What a gem of a place. A beautiful house nestled in the heart of the Columbus historic district. Within walking distance to downtown and overflowing with charm. My girlfriend and I wanted a romantic getaway and our expectations were exceeded. The owner was very knowledgeable of the area and welcoming to us, From the moment we entered the sun filled cottage we were staying in we knew we had made a great choice. This is a family owned, family run business and the passion really shows. For anyone looking to enhance their stay in Columbus, I would highly recommend.
I would avoid this place unless its and elope wedding. Mama is a joy to speak with and very well spoken but thats about the extent of the service. The communication was poor leading up to the wedding trying to lock in details so we all understood how it would go. It was like pulling teeth to get her to discuss with us the details of how it would go. She assured me they do this often and to let them handle everything. Myself and the best man did not receive our Boutonnières we forgot about them with all that was going on. She replied they were on the table we should have grabbed them but I could not remember everything and she was no help prior to thew event. The venue was beautiful one of two great things I have to say about this venue. we had to fight her to set up extra lights and an arch which she gracefully allowed as long as we didnt disturb the grounds. As bride walked down the music went out for a second or two on her old beat up speaker. It went in and out several times during our dance as well I paused thinking the song was over then resumed, minute later it went out for a good 3 or 4 seconds I stopped and it played again I just called it and said it was good we will stop here, quite embarrassing. The photos were terrible as she used her phone to point and click no editing, tons of shots from back of peoples heads or making bad faces, no photo selection just a mass dump of garbage (photos included) maybe 5-10 good photos and few of them were because we hired a separate photographer and she asked to have us pause for great phots. It would be a travesty if these were all the photos we had received. The food was appalling and the order I admit we got a little confusing in text but over the phone we clarified what our selections were. we received 3 items we thought about adding a 4th for our 81 guest she said it would be an additional 300 to add sandwiches. We choose not to go with the sandwiches but got them in place of the Strawberry Tartlet with goat cheese. By doing this it left our vegetarian guests with nothing to choose from. Menu said Sausages Wrapped in Bacon, served with Mustard Dipping Sauce and as you can see from the photo it was sliced sausage that was it. The food was cold. We informed Mami that we would need several bottles of non-alcoholic champagne as we had many guest that did not drink they did not have any prepared and we waited until she fixed the situation. There was zero guidance from Mami or her staff transitioning from one event to the next she just stood behind people snapping photos of the back of people. When we got to the room late at night there was not one towel in our cottage not one. She lated said all we had to do was call or text and they would have brought some. you can see the text came, yes late but she never sent a response until the next night past 11pm. I must say the officiant was amazing hats off to him. communication was bad to start but I think it really was mami not him. I would really avoid this place if you have more than a few dozen people attending.
Truly enjoyed our unique experience. We wanted a special place to stay for the night and found it here. The “house” is a house and several smaller houses for guests. The homes are not new and polished, but well kept and comfortable. The historical charm is present throughout. This is well worth a visit for something special.
Nice, romantic place to stay, but fell short on everything else. Furnace did not work, but they did have electric heaters in the room. 2 sided gas log fireplace was nice. Strawberry and champagne package was great. No glasses, except champagne, in the room. No coffee maker, tissues, extra pillows or blankets in room. Only 1 garbage can in a big room. Regular cable only, no movie or music channels, that were advertised. No breakfast was provided, and could not reach anybody on the phone that evening, or the next morning, and no one on site. Was met there to check in, then they disappeared. Someone showed up as we were leaving the next morning, about 10am.The room was great, but the service, and amenities were completely non-existent.
My boyfriend and I originally booked a one night stay at this B&B but loved it so much that we decided to stay an extra night. Our host was very kind and made sure we were comfortable. She made some delicious french toast with fresh fruit & some coffee for our breakfast.During our stay we were able to walk to a nearby park with a beautiful river and take in the view from a nearby restaurant. If you’re looking for a little adventure I recommend visiting Providence State Park where “the little Grand Canyon” is located (about 45 minutes from our stay).FYI the park does get busy on the weekends which resulted in us having to wait an hour to get in. The wait was worth it if you’re into nature trails and hiking. We highly recommend this B&B if you’re looking for a nice relaxing getaway.
I had to cancel this reservation. I called before the mandatory time period and spoke to the owner. She was supposed to send a cancellation email which I never received. The day of the original reservation I received another call to verify check in. I told her I cancelled that reservation. She apologized and said she would take care of it. I again asked for an email. I checked my account a few days later and she took the money out and still no cancellation email. This is unacceptable.
We stayed at the Governor Forsyth Suite, and it was amazing and relaxing. The style inside is more old colonial style but it seemed to fit the personality of the entire Inn which was nice.Room was chilly but it came furnished with space heaters and the best part was the gas fireplace. In addition, there was the jacuzzi tub which worked fine.Overall, great suite/Inn and location was a few blocks from the restaurants. Awesome stay and if we didnt live so far we would def visit again.
We just got back from a military graduation and spent 3 nights at the Rothschild-Pound House. We had a wonderful time. Although parlors were closed for renovations and wont be open for a few more days, it did not really impact our stay. This 1870s house is absolutely beautiful! It is not for those who expect perfection where they stay because this old house has its idiosyncrasies. Now that Ive stayed there, I believe this to be the reason for some of the negative reviews Ive seen. I called Mamie to discuss them before I booked, and Im so glad I did. I am happy with our stay. This house has so much history and charm! Kevin greeted us and checked with us daily to make sure we had everything we needed. They were very accommodating with our situation for which we very much appreciated. Mary Dana greeted me each morning I went down for coffee. What a sweet and lovely lady!We walked to Broadway several times and found the town to be as charming as the house. It was close, the food was excellent, and the historic neighborhood is a sight to see.....gorgeous!
We had such a good experience staying here! The house and grounds are so charming and well-maintained. The couple who manage the inn are very friendly and gave us great recommendations on restraunts and areas to visit in Columbus. Our room was very enchanting displaying the familiar Victorian style - spacious, high ceilings, pinewood floors, and a quaint bathroom. I wish I could have toured all the rooms! We had a very pleasant experience and will definitely return.
I admit I might be biased, as this is the house my grandfather and father lived in, but I adored my stay! It was really cool to see the house my family lived in! I visited in 2013 so while things Im sure have changed due to the pandemic, my weekend there was wonderful!
What a charming piece of history in a great location! LOVED the golden suite, complete with over-sized jacuzzi tub, balcony and comfy beds! What a wonderful place! Great location...walking distance from downtown and the river, but nestled in a quiet, upscale neighborhood...absolute perfection for my stay! The staff was welcoming and charming and I will be quick to recommend this B&B to all of my closest friends and family when they travel through Columbus. An absolute gem!
Poor Excuse for an Overpriced B&BThis is my first ever review of any hotel/B&B and I’m compelled to write this as I believe others should be warned of what you could expect if you book a room at the Rothschild Pound House B&B. We made our reservations through the Rothschild website and upon arrival were immediately concerned about the state of disrepair. Overgrown shrubbery, dilapidated furniture on the porch, and a layer of grime covered everything. After check in, a nice gentleman took us upstairs to our rather warm and humid room. He tried to assure us that everything should be OK since he had checked the system that morning. Given the level of our skepticism, we asked for a change which resulted in being moved to the “Gold” room. Be advised the “Gold” room should be renamed. If chipping and peeling paint, a world-class lumpy, sagging bed, and worn out furniture is “gold” I wonder what “silver” might be at Rothschild Pound House. Needless to say, a decent night’s sleep was impossible and at 1:00 am I told my wife we would not be staying for the second night of our reservation. All of this was topped off by breakfast that looked like it was an attempt at a warmed over Costco purchased meal. Given the price you pay per night at this poor excuse for a B&B you would at least hope for a delicious homemade biscuit or muffin. Not… I did talk to the owner Mamie that afternoon while driving home to express our disappointment. While she did say that she was sorry about our experience, she assured us that no one had ever stated they were unhappy with the bed in the “gold” room or the breakfast. She should read her reviews. The cost of our reservation for the second night was not refunded, but we will be receiving a gift certificate to return at some later date. Thanks, but no thanks. I won’t be back.
We spent the weekend at the Rothschild Pound House with a dear friend. The cottage was tastefully appointed with period decor. The main house was open 24/7 for snacks, breakfast. There’s a beautiful front porch for sitting & enjoying the tranquility of the area. The entire staff was most welcoming, courteous & helpful. We’ll be back! Thanks Mamie, Kevin and entire staff.
Our room was large with a large bathroom with a jacuzzi. It was lovely, but, we believed from the website we there would be a breakfast and after we asked we found out that it was a serve yourself continental Breakfast of store bought muffins yogurt elc. It was too expensive to not have a breakfast. But it did have a refrigerator and a microwave. the location was good the neighborhood lovely. I would not suggest this for a first time bed and breakfast experience.
I travel a great deal due to my career. Whenever my travels take me to Georgia, I make arrangements to stay at the Pound House. If you are in search of Old South elegance, charm and comfort, this is the place for you. Every detail is attended to, from the fresh flowers to the morning breakfast. I am super picky about cleanliness and this place is always immaculate. Because I travel so much, I like my privacy. This is always afforded me at the Pound House. Whether it is sitting in the den sharing a glass of wine in the evening or working from a desk in my room, the Pound House is my home away from home on the road. Featured in Southern Living, host to a wide array of celebrities, the Pound House is one of Georgias getaway gems. And it is within walking distance of much of the coffee shops and bars and theaters downtown. Truly one of the Souths best B&Bs.
The air conditioner saved us from the hot and humid weather. The kitchen had a fridge, little stove, dishes, coffee maker and the space was great. We loved the bed comfort and cleanliness. I had a nice time with family. The downside was the wifi was non existent, the bedroom television was smaller than a laptop screen and far away so it was very useless. The whole place was old and you could tell it has experienced some foundational settling because the none of the doors were closing properly. Whoever did the shower pan didnt plumb it right, but the tub with the Jets was nice. It took quite a while to get towels and stuff. So if youre just in town with family and you need a break from technology and are strong enough to close those difficult doors then this is the place for you. If you need wifi, television, doors that work, and perhaps a less comfortable bed then you can choose a mainstream hotel. The place has a nice touch to it, and despite the name, there isnt anything weird going on. No one is getting pounded. Lol. I cant complain too much because a dear friend paid for the stay, but I leave this for future guests. Its a great pad for hanging out with friends and family. Owners if you are reading this, get the doors adjusted man. Also, there are some really easy ways to get WiFi into your establishment. I know the place is old and there is only so much you can do, but just a few details would make this place flourish. It has great potential.
Worst money spent :( but nowhere to goAs a Soldier few years ago, I had a great experience here. I was a faithful patron and came before and after my deployments to regroup and refresh. After spending four days moving out of my home this week with very little sleep, I chose to come here to recuperate with my husband at the cost of $175 per night for two nights because I knew that we would have great service in a serene environment. The room I wanted was unavailable because they moved someone else in it. We ended up in the Thomas suite.Summary of my stay:When I went to bathe, the jets pushed out black soot (see photo)No coffee in room, had to request itReceptacle on the counter didnt work. Put the coffee pot on the floor next to the bed.Requested no pork for breakfast, got baconI found a long hair in my croissantI put a DO NOT DISTURB sign on my room before I left for a few hours. Someone came in the room, left coffee and towels, cleaned out coffee machine but left the bathtub DIRTY. My husband cleaned it because I was too upset to call.NO CABLE TV to watch. Turned it on and the screen said Not Authorized. Was told that WOW was working on it and it was in and out all day. As of 11 pm it was still off.Needless to say, I spent over $390 for a two night stay and am sad and disappointed not only at the service, but at the level of care with which Rothschild Pound has resorted to maintaining its rooms. Matt and his wife seemed to be nice people but the overall stay was very disheartening and my complaints were redirected several times to the owner being on vacation, and no compensation was ever offered for the poor facilities. If we werent so exhausted, defeated and temporarily homeless we would have left the first night after the bathtub incident.
Here is the review my husband posted on Orbitz for this terrible place before the owner somehow managed to have it removed in less than 24 hours: Maybe my worst experience ever. I would like to know if there is any way to get a refund. The listing is fraudulent - in no way is this a 4 star hotel. First and foremost, there was no heat. The room was freezing. The temperature reached 34 degrees that night. We woke up shivering. We could not shower in the morning due to the lack of heat. A freezing cold toilet is also difficult to handle. The staff added two space heaters, which are not safe on carpet btw. There is a coffee maker, but no coffee. The room reeked of mildew. I have asthma, and could not tolerate this. My inhaler had to be used frequently. Cobwebs were all around. The keys I was given did not fit the lock for the door, so we could only lock the room from the inside. The wifi barely works. This is extremely inconvenient if you have any kind of business to attend to. Other issues include parking. The listing says that there is free parking, but it is street parking, and it is very difficult to find due to the busy restaurant across the street. The listing says TV with digital channels, which is true, but please note that it is a 30 year old Zenith. The listing mentions that front desk staff can assist, but as soon as I was shown the room, the staff were gone for the night and the office was locked up tight. The listing also mentions a bar and a lounge - these do not exist. This listing should removed from Orbitz immediately, and I demand that I be refunded.
(spiders)Not a great experience for a first time stay at a bed and breakfast. Not all do to the Inn but also from the owner and her lack of customer relation skills. I was unsure of the neighborhood when we first arrived but after going inside I was more at ease and thought it was a charming place. First thing we noticed when going upstairs to our rooms was the difference in temperature. It was really warm... and Im a cold nature person. Matt, that works there did check the thermostat and Im sure put it as low as it would go but it didnt do much to cool the upstairs off. And the window unit in one bedroom didnt either. I asked if there were any fans that could be brought into the room but Matt didnt seem to think there was any at the house. I dont like trying to sleep in a hot room if I can help it, especially when youre paying over $800. for it. When my mom went to open her bathroom door the knob completely came off. Okay, I can handle that. What I couldnt handle was the baby spiders I found in my bed. I always check the beds anywhere I stay, but this is the first time I found anything that concerned me. That can be seen with the naked eye anyway:). It was five baby spiders, a bit smaller than a ladybug. Told our host, and checked the room my mom was to sleep in, found 1 baby spider on the pillow and didnt bother looking any longer. Spiders + kids = crying and Im not staying here! Needless to say I wasnt happy about it either. But I kept my composure and with much assurance from Linda , who was our main host, that this had never been an issue before and that there were no bed begs, we decided to stay. She had us stay in a larger room downstairs so it was much cooler and brought us a blowup mattress, . There was a 3rd room upstairs we could have stayed in as well, but being it was hot and that seemed to be where the baby spiders seemed to hatch from, we decided to avoid it all together. The rest of our stay was fine, and needless to say we found no spiders in the downstairs bedroom. I asked for the owner to get in touch with us when she came back from vacation and after a couple of follow up calls she responded back. I told her what happened and I was kind about the situation and did ask if we could get a partial refund since we only stayed in 1 room for 2 nights and not 2 rooms for 2 nights. I wouldnt say she was ugly to start with and not sorry at all, but the comments that came from her mouth where all debating. Like maybe they were mosquitos. No, I know what spiders look like:/, then I sent her the pictures I had taken of them. Another excuse was that she had lost money already with our stay because we changed our dates from May to July. Im sorry but we gave 13 days notice before we changed our dates and they said that was plenty advance notice and theyre rooms had not been all booked. She had also said that summer was their slow month, and we were the only guest there the week days we stayed. So I dont think we caused her any monetary loss there. The end of that conversation she told me to check back with her in October, thats her busier season and maybe she could afford a partial refund then. So Ive waited patiently, not really expecting anything, but to see if she would do the right thing. When I called she new who I was and wasted no time on telling me why she felt like no refund was due. Just very short , unapologetic, insincere, and defensive. I told her I would rather her say she cant give a refund, but be genuinely sorry that our stay started terribly.
I made reservations a month ago for a dining out (Army formal). I called the hotel directly instead of using a booking website and gave them my card #. They called the day of our arrival, only 2 hours before we arrived to tell us they canceled our reservation. I had received a new card with a chip in in and had a new card #, so when they ran the card it didnt go through. Instead of contacting us, they just canceled us because they had overbooked and needed to give our room away. We know, because when our friends arrived the hotel had given away their room as well and had to give them a different room (thus kicking someone else out). The hotels reservation system doesnt stay up-to-date with the booking websites so they overbook. We had no where to stay because there was a gun show and a convention in town. Completely ruined our weekend. They were unapologetic about what they did to us and rude when they called. I asked why they ran our card before we checked in, and asked what would have happened if I wanted to pay cash upon arrival or pay with a different card. The lady just said that my card didnt work so it didnt matter.
I had the most wonderful time. My partner booked us for two nights for my birthday. I have to say Marty was most helpful, professional, and basically the face of this business! Any everything needed he was right there! I would gladly refer all of my friends and colleagues to stay here and at any other location they may have! Thanks Marty for all that you do!
Exactly what you should expect from a southern B&B. In a historic district just off the busy downtown area, sits this beautiful house. Romantic rooms, excellent service, and a wonderful family staffing this home away from home. Breakfast is solid and they take detailed care of dietary preferences and food allergies including Celiacs. Looking forward to my next visit.
Anyone staying temporarily or visiting anyone near Fort Benning? Many of times when traveling from base to base we look for the hotel with the best deals. We dont always think to look outside of that box and go for chains/corporate type accommodations because we know the name. This weekend we had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful bed & breakfast. Booking was easy with a phone call, the room was stunning, and breakfast was delicious. Matt met us when we came in around 2 am to give us our key as well as show us the house a bit. He was a call or text away and always responded when we had a question. Mary made us delicious breakfast and made sure we were taken care of each morning leaving with full bellies. Now, let me get to the part that separates this B&B from staying any where else.Coming down to Fort Benning was not for us or a work related trip for Iggy. It was to see his brother (and in the process we adopted his battle buddy). They werent staying with us, but Matt and Mary made sure these two boys knew they were welcome. Mary made them a good home cooked breakfast both mornings. She treated everyone like family. Matt and Mary made this Stay feel like we just stayed the weekend with family. They made all four of us feel welcomed and wanted. We could have easily stayed at a hotel. But, I am glad we didnt. Because, I guarantee no hotel is going to do all they did. Customer service is something they (hotel) can provide, but they are not going to make you feel like youre home with family with a home cooked meal, hugs, and good company. This place will and youll leave wanting to come back. Thank you to the owner and staff at this amazing establishment for a memorable visit. 💕
My wife and I wanted to go someplace different for our anniversary, we thought we would go down to Warm Springs/Columbus Georgia area and we always like to stay at a nice B&B. After some looking online we came across the Rothschild Pound House B&B. The pictures and the description on their website are not what we got when we checked in. This place has some issues, this was definitely not worth the price of $195 per night, thankfully we only booked for one night. Upon arrival there was no one to greet us, there was a sign that said please call this number and someone will come help you. The lady that came was very enjoyable to talk to and informative. She took us to our suite(The Edward Lloyd Thomas Suite) and we thought this is it?? The two person shower described on the website was more like a shower in an RV !, we ran out of hot water for the shower in 10 minutes, the steam shower directions were to let the hot water run for 3 minutes then activate the steam leaving you with 7 minutes of hot water. The blades were about to fall off of the ceiling fan in the bedroom( it made a terrible noise), there were light bulbs burned out in the light fixtures, there was not a coffee maker, wet bar, honor bar, snacks(as described on the website). The only amenity that was in our suite was a corkscrew. No cups, no glasses. It was disappointing to say the least. The bed was nice. We do not recommend this place for a romantic getaway. There was no insulation in the walls as we were awakened in the night by people hollering and playing a guitar in the middle of the night. The breakfast was bland and there was no choice of breakfast( all other B&Bs we have stayed at have always offered choices at breakfast), there were no hors douvres being served upon check in. It was not worth the money to stay here, we will never stay here again nor would we recommend this place. We were told that several famous people have stayed here but they must have gotten better service and amenities based upon their clout with Hollywood. We have had much better amenities at a Hotel. The main house was neat with the art work on the walls and the antique furniture. The website is misleading and this place is not what it says it is on the website. If you are going to pay upwards of $200 a night , you should not have to ask for anything.
Very Poorly Managed...Beware their Refund Policy! We booked our stay here 3 weeks before arrival to help a family member look for rentals. They were moving and he was starting a new job in Columbus. We were going to stay in the Marriott (which we should have) but it was booked. Long story short, he was hospitalized and needed emergency surgery. I called Gaye Willoughby in Guest Relations, 7 days prior to our arrival, that we had to cancel, so she could rent the rooms to another, and hoped she would understand the circumstance and refund our money or some portion of it. She was so sweet and understanding and said she would call me back. Never did. I sent her a Doctors note, the information of the person he was interviewing with, so she could co-o berate my situation, and again left several more messages. She never had the decency to return the call or communicate in any way. On June 9th at 4:22 pm I got a call from the Inn asking me when was I checking in. I reminded them of my correspondence with Gaye and my many phone calls and email messages, the gal said oh yes now I remember, so sorry hope he feels better. Well, they billed us anyway. That is a terrible way to to business. He has a long road ahead of him and he sure could have used that money to pay medical bills.
I have stayed at the Inn twice now, once in the main house with family and once in a cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed the charm of being in historic home instead of hotel. And breakfast was a treat! We also enjoyed being able to walk a couple of blocks to the River Walk, it is such a cool place. We look forward to going back again!!
Owner is attempting to have local government shut down the current airbnb market because they can offer cheaper rates. Just because you cant adapt to changing times doesnt mean you should hurt those who do. Its not the rest of the worlds responsibility to keep you in buisness.

2022-03-26We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rothschild- Pound House. We stayed in the Governor Forsyth suite which was quite unusual and special. The jacuzzi was wonderful, we loved that kitty soap, and the bed and pillows were so comfortable! We appreciated how responsive Mamie, the owner, was to our needs and how she worked with us to address any concerns that came up. She is currently in the process of remodeling the main house so you might be aware that there is not a full breakfast at this time. However, she gave us the choice of a continental breakfast or a voucher to go buy breakfast on our own. Thank you, Mamie, for sharing your lovely home with us. We hope to come again.

2022-06-13Our experience was a mixed bag. We arrived to the B&B a bit early, and we were told the room wasnt quite ready, which was fine. It still wasnt ready almost 40 minutes after our check-in time, but we did finally get the key. The room itself was pleasant enough, but there were no trash cans and no pillowcases on the bed. We were told wed get the pillowcases, but I had to call at 8 PM otherwise we probably wouldnt have had them. The most frustrating part of our visit was the fact that we were told nothing about breakfast and we couldnt get into the main house or reach our host to ask about it. I called pretty consistently from about 8:30 AM through 10:30 AM and got voicemail each time. The suite we stayed in was very comfortable, and our host did try to give us recommendations and make our stay more enjoyable, there was just a lack of communication that made the experience less enjoyable.

2022-04-15Worst experience ever. Two months ago I made a reservation at this Bed & Breakfast for this week, and chose one of the cottages located across the street from the main house. The morning we were arriving, the owner called and mentioned that they were renovating that cottage and that she had moved us to the one next to it. We should have been told beforehand; poor communication on her part. She said that the cottage was the same size, but the one we had chosen was advertised as sleeping four and this one only slept two. She said we could go directly to the cottage; no need to come to the main house. The cottage needed TLC but I am not getting into details. Shortly after, we walked to the main house to meet her and ask a few questions but the door was locked. I called her and she did not answer. I texted her and she said she was not there but we could text, so I started asking my questions mainly at what time is breakfast and also the cocktail hour that they advertise. She said she was doing neither because they were renovating! A B&B that does not offer breakfast??? We definitely should have been told this beforehand! A simple email stating this would have been the right thing to do. I texted that to her and said we were very disappointed and as we continued to text, she came out of the house; so she was inside the entire time and had said she was not at home. I hate when people lie to me; totally wrong. One of the reasons we love staying in B&Bs is because the owners are proud of their place and they are hospitable; NOT here. She became rude and we left. Very disappointed of the interaction and total lack of communication. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else!!!

2022-03-24Do not book this place. It was a complete disappointment. For the price, the property is filthy and theres no services at all. Ran out of hot water, no wifi, TV wasnt working, no one on the property to help us, definitely no breakfast and I would not want it anyway due to state of the property. I try calling and no answer. We booked for three nights and I was out of there the next morning. One of the worst experiences Ive ever had with a hotel thus far. A hostel would have been better than this place. Stay away!!! Everything they claim to offer was a lie. Stay away!!! The curtains are dusty and ripped. The room has a funky smell. The stand up shower has mold under the metal rails. Im sure there was more disgraceful things i could find but for my peace of mind, I shut my eyes, packed my belongings and left. I just dont want anyone to have to experience this awful place thats claiming to be a 4 star hotel. Maybe 100 years ago but not now. Stay away!@!

2022-03-24I had the pleasure of staying in the purplish pink G.B. Willoughby Cottage. Very spacious and beautifully decorated. The owner, Mamie, is southern hospitality to the core. Even got to attend a writers group at the main house. Look forward to staying there again!

2022-06-06I have stayed in hotels, homes, b&b’s, etc. from California to Paris and I can guarantee you this was the absolute worst experience I’ve had as far as amenities and service. No trash cans in any rooms, the tv’s were junk…I had to go purchase our own toilet paper and wash cloths. Oh and no breakfast or breakfast vouchers to be had or offered. Strangers sleeping on the couches and eating our food out of the mini fridge downstairs. Roaches on parade. That’s just for starters.

2022-03-12I had my wedding here a few years ago. The wedding and the rooms were a wonderful experience. The innkeeper was extremely helpful and accommodating. The rooms and cottages were beautiful, and it was one of the most memorable places I stayed in. I didnt give a higher rating because the owner needed to provide a refund for two charges to the same hotel room. It took this woman a ridiculously long time to provide the refund: 3 months! I would expect 3 weeks tops. She acted like she didnt know what the rate my wedding guest paid, was very relaxed about the process, acted like she had all kinds of time, and was in no hurry. I finally sent her a nasty email; that got her attention, she processed the refund, and made an attempt to smooth everything over with me. I didnt buy it. After this incident, I hold business and retailers accountable for their actions and promises. Besides that, I did find the actual wedding and reception a nice experience and it made for a beautiful wedding. I hope the Southern hospitality increases to meet the atmosphere of the inn. If this incident had not happened, I would have given a higher rating.

2021-03-23This place has the softest sheets I have ever felt. They are like melted butter. The rooms have a unique character about them. Makes you feel like you stepped back in history and I found myself wondering about the people who lived there. The bathrooms are all modernized, big wonderful bathtubs, separate showers and very clean. I was just visiting a friend who is employed there that day but I will be going back to spend a weekend very soon. It is a perfect place for a nice quiet romantic getaway, although they do have entertainment on the weekends most of the time. Personally, I just want to go back to take a long hot soak in those big bathtubs, wrap up in the fat fluffy towels and crawl in those fabulous sheets & sleep like a baby.
Review №10
2021-10-17I do not recommend staying here. I wish Id looked at reviews before booking, but I didnt. If you are reading this and havent booked, please look at the low ratings and related reviews. Some are old, but they are still accurate. The reviews related to the defensiveness of the owner with regard to feedback are on point. When I tried to give feedback, she had an excuse for everything and told me she didnt like my attitude. Of course this was after I spent 45 minutes calling her and waiting on the porch to turn in keys since the door to the check in/out area was locked and there was no staff available, even by phone. This was the case throughout our three night stay. Its like we were on our own and had to catch up with her when we could. We tried going by at different times, always locked. We tried calling and texting at different times. It was hit or miss. There seemed to be no dedicated staff. And in the hospitality industry, the guest should not have to ask for basics. Not only were basics not provided, the owner actually said we shouldve asked for things. At this price point, no. She made it seem like I was being unreasonable. But after reading reviews going back 3, 4, and 5 years I know its not me. Its the poor service level and neglect of property at this business. And for the excuse that the pandemic caused staffing issues and lowered the level of the property upkeep, many of these comments were pre-pandemic. Dont stay here. It costs too much for the bad experience and the negative attitude about feedback. After hearing about our experience, it wouldve been a good time to refund at least one night, but that wasnt offered. Again, I recommend that you find somewhere else to stay.
