My wife and I just completed a three day trip to Pointes West Army Resort this week and all I can say is the lake part of the resort is GREAT. The other side of the coin is that the staff is understaffed and underbudgeted. The grounds and facilities are I in disrepair, cottages need repair and more staff for keeping them clean. My hat is off to those trying too keep it going. If it was not for the boating facilities they could not make it. I am retired military and the rates were great, we did get a refund which was not expected.π
We had requested and reserved a pull through when we arrived on site they had put us into a smaller back in area. Which was infested with black antsWe ended up having to buy insecticide in order to kill the ants that were getting into our RV Plus poisoning ants outside the gravel area in order to keep them out of it RV. We talked to one of the park personnel on the day shift about it and he said that they couldnt do anything about it and was pretty condescending about it.. when we arrived on site there was no mention of there being any problems with ants the personnel that worked there and you just to be a problem but did not mention it it would have been nice to have some sort of warning. The maintenance crews did a excellent job keeping the trash cans dumped and the bath houses, latrines clean. I would recommend if you use this place to carry you plenty of ant spray and also make them confirm that you have either a pull through or back in campsite.
I loved this place. Scenery is fantastic, I gave 3 stars only because I see some room for improvement. My Mom and I rented kayaks, it was a difficult endeavor. The boats were left laying on the shore overnight, and were very wet inside. The beach was good old Georgia red clay. So it was slick, and hard to navigate. It must have been a sight to see 2 woman wrestling and slipping and sinking in the mud!! I bet we scared all the fish out of the lake. A good layer of sand and gravel on the beach would make it do much nicer for everyone. Also having staff put the boats on the racks at the end of the day would y appreciated. The bath rooms were clean and well maintained. Over all I look forward to visiting again, and hope that my suggestions are implemented.
This is a great place to rest, fish, relax... And it would have gotten 5 stars except for the cleanliness of our cabin, outside receptive didnt work at all, relevant for a charged fishing boat, the outside flood light didnt work and kitchen amenities were sparse. The decor was very nice, rustic, beds were clean and very comfortable. The outside deck and furniture was great however, not very clean, again. We will go again but next time, it will be inspected upon check-in.
Whats not to like. Camping everywhere on lake front. From full RV hookups to tent campsites. Lots of amenities. All paid for by current and former service members. Funds come from revenue of the post exchange system & user fees. As a class we have found all campgrounds on or near military installations and those run by the Army Corps of Engineers as excellent.
Great play ground for the kids; very big with lot of options! Also, its surrounded by a fence which is awesome with the lake so near! Takes the worry away with having little ones! The beaches are very nice and had two life guards! Parking could be better by the pavilions you can rent but its not too bad parking in the grass.
Great place to camp (we camp with a travel trailer, I cant say how good it is or isnt to tent camp). Bathhouse is relatively clean, its reasonably priced, and being right on the lake, no matter where you camp, is pretty amazing. Great playground and prices on canoe rentals as well!
Wonderful place to primitive camp, RV camp, or just visit for a day trip.Their beach is beautiful, and usually pretty empty. The lifeguards (which I was one of at one point) are always vigilant. The cottage/RV/primitive camping is really affordable and staff is very attentive..Meant for military/veterans but is worth the drive if you want a quality camping experience with gorgeous views, right on the water. They rent out canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats which can make for a fun day trip. Also the beach has many pavilions for rent and many campgrounds, as well as parks for younger kids and group options for parties. They also have a beautiful venue right on the water which is perfect for weddings and receptions. As far as I know, the beach is open-season for military and non-military alike. Would highly recommend if you live in the Augusta area!
Was an awesome get away. There was more shore line to fish than you could ever fish in one day. The marina was very big and gated. Tons of cabins and cottages to rent as well as three different types of camp sites to choose from. There is a small amenities/food and beverage store on site as well as 2 bathhouses that we saw. The two boat ramps were very large, we would have had no issue launching our old 32 foot cabin cruiser. Lol
Great place to get away from the hustle and get in touch with nature. Camp sites are clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are very c!ean. As the Soldiers come through and police the area, they stack firewood from fallen trees limbs at campsites....a nice added feature. The lake is beautiful with several species, (crappie, bass, striper, etc.). Going to make this place an annual trip
Nice campground, full hookups, nice lake. Very low fees for military. Great cabins on the lake also. Plenty of activities, playgrounds, paddleboard, canoe and kayak rentals. Small laundromat (2 washers,2 dryers) plenty of room to walk/run. Bathrooms and/or portajohns everywhere.
Clean and safe. I only have had one unfortunate experience. Last Saturday while backing in my trailer a joker in a rental pontoon decided he would dock in front of my boat while I was backed in. I had to go around him and barely got the boat trailered. MWR rep just stood there, did nothing. What happened to the Army values?
I couldnt even take my luggage inside, afraid of taking bugs home, I had to go out and buy stuff to exterminate the room, I had to ask for it to be vacuumed, look like bugs and dust had been there since 1980, but to top it off the mattresses on the beds are discussing, looked like someone had surgery on the bed, lost lots of blood and then they cover with a plastic cover and rent out.The one star is for the outside, nice weather.
There are some good sites, however with the availability of better state parks in the area it is not my go-to place. Although it is cheaper. The bathrooms and shower houses are not kept as clean and the sites are not kept up as well as they are at mistletoe or elijah clarke. All I can speak for however, are the campsites as I have not used any of the cabins or hotel rooms.
We really enjoy camping or going here even if its just for the day. Most of the time we are camping for days or weeks at the time. My only big suggestion is I wish they would have more for the kids during spring break or in the summer every so often like twice a year they have movie night which is nice and fun but maybe have that more often and maybe some kind of craft or something every so often like some of the other parks have different things throughout the year set up for mainly the children but it is a lot of fun and keeps the kids from just getting so bored so quickly or so often. They do have an amazing play ground there fairly new as well and I mean it is top of the line play ground too. But maybe have a pool put in like a few of the other parks around there have done. That would make this park probably the ultimate best park if they did that. Just a suggestion. Something to consider or think about in the future
Oh points west military resort.... I waited until the end of my time here at Fort Gordon to make this review. This resort made the PCS to Fort Gordon a paradise... It was because of this resort I bought a boat for the lake and went out on it every weekend with my wife and dog.. Points West was the outlet to the lake that I needed. Dropping anchor out there.. Drinking, listening to music, Fishing, swimming and camping out the night... We did that so many times.. The water on the lake is so fresh and warm during the summer. I made sure to take all of my family from out of town to points west.. That way they could get a good grasp of what its like to have such a haven near by. The prices to camp out there are extremely reasonable. (7 dollars a night if you have all ur equipment.) The site comes with breathtaking views, shoreline access, a fire pit and picnic tables. During the late hours it was like our own private area. We had music going as we huddled around the fire and spoke of funny stories. They let us bring our grill so we cooked ourselves an amazing dinner. Points West.. You are the reason I will miss Fort Gordon the most... I would be happy here because of this place. Im going to miss you so much. renting your kayaks for 5 dollars an hour was awesome. your boat ramps were always SO well taken care of. Thank you Points West. For being amazing. I have a short amount of time left at this location before the next PCS but I will still find a way to get out there at least a couple more times.
Since the conference center has turned into a wedding hall it has become difficult to rent a cabin, even during the middle of the week in the Fall. As those renting the Wedding Hall have priority regarding renting the cabins. I give you one star. as it wont let me give you a zero . Thanks
Enjoy points west, how ever when i rented a spot the trash can was full and i askone of i guess he worked for you,if they could empty the trash can as it was full from the day before, the grass hadent been cut. but all in all we still enjoyd our stay.thank you jessie mcafee.

2022-06-14Ive been coming here since I was 7, 8 years old. Im now 62. This rest/resort area for the military has ALWAYS been excellent in every way possible, in my opinion. It has changed, but the changes (with the exception of the loss of Pine Camp) have all been good. I really do appreciate that it is for military, veterans, our dependants & our ilk - its always like being around family, and at home if youre a military person. The Marina is, I hear, excellent, and the fishing as good as it gets around much of the lake. Playgrounds are VERY nice & very modern in some of the areas. While the Beach area *used* to be all sand with a dock way off in the water, it is still nice, though the area underwater is silty clay rock. You might want to wear some shoes for wading, especially if youre a tenderfoot. (I am.) I am also a fan of the beach area, soooo . . .You can find a nice set of pavilions there, plus a somewhat limited concession, plus gobs of picnic tables. A great place to relax, celebrate, hold a quiet party (be respectful of other guests.) There USED to be changing rooms, but they appear to be gone; however, there are gender assigned bathrooms. PLENTY of trash cans, so hey! - use em. Its a nice place to be.Picnic areas and camping grounds abound, and they are all well serviced & taken care of. There is a large Conference Center which can also be rented for parties, official events, and WEDDINGS. :-D I know THAT because my daughter got married there! :-) It is very pretty with nicely groomed grounds, and very well taken care of.There are a lot more amenities, activities, rentals, etc. that we, the military personnel (and their dependants!) can use - a nice place to get AWAY from the pressures of military life, spousal deployment (especially if youve got kids! Like my mother did, LOL!) - or away from post for a break from military life around folks whove lived the life you have, if youve been in, or around, the military. A very relaxing & restful place - or one for excitement if youre into boating, fishing, camping & all that.

2021-12-21Military only camp ground. Full hook up. Outstanding awesome camp ground. Open all year long. Office 7 days a week. 1000 hrs to 1755 hrs. Park Hosts as well as Security on grounds. Campers complain about ants and bugs. You have to remember that you are in there home, the woods. Trees are everywhere and that is what makes this place so awesome. Bring π spray with you. Simple solution π π π π. No matter where you go camping in any wooded campground, you will have ants.

2021-11-14Pointes West was by far a GEM to find. It was quiet and peaceful and the sites were great. The water pressure was outstanding, the power and sewer in campsite 3 was great! Nice place to hike, run or go for bike rides. Although we did not fish, the water was right there and I am sure that would have added to the great time we had. The only downside that we could find, was no shower buildings close by, no cable TV and we could not stay longer. Other than that, we HIGHLY recommend this hidden gem of a campsite at a great nightly rate.

2021-09-13Visited Pointes West Conference Center. Have booked them for a wedding and reception. Staff very helpful and friendly. Event center space is lovely, spacious and fully equipped for the wedding. I knocked one star off because the exterior of the building seemed a bit neglected. The flowerbeds were overgrown with grass, the hedges needed trimmed and the siding desperately needed power washed. The wedding is not for 8 months yet. Will be requesting a good spring cleaning before our event.

2022-01-17We spent 5 nights at the 2R campsite and loved our entire stay. We didnt use the bathhouse but there was one there to use. Our whole experience was very positive from making our reservation to check in and check out. Staff was courteous and professional. We did not use any amenities but plan to return and do just that in the near future.

2022-03-29We stopped at Pointes West for 2 nights. We were headed from the Panhandle in Fl to NC. What a great surprise! Absolutely wonderful place to get away from the city and enjoy nature. Beautifully kept resort. Nice place to bicycle, walk, kyak, fish and rent a boat. Only 29 miles from Agusta!

2019-05-29We celebrated my nieces graduation here, it was beautiful, we used one of the pavilions for her party, had camper sites and and tents. The motel has ADA accessible rooms. The staff were all very polite and courteous. I will happily visit again.

2022-01-28The place itself is amazing! Cabins are clean and great place for the children to play and ride bikes. Customer serviceβ¦ not so much. Donβt call and try to book a cabin unless you want your head bit off.
