Okinawa Steak & Sushi in other cities:
The staff was courteous and listened well. I was there Easter Sunday 2021 and they were not busy when I arrived. It took a bit of time to get our order. Unfortunately, the chicken hibachi and shrimp hibachi were lacking flavor because the chicken and shrimp were tough from being overcooked. The steak in our steak and chicken hibachi was cooked way beyond medium but somehow still most. I might go again but would plead for meat thats not overcooked.
The food is NOT good and it is completely over priced. We got a take out order they charged us .75 cents for one teriyaki sauce and then we got home and they never even put the teriyaki sauce in the bag! I called and she preceded to tell me her packing lady said she put it in bag and that it was wrapped with the yellow sauces...basically accused me of lying. It was 100% not with the other sauces and not in the bag. So not only we were charged the money for something they left out of the bag they also did not offer a refund for the sauce..I had to request to be refunded. On top of all that the food was freezing the chicken was dry as can be and it was 40 dollars for something that tasted like a microwaveable TV dinner. Spend your money elsewhere!! It is gross, overpriced, and customer service is LACKING!!!!!!! Also stop charging people .75 cents for sauce... you’re making 40 dollars off of two people for a very small amount of food.. charging for one sauce is cheap and ridiculous and if you were going to charge people for sauce put it in the bag.
Wasnt impressed. Food portion was small for the amount they charged. We always take home leftovers especially fried rice. Not this time. We had to keep asking the waitress for refills. When we asked for napkins for a party of 9 she brought 3. Not only are they cheap on their food also on the condiments. Birthday dinner was ruined by this place.
I ordered take out for the first time at this restaurant after eating there several times in the last couple years. Never had a problem till yesterday with the takeout.I received my order and it was wrongMy sushi was an extremely small portion that cost $7.95 and would’ve been 1/2 price if I would’ve dined in last night “which I totally do not agree with”.It should be the same if you dine in or take out.I ordered steak and shrimp hibachi and was told I could only choose a salad“When I dine in You get both”I had to pay extra! Because it was a Togo order....I got home and noticed there wasn’t any salad, so I called to speak with the managerShe could’ve cared lesstold me she had a customer in front of her she needed to deal with and hung up on meI’ve had better sushi from Publix and the customer service was absolutely terrible and I actually paid more for doing take outI had steak and shrimp hibachi fried rice and a tiny tempura shrimp roll and still cost $35No thank you! After spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars here I will never spend another dime in this placeI wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy
Have eaten here several times over the years, but tonight missed the mark. Went out for Veterans day to avoid the freebies crowds. The sushi didnt seem very fresh, our fried rice was crunchy, service was terrible (our waiter was annoyed with everything we asked and kept messing stuff up). The floors and tables were beyond sticky. It just felt gross. I wouldnt have wanted to eat there even if it still had the 50% off promotion. Dont think we will be returning here ever again.
They made my sons 18th birthday absolutely amazing. The staff was so attentive and handled our large group wonderfully. Our cups were never empty, plates stayed full and smiles stayed on our faces. Out of the four years and three different restaurants that weve gathered for his birthday, this was by far the absolute best. The food and service were top notch! We will definitely be coming back!!!! Thank you all!!!
We had the best hibachi meal ever tonight. Our chefs name was Sanada (excuse if misspelled). Everything was prepared exquisitely. Not over seasoned and done quickly. The fried rice was tender, flavorful and not over seasoned. I highly recommend you go here and, if hes available, request him.
The coke was very good.WORSE General Tso chicken EVER.Greasy chicken pieces, smothered in tomato sauce. We use to go here often and celebrate Birthdays. Not anymore, this evening cured us of eating there or most likely any Asian food. The last time we were here was iffy, thought maybe just a off night we filled the hibachi the last time.
The food was really good. The chef was great. The staff, however was rude and unprofessional. My group was seated in a straight line so we could not see each other, so we politely asked if we could be seated around a table so that we could talk with each other. The lady in charge of seating rudely informed us that we would either have to wait 30 extra minutes or go back to where we were seated. I understand the policy, but some professionalism would be nice. The food was delicious and the chef was amazing, but then the hostess, who we found out was the manager, began to talk badly about us right in front of us. She was talking to our waiter, looking and pointing at us, talking about how rude we were when we had been nothing but patient all night. A shame that our good experience was ruined by bad customer service.
We enjoy eating out. Last night we arrived in this superb restaurant which we didn’t know before. We enjoyed a delightful evening there with fine cooking and an efficient crew and an impressive chef. We added this fine restaurant in our phone list and we shall no doubt go again soon. We warmly recommend.
Food was good, chef had a few spins on the regular cooking tricks. But they wouldnt let our 11 party sit until everyone arrived though 9 of us were there and no other groups were waiting so we stood around while the table stayed empty the whole time... I dont know why they are still called Okinawa when everything is branded as Volcano now.
Been coming here for over a year and never had to sweat through a meal. 2 weeks in a row now the fans were off and the ac was barely running. If it wasn’t for the amazing food I’d never come here again after coming every single week for a year and a half.Side note. It’s 95* outside and feels like it’s nearly that inside. And when I asked for the fans to be turned on the female manager went off on me in front of other customers. Probably won’t be coming back anymore. Nobody that works here or the regulars can stand her and she has the worst attitude towards everybody that works here and customers. The couple we are eating hibachi with were concerned when she walked away because of the way she talked to me and treated the situation.
First time coming back since the new owners took over. We came for dollar sushi night which used to be great, but now with the new owners the sushi is unbelievably small. We couldnt even taste the fish because there was barely any in it. I also order some White tuna nigiri pieces and it was cut paper thin. It was almost room temperature and didnt taste good. Wish that I could say something positive about the food, but I cant. Its sad because I used to love coming here.
Just left the restaurant. Was dining for lunch. My food had a fairly curly hair in it. Although the server replaced my lunch, I was not taken care of as a guest. I work in a 5 star restaurant and you can bet if that if that happened in my restaurant the food would of been comped
Edit: after continued negative correspondence with management Ive lowered my review to one star. I will never be going back to this restaurant. There are many other local restaurant with better food and much better customer service.Ill give two stars because the food isnt bad and the waiters have always been good. My main complaint is that the food quality has gone down in recent years and that Ive had very poor customer service. Their policy is that to get any of their special prices you have to dine in. Usually when I get food at a restaurant I get it to go for me and mom. I called early this year and asked if I could get the 50 percent off hibachi deal if I ordered to go and explained that I needed to order takeout because my mother is disabled. They said they make no exceptions. This is the main reason I rarely ever get food from them. I dont feel like it is fair to be charged double because I get orders to go. Tonight my mom and I really wanted sushi and I knew they had a dollar sushi special on Tuesdays. My first annoyance was even though the price used to be a dollar for each roll and the sushi menu still says dollar sushi, on the side of the menu it says the price is now $1.50. I ordered a lot of sushi, then boxed it up and asked for my bill. The waitress was annoyed and told me this was a one time exception and I was not allowed to do it again. A woman who I assume was the manager actually glared at me as I got my bill. To put it mildly Im very disappointed in their customer service.
Today is my sons birthday and the only place he wanted to go for dinner was here. My wife ordered a sushi roll with many other rolls for the table. The super volcano roll came out and it literally looked like an elephant crapped on the plate. My wife ordered something different. Everyone elses food was great. The manager however walked to the table and rudely announced to never do that again, to never order something and send it back. It was very embarrassing, and the way she talked to my wife ruined the entire dinner experience. We will not be coming back !
Server didnt remove any dishes the whole lunch. We had soup, salad, appetizer dishes crowding the table the entire lunch. The cook didnt wait for us to come back from the restroom (my family of 6 were the only people at the table with 3 of us in the restroom) even though my husband asked him to wait. Then, he didnt both doing any of the cute things you would expect when paying for hibachi, like the onion train or eggs spins...nothing. It was a very mediocre meal with less that mediocre service. This was where I chose to take my children for my birthday meal. What a let down.
Every single time I have gone the food has been delicious! It is a little bit of a close knit environment with the tables and the grills but its a small location. The sushi is good quality, hibachi is delicious & the specials are wonderful and the service is extremely pleasant!
This place knows how to treat their guests. When I first started coming here, I was none too happy with them stating 50% off sushi without telling you it was dine in only. But once that was cleared up I was a return customer. Two years strong. This is the best sushi place in the city of canton, hands down.
Got sushi from here last week for a coworker and myself. After about 2 hours I had the worst stomach pain. I thought maybe I was just coming down with something until the coworker also said she was feeling sick. Will not be back.To respond back to the owner, considering it was all I had to eat that day at that point and the coworker who ate it too also felt sick, Id love to know what other theories you might have
I called and made reservations for 6:15 for my mothers birthday. 3 of the 6 of us were there at 6:10 waiting in line behind a long line of kids having a high school home coming party. I got up to the counter and told the lady the name and my reservation time. She asked if everyone was there, and I told her yes, they were parking the car. She said okay have a seat and we will seat you when they get in. Less than 2 minutes later, they walked in completing my party. We informed them that my party was complete. They then informed us that they didnt have any empty tables and we would have to wait for one to open up. After 25 minutes of waiting, we walked out. Why bother having the option of reserving your seats if you dont follow through with that reservation? That is an unprofessional way to handle busines, and that is a business I will not support.
We have been eating here for over eleven years and in the last couple of years the food quality has went down and the prices have went up. We went in this week and they have completely changed the recipe for the yum yum sauce as well as the teriyaki chicken and it is terrible. Out of all the Japanese Restraunts in town we like Okinawa the best, in a large part due to the delicious yum yum sauce and teriyaki chicken but after the other night we will not go back!!!!
My family (5 members) went to eat lunch. We were all seated and had already ordered and were eating salad and soup when a lady and kid came in, and they set them at the table with us. The lady ordered shrimp. My mother is allergic to shrimp. We asked to be moved to another table and were told no, and then, we asked could the ladys food be cooked last. They said no once again. We were informed at that time their policy was to cook the persons food with allergies in the back. It seems like punishment or discrimination to me that a person whos allergic to food is left out of the meal. Needless to say we got our check and left and will not be going back there. The Kani House in Woodstock accommodates people with allergies and doesnt make them have their food cooked in the back, and they ask you several times before you order if anyone has an allergy.
Husband and I went for a quick drive for sushi. Waitris had to come back 3 times get my husbands beer selection correct. Ordered shshami to share.. never got the salads that go with it and the crab was imitation. You should just leave that off the plate.. its tacky if your advertising sushi. I would try again another time because were easy going people. Hopefuly next time will be better.
Ive been to Okinawa Restaurant a couple times before and It was okay, decent service and quality. My last visit was very disappointing.! It took well over 45 minutes to sit me and a friend down understandably because they had been busy. My issue is that we had arrived tuesday night for dollar draft and sushi at 7:30. As I was waiting I had asked if we would get the dollar sushi knowing It ended at 8:30, she had said if we were sat down by then, we would get it. We finally got sat down at 8:15 or so, waiter took our drink orders, and I asked for a pen to write down which sushi I desired. He didnt come back within 10 minutes so I took it to him... Thats a no no in the food industry. He was rude knowing I wanted sushi and them closing the sushi bar soon. Another 15 minutes went by (keep in mind its about 8:40 by now) and he brought over the manager to explain to me the sushi bar was closed. Had the waiter told me that earlier, id partially understand. I was very irritated at this point, so I had told the manager just to forget about it. I dont ask for handouts nor often expect them but deemed it appropriate to get one after that nights service, so much for a discount as the meal was full price and not one discount. Also another thing that was an issue was that they overcrowded the hibachi bar, i was squeezed by people I didnt know. It was a miserable experience to say the least and have no intentions of going back!
If you are a visitor or a local...you must try this place. After visiting last night on a whim while staying in Canton on business I totally recommend this place. I have lived in New Orleans and consider myself well traveled, and, this is on par with some of my favorite sushi restaurants. The fish was fresh, the owner was personable, Ben....the Zen roll my personal favorite....will be back when I land the account I was here selling!
This is your typical Japanese restaurant, where they cook in front of you. I went there with my wife and kids, and was a little put off by how closely we were seated next to the other guests. The cook tried his best to put on a good show, mixing jokes with agility. He dropped his cooking utensils more than once and some of his tricks didnt quite go as planned, but overall, he tried hard and was in a joking mood most of the time. The other staff tried very hard to provide good service, even taking the time to take my familys picture while the cook performed. Overall, the food was good, and the atmosphere was nice. I had the steak and chicken, but wished I had the salmon after seeing the guy next to me eat his. If you are in Ellijay or Blueridge, do not miss this place, as it is probably one of the best places to eat in either town.
Called a few months ago for a take out order, and was hung up on THREE freaking times!!! Finally got an answer and I called out one of the rude managers. (He’s older with glasses and bald, you know him if you come here alot, can’t remember his name though). I told him that I had called three times and was wondering why he kept hanging up on me and then he HUNG UP AGAIN!!! The staff is very rude and the restaurant does not make you feel at home. Had a bad experience a few days ago with the staff being rude too and I just won’t go back there again!! Very rude.
Ive been eating at this place for almost 10 years. I dont know if the owner has changed recently or what, but the past couple times Ive been portions are like half what they used to be and service isnt so great. Not to mention the price has gone up probably 15%. Very sad...I used to love this place. I wont be back
The chef literally seemed to be taking his hostility out on the food. There was no show, no onion volcano, no egg tossing, just what appeared to be anger in how he attacked the food. The rice was flying onto our cloths, into our drinks, around the table. The wait staff left us without drink refills several times. And a complaint to the manager ended up wasted as he went into a I dont understand English mode. Ruined our birthday gathering.
This place is ridiculous. Sushi taste horrible if you say anything to management it’s NOT THEIR FAULT it’s the way it’s “suppose” to taste. Which we all know how crab should taste by now, plus for the price you pay you can go an extre half mile down by sideline grills get your money’s worth. They are horrible.
Sat us and made us wait FOREVER for table to fill up. Another group came in and I thought they would get started... nope. I asked how long the wait was before we were ever seated, they said 5 minutes... should have said however long it takes for the table to fill up. With a 2 year old this was very inconvenient. Thank you Okinawa.
The food was very good - my Grandaughter n I told them we were sharing chicken fried rice-when I got the bill I was charged a share fee which totalled 17 $ -that was terrible - that was more than the price of 1 meal!- totally floored me!!!!-not very happy about that-so dont tell them youre sharing a meal-youll end up paying for another meal that no one would eat!!!
The sushi was so terrible it was the worst sushi I ever ever had in the rice and chicken My Husband had it was look like a baby mix food was vegetable that they just picked up from other Plate that is the last time ever I would go meet My Husband over there it was the worst experience ever it was really disgusting and I never give my being like that and nobody when is bad I just walk away don’t come back again but this one is the worst

2022-05-01Normally we would sit at the grill to eat, but this week we sat at a table to eat. We ordered steak and chicken combo hibachi dinner like we usually do. The waiter asked how Id like my steak cooked, and I requested medium-rare. We got our plates in no time and the steak had the look, taste and texture as if it was microwaved. I dont know why he would ask how I wanted it if it was already cooked and just reheated. The chicken had the same quality and the fried rice was not good at all. I dont understand how you can charge the same price for food that is a small fraction of the quality received at the grill. I spent over $100 for 3 people to eat and I could barely stomach it. I will still give 5 stars since I like to eat here, but I am deeply disappointed after this experience. 😔

2022-04-20The manager is atrocious and has the attitude of a wet cat. My husband and myself took our 3 children to have dinner here and to our surprise our meal was over 200 dollars. We have never spent this much at this restaurants in our lives. When looking at the bill we were charged full price for the fried rice and many other add one. Also because the restaurant has went downhill since the management change, there were only two table in the restaurant at 6pm. The waiter decided to charge us gratuity on our order because he said we were a party of 5. Two adults and 3 kids (one child is just over 2 years old.) This was an unacceptable way for the restaurant to try to con money out of it customers on slow days. I will never set foot in this restaurant again because of its cheap antics. Also when the manager was confronted about the issue with our check, she told us to get out and not come back.

2022-02-16First we have been ordering from Okinawa in Canton, GA for over 10 years. Most of the time we eat inside but we have gotten to go orders plenty of times. We spent $103 for our meal. We didn’t get vegetables and didn’t get soup. When I called back to tell them, they said we said no vegetables. I said that I asked for double fried rice (basically asking for additional food that I was gonna pay for and that they charged me for) but we never said no vegetables. Then she told me that we don’t get soup for to-go orders. When I explained that I had received soup in the past, she told me I was wrong that they never give soup with to-go orders. So basically my family of 6 eating there for 10 plus years earns me a big fat “you are wrong and we are right”. I have really enjoyed there food and would have loved continuing to give them my money, but I guess I will give my business to someone else. 🤷🏻♂️I guess the customer (isn’t) always right. Very disappointed.

2022-04-15Food is usually good. Eat here almost every week. Latest visit ordered our food the exact same as always. The waiter got it wrong told him it was wrong then some lady (assuming) manger or owner came and scolded me and told me to tell them how I want my food next time when I order. I told her I was specific in my order placement she again scolded me and I got up and told my family it’s time to go. She proceeded to tell me never to come back and I am more than good with that

2022-06-15I have been going to Okinawa in Canton, Ga since I was 15. I have seen this place change owners over time and it gets better every time my friend and I go. I am now 30 and still go here and no longer live in canton. I travel from Smyrna to meet halfway for a great time.

2020-01-24My wife and I love this place. Weve been dining there about twice a month for over seven years and have never been disappointed. I learned to love sushi in 1979 when I live in Los Angeles – and there is a hell of a lot of good sushi in LA, so I know my sushi. And since then Ive had sushi from coast to coast, and I can tell you that Okinawa has great sushi at very reasonable prices. The service at Okinawa is friendly, warm and very attentive. We always sit at the sushi bar, but we keep threatening to sit at one of the Hibachi grill tables because we always see the customers there having so much fun.If you are there for sushi, youll meet Kevin who is the sushi chef. He is young and incredibly creative. Or if you are there on a night when Kevin is off and Andy is the chef, you will be equally impressed. There are great sushi suggestions on the menu, but if you really want an extraordinary experience, just tell Kevin what kind of fish you like and ask him to create something special for you. You will be thrilled – as we always are. See [below] for a few photos of some of Kevins creations for us.SPECIAL THINGS TO ASK FOR: Salmon bellies and Yellowtail bellies. The salmon is from Scotland and always wonderful. You should also try the Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno. Awesome! Were on our way there tonight and as always, we cant wait!

2022-01-08Our chef was amazing and the fried rice was great. The chicken was not good as it was drowned in sauce and tough. The overpriced drinks with no refills and a bored waiter in a mostly empty restaurant earned two stars.

2021-08-10Chicken Fried Rice was greasy and chicken tasted like it was old and just heated up in a microwave. Service also wasn’t that great, didn’t even refill my drink once. Wouldn’t recommend.
