The Bees Knees in other cities:
How dare they take away all of the wonderful items that used to be on their menu. The smoked Gouda nachos, blue crab and artichoke dip, and tuna tartar were some of the best things I’ve ever had. I know I am not alone in my disappointment to see this establishment go in such a different direction. If you’re going to abolish everything we knew and loved, why not change the name too? It is misleading to continue to call it The Bee’s Knees. It is, in fact, NOT the bee’s knees.
An eclectic take to food in downtown Augusta. You probably wont see much on the menu youre familiar with - and thats great! You build your own meal from a selection of vegetarian or vegan protein base and various styles (wrap, shakshuka, etc.) and add extra ingredients for flare. Libations and coffee options are also included on the menu.
The Bees Knees is a place I’ve had the wonderful pleasure of both being a previous employee and current customer. I highly recommend this unique local cafe to anybody who wants to try something new and fresh. Not only does Bees Knees provide amazing and creative drinks and dishes (vegan and vegetarian but so so good no matter what your diet), they also are one of the most welcoming and open minded businesses in the CSRA. No matter who you are, who you love, what you believe, Bees Knees is ready to welcome you in for a wonderful dining experience any day!
I was thrilled to find the beesknees, while a little different, still the same place Ive enjoyed food, friends, and this new experience of shopping! I highly recommend staying up-to-date on the pop-ups and vegan meals. The scones are a chefs kiss to combine with a cup of coffee or espresso. A treasure in downtown Augusta 🤩
I’m so sad that I didn’t get to take a picture of our delicious lunch! My mom and I stopped by after a day of driving (from Greenville, SC) and we were starving. The customer service was outstanding (they gave great recommendations) and the food was even better. Thank you for existing!
The owner always has some unique idea to share with the community, and while everyone will miss this business as the restaurant it WAS, the coffeehouse it IS continued to deliver top-notch, unique, and local products and services. Thanks for your dedication to downtown Augusta!
Very poor customer service. The food was horrible. Additionally, they are politically motivated and star in a commericial stating that Joe Biden is helping small businesses in Georgia. Not only is this a false claim with no statistical support, I do not appreciate them trying to push their political agenda. Not cool!
When I’m rich I plan on flying my private jet to eat dinner here at least once a month. I visited in August of 2019 and think about this place OFTEN. It has been so long I don’t remember everything that I ordered but everything was amazing. I hope they open again soon.
This is a totally awesome little gem! They have great tapas everything was so so fresh! Great drinks great food great atmosphere. In the heart of downtown. Great place where a couple a women could meet and blow off some steam and relax! The staff was great our waiter Stewart was AWESOME! They make you feel @ home.
This is a wonderful place. Very fair prices (At least in comparison to similar places in Atlanta). The bartender that took care of us was absolutely amazing. My wife and I dont drink that often so we have no clue what martinis to order. She hooked us up with the most amazing drinks, they were tasty and well balanced. The food was delicious as well, I got the avocado tapa, my wife got the quesadilla. Very good time, wonderful bartender, very good food.
Great local restaurant in Augusta! The inside is spacious and airy with tons of places to sit. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. I got the steak frites; the strip is only 6oz which is nice because they don’t give you a gigantic oversized portion. They give you lots of sauce options for your fries too!
You have 1 of the dumbest person,Have seen gas $4.60 per gallon Now going to see your supply go out of sight then you will pass on to your customers and you think you’re buddy Joe Biden he’s killed the job market with his money that you’re kids and there kids.He is the worst president Ever
Some of you so called reviewers leaving fraudulent reviews of this place that you have never enter is not right and youll only leaving bad reviews because of a political ad that has nothing to about the actual business these review section is only here to review the business not the owner political choice if you dont agree with the political views fine but dont bash his business because of yours just dont support the business but to leave non business related reviews is wrong and I will report all I see on here
Outstanding food and options for health friendly vegetarian food with lots of other options too. Our waitress was wonderful and helpful, walking us through the menu and helping us make some very tough decisions because everything looked SO good! Everything we ordered arrived perfectly done and delish!! I cant wait to go back on my next trip to Augusta.
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise! Although there are multiple guides in Augusta that recommend this establishment, that is certainly not a guarantee of quality. In this instance I was glad to find that that was the case! The restaurant has a cool funky vibe, with a very cozy atmosphere. The seating is varied, but a lot of it is in little vestibules looking out on the sidewalk... a very neat experience. The service was exemplary and the food was prepared well. Tapas are the mainstay of the menu and there is an excellent drink selection. A wonderful experience for early dinner or a late lunch. I will definitely be back!
Small plates so they are great for sharing. Have a wonderful selection wines and beers. They also know how to make their cocktails! Great for a group of people who enjoy trying new food and sharing. I went with a group and we ordered multiple plates and I tried everything that we ordered. Nothing was bad on the menu. The prices were really good for the quality of food you get and how much. I cant wait to go again!
They cook your food to order as you would expect and they change their fry very regular cause ive never had anything dark or that burnt taste to it. Prices are fair enough and they offer combo meals of fish, shrimp, or other seafood with fries or fried rice. Overall come to this market for some great tasting food and friendly owners who do care about their business
Awesome atmosphere with great service. The wine selection was great and the staff were very knowledgeable when asked about the different wines they served. The food was great, sweet potato humus will make your nipples hard, that good! If your in town I recommend you give this establishment a serious consideration. Thanks
The atmosphere was comfortable and soft. The servers were available often and made sure that we were satisfied throughout the night. The servers were also friendly which made a night that seemed like I was going to a friends personal kitchen to eat. I ordered a medium rare steak and it was perfectly made. I would return anytime.
Very pricey, smaller portions. There is a lot of choices and the service was decent. Food tasted ok, some random things on the menu like tofu hash and shrimp and grits. I got the shrimp and grits and it was good. The biscuits were nice and fluffy.Parking was easy to find on a Sunday.
We loved the great, relaxed atmosphere, and the friendliness of the staff. Our waitress, Sharina, was fantastic! We wanted to invite her to sit down and join us, we enjoyed her so much. We all enjoyed our meals. Being from here in New Mexico, I was already in need of some tacos, and this place delivered! I ordered the Tempura Tacos along with the Smoked Gouda Nachos, that we all shared. Both were delicious! We will very definitely be back!
This was my first time and I will definitely be back. I went with my mother to have drinks and tapas. I ordered the sangria and my mother ordered a few mojitos. The sangria was good but not strong enough for my taste. According to my mother, the mojitos was good. We ordered tapas. The tapas were good and tasty. I really liked the tempura tacos. They were good. The atmosphere of the place is good. Very inviting. The place is vintage but with a modern, eclectic, unique look. I like that a lot. I would highly recommend it.
I would very much like to give this restaurant five stars. When we lived in Augusta many years ago we regularly enjoyed dining here.On our visit there now I ordered a salmon special. It never came. My wife finished her entire entree, and then after an hour of waiting it came. All we got was a sorry. Ok, so we went to Fuse so I could get something to eat.Extremely disappointed. Dont know what happened. Dont think this is normal, but theyre handling of the situation was poor.
This was a great place to go if you want to try a bunch of different stuff. Its a tapas place. We ordered the Gouda nachos (our favorite of the night), kimchi cheese balls, sweet potato fries, fish tacos, & egg rolls. Their drinks are decent & they have a drink special for every night of the week. It did get a little packed because of TechNet so we couldnt really hear by the time we were done.
The food was delicious, well seasoned and exotic. Most of the dishes had a far East Indian/Asian flare. Its not a good choice for picky eaters. The service was very good. Huge drink menu. The only thing missing was the atmosphere. There was no noticeable theme in design, decorating or menu items. Its a nice social place, not a romantic place.
The staff and this restaurant are amazing! Our two year chowed an entire thing g of the sweet potato hummus, and the shrimp yaki was a win with the four year old. We owe a huge thanks to the staff for accommodating a family at the bar. I know I cant wait to come back here next time we are in Augusta.
Cant say enough great things! Food was great and the server was very informative with this being a first time visit. She knew the products and offered helpful suggestions on ordering, which were a hit! The band was playing on Sunday which was a nice mix. Parking close seemed to not be an issue. The food was fresh with local ingredients...yummm!
This restaurant had an interesting variety of items on the menu, most with a twist of some sort. Like sweet potato hummus. The food is good if you like to try new things and experiment, but not all of the combinations will appeal. Works best with several people and shared plates so you can experiment. Service and atmosphere are good.
Is the food here better than average? Yeah. Is it over-hyped? I think so. My sangria and market fish of the day were both bland and unmemorable. I get it, its a tapas restaurant, but my large plate wasnt enough for me to eat, let alone to justify the exorbitant price. I dont think Ill be back. The waitresses were very kind and attentive, though.
The food was unique and well made. The atmosphere is perfect for a chill night out or a dinner date. The decor and seating are unique but not ridiculously funky like some dives can be. The beer selection was great as well and the staff was friendly. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 was the air of pretentiousness that we felt a few times. At times we felt like we were being treated as unfamiliar hicks even though we dont look or speak the part. This could have just been my interpretation of the banter, but my husband felt it too though he was less preturbed by it.
We had a less than stellar dining experience yesterday. It started when my daughter asked for a highchair for my grandson and the hostess rolled her eyes at her. The wait staff were friendly but service was extremely Slow for brunch as the restaurant wasnt crowded.I ordered shrimp and grits. $15. The grits were almost cold and I got a total of 6 baby shrimp. ....total. No one really seemed to like what they ordered. Our waiter did get the manager to come talk to me about my food but Nothing was done about it.A lot of people were coming to this place. Its an organic, vegan, type of restaurant which claims to try to get fresh food from local farmers. All I can say is that Augusta has so many places to choose from to eat and this one is definitely off of my list.
This was my first time here, the beer selection was great. The things I didnt really care for is the tapas/appetizers,we ordered the crab and artichoke dip it came with 4 bagel crisps I mean sure if your putting heaping scoops on these yeah they will last but Im not trying to eat like a slob in public. We asked for more crisp they came quit a bit later and with a 50 cent charge granite its not a ton of money. Its just the fact that what we ordered didnt come with enough. Overall the staff was nice and professional.
Brilliant space, cozy, amazing brunch. Sat at the bar with a good friend and had the chicken and waffles (great portion), he had steak and eggs Cooke perfectly. The siracha Bloody Mary was so good we ordered two pitchers. The original mimosa was great too. Definitely going again.
This place not only has delicious food, it also has a fairly good variety as well. Their beer menu is definitely respectable, and they seem to have some good wine as well. The issue that I have with Bees Knees is that in 3 years they havent changed their menu ONCE. I would like to try something other than the same 10 or so tapas once in a while.
We loved this restaurant! We were visiting Augusta and chose this place because it was closest to the venue we were at. They were so accommodating to our small children. My little boy was asking for chicken nuggets and lemonade but they didnt have them on the menu. The chef actually made both for him! I had the steak and it was amazing. Will definitely be back when we visit again!
The atmosphere here is fantastic. Staff was very nice and personable. Our waiter did magic tricks! I loved the food sharing concept. The smoked gouda nachos were particularly good. The house sangria was tasty, and the selection of beer was immense. All around good time!
Great small plates- this place is really best with a smallish group of people- get a bunch of plates and share. The fries are amazing w/ the aioli, and they have a lot of vegetarian options if you want that. Super cheap to eat a lot of food if you are splitting with other people.
I love when a quality place remains consistent. And that is exactly what continues to happen at Bees Knees. Their drink specials change daily as does the featured entree, but everything else remains grade A. I still favor their Pad Thai and Korean barbecue tacos, but the smoked gouda nachos have really grown on me. I look forward to the warmer weather, as I will be found frequently seated out front (with O.T. and Ella Wren).
After rave reviews from friends, I gotta say, I was let down a little. The food was good, but nothing I would go out of my way for. Its more the atmosphere that I think people like, and the drinks are pretty exceptional. I think its a good place for creative people, as they have local art hanging up everywhere, but aside from that, it doesnt strike me as a chill place, its pretty hoppin a little loud, and very busy. Small place, friendly service, but again, the food over all was a tad pricey for the portions, and was so so, then again I did go there when I was pregnant, so this review is all relative. Would I go there again? Yes, but probably just for the drinks.
I went with a group, took a while to get seated. Ordered the pad thai, it was good. Nice and spicy. My husband ordered the steak and fries. That was the tiniest freakin steak for the 18 or so dollars it cost. It wasnt on the tapas side of the menu it was supposed to be a full dinner plate. The food is pretty good but they need to work on the prices. Either give people more or lower the prices.
Awesome little restaurant with great Blues music❤️I’m editing my earlier post because I really need to give a short shout out about this little place. This has to have been THE MOST AMAZING place Ed Cummings and I have ever been together. After much deliberation on where to go, Ed decided that this place was calling to him and we really needed to check it out. We went at about 8:00 PM tonight. When we pulled up we could tell we’d made a good choice. The smell of the food from the restaurant wafted past us enticing us to follow. There were a few people sitting outside enjoying the quiet city night but when we opened the door... the smooth sound of Jazz wrapped around us. As we were seated (inside so we could continue to enjoy the band) we took in our surroundings. The interior and music made you feel transported into an extremely relaxed state. David, our waiter was friendly and knew the menu well. After giving us a few minutes to peruse the menus he came back and answered our question adeptly and gave us a few suggestions on ordering. After we finally decided on our dishes we were delighted when they were delivered to our table. The presentation of the food was superlative. We began to taste test each of our five small dishes each seemingly better than the last. As we both sat there slowly talking in the delectable flavors we shook our heads in amazement of how expertly they were prepared and how wonderful the flavors complimented each other. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who has even a slight adventurous desire to taste new and exciting food. If you don’t visit there you will most definitely be missing out on a truly wonderful dining experience. We will definitely be telling all of our friends and family about it!
Good food, though not really set up like traditional tapas. It might be best suited for a group that wants to sit around drinks for an hour or two, with food coming and going. The dishes were all very good, and the lemon meringue cheesecake was the best dessert Ive ever had. They have a few special events each week. Get reservations.
Placed an order to go & i was given a 20min wait time. Arrived at the restaurant 25+min later to be told my order wasn’t ready yet. 10min later the waitress began to bag my food & the boxes she grabbed had been sittin at the pickup window when i arrived 10min prior. When i spoke with the manager i was told in a very rude tone that everything is made to order & they could remake my food. I declined & asked for a refund. Worst customer service experience ever $ I’ll never spend another dime here
Delicious food--loved my bruschetta & the shrimp & crab nachos! (Generous portions & great prices!) Our server David was really friendly. I definitely recommend it--We will be back! Great job! *Only hiccup (which had nothing to do with the food/service)-- We went in the late evening and sat on the patio-- I would probably not sit outside in the evening again just because two different people walked by asking for money (& another lady asking for our food) 😢. We DID help all of them out, but two of them were pretty pushy and it was a little awkward. [However, Im all for helping others and you never know someones story!]
Augustas Broad Street has many joints and one of the joints to look out for is Bees Knees! While it is off to the side, it is tucked away nicely from the nightly hubbub that happens on Broad. On the outside there is a few tables for seating if one wishes to enjoy the weather with a cool drink. Inside the energy is a little bit more, with plenty of patrons enjoying theirs. Well lit but not overly bright, you are either greeted by staff to be waited to a table, or there is the option to seat yourself at the bar counter. If you are lucky, there is local talent to listen to who lend their voice on the establishments little stage. The staff are diverse and accommodating. They know their barcraft unless one asks for something so outlandish; if that is so, good luck with any place. They serve quite a few local brews (I particularly like the Savannah River line) but there are domestic and imported as well. If hops are not in mind, wine and other spirits are available. I suggest to ask what drink specials are available during your stay.Bees tapas serve a wide breath for anyones palette. Be you vegan or not, all you have to do is ask; they are one of the few places that accommodate. I have had their quesadillas vegetarian, their curry with beef, and various others. All were excellent and not overly filling.Overall, Bees Knees distinguishes themselves different from other bars and hole-in-the-walls. I know whenever Im in Augusta, be in Georgia or South Carolina, The Bees Knees is where you will find me.
Tapas are priced high. Portion sizes are small. Nothing special. My expectation was higher for the price range. My curry dish came dry. I prefer mine more juicy. That bowl of curry with some rice should be less than 16 dollars. I ordered a leaf roll also. That was priced at 7 dollars for two small rolls of rice in some lettuce leaf. Disappointed. Probably wont be back.
This place was pretty cool. The food was unique but quite delicious all the same. The food was brought out quickly and the staff was friendly. However it was a little strange having the plates everybody ordered come out at different times so one person may be eating while everybody else is waiting.
This place is over rated. It has a little buzz due to being an early entrant in the alternative food scene in Augusta. And lets face it, nice name and downtown. Otherwise the food is okay and pricey for what they give you (relative to Augusta). I dont think they would fare well in a blind taste test. The mixed drinks are good.
The Bees Knees has been our go to restaurant for the last few months. Everything is always great, from the drinks to dessert. Sophia was our waitress tonight. She was spot on with food descriptions and recommendations - and has only been there a month, she told us. You guys really are the bees knees!
Meant for sharing! Seen a few reviews of people annoyed at the serving sizes, that is the intent of this restaurant, for parties to order different items on the menu and share. I believe the restaurant accomplishes this well with their atmosphere and the food was great. Will 100% return with a large party.
Great Tapas, great drinks and a fun atmosphere, the Nachos are incredible, and you cant beat the fries with all of their selection of sauces. They usually have quite a good selection of beer on tap and the sangria is delicious too. They offer a good brunch menu on the weekend.
Took an hour to be seated with a reservation, took 20 minutes for a server even to come to our table to ask for drinks, then another hour and a half for everyone to get their food. Our party was only 8 people large and random servers kept coming to our table to give us other tables food because they didnt know which table they were working apparently. The servers have zero personality and act as if they hate theyre jobs and the food was pretty terrible. If you want a great tappa experience, go to Craft & Vine or Finch & Fifth because the Bees knees has lost their touch.
We had a reservation for 7 and werent seated until 7:15. While waiting to be seated, you either had to stand outside in the Georgia heat or hover over other tables. There were 2 empty tables in our view, one of which we were finally led to after looking at it and wondering why we couldnt sit for 15 minutes. Once seated, our food took more than an hour to arrive. Service was mediocre, we sat with empty cups for 15+ minutes several times. Food was decent, but by the time it actually arrived we were too frustrated to properly enjoy it.
Came in today for brunch (I usually just come for dinner). This was my first time having VERY poor service. My son and I sat down and it was ten minutes before someone (David) came over with water. He was very friendly and told us that our waiter would be by to take care of us soon. Well..... Our waiter passed us three times and still didnt take our order. Another young lady came and took our drink and good order (I assumed she was our waitress)... Boy was I wrong, our waitress finally made contact telling me that she would be right back to take our order. Im not sure whats going on today (its not even that busy) but again, the WORST experience every. The manager was great and comped my meal that she told me was vegetarian but was not. Will I return....I dont know...Geesh happy Sunday.
Ive been to this restaurant three times, and I think I have made up my mind that it is not my thing. Maybe its not the Bees Knees per se; maybe I just dont dig the tapas thing. I dont know how to eat much of it politely, and there just isnt enough food on the table for a nosher like me. And what you do get simply isnt good enough to overcome those two problems. The alcohol aint cheap either. I did go off the tapas menu to sample the chicken and waffles, and that plate was a winner for me. But this eating tiny portions of food shared with other people who may or may not eat the way you do just doesnt work for me. Tapas is very gimmicky, for the faux cultured crowd. Sure, try it if you wanna snack. Skip it if you want to eat.
You pay for the atmosphere, which is trendy and 1920s/Great Gatbsy style. Most of the food is fine, not bad but not out of this world. Prices are high, especially for Augusta, GA. Most of the tapas are good but prices are unbelievably high. I ordered the $14 chicken and waffle(s). My waffle was slightly larger than a frozen Ego waffle cut into fours, I was appalled. The chicken is advertised as in-bone but is actually boneless. Nevertheless the chicken was unorthodox, having biscuit gravy on top rather than maple syrup for chicken and waffle(s). Regardless the chicken was great. Despite the chicken, I was overall rather disappointed.
Drinks are 50% off on Sundays. The chicken and waffle is a sizeable portion and tasty to boot. Most of the food is very delicious, but if youre looking for large portions you shouldnt be in a tapas restaurant. Youre supposed to order many different items and share. The staff is always super friendly and responsive. One of the most reliable joints in the CSRA.
This place is pretty pricey, but the food is good and it has a great atmosphere. Good for groups and date night. Do NOT get the pad thai (I know. Why would you get that from a tapas place... We all make mistakes). But the other entrees and all the desserts are worth it.
My party went to the Bees Knees on February 11, 2017. This has been the absolutely worst dining experience Ive had in the year and a half in Augusta. The service was extremely slow, the servers were lazy and apathetic, drinks were terrible, and the food was lackluster for the price. It took half an hour after being seated for us to get our drink orders in, another 30 minutes to get the drinks. In total it took over two hours for us to get our food. What amazes me is why in gods green earth this restaurant is so popular. I will never eat here again and strongly encourage anyone thinking of going here to find a different establishment.
The service is good, but the food isnt. Its priced way too high to be as bland as it it. Most of the dishes are just another spin on some other combo of boring ingredients on to of oversteamed rice. People really talk this place up, but the Hive next door (owned by the same people) is easily 10x better.
Pretty good tapas here I think that the wait and price however are the downfall for me. While the food is delicious I cant give 5 stars when the price is as exorbitant as it is and the wait for a Tuesday is far behind reasonable. Again the food is amazing here if youre willing to wait and pay for it however I will not be returning due to the aforementioned issues of timeliness and cost.
This place is awsome... a romantic setting for a first time meet. The wine selection is very good and the food is amazing, many healthy dishes to choose from as well... If youve never had Tapas I definately recommend it as a place to go while in Augusta. Its one of my favorites! Not too much for seating if your in a large group though
Great place to take out of town guests or just relax for laid back brunch on a Sunday. The menu has lots of variety and the quirkiness of the place seems genuine and real. Plenty of vegetarian options and the specials change regularly. Very diverse beer, wine and cocktail menus put together with care. A real gem in downtown Augusta.
Showed up tonight to an empty restaurant at 5:50. We were told that without a reservation they couldn’t seat us until after 7pm. Meanwhile almost every table is empty, two outdoor tables available and they can’t seat us? I’m thinking the owner and the manager are probably not on the same page here or they have so much business they can’t accomodate an easy walk in.Anyways on the way out the snide little hostess offered a very fake “have a nice dayyyyy”.Plenty of places to eat in Augusta chick.
Recommending everyone submit bad reviews and at most just one star. from the time we got there onto the time we left, it was terrible service. Plus We ordered nachos where they had to keep adding more cheese, cheeseboard without any cheese assortments, sweet potato fries that were black and burnt, watered down Sangria, and to top it off the desert cheesecake looked in taste like a dry cake. The manager on duty did not offer to bring out a better dish or remove items from the ticket.
Dined here one evening during Masters week. We made reservations and were seated promptly. Had the Cats Meow cocktail which was good. We ordered the asian tacos, nachos, fries, quesadillas and cheesecake. Food was pretty good....nothing earth shattering. The service however was.......SLOW. We spent 30 minutes waiting for the check and then our change back. Our dinner should not have lasted two hours.
Great atmosphere, pretty good food. I really enjoyed their take on gouda nachos. Had a really good time. The only reason why I give it 4 out of 5, is because they have these really great buffalo style wings, but its made with tempe...if they just offered the buffalo style with chicken, Id be all over it multiple times a week. The buffalo is that amazing, but the tempe is just, well, not what that beautiful buffalo coating deserves...
I didnt love it. I am pregnant, so it wasnt the best visit because I ended up not being able to eat much. They have some interesting menu items, though I wish they had more variety and less Asian food.We got the goat cheese bruschetta, egg rolls, and gouda nachos with crab and shrimp. The bruschetta wasnt really bruschetta, the egg rolls had barely cooked cabbage in them and lacked flavor, and the nachos were cold and the seafood tasted kinda weird. Even though the products are mostly organic, local, and sustainable, I thought the price was a little high for the taste and size of the plates. Everything was pretty good, but not fantastic. I definitely had higher hopes with the rave reviews and interesting menu. The service was good, though they auction off your food at the table because your waitress usually isnt the one bringing it back. Just a pet peeve from working in the restaurant industry a few years. The waitress gave very prompt service and even gave us some suggestions.Their alcohol selection was extensive, though I couldnt drink, of course. My bf was thrilled with the selection of craft beer, which was even categorized by taste! The ambiance was nice, but cramped and loud. I couldnt see much because it was dark and they tried to put a candle on our small table, which wasnt working because I kept thinking I would light my menu on fire. The host stand is right by the door, so it was a bit awkward to get in and out. We were in a little alcove with some VERY loud people, so loud they had to send someone over to quiet them down. I dont know how you would prevent this from happening, but it was a big reason we left so early because all of the noise was making me anxious and restless. The rest of the restaurant was manageably loud, though. All in all, this place is trying too hard to be something it isnt, plain and simple. Its pretentious without anything to back it up. Ive eaten at a tapas restaurant before and this was nothing like that. The place was lit so you could see, fresh and great tasting food, etc...I would like to try this place again and give it another chance, but I think Ill try the Sunday brunch because the menu looked a bit more appealing to me. I wont be rushing back and couldnt care less if I never made it back. I also suggest a reservation and possibly not going on the weekend during prime hours.Update:Went back, but still not overly impressed.Food came at random times instead of the same time (all 4 items ordered), cold and hot food on the same plate, some food pretty good, some not so good. Im just not impressed with the inconsistency. Service was great, but I wont be back, especially with the pricing. Also this place is DARK. You can barely see the menu. Also for a place with so much local blah blah blah, they have few seasonal specials and the menu was the exact same, which wasnt very impressive.I recommend going to craft and vine. Its a tapas place as well and much much better all around. I was going to go there that night, but they were closed.
The food was FANTASTIC!!! My fiancé and I ordered the Curry Panang with Shrimp and OMG, it was to die for!!!! It was so Creamy and as you keep eating it heats up slowly. The Gouda Shrimp Nachos and the Shrimp Artichoke Dip...mmm mmm good!!! We also taste tested a couple of local brewery craft beers and some wine. Ultimately, I ended up settling on a cocktail called the Main Squeeze and it was delightful!!! If youre looking for something that is strong and smooth, yet has a little bite...I strongly suggest this one. Overall, I have to say our first time experience was amazing and our hostess was very sweet and helpful.
We flew in for a concert and missed the chance at a reservation next door at Hive, but it was a good thing we did. The hostesses were super nice and accommodating and pulled extra stools up to the bar so we could grab a quick drink before the show. Josh was our bartender and he was awesome. Super enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and totally let me bastardize one of their house cocktails to my liking with no judgement. The Kim chi rice balls were awesome, light for a fried item and not to “Kim chi-y”, and the sriracha aioli was great. We have reservations tomorrow at hive, can easily see us coming back to Bees for a drink after. Great spot
By far the worst service, not just the restaurant but also the waiter. Waited outside for the restaurant to open it doors, got seated first and never received our food one hour and a half later due to a confusion yet when we asked for our tab to leave since we never got our food, the food came immediately after we decided to leave and the waiter pretty much threw our tab at us without an apology, or a simple thank you. The manager didnt bother to even speak to us. What a lousy place and experience for something we long awaited to try.
Nice low lit atmosphere. Casey, our waiter has a GREAT upbeat attitude. Ok, so we ordered the fresh cut fries, spring roll, Crab cake, creme brullee, a cosmopolitan drink & a Margarita. The fries were burnt, the spring roll was a salad with a wrap on it. It was soooo big. My wife enjoyed the Creme Brullee and the Crab cake was one of the best Ive4ever tasted. The drinks were the worst, Ive ever had, I mean ever. There is no way a bartender could have fixed those. You also feel like you are helping the environment by eating there. They are very conscious and environmental friendly. If I was visit there again, it would be solely for the Crab cake.
If I could give ZERO stars I absolutely would. I have been at this location three times and on every occasion the food and service has been beyond horrible. Word of advice stay FAR away from the coconut curry! After waiting nearly 1hr 45min still wasnt hungry enough to eat that thrown together monstrosity. The dish wasnt presented in a manner that could even be considered restaurant quality. Im extremely disappointed, the restaurant sure isnt the bees knees.
My wife and I have wanted to try Bees Knees for quite sometime and we ended up stopping by when one Sunday afternoon. It definitely seems like the target demographic is hipsters. We didnt care for the very low lighting and we were sat beside some weird and creepy ceramic worm thing with a humanish face.Their food seems to be going for a unique take on old standbys for comfort food, but the quality was just poor.Afterward we talked to some folks at work and they all said the Bees Knees uses to be good, but in the last year or so the quality plummeted. They seem to be coasting on their previous reputation. We wont be returning.
Quality ingredients with local sourcing are staples at Bees Knees. The menu has a good variety with unique items and recognizable items. There are many drinks available and the tapas style meal allows me to try different tastes in one meal. Its something to definitely try for something not chained.
The Bees Knees was delightful tonight but what was even more delightful was David Baldwin. David Baldwin is a saint and is the best server Ive ever had in my life. I hope that I always get him when I come here and I hope that my servers at future establishments can be half as good.
Rude hostess/ bad service. My wife and I recently went here. They did not have an open table so we told the hostess that we would wait at the bar. She looked over at the bar and said that she didnt see enough space there for us and the restaurant does not want people hovering around. So, we were basically told to leave and wait elsewhere. I was incredulous at the awful treatment. We opted to walk to a nearby restaurant. Needless to say, we will not be going back to Bees Knees.
This place sucks balls... Literally sitting here waiting an hour to get an overpriced waffle and a piece of fried chicken. Go somewhere else... Just got food.. Changed from 2 stars to 1... Waffle was undercooked, chicken was fried so long there was a leathery substance under the breading... Of course by the time the food came I was so hungry I would have eaten a plate of dog food so rather than wait another hour for something else I forced it down... I will say I think it may have been better than alpo. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Ordered drink. Drinked down one inch. Asked for more lemonade. Was told I had to pay for another drink. Asked for my tab and cancelled the tacos. She said I had to pay for the tacos. Manager came over and said no charge on the drink and we would remove the tacos also. I Left the drink with one inch consumed and gave the bartender a $5.00 tip. I told the manager it was not her fault that the policy is to charge for extra to add a little lemonade..
The drinks were disgusting. So we returned them and my friend asked for a sprite. The sprite tasted like carbonated water, the manager took It back and brought her another one and It tasted the same. It took forever to get our food. The food was subpar for the prices.
Favorite little spot for me to grab dinner on a Friday evening. My go to would be the curry extra spicy with brown rice! I know the other things there are good as well, plus having a drink or two there before I walk home makes for a great start to any evening in downtown August.
I think this place has good potential, and maybe we just ordered poorly, but I was a bit disappointed. The pickled cucumbers were bland, as was the giant veggie eggroll. The green eggroll and kiddie quesadilla were fine, nothing special. Steak and frites were good (the sauce especially), but I was generally underwhelmed given the good reviews. Again, perhaps other items would have been better.
Great ambience in the middle of Augusta. Elisa (Alicia?) started me off with an excellent Vesper martini. The Civilization barley wine and Red Sky at Night saison ale went perfectly with a chicken sausage and Gouda topped breakfast biscuit. Sunday afternoon 1/2 off prices are frankly awesome - great service, food, and drinks - will be back as soon as possible.
First off I will start by saying I will be going back. A place shouldnt be black listed because of one bad night lol . I have been here a few times in the few years I have been in Augusta. I made reservations for my Birthday/valentines sat the 11th and I will say that I had a nice evening (it was my bday so not much was going to get me down) I enjoyed the food, I always have, and their drinks are very good. However service was soooo slow. I grew up in a restaurant and was a server at many places before I moved to Augusta so I am very sympathetic when I go out to eat. They were slammed since it was the weekend before valentines so I never expected to be treated with one on one service however it looked as if they were grossly understaffed for one of the busiest holidays in food service. It was obvious they were in the weeds. Our poor waitress Sarah was so overwhelmed and seemed like she might have been one of (maybe 3?) servers that night. It took 15-20 min from the time we sat for our drink orders to be taken and when I ordered my second drink of the evening it took 30 min to get it I was done by that time. I had planned on drinking more to celebrate but When we were told that there was only one bartender (and a trainee?) on for the evening it made sense why they were so backed up and I decided against ordering more. That being said I will be back in the future they do make good food and drinks are good. The mule and gimlet I got were very very good. I would just warn about going on a busy night or if you have to make a movie or be somewhere in a hurry it seems that they often times dont have enough people working. They just need to staff better for really busy nights because quality of service seems to vary greatly by how busy they are.
Terrible service and absolutely disappointed with the overall experience. Server was horrible and after an hour of waiting for any dish to to come out of the kitchen i requested to have our food to go only to be told by the server “I don’t know if we can do that let me ask my manager” (not really sure how hard it is to box up an order to go but ok) and that our food would not be ready for another 40 minutes.Mind blown with the lack of competence and sense of service by this restaurant. Save your time and money and go to a restaurant that actually knows how to manage its kithcen and workers.
The Bees Knees is the go to place for my wife and i on date night. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and eclectic menu that offers us something out of the ordinary. My wife always enjoys trying something new in a flight of wine and I always begin with a Pimms cup and cheese board. They offer many choices of well made cheeses with an assortment of extras to go along with them that make for a very enjoyable start. After that we choose several tapas to enjoy and I usually end with another Pimms cup. If you havent been here and are looking for something different with a low key vibe, go here for dinner.

2022-01-17Had an okay experience. Environment was cute, but the service was uninspired. The food was decent—not enough jelly for the size of the biscuit. I probably could has asked for more, but it should come with enough in the first place. The turnover was delicious. I’ve been here several times and the coffee used to be amazing, but lately has gone a little downhill. Got a latte and the milk was very off. Watery and maybe a little old. The presentation was beautiful, but very much in contrast with its taste. Maybe I just came on a bad day, but those seem to be happening a little more often. When they first reopened, The Bees Knees blew my socks off. Had the rosemary biscuit and it tasted like something I’d read about in The Lord of the Rings. The ‘curios’ section seems a little underdeveloped. I expected to see intriguing antiques, artwork, and gifts but it’s mostly clothing with a few records and some vague art here and there. It’s an adorable and unique concept, just needs a little more oomph.

2022-02-09Cute cozy atmosphere but that’s all the good I have for it. Service was not friendly nor knowledgeable and not only was my apple chai underwhelming it was ridiculously small. No way it was a 12oz.

2022-03-19The totoro toast & their house drink, The Bees Knees, are my two go-to orders here!!! I love the vibe of the café and the open space they have in back for painting, creating, and doing schoolwork. This is my new favorite spot and I love how the staff knows me by name after just a few visits. Ive learned so much about the science of coffee brewing from the baristas and its pretty intriguing! You can tell they love what they do.

2022-03-21Really love all of my experiences here. The owner has been so careful to incorporate so much of not only the history of the town into his vision but also the current makeup, featuring local artists, craftsmen, and even greenhouses! The food is delicious (I have a hard time not getting one of every kind of the to-go sandwiches when I go, the curry sandwich and vegan BLT are my favs) & the coffees and teas are amazing! Their seasonal house made syrups are also great. Can’t recommend more highly!

2022-05-20The best place in Augusta to have coffee, study, and even play board games -- they have some board games in the attached part of the cafe to the right. I put in hours of studying here and miss it every few days.

2022-03-19The Bees Knees offers delicious vegan foods that are no where else to be found in this town. It’s unique flavor is a must try, most especially the yeast gravy. I have been many times since their reopening/reimagined efforts and everything I’ve tried has been exceptional! It also has a welcoming presence and comfortable ambiance. Try it, you won’t be disappointed, that’s for sure !!

2022-06-20All the food is vegan, I believe and pretty tasty. It is also a little shop that you can purchase buttons and plants. Very homey, boho and hipster feel. Comfortable to do some computer work from your laptop and has outside seating area. Cute place to have brunch with visiting friends who are Vegan, but if thats not your thing, you may not enjoy the tofu options. A bit pricey but expected.
