Sumo Hibachi and Sushi in other cities:
Worst Japanese restaurant ever! You can eat there but no servers, you have to order at the front door. Sushi came in a styrofoam box, packets of soy sauce that get all over you when you try to open them. Hibachi steak was bland. All this with the receipt asking for a tip. You’ll get better Japanese food from CVS!
When I moved down here, the rave for sushi in town was Fancy Qs. After trying both, I can say that Sumo wins by a landslide. The prices are low, service is fast, and the sushi is really good, better than ole Fancy Qs where you have to pay more to get less food and food thats not as good. Their side serving of salmon is great, and the sushi is always served fast and fresh. They have bottles of yum yum sauce on the tables!
Thing about a review..... its like calling heads or tails in a coin toss. That being said Im giving them a 2.5 star . Maybe they were off their game tonight .... idk . What I do know is that Ive definitely had better ! Better sushi & better hibachi . I will say I paid more for better . Maybe 5 to 10 bucks more in some places and as much as 50 or more in others . So maybe the old saying you get what you pay for still runs true . Anyways this is just my opinion but I did go off previous reviews . Theres the coin toss.....Hope this helps you ladies & gents !
The best sushi I have had anywhere!!! The food is always top notch, and the flavor and taste are always on point!!! The staff is great and you can tel they take great care of their product they deliver!!! Take out ran smoothly every time, and my order was always correct!!!
I only gave 1 star because I had to. The food and the service were HORRIBLE. Lets start with the service.. I called for delivery. While I was mid-sentence placing my order, the guy drops the phone with no warning what-so-ever and began taking orders from customers who had just walked into the restaurant and then hung up on me shortly after. I called back and the same exact thing happened, again. Eventually I was able to place my order which was Sashimi Deluxe, Steak Hibachi and an eel roll. The sashimi was tough as nails. Never in my life have I had sashimi so far from tinder.. The hibachi was mediocre in taste at best and the rations were skimpy. The eel roll was overloaded with avacado and had very little eel in it.
Damn good sushi and only minutes off the interstate! Stopped off looking for dinner traveling on a Sunday evening and pleasantly surprised. Not the largest seating area but definitely enough for a family or a date night. Extremely nice interior decor for the strip mall and unexpected, but very welcome and created a great ambience. Large, fresh sushi case at the front and we were seated immediately. Had Godzilla, Brunswick, house and spider rolls. All were very, very awesome. House was especially good. So good we pinned it and plan to drop in next time we drove through. Also serve beer, wine, and hibachi. Didnt have, but looked delicious.
Well, the food is good. But tonight was the last straw for us. They have their hours posted on the door...they close at 9:30. Having worked in the restaurant industry for 30+ years, I am sensitive to that. However, also because I am VERY familiar with the industry, I know this means that you should welcome customers to ENTER the restaurant up until 9:30. We arrived a little after 8:00, ordered dinner and a bottle of wine. At 9:30, an employee came to our table to tell us it was 9:30...it was time to go. We already had our keys out, had paid our bill and were literally drinking the last few sips of wine. This was after the waitress had asked us multiple times PRIOR to 9:30 if we were done actually reaching for our plates and glasses. There was a table with three men also in the restaurant. They arrived after us, had all eaten dinners and were drinking beer and saki. They were also told told it was time for them to leave as well. As we all walked out the door at 9:33, they mopped around us, stacked chairs and turned off lights. NEVER AGAIN...They need to change their hours if operation to reflect 8:30...because they intend to be out the door themselves at 9:30.
Ive been to a few sushi places (which, this place does much more than just sushi; my boyfriend loves their hibachi shrimp bowl, and Im currently eating their teriyaki chicken yakisoba for dinner). But THIS place, Sumos, is my all time favorite. Feels a little pricey at times but its such a delicacy, everything they serve, that I never feel like it wasnt worth it. Never been unsatisfied here. Also, I recommend the sumo roll! Most delicious thing Ive ever had—shrimp, avocado, rice, etc. Its also really beautiful. I get it nearly every time Im there.
The service is great.I can even see the cook cooking, everything is neat and clean. The thing I like the most is that they dont bother us when we are enjoying our food 😋Keeping this things aside the taste of food is little average for me.It doesnt amaze me but if want to have quick bite this this is the place. Ive been to this place about 8 times now and I get what I pay for it. So far its good 😊
I’ve eaten here several times with my wife and I’ve come to love it for the food is prepared fast and gets to your table quickly. Sushi is good, hibachi is is little bland so add some soy sauce. They clear soup is my favorite, it’s made with a darker broth than I’m used too at a Japanese restaurant but I love it.
This place was excellent in every way! Food, cleanliness , prices and the best waitresses I’ve ever seen !! We got the hibachi steak and an order of pork dumplings (appetizer) and everything was absolutely delicious. Not a fancy place, but very neat and nice. Sumo was a very pleasant discovery for us. Will def go back!
“Yaki Soba” was soggy and the only veggies in the dish were fried onions. The chicken was smothered in sugary sauce that wasn’t anything close to teriyaki tasting. Only high point was that it was prepared quickly. For the $$ I expected much higher quality... oh, and the “spring roll” was literally 2 bites and mostly fried dough. Severe waste of money.
Our family was headed home looking for a yummy hibachi restaurant and we decided to try Sumo because of the reviews. It was better than expected. Very Good! And amazing service!! We all had hibachi and ordered the Godzilla roll and spent $80 with a tip. Very reasonable compared to other hibachi restaurants weve been to at home. Pinning the restaurant for future visits =)
Have eaten sushi across the country and the fish here was very good quality. Ive been to many places and gotten horrible service but these folks keep your glass full and constantly check on how things are going. 4 stars because I think the portions were somewhat small for what Im used to paying would have probably given 4.5 stars if it was an option.
Amazing sushi! Compared to the other sushi place that Brunswick has to offer, Sumo has better prices and sushi in my opinion. The service is also friendly and FAST! My husband and I can go here and spend 25$ with tip for dinner where as if we went to the other sushi place we wouldnt spend less than 45$ for the two of us and the sushi is okay.Loved the ginger dressing and miso soup :)
I went in not expecting much given the area, and I was still disappointed. The tempura, fish and the rice was tasteless. The vegetables for the tempura were thick cut and battered in thick batter to compensate making the outside clumpy and chewy . The panko shrimp were the best part of the meal. They were cooked properly and had flavor . If you go to cover your sushi in excessive amounts of sauce , you should be fine. The texture was decent enough . They just need to get the taste right. Maybe actually add the rice vinegar and dont rinse/ soak your fish . Plating was a joke, but I expected it . All around , please try better.
Theyre open on Sunday! After driving down from Atlanta and having our mouths fixed for Fancy Qs we went there to find out that now theyre closed on Sunday! What a horrible surprise! So, we went to Sumo after seeing their review ratings were high and we really wanted sushi! They are less expensive and the sushi is comparable to Fancy Qs. We all enjoyed ourselves and the Sumo roll was a major hit with our older kids. The next time were here we would definitely go back!
I have to say this place is much much better thank another popular sushi bar in town. I want to shout this places praise to the rooftops its so good!! You will not regret a visit here if you enjoy amazing sushi!! Its not a fly priced either, but beware everything is so good that Ive had that you may end up going a lil crazy with the spending bc you cant make up your mind what to get!! Your only choice would be to go back and try the other stuff at a later time.
I went here with my friend, her sister, and her sisters friend for dinner(It was before our schools Homecoming dance) and it was delicious! To this day, Ive only been once and I would love to go againUpdate: Ive visited again multiple times, matter of fact, I was just there last night
Not a regular hibachi resturant, meaning not what I thought it was going to be. They dont do the grill and demonstration thing here. Food is pretty good, so Ill say I did like it, the volcano rolls are amazing here, better than probably any place Ive had them before. Servers, you need to be patient with them, they barely speak English.
Delicious Sushi. However, they said that I would be charged $0.25 for eel sauce when I was given 2 containers of spicy mayo that I did not ask for. Should consider providing the customer with one container of eel sauce and one of spicy mayo. Or just simply asking which one they’d prefer.
I had the seaweed salad which was really limp, like it was old. They used fried flour as a filler for the simple rolls like salmon, tuna, which do not lists ingredients. So you get half the expected amount of fish and some weird crunchy fries flour with a creamy sauce. It tasted really weird.
You will not find better bang for your buck when it comes to Hibachi than at Sumo. Even if it was five bucks more expensive for a meal and equal to cost for other area Hibachi places its still going to be the best tasting and win hands down. Also highly recommend their Godzilla roll, though it is one of the more expensive items on the menu.
My husband and I decided to try this restaurant on our 5 year wedding anniversary. The food was not up to par. After receiving our meal I asked the waitress for teriyaki sauce for my husband because his steak was dry. I asked and did not receive. I had to go up to the counter like I was ordering and ask the person up front for teriyaki sauce. When we did receive the teriyaki sauce it was ice cold (literally). No one came to our table to check on our drinks for refills, to ask how the food was, not even ask if we needed extra napkins. But, you better believe they check on everyone else in the restaurant. I read a post on here a couple of weeks ago, posted by an African American women saying she received horrible service as well. I was thinking, maybe she just had a bad experience because surely they wouldnt treat her and her husband any different from any other customer. Well....little did I know her experience was very real because we experienced the same thing tonight. I could say so much more but well just take our money back to Wasabi in Camden County (best hibachi AND SERVICE). Never again!
Place is clean and people seem really nice- but I ordered hibachi style vegetable fried rice- and the rice seems steamed- was 30 Min away back at my hotel room by the time I ate- I called and asked if this was they’re fried rice she said yes- I’m from the atl Marietta area and I can assure you this is not what hibachi taste like- no flavor at all. But that’s ok! You live and learn. Def seems like a legit place just not my flavor pretty much throwing he food away my 2 year old who eats everything wants nothing to do with it and my 3yr old who is picky but lovesssss hibachi rice took one bite and walked away- the rice seems steamed I wish I knew how to upload a pic- it’s just plain white looking rice. Disappointed

2022-03-12Sadly I looked at the over all reviews and not the recent reviews. Im guessing since COVID hit they geared their business more for take out. You order and pay at once at entrance area. Everything is served in styrofoam. Had to ask for chopsticks and cup for soy sauce. The front of house is staff of one. She sat on your table 3 container of some type of mayo mixer. Not sure what they where meant for. We just ordered rolls and edamame. The flavor. The rolls tasted fresh but no flavor. All could taste is avocado. Edamame was boiled but no seasoning, not even salted.

2022-08-12We wanted true hibachi..this place hit it spot on. It was excellent! We also loved the atmosphere of the place. You can watch them cook everything. The clear soup apparently takes the Chef 4-5 hours to make and was delicious. Tons of flavor. The woman who took our order was nice and helpful. We will be going back.. alot! 😀

2022-05-15Average food & services....If you dine in you get foam/plastic products/utensils and their pork fried rice seems like its lacking a bit.....

2022-08-22We used to love coming here. Had great food, friendly service. Over the past several months, the phone doesnt get answered, the food has been ok to good at best, and its a flip of the coin on whether you get white sauce or not.

2022-09-18It has changed since covid but the food is still great. They dont have waitresses anymore but no different from other hibachi restaurants other than the food is better to me . Thank you.

2022-06-18Ever since I moved to GA, I had been getting my sushi and hibachi food here. The place is great, service is wonderful, and food is always delicious and fresh. The staff work hard and fast to get everything finished at a reasonable time. I’ll always get my sushi from Sumos.

2022-06-10Point blank…the food was not good. The shrimp was over cooked in the bowl. It was really hard and dry. The bowl didn’t have any flavor at all. We just threw away the sushi. It was horrible and didn’t taste fresh. They were also stingy with the Spicy Mayo. They wouldn’t give us any because we didn’t have a quarter but wanted to give us like 5 nasty white sauces for a tiny bowl of rice. It made no sense.

2019-04-06The food was decent and the prices were reasonable. The biggest upside to this place was that it was fast, very clean, and I didnt have to drive all the way out to SSI to get sushi. Our waitress was nice, if a little quiet, and stayed on top of our drink refills and got the check settled quickly. We will probably go back, but set your expectations accordingly, this is a fairly generic place with fairly generic food.

2019-03-18Great service and great sushi. We got the Godzilla roll, Spider roll, and Rainbow roll and I definitely recommend all 3. The Godzilla roll was definitely the best! If youre feeling adventurous, I highly recommend the soft shell crab appetizer, too. Most people freak because its a whole deep fried crab, shell and all, but I promise its worth it.
