REI in other cities:
So if you live in Suwanee there is a nice little bike shop near town center that is run by a guy that seems to be a decent enough fellow. The problem is every time I need some work from him he has a 5 week backlog!. So I went looking for a better option and I found it, REI! If I had known how good these guys were before, I never would have gone to the Suwanee Creek shop. These guys do wonderful work, usually in about 48 hours. The prices are great and the staff is extremely helpful. I was also impressed by the fact that the entire store takes COVID seriously. When I can work with people who are genuinely concerned for my safety, know me by name when I walk in the door and go out of their way to be nice to my kids, hey Im sold. I am going to the bike shop at the Buford REI for everything I need from now own! And if you need a bike repaired or assembled, no matter where you bought it, you should too!
The REI staff is always very helpful and todays trip was no exception. The answered all of my questions and even made good suggestions.I had an item delivered to the store and they wheeled it to my car and helped me get it secured safety.Overall, I had a very good visit and I will definitely return.
I needed a climbing outfitter. There are several staff members who are knowledgeable in multiple types of climbing. I walked in wanting to rig for an eventual route or trad climb, and the person who helped me was honest and hasnt let me down. I bought a Petzl harness, chalk bag and sock, and a Verso combo kit. I got Black Diamond shoes and a helmet (Half Dome). I walked out with all of that and a 1-in18,000,000 ownership in REI. ;) It costs $20 and came with a $20 gift card, which I used today to buy tape, a gear binder and a second bag with another sock of chalk.
Nice store, friendly personel... sometime misleading. The ad show discount, the item qualify for discount but... the last line say No Sir, No bikes. What a joke REI. I discover a new trick. Thei promis to give you a 10% discount on any full price item but... they show discounts allready in the price tag and you get noting. Good play REI. Congratulation. Yeah I do not fall for it.
Bought a Bench made knife from this store and the employee opened the case and said they only had the display for the big out I wanted. I bought it then found that the knife I bought was not authentic so buyer beware you maybe paying 200.00 for a fake made from China replica that’s only 30.00
Went to Buford REI today. Brought in a mtb wheel to have the spoke tension checked. No charge along with some good advice. The staff there has always been awesome and Ive been going there since they opened.Dec 2021 - Had some repair issues on a new bike I didnt even purchase at REI. The staff was awesome once again. Explained the issue in detail and I left just feeling good!
The staff was amazing ! Great selection, membership TOTALLY WORTH IT, fun garage sale items, good prices. Really great experience, will return and definitely recommend. Olivia helped get my husband and I into new boots and shared some insider tips to help us maximize dollar.
Came in this store to browse, and were greeted by a very friendly staff, very impressed with covid regulations. then we met Rachel she went above and beyond she knew exactly what I was looking for she gave me a few suggestions and she even offered to put up the tent ⛺ and showed us how to put it together before we even decided to buy, David as well gave us a lot of information, Rachel had some many saving offered to us we ended purchasing a $500 tent on the spot please go see Rachel and David 🙂😉
What a wonderful experience. I bought a pair of walking shoes and Kim was wonderful. She answered questions, brought out no less than five pairs based on what I told her. This was my second visit but first purchase. They sold me on the REI experience. Everyone in the store was great.
Rachel in the Burford store assisted with a bicycle purchase for my 10 year old daughter. She was extremely helpful. Helped me figure out the right size and walked me through features. Then she signed me up to be a member and sold me the bike. And gave me a coupon to come back with my daughter and pick out a helmet. So professional and friendly.
Walking up to the store, I immediately felt welcomed by the two employees sitting outside. Then I went in to pick up an order and make a return and while I know I was one of those annoying and complicated customers, the staff never made me feel like I was. Gio, Jillian, and Olivia were just beautiful people all around, so very kind and helpful and super cool. I just wish I could afford to shop here more often!
Got great service through out the store. Fantastic service for both my wife and I buying hiking shoes. Also great service trying to find a small packable backpack for my wife. Check out was a breeze and got signed up as a co-op member. When shopping for outdoor this will be our first stop in the future.
The BEST customer service around. The employees are SO friendly and are always happy to help you. As someone with lots of questions they are always so patient. I trust them when they recommend a product because its something they believe in and not because theyre just trying to make a sale.Lorrie, Rachel, Kalee are all so amazing and helpful!
Fantastic outfitter. Initially I was reluctant to shop here due to the regular prices on the website. BUT once I shopped once I realized the amazing benifits members receive, and to be honest, REI DOES infact have the best prices if you wait for sales and use the coupons. But the by real Value is the people here. The Employees actually know what they are talking about. They actually use the gear they sell, I will always try to buy from REI first.
Absolutely terrible experience. Ive been a long time customer of REI and have always been happy with their service and products. Today however I was escorted out of the store for refusing to cover my nose with their face mask. I had already had several hundred dollars worth of merch in hand and was still shopping. Prior to being escorted out I had observed several other customers and an REI employee with their noses uncovered. Ive recorded the incident and may post to youtube. This is absolute tyranny and we need to stand up to it. Ill be taking my business elsewhere unless REI can get right.
Walked in at around 823p on a Wed evening with my family. Did some research on some Electra Townie bikes. Wanted to buy 4 of them. 2 adult size, 2 kids (1500+ purchase). Received a cold hello from a lady that was cleaning in the front. Went straight to the bikes, my daughter got on one and we literally stayed in that area for TEN minutes. I watched 3 ladies near the cashier area. No one looked our way, acknowledged us, etc. Even if they were unable to help, they could have came over and advised us on who could help us at another time. LARGE RETAILERS, this is why your customers are going to smaller boutiques and online. The shopping experience is HORRIBLE!! All of these ladies should be FIRED. They didnt even have the decency to say goodbye on our way out. I purposely turned around and watched them when my husband was putting up the cart and unloading my daughter, they didnt even look our way. Plain HORRIBLE. This is the first time I walked into an REI and will definitely be my last. Obviously, do not walk into this place when these employees have checked out to leave for the day, which in this case started at 824p. However, I am a firm believer that poor customer service resides at any hour of the day, just like outstanding customer service. If its in them, its in them, no matter when you walk in. Just plain appalling, hope a regional reviews this and the video tapes from this evening!!!!!
I havent dealt with personnel much at this store, but at the store in Asheville, NC, they were EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGE and helpful. I love the part where you can buy something and you have a year to be able to take it back if it doesnt suit you or doesnt perform. REI products seem to be very good I would recommend.
I literally dont know the first step about camping or hiking but I wanted to get a few gifts for my boyfriend who enjoys the outdoors. This place offers so much its a bit overwhelming. A bunch of the staff greeted me and eventually one employee, Dusty (I think?!!) helped me for about an hour or so pick out a tent. He genuinely was nice, personable and very knowledgeable in the products REI sells. I felt great after the whole experience and look forward to coming back.
REI has gone above and beyond. I did not receive my package for my 0 degree sleeping bag. Either lousy neighbors or mis delivery. I needed it by this weekend, I’m camping in the 20s( and it’s supposed to rain). They no doubted my provided the best customer service I’ve ever had and overnighted the package to get to me by Thursday. (I sent to a friends address so it wouldn’t happen again). OUTSTANDING. I have been a member for 2 years and although some things are cheaper elsewear, I will continue to be an REI loyal customer. I was also sick the sleeping bag went missing. And the staff was so kind, understanding and comforting. I did file a police report and gave them opportunity to investigate. I also called and got really helpful sound advice when purchasing my gear. They helped me with the size of compression pack I would need for my particular bag. And on another occasion the appropriate bag size(small m 5’5 150 pounds). Seriously, spend the extra few bucks and become a member, they always have member coupons. And spend the extra few bucks at the store. It is well worth it
I have a HUGE hike coming up and was struggling like crazy with shoes. I researched everything and read everything and then Kim in footwear took me in an entirely different direction. I hiked 14 miles with my new shoes right of the box and she may have just saved me entire trip. These people know their stuff!
I love REI because it feels more like a community than just a store. I can trust the employees who offer great advice (and stories!) and I can trust any product because REI knows their stuff AND have a great return policy if something doesnt measure up to its promise. Thanks REI!! Youll see me again soon.
I recently had my mountain bike tuned up by Stan at the REI in Buford. Stan was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. My bike was done within a day! Not only that, I rode it today and it was like new. My shifters worked better than ever. I am delighted! Stan is an awesome employee. Im very thankful for him and the work he did on my bike.
Always an amazing experience. Their bike shop (Ran by Stan the freaking man) offers an amazing value for those in need of bike maintenance and repair. They get all my bike shop business because every time I take my bike there I walk away with a bike that feels and responds amazingly.
Everest was an amazing sales associate. He bent over backwards to help me find the right hiking books. He was super knowledgeable about all of the different boots and what I specifically would need for my weak ankles and high arches. Everyone was immensely personable and helpful, I definitely recommend shopping here.
Great store with very good selection of outdoors staff. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful personnel. If they dont carry something, they will actually advise you on where else to get it. The prices are on the higher end, but its actually worth it because of the treatment you get and getting some money back at the end of the year anyway.
I went here on two separate occasions and got some of the best help I could ask for. First was for hiking boots but after talking about what I was doing to lady working the shoe section she told me I needed to get work boots and even gave me a list of places where I could buy them. The second time was for socks and a compass. Even though I didnt buy the compass I still got some amazing help and the associate helping me told me about an app he uses as a compass. The associates working at this location really know their stuff and can help anyone with their outdoor needs.
Fantastic! I was a Boy Scout as a kid, so naturally I have a passion for the outdoors. Now days I mostly go camping and backpacking on my own, but Ive always shopped at this REI for my gear. They truly are incredible, not just the company but the people at this REI!I show up roughly once a month to check out the new gear and do some maintenance on my own. They always have what Im looking for, and if not they go the extra mile to help me find it. Even just in general, the employees form actual customer relationships and I know quite a few on a first name basis. On one occasion, I had mistakenly attempted to purchase a sleeping bag with a coupon that didnt apply - however, simply because they recognize me as a loyal customer, they allowed me to use the discount anyways. Thats real customer service, and thats why I shop at REI!
They helped me through buying a roof rack shoes clothes backpacks and everything down to my mtb and getting me all I needed and nothing more unless asked about very friendly and very clean they also have a dividend program to sign up for called the co op if you join your get 10% back annually:)
Think twice before shipping to store. I placed an order on Monday 12/16 with estimated pickup date of 12/20. I received an email on Wednesday 12/18 that said it shipped but new esitmate was 12/21. The next time I checked it said 12/23. On 12/24 an email came apologizing saying it was delayed. I called and they said it would be there by Friday 12/27. I just called the store and they still have no idea when/if it will show up. Its very frustrating that I cant even get a solid answer. This was to the Buford, Georgia store. UPDATE - pallet was lost but at least they are expediting shipment to house to have in another week. 2nd UPDATE as of 12/30. I changed from 1 star to 3. The expedited shipment arrived today much quicker than promised at no extra charge.
I walked in looking for some mens cycling shoes. They had a small selection but being a novice the team member (jordon) (I think thats his name) In the cycle shop gave me some really good info and in about 15min I learned a lot and had a really good experience here. Would definitely shop here in the future.
Greeted immediately, taken right to what I asked for, associate asked lots of questions to make sure I was making the right selection and offered his personal recommendation. Thanks to Joshs help, we enjoyed a bug-free weekend. Ill be back for more great advice on all things outdoors.
Just took a REI class regarding thru-hiking the Appalachian trail and it was excellent! I learned a lot of things and it also confirmed I was on the right track with things Ive already learned. The only thing I wouldve changed was how cold the room was. I was so cold I had to wrap my scarf around my legs.
Been working out of town and had a Yeti cooler on hold. Went to get it on the 5th and was told my dividend expired on the 3rd. Called membership services and was basically told, too bad for you! That was over twoo hundred dollars! Guess its time to drop the membership!

2022-07-08Been a member since late 90s. Never disappointed with REI including this location until today. Tried to return Patagonia lightweight hemp shorts purchased less than 1 month ago. Told the staff I need a return due to discoloration of the shorts and told her I own a lighter colored same pants and perhaps this is occurrence due to a darker shade shorts. Staff spoke to management because the return doesnt cover wear and tear or misuse. For shorts less than a month old? Kept lecturing me about how the discoloration may be typical for these shorts. If so, this is not a misuse or wear and tear. Furthermore, if so, the return complies with their policy. Asked her if she will process the return. But kept lecturing me about the shorts. Fed up at this point, told her to stop lecturing and process the return. Upon which, she said she will not handle the return. Instead called the manager to process the return. Never in all my years at REI. Hopefully just one odd event; either train the girl right or get her out. Very disappointed to say the least.

2022-02-05Visited this location early Saturday morning in search of Brooks running shoes. I was greated as I entered the store. The person who was in the shoe department was very, knowledgeable and helpful to get the right pair of shoes. Nothing like good customer service. I would recommend you check them out.

2019-06-06Love REI - Ive been shopping there for over 25 years. Not the one in Buford, but the one downtown. Their prices are too high for me now, but its nice to go into the store and look around. They carry mostly stuff for beginning bicycle riders, but thats okay, I still like looking at the stuff. Usually get great service, but it still stinks that even with the 20% off and with my dividend it doesnt make up for taxes or shipping costs if ordering online.

2022-01-13Brooke is the reason I make the trip from in the city to REI’s Mall of Georgia location for all of my Cervelo’s needs. I can’t say enough great things about Brooke. Her expert level skill set, knowledge, and experience ranges across the entire cycling spectrum anywhere from mountain bikes, cyclocross, to road race bikes. She takes the time to explore all possible causes of an issue, shares her findings, and provides resolution. She makes every customer feel important and is a true credit to the REI Co-op. Thank you Brooke!!!

2019-03-03REI is an exceptional outdoor adventure store and this location is well stocked. REI very much inculcated a sense of lifestyle and this location is affirmative of it.The staff is kind and knowledgeable and eager to help. REI is very good about making their prices clear, as well as the discounts members receive.Wheelchair accessible parking, entrances, and bathrooms are here.Theres also a climbing wall and training available. They also have a bike repair, though they dont fix electrical powered bikes.

2021-09-26Just finished shopping at REI Buford getting set up for a bit of a trek tomorrow and I had to come to give 5stars to the staff and even more specifically Mr. Steven. This gentleman went above and beyond, super knowledgeable, friendly and helped relieve my anxiety (as a new rider) in navigating the store. Great dude and awesome staff.
