Red Top Mountain State Park in other cities:
Absolutely beautiful area to explore not far off I75. We were on a road trip and decided to stop off here to take a break. Im so happy we did and cant wait to go back and explore more. Allatoona Lake is stunning. We went in for a swim and could clearly see through the water even at 6 foot depth. There are hiking trails and beaches throughout the area. Parking was readily available.
Beautiful flat easy 5mile hike around Lake Allatoona. Great for dogs too.Campground was one of the nicest we have been to. Large sites, clean bathhouse, trees surrounding, water at site, and friendly staff. Felt very peaceful. Campground is gated so no walk up campsites after hours!!
Absolutely gorgeous! Campsites are spread out, clean, well maintained. The lake was beautiful! We had a gorgeous view of the lake from our site. The staff was the friendliest staff weve ever encountered...they even text me while I was on the way to let me know they closed at 5pm, that they left an envelope with a map and other info about the campground, etc. in a secure spot for me to pick up when we got there. Then the following day they text me again to make sure I made it there safely! Above and beyond :) This park will definitely be a regular go to for many more relaxing camping trips!!
A beautiful park and a pretty great camping experience all things considered. There is some construction going on right now, so only half the bathrooms are up and running, but those bathrooms are brand new and very nice. Theyre clean, spacious, and have excellent water temperature and pressure. The campsites themselves are well kept and have plenty of space for average needs. We very much enjoyed ours.Definitely go on one of the guided hikes. Our Ranger, Carrie, was delightful and told us about the history of the area while she guided us along one of the trails. We had a blast.
This is the best park if you live in Atlanta. Under an hour away, tons of hiking trails, well maintained facilities. If you want trails, park at the visitor center and store. Half a dozen start or cross that area. If you want to swim or kayak, park at the Event Conference Room (50 Lodge rd). There are a few dozen different sites nearby where you can setup a picnic and swim with your own group instead of at a big shared beach area. You can walk kayaks or paddleboards into the water (no 3 drop like at Lanier sites) and the inlet east of the Center is no wake, so boats mostly stay out.
I’ve been visiting RTM for years as a place to paddle, bike, and hike. There’re numerous places to set in for a great day of paddling with several large coves to chill out. At one end of the park is Iron Hill, a wide 3.3 mile graveled loop for hiking or *bike riding (beginner bike trail great for a family ride). Further in the park is the Homestead trail which is a longer (~6 mile loop) slightly more moderate hike and very scenic. Other shorter trails can be accessed off Homestead for a longer excursion. The newly renovated beach area is incredible with a dozen picnic tables and plenty of grills. The beach has been widened and is ADA accessible. There are new bathrooms along with a changing area and an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand. If it gets too crowded at the beach, there are plenty of other spots in the large park with easy access to the lake and so many other places to picnic and grill. Then there’s the park’s campground with 92 sites, most with power and water. The campground is beautifully nestled in the woods with many sites close to the water.*For the avid MTB rider, head to nearby Blankets Creek Bike Trails. The 25 minute drive will be worth your time.
My brother rented a cabin so my parents could visit. The staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient. We have a 3 br 2 bath for people with disabilities.Everything is clean and well-maintained.The screened porch protects against bugs.Theres an outdoor fire pit, barbeque, table with seating, and plenty of space to set up a turkey fryer.Dinner table seats 10, couches etc. and a Lincoln wood stove round out the great room.
Red Top Mountain is a beautiful park that is under needed renovation. The campsites are not up to standards set by other Georgia State Parks. The roads through the campsites are narrow and most campsites are small. I found it difficult getting our camper into our campsite and it was so narrow that we were unable to extend our awning more than about four feet.I look forward to returning after the campground renovations are completed but this time around the best thing was lunch in Ackworth at Henrys Louisiana Grill which will definitely be on our agenda when visiting the Ackworth area.
Red Top Mountain is an absolutely beautiful park. The winds that come if the lake is cooling and the forest isnt so dense that you cant see through it. Prefect. The park is also very well maintained. With such a large property, trees fall quite often but whenever I go, the newly fallen trees are always cut to allow the pathway through. The only thing I would say is that their pay to park signs arent extremely obvious. I do believe you need a pass to park at Red Top. Other than that though, this park is a wonderful hiking experience. If youve got a few hours to spare theyd be well spent here!
Lots of walking areas for short hikes or simply walking around. Has a few camping spots available for rent. The marinas are private. Most (if not all) with members-only access. Sunsets during fall and spring are a must see. Parking prices are low and reasonable and it is strictly enforced (the fine it’s not worth the dollar it cost). Plenty of beach and fishing areas.
Beautiful natural preserves area, you can find different places for parking, the areas is huge and good for hiking, biking, kids and dogsIt’s has $5 for parking and it has place for boating and different kind of river games, tubing and etc, it’s amazing don’t miss it.
Red Top is a beautiful park. My family from out of town stayed in one of the cabins. We visited them while they were there. The cabins are really nice. Only a two car limit to park at the cabin. We spent a lot of time driving back in forth to the visitor center to pick up or drop off family members. That is where additional parking is. Due to additional parking so far away I didnt give a 5 star rating.
Pretty park. Had construction going on but nobody told us at check in. We were right next to it, so the noise level was a little high, especially if you were going for some peace and quiet. Contractor cut the water line around 5:30 pm and didnt get it back til 9. Nobody from office ever notified us of outage or when it was expected to be back on. I had to walk over to Contractor to get details.Other than the construction, its a pretty park with a lot of good hiking trails. My low marks were due to front office not being involved.
The area is nice and so is the campground. Our issue was the renovations. It says areas are closed but we were put in a spot close to the back bathrooms but we werent told that it was closed and the other one wasnt in walking distance. The water at the campsite wasnt working and workers literally walked through our campsite before 8am carrying buckets of gravel filling in holes. Kinda awkward when they are walking through our site within feet of our tent.
AMAZING!! We rented a trailer in Fort Myers Florida and pulled it all the way to Red Top Mountain in Georgia. WOW! I did not want to leave! It was so beautiful! We made friends with near by campers, fished all night, saw lots of deer at sunrise and rented a pontoon and cruised the lake for a day. The facilities were nice (shower and restrooms). I seriously could have moved on in!
Roads are narrow be sure to check in at office/ general store before going on to campground as it is gated and you need a code. All the pull - through sites are big and nice kept well! Don’t be afraid to pull into check in area you can pull through to get out- could use a sign to let people know
I love this place. The campground was clean and quiet for the most part. The bathrooms were clean. The campers were friendly and the check in was simple and easy. We had some problems backing into our reserved 30 ft campsite. So I called reservations and the clerk switched us to a more leveled site. I plan to go back again and again. What a great Xmas holiday at Red Mountain State Park.
Its extremely hard to find a picnic table to relax n grill or have family gatherings. Its always extremely packed with Hispanics and they always leave their trash and litter all over the park I have watched this! I am just saying save a table for other folks we know u have alot of family members ans and that is great but its just not fair to never be able to enjoy the lake anymore. And please clean up after your parties!!
We scheduled a visit for one of their yurts and it was horrendous. One of the beds was so structurally unsound that the mattress fell through and made me hit my head on the bed frame. It was not safe. Furthermore, when we called the overnight staff they fully ignored us and refused to come fix the bed or get us somewhere else to stay. This led to a lack of space due to the unusable bunk. When we went to physically look for someone to help us, there was no one to be found. The staff literally was not there. This meant we had to either cram eight people into three beds or leave. We left. Its a beautiful park, but the staff is unhelpful and their living spaces were physically dangerous. I do not recommend staying here unless you are willing to send for yourself.
Beautiful landscape through out. Plenty of hiking trails and lots of paved walkways. Water is real low this time of year exposing lots of rocky outcroppings that would normally be submerged under water. We went and checked out the cabins some of which are still being built and they look amazing. Cant wait to visit in the spring or summer.
Amazingly beautiful. Nature at its best. Great hiking, swimming, biking, camping.Few State parks in America are more enjoyable.Cartersville is a charming town less than 3 miles from the park.Campground has great RV areas for every size..many with great isolation from otherss.Only down side is the campground comfort stations. Will not overjudge...but if your camping..be prepared.
Beautiful park with tons of space and close to the lake. Plenty of options for everyone from biking to swimming to fishing to boating to hiking, this place has it all! Tons of shade for hot summer days and great places for picnics or camping or whatever you like. Multiple parking places keeps each place more open and most of the trails are moderate at worst with a few people easy ones. Pet, kid, and age friendly. A great place to visit
This is our absolute favorite place to stretch our legs. Its so beautiful and quiet. Behind the visitor center there is an outdoor classroom and a new playground (not yet open as of May 2021). There is a $5 parking fee that they will get you on, or you can get a yearly pass for $50 I think, and its good for all GA parks.
Im from acworth and i love it at this lake...it always feels like home...the area is beautiful inside the state park and everyone on staff seems very helpful and friendly...ive camped here many times but have always wanted to stay overnight in the cabins or even a houseboat both can be rented call ahead or check online for up to date information prior to visiting this great family destination...dont forget your walking stick. The trails are perfect for early morning or early evening walks. The kids will love it or enjoy a peaceful walk with your pet. Stay safe
Great, easy hike. Trails are very well maintained and the facilities such as the Visitor Center feel brand new. The lake has really low water levels right now which is actually a pretty cool sight. Ill definitely be back later in the year to check out a couple of the trails I skipped on today.
Great picnic spot with all the amenities available like kitchen, BBQ, bathroom etc. Needs pre booking. Great place to spend time and outing with family members. Highly recommended if you are looking for an outing for picnic. Can accommodate upito 100-200 people as well.
We came here to kayak for a couple hours and it was wonderful. The lake is huge and this park gives you good access to everything. There a lot of space and areas to access the water. You can explore freely and have a great time, although it was rather busy with boats when we went on 4th of July weekend. Regardless, it’s a beautiful area that offers kayaking, boating, hiking and biking. We would love to return.
Had a blast out at this park yesterday. It was a little windy out but the weather was nice. Had a chance to walk around and see the lake and spend time with the family. So if you just want to get away and see nature at its finest then take a trip here. There are swings for the kids, restrooms and even picnic tables for that forgotten family get together.
Great day hike, within an hour of Atlanta. Homestead trail is a good 2 hour and 5.5 miles of medium hardness, with about 1,200 feet elevation gain and 850 feet drop. Well groomed trails but honking boots recommended due to roots and some rocks. Overall, a nice exercise and scenery. Highly recommend!
A great state park thats located a short drive from the city making it a great place easy to escape to. Whenever I visit, its for a hike and Ive never been disappointed. I would highly recommend the Iron Hill Loop trail for a quiet hike with great views of the lake, but you cant go wrong with any of the trails here.
We visited Red Top Mountain State Parks campground in September 2020 and stayed in campsite #8. We camped in a 35 foot 5th wheel. The campground is very pretty and the sites are well spaced apart however very few are made for bigger rigs and it can be a challenge to get into and/or out of the sites. Our site was a pull through and easy to get into. It was oddly angled with a very steep drop off at one end with large rocks (boulders even) in the driveway. We were not confident that we could make the turn at the end of the site due to a large rock and several trees so backed our way out. Driving out of the circle was very close with trees and we had to go carefully so as not to hit anything on the way out. It is a lovely state park but I would caution any with bigger rigs to be aware of the close quarters.
We love Red Top as a place to both stop by for a day hike and to camp. I would say the camp ground is a little snug for our liking but the proximity to the water and trails is hard to beat and the camp hosts are usually very helpful although I know they change yearly. Our favorite trail is the Homestead Trail. Begins to the left of the Visitors Center (if you’re facing the door) and leads you down by the lake but at right around 5 miles can be a haul if you aren’t prepared. Watch out for snakes in the summer! We’ve seen a few sunning on different occasions.
Most of the trails here dont have huge elevation changes, and are in great shape. This is my first time on the homestead trail, and it was beautiful! They just built a new visitor center and my fiancee says its pretty nice, but it was closed during my visit due to the recent covid rules. The lake is nice and the dam has a nice corp of engineers visitor center also.
This is such a beautiful park. Looked like they had lots of trails. Great swimming area. Lots of boat ramps and marina within. Great location being right off of 75 between Chattanooga and Atlanta with lots to do in the towns surrounding. Our family will definitely return.
A beautiful state park with dense wooded forest, having scenic views of forest, lake, island and plateau. Having wonderful walking trails which opens till evenings, a spacious cottages and many camping grounds, small beaches and last but not least boats, jet-ski, kayaking which u will take for parties, fishing and roaming and watching natural beauties. Its totally fun and watching fall colour is awesome ☺️☺️. You could go there and barbecue and have fun. Nature lovers like it. Lake view is awesome
Really lovely park. Its a great place to spend the day fishing, picnicking, or laying around in your hammock. There is a beach for swimming when the season is right. It looks nice but I havent been there. On the weekends, its not a very peaceful place and parking is limited. Motorboats and children screaming from the beach (in the summer) ruin all the peace and quiet...but not nearly as much as the several very annoying jet-ski riders. Look elsewhere for a quiet retreat. Its $5 to park for the day. There are bathrooms, they are handicap acceptable.
Red Top Mountain State Park is a great park with adventure for hikers and boaters alike. There is a boat ramp, but also good opportunities to put a small craft in the water.Trails come in easy to moderate. There is even a wheelchair accessible trail.Camping is available with hookups and without.
What a great park. There is camping, hiking, boating and fishing. In the Camping area the showers are warm. There is a Landry so you can keep your clothes clean. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. This park is on huge lake and hiking is just amazing. Dear are through the park. The Ranger Staff is super. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome. Definitely a park to stop by and enjoy. Bicycle are a good thing to bring here as there are ample places to ride.
This is the place to go and enjoy different outdoor activities, either as a family or with youth groups. I had visited the campgrounds and the park with the youth group I lead several times and it has been a wonderful experience. Red Top Mountain campgrounds are well maintained, they have easy access to hiking trails, its restrooms are clean and well kept. They have the Americorps team leading some of the activities and classes like Archery. This was our third year attending this class and everybody had a wonderful time. The park is just 50 min away from the Atlanta perimeter, very easy to access any time of the year.
Love this place. Been going for years.Today was my first time on the sweet gum trail though and was very disappointed that it was not well marked. (Several crossovers and crossroads that were both bathed red).Love my state parks! Camping, hiking, boating, day trips. Love that our state parks are also dog friendly (just wish more people would pick up after their dogs and there were more poop bag stations for those that dont plan ahead). So much more.
Nice Campground with spacious sites. Nice hiking trails....but hard to find parking. We came late at night on a holiday weekend and still ended up with a nice 40ft spot on lake! Ended up buying an annual parking pass! We will be back. The lake is down a lot, so we will be back when its full, but still fun!
Great spot for family picnics, boating, swimming, and frisbee. Busy during Summer months, but plenty of spaces off of the main areas for families to discover. The lake is accessible for swimming in many areas. The beach is clean and offers restrooms. The visitors centers offer lake shore tables for picnics and swimming.
This is a nice park with spacious campsites but it would have been nice to know it was under heavy construction. That dump station set up is horrible right now. They have good things coming it appears but as of August 2021, know youll be dealing with construction if you camp here.Update: the improvements are still being made but it doesnt feel as intrusive as before. Probably our favorite state park to visit due to the amount of different activities available.
Enjoyed the hiking trails and scenic overlooks. Great place to bring the family but those with special mobilty needs may find the trails very difficult. The park has a visitor center with various mementos to pick up. Camping is allowed but the park fills up quickly so youll need to book weeks in advance if you want a 2 or 3 day weekend. Week day camping is spotty during peak seasons so youll again need weeks of advance notice. Parking is throughout the park and trails can be accessed at various stages for shorter tracks.
I love Red Top. The area is very clean and there can be much wildlife to be found on the right days. There are a variety of walnuts and other types of nuts here as well for those who love finding their own. Obviously leave some for the animals who live there but you can find some really great tasting walnuts here. I have seen frogs, tadpoles, Chipmunks, squirrels, and woodpeckers here. Bats also are know to inhabit the area. I have been here multiple times and have not paid for parking btw. They have a very outdated system to pay for parking so they really have no clue who paid and who didnt. I think some of us who love mother nature shouldnt have to always pay.
We finally got to see and experience Red Top Mtn Beach today. ⛱️. Not a massive or crowded lake beach at all. Got there around early 10am and there was only 1 family until later toward Noon. So it was nice to enjoy the quiet for a while. Beach itself is relatively clean and the water clear to a pale green. Very cool and refreshing as the air temp climbed to about 90 degrees. Red Top Mtn is also a very nice park and great for exploring with the whole family. Definitely a must see and visit!
This is one of numerous beautiful state parks in Georgia. Red Top is very convenient, right off 75 andthere are multiple exits depending on which area you are going to like the beach, or trails. If you are a nature lover, and desire a little peace and solitude this park is for you. If you love fishing its definitely for you. There are numerous other activities to do at Red Top Mountain. There is also a $ 5.00 daily parking pass.
Pretty summer day for a breezy boat ride. Parking is ample. Streets and entrance were a bit challenging to navigate. Be mindful of coming and going in the dark of night. Streets are blocked off, roads narrow, some turns are sharp. Glad to have friend who lives here to help.
Beautiful lake! Water was semi clean. The facility is not well maintained. No real restroom or water at picnic areas when it marks on the map as restroom. It has only dirty porta potty . Small visitor center parking was full with a dirty restroom. Staff was nice. Many buildings were either shut down / temp fenced in, or looks like it can fall down anytime..
LITTLE KID FRIENDLY REVIEW; All we did this visit was see the main visitor center/gift shop and walk the short trails around the log cabin. $5 to park. Gift shop had neat items and the lady at the desk answered all of my questions thoroughly. We drove down Lodge road at her suggestion for an easier trail. The log cabin area was really neat, vintage equipment out front to see. We (my 9&4yr old sons and I) walked mostly around the waters edge, enjoying the view, rope swing and skipping rocks. It was really a fun day, very pretty views and the kids asked to go back soon 👍 I hope to do some camping at Red Top once it cools off a bit.
Visited here on a school field trip. The park was clean and well maintained, and the shelters and bathrooms were in good repair. The interpretive programs were very well done, and the rangers worked comfortably with 30+ elementary school kids. Everyone had a blast, and Id happily go back again.
Its just a great place to spend some time. Theres not a whole lot of fancy here, which is just why we like it! Its a great place for a walk. Bring a boat in for a picnic/barbecue. Maybe pitch a tent. Or just find a quiet place to sit and ponder on the meaning of your life:) We happened to come across a pioneer day (my label not theirs) which had a great live exhibit of life in the olden days - not why we were there, yet it was a pleasant surprise.
One of my favorite spots, but I live close by and love the water so I certainly could be biased! Ive done 2 trails so far, but mainly do a few loops on the lakeside trail just to follow the water. I enjoy having it to myself much of the winter. Not too many folks out in the cold or rain. Perfect spot for picnicking and swimming with friends and family the rest of the year. Its a great place to catch a sunset down in the lowest cove off the lakeside loop. Last winter I enjoyed measuring the water level on a stump each time I went. In winter you can literally walk straight across this end of the lake to the other side for exploring more of the park. By spring, you have to kayak, swim, or paddle board over. The old cabin is a great spot to rock on the porch and chat with a friend. Many Sunday afternoons you can find me stringing up a hammock with a good book or for a nap. Restrooms are close by and clean, even in the summer. They just added a gate and changed the flow of traffic, so heads up if you havent been in awhile. A lot of improvement going on from the beach to the campground. Cant wait to camp this spring. Be careful and drive slow at sun up and especially sundown (about 7 in summer/fall) as the deer are out feeding. Beautiful to watch them.
A great spot for light hiking, waterside picnicking, and lake swimming not far from Atlanta. There are sometimes jetskis or loud boats, but the further you go from the parking areas the quieter spots you can find. Right now (spring 2021) theres construction going on at the beach, but you can still park and access the lakeside, picnic tables, etc. Normally parking is $5 if you dont have a state park pass.
Covering more than 700 hectares, Red Top Mountain State Park sits on a peninsula of land surrounded on three sides by Lake Allatoona.Twenty kilometres west of Woodstock, its lakeside location makes it popular with anglers, swimmers, and water skiers. There are also plenty of opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and pleasure boating, with vessels for rent in the park.A sand beach makes a pleasant place to relax between swims. The more active will appreciate the more than 20 km of hiking trails to be found here.Manmade attractions within the park’s bounds include the Allatoona Pass battlefield, and the reconstruction of an 1860s homestead.
We went for the Homestead trail of 5.5 miles and it took us about 2.5 hours with a relaxing pace. During February there were some larger pounds through the woods covering the base of the trees which gave the walk a mistic feeling. Parking is 5$ a day or 40 annual, but with limited spots. There are also openings towards the lake in some areas. Few benches along the path so you can rest, pause and take in the nature. Aside that is paid parking the trail is nicer than that at Pine and Kennesaw Mountain.
Rented Cottage 2. All cottages have been updated and are very nice. As if the writing of this post their website is not updated. They still show the old cabins. Until they update their site make sure you call and confirm how many your cabin can sleep. When we booked ours said 4 beds and slept 8. When we arrived there were 3 beds and it slept 6. Luckily, we only had 6. The staff at visitor center could have been nicer. They werent bad, just didnt seem overly excited to see us :) The park rangers are really nice.
We camped over the weekend at a Premium site.. electric and water worked great..site was clean and maintained. Looked like a lot of construction to upgrade the campground was going on but not on the weekends. Nice and quiet stay. Amenities such as small laundry center were a plus and bathrooms with showers were as expected for a State Park. Would definitely stay again when back in the area.
The park is beautiful. Site 19-21 are very small and very rocky and not suitable for RVs. The bathrooms are GROSS- the camp host never came by had to hunt them down and beg for bathrooms to be cleaned. Lots of trash thru out this nook very disappointed for the cost vs. Upkeep.Kids enjoyed rope swing and climbing the near by rocks.
My Parents celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year before my Dad suddenly passed away early Dec. The house in Florida was too quiet so Mom and I drove to Atlanta, and surprised my Aunt on Dec 25th. She and her family took us along on their pre planned trip to Red Top Mountain. We stayed in a fabulous cottage with comfortable beds, well appointed baths, screened in back porch overlooking a marina and front porch overlooking a lake. We spent 5 days playing scrabble, enjoying the beautiful views, loving each other, breathing different air and being grateful for Gods beautiful creation. What a healing gift this was! Gift shop is pricey but nice
This campground is very pretty, nice hiking. Park is on a man-made lake and there are Corps of Engineer campgrounds just down the road. When we were there much of the park was torn up and under constuction. It is not trailer friendly at all. Roads are very narrow and have steep drop offs on the sides. There is a new area with full hook-up and drive through sites which is adequate for any trailer or RV, but beware of the other parts of the park. We have a 30 foot fifth wheel and pickup. We visited in November 2021.
Wow, this was a hidden gem. Decided to stop while driving through GA and very glad we did. There are beautiful trails, so we walked and biked. Then we saw there was a beach area to swim in the lake. We made plans to stay the night in our tent. The kids loved the fireflies and deer.
Fantastic locale for a group hike with mixed experience levels! We were the today so the weather was great, but we definitely worked up a sweat too! Approximately 5.2 miles round trip with some challenging elevations. Beautiful wood green spaces for picnics - which we took advantage of. I only wish I had remembered to pack my binoculars because we saw and heard quite a few birds!!
Great trails for hiking, dog friendly. Beautiful lake views with some wildlife if you are lucky. Ive seen deer, squirrels, birds, and of course tons of fish. A lot of the trail is shaded and you can spend a few hours wandering the trails. They also have plentiful picnic areas if you want to pack some food.
Love the shady sites. Bathhouse needs major renovations. Also, we came in after 5 and had a very frustrating time finding where the green post were. We had to totally come out of the campground and start all over. Our 29 foot trailer made it impossible to make turns. The map is way too small.
I drove thru it to go to Dr. Beautiful!!But people dont go the speed limit I have drive safe and save with state farm! Ive been cursed! The middle finger at me!I have a dash cam now and pull over to avoid the Idiots!plus get their tag #! Less wrecks when you obey the speed limits and avoid the deer!
We had to stop and stretch on our road trip to Ohio and enjoyed this place. Will have to make another trip and do some camping. Not sure why but a lot of the water/ lake was dried up. But still beautiful and made our drive very enjoyable considering we were driving sue to an unexpected death in the family. Will definitely make another trip here.
Even in the cold months when nobody wants to be outside, red top mountain state park is just gorgeous. I like it especially in fall and winter months because its much less people there. Definitely a great place to go for a hike, kayak, bicycle ride, etc. Beautiful sights to see along your way!

2022-01-26Great park for beginner hikers or children. Theres a small paved loop that would be good for wheelchair users or strollers, but the actual hiking is a little bumpier. Still a very easy hike even for a toddler.Beautiful views from the rocks at the lake. Take a picnic and enjoy the view! Lots of easy parking. $5 entry or free with GA state parks pass.

2022-03-09I have camped here twice and it is a very nice park. The campground has lots of trees and spacious, quiet sites. We stayed at site 16 with a travel trailer and it was a little tricky. I would say this site is not appropriate for a RV larger than 17 feet at the most. The usable space was narrow and would be difficult to level for a larger vehicle. The campground is currently undergoing renovations to the bathrooms, yurts, and some sites but this should be in late March 2022. The campground has easy access to the lake and trails. We hiked the Iron Hill trail, which was nicely maintained and had beautiful lake views. Staff and camp hosts were friendly. Check-in and accessing the campground was easy.

2022-05-31The most gorgeous campground that we have stayed so far. Hiking and one mountain bike trail. The lake is beautiful and the water is clear. The scenery is amazing. We will be back! Bring your toys, MTB and paddle boards if you have and you will really enjoy this place!

2022-05-31I’ve been a few times now to this state park for different trails and really enjoy it. I recently did the homestead trail. Most of the trail is very well kept with not too steep of an incline until you get near the middle of the loop portion. The only part of the trail I would mention as a bit difficult is the rocks on the SW side of the loop which might make it harder on someone who has knee or foot issues. I would recommend at least a hiking pole for this portion of the trail.Overall, I enjoyed this as my first hike on the homestead trail and the views of the lake on the north side loop are a great place to take a rest.

2022-05-23With all the new renovations in the camping area, this is definitely one of the best parks around! Campsites 46-50 are especially fantastic as theyre right on a point overlooking the lake.

2022-06-01I visited for the day and its a lovely park. The visitor center is brand new with much to offer. The drive is very scenic and very photogenic.I walked the lake trail which is paved and part of Sweet Gum trail before I ventured to the beach. There were several people with floats & hammocks. The cabin is also lovely and well preserved! The beach looked like a great time, definitely pack your picnic gear & swimsuit. There are places to rinse off and use the restroom, which makes for a great visit. There is a parjing fee of $5.00 but you can also get the GA State Park annual pass for $50.00, your choice!Lastly, ventured down to the marina near the bridge (towards I-75) to snap some shots of boats, kayakers, the beach and of course the bridge. Its worth the visit and be sure to plan to be there all day and relax!

2022-04-13Beautiful. Peaceful. Well accommodated while still keeping nature in mind first. Friendly gate attendant and well stocked/updated welcome center! Enjoyed the quick mile track around a portion of the lake.

2022-01-16Nice, well-kept park. The level of the lake was very low for some reason so it looked weird. Easy, enjoyable trails.

2022-06-22Great area for hiking! Very dog friendly! Family friendly as well. A beach area for swimming, but plenty of other areas to jump in the lake, picnic, explore...

2022-05-27We had a great trip planned, but we had to cancel because of a camper issue and it will be in for repairs for a long time. Out of our control. Now we canceled 4 months in advanced and still charged a cancellation fee and some other fee. Thanks for giving me an extra stab in the back while I am already screwed out of my camping season.
