The Oaks - Athens in other cities:
Our mother was out at The Oaks and she was yelled at and her bed was kicked by one of the nurses! The nurse was able to work out a notice and that was awful to allow her to work out a notice this place was very disrespectful to our mama and to family members! When our mom was sick we had to tell them over and over to call 911 it would take them an hour or so to call them for help for our mom and we even called 911 our selves to get her help! When our mom passed away we never got a phone call not even a flower sent to the funeral home from the oaks! I would not recommend for no ones family member to be admitted to the Oaks! When mom passed away they cleaned her room out and put her stuff in the basement!
My mom went to do physical therapy at the oaks after she got out of the hospital and they were so good to her. The nurses and staff were amazing. But after my mom left I needed future assistance with some things and I showed up at the oaks in desperate need. That’s where Mark Isley and Keisha Ryals stepped in and helped me and I could never thank them enough for what they did. You will not be disappointed.

2021-12-16My mom was admitted to the Oaks after back surgery. When she arrived, I had no consultation and she had no assistance. They are understaffed and the few employees are very obviously underpaid. They didn’t notify her or me of a plan for recovery, regular medication delivery, meals with dietary restrictions, or available assistance. Physical therapist are a hard working group and they were great. The rest clearly displayed ‘it’s not my job’. They didn’t respond to calls and didn’t have office staff when I went to visit during visitation hours. This place is scary. It’s been a week and the doctor has not been to visit her. I wouldn’t recommend until Pruitt health gets their services and pay their staff for what it costs.

2018-05-12The Oaks looks nice, and it stays clean. However, I think they are tremendously understaffed. I had a friend who stayed here for a couple months, and it took several talks with management for someone to actually check on him in the evenings.

2021-11-19Staff is good. Overworked. Understaffed. Management brings in MORE patients resulting in less than expected care. Dr. Joseph saw my husband ONE time only in 2 month’s time. PA’s only entered his room when we complained. Dr. Joseph changed my husband’s blood pressure meds and then NEVER ordered blood pressure checking!! The result was LOW blood pressure. My husband’s cardiologist had to write orders to correct Dr. Joseph’s mishandling. He (Dr. Joseph) is a charlatan. He should lose his license. I could not with good conscience ever recommend Dr. Joseph or the Oaks to anyone who is still breathing. I hope future patients read this and go somewhere else. Anywhere else would be better than the Oaks or any facility that Dr. Joseph attends patients. I left 7 messages for Dr. Joseph and 2 for his PAs - they NEVER returned any of my calls. They do NOT care. Shame on them.

2021-07-21The staff and nurses are always very helpful and very available. They are great with my mom and are very attentive to her. If at any time I have an issue, I am always able to speak with someone who can take care of it right away. I dont think I could find a better place for my mom to spend her last days.

2021-03-23The team at this facility has provided my mother excellent care. She has received physical therapy and wound care rehab here three times. The first two stays were each 21 days and this third time around is a 30 day stay. The care they have provided has been consistently top notch. Upper management has been readily available to the family by phone or text message which has made her stay much easier for the family since we have not enjoyed visitation due to the pandemic. Last week, the facility resumed both inside and outside visitation for the patients. I have witnessed the staff working very hard to make this a seamless, safe transition for the residents.

2021-03-05My grandfather was here for rehab for only 2 weeks and thats all we could take. Terrible experience! Staff was rude and mean to him. Medication was given to him that he shouldnt have had. No one ever answers the phone. You leave a message and no one will call you back. Nurses do not update the family on the patients progress. This place is like a PRISON. We chose this place because it is beautiful on the outside, looks can be deceiving. The inside is full of ugliness. My grandfather came home with cuts and bruises all over him where he had fallen because none would help him. He was getting injections of what? We have no idea. The injections are not listed on his medication list that I requested when he was discharged.I also spoke with a lady while waiting for my grandfather to be discharged and she was trying to get her husband out of this place after only 1 week of being there because they were having issues and complaints as well. She stated that her husband called and wanted her to come get him because the nurses were being mean to him.

2021-12-23It is a shame when a facility can have a truck load of pine straw to landscape the grounds but say they dont have a sheet to change a wet bed. And it just goes downhill from there! This place has been a nightmare. Dont answer call button. Dont do PT daily. Dont bring water. Oh, I could go on and on but it would obviously do no good.

2021-02-15My father in law was sent there after having a seizure from the hospital. When he left hospital he was eating some and after being at the oaks he is now dying in hospice. We tried to call his room all day every day and was told his phone was out of order. We made an appointment to do a video call and all of a sudden he was rushed to the hospital dying. He had ruptured sores on him and staff at hospital where he is at now in hospice says that’s the worst place to send anyone. I would not give them a one star. I had to in order to write this. This place should be investigated. I can assure you phone was not out of order. They didn’t want us to hear from him how horrible he was being treated. You send a love one there you are giving them a possible death sentence. Shame on you for doing this to our love one.

2020-10-03My mother has been fortunate to live at The Oaks. We have built a good relationship with the staff. We were able to care for my mother for 5 years prior to her CHF illness and confusion. There are frequently new staff faces, but they are there to take care of my mother and I do appreciate it. Heather ( a nurse ) was sure to call me if Mom had a issue, when she was working. Susy, the activities Director, has been great in providingDaily activities.Examples: Having horses brought so patients got to talk and pet them. ( wearing mask ) . Also going outside in the picnic area ( masked and 6 feet apart) for fresh air and lemonade. The other great item is video chatting so we can talk three times a week and see each other. I can arrange times for 2 weeks. We have been able to do drive by visits. Shes brought out and we stay in car. My mother turned 94 in September. Because the guidelines have been followed there by staff and administration, my mother is well. Thanks to all of the staff at the Oaks, housekeeping, laundry, dietary, nursing and others.

2016-09-08My Dad has had great care at The Oaks of Athens. We had an issue at one point and the nursing coordinator took care of it quickly. The place is clean (and smells great too), and the nurses and staff are friendly and have done a great job caring for my Dad. The physical therapists on staff are outstanding. The physical therapy rooms and equipment are impeccable.I usually dont bother with reviews but since there are some bad ones here I wanted to let you know that our experience has been great over-all. No long term care facility is perfect but this one seems to be far better than any others Ive been in.Im sure many long-term care facilities have staffing issues now and then due to the nature of the work. We did as well, but the issue was resolved quickly.
