Its a good experience, but I think for Athens its a bit on the pricey side. The service was good and I think the food was good. Nothing really stood out to me as exceptional which for the price I was expecting.
Had a wonderful meal in the wine room. The soft shell crab was outstanding and the service was fantastice! This our favorite restaurant in Athens!

We are thrilled to have this restaurant back! The bacon wrapped sea scallops were excellent and we enjoyed the seafood tower. The cheese plate was yummy (see picture).Lots of great food for the price! Our 4 year old had the pan seared chicken and ate most all of it! Our server, Robert, was attentive, helpful, and kept the food and drinks flowing! Thanks for a great night!
OUTSTANDING! After having the blackened salmon and the catfish etoufee - we ordered second entrees to take home! Very well done Square One and your server, Mariss(?), was Awesome too! We had an amazing time tonight. The food was delicious, the service was masked and professional, and the drinks were on point. Shout out to Stephanie, our server, and the rest of the staff for running a tight ship. We will be back!
First time experience was very good. The tuna appetizer was excellent. Main course seafood platter was also very good. The only small issues were the wait time to be seated (it took 2 staff members to help a takeout order) and the time between appetizer and main course was a bit long. Other than that I had an excellent a very good experience.
Hubby and I went for brunch on Sunday and we were blown away by how good the food is!!! We’ve only been in Athens for a year and have tried many restaurants and I can confidently say this has been the best breakfast we’ve had so far! Can’t wait to try their Tuesday night date nights next.
The seafood pasta was great..
The overall was experience was great at Square One. The only thing that I hoped for was a better dessert menu. There was only 3 items to choose from and my friend didnt want any of them. The server was nice and the food was delicious. I would recommend the restaurant.

Joe, Carter and the staff at Square One have provided good food and great service over the years. But lately they stepped up their game. Our recent visit was outstanding in every way.The fish was delicious and cooked perfectly. The service was impeccable. Simply extraordinary.Their attention to detail wasn’t limited to culinary delights. The concern for hygiene and preventive measures to protect their customers and staff from infectious disease was top notch. The decor and atmosphere is fitting to the menu.I highly recommend this restaurant.

Joe, Sean, Carter, and the gang will do you right. Great food. Great service. And theyre all super friendly. Special nod to Daylin at the bar and the awesome wait staff! Heck, theyll even push your car out when your gearshift is busted and you dont have reverse. Thats important! :-)
Came in to politely ask if I could hang a poster for a local venue. Instead was treated with snarky response by the owner. A simple “no sorry” would’ve done the trick. I’m sure the food is good but this is a small town. Be kind and ditch the attitude.
Lavelle is a great and personable server. She is well attentive without hovering over you. The food was delicious also. Oh, order the Grit Pie! (Yes, its made from grits...and surprisingly very tasty!)
Drinks were great. Alyssa was an awesome server and the dinner and dessert were super tasty. Plus, hey, its Normaltown so that bumps it up one more notch.
My wife and I went here last night for my birthday dinner. We are from New Orleans and have yet to find a good seafood restaurant in Athens. This place is definitely not it. The entres are like a weird sushi display on crushed ice you would see in the seafood department of kroger, and I didnt know you could sell oysters smaller than a quarter. Im sure people who dont know seafood probably like what they sell but its just not what we were looking for. We had about a 90 dollar tab and still stopped at Burger King on the way home so we wouldnt go to bed hungry. The environment was really nice, our seating area was really cool and the staff was super friendly and nice. I just will not go back because the food is really weird. I would rather go to outback or some where you get a meal that is cooked and fills you up.
Food was great. Nice atmosphere. They somehow were unsure that when we picked our dinner items that they should put in the order, but it all worked out. Nice variety of menu items. A bit loud, so it is hard to hear those you are eating with if seated inside.
We have been to Square One twice now and love it!! What a gem for Athens GA!! Freshest seafood cooked in a variety of delicious entrees. Great food, friendly staff, quality wines, and a warm atmosphere. Cant wait to go back very soon. You must try this place!!
Amazing atmosphere. The decor was exquisite! So pretty! The food was outstanding. From the appetizers to the main entrees to the drinks! Compliments to the chef(s). Our waiter, Zack was awesome, met our every need! We appreciate it& enjoyed it! And the dessert.... 😍

The food and atmosphere (inside the restaurant) are both solid. There are not aton of options on the menu, but they’ve done an excellent job of catering to a wide range of appetites with the items they do have. My only gripe is that the parking is both scare and dangerous (you have a blind reversal back onto Prince when leaving). Food and service are five-star worthy, but the location/parking woes drop the overall experience to a still-respectable four star rating.

Incredible experience at the bar, had the fried calamari as an appetizer it was awesome! The Apalachicola oysters were excellent. My friend had on the best steaks he had ever had before for dinner and I had and amazing blackened mahi dish with shrimp and scallops sauteed in a whiskey cream sauce.

Best restaurant in town. Service was great and so was the food. Blackened fish and sesame tuna perfect. Sat at the bar and the bartender was knowledgeable and great. The owner was working in the kitchen and his wife was working the dining room. My new go to place.

So happy I drove by and noticed this was open. Went there years ago when it was in downtown Athens. It was packed so we ate at the bar. Oysters were fabulous as always. Seafood tower was good but a few items I would replace (sardines). I will be back.
My wife and I ate here in December and it was fabulous. We live in Boston by the commercial fish pier and their food here is as good as or better than the fresh catch that we get in the Best restaurants in Boston. We are back visiting Athens this week and are going back tonight with another couple. Can’t wait!
Went on a beautiful Sunday morning for brunch that just started the beginning of February. We were first one at the restaurant at 11:00 when they opened. Our server throughout the meal was great. They have a small brunch menu with four specials the day we were there. I got the heuvos ranchero special and my friend got the shrimp and grits off the brunch menu. My entree was really delicious. An egg over medium with sliced pork and ranchero beans. It came with guacamole, fresh pick, sour cream, and fresh jalapeño slices on top of a flour tortilla. Diced potatoes was included with the meal.
Had a marvelous brunch this past Sunday. Highly recommend the trout with eggs and summer squash fries - delicious. Best mimosas in town. Great staff and delightful patrons.
The inside is very nice setting . They told us a 20 min wait there was nobody in front of us just that the tables were full. We had a party of three a table for six opened up we waited thinking they had a reservation for it or incase a bigger party come in keep in mind we have already waited 35 minutes nobody was coming in so we asked to have the table and he was standing outside smoking the waitress had to go outside to ask if we could have the table he told us no for the fact that it is a six people table and only three of us but, there is nobody coming in he was angry we asked. There menu is very very limited they have no sides on the menu when you order the crab legs they only bring you one cluster for your whole meal its $11.00. The coke is what they call a craft coke it does not taste like coca-cola . The two waitress we had were very nice.
Great prices, excellent service, and the best trout Ive had in a long time. Chefs obviously know what they are doing. Atmosphere OK--floors quite slippery, especially for someone with a slight mobility problem. And yes, parking is also an issue. We were there at a time when there was no valet parking, a real inconvenience. But overall, we go there (third time) for the food, and it was great!

Never disappointed by the quality & taste of the food here, and the great service. Great food, great portions, great price, great atmosphere, and love the wine pairings on the menu. Dishes that stand out that Ive had are the whole grouper, sesame tuna, and lobster pasta. The tuna tartare and conch fritter apps are delicious, too. Weve gone to Square 1 often, and not had a bad experience yet. Everyone has an off-day or night at work, regardless of the industry, inclusive of restaurants. If youve only been once, and it wasnt stellar, give it another shot before calling it.
Sunday brunch is amazing! Portions are plentiful and not normal breakfast fare. Some kind of bread would be nice.

The atmosphere is casual and fun. The parking is convenient. Those are the only two things this place has going for it. I never review anything online - however I read mixed reviews on this place before trying it and wish I would have listened and not gone. We started with peel and eat shrimp as appetizer (which arrived way before our drinks and we did not get napkins/silverware) - the two cocktail sauces were good however the shrimp was mushy - we did not even finish it. We were then told bread would be brought out for the table - never received. For entrees we ordered the snow crab and an order of sautéed scallops. The crab legs were nice and hot - but cooked to the point that the meat in them was mushy and almost impossible to get out of he shells because it was so soft - the drawn butter was also tasteless- I had to salt it to give any taste. The scallops were cooked unevenly - my first bite was almost raw - very mushy - I did not eat the rest - my husband ate some but again we did not finish our meals. We never complain about meals and are not picky but this was the worst dinner we have had out in Athens and I am not sure how they are still in business. We paid $80 for a dinner out that was HORRIBLE. We will never go back and will advise anyone that inquires to do the same.
First timers, today. Convenient to our home and came in early. My wife had the fried shrimp with potatoe wedges and cole slaw. The shrimp looked more like prawns and were delicious. The slaw was savoury, the roasted potatoes were great.I had a dozen raw Appalachicola oysters and a wedge salad with bacon, grape tomatoes with blue cheese dressing. Wow, what a meal. A couple of cold Bud Lights, for me and a wine coctail for my wife, and we were SET. Thanks, guys! Well be back!
Where do I start?! This is by far the easiest 5 star review Ive ever given. My husband and I came for the Two for Twosdays special, and everything was incredible... shrimp boil, surf and turf dinner, and a delectable brownie!!! We will definitely be back!
This is the place for seafood! Start with apts. they are to die for. Then the main dishes range from Pork Chops to Fish n Chips to Tuna or Salmon or what ever the Mkt Fresh catch of the Day, yummy. Gotta save room for desert. Key Lime Pie or special ending desert.
The atmosphere and food are great, but I wouldnt make a reservation here on a busy day. I made a reservation for 9 pm with my girlfriend on Valentines day (well past prime time dinner hours) and we were told upon arrival that they were way behind we wouldnt be able to get seated for another hour at least. We had eaten here before and really liked it, and they have a great romantic dinner-for-2 special on Tuesdays, but we were disappointed with their lack of reservation-keeping. Whats the point of making a reservation, you know? I ended up having to take my girlfriend to Dirty Birds (real romantic I know) because of course every other romantic spot was full up with reservations
Seriously great seafood here. Fresh and tasty chef preparations. It may be a bit noisy for a romantic date but this is great for a bunch of friends or dinner for one at the bar.
Just as amazing as it used to be. Well done! Oysters were phenomenal and the swordfish special was superlative! Definitely stop by and youll be hooked (no pun intended).

Delicious fish! The fish dip was delicious! I had red fish with scallops and shrimp in a whiskey sauce...absolutely delicious. Al, the bartender was very personable!

Stingy on the wine, fish very bony, dessert had a cannoli stuck in the middle of terimasu. Should have been just pure. Cannoli is not my favorite. Kale Greek salad was delicious.
I totally loved the oysters on the half shell. l had three dozen of them they were marvelous. The beer was good and cold too!

2022-03-20Pretty good food. Kind of expensive. Ordered online and it was a little clunky, had some options I didnt understand. Also, i selected curbside pickup. I got there and there was no curbside parking and there were no instructions about how it worked. I parked illegally and eventually called the restaurant. I said I was there to pick up my curbside order and was told it was ready. Basically, i had to go in in my stupid slippers because they were too busy to bring it out.

2020-02-18We stopped in for Brunch and it was amazing. Portion sizes are definitely adequate and their new location on Prince Ave. is a nice cozy spot to have brunch with your family. Cant wait to go back and try more brunch items.
