We chose spot 56 & 57 we were with family. Our spot backed up against the marsh which normally would make this spot nice. It is very private and spacious. It has a pad about a foot of the ground for tent set up. On the negative side. Our spot 56 has a never dry murky water spillage, Going through our site 24’7. We are Floridians so we are used to the humidity of Georgia weather. However a storm hit us on our first night. All i have to say about it is “rough!”
Stopped in Savanah with teens driving through to Florida. Big hit. Paid $5 to park and it was well worth it. We went to the gift shop and they had some cool trinkets. The ranger advised us to take the short trail behind the gift shop and the teens loved it - taking lots of selfies;) beautiful setting.
My family visited in June of 2022 and had a wonderful experience. Jackson, who was working with the snake and turtles, was very kind to our 3 kids and let us know he was about to feed the snakes. We got to see the process and ask him any questions we may have. Thank you Jackson!
The site we reserved was ok, it actually said it had power and water on the web site, that was one of the reasons we rented the pavilion for our family birthday get together. When we asked what was up with no power they said there is no power or water but there are outlets and a water line but none of them work. They said that they dont understand why the web site advertises both when they dont offer them. I was told that Im not the only one but just another in a long line of people who have asked about it. If so many people have asked dont you think they might have changed the ad on their web site offering pavilions. Came across several out of order toilets and urinals as well kind of disappointed in the up keep of things around the park. Need to up their game for me to return.
I’ve been living in the Savannah area since 2008 and finally made it out here to check out the trails and scenery. This place is dog friendly, so highly recommend bringing them along. Came out with my mom and she wore her feet out walking most of the trails. They have restrooms spread out, some of them literal outhouses. The only negative I can report is the toilet paper. Please bring your own. The stuff they stock is powerful enough to descale a fish. I hope to one day recover and come back for another visit.
Beautiful early fall day. Sunny, 78°F.Trail is clean and work on some of the boardwalks have been done.Park was packed with Visitors, but even so, they were well spaced on the trails so you were not crowded. Noticed there was damage to one of the Pioneer huts most likely due to some recent storms that passed.Very Nice State Park inside the Savannah limits.. plenty of powered camping sites, Some nice areas for Pioneer Camping. Awesome picnic Areas with playgrounds and bathroom facilities near by.Biggest complaint is there is 0 Primitive sites available. Plenty of space to add a dozen or so primitive camp sites near the pioneer sites. Would need to drive nearly an hour an a half to the nearest state park with primitive sites. Which is a drag since I have this beauty literally right out our back door.Love the park, but due to no primitive camping... deducted 1 Star
Pretty nice spot for a walk. Here with my family and it took us about 2.5 hours to walk all the trails. The receptionists are very nice; if you got questions, just go ahead and call in, they’ll help you with all the questions you got. A lot of folks are here for camping with an RV. The daily pass is $5 per vehicle.
We spent the weekend at Skidaway Island State Park, south of Savannah GA. Our campsite reservation was made months ahead. These big roomy and easy to pull into sites get taken quickly by the large RV’s since water and electric are available and a few even have sewer hookup. Nice level gravel is a plus as well. The fire pit /picnic table are standard. The park also is popular as a day trip and the parking is generous and the Welcome Center is very nice. The gift shop is loaded with stuff to tempt all ages. Bikes are available to rent. There are miles of trails. It took us several hours to hike them all. Leashed dogs are permitted on the trails. Bikes are not permitted on the trails but the campground is big enough to get in a 45 min ride. We did not bring our kayaks so I m not sure if there is a launching area, but it looks like a great place to be on the water.
Wonderful campground with large spaces for campers. There is a new office complex. The bath houses are very nice with several stalls for disabled. There is a grocery store and banks near by. The park has several hiking trails that wind through the salt marsh. We will return. This campground is impossible book less than one year out. The best way we have found to book a spot is by waiting for someone to cancel. We found that the Campcellations app makes it easy to grab a site when someone else cancels.
The fam stayed here in one of their tiny cabins recently, and i must say we were pleasantly surprised. the loft was perfect for our 5 year old, and the rooms were spacious with the vaulted ceilings. the park itself was nice, although it was hard to know where any one-way roads were since they werent marked.the playgrounds all seemed new and had some interesting equipment! not a bad thing, our girls actually liked the new and weird designs. the trails were clean and wide. the only downside, which is hardly the fault of the campground, was the bugs were everywhere. who knows if they spray or not, but they were bad this time of year (early august)
This park is full of unique trails! You can literally walk on a boardwalk over the marsh without any tree coverage one moment and be nestled in the trees walking on sand the next. There are around 6 miles of trails here (I think) and I’ve done a few. They are all pretty cool and one even offers a lookout tower to get a better view. I’ve seen some pretty cool plants here and always lots of different birds. This is a great place for a walk but definitely bring water and start early if you go during the summer months. It gets blazing hot!
Absolutely beautiful campground with so much scenery and the perfect respite from Savannahs bustling downtown area. The sites are spacious and I recommend a premium site with sewer connections if youre lucky enough to find one available. Take the journey to the outlook tower and keep your eyes peeled for the abundant Fiddler crabs everywhere. My kids were enthralled watching them at work in the sand. We had a couple deer saunter through our site one evening as well. This is our go-to spot when visiting Savannah and on our most recent trip (July 2021) we got to see the beautiful new visitor center and gift shop! This park is a must visit!
What a fantastic slice of paradise. We love trying new walking trails with our pup Louie. This one is beyond perfect. We walked the Sandpiper Trail and the Avian Loop. Both were picturesque and peaceful (except when a family on bikes went through making noise with the youngest on an electric bike; not sure why they were in an area that says no bikes). We saw a few birds, some crabs, and even a little lizard. It was a great walk and we definitely will be back for the Big Ferry Trail Loop. The park was easy to find and parking is only $5. Well worth it especially with the amazing upkeep they do here.
A tiny but gorgeous state park that’s well worth the visit! I converted my poor road bike into a temporary mountain bike on the Big Ferry Trail and while I don’t necessarily recommend doing that, the trail and its information posts were cool. Bring bug spray. We visited on a Thursday afternoon near the end of May and barely saw anyone on the trail. And the visitor/interpretive center is new and shiny!
While not one of the oldest Georgia state parks, it is nonetheless a coastal gem. While it does not have a beach, it does have miles of hiking trails with historical and cultural interpretive signage. The campground is well maintained but fills up frequently so plan well in advance. Well worth a visit.
This is an absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking park! There are two really nice trails that give you wonderful views of the island marshes, salt flats, forests, gator ponds, and so much spanish moss!! I loved it so much I came here twice during my trip to Savannah! I highly recommend this park to anyone traveling to Savannah! There is also a lot of history and tons of wildlife, and they have a great gift shop and an interpretive center with live reptiles and fish!
Great place to see many kinds of birds. We saw several painted bunting here. Saw wild flowers and blooming cacti. Beautiful trees with iconic Spanish moss. Great walking trails with exits onto the water to sit and relax. Main visitor center was clean. Cost was cheap for all day pass/parking.
Had a great time here. The campground is well shaded, pretty, and oddly layed out. The oddity makes it charming and feel like youre more spaced out from each other. Some sites have sewer, mainly the middle sites that are pull through. Some of the side sites are tight to get an RV in, but once you do, its quite beautiful. The park is close to some great places on Skidaway and very close to Savannah. We will definitely stay here again.
Just stayed for the first time in our new camper. Hosts Chuck and Robin Greer were AMAZING!!! They helped us set up our new camper, showed us all of the tips and tricks, even let us borrow fire wood so we wouldnt have to go out that evening. Did the same thing our last day there - showed us everything to do. They were lifesavers, and we will definitely be back. Thank you Chuck and Robin!!!
World class nature trail! Not to miss. The scenery is so gorgeous I thought for a moment I am transported to some tropical resort here. It was incredible how many eastern blue birds we saw there. The trails are well marked, well maintained, and clean. Different loops let you choose the distance you want to walk. On mid December, the trail was almost free of mosquito and really dry. The carefully maintained boardwalks show how much the locals must love this park.
All of the park staff went above beyond to help the us. We rented bikes and the trails are full of wildlife. The gift store is full of interesting items. I was able to get a vintage looking sticker to add to my camper collection. The camp sites are large and the neighbors are not on top of us like the Tybee island Rv park. Happy to be here. 🤗
Skidaway island has a very beautiful park and the camp sites are large, providing plenty of elbow room. There is not a bad site anywhere in the campground. We would like to express our appreciation to our extremely helpful camp hosts; Chuck, Robin, Leland and Bambi. They kept the campgrounds neat and the bath houses and laundry facilities almost antiseptically clean. We were never concerned about having to use a dirty restroom or shower. We were without personal transportation for a week, because of a mechanical failure, and Chuck and Robin went out of their way to ensure that we were able to get to the grocery store and made it possible for us to empty our black and gray water tanks, when needed. Leland and Bambi would stop by every so often to check on us and offered their assistance if we ever needed it. Thank you to all four special people.
Gorgeous place. Late March and very few folks on the trails. Zero bugs. The Big Ferry Loop takes you out into a lowland paradise. An observation tower lets you look out over Skidway Narrows and the egrets hunting in the shallows. Cant help but think of the bounty this areas Native American inhabitants enjoyed, living in harmony with this land for thousands of years.
What can I say about this wonderful park. It is just beautiful. RV sites are large and private. Restrooms are new and very clean. The hiking trails are easy and beautiful...about 5 or 6 miles in total. You can rent kayaks as well. And to top it off, I was able to ad a Painted Bunting sighting to my Audubon Life List. I will definitely return to this park!
After camping at many state parks in GA, this one has been my favorite experience so far. The campsites are huge, so private and shaded by trees; you get so much room without being on top of the next site. Feels like you’re right in the middle of nature. The entire park is well maintained, and the biking trails are wonderful. Don’t go without a bike! The whole place has great phone reception everywhere - rare for a state park! Skidaway Island State Park is beautiful, relaxing, and inviting. The perfect place to skid away and unwind. Will be back!!
This place is awesome!! So quiet and peaceful. Everyone is so friendly and the sites are spacious. One suggestion would be to add at least 2 sheppards hooks to each site so you hang birdfeeders, etc. This is not a party destination just a really relaxing place where you barely hear your neighbors talking and no one is blasting music. Definitely a place for bird lovers!!
We loved Skidaway. The sites are very large and well spaced. Its clean and very shaded with large oaks. The bathhouse had 2 showers, 1 of those being for the handicapped. There are 2 nice washer/dryers in each laundry area which is in the same building as the bathhouse. Some sites did offer sewer. The dump station was easy in/out.Skidaway is 17 minutes from downtown Savannah and within 6-7 minutes from Kroger. We look forward to returning.
Quiet place to camp and spend time with family. Staff is friendly and they have a new visitor center. Trees are lined with Spanish Moss. They have areas for kids and nature trails. Very relaxing and quiet place to explore and enjoy 😉😎😊☺😀👌👍👍👍👌Please go check out your local Parks and Camping areas nearby and enjoy the outdoors with love ones.
Wonderful campground with large spaces for campers. There is a new office complex which just opened. The bath houses are very nice with several stalls for disabled. There is a grocery store close and banks. The park has several hiking trails that wind through the salt marsh. We will return
Skidaway Island State Park is a beautiful state park, quite near Wormsloe Historic Site. They have a gorgeous, new visitor center with lovely staff and tons of stuff to buy at the gift shop. I unfortunately did not have time to hike any trails at the time, but I plan on going back to do so. Definitely stop by this lovely park if you have the chance!
Went there because they claimed to have ADA accessible walking path. We didDidnt get 10 feet in the loose pea gravel before my wifes Gogo scooter was stuck. Couldnt move without her getting off while I picked up the rear and drug it back to solid ground. Not friendly to handicapped at all.The plus was that it was very pretty in the campground.Old School
We RV camped there and loved it!! All the sites we saw were pull through sites with big yards! Plenty of space to walk around within the camping area, and an amazing trail for bird watching! Also, they had a quite large laundry facility that was very clean. I’m pretty bummed that we were only there for a couple days.
Trails were well kept and scenery was beautiful. Could use a few extra signs on the paths but if you have a map its easy to follow. Campground was great. Roads are a little narrow around 90 degree turns, so watch out for the trees. Spots do not have pads and seems like people just drive up and park anywhere vs a designated spot, except the pull through spots which have gravel. Camping areas #2 and #4 are mostly smaller spots or have large trees that can make it difficult to get into. Camping #3 and #1 have a number of nice large spots. Most of the spots are well separated unless you are backing up to another spot on another road. For example the inside roads of camping #2 and #1. If you want some privacy, stay on the outside loops. Side to side privacy is generally well spaced. Facilities are average. Just about all the spots have beautiful moss covered trees providing shade. Unfortunately there were a number of dead branches hanging around and I wouldnt want to be under them during a storm. I saw at least one 4 branch on the ground within 15 of a camper while I was there. Our spot, 71, had a 3-4 story pine right next to where we parked that appeared to have been struck by lightening some time ago and has been dead for a long time. When you park just look above to see what is hanging over. I had to move after I setup as there was a branch above I wasnt too sure about.
Beautiful park. Camping spots are huge! I love the pull through spots. The bathrooms/ showers are all private and clean!!! The office staff ous helpful and very friendly. Southern hospitality shines through here! And the Spanish moss on the trees is mysteriously beautiful on this historical ground.
My husband and I stopped here as one of our stops on our road trip honeymoon. The campground is absolutely beautiful and all of the lots seemed to be pretty private which was unlike a lot of campgrounds I stayed at. We would love to come again! The bathhouse was also very clean and up kept
Beautiful park. As a trail enthusiast and a bird fanatic, this park was AWESOME! Saw some cool local species, from birds to reptiles and insects. Very clean, trails were well mapped and straightforward. Definitely a recommendation for anyone who likes walks, and can tolerate heat.
This park is so nice. It is very clean and there is so much to do there with the family or just by walking your dog alone. Theres a campground if youd like to stay the night, they have bike rentals, there are many different playgrounds throughout the park for children to play on, and there are nice trails that go out over the marshy area to walk. I love taking my dog here. Very vary much so family oriented.
Skidaway Island State Park is a precious place and has a lot to offer to visitors. You can find trails for a good morning walk surrounded by nature, or to run, a place to chill and watch the sunset, or even a place to camp! It has stunning landscape. I fell in love with the park and I want to return. Highly recommend a trip to the park.
Wonderful way to get the kids away from Big Tech. Yes, they complain when you take away the phone BUT five minutes later here they get lost in nature. Tons of little crabs to observe as well as birds and other wildlife too.Neat trees and various bridges make for good photo backdrop.
Our family of 5 hiked through here yesterday. It was a really nice trail! We saw deer and lots of crabs. My kids were fascinated! We loved that the observation tower was a short walk, but other trails allowed for a much longer hike. Pick up a trail map at the beginning of the trail! My kids loved the observation tower, and I loved that there was a picnic table there for my kids to stop and enjoy a snack. Some parts of the trail are quite soggy & wet...so wear proper shoes!Youll have a great time surrounded by nature!!!Parking is $5, but admission is free. :)
Outstanding Park. We stayed at this Park to visit Savannah. Our stay was for 3 nights but next year we will book for 10 days so that we have more time to visit the historic sites. The camp sites in this Park are large and well spaced out. The bathrooms were immaculate. The staff was outstanding and were willing to help you out. Verizon service was strong. The hookups had good power, strong water pressure and a solid sewer hookup.
Just 15 miles from Savannah, this campground has no significant faults. The showers are a plus worth mentioning, and the abundant Spanish moss provides a storybook backdrop worthy of being home to Bowtruckles and Thestrals otherwise found only in the Forbidden Forest.
Beautiful, large park to enjoy! There are multiple playgrounds and pavilions for gatherings. We especially liked the outdoor fitness area that had some cool modified exercise equipment that was also wheelchair accessible. The walking trails are clearly marked, safe and beautiful. Walk by the river, through the marsh, into the dense forest. Its a great place to birdwatch. Five dollar parking pass is very fair.
Nice state park, we had a pull through site, these are nice in that they are a horseshoe style, you pull up right next to the road. The camping area was very spacious, would be great to come here with other families or a group together. There is a new bathhouse on one end and was very clean and nice compared to the one at the other end of our section. Also had 2 new washers and dryers were $1.50 a load so very reasonable compared to many RV parks and places that charge $3+, just bring quarters for the machines. There are also now some Sewer pull through spots but they did not show up in our initial search or else I would have tried to grab one of those. We will definitely try to come back here again sometime and explore more of Savannah. Lots of playgrounds around the park as well. The only issue I had was a tree right in the corner of the entrance to the road to our section that if we hadnt been cautious and quick to catch before making the turn we would have ran into it at the top of our camper. And another tree on the direct other side of the road and then a sign, coupled with an almost 90deg right turn. So we had to back up and re try the entry. That tree on the right really should come down to prevent injury to other campers making that turn. Also the roads are very curvy and bumpy since they as well will not remove trees unless absolutely necessary even if that means winding around them and them growing roots into the road. So drive really slowly and cautiously especially with big rigs or low to the ground coaches.
Went to Skidaway State Park today, 3/10/20, and had a great time! The cost was 5 dollars to park and the staff at the office were very courteous and helpful. We parked and went for a walk on the Sandpiper and Avion Trails. Let me say this......the trails were absolutely beautiful......a must see if you are in the area. The trails were easy, nice and flat, with scenic spots to stop and look and take pictures.I cannot say enough great things about this State Park.....and all just for $5!!!! Go check it out for yourself, you wont be disappointed!
Much improved over years. Need to widen roads , turns and access to lots to accommodate larger RVS. Smooth out speed bumps.. way to high and damaging to your rig. Trim trees overhanging lots.. Super clean bath houses. Very sweet Ms Carolyn at the gate. Going b a c k soon!
It cost $5 to park in this park. The older lady working in the booth at the entrance is so nice and helpful. Upon entering the park, there is a stop sign and the parking lot is in the left, the Sandpiper Trail is to the right of the building ahead, and turn right to access the rest of the parking areas. I took a right turn and parked in the first lot on my left where there is a picnic area. I back tracked and headed down the Sandpiper Trail and also hiked the Avian Loop Trail. Both trails are very clean and have a beautiful view of the marshland. The Avian Loop Trail offers a beautiful view of the Skidaway Narrows. There is where I saw little tiny crabs on the sand quickly walking away to hide when they heard/saw me. So cute! I love that this park is dog friendly. I really enjoyed hiking these 2 trails. I wish it wasnt that hot, or I would hike the other trails.
This place is perfect. The scenery, the wildlife, the vibe of the place is precisely my tune. The Spanish moss hanging from the old growth oaks, the scent of the salt marsh, the deer silently grazing in our campsite, the quiet swish of the pine needles in the gentle breeze... If heaven aint a lot like Dixie, I dont wanna go... ☺️ The campground is very well maintained, laid out, and staffed. The campground hosts near #42 and near #72 were both excellent, going above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Our site 30A circuit breaker on #72 kept tripping, so we had no AC in our camper after a day of 105°F... Even at 11pm our host was able and willing to fix the problem, and did so with a smile. The staff at the front office were as accommodating, friendly, and professional as always. We are glad Georgia has such great State Parks!! And Skidaway Island SP is our #1 all time favorite!
This was a place I was so glad I saw. Beautiful greenery, serene scenery, and a natural beauty to behold. Parking is $5, but well worth the trip if you don’t want to just drive around. This is a great spot to relax, enjoy a picnic, take the family, walk on the trails, and admire the beauty of hundreds of different types of trees. Highly recommend!
It is nice that the campsites are spread out and not on top of each other. In addition, most sites are under oak trees giving a lot of shade. They have also cut out most of the undergrowth to keep the mosquitos and bugs to a minimum. For tent camping they have a hard sand build up to keep you off the mud when it rains. Really helps to keep your tent dry and packing up is so much easier without mud on everything. For my fellow campers who need handicapped assistance they have that covered with the bathrooms and parking too.
We had a last minute reservation at Skidaway and didnt know what to expect. We was very pleasantly surprised. We started RVing a little over 2 years ago and I would say this is the best campgrounds we have been too. Big campsites, a lot of trees and trails. When we thought of camping in an RV this is the kinda of place that I imagined and although we have been in some nice campgrounds this one would be at the top.
This is a great camping area and state park. The campsites are spacious which gives you room to enjoy yourself without invading your neighbors and vice versa. There is about 10 miles of walking trails with the shortest being less than a mile. Wildlife is everywhere at this park, check out the pictures below and see if you can see the deer. They have recently remodeled one of the restrooms so it is nice and the other one is in good condition also.
I love this park! Its beautiful! Although some of the amenities werent so great, they were making improvements, so by now its probably great. The campground is well laid out, with generous sites. Its a great campground for riding bikes. I knocked off a star because we wanted a full site, was told there werent any, yet every single night we stayed, there were many empty sites with full hook-ups. 😕
This is a beautiful, peaceful lovely campground, especially that now they have full service sites and you can reserve specific sites ahead. The huge oak trees with draping Spanish moss alone is worth the visit, but there is so much more. This is a couple miles from Savannah but an easy drive to town and all the southern hospitality youll ever want or need. The 2 young ladies at the SP desk were knowledgeable, friendly and had a fun sense of humor. We got caught in the rain so had to do a load of laundry at the campground. They have the newest, cleanest washers and dryers of any campground weve been to. Our first visit to this campground, but well be back. Love Savannah and all the southern charm. A lovely, quiet campground so close to Savannah makes this the perfect vacation spot. Youll love it.
Beautiful walking trail and place all around. Picnic amenities are good. Definitely worth the visit. Things to consider:1.) There is a fair amount of distant noise from guns or trains colliding a good part of the day.2.) Park staff came around the Picnic area twice with a large tractor blowing leaves (for maybe 50 leaves in the entire parking lot), which in the process makes a lot of noise and makes for a dusty situation.3.) The mens bathroom does not have a door for the toilet, so if you have to go #2 then be prepared to engage people as they turn the corn:).Still worth the visit, very cool place.
Beautiful park. Sites are spacious many are full hook up, they could use more. Some sites need trees removed and better gravel to level the rv. The roads also need to be paved better and wider.Downtown Savannah is about a 20 min rideBut there is several stores just outside the park to use.Several bike paths to explore. The pavilion we used was nice. Restroom/showers I didnt use. Overall a great park if you can get a premium site.
Great place to walk trails! If you want to go for a day and enjoy a day in nature this is definitely the place to do it. Good place to go camping too. Its perfectly placed with a short distance from town and a short distance from kayaking and other activities. Nice quite camp ground. Met lots of friendly people on the trails.
A very nice park. The sites are quite large, most with water, electric, and cable hook-ups, one section has sewer as well. The bathhouses are very nice, and there are laundry facilities as well. The park is an easy drive to the Savannah historic district. Should we be back in this area we would definitely stay here again.
Loved this park! We stayed for two nights. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We had a short circuit with our unit and they helped us the moment they had someone available! We went on a bike ride on a the trail with our daughter in her trailer. We had to stop half way through because there were a lot of branches and it was to bumpy for her. So not 100% recommended to ride with baby. other thank that it was a wonderful hike/ride. We went in July and there were a TON of nats! So a fire is a must! Overall a very successful RV campground.
We enjoyed our stay at Skidaway S. P. The park personnel was more than happy to help with any questions you might have about the area. The sites are shady, spacious, and have easy access. Some sites are much closer together than campsite pictures may show on the camp website. When you reserve a site, it is site specific. There are a limited number of full hoop-up sites. Their bath houses were clean. An RV dump is available if needed. We will definitely be back.
We really enjoyed our one night here. Its got a touch of Savannah with the Spanish moss looking trees and a woodsy atmosphere. It is big rig friendly (we have a fifth wheel), but we were 40ft and its very, very tight. So if you have a big rig, just be careful.Happy camping!
Quiet and secluded with amazing views. Nice, quiet, and peaceful. Its always a joy to go and relax. The Park Rangers are always friendly and willing to answer questions, and the scenery is beautiful. Park is always clean and well kept. Great choice for camping or glamping.
Beautiful location in the Savannah suburbs with tidal marsh on one side and a McMansion community on the other. Campground itself is secluded and quiet. Obviously the staff takes pride in the place.Sites are large, wooded, and well maintained. We had deer wander through camp.Bathhouses are pretty much new. Every time I went in, I was impressed with the cleanliness.Campground secret: I believe the staff are involved in a Jurassic Park program to bring back the giant ground sloths that used to roam the area. A source in the next stall at the bathhouse says there are actually several breeding pairs on the property and that they are Federally Protected. When one slothed through camp and started slowly going through my cooler, some guys in a golf cart pulled up and made my wife stop poking it with a spatula.Be sure to get the full story from the ladies at the office before you check in.
First visit to this park, well layed out with hiking trails that accommodate bikes and walker/runners. The sites are large but lack any privacy since their is no undergrowth. We stayed at site 43, which is the only one seen that has barriers so you dont see other campers. 10 miles from downtown Savannah, so is convenient to everything. Quiet. If here in summer, I can bet its a mosquitos paradise, since its in a swamp area.
Awesome experience. Goin in 45 dollars sounded like a lot for a campsite but once we saw it we were very impressed. This included hookups on every site, a grill, picnic table, fire pit clean restrooms, brand new showers and a large area for your RV, truck or tent. The entrance is beautiful its like a transformation to an ecosystem very unique. They also have an option for pioneer campin away from RVs and more in the wilderness. Beautiful maintained hikin area that goes for several miles but campin seems to be the main attraction. The hiking trails are surrounded by lots of interesting facts of history on the island and nature. There is an observation deck about a mile into the path and walkin out there you will see thousands of fiddler crabs. We came in to go to Tybee Island which is only 45 minutes away and is the closest public access beach... Also a great destination.I would recommend stayin here to anyone and plan on comin back. Beautiful and well maintained and a very easy drive to nearby attractions and an awesome destination on its own
This is my review for 2018 & 2019.2018 - Amazing staff! Very nice time at the park. Explore the trails they are beautiful! The park manager and his staff are very friendly . This is a place to go for sure and it’s close to Tybee Island. You get a code to come and go so you aren’t locked in when you want to be places like the beach or river street enjoying your self. #2018It’s 2019 now and we’re back at Skidaway Island. The staff staff has changed and aren’t as friendly. Sam, the park manager is still here and he is super nice guy. It’s definitely not as homey feeling as last time. They don’t offer change for laundry anymore either. I was told the bank charges them a fee to get change. I was most disappointed when the assistant manager that checked us in gave us a hard time about an August promo code to take advantage of the half off in August. No other park has given us a hard time about it. Being a supporter of Georgia State Parks I was very disappointed in the service she provided. I hope next year they have a more friendly staff like they did last year. I don’t normally update reviews but considering how much money we spend with Georgia State Parks I felt it was needed. #2019
This is a smaller state park, but its nicely maintained. The walking trails are beautiful with Spanish moss covering most of everything. The trails are very well shaded and are not bad to walk on a hot day. We ended up coming on a 100+ day weekend and the night were suprisingly pleasant. We ended up tent camping in spot 9, very class to the bathrooms, but gets a lot of light from the near by bathroom. Close drive for a day trip.to Savannah and Tybee island. Highly recommended camping spot.
This was an exceptional park! So well-maintained throughout. The trees are beautiful and the sites are spacious. Hot showers. Close to Savannah and Tybee Island. Verizon worked well. Good hiking trails. We will return!Suggestions: Have quarters available in office for washer/dryer. One more dump station might be good. Found standing water around dump station.
Beautiful park! Really nice rv sites, some full hook-ups some water and electric only. You should make reservations! Park is always full. Very nice showers and restrooms. It has a small laundry room with two washers and one dryer. Camp Hosts are very friendly and keep the park very clean. We loved Savannah!
Incredible location for all kinds of outdoor experiences! The camping facilities and park management are amazing and you have everything you need in one place for a great getaway. You can even hire bikes for the day! Supermarkets and shops are not far at all. Located between Downtown Savannah and Tybee Island, definitely my favorite place in Savannah!
Awesome place to check out of the city for a bit. Great trails to walk/run or bike. $5 parking pass is required. There are lots of fun events held throughout the month if youre looking to get active in the outdoors. Bike rentals and camping is also available along with convenience shop for snacks and supplies. Beverage vending located outside of office
A variety of sites. Website says back in on the majority, but really most are pull through sites. Great location for Savannah and Tybee Island. The website indicates sites have cable TV. Ours #85 did not. Now the reason for 4 stars, instead of 5... Campground roads are paved, but sites are dirt, no gravel whatsoever like most GA State parks. Dirt tracks into your RV after a rain. Another strange thing is the large decks are concrete walls filled in with dirt. Great place if you dont mind dirt.
This is our first time staying at Skidaway and absolutely love it. Unfortunately we came in June and wasnt thinking about the humidity so if your from a more dry area like we are you might want to prepare for that! The spots are very spacious for a state park and facilities are very clean. Lots of tree shade all around. The staff was extremely friendly and as a bonus we bought the annual state park pass to save money. If your staying for a week or more and plan on staying at any more Georgia State parks its worth the money. The pass we bought gave us two free nights plus 10% off or stay. They next time we stay at any state park well receive 10% off as well plus there is other perks as well. Well be coming back to Skidaway again!
Best campground we have ever pitched our tent in. There is plenty of space between campsites. Sandy raised platforms are available, drain well, and are large enough for your tent, awning, and picnic table. The trees keep everything shaded. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained with plenty of hot water to go around. Nice hiking trails too. And a great location, just minutes from Downtown Savannah. A+++!!!
Why not have the bathrooms accessible at the gift shop/office? they were marked employees only, Also nobody uses the dog refuse bins for just dog mess, so may as well put large cans at each bathroom facility. Also usually us van campers like to be situated next to each other, so note for the person who arranges sites!
The trails are nice. The campground, meh. Showed up on a weekend when it appears a Grand Design brand RV group was getting together. Who had the brightest lights and could leave them on all night long to blind anyone enjoying the ambience was apparently the thing to do.When you pull in dont drive straight up to the little shack thinking the attendant can check your reservation and let you in. Turn right just before the shack into the narrow parking lot so that you can go inside the office to get registered. Big rigs, pray there are no cars in your way and you can get into the lot. Cars, pray no big rig is parked in the crazy narrow lot so that you can get in/out. OK, if youre like me theyll wave you over to get registered just beyond the shack.Plenty of OATV channels, and about 3 bars of Verizon 4G.
Nice state park. Wooded lots. Deer crossed our path as we drove into the park. We enjoyed the hike through the woods, easy walk or biking. Bathroom/shower area clean and working. One washer/dryer but both worked fine. It rained every night we were there so we enjoyed having cable TV. Staff very helpful and check-in was easy-pick any site you want!
This is a great place to take a nice walk on the trails and experience nature. The park maps have the distances marked on them, so if you want to walk a little, or a lot, you have many choices. If you go out to the two-story observation deck, it is pretty cool...and at low tide you get to see all the little crabs that scurry around. I was able to hold one of them that had neat markings on its body, and take a quick picture. If you plan on walking the trails, you may want to consider wearing closed-toed comfortable shoes. The roots on the trails can be a little uneven, and the fallen palm fronds can be sort of scratchy around your feet.
Great park. Very well maintained. Some nice (easy) hikes and bike trails. Good kayaking nearby, though you have to drive to the launch point. There could be a bit more separation between sites, I suppose but this campground still provides more space than your average private campground.
Came here to see birds and it didnt disappoint, and even saw 2 lifers, red-headed woodpecker and brown-headed nuthatch! Also got great pictures of a pileated woodpecker, something Ive been wishing to see. Getting to the park was easy by one of them car-ride app place. I can only imagine the place will be even better for birds in a few months closer to the spring migration!
Beautiful park. The trails are well marked and easy to follow. There are a few hiking trails but they connect so you can go for a short hike or use the connectors for a longer day out. Lots of animal tracks and wildlife. The trail is easy going and suitable for children and for dog walking. I havent camped here yet but there are camping facilities and other amenities.
Great park with plenty of friendly deer to visit your site. Great restrooms and upkeep is wonderful. Big rigs have a little trouble due to narrow roads to sites. Sites are spread apart nicely and have some privacy. Not much to do in there but hike if you have kids, but great to relax.
My husband and I stayed a week and love the size of the campsites - very big and spaced far enough from your neighbor to have a private conversation without feeling the neighbors can hear every word. While pets are welcome, they must be kept on a leash no longer than 6, and as is typical in the modern world, owners are required to pick up after their pets. We were unfortunate enough to be directly across grom a couple who brought five dogs, refused to clean up after any of them, allowed one to roam loose and had to go under our camper to retrieve it, and the day before their departure, left all five in their camper from 10 am till after 11 pm while they went site-seeing. ps. They barked nonstop the last several hours. It was annoying but also pitiful. We called the ranger, but because it was after hours, we had to leave a message. No one ever called us back. We felt the hosts should have been a bit more attentive to the site guests.Aside from the dog issue (and thankfully, these people left two days after our arrival), we found the site peaceful, relaxing, and clean. They were down a bathhouse due to renovations, but the campsite was fully booked and there was still no issue with the facilities. It was a beautiful stay. Were returning cour a week next year.
The hubby and I were really excited to take a nice, scenic hike around the state park and were not disappointed! Five plus miles of beautiful Spanish moss-laden branches shaded the majority of the trails. Bugs did not bother us a bit, no spray, and we went the middle of May. Plenty of wildlife like fiddler crabs, broadhead skink, and different bird species. Theres a boardwalk out to a multi level gazebo which is a must with a great look over the marsh. Parking, I think, was just $5. The staff was helpful and other hikers there were very friendly. Dogs are allowed on the trails with a leash.
We stayed one night at the Campground. Hiked all the trails within 2 days. It is my favorite park so far. Very quiet and the campground is spread out so you dont feel like your bothering anyone, and no one is bothering you! The bath houses are clean and tidy and comfortable to use.I cant believe the beauty surrounding the park. There is so much to do, but you dont feel rushed to do it all. This is a park where you can relax and enjoy each perk as it comes. We cant wait to come back!
The trails at Skidaway Island State Park are nice. The playgrounds are entertaining for kids and there is a workout area at the first playground you come to after arriving. Camping there was comfortable, though you will track around a lot of dirt. The bathrooms were kept clean during our stay. It was overall a nice State Park with some beautiful trees. If you plan to be in the area, I would recommend camping at Skidaway Island State Park. If staying during the heat, I would recommend bringing No Natz spray with you. The only negative experience was that we saw a few of those skinny, small cockroaches, which is never desirable and left me afraid of opening the doors. Side note.. I may have an irrational fear of roaches and their ability to infest.
My jaw dropped when I drove into Skidaway Island Park. Ive truly never seen such a gorgeous setting for a park. Huge campsites! Loved walking the unique and beautiful trails out to water. Extra nice and clean showers. I really love this place. Ive told all my friends about it and plan to visit again.
We visited Skidaway Island State Park for a hike with our dog while visiting Savannah. Located on a barrier island along the intracoastal waterway, the park contains salt marshes, tidal creeks and maritime forest. An observation tower provides great views over the island, though you can only get to the first level. Confederate era earthworks and old liquor stills are other points of interest along the trails. Overall, a great park for a short hike near Savannah.
Gorgeous, well-maintained State Park that should not be missed. All trails are beautiful and showcase a variety of well-loved Savannah staples: palms, moss-draped oaks, waterfront and wildlife, all the while enjoyable for novice and expert hiker alike. $5 for day-long parking. Dog friendly! Absolutely love this spot.
This is our second ten day camping trip at Skidaway Island State Park. We love this place so much we’ve already booked another ten day stay next fall. The park is extremely clean, has large, mostly pull-thru sites and it’s quiet, aside from the natural background chatter of squirrels and the rat-a-tat percussion of the woodpeckers in the live oaks that surround our campsite. Definitely one of our top ten camping spots so far.
Clean and well groomed. Spacious lots, almost all of them seem to be pull thrus. Really an awesome campground! Paved roads, level ground and 3 restroom/laundry stations. Only giving 4 stars because $40 a night seemed a bit high for a state park. But Im not from here, maybe thats the going rate for a Georgia state park.
We camped here for a few days while we visited the Savannah and Tybee Island area. We love the scenery in the park, the old trees, moss covered oaks, etc. We managed to snap a picture of 2 different types of woodpeckers. The sites are great for smaller RVs, the larger rigs are limited to where they can park. The bath houses were bright and very clean except for a little mold in the shower area. Nothing a little bleach wont take care of. The folks at the check in point were very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. There is a little store there but supplies are very limited. A grocery store is not far away if you need anything. The park is conveniently located and fairly easy to get to if you have a GPS.
We camped in our 5th wheel at site #50 for two nights in December. The park was spread out and seemed to give enough room between most sites. Pulling a large rig through is fairly easy without too much worry about hitting anything. There are quite a few that have sewer hookup at the site, which makes it convenient when getting ready to leave in the morning. Our site was huge and had large open space. This made it easy to take the dogs out and not have to worry about them wandering. It looked like there were at least two large parking areas with playgrounds and pavilions. I can see going back.
The park is beautiful, BUT we woke up the day we were suppose to head to our campsite and my son wasnt feeling well. I called to see about possibly rescheduling or cancelling. I was told there wasnt a manager in, but she would be sure she gave the manager heads up and to go ahead and call the reservations number about my situation (this particular person seemed very nice and empathetic to my situation). I called reservations and was told I could cancel, but would get no money back. I told the reservations agent okay thank you and nevermind that we would wait a bit and see how things go. My son started feeling better a little later on and was even excited to go. We packed up and headed that way. We finally got there, go to check in and our reservations had been cancelled. Our site was already booked over and no other RV sites were available. The lady at the counter was very umempathetic, was unhelpful and even acted annoyed and bothered by situation. I havent experienced such poor customer service in a long time. I doubt I will be able to visit this park now without feeling the hurt from this situation. Its a shame because it is a very beautiful park.
Love walking the trails with my dog! Such a calming and beautiful hike - I love breathing in the salty marsh air! They offer fun programs for kids and adults. The visitor center has several terrariums of bugs and reptiles to enjoy as well as local taxidermy animals. You can rent out binoculars too! Be prepared to pay $5 for parking or $3.75 for military.
Attended a company picnic here, so my review is limited to the picnic area we were in. The area is very pretty! There was a nice playground area close to the picnic pavilion, which was nice for the kids to play on. The pavilion area was nice, with the exception of copious amounts of cobwebs on the pavilion structure. One of the young girls ended up with a bunch in her hair. There park was clean and well kept from what I saw. There were restrooms near by, but I didnt use them so cant comment on them. I would like go come back and explore the park a bit more.
Really nice park, good amenities. Staff were super helpful and even though I was going to be arriving to the park after close, they made it possible for me to get into the park and find my site. They even left a park map with the route to my campsite highlighted, taped to the park office door. Recommend this park.
Very nice park. Great trails! If youre looking for the Bronze Bonus Geocache, make sure you are prepared to get VERY mucky & be there at low tide. It really is a beautiful park, despite the damage from Hurricane Irma. Nice camp sites. AND they are building a new bathhouse in the campground! Yay!
Wonderful family place. The ranger s are very knowledgeable and helpful. Very educational for kids. The Rangers went from camp site to camp site with a their corn snake (Fritter) to inform the children and families about snakes. They also have a junior ranger program. Hiking trails are flat and informative. Beautiful old trees with Spanish moss hanging true to Savannah charm. The only problem we had was that they need another dump station and more trash cans; the property is very large.
I absolutely love this place! So peaceful and calm. I come here to walk my dog, be careful on the trails thats when people unleash their dogs even though they arent supposed to. Bring bug spray! They have camping and rv spots and they rent bikes. $5 to buy a parking pass.
Nice park, heavily treed with live oaks and lots of Spanish Moss. The FHU sites are pull throughs and are enormous. They are located off a wide interior road with easy access. The rest of the sites are on surrounding loops, they are dirt and vary a bit in size and ease of access. Some sweet private spots are to be found. The roads are narrow and tight through the trees with some root damage.Verizon is 4G and fast. There is decent hiking paths and plenty of room to walk within the campground. Its super quiet. Didnt try the showers but they were clean. There is laundry available as well. Access to Savannah is 20-30 minutes.Nice place, with the exception of the nightly rate wouldnt hesitate to come again.
A nice little State Park. There is a path for a walk and some bike riding and close to the beach or fishing. I think the main attraction is the camping. Most sites are smaller but there are a couple you can for a 30 fifth wheel in. The paths(what they call roads) are a little over grown and the sites in most cases are a good distance apart. We were here in the fall and the no see-ums would eat you up. But you are on an island in the middle of a swamp so it is to be expected. Small fee but this park can use some money and Maint, but cant they all.1 bath house that was clean and in ok condition. If you needed a week away or just a nice over night stop this might be a good location.Check the web site as only some sites have 30and 50 amp, no sewer, water at the sites. Spotty cell service in Verizon.
One of the best State Parks we have camped in. The sites are large and well taken care of, the bath houses are nice and clean and the location is great. It is close to the beach and the other attractions in the Savannah area. It is a little more expensive per night than some of the other Parks we have camped in but to me it is worth the extra for the location. We will be back many more times.
A beautiful park and a very kind/generous staff. The state of Georgia should appropriate more funding to supporting these parks, their staff, and the wonderful Georgian natural heritage. Maybe that way they could be free to the public, like public lands in most other states. Worth another visit here!
Dont get me wrong its a beautiful park, but its not meant for 35+ feet long RVs. I stopped for a night, and didnt want to unhook my compact car. I was assigned a spot that I didnt fit into due to tight squeeze with trees. There were no easy turn around therefore I could not use their dump station. Needless to say I even had to pay extra for my car which was never unhooked. I was not a happy camper! I hope your experience is better.
We stayed three nights this last week. Nice park. Reasonable rates. LARGE sites. The full hook ups were booked so we got 50amp/water #24. When you reserve you dont reserve one site only spot at that type of site. This worked out well for us. We got a great site. Bath house nearby. Had a fun ride on the trails on the rented bikes. Kids enjoyed playing Pokémon.
Our stay at Skidaway Island State Park March 18-31, 2012 was amazing. The park is so beautiful! Heavily treed with live oaks dripping with Spanish moss and inhabited by lots of squirrels. The camping slips were large and spread out. There are some slips with 50 amp service and all have water, cable and fire ring; however, none are full hook up. This was our first experience with a dump station. It was centrally located and easy to use. We purchased a honey wagon for this 2 week stay and it offered a lot of convenience for not moving our 40’ motor coach. I had read a few reviews that this campground was not big rig friendly, and I disagree. The roadways were well laid out and nicely maintained. The only thing I would mention is the loop we stayed in (the first loop) did not indicate a direction and frequently rigs came head to head and one would have to back up. We stayed in slip 5. We did not utilize the convenience stations, although we did look at the first two and they were clean but older. They are in the process of building a third convenience station in camping area 4. The trails were great for hiking and biking and in addition, there is a paved path virtually around the entire island. Bring your bug spray and enjoy this outdoor haven.
Campground: July 2017. Me, hubby, and Mickey, our 6lb Pom. This is our second stay at a GA state park this month (from SC), so we purchased the Family Membership for $80.00. That will pay for itself in one weekend visit, not to mention the additional discounts that come with it. This was a last minute trip. We were just going to stay the weekend (I work Monday), but hubby is off through Tuesday, so we purchased an additional night with our new discount, so hubby and Mickey will stay while I slave away at work! The park is BEAUTIFUL! Our spot, Site #74 in campground #3, is spacious with a good amount of shade. We have PLENTY of space for our pop-up, 4-door jeep, and my car towing 2 kayaks. Very pet friendly, including clean-up stations throughout the park. We arrived after 8pm last night, so I decided to wait until today to take a shower. Woke up to a note on the camper door that a site had a broken water pipe, so all water will be shut off until 4pm. Guess Ill be driving home grungy. Definitely no fault of the park, just life. Good thing I travel with tons of wipes! The office/gift shop closes at 8pm. When we arrived shortly after 8pm last night, the Ranger that was driving by stopped to see if I needed any help and pointed me in the right direction for after-hours instructions (didnt get her name); very nice and helpful. When we went to register at the office this morning, Rowan and Caitlin were on duty at the desk. They were AWESOME! Very knowledgeable about their services, very helpful, and SUPER nice!!! They also confirmed that all GA state parks are first-come, first-serve (or not site-specific reservations). I dont particularly care for that, but it works to your advantage if someone leaves a day early. Also, the narrow roads are 2-way roads throughout. Havent had a problem yet, but it could be for those with bigger rigs than ours. So far, it seems everyone sticks to driving as if they ARE one way, which is probably why we havent had an issue.Well definitely visit again when I can stay longer! 😉
We were looking for a nice place to grill our BBQ but couldnt find any, we called up this place before an hour to this point. We loved this place for1. The grill was huge ... Very few people2. Clean place with a clean bathroom3. Charging points4. Nice shady place for a family time5. Fitness centre6. So much for all this $10!!!!!7. Water line in each spot and grill8. Awesome walking trailI just loved this place, after a long time we had a great family BBQ time and many other activities we good do.Please take time and come enjoy your BBQ here !!!!!
Really enjoyed the walking paths, the mix of scenery from woods to marsh, great waterside views and the observation tower great for photos. As a history buff, I loved the Civil War batteries and the Prohibition Era moonshine still all part of the walking paths was a special surprise about the place!
A wide scenic trail. Hike, walk, mountain bike or even a beach cruiser is appropriate for this trail. Very scenic and relaxing. If youre a hard core mountain biker this isnt for you. However, I found it relaxing and I got my pedaling (exercise) in for the day by doing several laps.
This was our first stop outside of Florida. It has a lot of RV and tent sites. All under trees, so plenty of shade. Depending on the site you are staying on you are in good distance of a restroom, which were very well kept. Some streets are a little tight for an RV like ours, but were manageable. Most sites had plenty of distance between them which gave a little privacy. No full hook-ups and only one dumpsite. They did all have grills and fire places and condoned picking up of dead limbs for firewoodThey had some great trails with beautiful scenery of the marsh and historic landmarks. We also saw multiple deer just strolling down the street with their young. If you were to go on the trails, you have to visit the watch tower. There was a gas station and Publix a block away from the entrance. We were also able to hit Downtown Savannah in our scooter(30min).
We came here to try out our new (to us) popup. This park is beautiful! The sites are well kept, the facilities are in great shape, and the staff and hosts do an excellent job of keeping them that way. All of the sites are pull through, so whether you have a behemoth rv or a tent, youll fit. The tent pads are raised, so even in a monsoon, you wont be sitting in water. Most of the sites have plenty of shade, so even a hot summer stay isnt too bad. The trails are a nice size and an excellent diversion. Now for even better news... Savannah is only 4 miles away.
I shouldnt give it a five star because then it will be booked full Everytime I want to visit. But it is worth the five. Nice pull thru sites, perfect for my 33 ft, class A. Beautiful Oaks with moss canopy most of the sites. They are remodeling bathrooms so if you need those, it should be in great shape. We biked around the trails and saw the giant historic sloth skeleton. Reasonable close to the City. Highly recommend it.
Excellent birding location. We saw painted bunting, ruby-throated hummingbird, several species of woodpeckers, finches, and more during our visit today. The interpretive center has a nice indoor bird viewing window (with feeders outside), especially convenient for those who may have trouble hiking to view the birds. The Ranger was very knowledgeable and informative. Highly recommend!
Its pretty and the trails are great but we were eaten alive by these biting gnat looking bugs, of course thats not the parks fault but beware its next to a swamp so definitely insects galore. Also its good to note that you have NO access to the beach the closest point is 40 minutes away at Tybee.

2022-01-06Skidaway campground was great. Bathrooms/showers were well maintained with lots of hot water. The campsites were well groomed and acceptably spaced, but little to no privacy. The trails at the park were amazing, I highly recommend them, especially early morning. You can rack up 6mi easy. The new welcome center was very fancy and had a very nice selection of souvenirs to choose from.

2022-03-06Skidaway island is a great place for RV camping. There are plenty of hiking/biking trails, a newly built nature center, a great gift shop/camp store. Restrooms are pretty modern and always clean. Campsites of large, fairly private and well kept. The place is located in a tidal island area and there is plenty of water access, great for viewing birds and other wildlife. Over the years, the urban development has surrounds it on 2 sides, but this park still manages to retain a rustic setting.Weve been to plenty of Georgia state parks and while all are good, we think this one is the best.

2022-02-16Well worth the $5 entry fee. Fun hiking, biking, nature and bird watching. Finding the Big Ferry Landing trail entrance isnt as easy as it should be, but once youre on it, there are a few moderately easy paths to ride, or walk (or run). Plus theres RV and pioneer camping, a learning center, playgrounds and even an outdoor work out area.We went on a beautiful February Saturday and the trails were fairly crowded. Youll want a mountain bike for the roots or boots if its been raining, but the well-tread and wide paths mean that you dont have to worry too much about ticks, snakes or gators.

2022-05-04This is a quiet, beautiful park. Very nicely maintained. The camper cabins are cozy and very clean. I really enjoyed my stay.I stayed in Cabin A, a great little cabin. Bring everything you need - towels, pillows, blankets, sheets (or sleeping bag,) cups, bowls, plates, paper towels, pots, pans etc. It has a fullsize microwave, stove, oven, and refrigerator, with a charcoal grill outside by the picnic table and fire pit.

2022-03-20Spent a long weekend here, what a pleasure! The staff is super helpful and friendly. Nice big campsites with relatively good privacy. Clean bathrooms that were well stocked. The office has a lot of cute things to buy - along with wood, ice etc….We enjoyed the deer, birds, squirrels and crabs. All sorts of wildlife at this place! A well kept walking trail through the marshland was a easy “hike.”We also enjoyed that it was less than 20 minutes to downtown Savannah! Lots to do & see with plenty of wonderful restaurants. We didn’t have sewer at our site, but we saw several that did.We will definitely be back!!!

2021-12-18Wish I could give this park more stars! I brought the camper and stayed on site for a week. It was a quick and easy process to check in with ample parking at the office. The Spanish Moss lined roads are gorgeous and the camp sites are huge compared to other parks I have stayed at. The volunteers go around blowing clean the sites and the bathrooms and showers are kept clean. The park offers a hiking trail, an interpretive center, and movie nights by the fire on certain nights of the month. It’s a great place to spend some time and explore Savannah.

2022-06-11Site puddled too much when it rains. Raised cement structure where the picnic table is also doesn’t drain well and water collects way too long, making picnic table unusable. I like the trees, but the lack of open areas makes the campground dark, wet, and mosquito ridden. Site layout is disorganized, with narrow roads that have to be shared by campers that must drive in opposite direction; making for awkward passes. For so many sites, only one dump drain was available, making long waiting lines for dump runs. Trails were nice where not puddled. However, no access to the river for kayaks or fishing except outside of the park seems like a big miss for the campers. Bathrooms were the best part of the park, clean and private. Island is sterile, with little to do out side of the park given the private gated communities that suck up the rest of the island. Small shopping center with little available except a decent small cafe/bar. Unfortunately will not be coming back to Skidaway again.

2022-04-05Stopped here for 2 nights on our way back to Pennsylvania! Absolutely LOVED this campground! Sites were spaced a good distance from each other with lots of privacy. You could park your RV almost parallel to the road so your “open” side faced your own wooded area with a picnic table! Most sites had a raised patio on which to set your chairs and the picnic table! $48/night then 20% senior discount for 30AMP and electric. Some sites had FHU. Lots of paved roads for walking/bike riding! Definitely a 5 ⭐️ in my opinion!

2022-02-03On site 8 which is water, electric and sewer. Level site some shade pull thru facing the woods. Only problem is the park is near a development and there is a generator running all day, so very noisy. Less than 100 ft behind site. Would not pick this site if that is running all the time. Would go to the middle of the campground where it is quieter.

2022-05-27Beautiful park, clean, lots of trails. We love spotting the wildlife! Bathrooms conviently located and even a couple of different playgrounds. Sandpiper trail is better suited for kids as its shorter. Big Ferry Trail is long but it has almost constant overhead coverage. Overall lovely park. We enjoyed our hike out for the Georgia State Parks geocache tour.
