Southern Diesel in other cities:
I dropped off my older Winnebago for some brake work to be done. They looked it over and ordered parts, problem was couldnt get all the parts that were needed. I offered to pay for the parts and labor that was done already had been ordered for my RV. They were very nice and said parts could be returned and labor was not a problem. They will see me again in the future I am sure.
A light came on in my Ford pick up truck that said there was water in my fuel. I was recommended to Southern auto and diesel by a Chevy dealership in the area. They were able to get me in at the end of the day, order a fuel filter and change it out in less than an hour and a half.I had no appointment and they made sure they got me out before the day ended. They deserve this five star review.
I flagged Robert down at the Jekyll Island Campground and even though it was 5:15 (he had just finished a repair job for someone in the campground) he kindly stopped and took a look and my issue and offered to get it done right then. He could not have been any nicer. He hung in there til the job got done and is obviously a great guy. I’m so glad I have his card so that I can call him again if we have RV issues again in the future. Thanks Robert!!
I drive a full size commercial motor coach. We broke down. Once we were repaired enough to move we brought it here. The owner, Robert I feel went above and beyond to get us back on the road. Though I dont want to break down I would definitely use his service if I was in the area again. I highly recommend this company.
Being broke down 375 miles from home is a scary situation! My wife and I had driven down to Jekyll Island to visit our daughter who was having cancer related surgery. About 100 miles from home the check engine light came on. Now this is a Diesel truck and if you ignore the light, the truck will stop running after some number of miles. The dealer told me they could diagnose the problem in 2-3 days or I could get an appointment the following week. That was a no-go.I Binged for Diesel repair shops in the area and found Southern Auto and Diesel. The shop is on the edge of the commercial district, the parking lot was very crowded with trucks and RVs.Robert Deen is the owner and he assured me they could fix the problem. Long story short - it took a day longer than wed hoped for but the repair was probably faster than we would have gotten at the dealer. The good news is - we had no problems on the way home and since they used factory parts, we get a two year parts warranty! Now, having said all that, parts delivery is a problem. Depending on your specific problem, repairs can take longer than usual.Robert told me, I treat my customers like it was my own money. We wont repair anything that doesnt need to be done.
The best customer service hands down! The local Ford dealer was backed up and recommend Southern Auto & Diesel to me. When these guys found out that my wife and I was stranded out of state they finished up a couple of projects and started looking at my problem the next day. Robert completed the worked a day sooner than the Ford dealer could even look at it. That alone saved us $500 in rental car, RV transportation and storage fees. Good, Honest, Hardworking and Trustworthy guys. If I lived in the area, all my diesel work would go to these guys.Thank you Robert and Houston!
Thank you Robert! We live in Atlanta and our mini van started to die on the road and we barely made it to the Jekyll Island Campground. The ladies working at the campground said Robert and his shop were the only mechanics around that we should go to. Robert was so helpful on the phone and we used his preferred towing company (D&C Towing in Brunswick, which were great) to have the van towed to his shop.He tested the gas (we thought maybe we had water in the tank) and other things and said it was mostly likely a failed transmission but he was so backed up with customers, he couldnt fix it for another week or two (the sign of good mechanic!). He also said he really didnt feel comfortable with us taking it anywhere else in town, as they would likely charge us tons of money to fix it, and it would die outside of town and wed be stuck again. He recommended we rent a u-haul truck and trailer and tow it back to Atlanta, where our mechanic could evaluate it and fix it. So it sat at Roberts shop for a couple of days, while we figured out the logistics (we also had a kid, two dogs and a camping trailer we had to get back to Atlanta).Robert didnt charge us for his evaluation or for keeping the van at his shop. So while he didnt actually do any repairs to our van, Im giving him 5 stars b/c he was so helpful and honest and did not for a second try and take advantage of our predicament as out-of-towners. If I lived in the area he for sure would be my mechanic!
We developed a major oil leak on our truck while on vacation. Robert agreed to look at it. He had issues trying to get the part. Once the part was received, it was repaired the same day. This was important as we had to extend our vacation. We appreciate all of his efforts.
Robert and his mechanics came to our aid. While going home pulling a boat trailer. I accidentally put 8 gallons of gas in my diesel tank.AAA could not get me towed to his shop, so Robert had an associates come and get us.My daughter and her family where able to continue on home in the motor home.Friendly and knowledgeable, honest and professional.Thank you and your mechanics job well done.
This was my first time to Southern Auto and Diesel, the quality of work and service was impeccable. They were straight forward, upfront and honest throughout the process. Robert was straight forward with the work that needed to be done and didn’t try to up sale me on any additional work. They did and amazing job and if you want good quality and honest people to work on your diesel, Southern Auto and Diesel is the place to go. Thanks again for all the hard work that the entire team did for me!!Sincerely Beau
Our motorhome completely shut down on interstate 95 southbound on our way to Florida. We got a hold of Robert the owner of Southern Auto and Diesel and he arranged 4 a tow truck to haul us into his shop after midnight. The next morning he arranged for me to get a taxi to the airport to rent a car as the repairs to our motorhome were not something that could be done overnight. After all sorts of delays not caused by Robert we finally got the motor home back in better shape than when we started out from Delaware. Robert is the epitome of a southern gentleman. If you are looking for quality spot on service he and his staff are able to deliver first class service.
Wow! So thankful for these guys! My Husband and I own a Transport company and our Truck is our life line to say the least. We were leaving the Port when our Truck started loosing Power before we could get to Interstate 95. We were afraid or being broken down aside the Interstate. So, we made the choice to stop and try and make arrangements to get the Truck looked at. We called every Ford Dealership within 100 miles all of which were booked up for a week or extremely rude ! We had to go to option two and search for a private shop. Which is very scary when good Diesel Shops are rare. But, luckily we found the light at the end of the tunnel! The guys from Southern Auto&Diesel came out and briefly looked at the truck to verify it was safe enough to limp to the shop without causing any damage. Once we arrived they got the concern accurately Diagnosed in a timely manner. And , considering the extent of what I consider a large repair. Got it fixed up in a reasonable amount of time as well. We work hard and Im glad we found a shop that actually diagnosed our issue instead of using our money to try out parts. And, thanks for taking the time to answer ALL my husbands questions about his baby! This is the best Diesel shop ever . 5 stars!
These guys at Southern Auto & Diesel are by far the best mechanics in town, if you have any kind of diesel problems. They are a family own and they take a lot of pride in what they do. They always put the customers needs first. They have done work for me many times on my diesel and I have been satisfied every time . I would recommend them to anybody. Great job guys , you’ve always got my business.
I was unaware that I could leave feedback on this business until today, or I would have left this when I got my truck back.I’m an older man and have had a lot of business and life experience, but I have never seen such a miracle performed on a piece of equipment (2005 F250 SD 6.0l flatbed farm truck) in my life! These guys have INTEGRITY, KNOWLEDGE and they are the BEST I have ever worked with. My truck is a WORKHORSE! I have never owned this quality before. You can be assured that any bad reviews on this business is a situation where the customer tried to beat these people. Be assured they are HONEST business people that pay their bills and they expect their customer to pay, ALSO!Pat Thrift02-24-2020
Robert at Southern Auto and Diesel have helped us out immensely! Our campers air conditioner died when we rolled into town and it was 100 degrees outside! Robert dropped what he was doing and ordered us a new unit. When it came in, he got us right in and changed it out. Since then, we have used him for 2 other problems we have had and he has always been prompt and courteous. If you find yourself in Brunswick GA and you need a reputable RV mechanic, don’t look any further than Southern Auto and Diesel! I promise they will take good care of you!Michael SwansonGet Your Goat Rentals
Proceed with caution. We’re at a point in time where delays are inevitable, so expect that. However, also understand that business’ are in turn flexible with customers. I should’ve had my Ford F-350 back from these guys last week. Fuel contamination resulted in this shop charging an outrageous $125/hr shop time and 250% mark up for parts. $7,800 for parts that I could buy OEM from Ford for $3,200. Total $12,000! Considering this, they don’t even offer any type of military/government discount. I’m LE and asked, which is highly unusual that they wouldn’t offer. When asked about shop rates being higher than ford, the owner, Robert initially indicated that he charges less than factory, but when faced with the facts stated, “My rates are my rates, I don’t match dealership rates.” Really?? You charge more than the dealer?? You wouldn’t be in business, simply unsustainable. End of rant. Just find another shop that has integrity and operates ethically. The guy doesn’t seem terrible on a personal note. Just poor practices.Update, upon picking up truck, Robert demanded I get a cashiers check or cash to pay him rather than accept the Geico insurance check. I took it to BOA and they said the business is required to deposit into their business account and this is very common practice. I was eventually able to get the cashiers check, but later learned he wanted the immediate funds since he had damaged my truck while at the shop.I provided Robert with the cashiers check and my deductible. When leaving the shop, within an hour, the “ater in fuel” light was active on dash, as well as “service charging system” light illuminated, which wasn’t on when left for servicing. This shop literally damaged my truck further. Robert claimed fuel system is guaranteed by Ford for 2 yrs. This is false and was verified via Ford who couldn’t find the repair by my vin. This shop also charged my shop for 15 gallons of diesel replacement and failed to fulfill this, returning my truck bone try if fuel.Robert knew I was leaving the state and when asked if he could fix the new charging system and fuel/water issue, he stated “I’d get on the road if I were you.” On further attempts to contact him, he never responded to calls/texts and his shop is always locked. Litigation to follow... don’t put yourself in this situation. Take it to a reputable shop. It’s very unfortunate that this business is fostering a terrible reputation for small locals businesses. Up until this point, I’ve always supported them and they’ve been good to me.See yelp for pics of correspondence and failure of shop to honor their damages to my truck, as well as refusal to repair truck how it should’ve been. Apparently $12K in repairs doesn’t get you much here.
We were returning to Florida from a vacation in Maine when our Ford diesel truck started blowing heavy black smoke. We contacted 3 Ford dealerships in the Savannah/Brunswick areas; all of which were booked up for a week. Searching the internet for alternatives we were fortunate to find Southern Auto/Diesel. We explained the problem to owner Robert Dean who made arrangements to trouble shoot the truck the following morning. The problem was diagnosed first thing and repaired in less than two hours. We could not be more pleased with the polite and helpful attitude and service of Robert and his son Houston. Thanks for getting us back on the road quickly!
After being duped by a so called diesel technician across the street I was left very skiddish to find a new mechanic who KNEW what they were doing ( not just blowing smoke or fraudulently diagnosing for financial gain ) After much research and conversations with the owners, I decided to use these guys....Houston and Robert were hospitable and very accommodating to my needs. They diagnosed the issues with my 08 F350 and didn’t do any work that wasn’t needed nor did they over charge me for what was needed. Parts were ordered in a timely manner and truck was back to me even quicker. I would definitely recommend them for any and all your needs for your diesel trucks!!
I would recommend going somewhere else if you need a vehicle fixed in Brunswick. Our truck sat there for almost 4 weeks after being initially told it wouldn’t take that long. Never received updates, only was told information when we pestered them with calls. After deciding to take it back after too much time had passed they finally came up with a diagnosis and charged us for “looking at it” from their parking lot.
I contacted Southern Auto & Diesel about basic questions on diesel vehicles. Mr Robert took the time and answered all my questions, even though I dont have a diesel truck as of yet. Mr. Roberts outstanding customer service, and wealth of knowledge will be the the reason why I will only take my truck(when I find one) to his shop! If you are look for experience, knowledge, and customer service experience go no further than Southern Auto & Diesel!
I went to Southern Auto & Diesel for routine diesel service on my motor home. I made a bad right hand turn into the business and went into a ditch! Robert immediately went to work. He called a great towing service that got me out and rolling, and then provided the needed routine and emergent services with care and professionalism. Robert then connected me to additional services needed from the accident which were all performed perfectly. Roberts personal concern and aid went above and beyond. Do yourself a favor, use this amazing service center!
Im not one to usually make reviews but today I will . My husband and I were towing our travel trailer down interstate 95 in our 2011 Ford f250 Diesel. we heard a fairly loud pop and began to loose power . After some road side googling and brainstorming my husband called Southern auto&diesel and spoke with Robert. He explained to my husband that the shop would be closed Thursday and Friday and he could help us with arranging a tow to get us there to be looked at first thing Monday morning. Robert then explained he hates for us to be stuck while trying to enjoy our vacation as well . Robert explained to my husband that our concern is a very common issue on these trucks and helped my husband over the phone identify our issue as a failed CAC pipe . Apparently Ford used plastic on these parts! With Roberts advice we were able to limp the truck to the nearest Ford Dealer to have them Replace the faulty pipe . After about 2 hours down time we were Disney bound at last! We didnt personally have work done at this shop. But , Robert was very helpful, honest , and obviously experienced with Diesels like ours. Thanks so much ! 5 stars !
It took 4 months and more than double the cost of a Freightliner new truck dealer to have my Motorcoach repairs completed. Given the fact that a part was delayed by 12 days from the factory, the repair should have taken 2 weeks.Because I am limited on the # of characters allotted here, I can only summarize the main issues as1. Extremely poor response to phone calls and texts2. Total Lack of any substantive updates over the 4 months3. Led me to believe that parts were ordered multiple times when they were not4. Would only accept cash in advance for parts. I gave a check and he waited two weeks for the check to clear before ordering parts. But even then, I had to provide proof that the check cleared MY bank before parts were ordered.5. Would only accept cash as the final payment. Would not take my credit card.6. Charged me $7400 for parts that I could have purchased directly from a dealer, without his shop discount, for $3470. Had to make check out to him personally.7. Charged an additional $3250 (cash only) for labor.8. Never provided a receipt.9. Had to cancel my whole summer’s worth of travel plansStay Away!
By far the best diesel shop anywhere around. I have been stuck and broke down several times with my tow truck and these guys always get me going. They are very realiable and very knowledgeable. Not only a great business but also a great family. I wont let any other shop touch my truck!
Was having issues with my F-450 Ford diesel repeatedly needing a regen over the course of a 400 mile haul one way. I contacted Southern auto&diesel and asked could they do a forced regen for me as I suspected thats what I needed. They told me yes but I most likely had a underlying issue causing my concern. They got me in even though they appeared very busy . They informed me of a relatively minor issue that was responsible for causing my concern. They made the repair and gave me a forced regen to clean my dpf as needed . Ive now got a little over 800 miles on the clock and my truck hasnt slowed down yet! Thanks so much for the great service from us at Carver transport!
I was visiting the area from out of town and had an issue with my truck.Houston was up front, honest and got me in his shop immediately. I was back on the road in a matter of hours. These guys are legit and I would send anyone looking for knowledgeable diesel work here. Thanks Houston for the good work and the sincerity you provided in your work.
I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9 Cummins that needed the pinion seal replaced and had a squeak when first first start up when cold. They replaced the seal and then diagnosed the squeak to be the belt idler. While replacing the idler they noticed the water pump bearing had play so they replaced that as well. Good service at a reasonable price.I was satisfied first the previous service so I took my truck back to have the transmission checked to confirm it is functioning correctly. Again great service.I would recommend them for their honest diagnosis and reasonable prices
Great service! Was loosing coolant in my Dodge Cummins Diesel while towing on the interstate. They found it to be a faulty water pump. Had an issue with one of the mounting bolts being rusted. They didnt put me off or push me to the side. Took care of the damage bolt and water pump and got me on the road same day! Means alot to a hot shot driver!
Did a good job far as I can tell. My A/C went out in Southern Georgia. After a couple minor bumps they got it going again. I had my share of run ins with shady shops and raw deals in this part of the country but, Southern Auto and Repairs did what they said they would. Did,t dance around with the prices for labor and parts either. I didnt get the vehicle back in the original time frame proposed, but in the end it was worth the wait. By the looks of the other vehicles in the shop, I think these guys probably do consistent quality work... If youre near Brunswick and are not sure who to turn to try these guys. ~3 weeks later my A/C still works no other/new problems.
I took my motorhome to Southern Auto and Diesel in Brunswick, Ga. on January 25th - WOW, what a joke. Robert gave us hundreds of excuses as to why they couldnt repair my motorhome. They caused my wife and I to cancel a camping trip on April 5th.....YES, April 5th. So on April 5th, I had to finally go and retrieve my motorhome. From personal experience, I dont see how they have a 4.6 star rating. I have a 2003 motorhome. One of Roberts excuses was that he couldnt get some parts because my motorhome was so old. When my wife questioned him about it he got offended and mad and told her that he couldnt help that we had such an old unit. Thats nothing to tell a customer!! I will never take anything there again....you may not ever get it back! I had to give them one star in order to be able to post this. They dont deserve a rating! If you need diesel work done, dont go here.
We had a family emergency on Christmas eve and needed our motor home fixed immediately so we could drive to our mothers house across the country. I called Robbie in the morning, explained the situation and he said even though he wasnt open, to bring it down and he would look at it. We met him at his shop and determined that most probably the alternator was dying. Unfortunately he wouldnt be able to get replacement parts until the day after Christmas but as soon as he could, he would get it fixed. True to his word, he pushed his supplier to get parts asap and came in the day after Christmas (still officially closed) to replace the alternator, belts, and idler pulley. That afternoon we took off. 3000 miles to California and our RV ran great, even though we really pushed it to get here. Great service!!!
We had some electrical problems with our RV while visiting a near by park, when I called he said “come on over we will look at it” very nice gentleman. He even told us how to get through the weekend so we didn’t have to cancel trip so we could order part on Monday! I recommend this facility to anyone
Sometimes in life you meet people that you can call your friend The people at southern Auto and Diesel are just that Ive been all over the country Im 68 years old Ive met a lot of people but the people there are are very special theyre very knowledgeable and if youre ever stuck on the road Brunswick Georgia give them a call because with diesels and autos they are at the top of their field again I want to thank them very much for what theyve done for me and if they ever need anything I will be there
Man kept truck for over a year calls werent answered so patiently waiting, told me up front verbal agreement $700 ,finally over year later its ready just to find out over 3500 , told him I could not pay it so signed title said he would keep it several months till I could get money, just called truck is sold this fellow lied twice, put parts on without permission then tacked on what he wanted the rest is in his pocket because he earned everything his way, but I foreknowledge he will type something bad about this comment because he likes control, just be sure you get written agreement folks and be very patient and persistent

2022-03-01While stranded on i-95 on my way home to New England, the towing company recommended Southern Auto and Diesel. While none of the other shops were picking up the phone, they picked up my call on a Sunday assuring they will look at the truck that Monday, had the truck running and back to me the next day. Knowing I was in a bind, they still treated me like a local and gave me an honest price. Once I was on the road, they gave me a follow-up call to make sure everything was running smoothly. In summary- They are just good people.

2022-04-08We found ourselves in a campground in Brunswick GA when our RV would not start on the morning of our departure. Robert at Southern Auto & Diesel came highly recommended. We called him and asked him to come to our rescue. He was able to get us started and we drove to his shop for more troubleshooting. He was serious about finding our problem and getting us back on the road. It took him less than 2 days to find the issue and get it fixed right. He was very personable, professional and fair. Very upfront in what we could expect from him and his shop. We would highly recommend Robert if you are ever in need of an awesome mechanic in the Brunswick area.Thank you, Robert for everything! Keep up the good work!

2022-03-29I had a “check engine light” display while travelling through Brunswick Georgia and called both GM and Cheverie Dealers in town. They had to be prompted several times before returning my calls. I called Southern Auto and Diesel and they had me in their shop within an hour, diagnosed and repaired my truck and had me back on my trip an hour later. Excellent service from my first call and was pleased by the cost for the diagnostics department repair. Friendly and courteous staff. Thanks for helping me out and getting me back on the road. Highly recommended for their service ands professionalism

2021-10-25We had a blow out near Golden Isle Welcome Center on a Sunday evening. Called Southern and left a message. He called back with in 10 minutes! Advised he was out of town but could recommend someone to assist right away.Southern did not have to go out if their way to do that, I am grateful for the excellent service especially with a family if 5 and two dogs stranded! Thanks again, highly recommend!

2019-05-15The Owner, Robert, and his son stopped what they were doing to look at our motorhome which was towed to their facility today. We had a low coolant light alert which came on twice and shut the engine off both times. They were befuddled as the system pressure tested fine, the water pump tested fine, no visible leaks, but why the low water in the reservoir? After questioned on what repairs wed had recently they determined it was probably related to the work on our DEF system, fixed at another facility, and possibly did not fill the reservoir back to level. The charge was more than fair and we are back on the road and cant thank Robert enough!! Highly recommend!!

2021-11-23Our canopy broke in the out position and could not be retracted, on a weekend preceding thanksgiving week! Not only did they get to us Monday, but they also took the time to problem solve and get us set up to be able to roll out after the holiday. This family business takes the time to keep you informed of every step in the process and make sure you are fully aware of the work they are doing and choices you can make.Their straightforward and honest way of discussing everything between each other and us confirmed they were an operation to be trusted. I am so grateful we happened upon them and they valued helping us over calling it a day - a very long day- and heading home to dinner. I’d recommend them to anyone and will be returning with business. If you want a business that is honest and you can trust, here you have it.

2021-11-13We had some computer/electrical malfunction after a brief stop at an exit close to the Florida border. Wrecker recommended calling Robbie at So Auto & Diesel to see if he might diagnosis and repair onsite before the tow. That wasnt possible so we got towed to So Auto and Diesel. Rented a car and carried on to Florida after unloading the RV. They attempted to repair but couldnt find the source of the issue. On the way back through we stopped to retrieve more items and the engine started right up. Everyone was baffled! We made it home safely and havent had the same issue again. As we travel this route often to see our grandchild (and kids too) it is good to know So Auto and Diesel is in Brunswick! Enjoyed dealing with them and trust them. Will use them again if need arises. We are a gasser but they obviously work on a lot of diesels.
