I love this store! The entire staff is amazing and professional. They took the time to help my kids and I, select the best shoes for our needs. Making sure we got exactly what we needed for each individual and their daily activities. Support our local small businesses.
My husband and I happened upon this jewel vacationing in Dahlonega and hiking the AT. What a great store. Spacious and well-stocked. I needed a small day pack and was pleased by the variety. We also picked up some great hiking clothes. Daubrey was amazing and very knowledgeable about everything we needed, and checked on us several times while we browsed. I was in need of hiking boots, and asked him his opinion. I intended to get some in the future when we got home to Houston. We left, and got into the car and started talking…Daubrey was so knowledgeable about the boots that we turned right around and had him fit me for some then and there. His first choice after listening to my particular needs (arthritis, autoimmune joint issues, etc.) was bang on, though he had me try on several pairs to be certain, and even taught me a better way to lace to help me with my problems. The boots performed perfectly. Great experience compared to the shop in Dahlonega which was small and so crowded with product that we couldn’t find what we wanted, and the service couldn’t even compare. Daubrey was great. We weren’t even approached by the person in the shop on the square in Dahlonega. We’ll be back! Thank you for the great experience.

Smoky Mountain Trader is the PhD of hiking and camping supplies store! This is definitely worth the trip into town if you want to get REAL service from some of the most knowledgeable staff Ive ever met. I popped into the store today to try on several pair of hiking shoes and boots. Im an avid hiker and have a pretty high bar when it comes to what I wear on my feet. Daubrey is amazingly well-versed in hiking footwear and took the time to educate me on how each brand is designed and what options would likely suit me best. He started by taking a proper measurement of my feet, then brought me shoe after shoe to try on. He categorized the likes in order, making it easier and easier to narrow down what was a good fit for me. Shoe preferences are very subjective, but Daubrey used his wealth of experience and intuition to make the process easy and enjoyable. I highly recommend a visit to this store!
Amazing store atmosphere with very friendly staff and owner. Prices are fantastic, let alone a store of its size. Ive gotten and received holiday gifts from here the past two years and its incredible how much there is to chose from! Quality packs, boots, and clothing brands.

Great, personal service here!! Dear husband got to try on several sizes and brands of hiking shoes. Staff recommendation was spot on! I also purchased a pair of Keen sandals that literally rubbed me the wrong way when I got them home, and an exchange was not trouble at all!

I have been shopping at Smoky Mountain Trader for 3 years now and couldnt be happier. First of all, their products are of great quality. They dont sell the cheap stuff youll find at Bass Pro Shop or Walmart. Secondly, Their staff is amazing. Knowledgeable, informed, and able to make advice when you are looking at the gear. Great to ask for gift advice too! Lastly, there is something special to me about a family run business that keeps their priorities right. Its easy to cut corners in this world, but at Smoky the owners are amazing, good, caring people. I would HIGHLY recommend them. (Just FYI, my previous purchase history would include knives, coins, backcountry packs, camping gear, clothes, shoes, etc. A little of everything they sell!)
We visited the Smokey Mountain Trader and really enjoyed it. They have a lot of items that you wont find in other retail stores. Local Mountain tee shirts and hats to high end duck down coats and jackets. It has 2 stories of every neat outdoor product imaginable.
Ive bought items for shipping to Australia at least 2 or 3 times and always been happy with the results. Great customer service and very accommodating with size info and working out the best mailing option.

Great selection of hiking gear ranging from shoes to packs to clothing, and plenty of other outdoor hobbies. Wide selection of carhartt work clothing, and a small but very well picked assortment of work boots. Major plus in my book for being a benchmade dealer, the just arent any better knives on the market.

Really friendly staff, knowledgeable and ready to assist. Cool space overall with most of the clothing upstairs. There are limited brands available, but they do carry high quality merch, so expect to pay prices that reflect gear worth owning. Would like to see a few more options for pants/shirts/jackets (in addition to kuhl, Carhartt, and one other I believe). But definitely one of the best shows in the area and worth a visit!
Outstanding service! Car l spent the entire visit with us helping try on shoes and backpacks. We ended up spending $400 and leaving happy with quality gear.

Their Prices are LOWER than the larger or better known Outfitters on boots, clothes, etc.Ive been to a lot of outfitters in the area & Smoky Mountain Trader is one of the best. Im an avid hiker and have hiked the North GA mountain trails for over 20 years. Ive been to all the larger Outfitters in the area, but never stopped in to check out Smoky Mtn. Trader until today. This is the best place in the Northeast Georgia area to find outdoor camping, hiking and general outdoor gear. They carry some of the highest quality brands at the most competitive prices and provide the highest level of customer service Ive found in a long time. I would recommend making this your 1st stop if youre in the market for the good stuff.
Smoky Mountain Trader is one of the premier outdoor stores in north Ga. The backpacking section is top notch with everything you need for a day hike or prepare for a thru hike. All the top outdoor brands you could ask for. I love this place.
Ethan, thank you for your fantastic customer service! You were out of stock but immediately checked to see if you could order more. You stayed in contact with me, informing me of the order status. Because the item had to be sent to you from the manufacturer, delivery time was extended. You waived the shipping fee even though the delay wasn’t your fault. Your prompt and tenacious work with your supplier is the only reason that I have a pair of the Kuhl Red Rock shorts. Typically I’m not too concerned with garment color, but we were returning from a trip to Sedona when my wife found them on your online site. They were the perfect “wearable souvenir” of the trip. Because of your service, your store is now the first place we go when looking for outdoor gear.-Sean
I have picked up hammocks for my friends and family here and got Chacos for me and my daughter, also. I will be back for the ultralight gear and meals, I will need, when I take my kayak out for some kayak camping. I Love this place!
I placed an order and paid for a pair of Kuhl pants eight days ago and they still have not shipped. Ive made several attempts to contact them and cant get ahold of anybody.Finally got ahold of them and they are checking on my order.
Prior to Christmas Day, went to choose hiking boots at this store. Selection was excellent and store is impressive. Had assistance picking out hiking boots for my wife. My wife commented that they felt a little tight and asked if they had half a size larger. He felt her toes and said there was some space and that they would break in. They also did not have the size in stock that she needed (she needed half a size larger). They informed us that the boots would break in and that she was wearing thick socks. Next day we were about to go on a hike, but my wife said her feet were sore after a few feet. We did not leave the paved road to get onto trail. We decided to do hike the next day after the boots were exchanged for the proper size. The boots were worn for maybe 10 minutes and were in brand new condition. They stated because they had been worn that they couldnt accept them. The treads were in perfect condition. They needed to be wiped off. Keep in mind that we picked these shoes out with assistance, telling them they felt tight, and they still would not do an exchange. The manager was kind nice about it; however, the owner would not budge on exchange for proper size. We contacted Merrell directly and are now going through a process with them. Merrell is working with us and expressed their displeasure with the situation. The store has a good selection but BUYER BEWARE do not take boots out of store. Also, boots do not wear in. The customer service representative with Merrell explained how they needed to fit and what should have been explained to help us to choose the correct size. Love shopping local and supporting local but am extremely displeased with the store not taking into the consideration of the circumstances (Christmas), the perfect condition of return (company said they should have taken them back and exchanged them after we sent them photos with closeups of treads), and if the size isnt there that is correct - dont make the purchase.Am extremely disappointed with how things played out. Fortunately, with extra effort, Merrell worked with us because they felt their brand was mishandled by the store.
They have a wide variety of outdoor adventure brands, mostly clothes. The counter personnel are very knowledgeable about the area, and very helpful!

Didnt have a great experience here. Walked in with the expectation to get some new boots. There wasnt a Welcome or even How can we help you. Cant deny they have a lot of merchandise but not worth it if you dont feel welcomed.
I was looking for Chaco for my daughter and they finally got a shipment in and held the pair she wanted to look at! Most stores would have first with the money gets them! Very friendly helpful staff, prices below almost all large retailers. Shop local!

2022-05-22My husband and I love Smoky Mountain Trader! The selection is great, the people are friendly and knowledgeable, and its just wonderful to have a local outfitter. Weve acquired a fair amount of our best backpacking gear from here, and its all been excellent. 👍 Great store for sure.

2021-03-23I went here today in hopes of finding new hiking shoes, and was able to get exactly what I was looking for. Not only that but the guy working could not have been any nicer or more helpful. He was amazing. Oh and if you are like me, and you are a lady with bigger feet I would definitely suggest trying here. I wear a 10 and 1/2 in womens or an 8 and 1/2 in mens and they had plenty for me to choose from

2021-10-20Went in at around 5:00 to stock up on my Fall hiking gear. Store is closed, drove to Academy Sports and stocked up. Ill buy local when local stops trying to work part time and charging double for everything
