split the Mudcat Platter. There was SO MUCH FOOD. The platter includes snow crab, shrimp, giant scallops, mussels, mahi mahi, hushpuppies and 2 sides (whe chose seasoned fries and smoked mac n cheese. My husband cut up a scallop and put it in the mac n cheese which only elevates it even more). We were SHOCKED that all that food was all only $30 and that everything tasted like it was fresh caught that day! They offer it all blackened, grilled, or fried and we opted for fried. Our waitress was incredibly kind and got our food out quickly and kept our drinks full. I wish we didnt live states away, because this is my new favorite restaurant!
Wonderful low key eatery. My husband and two girls and I were driving back from Jersey to Florida and went off of the highway to eat. Im a huge fan of water oriented eateries. The food was very good (burger and onion rings). The waitresses were awesome. We saw this car pull in as we were leaving. Quite a beauty!
Food is pretty good. I personally was not impressed with a black face figurine as soon as I walked in. Everyone knows everyone do you may see customers going behind the counters for hugs. I wasnt really impressed. The server just walked to our table and was like, What can I get for yall? No introduction or anything. If youre looking for a place with good food served on paper plates and alcoholic beverages but low standards of service, go ahead. Youll enjoy the meal.
What a cool little place. We stopped on the way back from Jacksonville airport. Half way in between Savannah and JAX. Thoroughly enjoyed everything from the food, the atmosphere, the staff and a friendly thank you from the owners on our way out. Loved it and will definitely be back.
I didnt like the statue of a black fishing boy with a Santa Claus hat on the bar. Not right! Bad taste! Bathroom was dirty, dust hanging from fan, window blinds dirty. Food was good though. Plastic silverware and styrofoam plates. For the price I paid I think they can do better!
Local Seafood house on a marina. I had the fried shrimp and oysters. There was a great sized portion of both and they were excellent. The cole slaw is a little different but good. It comes out without dressing mixed in and with their house dressing on the side. The service was excellent. I will definately return the next time Im in the area.
We were traveling through and thought wed check out this place to support some local economy. Service was great, Hannah was excellent in making sure we were taken care of. The food was a big let down. Fake bacon bits, the shrimp was over cooked, the breading on the fried scallops was falling off and the texture was either pre cooked or steamed prior to frying. The hamburger my son got was large and he said it was good.. The resturant was run down but seemed clean. Too bad the food wasnt good.
Mi wife and I and friends were out looking at the lights on St. Simons Island!...Then we decided to go get some dinner!...Heard that Mudcat Charlies was a great place to go to!...So we did!...What we heard was correct!...The food was great and srvice was great too!....We all stuffed ourselves!...Highly recommend you give Mudcat Charlies a try!...We did and will be back!...
Upon entering, they in formed us about their limited staff. I sent the appetizer back to be cooked a little longer. Throughout the time we sat there, we notice that several other parties that came and ordered after us, received their food. I went to the front to ask for the manager. The ladies at the front said that Richard was on the phone. So I paid for my appetizer and went elsewhere. This shouldnt be the way business is done in this day and time. We will not go there again.
The service was very good the food just pretty good. Fish and shrimp were a little overcooked but the onion rings and ahi tuna were great as was our seever. Its a really cool place being out on a working marina on the river with boats everywhere but the food could be a little better for the price
Steak ordered medium. Both still twitching they were so undercooked. Asparagus undercooked after specifically asking for it to be cooked tender. Shrimp overcooked to the point of being like rubber. Lack of training? Rushing food out? Cooks didnt care? Who knows, but this is 2 strikes now and they will not get another penny of our hard earned money. Waitress was awesome by the way, but we didnt want to keep troubling her with the kitchens incompetence. Added in an edit...forgot to mention my 16 year old son got the chicken tender meal. 4 tenders about the size of a pinky finger. Really? Had to order him 10 wings to get him the rest of a meal he didnt get. Bye bye Mudcat Charlies. Our paths will not cross again.
We randomly stopped here on the ride home from Daytona Bike week. Being in the restaurant industry myself, I had to compliment this establishment.. Our server Kelsey was incredibly warm, welcoming, and helpful as we were undecided with menu options. I can’t say enough about her. She was friendly, fun, and professional!!! Food was excellent from appetizers to main courses. This is real food and real good southern cooking. Gator tails were deliciously seasoned and cooked to perfection. If you’ve never been, it’s a must have experience. Thank you Mudcat Charlie’s and Kelsey for a great dinner and dining experience
They lied to Capitol One about the food being wrong so they are THEIVES. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE.I ate dinner here a few times and it was good so I decided to call my lunch in and pick it up.1st time the ribeye was Rare. I ordered medium well. I called and they refunded my money.2nd time, the following week, I called and ordered the same exact meal but asked if I should order something besides the ribeye if medium well was too hard to do. The person stated that it was not and took my order. I get back home to eat MY LUNCH that I picked up. The steak was then so over cooked I could not cut the center of the steak. I called and asked if theyd just like me to bring the whole meal back and forget it and they were rude and hung up on me. I then disputed the charge on my card AND THEY LIED TO CAPITOL ONE REGARDING THE INCIDENT, they are THEIVES.
Above average seafood in a rustic fish camp setting. Restaurant overlooks the river and marina once you make your way inside. The service was super, efficient and affable. The food was first taste. We had a fish sandwich and fried shrimp platter. The fish was freshly breaded and fried and served too hot to eat - from fryer to table, yum. The shrimp was fresh Georgia shrimp - sweet and tasty. We opted for onion rings for a side - they were worth the trip down. Superior. Highly recommend this place for a more casual meal. Oh, good selection of adult beverages too.
Been going to mudcats since my family moved there in 1999. Even with me moving away and having my own family if Im ever in Darien I go to mudcats. I invited some friends to come with us this going around. The gator tail was awesome the crab balls were so good loved the fried mushrooms. Basically the food was awesome the view was beautiful we decided after the bounty of the sea festival to go have dinner at mudcats. Only issue we had was a birthday party going on so it was really loud kids crying the people having the party were really loud we couldnt even hear the person sitting next to us at our table. it took us about a hour to get a seat then almost two hours to get our food. While I understand staffing is low right now and there was a birthday party that took up the restaurants attention that was the only issue we had. The waitress we had was very nice but she was waiting on the birthday party people so they had 3 people waiting on the birthday party I think thats all the staff they had other then the bar tender and cooking staff. Honestly if we would have none that we probably would have went some where else for dinner. Again we love going to mudcats we even showed up early to try to not be around the big crowds.
Sunday lunch. Got there before the crowd but still a little busy. Waitress was very pleasant person and capable. Food took 45 minutes to get- hamburgers and fries. Fries were cooked excellent. One hamburger was overdone- not bad. One hamburger was one half side medium and the other half side rare-how that happens I have no clue.
Worst experience I have had anywhere on the coast. I walked in and the hostess seated me. It took 20 minutes for them to take my order. Once I ordered it took 30 minutes to get my food. I ordered a 16 Oz rib eye rare. Instead, I got a steak that was very well-done. It took another 10-15 minutes for them to come back to my table just to tell them my steak was not what I ordered. It took another 20 minutes to get the 16 oz rare steak that I had originally ordered. When they finally returned with the steak the second time it wasnt rare. It was raw and cold.
This was our first time there. Had to wait @ 30 min, but not a big deal. Very pretty down by the marina + an awesome sunset as well. There was 3 of us and all three of us were fairly happy with our meals. Nothing really stood out good or bad. Batter for the shrimp & onion rings was very bland. Service was good & our waitress was very nice. Probably a 3 1/2 stars would be appropriate if that was a choice. We definitely prefer B & Js in Darien over Mudcat Charlies. Much better shrimp there.
Horrible communication. We were told on the phone it would be 45 minutes. When we got there they said it was 1.5 hr wait. Then we find out the outdoor seating is closed... At sunset.. the reason we went there in the first place. They suggested we buy our meal to go and go sit on the deck... Styrofoam box with no service.. I dont think so. Lost our business, gained our review. Nice job folks.
Whether your a local or just passing through, you need to add this to your list of places to stop. friendly people, great views, awesome food and of course, plenty of choices for drinks. No need to get dressed up, and dont be turned off by the picnic plates and such. Its all part of the experience and it is one that is sure to have you back soon! PS-Get ya some crab balls while your here!
I had fried shrimp and filet. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. The shrimp was just as good. Even though they are practicing social distancing, we did not have a wait, but we were very early for super. A little pricey but great food and atmosphere is hard to find. We will go back when in town.
Nice local place down on the water. We saw the billboard out on I-95 on our way to Florida and thought it sounded cool. It was only 11 min. Out of the way and you gat back on the highway a couple miles down the road from where you get off. Staff was very nice, locals chatted us up as well and food was delicious. The only disappointment was we didnt see any gators.
Went a couple of weeks ago and was told I could add crab legs as an appetizer for $5. Went tonight and paid 13.95 for 1 claw after the waitress told us it wasn13.95 for 2. She Maud our experience unpleasant too. You shouldnt argue with a customer. Asked for a 2nd drink from the bar and it took her 20 minutes to bring it to us. Was hanging out at the back door.
I had an amazing experience eating at this exquisite establishment. The atmosphere and freindly staff truly protray the famous southern hospitality. Their grilled catfish was the most tender fish Ive ever tried, and the gator tails are to die for. The wings were very good and the side dishes were excellent. My expectations were exceeded, as coming in I wasnt expecting much for a eatery in the middle of the Georgia swamps. The view is beautiful and the wildlife is awsome. The cherry on top was when my food came 10-15 minutes later than expected, I was rewarded with complementary refreshments. The place isnt fancy, but they make you feel like home. This is my favorite place to dine in Georgia with great food and it is very fairly priced. Lastly, you get to experience an authentic Georgia country feel without it being tacky . A+.
I absolutely loved this place. The food was amazing. Great portions, flavors and so many choices. Our waitress Nicole was AMAZING she went above and beyond on everything. She made sure that that everything was the way we needed and wanted. I will definitely travel back from Savannah just for the food and will hope that Nicole is working ❤️❤️❤️
Outstanding service and food. The owner followed the mandated restaurant guidelines. Our servers wore mask and kept everything exceptionally clean. We had a large group that was spaced out over 5 different tables with more than adequate spacing. Couldn’t have ask for a better meal and service. I highly recommend this restaurant. You won’t be disappointed.
Crab cake sandwich doesnt appear to even have crab in it, the pork chop sandwich was dry and thin, the crab balls were heavy on the green pepper and like the sandwich sparse on the crab, no ketchup for the fries, and no plastic ware for the cole slaw. I had to ask for my drinks as the server forgot to bring them with the take out order. The cokes were good though. It wasnt busy so there are no excuses. I probably should give them a 1.
We were looking for a seafood restaurant and went to Skippers fish camp. Well, they were closed for a remodel. But, they sent us 2 miles down the road Mudcat Charlies. If youve never been, I recommend the Mudcat platter. Delicious!! And filling! Friendly staff. Shout out to Stacy! Thank You!
Subpar seafood especially for the location. Prices are a bit insane when you consider the seafood restaurants on the Island. The servers were quick and responsive to everyone at my table except my friend of color, who they went out of the way to ignore. Not a safe place for anyone with a gluten intolerance or allergy.
We were headed back to DE/PA from Daytona Bikeweek 2021 & wanted a bite to eat... everyones food looked great. I had Scallops, Asparagus & Mac n Cheese... It was absolutely DELICIOUS... Our waitress Kelsey was extremely attentive, personable & informative... I give this spot 5☆s... the food was FABULOUS & Service even better!
Really well done Southern style seafood place on a marina. Staff is really courteous and good at what they do. Food is great and fast. Bar is a great place to strike up a conversation about anything or BS about boats and fishing. Nice view of the river. Great place for a leisurely Saturday lunch.
The atmosphere was pleasant and our waitress was ever so attentive. The food was hot when it came to the table. Every bite was delicious. As tasty as it was, I could only eat half. I did have a midnight snack that finished it up though. I will definitely be going back there.
Was looking forward to a nice dinner but had a terrible experience all around. Began with an teenage hostess with attitude who doesnt make eye contact. Was told there are only 3 tables being occupied, arrived 5 min later to find that the place began to get packed and the restaurant was not following any guidelines to distance tables. So we asked to have our entree packed up to go. After waiting >30 min, the platter came out cold and without the FISH. Thank God we checked the food before we left the parking lot. Also, the inside isnt particularly clean or organized and the food is exceptionally salty and sub-par. Will not be returning.
Food was amazing! Service was a little slow but the waitress was extremely busy. She was also extremely nice. The hush puppies. .. Omg the hush puppies!! I dont even like hush puppies but these were delicious! I asked our waitress for more to take home which she brought to me (No extra charge) and I was totally over the initial wait to get served. Atmosphere was friendly and the owner even made rounds through the restaurant to check on customers. We sat outside after dinner on the deck after hours and no one complained or ran us off. Even got to meet the owners sweet dogs which really made my night because we were on the road for about 2 weeks and I really miss my own. Awesome place would definitely recommend to anyone passing through.
I had not been in a while until recently and I was disappointed. The blackened shrimp & scallops had no flavor other than the blackening seasoning, the crab stew was nothing but flour flavor and our waitress terrible. That was at lunch. The only thing keeping this restuarant afloat is the lovely water front environment. Please step up the food because this is to nice of a place for inadequate food. A shame to coastal dining.
Went there with family for Saturday evening dinner. My wife and my mothers food was under cooked. Couldnt hardly hear the waitress over drunk bubba at the bar yelling about the UGA scoring again. Everything served on plastic plates. It was like having dinner at a frat house. Server was good and accommodating, but slow and sporadic. Very disappointing. Will NOT go here again.
Good spot to get a great quantity of food, little pricey, but it’s definitely tasty. Had the surf and turf, steak was a little salty to my taste, but cooked perfectly.I’d recommend you try their blue cheese dressing, it could just change your life.Indoor seating is available as on how.Staff is super cool peeps.
The food is really good. The staff is hit or miss. One or two of them act like theyre really doing you a favor by being there, others are great. The biggest drawback, however, is that the portions are small and the prices are large. I paid over $16 for 8 small steamed shrimp with fries and a dollar-menu sized side salad. It was good but it wasnt that good. Ah well.
Very good seafood service was a little slack with the current situation you have to ask for everything because there is nothing on the tables. No condiments. When you ask for them they kind of slip the little waitress mind.Overall things were pretty good. Maybe when things get back to normal. You want have to ask for everything.
We are from Metter , Ga and we came to Jekyll for the day and on the way home I told my husband I wanted some really good seafood. He had heard of your place so we looked up the reviews and couldn’t resist trying it out and we were not disappointed! I had the fried shrimp and oysters and my niece had the grilled shrimp & scallops and let me say the portion was plentiful. My husband ordered the shrimp salad on a croissant and let me just say that all was delicious! Wait staff were great and very nice atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back on our next trip.
Absolutely loved the atmosphere, we sat at the bar and a local guy entertained us while we waited for our food. We had the sampler. Definitely a shareable portion. Shrimp is amazing, blackened fish was perfectly cooked, grilled asparagus was delicious, would not reccomend the sweet potato fries, but overall really great food.
The restaurant is slightly out of the way but a good place for fresh seafood. They have shrimp, fish and oyster baskets and Po Boy sandwiches served with one side. The sweet potato fries are an excellent choice. It features a full bar with several beers in bottles or on tap. The calamari is a good appetizer that can shared by several people. The scallops were tasty and was served with a good-sized portion. They have salads and other menu options for smaller appetites.
I wish we would have found this place on our first night here for vacation because we would have definitely come back throughout it. The food was AMAZING and the prices are VERY fair. Between my family of 3 we shared 6 huge crab legs, fried shrimp, scallops, and fish. The macaroni is homemade and it was soooo good. Our server Amanda was very sweet and the view of the water and boats was fun. We will definitely come back the next time we are in the area.
Hostess said 1 hour or more wait. Got in early no problem . Waited 15 minute completely ignored. Approach hostess manager too busy to talk . I thought that was BS. Never did come to even apologized. Food wasn’t good at all , over crooked. Wouldn’t recommend this placed for people of color
A nice location to stop for a meal, however, the sitting outside (perhaps a highlight of this restaurant) was not possible due to reduction in personnel. Well this could be a better choice in covid time rather than stuffing guests inside. The sampler food was good but I wasnt blown away and the potatoes with bacon and chicken were better than the seafood part of that sampler. Perhaps it could be better. I really enjoyed the Brunswick stew.
Havent been in a very long time. I will frequent more often when visiting the coast. Seafood is fresh and very tasty. The restaurant has great views of the marina and river. I had a combo of fried shrimp and fried fish, delicious! Everyone in my party enjoyed their food.
We New it was going to be slow because the website stated that but we expected better food. Service was slow and the food was cold. If you can make fried shrimp awful it was. Crabs were cold. The best thing we actually got was the onion rings. Might have just been a bad night but we want be going back. The company I had was great though.
On the way home from vacation my girlfriend found this place and read the reviews. Boy was nicole wrong, this place was incredible! We got a platter of fish, scallops, shrimp, crab legs, and 2 sides for only $30 and we couldnt even finish it. Kelsey was our server and was so sweet and helpful. We will definitely be back!
We came back for about the fourth time, its always a good meal in the Darien area. The enclosed porch is comfortable and has great views of the boats coming and going. My favorite menu item is the fish sandwich with onion rings, but everything weve had has been good. They have some good beers on tap, too. Casual feel, its a great choice for sandwiches and simple seafood dishes.
What a great find thru a Google search for a seafood place while traveling on l-95. Service was great, bartender was very friendly, place was rustic & clean but most of all our food was awesome. It came quickly & was hot. Almost everything we ordered was fried but it was a very light dusting almost, not a heavy batter where you have more coating than shrimp. We will DEFINITELY return in future travels thru the area.
Stopped in late on Saturday night, just happy to find they were open. Waitress was very good, pleasant, although we were their last customers of the night. Authentic and charming fish camp setting, no frills or fakery....this is the real thing. All 4 in our party got fried shrimp and onion rings. Very disappointing....both shrimp and onion rings were so heavily breaded we were hard pressed to tell which we were eating. My fault, I had been told their grilled shrimp and fish are superb. I should have ordered non-fried but thought Id stick with my group for simplicity so late.We had a nice time and will be back, but Ill try my shrimp grilled instead of fried.
Great ambiance. With this many old people eating this much fried food, it must be fantastic, right? Must have? Crab balls, onion rings and the 100 year or so old family recipe to-die-for bisque! Come by boat! Get gas at the marina store. Have an awesome meal in an amazing spot. Love the art, too. The lighthouse art is my fave. SLS

2022-06-08This place is always one of my favorites to stop in and grab some food. Majority of their menu is fried, but with the homemade batter, its so delicious! My go-to is usually fried mushrooms and a blackened crab cake sandwich. The protion sizes are nothing to be disappointed with and the price is just right. The staff is always hardworking and friendly even when its crazy busy! If youre in the area, stop by and give it a whirl!

2022-07-08Mudcat Charlies for lunch! Opted to dine on the enclosed porch which was delightfully well air-conditioned on a hot day. Nice to look out over the marina and river. We started with the crab balls appetizer...WOW, what a delightful start to lunch. Crunchy on the outside and so moist, flavorful and packed with succulent crab on the inside. Well seasoned, this could have been my lunch. My companion ordered the whole, bone-in catfish, however, they were out. Our server said their supplier cannot get catfish, so another victim of supply chain issues. Both of us then ordered the fried shrimp meal with two sides. Shrimp came lightly battered, crispy and well seasoned. We both agreed that the shrimp was delicious. Sides were ho-hum. Fries and sweet potato fries were nothing special. My cole slaw arrived undressed with a seasoned mayo dressing on the side. Again, ho-hum, and I did not like the dressing. My companion had the green beans, which were also ho-hum. Server was attentive, friendly and helpful, and everything came out hot and fresh. For the amount of money spent, I was disappointed that the whole meal wasnt better.

2022-06-07When we first pulled up we werent sure where the restaurant was. There is no real signage to say where the entrance is.Once we found it and entered we found a sort of sports bar seafood shack restaurant. Pretty much exactly what you would expect from Mudcat Charlie. We sat on the inside porch and didnt expect too much from the menu: fried, grilled or blackened options for fish, shrimp, scallops, etc. Again your typical seafood shack menu. However, when I asked what the grilled fish was I was told something local. I cant remember what it was called, but it was definitely caught in the local waters as Ive never heard it anywhere else before. When it arrived it was beautifully seasoned on a soft hoagie roll, with homemade tartar and cocktail sauces for dipping. It also came with very fresh romaine and fresh tomato. I look forward to going back and finding out what it was so I can order it again. If youre in the Brunswick area and have a bit of time for wonderful fresh seafood, take a trip up to Mudcat Charlies. You wont be disappointed!

2022-06-12We stopped for a bite of lunch on the way home. Found this place online (google maps) and it looked right up my alley! I wasn’t disappointed. Beer was ice cold, fish was cooked perfectly, and the wait staff were great! Don’t let the exterior scare you, it’s a great find. Clearly, the locals love it, and I saw the occasional boat tie up and come in for lunch!

2021-11-25Mudcat Charlies was a delightful lunch stop. I love Brunswick stew and it is delicious here. The place was not busy so the bartender server gave us great attention. The view was good as we love anywhere on the water. Ill try to make it a point to dine again when we are back in the area!

2022-06-02Average to good fried seafood. Good location. Stroll on the dock that is located on a tidal area of the mighty Altamaha River. If you time it right you can watch the tide come in or out.Not too keen on using all the disposable cutlery, plates, bowls, etc.Been many times and plan to continue.

2021-10-05The beautiful view at the marina right on the water was the best. Laid back and cool vibe. Seafood wasnt great but maybe it was an off day. The steak was delicious as well as the fried mushrooms. The hostess and waitresses were all friendly and assertive.

2022-01-19Picked Mudcat Charlies for a family gathering. As always, the food was excellent and our server was outstanding. Most of us had fried shrimp - always a great choice. A couple had steak - both were cooked to perfection! The drinks were great - cant forget those. If you have never been to Mudcat Charlies, you need to try it - YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID!

2022-02-22Perfect place for a restaurant make over show. I’ll let the picture of “mahi taco” speak for itself. A fish stick wrapped in a flour tortilla. Smh. The Brunswick Stew was full of flavor, but served lukewarm in styrofoam. Three stars so as not to destroy their rating but really was a 1 star experience. Will never go back.
