One of my fav places to grab a beer because of their insane beer menu. They always have a huge, diverse list of beers on tap. On top of that, their beer cellar has about 500+ different beers in them. Its a no frills bar, so the price point of these beers is pretty great too. Highly recommend it
The Porter has great food, especially their shrimp and grits, and their mussels! They have over a hundred different kinds of beer, and a very impressive bourbon selection, as well… The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, about all the beers and bourbons they stock, if you need a little help narrowing down what you might like. I highly recommend this establishment!
The mussel appetizer was amazing. Great flavor and very hefty portion provided at a great price. The beer selection was outstanding. The selection and variety is heavier in the bottles than draft, but the various types, brands, and styles are great. I will say the draft beers were warmer than I prefer. I would go back to try some of the other options.
Great server, lavish selection of draft beers, good food. Nice lived-in atmosphere, with bearded patrons around 30, not too many hipsters, and did I say knowledgeable, fun, attentive server? I had a vegetarian Reuben, hard to come by in the rest of the world, that was satisfying and delicious.
So, I go here a lot. Like at least once a week but most of the time more. There is no better place for beer in Georgia. And as a bonus, they regularly update their beers on tap on their website daily. The service is always amazing, very attentive staff, and the food is excellent. Not just excellent for bar food, but truly delicious. Go now!
My favorite bar in little 5! They have the best beer list ever and the most amazing fries. Thats were I go every year for my bday! There foods good but kinds pricey. Service is always well enough but theyre usually busy so they dont often have time for a chat. Kinda tight spacing to
The Porter is one of my favorite beer spots in Atlanta! They have a massive beer list and all of their servers are very knowledgeable. I had the shrimp and grits for the first time tonight and cant wait to go back and get more! The owner is so sweet and kind to her customers to the point where you can tell that this restaurant is a place of comfort.
Excellent selection of beers and spirits. They have a great amount of beers on draught. They also have an extensive vintage bottle selection. I tried there sweet potato fries fritters with a chili lime yogurt dipping sauce. The fritters paired very well with the dipping sauce.
This bar has one of the widest and best selections of beer in the State. Often rated as the best bar in Atlanta and it’s easy to see why.Food:The food here is surprisingly original for a bar and has changed almost every time I’ve been here. The duck buns this time around were amazing. I have yet to eat anything here and walk away disappointed.Atmosphere:Really cozy restaurant. At first it’s a little frustrating how close it is but it quickly grows on you and becomes part of the charm.Staff:Very nice people who are willing to go out of their way to make the patrons happy.
My go-to for date night with my girlfriend. Is a quiet setting in the back area and an eclectic dicey feel in the front. You dont have servers, you order at the bar or through a QR code on the table but honestly with covid I dont mind. The service has always been great and the food has never once let me down. The beer menu is extensive and reasonably priced for the area and selection. Food can cost a good penny but for the quality you get its worth it. Ive been coming here for a year now at least once a month and will continue to go here. 10/10
This was our day date! It was wonderful to try something different a true hole in the wall with great customer service and nice drinks The downside about it for me of course due to the pandemic you didnt have servers. However, You had to order your drinks and food at the bar and then someone came to bring your food. This place is eclectic and everybody seems so down to earth that works there I will say it was a wonderful date night and a different from the chain restaurants. that We seem to go too. I did fall for the Belgian fries... They were a first for me I will be back!
If only it were possible to give more than 5 stars I would. This is exactly my ideal beer spot. Heres what you need to know:1. The beer list is incredible. You can find rare, high quality, and desirable beers from local, national, and international producers. Great selection of all types of beer. There is something for everyone.2. The staff is great. They are ultra friendly, knowledgeable, and down to earth. I half expected some pretentious beer lords but instead met some kind and hospitable folk with excellent recommendations. We were given top tier service throughout the night.3. The venue/vibe is awesome. Wooden booths. Dim lighting. Fun Belgian brewery art. The thing that stood out to me was how quiet it was, even though there were plenty of people. I could actually use my inside voice to talk to my friends across from me. It was perfect.4. They have a dope food menu. You probably wont be disappointed here either.5. Being so great, be prepared to spend a little bit ($8-$10/beer, food $12+). The bites arent cheap and the beers arent exactly a steal either, but its a very fair price for what you get.
Pros:- insane beer selection- Belgian fries were great, ask for the burger sauce and the aioli. They even have a house made beer mustard- lots of vegetarian options- Helpful staffCons:- 3 ling hairs in my burger- impossible burger wasnt as good as in some other placesI had an overall terrific time at The Porter, but getting long strands of hair stuck in my teeth on 3 separate bites really soured the experience. Im sure this is not a usual thing but that was my experience. The staff were super helpful in assisting me choose a beer.
My favorite little beer bar. I love the set up of this place. The food is decent and the beer selection is phenomenal. Their cocktails are made well, excellent bartenders. You’ll always find quality at this place.I do feel the bathrooms need a bit of updating as they are a tad too grimey for my taste.
This bar reminds me of speak easys. When you walk in you have a long bar with stools. The actual bar has an new orleans French quarter feel to it. The staff was friendly and the general Manger Chris was great. He definitely made us feel welcomed and at home. They have a great selection of beer. And the biggest selection of whiskey Ive ever seen. If you are unsure about what to choose, no worries the staff is fully knowledgeable. They do serve food. We tried the goat cheese fritter with honey. Highly recommended snack. Its a great date night place or after a long day of work stop. Thanks again. Will be there soon
The Porter offers a calm tavern vibe with low lighting, a huge beer menu, and tasty snacks that pair well together. Our server was attentive, friendly, and offered great advice on the variety of beers I wanted to have and helped me make my decision on a delicious coconut stout. I highly recommend the fries which came with the tastiest onion dipping sauce (pictured below). I also appreciated that they were able to accommodate my friend’s vegetarian diet and bring us the Mac and cheese without bacon. This pub is a great little place to stop by for a snack and drink in Little Five Points.
Pretty expensive but awesome beer list and excellent food (beyond burger is great!). Cool euro beer hall thing going on. Convenient smartphone ordering system. I’ll definitely be back here when I have another $17 for a burger and $9 for an 8oz beer. Lots of character. Highly recommend.
This is the beer Mecca of the southeast. Always a deep and amazing selection on draught to go with roughly 100 bottles at any time. Full bar. Full pub food menu. Fantastic service.Oh, and the vintage bottle list is otherworldly landing roughly in the 500 title range. Can you tell I like it here?
It was our first time going there and it was an overall good experience. We had to order our food online but from inside the place. The food came fast and it was enough for two to feel full for sure. We tried the famous garlic fries and a double smash burger with pork belly (pork chop) on top of the patty and tons of cheese. It was delicious for sure. A nice lady brought it to our table. And we were able to pay our bill online too. The patties were not dry and had a distinct flavor to it but a tasty one. I recommend this place for sure. We didnt order any drinks but for all you beer drinkers out here, the choices are endless for that. They have hundreds of different types of BEER!
Hands down, best beer bar in Atlanta. The beer menu goes on for days and I hear the food is good, too. I love the fried cheese so much, I never get around to trying anything else. This spot is a must try!Cons: bathrooms are super uncomfortable, but hey, it is what it is!
Not often am I blown out of the water by a place. The porter beer bar was one such place. I would go back to ATL just for this place. Super unreal beer menu. Just to leaf through it takes forever. Pages hell maybe even chapters of beer. The staff is well educated on the beer front. I let them lead my dance with suds that night. Epic picks. They may have went one notch too far on a sour once but otherwise wow. The food was a good compliment. The atmosphere is perfect. Some wonky art on the walls and a pub feel. If you like craft beer you wont lose with The porter
My favorite chill beer spot in Atlanta. This place has one of the longest beer lists I have ever seen. There is definitely something for everyone. I have spent hours on end at this place with a group of friends as we try different beers and munch on some fries. There are plenty of different beers at many different price points, but my favorites are the fruit beers. I really like the Kasteel Rouge which is a cherry beer and costs $8. The staff here is really friendly and will help you find something that suits your tastes. I love that this place is open late and I can spend a few hours on a Friday night here ordering drinks. The food here is also pretty good. I got the plain Jane burger which was pretty good. My friends got the buffalo chicken sandwich which they said was all right. I am definitely a fan of this place and recommend you try it.
Great beer selection. Good food. Try the Double Smash Burger... or the Fish and Chips. The pull apart pretzel w/ cheese dip is also really good.Scan the QR code on your table to order and pay from your phone...the beers and the food are delivered to your table super quickly. Simple to pay & tip and youre on your way.
Always love coming here and its my go-to spot when showing friends around the city. The pull-apart pretzel is hands down the best pretzel Ive ever had (the beer cheese is incredible!) and the atmosphere is cozy. Ive had nothing but eager and kind waiters. The beer and cocktail selection is impressive and the food is always stellar. Their Old Fashioned remains the best Ive ever had. I either order that or a Celestial Meads mead. Easily my favorite bar in Atlanta and Ill always highly recommend.
Easily in my top 10 of the ATL. Start with an order of the salt & vinegar popcorn with a couple rare drafts. Send a few photos to the Gram, make your friends envious. Have a few more rare drafts, hell, make it a flight. After you eat and before you pay-up, order a togo box of that popcorn.
Want to love PBB but its so hit/miss. Went last month and it rocked - curry w chicken hearts and the Belgium fries! But this weekend the fries were cold and soggy, the korean dip scalding, the croquettes weird, and the duck buns oddly vingeary.Shrimp toast rocked! And the mint julep was great!
Ive been coming to the Porter for years and it never disappoints me. I prefer their beer/cider lists over every other brewpub in ATL, which is consistently refreshed and expertly selected. Once youve siftef through their hefty drink menu the food menu is short and sweet. The specials are always creative and delicious (please bring back the $8 bone marrow), while I can always look forward to their classics (fish & chips, the pretzel). The Porter is one of my all-time favorites.
Excellent & expansive beer selection. The food options are much slimmer but that doesnt stop them from being just as impressive as the drinks. That smash burger is kickass with the pastrami pork belly, and the sweet potato waffle fries are pretty killer too. Their online/phone ordering system is kind of a pain to set up, but easy to use afterwards - and who really cares when everything else there rocks? 10/10.
This place was awesome. All web ordering which is one of the first places Ive been to with that. It was cool. The food was surprisingly great and unique. Goat cheese wonders... Beers, well lets just say pages and pages of them. Would make this a stop anytime Im around here.
Stellar beer selection. While the draft list is extensive the bottle list is pages long with some very rare beers. Matching glassware for some of the drinks we ordered and our server gladly swapped out an infected bottle we purchased. The place looks small at first but check out the back room for additional table seating.
Love the food, drink and decor! They also play metal on the speakers pretty often so thats an added plus. Only reason Im not giving five stars is because of the bartender we had last night (wish I caught his name, but long blonde hair and beard). He was very short with us and really seemed like he didnt want to be there - not what youd expect from this place. Easily five stars otherwise. The rest of the staff have always been super nice.
June 2021. I used to love this place. The owners have done so much for the Atlanta beer scene, it cannot be denied. Sadly the bar has fallen on hard times due to either Covid or lack of care. Zero service. Order at the table via an app (terrible) or hope someone is behind the bar. They do not care. The bar itself is hot, humid and smelly - garlic, onions and sewage. There is standing water on the floor. Bathrooms are unkempt and awful. Beer prices are on par for Little 5 Points but given that the entire experience of ordering and serving is shifted to the customer, cannot be supported. The space had a certain rustic and weathered charm, sure, but now is just dilapidated. There are bars within waking distance with service, clean floors, AC, excellent beers, and bartenders behind the bar. Thrown together half hearted punk chic no longer works in 2021 for these prices.I want this to be so much better, but the Porter is 4th tier for Atlanta craft beer. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Porter right now, and it hurts. Go elsewhere. I will update this review when I check in again. Crushed.
The bar feels European. Narrow halls of brick, storage up to the ceiling, dark lighting, knowledgeable staff that knows how to leave you the the heck alone to enjoy your drink, and unique shaped glasses giving respect to each drink ordered. The Porter Beer Bar has got one the best beer selections Ive seen in Atlanta. The service is awesome. The menu is a tome, a giant clipboard double-sided with drinks and quick reviews. And the metal and classic punk music doesnt hurt either.Didnt eat here but it smells amazing. They even had a super rare whiskey Ive been looking to try. Outstanding!
Atmosphere is great! Bartender was friendly and welcoming.Nice selection of beer.Came here for the best Belgian fries... They didnt seem fresh cut. They were too soggy and too oily. We also ordered their Pull-apart Soft Pretzel. It was tasty. It came with a cheese dip. It was good, but too liquidy.
I love The Porter Beer Bar! And I love Jason, the owner. This pub is a welcome addition to JP. The food is great and there is always an option or two for a vegetarian like me. Love the seasonal selections of food and drinks, too. And I love the art on the walls. Its also a great place for Sunday brunch.
Ive been a big fan of The Porter since it opened. I always liked its extensive beer selection and creative food. I dont live in ATL anymore and was happy to know that The Porter survived the COVID shutdowns. It seemed like this time around the food menu wasnt as diverse or creative. Maybe they had to make it more efficient on account of the lost business over the past year. I hope it will regain its former glory.
Chill venue with rustic vibe and gorgeous surrounding area. Pretty large selection of beer on tap and in bottle. Food menu is pretty good. I recommend the meat and cheese platter, asparagus, Mac and cheese, and shrimp and grits. The the toffee bread pudding is also a very solid choice for desert. There is a beer cellar which features discontinued beer, and they are available for purchase, with a price tag you might expect. This place is definitely worth a shot.
PROS: great drinking menu- huge, including cider options. Cozy and interesting atmosphere. Food menu was fun and had vegetarian options.CONS: the booth wasnt cleaned properly, leaving a large smear of BBQ sauce on my friends pants as she slid in. Really not cool.In general, this place reminded me of a London pub, from the food and drink menus to the decor- but not in the way like it was trying to be that. This place has its own personality and charm. Id definitely go back- just now I always check the seats before I sit down.
The Belgian Fries are amazing as is the double burger with bacon. I cant describe how mouth watering delicious this food was. We had the mussels and the brisket and all were outstanding. The vintage beers were amazing. We had the $38 flight of 12, 13, and 14. Very chocolaty and delicious. We liked 12 the best. Cant say enough good things about this place expect that I wish you didnt have to pay $7 for public parking.
One of my favorite brewpubs in Atlanta. Lots of draft beer choices, and even more cans/bottles. The Porter likes to change up their options often for both beer and food. The beers are sourced from craft breweries with no affiliation to big beer, so you wont find anything from places like Founders, Breckenridge, Goose Island, etc. here.Food here has also always been phenomenal. There is a regular and specials menu. You cant go wrong with Sriracha Chili Wings or Belgian Fries, but I highly recommend ordering stuff off the specials menu since they usually have interesting dishes. The Porter will take party reservations (I think about 20 people) in their bottle cellar for a fee. All the bottles are available for purchase, and the service is amazing. All in all, I love this place.
Excellent choice despite appearance! It was my first trip into Little Five Points and I found myself looking for a place to sit, have a beer, and perhaps something to eat. I am glad I landed at The Porter Beer Bar. They have an extensive list of craft brews with detailed descriptions and, what I really appreciated, a breakout of reach style of beer. It was very lively on a late Saturday afternoon and soon became packed with many people waiting for tables and a place at the bar. Despite that, service was fast and, for the most part, very knowledgeable (there was a new bartender who wasnt quite as confident as the others.) The ambiance is a noisy pub that has been around for a long while with the worn appearance that comes along with that history. What the menu lacked in depth seemed to make up for in creativity. I was seated at the bar and am unsure if there is a different menu for tables area. I decided on the herb seasoned french fries that come with charred mayo. It was large portion and very tasty; a nice change from typical fries. I did notice a framed document announcing that The Porter Beer Bar was a semi-finalist for a James Beard award which was quite impressive to me. Ill definitely return to for a sit down dinner. One tip: it does get extremely busy so arriving early is a recommendation. I am unsure if they take reservations or not.
The Porter has been a favorite bar for about 10 years. I used to go very regularly but marriage ended that! Nevertheless, I went late last night and it was uncharacteristically uncrowded. My only complaint was that the lighting was a bit too light (bars should be kinda dark). The Porter has a very large offering of draft beers, many of which youll never have heard of. Its a dream place for beer connoisseurs who love trying and discovering new suds. Personally, if there is something I like, I want it over and over again. So the Porter might have it one time but not another. The bar food is very good. The seasoned fries are great. And try their vinegary popcorn (it will open up your sinuses). Im not there enough these days to rate the staff, but in the past they had some great longterm barkeeps who were nice to get to know. Its a very good and sort of different environment-- a good place to bring out-of-town guests. If youve never been you ought to give it a try.
The Porter is an eclectic little bar with a serious knack for bar food. From the feta cheese sticks to the pork belly steam buns, the food here packs some serious power. This bar also has an absolutely amazing beer list, and their cocktails are also pretty good. The staff here are also great and super friendly. Leo, our waitress was so sweet and nice and sets the bar to a new level for great staff. The price is on point with other high end gastro bars.
I often ask myself why dont you go here now often with one of the best beer selection that Ive seen hands down. Some really good bar food and a rotation menu to keep things interesting. One of my favorite things about this place is their support for not only local but smaller breweries. Seems like every weekend they have some new promotion for a new brewery. It can be fairly pricey but with it. I highly recommend the fries/ hangover hash/ shrimp and grits/ their burger/ mussels. If you are in little five definitely take a moment pop on in for a pint an just relax.
Their mussels were a fantastic appetizer. Ive never seen such an extensive beer menu. I got one of their burgers, it was cooked perfectly, and tasted great. The lighting is a bit dim, but that was not a bad thing; it definitely added to the ambiance. I would definitely go here again!
Absolutely love this spot. So many beers to try, always new ones coming on on tap. Their specials are always fresh and seasonal and I never regret trying them! Their menu standards are also fantastic. Staff is very friendly and helpful, the cooks know what theyre doing, and the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable.
This place is fantastic. Hidden away in a tiny storefront is the most amazing beer experience you will have in Atlanta. Cozy, intimate, and just plain wonderful. The bar staff knows how to help you find something youll like. If youre overwhelmed by the menu, tell them what you normally drink and they can point you in the right direction!
Nice beer list and cellar list. Mostly big name breweries so not too many rare or obscure gems. Good food at realistic prices. It got packed as we went through our meal and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and was not super friendly. Frequently we’d order a beer and they’d walk away before I could order another for another member of our group (of 4). Nevertheless, I’d come back for sure.
The bar is big and very cool inside. They had cool art and a huge beer selection! My boyfriend and I were impressed with everything. Our bartender was so friendly and helpful. He let us sample a couple beers and had such a great attitude. The atmosphere and pleasant crowd helped make this a fun experience.
Amazing beer selection. Delicious food. Great service. In the heart of little 5. Traffic is a mess and parking can be a pain but thats Atlanta. Only real complaint is how close the tables are in the back. Appreciate the design allowing so many in but its very tight at peak hours. Worth checking out!
Ive been here many times, often for dinner on Christmas. The food is lovely. The staff friendly and efficient. Im not a drinker (anymore), but the beer selection is huge and diverse. The neighborhood, Little Five Points, can be crazy busy. Id recommend going off peak times.
Love this bar/restaurant. The beer selection is ridiculously good, both in draft and in bottles. A regular spot for us to fill up on some good grub. The fusion foods are on point, as well as the classic pub staples. The staff always knows what to suggest, and they actually taste and learn what they are serving.
My favorite restaurant in ATL. A tightly packed, Euro-style beer bar that contains nearly 1000 beers if not more than that. Seriously, the beer menu alone is sincerely intimidating. You may go for the outstanding beer and the even better service, but the true secret about The Porter is the food. I’ve had 80% of the menu in the 3 years I’ve been going and I have NEVER had a bad meal. Make sure you try the freshly baked pretzel with beer-cheese.
A great place in little five points to grab a meal and a pint. They have a very large beer selection. One stacked with lots of great choices. Just dont come here expecting to order wine. They have a red and a white variety and I cant imagine either are any good. Their burgers and the rest of the food I have had has been consistently good. They get crowded so be prepared for a wait for a table. As this is little five points there is plenty of entertainment and great people watching. There service is usually pretty fast given how crowded they are.
I never leave reviews but my experience was so satisfying that I felt an urge to. The service (I forgot our servers name, it was a young blonde guy with a Georgia sweatshirt) was the perfect balance of attentiveness and detachment because he was always on top of our drinks and food checks but let us enjoy our date night by leaving us alone. The food was phenomenal, we ordered something off the menu and didn’t modify it at all and both of us loved it. The beer selection was not only extensive and enjoyable but also affordable. We will definitely be visiting regularly after our first visit.
This is my favorite bar in Atlanta. LOTS of interesting beer, wine, cider, and mead choices. Good flavour descriptions to help you choose. They have cocktails too. I just dont get them. Delicious food if you want to eat. Relaxed atmosphere. I dont think Ive had a bad experience. Park on the street.
I have been coming here since they opened, but I go less now. Their beer list is truly amazing. The food had seemed to go downhill for a while, but they have revamped the menu and I think it has gotten better. The new burger is especially good and I also really like the shrimp and grits.
Consistently considered one of the best beer bars in the country, and for a good reason. The selection is almost overwhelming. I highly recommend looking at the menu online before going! Youre simply not gonna get a bad beer here though. They take it very seriously, go so far as to serve each beer with glassware from its brewery when they have it (which is most of the time). The food is also spot on. Most of our part had burgers, but I also got to try some shrimp and grits that were great. The service is also spot on. Despite the ultra-hipster part of town, everyone is treated well and its a friendly, approachable atmosphere.
Wondering if they changed the chef, food was disappointing compared to my experience here last year. Actively wanted to like it, but delivery was just meh. Server was also unable to tell us much about the beer selection. Atmosphere wise, the interior is tastefully done, and a narrow through-way makes for close quarters--be prepared to cozy up with new friends. Not a bad thing, and to be expected in the city where space is at a premium. Unfortunately, would probably not give this place a repeat visit when there are so many other bars and restaurants in Little 5.
I love this place! The atmosphere is spot on and gives you the feel of a true and intimate pub. The employees are friendly and super helpful at helping you pick the perfect beer for your tastes. The food is always delicious. They have hundreds of different beers to pick from so theres literally a beer for everyone! You have to visit this place!
I honestly couldn’t believe I haven’t left a review here yet. Molly is one of the greatest owners of a bar you will meet in the world. Period. The beer list is superior to anything you will find in the southeast and the food might even be a sliver better than the beer offerings. If you enjoy drinking beer, the salt and vinegar popcorn and pretzel combo is the best pairing for beer you’ll ever have. Seriously. I’ve sat in there for hours ordering popcorn after popcorn and pretzel after pretzel while indulging in incredible beer offerings. This is an absolute must stop for any beer fan visiting Atlanta and an absolute stop for any foodie visiting Atlanta.
Although we didnt try any beers, the cocktails were outstanding and so flavorful, made with care and quality ingredients. For food we had the 5 spice tofu banh mi and Belgian fries, so tasty and fast / fresh - we were in heaven after the food and drinks. Almost hole in the wall location but so much worth. Bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly without being obtrusive. Highly recommended!
Best beer bar in Atlanta? Definitely.Best beer bar in America? Maybe. But I havent found anything better. Its quite an amazing place. Hundreds, maybe a thousand beers. Who knows. The list might as well be kept in a 3 ring binder. Come for the beer but dont forget the page of food. The appetizers are all excellent. Order multiple of each for your party. Especially the goat cheese fritters and salt and vinegar popcorn.
A MUST STOP IN L5P. Everything from the beer selection to service to the food is stellar, especially compared to other stops in the area. The front dining area and bar is a bit tight but after you take a small walk to the back, the space opens up into a massive dining area, great for congregating with friends and family. The beer list changes, so, no matter when you come back, or how frequent you dine, you are sure to find something new on the menu. They offer brunch specials and the most spectacular menu from a bar I have yet to see. My have-to-have appetizer are the fries, which are served with some type of delicious aioli. For the entree, I usually go for the burger, but Ive been adventurous before and ordered other items such as the ham leg (which resembled something like a Christmas dinner); all have been delicious!
Amazing food! Amazing beer selection! The Belgian fries, Goat cheese fritters, the Ravioli (which i dont see on the site menu), the kraut and beer brats!! So delicious!Back again on 09/17/16. Another amazing time with friends. The food was great, every single bite! Love the beer and atmosphere overall!
I love this place. Theyre always perfecting their menu. The food is absolutely delicious and they do everything to get you what you need. Their beer, wine and spirits menu is MASSIVE. Not to mention the atmosphere is perfect. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait, but please believe me when I tell you its worth the extra time if you want great food and service. Pro tip: order the loaded Mac and cheese. You will not be sorry.
Easily the biggest selection of beer in the entire Southeast US, The Porter has around a thousand unique beers to choose from and the selection changes weekly. They usually have around 50 or so on tap. Their beer comes from breweries all over the world. If youre into vintage beer youll find their collection has much to offer.Their food is as impressive as their variety of libations. One page of their menu changes almost daily with options ranging from appetizer to desert and everything in between. If youre into mac and cheese youve gotta try it at The Porter.
Simply the best pub in the Southeast. Great food and drinks. I recommend this place to all my friends that come in from out of town and they fall in love with it. Newman, Morgan, and Molly do a great job making the food and atmosphere truly outstanding. One of my favorite places.
Great atmosphere and an amazing beer selection. The bartender was very knowledgeable and helpful in picking a new beer within the guidelines of what I like. The Bloody Marys where amazing also and usually not a fan. Didnt eat but the food I saw looked great. Well be going back for sure.
This place has a HUGE beer menu from all over the world, you will be guaranteed to find something to suit your taste! The atmosphere is also very hip and is a relaxing type of place to just chill, have a beer and order an appetizer. My husband and I split the fish and chips and they were outstanding!
I love The Porter! Its my must go to, always recommend spot anytime Im in Atlanta. Fantastic whiskey selection, fantastic draught and bottle beer selection. One of the few place I know of that offer a cellar aged/vintage beer selection. Food is always amazing if youre hungry. Staff is always very friendly. Just an all around amazing place. The only thing they could do to improve would be to stay open 24hrs... Id never leave.
Really good beer selection and they even have a vast selection of vintage beers, including multiple vintages per beer so you can sample several years of your favorite brews if youre into that. Always busy at night and very difficult to find a seat at the bar but worth a shot. Plenty of seating in the restaurant either way.The food is awesome too. Try the pull apart pretzel and the salt and vinegar popcorn for snacks, or anything else for that matter.
Extensive beer list- both current and vintage. Tables are sticky, but seemed more like from being well-worn rather than dirty. It was easy to get a table on a Wednesday night and the food was great! Not typical bar food. It was nicer with vegetarian and healthier options.
Food is good, but usually smaller portions. Beer menu is big...I mean, probably too big. Seemed like there were over 500 beers to choose from and it wasnt organized very easily. When the selection is that enormous, it just kinda bogs down the ordering process. Sometimes all I want is something good on draught without having to sort through tons of options at once. Still, Id go back for a casual dinner. Not for the beer though. Relaxed vibes and good servers.
Simply the best in town. Impeccable service and top shelf food. Priced very fairly.A nice IPA and an order of amazing fish and chips, will cost no more than a Bud and some bar wings at your local cookie cutter sports bar. Great place, great folks. Ask for Justin, he is the best!
Came here last weekend but theres no wifi here so I couldnt review it then.Anyway, spectacular little place in Little 5. It looks like a tiny bar from outside, its literally like 15 or 20 feet wide from the outside, but going in you realize it is incredibly long and then stairs go up and loop around! Its magical. We sat in the back and the waiter came relatively quick. I was surprised with their beer selection; they have a HUGE list of beers, even a $900 beer that NO ONE has ever gotten (yes, we asked). Either way, I was also very hungry, so I decided to get some food, and Im glad I did.I ordered the lamb sandwich, and I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly it came. And ten times more so with how GREAT it tasted. My rating of food is usually bell-curved, so not much really makes me put a 5 except a very extraordinary taste. The sandwich was pretty large; it came open and with meat overflowing from the side, next to a HUGE serving of fries. The sandwich itself was great, with the bread being solid enough to match the meat, but not too hard as to be stale or make you pull on the bite. Meanwhile the fries were (somehow) spectacular; I forget what they had on them, but they were deliciously seasoned with certain herbs. The waiter was also pretty nice, and refilled my water as I needed it.. Id definitely return.
If youre ever looking for a good beer bar, this is the best. The beer list is beyond extensive, as well as detailed and always interesting. Theres always a great selection on the rotating taps. The food and whiskey selections are also top notch. Always a chill spot to enjoy a good new brew - or five. Theres a reason people rave about this spot.
Can never go wrong at The Porter. DEEEEEEEEP drink lists (Beer/liquor/mixed drinks). Have been going there since 2012, and never had a bad time.Newman, Leo, the owners....doesnt matter who your server is, every guest is important to them.Had my first date with my future wife there and even proposed to her there NEED I SAY MORE!!!!!P.S.-YES I DO.....GOOOAT CHEEEESE FRITTERS.And with that.....IM OUT FELLOW HUMANS
I have been going to The Porter for at least a decade and is a real treasure. I travel a lot for work and pleasure and Im really into beer, so I have been to bars and breweries in 50+ US cities and at least 30 countries, and The Porter is without a doubt the best beer bar I have ever been to. I am delighted that it is in my home city and I can go whenever I want. The cellar is magnificent of course, but the draft selection is also amazing. I know for a fact that any time I drop in there will be more than a few things that I have never tried before as well as old favorites, and I know that every one will have been stored and transported well, and will be poured perfectly through clean draft lines and that what I drink will be the brewers intended experience. Whether its Czech beers from a side-pull faucet, hard-to-find-in-bottles-much-less-on-draft Scandinavian offerings, or something from a more obscure German or Belgian brewery, I have often been transported back to those places in a way that no other bar has managed. If I see an offering from a country that I havent been to or whose beer scene I am not familiar with I know that what The Porter is serving will be an excellent introduction. And as if that werent enough The Porter regularly offers collaborations with amazing breweries such as Verzet, 8 Wired, Burial, Crooked Stave, Allagash, and many more, which is a testament to their status as a world-class bar.
This is one of the top places in Atlanta to get a craft beer. From special beers on tap you cant get other places to vintage bottles you can drop $50+ on, and of course great cocktails. The food menu is usually fun and eclectic, and serves late. Always tasty and prepared to a high standard! The only knock on this place is how crowded it gets especially the awkward bar area that clogs the only path in and out. So hanging at the bar is virtually impossible unless you snagged a seat, or want to be crunched up with your friends. So go early or go late, or find a seat in the back dining area. Also, if you want to have a very special party, ask about their private beer cellar! Can be rented out, but not sure if available on a regular night?!
The Porter is very cool. Be aware-- there are some darkly-lit steps, so unsure if I would call it handicap friendly. It is in a historic building, though, and it was a cool atmosphere. Everything I have ever eaten here has been beyond expectations. Moreover, they have an excellent beer selection. This is a great place to take a date in Atlanta, especially if your date enjoys a good beer! Even on keto diet, was able to walk away full and happy!
I drive from Douglasville couple times a month to enjoy the beer selection along with the special of the day. Never been disappointed. Staff always friendly and knowledgeable of the craft beer and foods that pair great with them. A must try if your in Little 5 Points!!
The specials are almost always awesomely wonderful. If theyre ever back on the menu, make sure you get the Korean ox tail steamed buns or the fig tart. And ask for Eve to be your waitress. My beer-drinking friends rave about their beer selection. Im a cocktail person, and I dont feel like the Porter delivers there. But it is a beer bar, first and foremost. They just happen to serve horrendously gratifying food, too.
Dont let the exterior bar look detour you. The restaurant is located at the rear of the bar. Absolutely one of the trendiest places I have been to in a long time. The food is delicious. I had the pretzel with cheese, arugula beets salad with goat cheese and the mac and cheese. All were outstanding.
Hands down our favorite beer bar in atlanta. A great selection of a wide varierty of styles on tap, in bottles and in the vintage cellar. Food also blew us away on our first visit, and held up strong on out second. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Just dont come here planning to do more than eat drink and talk as those are the only activities!
Went here in hopes of trying the best fish and chips in Atlanta!! The atmosphere is pretty cool expect the bathroom I honestly almost vomited beware if you sat lose to them!!!! The fish was friend perfectly but only it lacked flavor, the chips were inedible due to being soaked in oil and garlic thinking about it kinda makes my skin crawl. Originally I wanted to at least give this place 2 stars but if I’m being honest decor has so little reason to do with why I came to this establishment in the first place. Y’all gotta do better this could be a good thing!
Food menu is very small, but what they do have is fantastic. The mussels, arugola salad, and goat cheese fritters are my favorite but everything is wonderful. The alcohol list is the most expansive Ive seen anywhere. If you are a beer (or wine) person, this will be your heaven. There are even vintage beers. :)
We have been eating at The Porter since it opened. It is one of the rare places that continues to improve the quality of their food, beer selection, and a plethora of scotch and other spirits. The food preparation is superb, savory, and portioned perfectly. The service is stellar and the staff is friendly. Like the Little Five community, The Porter has a unique personality; one that will satisfy you and tickle your memory for a re-visit. We love The Porter.
This is my favorite place to eat brunch in Atlanta. It has a really interesting menu and an extensive beer menu. They have food for any dietary restrictions. Anytime I have someone from out of town I like to take them to the Porter because Little 5 Points is an interesting part of town and I now they will find something on the menu they will like.Theres no reservations, so sometimes you have to wait a little while, but its totally worth it.
Cool place, HUGE selection of beers!! I happened to visit when the Shelton Brothers beer festival was in town and this bar participated so they had A TON of beers!!! Too bad I wasnt in the mood for one when I visited. I ordered a bloody mary, it sounded delicious on the menu, although it did not meet my standards. Maybe I have become a bloody mary snob over time, but I really did expect better... I was seated very awkwardly in a hallway - I did not like that at all!! Customers and servers always walking by me and bumping my feet/table area. Waiter was very nice and helpful!! He seemed excited about his job. Place had a good vibe, I only stayed for one drink because of my awkward spot. Located in a very cool part of town, found some super cool spots nearby!!!
Porter is the best beer bar in the South. Ive been coming here religiously for years and its always consistently amazing. The draught selection is well rounded, and the bottle and vintage lists are worth checking out if youre a beer geek. Beers are usually served in the appropriate brewery specific glassware which is a great touch. The staff is awesome, friendly, and well versed in everything about beer. One of the most overlooked aspects of Porter is their food menu- possibly some of the most well thought out dishes in L5P. In the culinary department they seem to take risks that really pay off- squid ink ramen, fried beef tendons, are some of the unique items Ive had on their constantly rotating menu. This place is truly an Atlanta staple and makes me proud to live in L5P!
HUGE beer list. Great options for Mead, Ciders, sours, lambics and almost everything. Theyve also got vintages! The food is also great. Some of the best grits Ive had. The Hangover Hash is perfect for a hungover brunch. The fish and chips are great! If you find the Korean Rice bowl on the menu, get it! The only negative is that it gets a little dirty by the end of night and also becomes damp due to less ventilation. The best time to go is definitely during daytime/afternoon.
IMO this is the Best Beer Bar in Atlanta! The beer list is STELLAR!!! Something for every palate. Enough with the beer...The food is absolutely amazing. There is not a bad item on the menu. The food menu is not nearly as extensive as the beer menu, but there is good reason...if there are less food choices to prepare, then the food prepared will be prepared with heart and soul! The atmosphere is really cool and you must check out the beer cellar. Free Parking can be tough to find, but The Porter Beer Bar in Little Five Points is well worth paying to park in one of the lots.
Id read the reviews of this place and had the opportunity to go when my beer-loving friend was visiting from out of town. Seating is a bit tight and cozy, but the food and beer selection makes up for it. The beer list is like a book. We had a couple of brews and since we had eaten not too long before, we had just a couple of food selections - the brussels sprouts and the pretzel with cheese. Both were excellent! Of course, parking in L5P can be a hassle if going during peak times. Just be ready to walk.
Surprisingly great! We came for the fantastic beer varieties and ended up grabbing a bite to eat - the menu was really diverse - it had everything from standard pub food (fish & chips) to Korean food (bbq sliders). It was all really delicious too! Fun neighborhood to walk around in as well.
The food and beer program here is one of the best in Atlanta. Dont come in expecting white table cloth service or atmosphere because thats definitely not what they are about but it does fit in perfectly with the rest of the community of little five points. If you like good beer and creative food be sure to go check it out!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. The salt and vinegar popcorn is always a must, and I always recommend the mac and cheese on the side. Its easily the best mac and cheese Ive had in Atlanta. The beer selection is incredible. The atmosphere is really neat and the decorations are this unique hipster artsy travel thing. I dig it.
My favorite restaurant in Atlanta. Great, rotating menu. Hair of the Dog menu on the weekend is fantastic. Really bummed they took hush puppies off their normal appetizer menu though. Was told this will be a special occasionally. Huge mistake. Outside of the goat cheese fritters and house made kombucha, the hush puppies were the best item on the menu. Wont stop me from going though!Fun ambiance, sometimes busy but have never waited more than 20 min to be seated.L5P is really fun to walk around before/after eating too.
Extensive beer list, great cocktails, imaginative and well done specials as well as pub grub staples. This place has been stellar every time Ive been, and had been one of the reasons I keep coming back to Atlanta. This has to be my favorite bar in the world. Ask for Newman.
Top notch food at a beer bar? Yeah! Looks are deceiving in this Little Five Points bar. The chefs mean business. Shrimp and grits: Delicious! Ive been here a few times and have tried a few things and theyre all good. The only thing Id be apprehensive about eating again is the salt and vinegar popcorn. My friends and I could hardly eat it without choking on the fumes of the vinegar. It was addictive though, we all knew we would start coughing from the popcorn, but we just continued to eat it anyways. Youll see what I mean if you order it. Im not a beer connoisseur, but the selection here is quite large. Its always packed so be prepared to be fairly close to folks if youre standing near the bar. Parking around the area can be difficult, but my favorite place to park in Little 5 is on Austin Avenue. Further away but saves you from the headache of that horrendous parking lot behind the bar.

2022-05-04My friends and I stopped in at The Porter Beer Bar for a drink after a 2-day work conference. This is such a cool space!! The bartender was friendly and answered any question. There’s 20+ beers on tap and a great selection. If I lived in the area, I would definitely keep coming back.

2022-01-21Stopped in the Porter last night for a beer and appetizer prior to attending a show at the Variety Playhouse. We always love coming here. Really great vibe, great food and an impressive beer list. Katie the bartender was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a couple of pints of ice cold Drafty Kilts and an order of their fabulous Belgian Fries. We highly recommend the Porter, even if youre in your 60s like we are!

2022-01-11Super chill bar. This place wasn’t loud or kitschy, just great service and a nice selection of beer. Would recommend to bourbon lovers as well. The menu is small but that’s not a bad thing when the food is scrumptious! Don’t miss out on the pretzel with beer cheese or the sweet potato fries.

2021-11-16We went for dinner and they delivered!Double smash burger for me.Hubs ordered the fish and chips. It was a double win of savory and satiating sustenance.Lively locationIt opens up in the back of the bar once you clear the front.Plenty of conversational points of interests displayed (think Cracker Barrel, but a hip established neighborhood pub)

2022-06-20Went for a drink on a Sunday afternoon.Loved the atmosphere, good selection of drinks. There was a basement like room with aged brewery, that can be rented by a bigger group.

2022-02-13My boyfriend and I ordered the fish n chips (cod) and the burger. This was by far some of the best food I have ever had! Their fries were the best fries ever! 100% will recommend this place to my family and friends!

2022-06-21Favorite pre-concert spot for shows at the Variety Playhouse, which is across the street. Broad range of styles of beer, and elevated pub food. Friendly, helpful service. One of the top beer bars in the USA.

2022-05-24Great atmosphere, great food (the pastrami reuben and fries were to die for!), and a wide variety of beers to choose from!

2022-06-05Really cool environment, intimate bar with good customer service. Huge beer list. I think the food quality has suffered lately. Ordered the burger and sweet potato fries last night and realized the burger no longer has pastrami or caramelized onions. The patty itself seemed cheaper than I remembered. The sweet potato fries lacked the sprouts that made them taste so unique. Food is still decent though.
