They have severely gone downhill in the last year. Employees are not wearing masks or are wearing them incorrectly. The serving sizes have become inconsistent, usually skimpy. There’s one girl there with a serious attitude problem who shouldn’t be working a customer service job. And the last time my girlfriend and I were going to eat here, we were going to take it to go, we were rudely told they were closed as we walked in. It was 8:40 when the hours clearly stated the closing time is 9:00. We were given no explanation from the girl behind the counter. When I said to her “I thought you guys closed at 9,” She rudely replied “We’re closed!” It’s so sad because we loved this place. Until things improve we will not return.
Decided to pop in this past weekend. I expected it to be similar in taste to Chipotle, and was pleasantly surprised to find bold flavors and amazing seasoning. Their toppings were fresh, and they definitely arent shy about how much they pile on! In additional to great food, they also have great customer service. Fast, friendly, and dedicated to keeping the place clean.I will absolutely be going back!
Has gone downhill quickly. Skimpy serving sizes and no regular salsa or guacamole today. Servers don’t wear masks in a pandemic. Go to Barberitos or Moe’s where they are more professional and prepared. This was my last visit.
As a past employee of this company, if feel its only right to give my opinion of the restaurant and what I experienced. The company stole tips from the employees and treats them with zero respect. Food was alright but after seeing a comment about stealing tips I would like to reinforce that this is in fact true. My own father came into the restaurant and left a 20$ for us because of how much we respect we gave him. Later that pay period I only received 5$ in tips which made absolutely no sense considering I should of made that from the simple tip my father left me. It wasnt until now I realized tips were being stolen. The service was fine and food was okay, but the morality of this situation disgusts me.
Used to love this place but after today I will never return. Not ONE employee was wearing a mask and there were absolutely no COVID-19 precautions taken. The girl messily put my nachos together and acted like she did not know what she was doing. I asked her why they don’t wear masks, and she replies “I don’t know, this is my first day.” My food is bad because she was poorly trained, I felt unsafe because no one was wearing masks, and the place was a mess. Very disappointed.
Absolutely disgusting atmosphere. Back counters were covered in filth with exposed food. Associates wearing dirty gloves preparing food. Employees not wearing masks while preparing food in the middle of a pandemic. Out of basic items like drink lids, queso, and sweet/unsweet tea.The food I received was cold and was not fully wrapped in the foil so that it touched the counter bare. Not wanting to be “that guy,” I just accepted it and then threw it in the trash when I got home.I really wanted to like this place, but the unsanitary conditions and lack of training by associates has turned me to the point to where I probably won’t return. I’ll continue to go across the street to Barbaritos.
BE AWARE: masks are not worn by all employees here! I just went for dinner and a woman went to help me at the food line with no mask and only donned gloves. When I asked her about it, she went to the back to prep still with no mask and another employee came to help me. If youre concerned about getting covid, do NOT eat here.Granted, the food is good. Thats the only reason I gave 2 stars is because of that and the second employee to help me was extremely kind.
The food here is amazing! Way better than any Moes or Chipotle! I love the burrito bowls and they are not shy with toppings. The customer service was wonderful and we also had the opportunity to talk with the owners and they are such kind people. We will definitely be back to support this local business.
A small restaurant but what is lacking in size makes up in about everything else. The decorations and general mood of this establishment make you feel like youre really in the Southwestern United States of America. Like a majority of Southwestern grills, a line is in place so that everyone can view what theyre picking for their meal. The staff are friendly, listen to customers, and are quick but good at following orders for food. The table you eat at have charging stations so everyone can charge their phones and stay connected.
Amazing restaurant! Loved my experience! Best food I’ve had in weeks! Truly unreal service! If I could live here I would, better than home! If Diablo were a football team, I’d follow them like I do the GEORGIA BULLDOGS, to every home game, and every away game within 150 miles of Athens!
It is very rare for me to write reviews like this, especially having worked food service for many years. However, Diablo’s Southwest Grill had the worst food I’ve eaten in at least 9 years. It tasted like nothing. Literally nothing. At first I was concerned that I had contracted the Novel Coronavirus, but in fact I just learned that there was literally no flavor to be found anywhere in the restaurant. The staff was very kind and the establishment was clean. Despite this, if Diablo is southwest, I beg you to go northeast.
Quality of the food has dropped significantly since COVID. I got a burrito bowl but the steak was terrible. The associates replaced it, but the chicken was horrible too. Rice was watery and everything was extremely bland. Not the experience I am used to. I wont be back for a long time.
This places deserves more business than it gets because you get more food for your money than similar businesses in the area. The southwest grill flavor is always very good. Diablos will always be a top choice for my wife and I when we want a quick meal
We had lunch here today, my 15 year old son & I. The food was good. The staffing needs a lot of help. Whoever is running/managing this place needs to step it up. 5-6 teenagers working, none were over accommodating, the girl with long braids that rung us up, was unfortunately so rude/unhappy. I attempted two times to engage with her for help, she simply did not want to smile or offer any help rather than the bare minimum with taking the money. Restaurant has lots of potential, but unfortunately will be closed in no time delivering this level of service. I’m not sure if we’ll return for another chance @ this place or not.
The pork tacos are awesome. Their ghost pepper cheese is not very hot which is annoying but otherwise the food is great. I appreciate that the salsa bar has small cups of salsa that are already portioned out so you dont have to wait on some sweaty dirtbag who has an extended lunch break to cotaminate your salsa verde. Also the lemons slices are in individual cups so they havent had a thousand nasty fingers on them before you drop them in your water.
My Husband and I went for the first time this weekend, this may be our new favorite burrito place! Great options for the price, we both agreed we would choose Diablos over Chipotle, easy! I was most impressed with their salsa bar! There is nothing more repulsive than a nasty salsa bar, but Diablos pre-cups their salsa for you! No more wait in line for people to dump their salsa in a cup and all over the counter. Their drink/utensil station was also very clean and organized. We will go again!
The lady tonight had professional and extremely polite phone etiquette. They are always super nice! Food is always top notch as well. Why anybody would eat at the competition style restaraunts in the area baffles me. Oh and make sure you get the guacamole!
The staff was friendly and very helpful since it was my first time. But the chips were stale. I noticed the lady pulled out the to go box and she opened it and the chips were already in the box!!!! Like, who does that! Those chips couldve been in there all day/night, I dont know!!!!!!!! I didnt put two and two together until I got home and ate a chip. I was very disappointed.
Read the great reviews and decided to give it a try this past Sunday. I was back in here for dinner the following Tuesday! The chicken is seasoned very well! Big portions of everything! Wayyyyy better than Chipotle or Moes. BEST queso in town hands down! Favorite menu item would have to be the nachos! Will be back in for dinner tonight! That will be my third time this week! Diablos is my new favorite!!
I’ve been going to Diablo’s for years now and the customer service here is great. If you’re looking for a quesadilla, they’re by far the best in town. If you like spice, I highly recommend getting some ghost pepper cheese and peach habanero hot sauce on anything you order.
This was my first time eating at Diablos Southwest Grill. It reminds me a lot of a Moes or Barberitos. However, I like the flavors a lot more. I also like the fact that you could choose a soft shell, hard shell, hard shell bowl, or have them love everything in a big bowl. You have plenty of choices in terms of toppings and can even get it quesadilla Style using a white, wheat, or spinach shell. Overall I really like the place and will be back!
I am so pleased with the food I actually want to review this joint. I have to say this is the best tex mex Ive had. Its god damned delicious, check it out. Fresh, fresh, fresh, medium steak, you cant beat that. Its absolutely fantastic, like an orgasm in my mouth.Blows Chipolte out of the water. I can not express how satisfied I am with this food. This nacho chipolte salsa they have, its like got crack in it or something..
Diablos is amazing. Seriously one of the best burritos Ive ever had. They pack it full and the flavor is to die for. It wont break the bank either
I had a chicken burrito and it was delicious, I liked the spicy sour cream and the fire roasted salsa. Plus Im pretty sure adding guac to the burrito didnt cost extra. For chips, the salsa verde is amazing.One downside was seeing two flies buzzing around all the exposed ingredients, and at least one hovering around the tables. Also the lettuce looked a bit wilted and slimy so I didnt opt for any on my burrito.I didnt notice the mango/peach habanero sauce other reviewers mentioned.
This place beats Chipotle, in my opinion! The habanero peach salsa is absolutely hands down one the best flavor youll put in your mouth! The ingredients are so fresh too!
Food was cold and overpriced. All the meat and cheese on the tacos and nachos I got were barely warm almost ice cold. I do not recommend this place. You would think a restaurant called Diablos would at least have hot food.

Yoooo the best and cleaniest place Ive ever been! The warm welcomes are everything, so many amazing people there to greet you, including the manager! It feels like home. The food is obviously on point👌 so what more can you ask for? I reccomend everyone to go there!!!
Went there for lunch today and it was horrible, food was cold, staff was not helpful when I brought it to their attention. They remade the order but it was still the same temp, cold. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I am reporting the food temps to the health department tomorrow because I feel like the food is not being temped properly
Standard burrito lineup with sweet and spicy flavors. Spanish rice, cooked vegetables, corn salsa, and mango habanero sauce stand out from the rest of the pack. I also enjoy the individually packaged salsa stand.
I love their food. It is similar to Chipotle, but spicier and newer. My only complaint is that they dont add lime juice to their chips.

This place has the worst customer service in the whole Athens area. Its unbelievable the way they were responding to me on my last visit. They messed up my order and thats ok but they way they dealt with it, wasnt! And besides the food was not that great. Id give them zero stars if I could!

Terrible, out of lettuce, out of sour cream. I had to remind the young man to change his gloves. (He had just handled $ from the previous customer)
Management is terrible to the employees. I worked there for 3 weeks , only got paid for 2 . when I came back the next pay period to get my last check , they told me there was no check for me & that they paid me everything & to take them to court . FYI, they also steal the tips . the tips a customer leaves , it goes to the company. Not the cashier working the counter that day

2018-01-07Beats Chipotle due to their continued fall in quality. Willys and Diablo is a tie that you have to decide for yourself. Willys better salsas, less harsh lighting, solid; Diablo slightly more flavors happening and better chips. With that said, let me break down the good and the bad.Good: Food was all cooked properly, place was clean, good flavors with decent salsa options. At the register there is also a spicy vinaigrette which can add a new, extra layer of flavor but BE SPARING with it or itll wreck shop. Decor was decent, seems theyll have beer options soon. I will likely return for a second shot and a different meal option. Charging stations at the table.Bad: Ever so slightly pricier than Willys, probably on par with Chipotle..its close. If I could get out for 20.00 for two with a drink, itd be a real win. The lighting was so bright I felt like I was on stage eating. The three salsas in cups were subpar and could be better for sure.

2018-10-17Had a late lunch at Diablos. I liked the simple, uncomplicated menu. I ordered the 3 tacos (I chose soft) 2 beef, 1 chicken. Selected some standard toppings, beans, lettuce, pico, cheese, and ranch dressing. My lunch partner selected a brisket burrito, well stuffed with assorted fillings, in a spinach wrap. The tacos and burrito were delicious and they have a mild fire roasted salsa that goes great with the warm chips provided with each meal. We will definitely return to sample other menu items.

2017-08-13My first visit to this spot and I loved it. I would say that it is a spot that you must try. This place is definitely in my top 5 restaurants. The staff here was so friendly and attentive to all my needs.

2019-05-04The decor of the restaurant is great. The service is great. The food is not. My son likes it because its very spicy. I think theres more to food than just heat. I dont think their food has any real flavor. I wouldnt pick there to eat and only went because my son was driving. The portions are good and if you like spicy foods, then give it a go.

2020-10-21This was my first time at Diablos. I liked it. I got a Beef Keto Bowl and loved it. Next time I will try the Chicken. The chips and salsa were good. I enjoyed the nice open clean dinning area to eat in. The service was good and friendly. I will be back.

2019-10-29While I had the chicken nachos. The meat is Smokey, but not overly so and very flavorful. The addings are abundant and fresh! They have a spicy sour cream thats a must have no matter what combination you order. Its a ton of food for the money and could easily be shared if youre not starving. Staff is happy and helpful, and the restaurant is clean. Well be back!

2020-11-09Buyer beware. Very unprofessional establishment. First time I have ever attempted to eat at this establishment and will never return. Not to mention that I left before they started my burrito. One gentleman greeted me very professionally and I ordered a burrito. Some joker next to him after I asked for a wheat tortilla said we are out. The guy that waited on me ignored him and warmed my shell. He asked what meat and I said chicken and the joker next to him said they only had lamb. I told him I didnt get his humor and he never apologized. Therefore I left.

2020-12-13The workers here are rude. Every time I place an online order for pickup it’s NEVER ready when I get to the store. Today I was told when I walked in for my orders that it would be 20 minutes because they are short staffed. There was no one else waiting for food and no one in the restaurant?? Y’all need to hire more people and stop leaving your workers feeling that it’ll take them 20 minutes to make a couple tacos when I even ordered ahead so I wouldn’t have this issue. SMH. One girl working today had a bad attitude as well. Never eating here again
