Very good variety of reptile/aquarium supplies and usually have everything in stock. UPDATED. Unfortunately, they seem to have recently increased their prices. I understand that many businesses have found it necessary to increase prices due to the current circumstances that are entirely out of anyones control. However, petco seems to be increasing costs for unnecessary reasons. Obviously, they do this not out of genuine fear and very real possibility of losing everything. Unlike so many business owners that must live day to day not knowing what will happen from minute to minute... it just seems to me that petco is jacking up prices simply because they can. Not to mention the fact that the animals they carry seem more and more neglected and improperly maintained by employees who clearly no nothing about these animals, let alone how to care for them. The quality of the products they sell, specifically feeder insects, fish, etc has become borderline deplorable. Dead feeders stacked up that have been there for God knows how long. Juvenile beardies that are emaciated, clearly suffering from various ailments, a lot of eye infections, lack of proper lighting, diet, and habitats in general. Some are very obviously so ill that they can barely open their eyes. I just dont understand how a company I once trusted has fallen so far so fast and seem unbothered by any of it. Not even the literal abuse of the animals under their care. I am highly disappointed in this company and blatant disregard they exhibit is homely quite disgusting. So, please consider taking your business to a reputable shop with healthy conditions, and staff that are truly knowledgeable and actually know how to care for their pets and allow them to thrive. These are the ones that in my opinion, deserve and desperately need your business to continue providing us, the customers, with exceptional service as well as excellent husbandry and care for the animals under their protection.
The employees at Petco always make the experience great. The store is always neat, clean, and easy to navigate. I do wish they had a more extensive selection of freshwater fish as well as a deeper quantity which is why I gave four stars instead of five. Other than that they always have what I need with lots of smiles and friendly service. I recommend them over Petsmart and the Pet Supermarket.
We LOVE this store! Every single staff member has been super friendly and helpful. Lemon has visited the groomers and attended dog training classes. During her grooming visit, the ladies were very assuring and took great care of my pup. Ray has been an outstanding trainer and Lemon has learned a lot! Highly recommend using both the groomers and training services.
Just came in while my husband made his delivery. I ran into Brandon who clearly was busy, but took out his time to answer my question in a very friendly manner, and told me how to get the fish I liked at my own store. I have been to a lot of Petco stores in the southern region, and this location definitely has one of the nicest Aquarium Center areas I have seen. I saw so many animals that were new to me, and not offered at my local store. And it was like the focal point in the middle of the store. It was a very well kept, cool setup. Brandon also convinced me to finally get my husband a salt water tank. I really liked your store and Brandon was great!!!
I hardly ever write reviews but after my experience today I just have to! I took my Mini Goldendoodle in for grooming here after a bad experience with a local groomer, & Ralph did an amazing job! They were kind and compassionate towards Luna and did a great job. Secondly when i went to go pay the cashier informed me of their loyalty program, which is $19.00 a month but you get 30% off all grooming services along with other perks & rewards. I used to work in retail and hated the loyalty card system because sometimes our performance would be based off of, how many people we signed and nothing else (like work ethic, showing up on time, errors, etc.), so usually i sign up when a cashier ask just to help them out. Usually they arent costly but this one will even out as Luna gets groomed at least once a month. But the thing that impressed the most was the professionalism of the cashier, the sign up process does take a minute and she had already scanned my items but, as soon as there was a single person behind me in line she immediately called for another cashier to get them taken care of. Overall great experience and I would recommend anyone here. Thanks Petco!
I really dont like the idea of not getting replacement or refund on saltwater fish. I understand that many things could make the fish die when they come home, but that is why the do water test before selling you anything. Well bought a fish and it only lasted a couple days $25 wasted. All online fish store do offer returns and refund.
It’s clean. The staff are friendly. Some of them are even knowledgeable about the areas they are working. I usually only go in for fish and aquarium supplies. Unfortunately, none of the big box stores in Columbus have good selection for fish. But Petco will order them for you (albeit you pay a massive premium).Regardless, it’s a solid store if you can’t get your supplies online.
Ive been to Petco twice in the past couple of weeks and had such a great experience with those working in the fish dept! They are friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging for a first time fish tank owner. The prices for fish were a lot more economical than other well known pet stores in town and they had such a better collection to choose from! They also had more supplies and better brands than the other store. I will definitely go back again!
First of all, you had exactly what I needed for my fur baby who was a little under the weather. Second, It was so easy, ordered, paid online and got notification is less than a half an hour it was ready for pick up. Walked in and to the register and picked up my order. Quick and easy. Offered curbside, but I chose to walk in to pick up. Said fur baby was in the car and is super protective.
I made a grooming appointment a week in advance, but when I arrived they refused to trim my dogs nails, stating she was too busy. I can understand having to cancel the appointment but they didnt even bother to call me, I drove 25 minutes there to be told my appointment meant nothing. The services are okay but the customer service in the grooming area is awful.
I absolutely love shopping with Petco. I WILL be finding a new store to shop at because of a certain employee seems to be very dissmissive and has an attitude every single time I have a question about fish, my tank, or what else I may need to buy to go with my purchase. I dont know what I did to make him act this way. Ive tried shopping here several times and I believe that I will just be going over to the Opelika, AL store where the employees actually want to help and listen. Which really sucks because Caitlyn really knows her stuff but I will not shop somewhere that I am talked down to or looked down on.
We was very impressed about how the employee was very helpful and informative about the pet we got. We also love the atmosphere and all the employee was. We can tell they care about all the pets that were there. Thank you so much for having employees that care and love there job.
Use to like this place I go for crickets and reptiles but they chump me off on crickets every time asked for 100 I get maybe 50 and they charge 4x the price I go to lll reptiles or premium crickets now very sad to see a place that use to be so good and helpful go downhill
The shelving was very disorganized, and not all the employees were practicing covid-19 guidelines by not wearing a mask. I was unable to find the product I wanted, and it seemed short staff. It wasnt until I got to the register to express my concern when the cashier was able to provide me with my desired product.
The one star is for the cashier who is always at her post and ready to help you. She will even go out of her way to try to help you in the store when non of the other employees are anywhere to be found or just flat out ignored you. Thinking about starting to travel 45 minutes to the store in Alabama that has much better service. At this location, the cashier needs to be given a raise.
3 female bettas in a tank together, store employee stated it was fine (is not, minimum of 5 females in sorority) fins tethered, stated they come in that way. If thats the case, they should find a more ethical breeder. Very disappointed, will be reporting this to the proper authorities and encouraging other not to shop here anymore.
I went in to buy some dwarf hair grass for my new tank when the sales associate ( who tried to be extremely helpful ) talked me out of it and recommended a moss and claimed that it would carpet easily and be extremely easy to grow with my current setup. I took it home and decided to look up the species and found it that the moss is carnivorous and that my fertilizers would kill it. The guy was very kind but I will not be looking for Petco for advice any longer.
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Went in willing to spend money to make my 5 yr old happy after he lost his dear 1 day at our house old fair fish, but they wouldnt let me spend any money and said it needed to clean the tank throughly or else I would be digging another hole in the yard.
It was my first time shopping with my new puppy. I had never been here before. There wasnt anyone around to bounce questions off of and when I did find someone, although he was somewhat helpful, it was apparent I had bothered him from whatever he was doing and couldnt wait to get away from me lol. He was good about informing me of the Petco Rewards program and I even bought some items that were buy one get half off that I realized when I got home I didnt receive the discount which was disappointing but I havent given up on the store yet I am looking forward to attending some of the training classes and play time and I am also looking forward to meeting with their vet and getting more information about my dog.
Customer service is outstanding here! Being an owner of two Jack Russells, petco salon has greeted them with such respect and love that I became jealous 🤦♀️😊 they will take in and care for your pets as if they were their own (OMG! and did miracles with their breath)!
Chi Chi (Tiggers groomer) was outstanding! This was the first time Id taken him to a groomer and was COMPLETELY satisfied. I showed her pictures of what I wanted and she did it. The results were PERFECT. Chi Chi made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process. Previously, Id observed her while she groomed another dog. I noticed how she spoke so calmly and soothingly to her..as if, she was talking to a little girl. That impressed me to the nth degree. So, I asked her if she could groom Tigger. We agreed on the best time and date. We already have the next appointment date set. Whenever Tigger needs grooming, I will always request Chi Chi and Petco.
I love coming here. I always either go to the store or I call to ask questions about my freshwater tank, or for dog training recommendations, and they are always so helpful! Ben and Caitlin always have an answer to my questions about my tank, and Ray is an excellent dog trainer. He always makes sure that my pup is paying attention, and actually learns.
I ordered a cage for my hamsters and got free shipping. My hamster loves the cage, but it arrived broken across the top. Cracked in half. I tried calling customer support to get a refund or another one sent to me, but I was on the phone for about an hour and no one answered. It was 56:24 minutes to be exact. I have two hamsters and theyve been fighting so I needed to separate them, this cage will not hold up long and I cant put them back together.
I have a GSD puppy and we ended up doing his puppy training here because they have so many options for time. Ray is fantastic with the dogs and goes above and beyond to help you with your dog. Anna in the groomers is fantastic and remembers us when we just stop by to work on socializing the puppy. Deborah, who works the registers, is always willing to take a moment to say hi and help us if we need. I absolutely love the feeling of a small town store, but with big store selection.
Do not buy anything from this place. The manager Ben is very rude and obnoxious. I was going to buy a bird but his rudeness towards me lost him a sale for his company. Plus they injured a bird because they have no idea how to take care of these birds. He was extremely rude to me and I will never go to that store again.
Its a good Petco to go to (for anything but grooming). The staff is MOSTLY friendly and helpful. I would have rated it 5 stars, but their grooming side lost them two stars, (learn how to speak to customers!). We always took our fur babies to Petco to be groomed until, one day, we were running a little late and showed up about 15 minutes late. When we arrived to check them in, the girl working was staring daggers at us. We proceeded to apologize about arriving tardy when she cuts us off to tell us, quite rudely, that she hopes shell finish on time since we were 15 minutes late. She was halfway through grooming another large dog when we arrived, so I really dont see why the 15 minute delay on our part was such a thing, the rude person :-) would not have been working on our dogs either way during that time. Im not one to put up with rudeness, so I cut her off mid-sentece and advised that we will not be needing them after all. We turned around to leave and I advised this person :-) that she should really learn that its not okay to be rude to customers. She literally yelled back that she was not rude. So I yelled back that she was. She yelled back, Im sorry you feel that way sir. Yes, so sorry, Im sure. Needless to say, because of this one person :-) we started taking our dogs to Petsmart for grooming. A little more expensive, but they do a much better job than Petco and theyre not rude (always a plus in my book).
There are things that you can get here that you cant get at PetSmart and vice versa. So I dont shop here exclusively nor do I shop there exclusively. Ive had mostly positive experiences with the staff here and everyone is usually really helpful. My family and I enjoy coming here on the weekends to see adoptable pets from different organizations. The store is laid out nicely and Im always able to find everything easily. I come here a lot for fish supplies and sometimes PetSmart has a better deal so my only complaint is that I cant do all my shopping here.
IT TAKES FOREVER TO GET ANY HELP!!!! I not only one time but, numerous times have had to go seek out an employee for help. Especially with the fish section, then after seeking someone out they have to call someone 10 minutes later you can finally get mediocre help... The 2 stars are for the clean tanks & healthy (ish) fish. My review is not only for the fish section, but in regards to the entire store.
After shopping Yesterday, I refuse to go back. an team member; came up to me while i was looking at the new hatchlings, when i mentioned it wasnt good idea to have too many together, he went off saying it would be cool if they fought each other to the death, another memeber came over and didnt even repmaind him; just said it his last day Like no.... that type of pyschotic thinking shouldnt be allowed to work in a store where people bring their animals. He didnt even stop going on about it even after i asked him to stop.
Very unsatisfied. New to the area, wanted to take our puppy to the puppy play time that was listed from 1030-1130 for Sunday on the website. We get here, there is virtually no staff to find in the store. Once one finally comes from the back to the register, she doesnt even know where the puppy play time is conducted and tells me that the woman who does conduct it is sick. Waste of time.
The girl with super nice they were caring to make sure that the bird I got was of going to have the best house that it could possibly have and that it was going to a loving family they help me choose the best food and taught me things I didnt know about the bird and told me stuff about other birds and even helped my daughter name her bird
Took my gsd here for grooming and when I went to go pick him up it didnt even look like she touched him. I paid for the shedless bath treatment and didnt even look like he was brushed. He smelled good but other than that...horrible experience. Will be using petco in opelika for now on. Never had a bad experience with them.
I first bought fish here on 4/10/18 and they had a large and beautiful selection of fish. But the past few months till this day, their tanks and fish look terrible. Their Platy fish are always either dead/sick, their saltwater fish tanks are dirty and their saltwater fish always have Ick, and their Fancy Guppy fish are just in the poorest conditions. Most of them have fin rot to the point where they have no fins. The staff are careless and uninformed about anything you ask them. Its simple, if you cant take adequate care of your fish, dont sell them.
Terrible cant begin to describe my experience visiting this store. Twice now I have been refused to purchase a animal in front of my four year old son. The store manager masked the incompetence of his employees as being passionate about animals. There is a difference between being passionate about animals and being judgmental, rude, condescending and discriminatory.I worked for Petco through high school and college. I grew up on two acres in Colorado Springs owning German shepherds, cats, barn cats, turkeys, ducks, geese, ferret, sugar gliders, hamsters, amphibians, reptiles, birds and salt water/freshwater/brackish aquariums. I volunteered for a reptile rescue and assisted other rescue organizations with time, money and resources. Please tell me how I am not a responsible pet owner?
I took my 3 dogs into the grooming salon in Petco today to have them groomed. We just moved here from out of state so this was my first time trying them out. First off when you come to pick your pets up they give you a ticket to take to the counter inside petco to pay. I find this strange because you dont even get to see your pets or what you are paying for beforehand. I started looking at the ticket and see an extra $15 charge for each dog. The $15 charge was for a comb out and scissor trim!!! Shouldnt that be included in a full grooming price which I was also being charged for?!?! I thought maybe it was a mistake so I asked the guy who was checking me out. He said they charged everyone for that service. I couldnt even believe it! Why not just include it in the full groom price? It seems like its just a way to upcharge your customers. I thought to myself well there goes your tips! When I got back to the groomers I presented them with my receipt and they brought my dogs out. I was immediately disappointed when I saw one of my dogs which I asked to have a bichon frise hair cut. I was even charged extra for that haircut! She looks nothing like a bichon Frise or even a poodle which is what she is mixed with. She looked terrible! What little hair was left on top of her head was all uneven. The lady then informed me that she had cut one of her legs. I understand that can happen sometimes but I was just upset with everything so I leashed them up and left. After getting them home I was inspecting the $172.00 job I just paid for only to be more disappointed. They didnt smell like a fresh bath. I assume they put some kind of perfume on to make them smell better but they dont feel or smell clean. I discovered they missed the hair in the arm pits of two of my dogs. Long hairs were sticking out from their paws. Their legs were uneven and their toenails were jagged. They didnt even clean their ears. I called the manager and told her I was very unhappy. She said if I came back she would refund the $15 charges. She was extremely nice and did get some of my money back, but I still paid a little over $120 dollars for a mediocre job at best. I definitely will not have my dogs groomed there again!
As of September 9th, 2018, I will not be shopping at this Petco or any Petco ever again. That day marks the day that the last employee that actually CARES FOR THE ANIMALS AND THEIR WELL BEINGS will be leaving. This store will be taken over by a store manager that does stuff the Petco way which involves not giving a chinchilla a place to hide so it can stay awake and stress itself out, strip reptiles that like a hiding area or coverage to feel more secure and safe, and selling any animal to anyone to make a buck. I got a chameleon from another Petco where they were doing it the Petco way, and he died. He was so malnourished, stressed, and unhappy from being in that place that my experience and my vets could not save him. COULD NOT. Ive shopped at this store for over 5+ years; before the soon to be store manager worked at Petco. I refuse to see animals stress themselves to death or not be taken care of the way they should be all because the customers need to see them and we like money. The store lost essential employees, and you cant replace experience. I feel terrible for the animals that will surely die because of how they will soon be treated. Goodbye, this Petco and every Petco.
I have a husky. So when summer hits I like to go get her groomed to help with her coat. I went to the grooming and when I went to pick up her she looked worse than she did when I picked her up. She was still soaking wet, they didnt trim her nails, and she still had hair falling out. I was so disappointed.
I was purchasing a fish tank pump two associates were standing by me talking. The price on the shelf said 48.00 dollars I had another item in hand and preceded to the cash register. I waited in line over 25 minutes. The lady in front of me was upset she had only one item in her hand. The lady at the register had her already paid for items in her buggy and they were still talking about coupons. The lady in front of me the machine was processing her credit card very slowly. I finally get to the register and of course the pump rang up higher than the price on the shelf and the elderly lady running the register told me she will have to leave the register to go search for the price and also go find a price for the other item I had. I said forget it I will go somewhere else.
The snakes and ferrets were in tiny cages. We saw 5 ball pythons in the same tank that should probably only have one snake in it. There was also about 7 ferrets in one small pen with only one tiny plastic house for the ferrets to lay under, but one ferret turned it upside down and was chewy on the corner. The plastic may be harmful to the ferret, and we were going to tell someone but couldnt find any employees. The snakes, ferrets and other animals like the chameleons, the baby beared dragons, and many other need bigger tank and pens, the animals looked unhappy and it was very sad for me, an animal lover, to see. Especially in a store called Petco that claims to want to help animals.
Its getting worse with customer service. The managers will look at you and then turn the other way. We usually purchase salt water fish here but not as of late. Employees also look at you, never ask if you need help or any type of assistance... quickly they will walk right on by. Such a shame.
I am so tired of dealing with Petco! Ive been bringing Max here for grooming of and on for 6 years and they never have the same people/groomers. They overcharge for every little thing. Today my appointment was canceled when I arrived because they couldnt get my vet on the phone to verify rabies vaccination, nor would they use the information on his rabies tag! The dog and Bird food has also had insects inside!
Im reviewing them as far as fish go. Good luck finding any help with the tropical and salt water fish. Should be self serve. Its a shame these big box stores like Petco and Petsmart put the smaller places like Fentons and Petz of Columbus out of business. They knew what they were doing and were worth the extra cost.
I love pets and this place is all about them. So many diffrent toys here and a few diffrent little animals that you can get such as turtles and ferrits and hamsters ect. They also have a groomers. I peraonally havent used them but I seen some dogs come out and they just look fantastic. Also if you are around on saterday or sunday you should come see the pets that you can adopt. Bring the love.
COMPLETELY outraged. Rudest staff I have ever experienced. Me and my fiancé were interested in adopting a cat, it had an awesome personality, as soon as we walked up it stuck its paw out of the cage to play. OBVIOUSLY we are going to play back with the little guy, as soon as we started playing with him the two staff members yelled at us from across the store to not stick our fingers in the cage, then simply walked away. We WERE interested in adopting him, did they ask? Hell no. Did they ask if we wanted to hold him? No. Never shopping there ever again. AND not to mention, the saltwater tanks always have ick. They have had ich for over a year now, and majority of the reptiles have mites.
Wouldnt sell a chinchilla because I bought a chinchilla cage for chinchillas that they sell at their store because the chinchilla would chew threw it. IF YOU WANT TO BUY A CHIN THEN YOU HAVE TO BUY A $250 CAGE FROM THEM OR THEY WONT SELL and why sell a chinchilla cage if you wont let us buy a chinchilla because we bought that cage
Omg this place is horrible , please people just trust me !! Shop on Amazon or chewy !If you must go to retail store try walmart or if its a must to a pet shop then pet smart!!Please take my word your going to get treated better at pet smart and they match price and you just dont want to know the deep dark secrets of this place !!

2022-05-12I had an issue and I was very upset but one of the employees (not sure about her name) was very helpful and understanding. She explained the cause and came up with a solution for it! I am super grateful for that employee. I will continue to go to Petco even if the issue wasn’t resolved I would’ve kept going! This store is overall amazing.

2022-02-24Very helpful staff. I was there to buy a play pin for my puppies, and the associate gave me an online price match which saved me over $25. She was also very knowledgeable on all of the products we had questions about, from recommending the best puppy foods to the most appropriate chew toys.

2022-02-12Associate went above and beyond. Super knowledgeable and friendly. Staff at competition are usually unenthused about shoppers and hard to find when you have a question. This guy wasnt overbearing, but he was very generous with his time. This is going to be my new store for pet food.

2022-02-21Everyone that works here is really nice and can give you lots of information about different animals. Ive come here multiple times for different animals and theyre always so helpful. When I come for fish, the woman who usually works in the department with fish is so patient and very helpful!

2022-04-27My goodness the service! Absolutely phenomenal. Past few days been buying up a terrarium and necessities for a new leopard gecko for my 5yr old. Helped me buy only what was needed, up until it was time to bring my daughter. Bri and Karin (not sure spelling) were so so so sweet to my daughter when it was time. patient as can be while I asked a bunch of questions too! Education is a big part of the sales process, and these two NAILED it

2022-05-14Only getting one because I can’t go lower. I have taken my dogs here to be groomed for over 5 years. Not one issue until today. I was told that one of my dogs was no longer welcome because they could not keep her safe. So I asked why. They stated while they left her alone in a tub she proceeded to chew on a hose. What does that have to do with keeping her safe? I will not be back and I question any leadership that believes this is ok behavior from an employee.

2022-05-15Most of the people here I really like, but I was sold a saltwater marine fish that had Ich, I returned the fish alive and well to the store but management automatically said the only option was to surrender the pet, had to call Petcos number to get a refund, awesome customer service over the phone too! But I wouldn’t buy any more fish from the location knowing there is Ich floating around in their tanks.

2019-10-21I have been visiting Petco to have my golden doodle groomed about every 2 to 3 months since she was 12 weeks old. The groomers are amazing here and I’ve never had a complaint. Daisy always comes home happy with her new hairstyle, ribbons or bows and new treat she picks at every visit. Thank you guys so much for making this a stress free event for both of us!! 😁
