We had a family lunch after graduation, on a Saturday at 1230, with a reservation. We were a party of 12. Our waitress was very attentive, but we had to wait 1.25 hrs for our food. I asked our waitress multiple times for an update on our food. When it finally arrived, every dish was cold, and the quality was sub par.
Me & my family waited half an hour to get a table Saturday afternoon & then another hour to get our food once our waitress took our order. When our food did finally come we were missing silverware, sauces, 1 side, bread/butter & still didnt have drink refills we had asked for several times. There were tables around us that sat down after us, ordered, ate & left before we even got our food! Im hoping that was just a rare glitch they had, because we love their food, but we were about to have a rare glitch with our patience!
Great place, service and food !!! We had a reservation for 4 of us,he sat us as soon as we got there and we started with great drinks we had Top shelf Margarita,Key Lime Martini,House Chardonnay and Pina Colada and all were great !!! Our waitress Elleree was great ,very nice and took good care of us!!! We had She Crab soup,Crab Cake,Prime Rib,Scallops and Jerk Chicken, house salad and all were great!!! We will definitely go back when we visit again!!!
This place had high reviews on Goggle so I had to check it out. The atmosphere was very relax. I was able to sit outside on the back patio, although I didnt have a reservation. I could tell by conversations I was hearing that the restaurant had frequent regulars, which is a very good thing. The waiter I had was very tentative. I ordered the blackend Mahi Mahi and this is the only reason why I am giving the restaurant a four instead of a five. The Mahi Mahi was a little dry, but the red potatoes were very flavorful. The house salad was really good too. I also ordered an Island Rum Punch and the bartender did an excellent job with that as well. Another nice touch was the manager came out and talked to me about my experience and appreciated my business. If I am in the area again, I will definitely be back to try the other dishes.
While Raes is very popular with the locals (especially in this neighborhood due to its hidden away nature and best kept secret reputation), I feel like the quality of the food is frankly not that great. We came right when they opened, and while our servers were attentive, the quality of what I got was not good. We ordered the jerk chicken wings as an appetizer, and they were fried ok but they did not taste like jerk at all. There was no spice to them. My wife ordered some kind of sweet glazed fish, which she seemed to enjoy, but I found very overly sweet. It was also apparently cooked in bourbon which was perceptible in the taste. Unfortunately my meal was the worst, it was some kind of stew (which is supposed to be an approximation of a low country boil), but it was largely flavorless and bland. The only flavorful part was the sausage, everything else tasted like it had been boiled in water without salt. The salads were decent and the rolls were warmed before being served, but overall the meal was super underwhelming and I would have a hard time being convinced to come back.
Not entirely sure whats happened to Raes, used to be an Augusta staple but those days have long go if our recent experience is anything to go by. Food was horrendous and over priced, fish no longer seems fresh, tastes frozen. Ordered a grilled cheese for my daughter and it was literally a slice of Kraft melted on to a cheap burger bun. Very disappointed and I used to be such a fan and not just of the Key Lime pie martinis.
A former local brought me to this restaurant. Known for its jerk chicken, Rae’s definitely delivers in flavor! The prime rib is perfection as are their jerk chicken wings. We dined on a Friday evening and were sat quickly. The Service staff never missed a beat. Never went thirsty, all requests were handled timely. I was more than impressed. My fiancé said the service was phenomenal, the prime rib was superb, one of the best he’s ever had. We will be going back next time we are in town!
Great food, great service and an amazing atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly, professional and the cooks are amazing. Ive eaten here several times and never been disappointed. I dont really have a favorite I enjoy mixing it up each time I eat here. But the jerk baby back ribs are fantastic. I really enjoy eating here and think you would too. Trust your GPS because it looks like youre going to someones home in a neighborhood.
Whenever I visit a new city I try to find that local gem... Raes Coastal Café definitely hit the nail on the head. Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, i definitely thought I was lost.. but once I arrived, had my seat at the bar and began to look at the menu I knew I was right at home.I ordered the shrimp paté as a started and the seasoning of the paté along with the mango chutney that came with it was so amazing. For my entree I ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich and it was love at first bite.. and for dessert was homemade key lime pie which probably taste better than the pie I had down in Key West which is saying a lot! If youre a martini drinker you cant go wrong with the Key Lime Martini.I definitely enjoyed this tucked away gem and will definitely be back when Im back in town.
Food is delicious! The puff pastry was like tasty chicken pot pie but flakier and in a pie. Their salad is absolutely delicious, and I eat salad about once a year so you know its got to be good to get someone like me to eat it all up. Driving in the dark to this place was a little weird and I was concerned I took a wrong turn about 75% of the drive but it turned out well worth it! Definitely would recommend!
A great hidden little gem in the Summerville area of Augusta. The waiter had great humor (he was cracking himself up) very knowledgeable (knew the menu extremely well). Me and my son both ordered the jerk chicken that comes with black beans, rice and their signature salad (lettuce was soggy). The salad was shot and sadly even telling the waiter (maybe he thought it was a joke) he just seemed to ignore it.. I didnt let it ruin the meal with my son and really it wasnt a deal breaker simply because I was happy to be with my son visiting from college.. But it did cost Raes a star for attention to detail and customer service. Maybe next time?
My wife and I stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch on a friends recommendation. Its tucked back in a residential area and isnt the easiest to find, but worth the effort. My wife had the best choice for her meal, the crab cake. It is by far the best that weve had in the area. Very flavorful. I got a chicken puff pastry which was pretty much a chicken pot pie turnover or pocket. We werent very impressed with it. It wasnt bad, but didnt have a lot of flavor either. We will definitely be going back to check out the dinner menu which is more robust.
Waitress extremely nice. Onion Mum very crisp and good.. Even though wings were ordered well done, some had uncooked chicken near bone. My Mahi Mahi not up to par, husband cheese burger looked like a frozen patty. All rice and bean sides served cold. Out of 2 of 4 desserts offered. Saturday before Christmas should have been crowded, almost empty at 1. Used to be much better and a true destination.
Wow, this place is not as good as it use to be. Two weeks ago we went for dinner. We sat outside, which is a nice area to eat, its covered in case of rain. The chicken wings were dry and did not taste freshly made. The salad did not taste fresh, either. Though the chefs special scallops were delicious at that visit! Last Friday we went back. We waited AN HOUR and 15 min for our food after ordering! I had the chicken cooked in puff pastry which was VERY GOOD. They had run out of a few things we wanted, so could not order them. I have never waited that long for food at ANY restaurant before. The wait staff was attentive, but I guess they must have had only one person cooking that night since we waited so long for our food, liked to have starved.
The place was very cozy if you are wanting to date night away from big crowded restaurants. The food was wonderful. This was my first time dinning here but I enjoyed everything from staff to the atmosphere. However, you will definitely need your GPS app to locate the restaurant. Overall, everything was GOOD & I will revisit again.
Very nice cute quaint place. Enjoyed lunch tucked away in the nice neighborhood of the racquet club. Ive never been here but my brother took me to lunch here. Very nice getaway from the normal hustle and bustle of the corporate places in busier parts of town. We will be going back soon!
Excellent service on a busy night! Ken was so knowledgeable about the foods on their menu! That she-crab soup was amazing! Hidden gym that we just discovered and will be returning. Finding its precise location is the trick! You just may even get walked up upon by their feathered security team!!Love it!!
We came here because I wanted to go to a restaurant with nice outside seating area and this spot was perfect. The food was also delicious - i had coconut shrimp and my spouse trio, both was served with really good salad. Staff was attentive, maybe even a little to much, since we are from Europe and we are not used to be check on every three minutes. But everything was really perfect.
More of a local’s vibe. Location is not ideal and parking could be a problem at busier times (we are early).Food was okay; good but not 5-star.Ate outside and attacked by mosquitoes and no fans on in outdoor area. But comfortable seating and table. Our server was knowledgeable but not as attentive as other servers at other tables. Not a place we will regularly go. A once or twice a year type of place for us.
I was excited to try the Jerk wings that many have raved about. I got there about 1:30, to say service was slow is generous. I finally just took a seat at the bar, but no one tending it so still waited for server. Ordered 10 wings and black beans and rice. Time from order to delivered was good, the wings looked good, were crispy and the meat cooked well. However no Jamaican would ever think these were jerk wings. No real seasoning flavor. The black beans and rice were good, nothing memorable but expectations weren’t as high either.Me bill with a tea was under $14 and plenty of food for a meal. The staff I interacted with was super friendly, maybe they were going through a let down after the lunch rush. I am not against going back but I won’t make a special trip.
I have been here 5 times in the last 3 years and always trying to look for the positive. I’m never coming back after tonight. I am usually disappointed when I leave and there’s nothing special about the house salad of chopped iceberg lettuce. I like the vibe but the disappointing food and uncouth server is where I draw the line. I’ve hosted and waited tables and never once chased a customer down when I couldn’t find a check, but was appalled tonight when that happened in the parking lot. Maybe someone else bused the table, but I left more than a 20% gratuity and was asked in the parking lot for the receipt knowing I left the copy on the table and the server came out the front door and asked for it and then had the audacity to ask what the amount of the tip was in front of our friends we were dining with how much we left. He was obviously a veteran server and reeked of cigarette smoke, but NO you will not get our business again and our friends will not be coming back either - that was their first and last time.
I found this place randomly looking around.I called at 11:30am to place a pick up order so I could eat and share with people at work. I asked for the order to be picked up at 5pm. So plenty of time.I get there around 5:15-5:20 food still not ready. Then the hostess looked at me like I was wrong for being upset that the food I ordered 5 hours prior was not ready.First impressions are a lasting impression.
The taste of the food was good we where sat quickly but had a reservation wait staff was friendly and attentive the over quality of the food was subpar this trip. The jerk pork was well over cooked. And the prime rib was a secondary cut of meat at best and it was priced well above fair market rate I would have been ashamed to have served that piece of meat at my restaurant
The food, atmosphere and service was as expected, BUT BEWARE!!!!!I ordered a VIRGIN Strawberry daiquiri. After taking a full pull in the straw. Not virgin !! I have been in recovery for 2 years 4 months and 2 weeks. She never apologized, I was devastated and she knew it. She avoided us. This was, and is a big deal. NO CARE..... WE WILL NOT BE BACK
Was so looking forward to my first visit to Raes, as it came highly recommended. Nice little cozy setting and wasnt so loud you couldnt have a conversation. I ordered a glass of Riesling and was brought something else (Moscato maybe) that I just couldnt drink. Then the hair in the potatoes was just too much to bare. I was done. Hopefully my experience was an isolated one.
Absolutely top-notch experience ! Took my wife for her birthday and I was a hero for it.the trout was marvelous and the jerk chicken is excellent.the key lime pie made her tear up a little; it tasted just like what her mother used to make.A definite must if youre in the area.
Raes is one of our local favorites but our last time dining there (48th wedding anniversary) seemed sub par. We had crab cakes which were good but rather small. Green beans were good. The problem was with the rice. Seemed like they forgot to cook it. It was very crunchy. Based on past experiences and good service I still think they are a good establishment, just a little off the mark.
This place is a best kept secret. You wont see it passing by on the normal roads. This restaurant is surrounded by apartments, condos, and townhouses. The food is great. They have seafood, island food, and other tasty menu items. The jerk chicken is what I normally get. The salad is amazing as well. I recommend coming here if you really want to go somewhere that is low key yet highly enjoyable. The owners are very nice and gracious. They speak to me every time they see me. I love this establishment.
This is a hidden place in Augusta. Food are delicious. Price reasonableA popular among locals. Situated away from busy streets of downtown. A creek that runs behind the restaurant makes the ambience serene. Servers are attentive and friendly. Jerk pork was cook to perpection.
Havent been since 2018, and both the service and food quality has degraded significantly. Previously the food was great, the service prompt... I was really looking forward to a nice dinner and we sat forever before getting drink orders in and then the food was a dry.... Maybe we will try again in a while and hope it was just an off night
Jena, our very good waitress, says 95% of customers are local. We arrived at 5PM on a Saturday. The house salad is very tasty & the she crab soup is tasty & actually has some crab meat in it. We shared the unusual presentation of a tasty shrimp and grits as a serving-sized, dish-baked, souffle style variant. The cafe is well into a neighborhood & first-timers will need to carefully follow your GPS. Incidentally, there was a group of maybe 20 Irish Traveler women & children customers (from Aiken?) waiting to be seated as we ate.
Just left Raes following a terrible experience. We arrived as soon as the doors opened (11:30). My friend ordered a lemonade and twice the glass was dirty. We order an appetizer (which was good) and the rest of lunch at the same time. Nearly 45 minutes later, we had not received bread or salads while other patrons who came in behind us did. We requested the check before our meals came and left. This is unacceptable service.
My Family had their annual Christmas gathering on 12/14/19, and being a large group, we were seated in an area away fromothers. It was a wonderful experience everyoneloved and enjoyed. The food was delicious. The service was excellent. We may plan to go again next Christmas. Thanks to the staff for showing us a wonderful time.
Poor service. My husband and I used to love this place but now the service has gone wayyyy down hill. We used to get some of the best service in town here and now every single one of the staff members who gave us top notch service have left :( the food has gone downhill too.. this place just isn’t the same.. it’s going downhill.
Food was delicious! I had the prime rib and it was cooked to perfection. It comes with a salad and potatoes. Honestly the salad looked a little iffy...others have posted photos...but I had no complaints. Husband got a ribeye which was also delicious. It is a little pricey and also kind of hidden, my GPS had a hard time. I believe all of their beer is can or bottle, no draft. But they have a few good options. Id definitely eat here again!
Have to say one of my absolute favorite restaurants let me down last night.Wife and I were craving your shrimp and grits. They looked so yummy when they were served. That first bite told a different story. They were very runny and lumpy. You know like when you save a pot of grits and you try to reuse them by adding liquid and not stirring them enough. Flavor was good, but texture was terrible.
Got a wee bit lost trying to find it with gps. I guess we beat the Sunday crowd because we were the only one there a little before 5pm. So were seated immediately. Relaxed atmosphere and pleasant staff. The jerk chicken wings app was great. I ordered the grilled salmon with the rice/black bean side. One son had the kids chicken fingers/fries and my other son had the fried shrimp with rice/black bean side. The both loved their meals. My salmon lacked flavor though. Wish it came with a sauce on top. Other than that a great experience.
Hidden little gem in the back of a subdivision! Great atmosphere and good service! Crab cakes and she crab soup was delicious! Shrimp and grits were just average! The shrimp and crab was mixed throughout and then broiled. I personally enjoy the shrimp on top and creamier!
I went there with my family after my fathers funeral back in April 2017. We all had a great time, which lifted our spirits after doing our melancholy duty. I had the prime rib steak, I believe, which was great. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the atmosphere could be called kind of casual resort in my opinion. We were able to stick my brother with the bill, so I dont remember the cost. But for the food, service and atmosphere, medium-high would have been reasonable.
After hearing so many good things about Rae’s Coastal Cafe, we finally are trying it out. No excuses for not making here before other than getting distracted and going somewhere else that we were familiar with. Glad that this restaurant popped up in my mind tonight! Though it’s hidden away in Forest Hills and a little difficult to find, I’m glad we found it. Great Caribbean “jerk” menu as well as steaks, prime rib, and seafood. I am having the Sea Scallops in citrus butter and my partner the Jerk Baby Back Ribs. Very busy on Friday nights so get here early. The house salad was delicious with a simple seasoned oil and vinegar dressing. I could have easily eaten more. The iced tea was ice cold and fresh brewed. The scallops were sweet and buttery. The ribs were spiced just right and accompanying potato salad scrumptious. The rice and black beans with the scallops were just tight. So glad we made it and will definitely be back again. I highly recommend this restaurant!
As I remembered from my last visit, the crab cakes are outstanding! I especially like the way they are served with the remoulade under the crab cakes and not on top. They are just totally lump crab, no fillers! The Green Jacket salad, green beans and yellow rice were perfect accompaniments and we were lucky to hit on Wednesday 25% wine discount night! The restaurant is definitely off the beaten path so set your GPS so you don’t miss out on a hidden local gem!!
Used to be a favorite spot of mine... but I had been craving a good steak since March and the lock down. I was able to go with my wife and ordered the filet and shrimp- a $31 entree (Total bill for 4 people, $170 not including tip). The steak was GARBAGE. I am fairly certain it was par cooked and was seriously overcooked. I ordered medium-rare, the steak was gray throughout. I am no butcher but also dont feel like the cut of meat was a tenderloin. It tasted like it had sat in the walk-in over night! It may still be a good place for a cold beer and salad, but stay away from the fancier side of things. To summarize: a steak at Applebees would have been better, and that is in no way an exaggeration.
Had date night here and it was amazing! We had the Shrimp Patté for an appetizer, She Crab soup, Dolphin sandwich, and the Trout....everything was really, really good! Our waitress was very pleasant, answered all our questions about the menu, and kept our drinks filled. We will definitely be back!
Service was a little slow, the guy behind the bar was waaaaaaay more interested in talking to the kitchen staff than taking care of the people at the bar. The food was good. The shrimp and grits were prepared different than I have had before. The shrimp sandwich was delicious! The steak at the next table over looked phenomenal!!!
We were so impressed with Raes. We live in the neighborhood, and decided to eat here for lunch. What an amazing experience! The food was delightful, the staff was friendly and courteous, and the atmosphere is one of the best in Augusta. Raes has an outdoor patio area right next to Raes Creek, which made the experience even better. We will be back soon.
Nice place hidden inside a quiet neighborhood. The service was alright. Food was very bland. The kids had grilled cheese which was basically 2 slices of cheese on burger buns not even but together. My New Orleans fried shrimp had no flavor or seasoning at all..the black beans and rice was ok as well as the black bean dip and chips. That was pretty much it. I wouldn’t go again.
First time there and such a delightful experience! We had the jerk wings, she crab soup, prime rib and blackened Mahi Mahi. It was all delicious! The service was excellent! The appetizer and entrees was perfectly timed so we werent rushed. The only thing we would have liked was Thousand Island dressing for the salad but that didnt deter us from having a wonderful meal. Im already looking forward to going back to try something new!
LOVE Rae’s. Delicious food and drinks in a spot you wouldn’t expect in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. I’m not a seafood fan but I love all the options for non-seafood eaters and the food was always delicious. When we lived in Augusta it was one of our favorite spots to eat. Definitely recommend.
This is a delightful cafe. Its closer to a full-serve restaurant than a cafe. The description of what they serve is spot-on. The food was fantastic. The service was okay at best but it was getting pretty busy. I liked that it was tucked away from everything. Id definitely like to come back.
My husband and I travel quite a bit and came across this restaurant based on the good reviews. We arent originally from this area and thought wed grab a bite from this restaurant.Immediately upon entering this restaurant, we found that our waiter seemed bored and was talking to another server right next to our table. That was immediately a red flag. The salad that weve received was soggy. When we pushed it to the side, the waiter took it away without even asking us what was wrong with it. The entire time we waited for our meals, the other staff were standing around chatting near our table. It was awkward that they were staring at us while we ate our food.We finally get our meals and found that my husbands shrimp was over cooked and had an off taste to it. My meal wasnt anything special. Especially not worth the $27.The entire duration we were there, the staff continued to socialize without interacting with the customers. Our waiter barely even spoke to us. Maybe because we arent locals?Overall our meals cost about $78 including a tip. Was not worth it since the quality and customer service wasnt up to par. I could have ate at a three star restaurant in Orlando and paid less then this with much better customer service.
Been going here for years. I lived in Augusta for a long time and the military took me to FL, NC and now KY. I always try to get to Raes when Im in town.AtmosphereGreat food from a thoughtful menuWonderful serviceIll be there this week right after I get into town.Kid friendly. Just friendly.
Rae”s Coastsl Cafe is famous for its decor and location as well as the quality of its cuisine. Who could have imagined that it would so quickly become the #1 curbside gourmet restaurant during the lockdown. No dine-in chaos. Hygienic, professional, safe, efficient. And the food hasn’t diminished in excellence one bit! I’m so impressed at how you have developed this system of curbside service and simultaneously kept making incredibly delicious meals. Still #1 in Augusta! Thank you!
The waiter and manager were helpful. My issue is with the time it took for me to get a salmon salad. It was a party of 7 and they all got their salad and the main course. Before I ever got mine. The manager brought me my entree free of charge, but the salmon was dry and the orange rum sauce that is supposed to be accompanied with the fish was no where to be found. Maybe we caught them on a rough Sunday, but next time Im in Augusta I will give them a retry.
Raes Coastal Cafe also offer a full bar. We ordered the Jerk Chicken Wings for an appetizer and they were so delicious we also ordered off the dinner menu the Prime Rib meal, I must say it was out of sight. We really enjoyed this establishment and would recommend it to family and friends alike, finding it may be a challenge however worth the attempt, Raes Costal Cafe is a true Augusta hidden gem!
I give it a 4 because the food is really good and it made me feel back at home being from a coastal town. Its a spot I can see myself frequenting often. However not 5 because the service wasnt all too great. But I think it was merely our server being new or something. She wasnt horrible but at the end of our dinner we all wanted to have a cup of coffee and it was 30 mins or more before we saw her again so by the time she came back around we said forget it and left. Just wasnt worth it at that point. But all around a good experience.
Raes is a pretty terrible restaurant and I wouldnt eat there again if it was free. We showed up at 5:45pm on a Saturday hoping to beat the dinner crowd. It was already pretty busy and the hostess told us our wait would be about 45 minutes. Over an hour later, we are finally seated and our food shows up after about 30 more minutes of waiting. The food was boring. The coconut shrimp wasnt very good, the mahi was actually cooled well, but he jerk pork was especially dry and served luke warm. The beer prices made absolutely no sense. The male bartender seemed to ignore male customers and only serve the females. After seeing nothing but high dollar cars in the parking lot, I expected a decent meal. Sadly, I was mistaken.
Lovely room, calm atmosphere, appetizers plentiful, and presentation of dishes was beautiful. The banquettes were not as comfortable as a chair, but the food was the great distraction. Being from the land of limited fresh fish, everything we ordered had that clean fresh taste in the shellfish and fish that is so elusive once you leave the coast.
Caribbean food is known to be spicy. Many people shy away for this reason. The food at Raes hits the balance of heat and flavor. The heat takes a back seat to the flavor. Its there, but not all you taste. The wings are some of the best, if not the best, Ive had in Augusta. And the staff are friendly. Well definitely be returning!
Mediocre experience overall. In the middle of a neighborhood of townhouses, a little tricky to find. The atmosphere is pretty quaint, kind of southern coastal charm, but I was overall disappointed by the experience. All of the food was really oily - the salad was coated in a olive oil so much the lettuce was limp, the foods taste did not meet the price, and the selection was rather limited. Being a southerner, most southern seafood restaurants have a little more variety - prawns, oyster, mussels, clams, pastas. It kind of seemed like someone got lost and threw together a menu of shrimp and grits, beans and rice, and po boys and called it a day. The service was good, aside from it being noisy, and we apparently got a bad table in the serving area. My boyfriends head was three inches from a very narrow shelf of extra silverware, straws, and pitchers of sweet tea, and I got trapped in my seat next to a tray of plates for neighboring tables. It was loud, hard to hear one another. I doubt well go back.
In town for the week and noticed this place on gmaps. Dont be put off by its location, we thought we were going to someones house, but were soon presently surprised by the quality of the food. Their salads are delicious and their catch of the day was fresh and tasty. They have some amazing dressings and sauces on their dishes. I will definitely be going back the next time Im in town.
Great food but had two bad experiences. The first one it was not crowded put our name on the list and the 3 hostesss lost our name After I asked how much longer. After 20 mins of waiting and numerous party of 2s being seated we ended up walking out. The second time the server was definitely catering to her usual customers, we couldnt even get our drink refilled and they got their food way before us even being seated 15 mins after us. Was the first time I have never left a tip. Went back not long ago and the food and service was excellent. Seems some of the waitresss dont care about you if your not a usual customer.
Ive heard many good things about this place and my husband and I thought we would give it a try. We were disappointed to say the least. Then Only good thing that we liked was their wings and thats it. Today we went for lunch and thought we would give it another go and order something different. I got the Jerk Chicken sandwich with fries and my husband got the cheesburger in paradise with fries. Huge disappointment again. You can tell the burger was frozen prior to cooking and had that Bubba Burger brand look to it. The jerk chicken was a charbroiled thin chicken patty with a glob of jerk sauce in the middle. The fries were the only good part. For 2 sandwiches and fries it took over 45 minutes to receive our food. The restaurant was not crowded by any means and our waiter gave us the wrong check in the end. As cool as the decor is inside and out , the food and service did not reflect it.
Hands down the best ribs Ive ever tasted 😍. They fell right off the bone and were so juicy and tender with the perfect amount of seasoning! So glad we found this place and will definitely be back!P.S. if you think you are lost because your in a residential neighborhood, you arent lost. Thats just how you get there 😂
The facilities and staff were nice. It was just likely not my cup of tea. It is a local restaurant and I hear quite popular. It is tucked away, so you would not happen across it if you were driving through town. This is why I had high hopes. In comparison to other local restaurants, it was extremely overpriced and the quantity was unimpressive. I ordered the crabmeat sandwich with rice and beans. My meal was edible, but not flavorful. My friend ordered the jerk chicken. She said it was just meh. She didnt like the rice and beans at all. (I at least ate all mine as it was nearly $15) Ultimately, it may be loved by many, but I would not elect to return.
Another fine Raes meal, had the cheese burger and an IPA. Noticed the big fish tank is out for repair.....pity....I enjoy looking at the fish when Im at the bar. No worries, staff said its coming back. Went back with friends just yesterday for a nice Friday lunch, as always received the finest care...and a nice bottle of sauvignon blanc.
Talk about off the beaten path found this place on Google Maps while driving up I20 into Augusta. As I followed the directions I couldnt believe that there would be a restaurant there. But sure enough there it was. This is where the locals go around Augusta to eat. I learned that it has been open for 27 years.Great food at a reasonable price. Stephanie was my waitress and did an excellent job taking care of me.If you can find it you wont be disappointed. The Frogmore Stew is delicious.
We havent been to Raes in several years. Well, we had our Christmas get together there this year. We were quite disappointed. The hostess could use a lesson on listening and paying attention to the guests explanation on which party we were meeting. She insisted our party wasnt there and the only large party was the one behind me. She finally found the name of the party on her second page. I understand they do not take reservations but they were informed a week in advance, that our large group would like to have a particular time slot. We waited at least an hour and fifteen minutes past the requested time. We were finally seated, at different tables but in the same area. One of the specials were the scallops in a champagne sauce reduction? Oops, mistake on my part, should have inquired which scallop. It had six tiny bay scallops, a little over cooked. Not worth the $26.99. I know these are suppose to be sweeter, but really? Sea scallops would have been a better option. Yes, bay scallops may have been a better food cost item, I understand, but really. Rice and black beans I would have considered to be lower food cost items and plates fillers, were a joke maybe had 1/3 of a cup of rice with 1/4 cup of black beans on it. I do have to say, the Key Lime martini was awesome.I do not think the place has been updated since we were there the last time. That may have been about 13 or so years ago. Parking could use some help too. Many in our party were there for the first time. Sad to say, they commented that they would not return.I am giving three stars because the young man managing that night tried very hard to make it right by helping to serve and make sure we were taken care of by giving an appetizer while we waited and then cheesecake for our unfortunate experience.
We absolutely adore this restaurant. My husband was stationed at Fort Gordon for AIT and I used to go visit him on 4-days and we would come here every time. We had the same waitress both times who was super sweet and it didnt take long for us to get our food. Lets face it though I would wait an hour just to get food from Raes. Their Jerky Chicken Sandwich is really good and my husband likes the Blackened Mahi Mahi. I will also say that being from Texas I never think that anyones sweet tea is the best outside of my home state. Not because I am loyal to the homeland but because I just havent found sweet tea as good as the tea back home, but Raes does have amazing sweet tea! If you ever get the chance to go, jump! Its the best and I really wish I could pick it up and bring it to Tampa as that is where we currently live now. Such a great experience with great food!
Tucked away, this place has quite good food and a nice atmosphere. The crab cakes and crab sandwich were excellent: no imitation meat used, and excellent seasoning. The presentation isnt great, and the jerk pork was on the dry side on my first visit, but its always a fun place to go. Sit outside or get a window seat and watch the ducks on the stream outside.
Went for my wife’s b-day......they made it a memorable experience......food was great customer service was even better. The manager/owner is personable and made sure our every need was met......we will definitely return again and again......thank you so much for the experience
Amazing place! The servers were knowledgeable and it was a very friendly atmosphere. I can see why this place is on Augusta’s top ten places to dine. We will certainly be back. Had the frogmore and blackened Mahi Mahi for the entrees and shared a bowl of she crab soup for an appetizer. Simply amazing!
Traveling through Augusta and found this Excellent locally owned place, it is tucked so far off the beaten path one almost has to get lost to find it! Food is very good, service is excellent, atmosphere is great! Ask for the dressing on the side for the salad though, otherwise its dressing soup with a little lettuce!
First of all the bread was like the softest, most luxurious, pillow I have ever had in my life. I could compare to the mane of a unicorn. Secondly, if I could have taken a bath in the sauce that was on the scallops, I would have. Our entire experience was legendary, from the golf tournament all the way through to the spectacular key lime pie. Our waiter, Mark, was the best.
This place is a hidden gem in Augusta. Youll think youre going the wrong way as you arrive as it is nestled in a quaint little neighborhood. Very quiet location with a nice patio for outdoor eating. Highly recommend the Jerk Pork Tenderloin. I will definitely eat here again.
I took a client to lunch and we both ordered the she crab soup and the luncheon crab cakes with yellow rice, black beans, and a side salad. The soup was absolutely spot on; delicious blending of flavor and served nice and hot. The crab cakes.....oh....my....word. They were perfect! Full of crab meat, very little filler, and the spices didnt overpower the delicate crab. Im a crab cake fanatic and these were up there in the top 5 restaurants who knew how to make a superb crab cake. The service was friendly, professional, and quick making this an ideal luncheon spot for business. I always try to support local businesses and so pleased I can recommend to others to definitely go and enjoy.
The food here is superb! Their chicken wings and pepper dipping sauce are out of this world. My favorite though has to be the blackened mahi mahi, which is hard to find in Augusta. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the lack of draft beer. Sorry, bottles only.
Very nice establishment Ive lived in Augusta Georgia for 38 years Ive been a raised coastals Cafe as parking lot a hundred times meeting various people but I never been in to eat until last night very fine establishment elegant classy its not really that pricey it just depends on what you get but the quality of the food the service the weight staff the management the cleanliness upscale classic restaurant you need to go by and see the fine folks that Rae,s coastal Cafe Google maps to take your right to it
Had not been here in years and wish I would have left it that way. We were a table of 4 and had the poorest service. We noticed our server took care of 4 other tables that came in after us with care. The food took 50mins and a refill on water, ugh. Luckily we stopped other servers to help us. It went from a $25 tip to zero. It was sad and this place was so good.
It took a long 50 minutes on Tuesday night for our food to be delivered to the table. I ordered the salmon salad; the salad greens were wilted and the grilled salmon was room temperature. It was not edible, so I returned it to the kitchen and left without eating. And on top if it all, the service was unfriendly. When I visit Augusta again, I will not be eating at Raes Coastal Cafe.
Raes Coastal Cafe is a local favorite located in a West Augusta neighborhood. A casual family-friendly full-service restaurant, the decor is a little tired but the wall of windows on the back overlooking the outdoor dining area and Raes Creek and the woods usually makes up for it. The food is usually very good and features Southern favorites, including seafood.
Not sure who posted all those wonderful reviews but heres OUR experience. Last Sunday evening around 7:30 PM we walk in and were shown to our table. Inside is dark but if you look around everything, including carpet, wall covering, etc. is old and dirty. We order She crab soup and fish: my wife had the salmon, I had the blackened Mahi-Mahi. The soup was cold, more mushroomy than crabby, with way too much heavy cream in it - couldnt eat it. The bread rolls were the type you buy at any food store and stick in the oven: they came out extremely hard on the bottom and undone in the middle - couldnt eat them. Both fish were on the dry side with no flavor: my potatoes were some too mushy, some undone. Our waitress realized the situation but made no attempt to call the manager or even ask if we wanted to exchange our selection - we still left 20% gratuity. All in all a bad experience: we will not go back and wed advise others to stay away too.
Luckily its about a 5 minute walk for me, but it can be hard to find because its inside of a condo complex, but can still get pretty busy. Great staff and the the best shrimp and grits Ive ever had. The jerk chicken is delicious and they also keep a good assortment of hot sauces on the tables. Supposedly Bill Murray visits during Masters Week too.
!!!!!!!!! THE...WORST....SERVICE....EVER !!!!!!!!!I wont go into it lets just say my party was waiting almost 30 minutes before we even got water. Short and sweet the food wasnt terrible. $30 ribeye was decent but I can get the same thing at Longhorn..( without driving through an apartment complex to get to the restaurant NICE TOUCH)Trust me, Nothing I would make a special trip for like we did being out of towners. Word to the wise anything fried here is FRIED!!! Like left in the oil too long get out your heart medicine fried.Sorry Raes but you wont be seeing us anytime soon!
Over the past 15 years, I’ve dined at Raes Coastal Café 40+ times, and, though I could put it more eloquently, I have this to say:It doesn’t suck, Mon!The attentive service, drool-worthy apps and entrees and the good company of the gracious, gregarious owner Walter Clay…This is my restaurant of choice for business, for buddies, for after-workout-grab-it-to-go delectable fare.Certain characteristics distinguish a good restaurant from an average one, but there’s one characteristic that makes a good restaurant great, and that’s consistency. It’s easy to get it right one time, but to get it right time and time again? That takes good management, a passion for pleasing patrons and a little bit of magic. And there’s magic at Raes. You leave some restaurants having enjoyed the meal and service but questioning the value: Does a great dining experience have to cost that much? And you leave other restaurants thrilled by the whole event only to return a week or two later, and, well, it sucks.Raes Coastal Café doesn’t suck.Try the black bean dip and nacho chips, shrimp pate with a tease of mango chutney or the perfectly spiced jerk chicken wings for an appetizer. (The wings, along with the house salad and its homemade dressing, are one of my favorite to-go combos. I make two meals out of one serving.)For lunch, try the grilled salmon marinated in an orange rum sauce, mahi mahi topped with Raes mango chutney or the moist Jamaican jerk pork. And if the crab cake is one of the daily specials, you have got to order it: the patty is generously packed with sweet, fresh crab. (I don’t think there’s a crumb of filler in those babies.)Try anything jerked with the triple hot dipping sauce made from Scotch bonnet peppers that’s prepared daily. This is a review, not an invitation. I hope that you, like others, will have trouble finding this place, because it’s hard enough to find a seat at the bar. (Reservations are not accepted, so please stay home.)

2022-05-25We visited for lunch on a Saturday to celebrate our daughters birthday. The food was really tastey. She and I had the chicken in a flaky pastry. It was served hot and was delicious. My husband had the wings and said they were good as well. The only note I would make to others would be about the restrooms that had shower curtains instead of doors and are in desperate need of an upgrade. The fish tank was awesome. Service was great and they have a friendly staff.

2021-07-26If by coastal you mean the questionable creek that runs behind it then ok. Not worth the hype and definitely not worth the money. Make reservations because if you sit outside you will be swatting flies the entire time! The flies were crazy. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was the worst mistake I had made all day, besides driving to Augusta to begin with. Never had grits with the taste and consistency of Thanksgiving dressing. It was gross, like really gross. Maybe the cook thought it was dressing. The shrimp were nonexistent and located on the bottom of the microwaved dish. They were chewy and way too pink, probably left in the microwave too long. The pineapple was so hard I could hardly cut it, they should have thrown it in the microwave too. My mom said her salmon was good so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. The server was beyond nice and helpful, even brought us an empty bottle of bug spray to look at. Leave the coastal seafood to the coast, not a building in the middle of an apartment complex in the city.

2022-05-22Went as a date. We were seated in a decent time and at a nice location, by the aquarium. Ultimately the atmosphere and the service were not bad at all. The food was overpriced and tasted worse than a chain restaurant. My girlfriend was taken aback by the taste of her shrimp and grits. My steak and shrimp were okay, not amazing, but the rice and beans left a lot to be desired. I was hoping that, due to he neighborhood and reviews, the food would he amazing but was left unsatisfied. Would not recommend.

2022-04-19Rae’s never disappoints!! This visit was for lunch with my BFF and we both tried something different because the famous crab cakes are not on the lunch menu (be sure to ask about the specials of the day!). I had the grilled Maui Maui with Cuban rice and black beans and a small house salad. My friend had the coconut shrimp with the same sides. Both meals were great and the atmosphere is perfect. Rae’s is well with the trip!!

2022-02-12Went there for lunch with a large group of friends. The waitress handled everything perfectly, despite everything being on separate tickets. The food was really good. Definitely recommend the crab cake special.

2022-02-02Raes Coastal Café has never disappointed us. Fine dining, in a lovely atmosphere. Each person we encountered from the Hostess (LuLu), Bartender, our Waitress (Harper) and even the other customers were nice, respectful adults. This place is great for dinner dates, laid back happy hour, just go experience Raes if you haven’t already it’s worth the buck! The food is SLAMMING! Kudos to the chef!

2022-04-21This was our 1st and last time coming here.Honestly, youre literally paying more for the location than decent food. Its way too overpriced, and the hamburger patty my husband had looked like it had been frozen, not hand made. Garys has better, actual handmade hamburgers, and I could get better seafood at Red Lobster, and the service wasnt the greatest either. We ate out on the porch and our server barely came out. We needed additional napkins, and a refill, and after waiting for a long time, we finally asked for the check and waited just as long to pay until my husband finally got up to do it instead of waiting on her. What makes it more disappointing is that we dont go out that often, and this was to celebrate my birthday.

2022-03-12Our waitress was great, and our jerk chicken was really good. The salad should come with the option to put the dressing on the side because it was way too much vinegar and we couldnt finish our salad. Other than that its a great place!
