Take it from a current resident, DO NOT LIVE HERE. It’s not worth all the unnecessary charges, break ins due to the neglected security issues(broken garage gates, doors + elevators), and overall unresponsive management team. The Standard has just not been up to my standards or anyone else that currently lives here.
I have lived at The Standard for almost a year & it has been a great experience so far. There is so much to do on site, from relaxing at the awesome roof top pool to playing pool & hanging out with your friends in the coffee/study lounge. The full scale gym is really nice, & the golf simulator is great for practicing your swing to help take a few strokes off your game. The staff & management are amazing & super nice. They do their best to take care of residents and resolve any issues as soon as possible. Also, being just a 5 minute walk to downtown is super convenient. I love living here & it has been an overall amazing experience!
I absolutely love living at The Standard. Everything you could ever need is available - tanning beds, a gym, yoga studio, sauna, pool tables & so much more! I especially love the private study rooms. They’re such a great place to do online class and get my work done efficiently. I work downtown and it’s so nice being able to walk there in less than 5 minutes & not have to worry about downtown parking meters. I am so glad i renewed my lease for next year!
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here living at The Standard! The property is beautiful, with a 24-hour gym and study spaces, impeccable location to downtown Athens to walk to class or stores in the area, and have always felt safe here!! I cannot wait until the pool is open, as they are currently undergoing some very aesthetic and student oriented renovations and The Standard is always encouraging residents to apply for a part-time job at the front desk! 10/10 would recommend!
The parking management in this community is so bad and as a resident here we could not have an easy way to make access through your home and the parking lot. There are three elevators but the two main elevators are broken frequently. (It will took much more time waiting) If you park at level 6, that will be really a long way to drive your car out of the parking building( usually 5 minutes if you care your cars and drive smoothly when cross the speed bump)There are reserved parking lots out there and the resident could not park their cars. (The manager here says the parking lots are reserved for another company named Docebo which in the same building) They will tow the cars they don’t recognize, but the sign there only says it’s a reserved parking but doesn’t says reserved for who. The manager says they emailed to residents here but as a resident here I would say the email system sucks too. I usually got a situation that my roommate tell me something about the community is going on but I do not know (which means I didn’t receive the email)The residents here sometimes will park the car in the reserved parking lot for a short time, it’s just for convenience! ! The manager usually calls a tow truck and you have to pay $175 cash to get your car back.If a good community really cares their resident, their manager team should solve the solid problems like the inconvenient travel I mentioned above, but not keep towing their residents’ cars and hurt both their wallet and feelings. As one of the highest rent communities in downtown Athens, it’s not reasonable to do that!
I’m super excited to be living at The Standard fall 2021-spring 2022! Not only is the location super close to campus and all the downtown restaurants and nightlife, it also has incredible amenities like a roof top pool that’s getting renovated with a huge Jumbotron. I definitely recommend The Standard if you’re trying to find a nice affordable apartment building in downtown Athens.
I would absolutely not recommend signing a lease at The Standard. I am not one to write negative reviews but the management here is unacceptable. First, The Standard increased rent by over $100/month upon renewal with promises of a newly renovated pool. These have been empty promises as the pool has now been closed for over a year. The pool is much of the reason why I chose to live here in the first place so this is very disappointing. Management has not been transparent at all throughout this process and residents have no idea when we will get access to the amenities that we were promised. Next, management sprung a pest control treatment on residents requiring us to move all items out of cabinets at a moments notice and vacate our apartments for the majority of the day. Residents repeatedly stated there was no issue with bugs. Again, the communication on this front was lacking and we were told at 7am the morning of that we needed to be out by 9am. Finally, The Standard has a MAJOR issue with the fire alarms. They have gone off countless times in the two years that I lived here. Primarily these alarms go off starting around 12am and there is no urgency in trying to resolve the problem. Residents are consequentially sleep-deprived and are told it will not happen again repeatedly. This place is over-priced and does not even closely live up to luxury brand that is portrayed.
I love the standard and highly recommend any college kid looking around the area considers living here. The amenities are next level and the staff is kind and courteous to a fault. The people genuinely want to help and care deeply about their residents. Do not be discouraged by complaints of noise and partying (newsflash it’s a collegetown!) because the standard has private rooms and secluded apartments with balconies looking out over the classic city!
Absolute worst place to live. Fire alarm constantly goes off in the middle of the night due to malfunctions in the system. Will just send an apology email with no compensation whatsoever. Pool has been closed for so long and they do not reduce rent for the lack of amenities. Most of these things are corporate issues. Davis, who works at the office, is awesome and does the best he can with his position to get information out.
This past year living at the standard has been nothing short of disappointing... when we first toured, the facilities were all extremely clean and all of the amenities appeared to be in tip top shape. However, upon moving in, it was the worst apartment I have lived in relative to the two other apartments I lived in previously (and ironically the most expensive)... Many of the reviews left recently tell the stories in depth of the fire alarm that constantly is triggered (not from residents, but through error in the hardware), the amenities and other parts of the building being vandalized with no consequences. There appear to be cameras everywhere, but for whatever reason there never seems to be any progress made with punishing people for ruining the experience for everyone else. The elevator on my end of the building is constantly broken and leaves constantly submitting maintenance requests only to be complained at in the building GroupMe from the sassy management who always seems to spend more time with petty arguments in the GroupMe rather than fixing the issues at hand. Moreover, the HVAC units in many of the rooms fail to work consistently and have seen many pictures of the massive standalone units connected by a tube to the window in the living room. Nonetheless, I know every apartment has negative reviews from disgruntled residents, but being someone who has lived in a couple other buildings in Athens (for less money might I add), I recommend you choose one of the other buildings in town and get a much better bang for your buck....
We pay a premium for amenities that are frequently not open. The pool was closed during the summer and last august for remodeling . . . who remodels a pool in summer? The pool is now closed again with no time frame of being reopened, again for remodeling. The parking situation is a nightmare, there are virtually no guest spots. The fire alarm frequently goes off in the middle of the night for hours for no reason (i.e. there is not a fire). There was a terrible insect problem due to The Standards own mismanagement resulting in exterminators being called to come in the middle of midterms and inconvenience the guests by requiring us to completely remove everything from the kitchen and our respective bathrooms and leave the apartment for hours during the day. There is a severe lack of communication with the residents. However, all of the front desk staff is kind, competent, and help as best as they can, there is only so much that they can do when The Standard has such systemic mismanagement. Live at the Mark, their pool is open.
I love the Standard! The staff is always so nice and helpful. I have had help from a girl named Bailey on numerous occasions. She provides me with the resources and answers I need in such a quick and direct fashion. The pool, work out facility, and study areas located in the complex have been the main highlight of living here while in school.
The tipping point that made us select this apartment was the rooftop lounge area & pool. In Oct. of 2019, the one & only time we have been allowed on the rooftop lounge/pool, we were told by The Standard staff that the final renovations would be completed over the winter, many months before our lease would begin in August 2020. When we moved in, we were not alerted that the pool renovation had not been completed. In fact, there was no communication in the months prior to starting our lease that the pool renovation hadn’t even started. Basically, this was a Bait-&-Switch tactic. If they want to hide behind Covid as an excuse, it didnt slow down construction projects around the rest of Athens. We are likely not going to have access to the rooftop lounge & pool throughout our entire 1 year lease. Its infuriating. The pool has been closed since Oct. 2020 for a renovation that was supposed to be completed at least 6+ months before then. There was virtually overnight warning that the pool was closing indefinitely. An email with ONE sentence stated as such, & they had the audacity to follow the one sentence with a full paragraph of legalese from the mandatory 46 page contract that must be signed by all residents. The quoted contract wording basically stated Greystar can do whatever they want, whenever they want, for as long as they want with the amenities. One sentence immediately followed by lease wording was clearly meant to be intimidating & to shut-down any complaints about this renovation not being completed anywhere NEAR the time frame that was told to us by The Standard Athens Team when touring the facility. There was not even a fake courtesy statement about sorry for the inconvenience & absolutely no compensation was offered. I don’t believe that is in line with the Greystar Mission Statement: To enrich the lives we touch by doing things the right way. I feel touched, but in a bad way.Further, there was no communication provided on the progress or when the pool may open again. Just lots of banging, jackhammering & noise everyday on a pool renovation that was supposedly nearly complete in Oct. 2019. After I recently complained via a 3rd party satisfaction survey emailed to me on behalf of Greystar, Athens management sent out a blanket email to all the residents. It indicated that construction was delayed because of Covid & then quoted from the lease again: “As stated in your lease, amenity spaces are provided as a courtesy to our residents & are subject to closure at our discretion.” They said they hope to have it open by Memorial Day but are explicit that is out of their control. A construction delay of 2 or 3 months is not out of the question. A construction project that is delayed for 1 year is not the fault of weather, supplies or Covid – there’s been systemic mismanagement of this project. So don’t be fooled by all the pretty pictures of the amenities because they are just a courtesy (like a cookie or a bottle of water in your hotel room) which you may or may not get to enjoy. Greystar is not accountable for anything - per the lease. If you forget that, the Standard Team will remind you.On several other matters, the Athens management has been abysmal. I am in awe of how crass the management office handles communications (or lack thereof) with residents & complaints. Once you sign the lease, they couldn’t care less about you. They are unresponsive, ineffective, & rude. This has been handled very unprofessionally, to say the least. There should be SOME form of compensation for this. AT THE VERY LEAST, there should have been a phased approach so partial rooftop areas could be open at different times. If they cared about giving the residents a luxury experience they should have handled this situation differently. The website says “At Greystar, we care about our residents, clients, & partners – and it shows.” I think it’s safe to say that “residents” should be removed from this statement.
Okay real talk: the apartment complex itself has the potential to be great and the amenities are awesome (gym, sauna, pool, etc). But I have had many a times when things break repeatedly in my nice apartment, and maintenance comes and fixes it instead of replacing something that should be completely replaced (I.e, the front of our oven has fallen off multiple times and it is safely taped back on and keeps falling off). This is due to the poor management of this facility and the on site management team. Requests are not taken seriously, and it seems that any sort of progress with any of my complaints is only solved when my parents call and are taken more seriously than me by management. Tenants are treated like children, and yes I do understand we are located in a college town; however, that does not permit the management team to treat the tenants like children who need to be taken care of. On one occasion, security was sent to check in our room because of a noise complaint (on a saturday night), and the security guard was taking pictures of us due to the instruction of one manager who had told security to take pictures of the people who were making noise, inside our own apartment (an infringement on my privacy)... The college staff that works here is incredible and work their tails off (shoutout Davis for organizing the mail room in August), but the on site management is extremely poor and as a direct result has made my time living at the Standard terrible. Do not live here, the Mark apartment complex is comparable, has better management, and better amenities.
I lived here in a sublease situation- there is no way I would have been able to afford it otherwise (individual room prices *begin* at $800, and thats in an apartment shared with 3 other people). But the amenities are really nice. The pool is beautiful, the study space/coffee bar is convenient, the gym is small but adequate, and I really loved being able to walk to campus. Additionally, the key/lock system they have here (individual locks for your room, have to swipe your key fob to get to the pool, etc.) really make you feel safe. On the downside, for all the money that was spent on making this place look pretty, I feel that more could have been spent on quality construction (thin walls mean that you can hear *ahem* everything your roommates are doing, for example.) Overall, though, if you are fortunate enough to be able to afford it, I definitely recommend living here. Apply early- spaces fill up fast!
DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!!!!! I never write reviews, but I literally think I need to do a public service by telling the UGA community what a rip off this place is and the TERRIBLE quality service they provide. You might notice a lot of short, 5 star reviews from roughly the same time. I wouldn’t trust them, they give you points for writing a good review that can be redeemed, so I wouldn’t trust it.Here’s why you shouldn’t live here:1. Fire Alarm goes off ALL THE TIME. In the past month or 2, the fire alarm has gone off for 3+ hours non-stop, including at least 2 occurrences in the middle of the night (I’m talking loud fire alarm from 12:30am-4am). It’s loud and goes off ALL the time for no reason, which is annoying and unsafe because no one will believe it if a real fire goes off. Extremely irritating and hardly ever is dealt with in a timely manner.2. ELEVATORS BROKEN CONSTANTLY!!!! At the standard there are 2 regular elevators for the normal lobby entrance and then one on the side called the Strong Street elevator. I literally think the strong street elevator was broken MORE DAYS THAN IT WAS FUNCTIONING. I’m fortunate I didn’t get stuck in it for all the times it broke down in the 2 years I’ve lived here. It’s SOO inconvenient and the elevator will go unfixed sometimes for WEEKS!!3. Closed amenities. In winter 2020 to spring of 2020 the pool was closed for construction for several months. Fair enough. But when I came back for August 2020, typically one of the HOTTEST MONTHS OF THE YEAR, it was closed AGAIN for construction. Why would you do construction in the SUMMER? And it was before class work increased so it really was inconvenient to not use the pool that we PAY LOTS OF MONEY to use during the HOT SUMMER. It eventually opened up on a limited basis due to covid and they deactivated our key to be able to go up there on our own without asking the lobby for permission which was also annoying. The free coffee machine was also closed until the other month and I don’t know why.Due to covid, the gym was closed for serval months, which was also inconvenient. Some of this you might think, jeez that’s kinda harsh cause it’s covid they can’t control it. BUT ALAS, at some point ALL OF OUR AMENITIES WERE TAKEN AWAY. Did they lower the rent to compensate for this? NO! Actually, they increased the rent, made us pay for more utilities, AND Increased the price of my partaking pass. Made me pay A LOT MORE MONEY TO EXPERIENCE LESS BENEFITS OF LIVING THERE. A COMPLETE UTTER RIP OFF.4. Maintenance is hit or miss. Our fire alarm in our apartment kept going off for no reason, so we called maintenance and they just changed the batteries and it didn’t get fixed. Our ice maker is broken and won’t stop making ice when it’s full so the freezer overflows with ice and we have to manually dump it out. We called maintenance and they didn’t even come. Still broken. There are many other stories of people having full on water leaks in the apartment and no one coming for hours.5. Fruit flies. At one point while I lived here, the apartment complex as a whole had a massive fruit fly problem. They put a fruit fly trap in the trash chute and it probably caught 300 flies on that one trap. It was annoying and difficult to get rid of them, but it is better now.I could go ON and ON, but long story short, the standard wants to make you pay more each year for LESS AND LESS quality of living. If you want to live in a luxury apartment with similar amenities, LIVE AT THE MARK INSTEAD!
To be fair I did enjoy my time living here. They try to do fun things for the residents and give back. BUT it is so overpriced for what you get and their customer service is absolutely awful. I’ve lived here for 2 years now and there’s been so many problems. My first year out WiFi hardly ever worked and no one did anything for months, then there was a fruit fly infestation problem so bad that you couldn’t even work out in the gym or sit in the study area. Then the fruit flies were so bad in my own apartment it was like walking into a swarm everyday. Also, when we originally moved in we were doing sorority recruitment and we really needed to move in early and we were told repeatedly that it wasn’t possible. Then come to find out the had a secret list some apartments got on to move in early. My apartment had been one of the very first groups to sign their leases, yet they still wouldn’t help us!!!!! Be prepared to never receive and help and always receive a bad attitude. Our ac wasn’t working once and it took us multiple work orders to have someone actually go look at our unit. We switched the way we pay for our electricity mid tern this year, and they just didn’t explain it all and when we asked they literally were like this isn’t our fault and we had to call ga power and attempt to figure it out. I could literally go on and on with my this apartment complex sucks but whatever. It’s a good location but seriously go live at the mark. The mark is nicer anyways and the people don’t suck there.
I would recommend The Standard to anyone. The management was very friendly and upbeat. Was very knowledgeable when answering any questions or concerns i ever had. Always friendly in passing or at any times i needed to speak to them. I love my stay here and look forward to all my college years here and i will be referring to everyone.
DO NOT MOVE INTO THE STANDARD!!! This place is the most overpriced overrated dump Ive ever lived in. The management is absolutely horrific and the rent is WAY too high for the trash service you get. The elevators break at least once a month, ok it happens. But it takes management A FULL WEEK to even look at the broken elevator, so much as fix it. The standard is also well known for Its rooftop pool, one of the amenities they really sell you on, on your tour. We were told in September of last year the standard will be doing renovations on the pool starting October, during the cold months of the year. Here we are at the need of January and they still have yet to start the renovations. Meaning during the peak months of pool usage (Feb-Aug) the pool will not be available. The standard management STINKS. If youre a parent, do not let your child live here. If youre a student, go live somewhere else and save your nearly 1K a month
Will fine you for anything and everything on move out then not reply for a full 5 months when you request any information. Went without AC for the entire month of May in Georgia, they wouldn’t hire anyone to fix it, and they still wouldn’t prorate our rent for unlivable conditions. Kitchen cabinets literally fell apart and they closed every amenity during the pandemic which is the only real reason anyone would even want to live here. Horrible experience for the second most expensive place to live in Athens.
I have loved living at The Standard. The location is great being in downtown and being able to easily walk to campus. The rooftop pool is incredible and they have basically any amenity you could want. I have not had any issues so far in the 6 months I have lived here.
The Standard has been a great place to live. I think its perfect for college students of all kinds. The cafe and study lounge are very beneficial and convenient, and the game room is a fun place to take a break. Maintenance is very quick if you have issues in your apartment as well. The only complaint I would have is that there are frequent issues with the amenities in my apartment or the complex itself, but it is easy to overlook it when maintenance arrives within 24 hours to solve the problem. I would highly recommend living here! It is also the most sound proof apartment Ive ever been in so its great for serious studiers!!
Nice place but could use some work. Amenities are very nice. Golf simulator, study area, courtyard, and pool are all great and add to the property. Very convenient location and definitely one of better places to live near downtown Athens.Student staff is amazing! Never any issues with them and they are always willing to help/go out of their way for you! Honestly one of the few redeeming qualities that the Leasing Office has to offer. On the other hand, full-time staff is often unresponsive and lack effective communication with the residents. Many others seem to have Frequent issues with the full-time staff. Some are are often difficult to deal with (leasing manager is very nice though).Seem to Treat the residents like children instead of tenants. Ex: trying to charge an entire floor for a broken exit sign. Most backwards and illogical method of handling vandalism. Residents should not have to pay arbitrary charges due to poor building planning (no cameras in hallways). Greystar seems to be a large company so you think they could invest in additional security cameras for the resident hallways.
Due to some of the online reviews being less than complementary, I had some reservations about living here. However, after almost 8 months of residing here Im happy to report that The Standard is a very pleasant place to live at. Naturally there are some problems now and then (like the pool being closed occasionally and some noise issues) but which place doesnt. When and if there is a problem, however, the manager (Melanie) takes the time and effort to ensure that the problem is solved and a good solution is found. The rest of the staff are always helpful and kind :) The rooftop pool, sauna, free coffee machine etc. are a lovely added bonus.
I have been living at The Standard for about 1.5 years and I have to say I love it. The location is perfect, management is helpful, and the convenience of having a parking downtown is amazing. Ive also been matched through their roommate matching profile and its been perfect both times. I would recommend it to anyone interested!
The Standard has been a great place to live. All of the Amenities are state of the art, management is great and move in day was very organized. My unit was spotless when I moved in and it definitely shows how much effort was put in to make sure the residents are happy here. I would recommend The Standard at Athens to anyone and wouldnt want to live anywhere else.
I went to tour this place yesterday, and was greeted by the sweetest people ever!! They walked me trough very thoroughly and didnt rush me through the whole process. The entire building was clean and very classy. The ladies and gentlemen up at the front desk are very patient and kind, and the manager was on top of things! I ended up signing a lease, and couldnt be happier. I would definitely reccomend taking a tour, I felt right at home as soon as I walked in.
While looking for a luxury apartment, the standard stood out the most out of all of the student luxury apartments in Athens. The standard has large walk in closets and spacious bathrooms. Their bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets are much larger than the Mark. Also, the furniture given in the the standard are of a higher quality than the mark. I feel like it is worth the price as opposed of living at the mark because of the spacious living conditions. The study area and the outside grilling area is kept clean and welcoming for all of the residents. I never have a problem with parking and towing as a resident at the standard. It is around a 10 minute walk to north campus and the arch. Also, the area around the standard is becoming more established with a new coffee shop, dessert restaurant(I think) and a brand new hotel within footsteps of the standard. In sum, if you are looking for a luxury apartment with a large living space walking distance from campus, I would choose the standard. An important thing to note out also is that all of the pictures in the gallery online at the standard actually depict the living areas. I noticed when I toured the mark that some of the apartment bedroom and bathroom photos online were a false representation of the living areas at the mark.
I really enjoyed living here! It’s always clean, the staff is super welcoming and helpful. It’s a great location to downtown and I always feel safe. The amenities are great and having a covered parking deck is super helpful. The only con is there is limited guest parking.
WOULD PUT NEGATIVE 10000 IF I COULD!!! I would NEVER recommend living here- they made my life as horrible as they could. To start off they’re “amenities” are broken all the time, and I even heard a staff member lie to someone who was touring saying they weren’t sure why the elevator was slow and that they always work (when it had been broken for over a month). They don’t respect the students living there and really won’t help you unless you have a parent call and even then it takes so long to get help. The management is HORRIBLE and so are the staff. There are only a few spots for guests and parents and they are always full. The standard is BEYOND overpriced and I would live ANYWHERE in Athens before the Standard. Also, the package room is a free fall for any package once you are in it. All of the packages are in the room and many people have gotten packages stolen.Don’t live here!!!!
The Standard is a great choice when deciding where to live as a student. A 10 minute walk to the arch and you can take a bus anywhere on campus. The management is superior and truly cares about the comfort of their residents and keeps the property clean. I will always recommend any Housing options from American Campus Communities!
The Standard is an awesome place to live! On top of living walking distance to downtown and campus, I have access to a study area, gym, and pool that make it almost impossible to ever leave! Any day of the week I can use the grills at the pool or courtyard to make dinner and hangout with friends right at my own home. After living in other apartment complexes around Athens, it has been such a relief to live in a place that doesnt have bug problems and has on site security and gated access that always makes me feel safe. Additionally, if I ever have maintenance issues, the maintenance team always comes to fix the problem within the day. With all the stress of school, the Standard makes it incredibly easy to live in comfort and ease. The Standard has been an awesome living experience and I wouldnt want to live anywhere else!
I am a current resident at the Standard in Athens and since moving in in August I have only had a pleasant experience. The facilities are above every expectation I had, the pool being my favourite. But above all, the staff are so accommodating and quick to act on any questions or issues I have had.I am so glad I chose to call the Standard home!
I live at the Standard at Athens and I absolutely love it! The location is so convenient and I often walk to class. The staff is extremely helpful and the maintenance staff usually comes to fix any problem I have within 48 hours! I would definitely recommend the Standard to anyone looking to live in Downtown Athens!
As a current resident, I can confirm that the other one-star reviews are perfectly accurate. The security is terrible and the pool is never open due to alcohol and glass in the water. It is extremely loud, the building is not secure, and the stairwells are littered with beer cans and moldy food. Guest parking is nonexistent and I constantly find non-residents parked in my assigned spot (for which the payment is separate from the monthly rent). Even if the amenities that residents pay for were available for residents to use (and, as stated above, that is not the case), rent is grossly inflated. For what residents pay, the security issue, the pool issue, and the sanitation issues should be remedied. I do not recommend living here under any circumstances.
DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!1.) You will have to pay for parking even if you dont have a reserved spot (most likely wont be able to leave apartment at night)2.) Damage fees are through the roof which is extremely unnecessary....Moved in with warped furniture and have to pay for the damages3.) I was looking forward to going to the pool a lot, but turns out that it was closed for almost all summer.4.) Rooms are tiny, gnats love to come in when it gets hot, desks are too small to do school work on, and i can barely fit anything in my room
My experience so far living at The Standard has been great. The location is great and so are all of the Amenities. Staff is really nice and maintanence is very quick to fix any problems. I am very happy I chose to live here over the Mark and I think it’s the best place to live in Athens!
The management at The Standard is extremely unprofessional and lack basic professional communication skills. Here’s my situation. The Standard was bought out near the end of my lease term (Spring 2018) and we were told that we couldn’t pay rent online anymore because their system was no longer functional. This is how I had been doing it for the entire duration of my lease, but now I was forced to pay via money order or cash. I paid for my second-to-last month’s rent on the due date via money order. I was leaving the country for all of July, so I paid that month’s rent about 25 days early. I handed in the money order to the front desk receptionist with very clear and explicit instructions that this was for the next month’s rent, and the student working there acted confused as to if she could even take the payment that early. She implied that she thought it was a late payment for the previous month, which I ensured her it was not. I didn’t think much of it, until 6 months later when I was receiving calls from them stating that I never paid my final month’s rent and I now owe over $950. I communicated quickly with management and complied with their requests. I sent them various statements of proof of money order purchase, gave them the exact time and date that I handed in the money order, and explained the situation to them very clearly. Despite doing everything that I was requested to do by The Standard management to handle this situation internally, they totally neglected to respond to my phone calls, emails, and further follow up emails with anything except a vague acknowledgement of the issue and a promise to get back with me shortly after investigation. They never got back with me, but rather, almost a full year later, I’m receiving calls from a debt collection agency pertaining to the debt that:1.) Doesn’t exist.2.) Has been proven to not exist.3.) Has received absolutely ZERO attention from The Standard management, other than a brief “we’ll look into this issue” with no follow up.The Standard management is extremely unprofessional and they do not treat their tenants as people, only as a source of income, which doesn’t matter for most students living here as their parents are the ones handling their monthly rent anyways. Once you sign their lease, they don’t care about your experience, they only care about taking your money (and possibly losing it). Regardless, take your money elsewhere and stay in any of the much better apartment complexes in downtown Athens.
I have lived in this apartment complex for two years and I could not be happier to leave! I feel like the situation was not nearly as bad until about a year ago, but we pay more to live here than most apartments in Athens and it is absolutely ridiculous that we do not get what was promised to us. The elevators are constantly broken and you cannot get into the building using the stairs which is very inconvenient. When the elevators do work (which is rare), the doors are typically broken letting homeless people in the building often. I do not feel safe as there have been many instances of homeless people in our complex. Not to mention, the amenities which cost us so much are hardly open. The rooftop pool has also been closed for about a year now. This is the first review I have ever done and I honestly am here because I am so disappointed with the response from the staff on all of these issues. Specifically, Davis Teston has been so rude to every resident. I have never spoken in the Groupme, but his rude remarks ruin my day every day. I have attached screenshots of some of the comments he has made and if I had time I could find a lot more. From telling the tenants to bring their own toilet paper (that is supposed to be provided) to public bathrooms, never saying sorry for anything, threatening to close our amenities (that we pay WAY too much for), and requesting that residents do his job, I cannot believe the way he handles every situation. I understand the job is difficult, but it is his decision to work here and I think it is very unprofessional that he constantly comes to the Groupme to complain. With that being said, I will say Angie Mercurio is an angel and always handles everything with kindness- as you can see in these screenshots.
Living here is great, but the staff is absolutely deplorable. I am constantly treated poorly and shown no respect. You cannot talk to the manager unless you have a REALLY good reason, and even when you do talk to someone, they are rude and make everything your fault. Im not sure if I am treated this way because I am a college student and not taken seriously, but its time for management to work on respect. I may be a 21 year old student, but I actually pay my way through school and for rent here. I would hope that based on how much I pay I would be treated a lot better. Hire people that want to be here and help people! They are out there!
Ive been living at The Standard for a week today officially. I want to address common things Ive seen pointed out in other reviews, so Im going to divide this up:AMENITIESThe amenities this place has to offer are great. They have literally anything and everything a college student could ever want. A gym, study areas, game room, coffee bar, fire pits, grills, and of course the rooftop infinity pool. I must say, the pool gets ridiculously crowded and loud on the weekends and some weeknights. Some friends and I went up there to tan and swim only to find people packed in so tight you couldnt see the water, and music blaring so loud you couldnt even hear someone if they were yelling. Bottom line, its way too small for the amount of residents that live here and the friends of those residents that want to visit. But of course, this isnt managements fault and was just poor design. As far as the apartments themselves, the kitchen area is VERY nice, plenty of storage space, and Ive loved having a washer, dryer, and dishwasher in the unit.PARKINGIll be honest, the parking is an issue. In my opinion, its the biggest negative about this place. Again, just poor design on the builders part. Its way too narrow for the amount of traffic in and out of it everyday, and accidents can occur easily from people turning around the corners not paying attention and not yielding. The gate broke on Day 3, has not yet been fixed, and remains open at all hours. What has really saved me is having a reserved parking space. For me, its worth paying the extra money to have a guaranteed space thats super close to my apartment so I dont have to waste time hunting for a space. I had someone park in it the first couple of days, but I left a polite note on their windshield asking them to move or be towed, and have had zero issues since.NOISEThe noise level has not been too terribly awful. Lets be honest, this is a college town, anywhere off campus is going to get a little rowdy and loud at times. It honestly doesnt bother me because I lived in a horrible situation last year on campus. I had athletes above me who would stomp, tackle and wrestle each other, and blast music at all hours of the night, so this is nothing to me. Ive had no issues with fire alarms going off as other reviewers have written, but then again it has only been the first week. Also, the parking deck is attached to the complex, so the sound of car alarms and engines does carry if youre in one of the interior rooms. Not sure how much better the exterior rooms are since theyre facing the street and would get the traffic noise from Thomas Street.MANAGEMENTManagement has been great! Everyone who works here has been nothing but friendly and helpful to me. The girls who work at the front desk are all so sweet. I know people have complained constantly about the management since American Campus Communities took over, so my guess is that theyre trying to step it up this year and improve their reputation. Keep up the good work!If you made it to the end of this, I hope it was helpful for anyone considering living here! To sum it up - for the most part its been a very positive experience. My only issues are mostly building design issues that are not managements fault, and no place is perfect after all.
It is almost impressive how incompetent management is at addressing legitimate needs of residents. Our elevator has been broken for a week now (laughable). I do respect the strategy of hiring college students at the desk to deflect questions and not know whats going on. Only way to get anything done is having your parents call.
It’s a great place to live. Walking distance to UGA arch and downtown. Rooftop pool and its view is unique in Athens. Friendly and helpful staff and management.Note that majority of residents are juniors and sophomores. A few of them make trouble in the building (pulling alarm in the middle of night, getting drunk and making mess at the pool and inside elevators, etc).If you have cynophobia or pet allergies you may reconsider your choice.
I couldnt ask for a better place to live. Perfect location being right off downtown Athens and an easy walk to UGAs campus. Rent can be pricy but all the amenities make up for it (rooftop pool, large gym, free coffee, free printing, study areas). Employees at the from desk have always been willing to help and do a good job of communicating news to the residents. If you have a problem in your apartment, work orders are always answered quickly.
This has been a terrible living experience. We have had numerous maintenance issues throughout our time living here and they always seem to have some excuse. The parking is horrible..the decks are too small and the gates malfunction at least once a week. The elevators always break. I cannot stress enough how much I do not recommend living here. Save your money and find somewhere else!
Truly the worst apartment complex that I have ever been called a resident of. For two years I experienced first hand the piss-poor management, lack of resident security (they hire a 85 year old man who can barely see, and only on the weekends), paper thin walls and fire alarms that go off at random at all times during the night. That is not all, but I dont have enough space to really the get the point across. Do not live here, if you are thinking about it for you or your child, please reconsider. These people will rob you and/or your child of your hard earned money. Dont be another victim of the luxury student housing concept, its a real estate scam.
The Standard is the original Fyre Festival - they use fancy tactics on their social media to make it look like this place is popping and the best place to live around Athens. Behind the scenes though is a completely different story. One time they had an event in the courtyard where local musicians/comedians could come perform. Only 4 people showed up to watch. They told the entertainment that refreshments would be provided, when in reality they locked all the performers in the golf simulator for hours with 3 bottles of water and no food. They wouldnt even allow them to leave to use the bathroom before or during the show.
I ordered my daughter an Edible Arrangement for her 21st BD. The front desk did not notify her and she was only able to pick it up 24 hours later. The manager did not take responsibility for the mix up. Just a simple admittance to their mistake would have been all we needed. Very non customer service focused
I have had great experience so far. The mgmt is prompt in taking action and lot of kids actually love working here. I am a current resident and signed my lease for one more year. I dont know why this place has terrible reviews but before living here I used to stay at Archer on north apartments on north avenue and I paid equal rent as here and yet horrible service and horrible living conditions with serious mold problems. I am glad I moved here! Btw all those complaints of fire alarms and pool not being open, they are mostly because of residents not following the rules and not mgmt problems so cant blame the mgmt for that .
UGA has seen its suicide rate triple since the opening of this apartment complex. If you enjoy your sanity please avoid living here at all cost. They will give you a tour and show you many very nice amenities and you will start to think that maybe the 700-900 per person rent is worth it. After all you pay for what you get right? Wrong. That rent covers your bed and the lock on your door. Everything else is paid for through sleep deprivation, hearing loss, and blood. Multiple times per week there will be 30-60 minute long fire alarm episodes, all starting between the hours of 3-5am. This is no normal fire alarm however. The noise that comes out of this is so loud and it causes such a high degree of hearing loss that after each fire alarm they make it louder to ensure that those who made it through the last one can still hear it. If dante had heard this noise he would have added another layer of hell to his inferno just to include the standard. When the alarm goes off people rush to the nearest exit and for many that is the roof. For those without the confidence to jump, they added an infinity pool to drown oneself in. For those who make it as far as the downstairs lobby they have a fire pit that becomes a king-of-the-hill like battle to see who can stand upon it the longest. Anything to stop this noise. And lastly if you run out options they have free printing services where you can go and hope that the saying death by 1000 paper cuts is actually a real thing. During your tour they will lead you to believe that all of these things are nice things they added for the pleasure of residents but do not be fooled. They 100% added them as a means for a way out as residents begged to die rather than spend another night here (the standard only breaks a lease if you die). I will say that they added a free coffee machine so that some lost sleep can be made up for. Much in the way that you would put a bandaid over a fatal samurai sword wound. Oh and they solved the limited parking situation by charging residents for reserved spots now. Their maintenance team is also extremely fast acting. Several of us have requested a mass grave to be dug to get rid of the corpse stench in front of the building and it turns out they were already digging one! You cannot ask for better service than this. Truly, this building has created a new standard of living in Athens, if you ever wondered what its like to live in 4th world conditions this is your place.
So they lost my package, the staff isn’t very helpful. It’s always noisy and the pool has a lot of problems. People bring too many friends and take up parking. Whenever I go to the pool people are drinking and smoking. Don’t live here unless you’re okay with loud drunk girls screaming all the time.
Be sure and I mean SURE you do a final walk thru with someone from management and require a signed dicument that says NO DAMAGE CHARGES ARE DUE. Greystar is famous for trying to make money on fraudulent damage charges after move out and will threaten your credit if you dont pay. I would recommend you live somewhere else to begin with due to general mismanagement but if you must....take this advice. Check yelp reviews for a good overview.
This place is awful, one of my friends lived here and I can’t count the things that were wrong with it. The times I visited it was always super loud and there were never any parking spots, not only for me but parking also sucked for residents. Just a terrible place to live and I don’t recommend it at all. Definitely not worth your money.
They are charging for a mirror that their maintenance broke!!!!! They also didn’t say that we needed to return our parking tags, and now they are charging residents who already moved out for them even though we offered to return the tag. New management is going to steal from you! DONT RENT HERE
Best word I can use to describe the Standard is, interesting. Due to its close proximity downtown their is always something happening. Between the security issues, constant broken utilities, and sketchiness I would say save your money. Live somewhere higher quality and uber downtown, not worth the $1,000+ a month.

2022-06-24Absolutely love the management crew and maintenance team! The amenities have been kind to me and the residents are a great group of college kids to hang around. By the way, this is a college apartment complex and it is definitely luxurious in college town terms. Definitely recommend to people with patience and looking for a chill but a great time. Party on everyone and go dawgs!

2022-04-13I have lived here since 2020 and have never had this many problems with a manager aka only Bethanee. She will tow you when they refuse to fix your parking sticker, give you access to park in the circle, then tow you for being in a charging spot for two hours! Manager Snow is AMAZING and genuinely cares for the residents. She handled this situation with grace and i appreciate it immensely. Also love the amenities

2022-05-09This will be my second year signed at the standard athens. The management has gotten much better since I first moved in. Hunter was very helpful when renewing my lease. He kept me updated and was very genuine. Security has also increased tremendously & just overall management has been so helpful. I am very happy that I live here & I’m excited to live here for another year!

2022-05-17The new staff is super nice and always willing to help. Bethanee, Destiny, and Hunter have really worked hard to make it a different community, for the better! Communicates effectively and efficiently with residents while keeping an open door for our concerns/issues. Resigned for the second time here.

2022-04-08The new management seems to have the place going in a better direction. The new pool is nice, the amenities are good. They responded to my request to get a second 25IB weight in the gym and the location is really convenient.

2022-04-20Snow, the Property Manager, gave an excellent virtual tour of the property - as I am out of state. She never hesitated to get the job done and is very thorough - giving all of your information up front! The property is BEAUTIFUL and very modern - high recommend.

2022-06-07My daughter has had nothing but the best experience living at The Standard. Kay and Hunter have been great to work with over the past year and always addresses any concerns immediately. It is a gorgeous building with great amenities!

2022-04-13So I’d like to address the review I just read from this chick Carolyn Clark who evidently has never been told no before in her life or has never been reprimanded it clearly shows . Bethanee is by far the most professional easy going individual in the office I have many friends who live there and they only have amazing things to say about her . How childish of you to trash talk someone for doing their job . Grow up ! And go review another hair salon or something girl 😘✌🏽

2021-07-15Easily the worst place Ive ever lived. Between the elevators being down most of the time, the horrible smells in the hallways and broken bottles everywhere, and worst of all a lack of management care for anything - The Standard is absolutely horrible. Not to mention the fire alarms going off every few days just to keep you on your toes, or perhaps management just wont get those fixed either. The only good things I can say are that its in a convenient location (besides the crime increasing literally outside the building) and that the internet is good (when its actually working). That, and there are vending machines outside the lobby that have ok snacks.I recommend if youre looking here, look anywhere else and save yourself from wasting time and too much money on a really poor experience. One star is the lowest I could go but Id go for zero if it let me.

2021-08-14I have been living at The Standard for a year now, and I renewed my lease for the 2021-2022 school year. The location is very convenient, as it is a short walk to downtown and to campus. I enjoy spending my time at the pool, gym, and study rooms; they are always kept clean. The staff is super friendly and always willing to help. This past summer, Kay did an amazing job- she took time out of her busy schedule to make sure several items in my apartment that needed to be taken care of were completed at a time when they were super busy with the new move-in residents.Kay went above and beyond and was extremely professional and courteous. I really appreciated all that she did for me.
