Thunderbird Inn in Savannah
Thunderbird Inn in other cities:
This budget friendly hotel is within walking distance to many places, including City Market. It had a retro motel feel with quirky decor and quirky treats like RC cola and moon pies. Overall, I would recommend it. Tip: Ask for your room to be cleaned while youre exploring the city. Another tip: Ask the front desk where the best places are to eat.
Kiley at the desk is amazing. As a person her vibe is everything and I hope she knows it.A stay here is exactly what you’d expect from looking online, but as a cleaner the rooms could definitely use a better cleaning system to help with guest satisfaction. I can provide details. We’ll definitely stay here again and most of what decided that is your staff, salute.
Great location! We were able to walk everywhere in 15-20mins. Some people have commented that the area is sketchy but that wasnt our experience. There is a bus terminal across the street, but otherwise you are surrounded by SCAD. The staff here were amazing. So friendly, inviting, and helpful! The hotel has a retro vibe, but the rooms are clearly freshly renovated and clean. In room we had a large TV, plenty of pillows and towels, a refrigerator, sitting chairs, and a combo AC/Heat unit which worked great and we found easy to use. There was no microwave or desk, but this wasnt an issue for us. The shower had great heat and water pressure. The bed was comfortable, but didnt have enough blankets for my taste - just two thin ones and a sheet. Would like to see a thicker comforter, but it didnt bother my partner. The biggest issue was the noise and the blinds. The blinds were quite thin for it being on a main road so we could not get the room totally dark. The noise from outside was also hard to ignore. We knew there would be traffic noise being on a main road, but we could hear everything from outside. People walking past, conversations in the parking lot, etc. I think if our room was further from the stairs, it would have been better.Overall, really enjoyed the stay and have already recommended it to a few friends! The donuts and coffee in the morning were delicious and the price cannot be beat for the location in Savannah.
The staff was awesome and super helpful. The property and rooms were clean and well maintained. Room was large with great retro deco. The bed was comfortable and the shower hot with good water pressure. Pricing was very reasonable for the location. And the location was walking distance to all the great finds in historical Savannah. Only thing I would change is adding blackout curtains to the rooms.
This was not our first time staying here the first time was great. They were very accommodating and friendly we had our dogs and they put treats in the room for them it was awesome. This time however. We had BUGS. Lots of centipede bugs. There were just a couple the 1st morning. Then day 2 we were infested. The front desk guy blew it off like he had never seen them in the rooms before when they are all over the walkways. Also there were so many we could not have been the only room with this problem. When we said something again he said oh must be were we had the second floor treated and now they are coming down. When I get home everthing I took with me will have to all be unpacked outside because I am sure they are in my stuff.
Rooms are pretty outdated and very basic. The only good things are really the location (walking distance from the historic town center) and the helpful staff (Leslie from the front desk really went above and beyond), but everything else was just terrible. Room is loud as it’s on a main road, it’s bright at night as lights outside cannot be turned off, beds are uncomfortable, and the worst is you can hear every single word when people are talking in the room next to yours (not to mention when they are yelling and laughing loud in the middle of the night). If you need a place to also get some rest or relax, go elsewhere. Also, it is very very expensive.
I came to Savannah for my 46th birthday and chose the Thunderbird and because I love all things Retro! Not only was my room clean, it was SUPER COOL! As a solo traveler safety is my biggest priority and the Thunderbird was great about that. Kiley Made my visit very pleasant, she helped me out with some desperate business things I had to take care of unexpectedly on vacation and it really save the day. I look forward to coming back to this charming city and motel! 💜
Just had a blast of a weekend in Savannah....and The staff here was awesome. Particularly Leslie...shes went above and beyond all weekend. She had great recommendations and is a warm and kind person. Im happy this is where we chose to stay and will definitely try to stay here again
First time savannah. We were looking for a nice place relatively central. Found our selves this amazing motel. Retro through through, super clean and just of the interstate. The Staff and the breakfast donuts were just rounding it up.Great experience with the hotel and the city in walking distance.
This retro motel is awesome for the price! So cute and very very clean. The beds were comfy, the throw back music playing is fun, donuts and coffee in the AM were great! All of the tiny retro touches made the stay become an experience. The room is small, it didnt bother me but just FYI. The front desk staff were amazing and the housekeeping staff were so nice/accomodating. They allow pets at a flat rate and have a fenced pet yard. I did wish the pet area was better lit at night. Fridge in the room, no microwave but we knew this in advance. There is a hairdryer and basic toiletries provided. The motel is a bit removed from the hub of it all but still close enough to walk to everything. I would give it a 5 but I will say this.... the bus station is across the street which can draw characters. Nobody ever bothered us but wanted to note it in the review. ALSO, we were told to not go 1 block in 2 directions because it is sketchy. I went with my husband and we felt safe walking at all times even after dark. We will most certainly stay here again!staff 9were
The only thing good about the room was the nostalgic decor!!! The room was hot and we told the front desk twice and texted them twice like we were told to do. Both times we were told someone would fix the air and never did!! It was climate controlled and would NOT get cool! (Kept going back up to 85 degrees!!) Also, no curtains on the big windows! The room stayed so bright we thought it was daylight all night long!!! Will not stay here again!!!
When every other place in town has jacked their prices to 300-400/nt to take advantage of SCAD parents this place holds back at a fair price. The rooms are remarkably clean for being in Savannah. Let’s be realistic, that ain’t easy, the town is in a swamp. Will your feet turn black if you walk barefoot? Yes; Swamp. Might it smell bad? Yes Swamp. Might is feel muggy and sticky even with air running? Yes Swamp. I usually stay at the Marriott’s (lifetime titanium member) and this was just as comfortable and just as clean. Not as quiet in the day because of traffic noise but that is gone after about 9:30. Perfect convenience if you have a student living in the Hive. The donuts are excellent. The milk tasted farm fresh which is not really my thing, I prefer processed grocery store standard. $15 for parking is cheaper than anywhere in town. I paid Marriott 50 to be left curbside on the street last time. As for the 50s vibe, ok it’s cute. It’s fun. Really, someone remodeled on their IKEA credit card.Bottom line, I’ll stay here again.
We ran upon this little jewel of a motel and we loved it? Rc colas and moon pies were waiting for us in our room, we loved that! Staff were very friendly especially Mark and the girl that booked our tour I didnt get her name but she knows who she is . Room was clean and they had fresh doughnuts and coffee every morning and they also have lemonade in the office lobby 24/7 . Great little motel!!
The facts: NOT retro. TINY Modern MOTEL rooms, $15 Hidden parking fee NOT listed on my booking (I rechecked after staying), horrible water pressure for showers, sandpaper like towels, price is robbery for a MOTEL. Counter girl was dismissive and saccharine. First and last time Ill stay there. Its all smoke and mirrors, folks. One star for cool sign.
Overall, our stay was ok. I have wanted to go to this place forever, and we were disappointed in the price that we spent there. Both nights that we were there, they sold out of parking. I get it that we were a bit late getting parking, but we couldnt understand why parking was full for guests. The walls were paper-thin. We could hear everything from the other room: every conversation and TV. I didnt have a restful sleep both days we were there. When we revisit Savannah, I dont think we will be coming back to this location, sadly.
We genuinely enjoyed our stay, comfortable beds, great location, and being pet friendly is a huge draw. The RC Cola and Moonpies was a nice touch to accompany the theme.Only downside is something I dont think the Thunderbird Inn can do anything to remedy, and thats the noise. The parking lot, the neighbors coming in and out, the housekeepers, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Street racing at 4am. You hear it all.
Our stay at the Thunderbird was awesome. Everything you need nothing you dont. Clean, tidy, efficient room with complimentary RC cola and moon pies. Retro feel with a cool vibe. Coffee and donuts both off the hook. The bed was more comfortable than much more expensive motel/hotels.
Its priced way to high. The pics on internet are glamorous photos. In a terrible area of town homeless everywhere in site people leaving dogs locked in room barking all day and night. If your looking for an old over priced motel in bad area then this is for you. Btw I dont consider doughnuts breakfast.
If I could give this place more stars, I would! This is my second time staying here. The staff is so friendly and really make you feel welcome! They provide moon pies and rc colas in the room to add to the retro theme. This place is extremely clean. Although we did not bring our dogs, we can tell this place is very pet friendly. There is a fenced in turf area for dogs. This is a great place to stay!!!
Clean room, friendly service, tough parking but found a spot on side of motion street just behind reception desk. Free doughnuts for breakfast were especially tasty as they are fresh baked from local bakery. So no good. Would go back. Authentic 1950s appeal. Was comfortable and clean, newly renovated. Definitely worth a visit. Pet friendly and though I didnt have pet with me those who did were not a problem/no noise issues
This place is great. The location is fantastic, the price is much lower than the other places in the area, and our room was incredibly clean. Some of the negative comments posted here are unreasonable. Its a motel, so of course you will be able to hear everything on the street and in the parking lot. We heard a drunk person one night, and then people waking up and moving around at 6-7 am, so bring some earplugs. The location is also pretty safe: just because theres a bus terminal across the street doesnt mean its dangerous. Overall, the price, location, and cleanliness make it a 5/5. The retro gimmick is nice, but I can take it or leave it.
I love this place, location, staff, experience. All the staffs are incredibly friendly. The place is very cool and clean. Their pet and parking fee are way less expensive than any other place in Savannah. They have dog treats and space for them to go potty. If you don’t mind about luxurious hotels, plus free donuts, this is the right place for you. I don’t mind expensive or fancy places, I just want a friendly and clean environment which I completely found at Thunderbird. Thank you for making my experience amazing!
I had the most amazing stay! Everything was perfect! Amazing place, lovely vibes, safe and very well located within walking distance to the the major sights. The room was immaculate and had everything a guest could ever need, they even provide make up removing wipes :)The best part is the staff - Mark you’re a rockstar! Many thanks for your hospitality and kindness!I already wish to return!Maria
Great hotel and a great value. Walking distance to downtown Savannah and super friendly staff. The beds are comfortable and clean and come with all the basic amenities. Fresh donuts in the lobby and popcorn too. The hotel is updated with a retro feel and I was impressed with the speed of service. As a queer brown person traveling with a small group, I felt especially welcome and will plan on staying here again.
Our stay at the Thunderbird Inn was great! Staff was friendly, rooms were very clean and all the retro details were very cool (like the old telephones). All amenities (e.g., towels, soap, shampoo, wifi) were there in the room; they also give out Moonpies and RC Cola. The locally made donuts were EXCELLENT and a highlight of the stay. In the afternoon there is popcorn and lemonade. Parking was reasonable at $15.The whole theme was well done, the staff was friendly, and the whole experience was great and we would wholly recommend.
Super retro! Super cute! Right off the highway, so its very easy to find and has parking available, very affordable & hard to come by in this city, not to mention the RC Cola & Moonpies waiting in your room; cutest thing ever! There was a mini fridge, two chairs & small table, so lots of rooms and seating. Plenty of other little things, like the wall art that made you feel like you took a step back in time.
Retro chic in a 1960s era hotel with cutting edge updates. Very clean rooms greet you with RC Colas and Moon Pies. Morning doughnuts and evening popcorn in the lobby will stave off any munchies. We parked the car and never needed it. Anyplace in the historic district is an easy walk from the hotel. But best of all, the service. Mark, Leslie and Kiley are the absolute tops! The genuine smiles they greet you with, their helpful advice about Savannah and the care and enthusiasm they exhibit is without a doubt the best we have experienced in all our travels. No kidding. So personable you wish they were your best friends and neighbors. Or even your close relatives, they are that cool!
Goods:The staff were friendly and very accommodating. They had initially put me in a room next to the staircase that had a door to an adjoining room. Needless to say between people going up the stairs and being able to hear everything in the adjoining room I knew Id never be able to sleep. They upgraded me to a king room at no charge which I greatly appreciated it.The coffee and donuts in the morning are fantastic, and they have drinks and a few snacks to purchase as well. The room was clean, the air and tv worked fine. The MehsThe location is a bit weird, its across from a bus terminal and there are no restaurants within a 5 minute walk. You have to walk about 10-15 minutes which is not a problem, but I wouldnt have felt comfortable doing that walk alone at night. There were also a few guys with substance abuse problems sitting near the hotel office hanging out one day. This is an older hotel and is rather bare bones. There are no tables in the room, the water pressure from the shower is not great. Bed was fine for me. There was no desk or bed.Overall the place is fine, I would have had no problem staying here when I was younger but at my age I find I appreciate what the more expensive corporate chains have to offer.
This is a wonderful option when staying in Savannah and looking for a less expensive option. The staff is friendly and helpful, the room was spotless. The location is excellent, a short walk to all the action in the historic district. There is some noise from street traffic, although I was not bothered by it. Its dog and people friendly. I would absolutely stay there again next time Im in Savannah.
Very dog friendly! Super sweet staff! The free donuts are AMAZING!! Free Popcorn is great! Free little coffee bar is awesome, too! Wish there was a microwave in the room, and a tad more rundown than i thought from online photos, but all-in-all would definitely stay again!!!!!! Mainly the sweet staff is the game changer!!!
A great cool place to stay in Savannah. Quick walk to the attractions, shops, restaurants etc. Rooms clean and bright. The girls at front desk are the sweetest and so nice. Reasonable priced parking. The breakfast doughnuts... OMG!!! They were the best!Only negative is the noise of the traffic went quite late into the night... but that wouldnt stop me staying again.
Very clean, very accomadating, had the best Krispy Kreme fresh donuts Ive ever had, they were so fresh and fat they were so so yummy. Not to badly priced either for it to be a nice quite retro hotel located on river street and that also offer parking as well so you can park and walk where ever it is youre wanting to go if youre in walking distance or anywhere on river street. Friendly staff and this is definitely my new go to place for a over night out or weekend get away with my love,
Overpriced for what you get. Hidden fees. The heat didn’t work. We were freezing with thin blankets. Donuts were terrible and stale in the morning. Trash can right outside our room and was leaking dirty water down the walkway. Would have been okay with all this if it was at least half the price.
Wow! Pleasant, comfortable, charming... just wow!We ended up adding another night. It was just too cool and relaxing to leave.Super pet friendly. I didnt bring a pet, but I had a great time meeting a couple cute dogs.Very positive and relaxing place. All of the staff were super pleasant.I will definitely be back. I miss it already.
I loved staying at motor courts as a kid and Thunderbird Inn has a great retro look with a modern twist. The room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The large king bed was very comfortable and the small pillows were perfect! The RC colas and Moon Pies were unexpected treats. I would stay here again!
Nice idea but wouldn’t stay again. If your a light sleeper or concerned about your safety (eg you have young kids) than beware. It’s thin doors/walls with the parking lot/street located right on the other side is conveniently located across from a bus station. Not once but three times (two different people) last night someone tried entering our room. Not just a quick keycard swipe. One guy was drunk and tried entering aggressively even putting his face to the window. Not sure about the other it was late. Luckily we have a large Shepherd that must of deterred them.Overall, that’s my honest feedback. Cool idea but but spend the extra dollars for a safer place located closer to the river district. Plus they charge for parking anyways so might as well get a nicer hotel.
This place is so cool! The room was just what we expected. The next time I stay (Yes there will be a next time.)The young ladies at the desk where awesome! They gave us great places to eat. We were tired and didnt want to outto eat that night. She recommended Screaming Mimis. The food was awesome the food got there in record time.Breakfast was cute. Donuts that were done for Halloween. Real coffee cups and juice glasses.I cant say enough good about this place.Again cant wait for my return visit.Thank you Thunderbird Inn.
Must stay if traveling with a pet! Perfect location to walk to historic district or river street. Less than 10min walk! Loved the retro theming and small details they do to bring it all together. Rates were great and the free donut and coffee breakfast is a nice thing to have to get your day going. Bathrooms are a little on the smaller side but other than that its awesome. Plus the dog park outside the front desk is amazing for easy dog pee breaks and play time!
I proactively booked three nights but ultimately decided Id done what I wanted to do in the city after two nights - the manager was wonderfully gracious in allowing me to cancel and refunded me for the third night I didnt stay for. How many hotels these days would do that?! So kind. Its a super darling hotel with a fun retro theme and delicious donuts for breakfast. What more could you ask for?!
Very historical and remodeled all at the same time. Reto and welcoming. The desk clerks were professional and kind. Due to the pandemic daily housekeeping was at a minimum, but Moon Pies could still be retrieved from the front desk. They also had popcorn and lemonade as a complimentary snack each night, oldies but goodies play over the PA in the parking lot. The rooms were clean and spacious. Everything was with in walking distance. We didnt have to move our car. If you forgot something like a toothbrush, comb etc. Theres a Family Dollar across the street. If you dont drive at all and would like to visit Savannah it directly in front of the Greyhound bus station. I see why the Jackson Five stayed here. This was a girls trip, I will use them again for a family visit. Also clean pets are welcome and have treat dish at the desk.
We had an amazing experience. Its hard traveling with dogs sometimes. So its nice when you find a place that welcomes them with open arms. They provided treats, and souvenir tags. We stayed 4 nights, and the pet fee for the whole time was $50. Most other places in the area charge that a night. We were excited to arrive to see what we were getting ourselves in to. Super cute and quaint inside and out. Definitely a place that you need to experience to understand the vibe. Staff was extremely friendly. Room was very clean. The slight hint of bleach was refreshing, I kbow that may seem weird, but it spoke to their cleanliness.. Within walking distance to everything.
This place was so filthy. I always pull back the sheets at a hotel room and the mattress pad was covered in hair and the mattress was stained. The outlet next to the bed was broken so we had to charge our phones across the room. The HVAC was leaking so there was a huge puddle on the vanity. There was hair in the shower. The whole place just looked grimy and sad. I expected a cute retro roadside motel and this was not it.
It was clean, comfortable and convenient. It Offered exactly what the website stated! Lemonade and popcorn.Fresh donuts and coffee was available in the morning as stated. Parking is small yet must be reserved for each night. Decal display on dashboard. Covid has eliminated breakfast bars at hotels read and search for exactly what you desire. Dont complain about amenities that wasnt offered in the first place.
Thank you Kylie .. friendly service! Beautiful rooms. Old time beautiful melodies takes me back to my childhood and wonderful memories of that “ special time” in my life. Folks today I feel like Cinderella! My beau picked this adorable slice of heaven.. amazing! ❤️😇FAZ
I thought this “retro” stay might be fun for a night for my kids, but I was sooooo wrong. Our first room smelled so strongly of bleach it made me and one of my daughters ill. I wondered why the bleach smell was so strong and looked around, and in the ac unit there was black mold - yes it was mold and it wiped off when I used a towel to check. I reported it to the office and Leslie showed me two other rooms - one smelled like a dirty bathroom and the other didnt really smell bad so I reluctantly took that one. I thought we could make it through one night, but we didn’t.We went it for a few hours and came back with pizza. We were eating and watching tv and I realized my daughters socks were black. I had her get a wet washcloth and wipe the floor to see how bad the floor was and when she lifted it up, it was disgusting - I took a video to prove it just in case they didnt give me a refund. I started looking around the room and the bathroom vent was gross, the corners of the room were dirty, there was mold in the ac unit in that room too, and the water was brown (this was explained as a rusty water heater which is still unacceptable). I informed Leslie I was checking out and would find another place to stay - this was 10:30pm. She was very apologetic, offered another room which I declined, and gave me a full refund.
Positive: Location, donuts, taking me back to the 60s. Loved that. Negative: The ac was lagging. My family likes it pretty cold.and after walking all day in the sun. It seemed it just couldnt Handel it. Paying for parking. If Im renting a room I shouldnt have to reserver a spot that should co.e with room.
This place was great! Very clean, staff was masked. We stayed one night with our dog and 3 cats as were moving out of state. Our dog was given a peanut butter and bacon dog treat. They offered food and bowls for the pets as well. They also have coffee and donuts in the morning. The bed was very comfortable as well! The only downside is that if you have cats that like to hide, there is a small space behind the bed ours kept running to. There was also a way for them to get behind the sink (which is outside the bathroom) where there is no way for us to reach them. We had to coax them out with food.
I would have done 5. It was a good stay but for the price. I couldnt turn my light out unless by removing the bulb. The showers were great. Expt the big Waterbug like roach was crawling around my foot. And the ac during the day seem to lack the powerful cold. And for that price I could have cone to a higher stare hotel. And I paid for parking. Was not needed and I think the clerks knew that but said nothing. I loved staying there but will not again because of price u could stay closer to river street. Wich sucks cause atmosphere was there was great.
It was ok. We stayed here Wednesday and checked out this past Thursday. At first glance, the room had character and cable, lol. It was designed nice and obviously cleaned better than most…during my stay, I re clean any room I’m in with bleach, Clorox wipes…ect, so the ac unit was leaking and beginning to build up mold,,,which was so gross to clean. Also, it’s pet friendly and I don’t believe they have designed rooms for animals so a pee odor lingered around the refrigerator ugh! The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly. It was not worth $170. The Hyatt next door was posting rooms at $180. The location was the best part for sure.
Super nice and very very dog friendly. We loved the retro feel and look. The staff was very nice. Rooms where very clean. In your room you get free rc colas and moon pies. Close to downtown shops and restaurants. If you are looking for a place to go and take your dogs that is not super expensive then the thunderbird Inn is it !!! 🐕🦺
On our travels, we buy local, eat local, and when we can - we lodge local. We eschewed the close-by Hamptons and Marriotts and spent the night at Savannahs Thunderbird Inn.So cute with a vintage vibe, the Thunderbird is all modern on the inside, refreshingly throw-back chic on the outside. We stayed here because of its pet-friendly policy. We also got comfy beds, very clean rooms, in-room coffee, as well as a close proximity to the historic district. The lobby is bright, well-lit, and staffed 24-hours. Wonderful, bakery-fresh pastries are available too, along with juices and hot coffee. There is also a small area for pets to walk and do their duties. Just know this pet area isnt big. We had to walk our dog around on the sidewalks and down to a local garden near the SCAD Mail Center, which isnt far away at all. We will certainly book again if our travels take us back to Savannah.
Super cute hotel with very inviting staff. Photo worthy decorated rooms and exterior. Donuts for breakfast was definitely appreciated! Refilled shampoo, conditioner, and body wash smelled amazing and was nice to see a step to sustainability for a hotel. Paid to park on site and walked to the river for dinner and shopping. Ten minute walk or short drive to shops, bars, and restaurants.Street is very loud all day and night. Was kept up by a loud hotel guest until 4 am in the parking lot, was strange for a Sunday evening. Bring earplugs or get a room tucked away.
My wife and I came to Savannah and chose the Thunderbird because of its price and location and it did not disappoint. The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere is really hip/fun . Its location is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from anything you would want to do downtown (by far the best price you will find in the area). If you were cool with an old school small room with an outside door, then save a few bucks and stay here.
We loved this place because I love the retro vibe. Rooms were awesome that carried on the retro decor. Very clean and loved the 50/60 music they played outside. We were able to walk all over the historical area and down to the river walk. Complimentary moon pie and RC cola on arrival. Rates were reasonable. We would definitely stay here again. We could also enter our room from the outside without worrying about encountering people on elevators and such with the social distancing due to COVID.
Such a fun spot. I work in the industry so I pay attention and these folks do it right. Moonpie on the pillow and a cold RC Cola by the bed. Breakfast is good coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts. Its located close enough to Uber cheaply but not in the party zone. Close to SCAD but so is much of historic Savannah. Rates are decent.Rooms are very clean, bed was comfy, great TV. Fridge in room but no microwave (you use the one located in the lobby, it wasnt a issue)Very pet friendly. They even carry treats for the doggies.
The Thunderbird Inn was ok. It would be 2 stars, except the staff was genuinely super nice and helpful. The room decor is cool, they have Thunderbird Inn memorabilia for sale and they pipe 50s and 60s tunes into the parking lot. BUT, the pullout sofa bed didnt come with linens, the Sleeps 4 room had two towels in the bathroom. That stuff, those types of details make a difference. Branded retro room keys for sale make you a tourist trap, not a hip boutique hotel.
Positive: The Thunderbird was so cute. Love the retro feel and decor. Close to tons of restaurants, shops and activities. Would definitely stay here again. Negative: Only thing I didn¿t care for was the air conditioning system. I changed the temperature and the lowest it would go is 68 (I¿m very hot natured) and it would only stay at that temperature for a couple of hours.
My kids loved the RC Cola and Moon pies that were in the room on check in. They enjoyed the free popcorn and lemonade available as well. The room was hot! We couldnt change the temperature on the swamp cooler and it didnt cool down until we put towels in front of the gap under the door into the room. The staff was very friendly even when I had a little sticker shock about the $15 extra for parking. They had doughnuts and juice in the morning for everyone to enjoy. It was a great place to stop on our way to Florida.
The hotel lists had hidden fees that were not up front during the booking process. Most notably they were tagged on as having free parking in the search engine I used to find them but then charged 15$ per day for parking when I arrived. After reviewing the fine print for the hotel it did show there was a 15$ fee for parking. But still I feel like they should not show up when you search for free parking.
I really enjoyed my stay here. The theme is great. There are two mini moon pies & 2 RC Colas in the rooms with one bed. Towels, sink, toilet and tub were clean. The shower had a shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispenser. There was an in room hairdryer, but nothing to iron with. There was pet hair and a stain on the top cover of the bed. I just took it off. The vibe was realIy cool and the staff was super friendly. I would stay here again and I would recommend it to my friend.
The only reason Im giving it a 2 star instead of 1 is that the staff was super nice and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Other than that... the floor was filthy, the shower head was so bad it was almost useless, the location was very bad with lots of homeless people and there was a lot of additional fees that we didnt know about until it was to late. Stay away...
Cute little retro hotel. A/C is not the best but does the job. The bathroom floor gets soaked anytime the shower is one since there is no real lip around the tub. Walls are pretty thin. Staff is the best super sweet and super helpful. Not walking distance to the busy main streets but not to fair that you could walk of willing. Next to a bus station. Usually pretty clean. Decent lightning.
Best throwback place. A real 1960s feel. The furniture was cool and comfortable. And the att mr Jim was cool cat. Loved my stay and im a difficult person to please. It was a little expensive for two pple but bus broke down accros the street but was very conviniant for the area
The location of this hotel is great for getting out into the downtown area on foot. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. This place was also excellent since we were traveling with our dog and they are super pet friendly. There is a small fenced in yard for pets to run around or relieve themselves. They provided us with a really nice Brindle pet bed and stainless steel bowls to use for our dog during our stay. They even gave us a homemade dog treat made by a local baker which our dog loved. The only potential issue is the noise level on the street the hotel sits on. If you are a good sleeper or if earplugs work for you it shouldnt be a problem.
This hotel was perfect for our roadtrip and wish we could have stayed a few more days. We loved the dog park area on the side, the doggies treats at check in, and how clean te room was! Great theme and great sleep with comfy beds! We highly recommend staying here and its close to everything!
If you are going to Savannah then you gotta stay here. The Ritz it aint, but you will feel comfy and the staff are great. The room even comes with RC cola and Moonpies. My wife approves of the coffee too. Close to the historic district and the river front so you can leave the car at the motel and walk.
If you call in check in time, someone else will answer the phone and take a message for the front desk to call you back. I wasnt able to find a room with a double bed on booking.com, but I was able to eventually secure one by calling directly. I paid about the average rate despite being last minute, and a $15 parking fee on top of that. Considering we were within walking distance of historic down town Savannah and the Savannah River, to me it seemed a fair price. They were also kind enough to let us stay parked there after the check out time- long enough for my cousin and I to find and wrangle a late breakfast in the downtown area before we hit the road. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The exterior had retro music, well maintained decor, and the sign lit up in neon after dark. Two complimentary cans of soda were waiting for us in the room. Coffee and juice were offered in the morning. The staff was friendly and professional. The wifi worked well enough for me to use discord. The showers had a good pressure, and the water was hot.During the outbreak, be flexible with your restaurant arrangements. Some are closed all together. Some are open to dine in with reduced seating. And some are open at reduced hours, or only for take out. We found our meals as we walked around, but otherwise I would recommend calling ahead if you are on a tight schedule.
I requested drinks and snacks in the room as a surprise for when my girlfriend and I arrived and they were there chilling for a reasonable price! The front desk was great, and we took advantage of the free Krispy Kreme donuts and popcorn. They allowed us to check in at 1PM too which was fantastic. Thank you Thunderbird! This is now my favorite place to stay in Savannah on my college student budget.
The retro thing was intense, incorporated into every element.Free coffee & donuts in the morning was a nice touch.Selling bottles of wine in the lobby was another.Definitely an aesthetic, photogenic place! However, they are charging prices comparable to the Orlando Marriott, but the Marriott provides high quality housekeeping and will do your grocery shopping for you, for a 1bdrm suite! The room we stayed in here was not exactly clean, as much as it was just cleaned up, but the full sized refilled shower necessities was awesome.Fun amenities, no pool or anything (it is an updated motel) but the ice machine worked.
This is a cute little hotel on the northwest side of the historic district. Everything is adorable. The staff is super helpful. Dog-friendly! Plus affordable! The only reason I havent given 5 stars are basic amenities. The room we stayed in didnt have a closet/clothes pole/coat rack/hangers of any type. We cane for a wedding and had things to hang, so we had to use light fixtures and the shower rod to hang things up. We had very poor water pressure as well. The blinds are super cute and authentic to the theme, but couldnt keep light out.
Ok for a quick stay. Love the retro feel. Rooms are spacious, bathrooms are really small. Cleanliness of rooms could definitely be better. They are clean but not enough attention to details like corners and stray hairs. Quiet at night. Close enough to enjoy downtown without a car.
- Stayed here in April of 2017 with my boyfriend- Staff is friendly and nice- Unique atmosphere, so fun they give you RC cola and moon pies in your room it has that motel feel but the rooms are rather updated- Bathroom is VERY small/tiny at least in the 1 king bed room we had- Doors are directly to the outside, so just know that going in- Parking looks like it could get a little tight, it was crowded the weekend we were there- It is a bit of a hike to get to the main spots of Savannah if you want to walk it is at least a mile or so but it is a quick Uber!- Overall it is a fun little experience to stay here but the bathroom was so small and could use a little more updating for me to stay here again
Staff were so nice and welcoming, gave us great advice on places to visit while here for the night. The location is within walking distance to the riverwalk and multiple parks (5 min walk). The style of the motel is adorable. The room was clean and the is bed comfy. Breakfast was Krispy Kreme donuts, juice and coffee. Better than the wet eggs normally served for continental breakfasts. There were dogs on the property but I never heard a single bark.
Pros- great location, good check out time(11), comfortable beds, retro vibe with coffee and donuts too and great front desk customer service. Cons- very small parking with limited space to get out of your car, no closet, course toliet paper that doesnt roll, no curtains (only blinds...too much light at night), broken soap dispenser, and heater returned to cold temps in the middle of the night( may have been my fault?).
Waited almost two hours until nearly 5 pm on Friday until room was ready. Door had been open all afternoon in 90+ heat. So hot we had to leave for a few more hours. We had to borrow a bed sheet from housekeeping to cover disgusting couch. Bathroom and the rest of the room were clean. Air conditioner never really cooled the room in the two days we were there. Controls on AC are scammed to reset to 76 every couple hours. That you can bypass by clicking hold ever couple hours, but old undersized wall unit never did clear the humidity or really cool the room. The staff were great....that was the upside. Front desk and housekeeping, although severely understaffed, were courteous and as helpful as they could be. Ownership/management cannot be good. Utility and maintenance rooms with doors left open were scary and evidence of a very poorly operated hotel. I wont be back or recommend it. The employees working there were honestly trying hard though. For them I upped it a star. Also - be prepared for frequent sirens and we saw two police chases in two days. It is very near great areas, but not in one.
I was so excited to stay at this motel , to step out of the norm with regular hotels. I had read so many reviews and was excited about my birthday weekend in Savannah . Upon check in the staff was nice and friendly. But our room was horribly dirty . Not a problem we went back down to the front desk and got a new room . Our second room was worse than the first with huge hair clots in the corner of the room. The night stand had what looked pubic hair . The floor was filthy. Now I did not go to this motel looking for 4 star quality but did expect a clean room let alone the 2nd room to be clean . The front desk staff was very nice and apologetic but just made my birthday alot more stressful trying to find another place to stay last minute . Maybe they could just focus on their quality of cleanliness and this place could be awesome.
We loved our stay here! We were treated very well by the employees, and the retro ambience of the inn made us feel like we had been transported back in time! We felt that the Krispy Kreme donuts in the morning were a nice touch, as were the complementary popcorn and lemonade. We have a compact car, so we had no issue with parking . Furthermore, the hotel is in the historic district and is within walking distance from almost everywhere we went. Although the inn is across the street from the bus station, we barely noticed it at all. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will be returning in the future. If youre not a high maintenance individual, you will most likely enjoy this hotel!
An excellent experience. Thunderbird goes above and beyond in keeping to the retro theme at a very reasonable price.Only downside, which I wish had been more obvious in the booking, is that theres a $50 pet fee (if youre bringing along a pet). This is on top of whatever you pay when you book. This bumped up the price from $90 to $140 which is a pretty big jump.
We stayed at the Thunderbird for 3 nights - strolled to the waterfront, though the historic district, and to area breweries and restaurants. We were with our dog - this is a GREAT dog friendly hotel. Minimal breakfast area, no meeting area - but great for traveling with a dog.
The staff was polite, friendly, and seemed to genuinely want you to have a great time in their city. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. Its not the most luxurious hotel, but its a great place with a fun theme. Its close to everything but far enough to be quiet at nights. When we go back to Savannah we will look at the Thunderbird Inn again.
We have stayed here a few times - its always clean and the staff are amazing and friendly. We brought our dogs for the first time for our most recent visit and they were super sweet to the dogs, gave the treats and little heart tags for their collars. They also have a tiny fenced in area with a water bowl and poop bags for the dogs as well. This is one of the cleanest and affordable hotels that is a short walk to River Street.
I think this is the best hotel Ive been to so far in Savannah. Whoever said that the cleanliness of the rooms can improve could never be more wrong. The bathroom floors were so clean I could literally eat off them. It was a wonderful and exciting experience for me. I got comfort with a little historical touch. The staff were the best attitude having people Ive met in my life. If I was to recommend the best hotel this one would be #1 on my list.
This was a great place to stay! The staff was incredibly kind and attentive! Everything was very clean, but the rooms could have had a bit more of a retro feel, overall everything was impeccable! Unlimited popcorn and lemonade, Krispy Kreme for breakfast, and old music playing over the outside speakers were all a plus!
Great value! Great Location! I was a little surprised at how easy it was to get around in Savannah, and The Thunderbird Inn is prime for making Savannah affordable. Sure, I want to stay in one of those mansion inns but really cant afford to stay for any length of time. The rooms are decorated with a hipster flair, which is just fun. I will agree that the bathrooms are tiny, but they were functional. Thats all you really need.I read some reviews that it was loud and I was worried about that, but we didnt notice the buses or the music at all. Didnt even hear other guests and on the weekend it was packed! The beds were comfy, the only thing is that the linens need to be deep pocket so I dont have to make my bed in the night because the corners are flipping up.The staff was helpful and friendly. I would recommend The Thunderbird Inn to anyone looking for a great value with a great location in Savannah.
Was told when I arrived that I would have to park on the street a half block away because I didnt reserve a parking space. It was raining when we arrived at about 8:30pm and there was nowhere to unload out of the rain. Bathroom had red and black mold growing around the tub (see pics). After being in the room approx. 15 mins we heard water hitting the floor in the bathroom, it was a steady stream of water pouring from light fixture overhead (see pics). Was told there were no other rooms and that the manager would be there at 11pm if we wanted to talk with her. Went to dinner and came back to see the manager at 11pm and they now had a replacement room. Replacement room had footprints or some kind of stains all over the bed (see pics). At that point we were exhausted and fed-up with the whole situation. We asked for a refund since they couldnt give us a suitable place to stay and ventured out into the night at nearly 12am with nowhere to stay looking for another hotel with vacancy. I would have rather slept in my car than stay in this place. This was not the quality I expected for what we were paying per night, at best this is a $50-$60 per night motel. Beware, this place has a great marketing strategy with their pics and vivid descriptions on both their website and at booking sites. Read any and all of their negative reviews before making a decision to stay here.
What a fun place to stay. Retro look and feel, except for the bed, which was really comfortable. Krispy Kreme donuts for breakfast was a great touch. Parking is a small fee (much less than the surrounding hotels charge) and they have a dog park. Dont stay if you need absolute quiet to sleep.since the hotel is on a busy street. I slept soundly through the night myself.
Beautiful retro hotel. The room was very clean and we appreciated the flooring not being carpet. Made the room feel more clean and look more in keeping with the overall feel of the hotel. We were able to walk into the historic district in a short time but were also close to the visitors center and a trolly stop.We enjoyed our stay!
What a gem! While planning our trip we had tons of options to choose from but this place certainly caught my eye from the beginning. And with a competitive rate it was worth a try. Arrived and they gave us popcorn and were super friendly. The bedrooms are very clean and tidy and the atmosphere is fun and retro. 50s music plays in the lobby and the whole Inn is 50s themed. Will definitely come back next time we are in Savannah!
Terrible. Hotel smelled of smoke and room was dirty. Charged me 150 on a whim because the room smelled like “pot”. Never smoked in the room at all.. They charged 65.00 for my dog and said she couldn’t “go on any furniture”. Seriously they will charge you for anything and everything., LOOK ELSEWHERE!!
If I had to write this review on our first day it would be a 5* ,but a lot of things happened during our second day. Let me explain how to loose 3 stars in one day. We went early to breakfast what was nice but as a suggestion I would say ,have at least one item for diabetics even it would be a Apple. When we went back to get ready to explore the city a second time room service worked already and I thought wow thats nice. Left and right by our room the rooms got cleaned already. So I put the please service the room singn on and we left. We came back around 1 and the singn was still on it( and yes I put it the right way in.) Opened the door nothing done, we was tired and sweaty , it would be nice to come in a serviced room, special when it is so hot. So we took a shower and left later again for dinner. We came back and ready to sleep after a day running around and here it begins almost every guest who came that day ,thought he has to push the button on his car at least 4 time so that the horn goes off 3 times. We got 2 dogs beside us in the room and dont get me wrong I have a dog to and what dogs doing when someone passes the room is barking what is normal, but if you try to sleep than it is quit annoying. I felt bad for the owners to, because their sleep was ruined to and I guess every guest around was up, every time someone passed that room. The last time was 1:30 pm and the first time was 5:45 am and every guest who wasnt awake after that, was probably standing in bed when your morning receptionist pulled up in her car. All the buses, that left the station in 6:30 that morning didnt make so much noise as this car and of course she had when she walked away to push the key so that the horn goes off. I need to say that i love that pets are allowed and she I ever would take me dog with me I would love to get a room where is not so much traffic so that we, my dog and every other guest can rest.
I wish I could give 10 ⭐⭐!! It was fabulous!! The staff jackie, dee dee, & amica were awsome!!! It was clean friendly, and our dogs enjoyed it as much as we did!! It was close enough to walk to the river front. And the music playing out side was the BEST!!! I just cant say enough great things about the Thunderbird!! LOVED it😃😃😃
So the room is pretty cool, it’s a 50’s style motel that has recently been refurbished and I can be really picky when it comes to the hotels I stay in, a borderline nightmare to pick a hotel for. I have no complaints about this place. Clean bedroom, clean bathroom, simple design. The king bed was amazing and the distance from everywhere I wanted to walk to that night. Yes they charge for parking but it’s much cheaper than anywhere else in the area, public parking included. That’s 4 out of the 5 stars, the final star is given to the people who work front desk who really made my stay great. Really nice guys who knew a lot about the area, had WiFi password ready when I asked and setup a great free donut breakfast in the morning. All in all hope they keep up the good work and I’ll be back to stay again.
So I have been holding off on this review I kind of wanted to give you guys another chance. I thought about it and I have waited over two months for a response and I have got NOTHING. We have been coming here for years, every year we come with couples or even by our self. We know it is an older hotel and we love the retro part of it, and I expect to see flaws, but it is dirty. We had dirty sheets on our bed (Lube) stains and the floors were GROSS the bathroom was no better and the noise level was horrible. They put us right next to the ice machine and at 2am, 3am and even 4am we heard the ice machine. This is not the first time we had a bad time. The last time was the same thing just different room, the last time I found mold in the shower and hairs on the bed and snot on the head board ( Well I told myself it was snot). I am not looking for anything free I just want you to know and being that I never got a response tells me you do not care! So if you are looking for a dirty retro hotel the Thunderbird Inn is your go to, You will also have to walk about 2 miles to get to anything and make sure you walk the right way. It is across from the bus station and it gets a little hairy in the area and loud!
Great stay at this hotel! Clean bathroom and bedding. Rooms were decently sized, two adults with two dogs fit well. There is a nice doggy area beside the front desk if you decide to bring your furry friend. Krispy Kreme, Moon Pies, and RC cola were nice touches. Location is close proximity to many downtown bars and restaurants. Great bang for your buck at The Thunderbird! Will stay again next time we are in Savannah!
Great place. Love that they’re dog friendly and the staff was EXCEPTIONAL. very cute to have cola and moon pies and Krispy Kreme doughnuts too!Couple things— don’t book a room by the stairs and Ice machine if you have dogs. The noise was CONSTANT and very loud all night. One of my dogs barked incessantly one evening and it was because of that noise.Given that I had to pay non-refundable $50 for my dogs to stay and not cause a dollars worth of damage, I’d recommend taking one of those fees and adding a fan or noise maker into the rooms. Anything would help. You’re inviting people to bring their dogs to a brand new unfamiliar place and they need to not hear people banging suitcases all the way down a staircase or partying by the ice machine. However the place is super cute and we had fun. Just weren’t able to go out much due to the noise and our scared pups (also we did get the call to come back which is a great service, but then we listened to other dogs bark all night and all morning so that was a bummer too.
I loved the look and style of this hipster motel. The staff were super friendly, the moon pies on the pillow were a nice touch but our room was lacking in charm. Id expected super kitsch decor, especially as wed paid for a more expensive room but the only extras were a typewriter without any paper and a half-broken vibrating bed. It also didnt help that Id read online that guests received popcorn on arrival and there wasnt any when I was craving it. Id stay again but in a cheaper room!
Had a great stay here at thunderbird Inn. Very clean great staff. Thank you Dafne for all your help. She was wonderful. Very close to Savannah Historical District. Little tip. If you go with green orange trolly(cant remember name)(brochure at front) the stop is right by hotel. Save on using car
Pros: Nice walking distance from downtown. Great retro feel. Provided us with a little treat and dog tag for our dog. Free Krispy Kreme donuts in the morning as well as free popcorn! Staff was nice. Our room (on a corner) was spacious. Gave us 2 cans of RC Cola and 2 moon pies to welcome us. Price was also nice considering our location!Cons: Window got so much condensation that it was dripping onto the laminate floor in the middle of the night so I had to put a towel down. Toilet did not have much flushing power.I would absolutely come here again as the staff and price were good. :)
Friendly and welcoming staff who are always happy to help. The location is absolutely perfect with a short walk to the Historic District. The theme of the hotel is super cool, music of the era playing and complimentary popcorn and drinks on offer as well as coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts for breakfast!Would 100% stay here again!
Really happy with our stay. The Inn is in a convenient location and is adorable. The details make the difference st this pet friendly and affordable hotel. We would return here in a heartbeat! Clean, affordable, pet friendly, comfortable, convenient...well worth it! (They have an enclosed pet patio for dogs to relieve themselves!)
So cute! Loved our room, and the bed was SO comfortable. The pillows were not great, however, and the a.c. was an issue, in that we had to keep setting the temp to hold in 4 hour increments. That wasnt convenient at all. But Krispy Kremes for breakfast made up for it. Good location, clean, nice staff. The main reason for a 4 star rating is because of the parking. Tight spaces guaranteed to be filled because there are so few of them. And it costs $15/night. Silly. Other than that, great experience. Will be back.
I really wanted to like the Thunderbird, especially after seeing so many positive reviews; but unfortunately, our stay fell very short of our expectations. After checking in, we had to be shown three different rooms to find one that seemed any sort of clean. Two rooms had large gray patches all over the ceilings, either dust stains or mildew. The A/C unit in room 101 was speckled with black mildew or mold immediately inside the vents. All three rooms we found plenty of hair inside the showers leftover from the previous occupants. The room we settled on, Room 201, had a door that wouldnt open without a solid shoulder check. The bottom of the door was damaged and bowed, which resulted in a nice daylight gap at the lower corner. Because of this, it sounded like every bus from the neighboring Greyhound station was driving right through our room; and, we would smell it immediately when someone was downstairs smoking. We normally arent too bothered by the scent of smoke, but the room definitely had an odd musk about it that we had to try to air out. Moving to the bathroom, we did like the quality of the soap products and the dispenser prevents waste, going with the whole eco-friendly theme of the hotel. Not sure how well that gets cleaned, as it had residue and lint all over it. The shower did get nice and hot, but pressure was on the low side. The beds were pretty comfortable, each with four small square pillows. The pillows were a little awkward to sleep on compared to standard queen pillows, but they werent bad. The Moonpies on the pillows and the RC Colas in the room are a nice touch.Summary: We liked the retro-nostalgic theme, eco-friendly upgrades, the easy going staff, and the convenient location. But, it wasnt enough for us to overlook the issues. For the amount of money we spent, we were expecting a clean and quiet room, but we left unsatisfied. The hotel is definitely a neat idea but the details need some work...
The room was clean and I was able to park right in front of my door. My sister got the room next door and there was a jack and Jill door between the rooms that we had fun with. It was walking distance to downtown and there is a family Dollar very close. It came in handy for items we had forgotten.
Its a cool little hotel. Its not super fancy, but its kind of unique compared to what Im used to. Its not luxury, so if thats what youre looking for, look elsewhere. It was very clean, and it was good walking distance from most things in Savannah (at least the Riverwalk and downtown areas). Staff was friendly. If you like Krispy Kreme, the donut selection in the morning is pretty solid as well. If it wasnt for the location, I think it would be priced too high, but given where it resides, I think its pretty fair value. Overall, if youd like something a little outside the usual box and youd like to be close to the action, I think this is a solid choice. Be advised that it is a little bit noisy since its right off of Oglethorpe, but I never found it to be particularly bothersome.
Awesome motel!Lots of people were complaining about the noise, but I didnt hear a thing. Sheets are nice and clean and the room was very well kept. Lots of storage for everything we had. Free popcorn, moon pies and RC cola on arrival! Breakfast could use a little more options but the KrispyKreme doughnuts were really good.It is a few minutes away from the Historic District and 20 steps away from the trolley station, which was nice.Definitely coming back and I hope yall come too!
Excellent for the price, location, and coolness factor. Stayed here only one night, but was able to walk to River Street and stay in comfort. Check-in/out was easy, with a small offering of free snacks in the lobby to fit the 50s/60s vibe. The room was small, but comfortable, with all of the necessary amenities.
The room was clean and decent, but this place has a motel setting right accross from a big bus station. Total sketch... when we pulled up we considered canceling our reservation due to the horrible location. Walking distance to everything though... also, very noisy at night due to the traffic and bus station. We had to listen to a YouTube video of a fan all night to muffle the noise. Dog friendly too which was nice, but we will not stay there again. $160 per night was $100 overpriced. I do not recommend.
What youre seeing is black mold or mildew in the air conditioner and mystery stains on the ceiling that are mold or mildew as well. I say the idea is great but the execution isnt there. Really detracts from the experience when you look around and can count numberous hairballs on the floor as well as stains in the sink and walls. There needs to be a bigger focus on cleanliness. For us to have to go through three rooms just to find one that didnt have spots like this is ridiculous. We only settled on the 3rd room because there was an event in town and everything was booked. I wish I would have taken pictures to show how ridiculous things still were like a door that didnt seal because the front of it was water damaged with a huge gap around it. We heard every car up and down the strip and the riffraff from the bus station next door. We read through reviews and pictures and really had high hopes for this place and just ended up being very disappointed. Was not a good start to our vacation. Definitely will stay somewhere else next time.
The desk staff was very nice when checking in. The room was clean and comfortable, had a nice vintage vibe while still offering modern conveniences. They even have moonpies and RC colas set out for you, plus two more RC colas in the fridge! We have spent more and stayed at nice hotels but I would rather stay here instead. Good location in downtown Savannah as well.
If you stay here check your accounts for fraudulent or “accidental “ charges. I Was excited to stay here and my 5 day stay actually wasn’t that bad until the very end. I noticed in my bank account there was a charge for a couple hundred dollars that wasn’t supposed to be there.Unfortunately I had already checked out so I called the manager on the phone and explained that there were charges on my account continuing to happen even though I had everything paid up to date upon check in.I was fairly upset because it wasn’t like a 40$ charge, mark the manager was giving me the run around and there was a long pause before he gave me his story. Claiming a trainee took money out instead of crediting my account. I also found out later you must pay for parking even though you are staying at the hotel. I thought this was odd. I called back later that afternoon to follow up to make sure Mark called my bank, he then claimed he couldn’t find my info on his desk because there was a shift change and someone moved my info.Anyway after fighting on the phone with my bank and the office at the thunderbird I gave up. My account had a refund one day and then a few days after another charge with a negative sign. I will just never stay there again or recommend anyone to stay there. No microwave in the rooms must go to the lobby to use. No decent breakfast, only donuts.
We were there for 3 nights. The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly. The street was loud and at the last night of our stay, there came a truck, stopped at the parking lots in front of our door and they changed the towels and other stuff very noisy. It was 6 a.m. and nobody of the family could sleep any longer. It was a bad end of an all in all nice stay.
Clean, quiet and very dog friendly. You and your pups are met with a smile and some goodies - treats for the dogs and RC Cola and Moon Pies for the humans. There is a small fenced-in grassy area next to the office. Not a fancy place and no frills, but perfect for an inexpensive, clean and comfortable place to stay - especially if youre traveling with furry family members.
I wish I could give half a star. This place is DISGUSTING. And I mean DISGUSTING. The floors look like theyve never been mopped. Run a white wet cloth along the ground, it will be black when you pick it up. The floors are also extremely sticky. We had to change rooms 3 times because none of the air conditioners work. Its muggy and small in these rooms. The bed sheets feel like theyve never been washed either. This place is filthy. We had to leave after one night and get a refund. Pick literally anywhere else to go if youre visiting Savannah
Its important to remember that this place is not the Hyatt or the Hilton so you cant review it as such! For a value Motel, this place had everything you could hope for: A great price, clean and equipped rooms, a friendly check-in, and snacks in the front office. I like that the showers had eco-friendly shampoo, conditioner and bodywash dispensers instead of single use also. The motel isnt smack in the middle of all the action but it is very closely action adjacent. A quick 3-5 minute drive puts you where you want to be. You do have to pay to park anywhere you stay in Savannah -- All the other hotels charge $30 a night for parking but Thunderbird only charges $15. Given the price its the best we could have asked for and the vibe is definitely quirky and unique - kind of like Savannah. The only disadvantage is that the motel is directly across the street from a bus station, and the busses roll in and out at all hours of the night/morning and they are so loud we swore they were rolling right through our bedroom at times. We didnt get great sleep because of them and we wish we had brought earplugs.
Retro Hip and Friendly little motel. Clean updated rooms and a very friendly and helpful staff. A very slight down grade for a small bathroom and a surprise 15 charge for parking. Other hotels in the area charge 30 for vallet parking so overall this little gem was an outstanding value.
Great hotel and location! Cute 50/60s decor made it a fun place to stay. Easy parking and walking to downtown and the river. Welcoming and helpful staff gave us great food recommendations. Great attention to detail with moon pies, rc cola, and nice soaps in the rooms. They have Krispy Kreme donuts and coffee in the morning and popcorn and lemonade throughout the day. My only comment is that itd be nice to have a bathroom trash can for us ladies 😀. Id definitely come back next time were in town!
Location is on the edge of nice end of downtown Savannah. I dont know if youd want to walk down to the river though you could it would be a 10-15 minute walk. The only real problem with the hotel is the road noise but that isnt really the hotels fault the tour buses start next door. If you only like donuts for breakfast you are in luck but there are some good breakfast places close by. Room was clean.
This was a great little inn! The bathrooms were super tiny and obviously have not be updated since the 60s but everything was very clean. The coffee wasnt the best but it was a nice feature to include in the price. Loved staying right in the city at a slightly lower price. If you love the 60s you have to check it out!
Pros: Location, cleanliness, mini moon pies, hospitality by employees, lemonade and popcorn at lobby. Location near trolley and visitors train museum. Parking cost wasnt terribly high (for very tight spaces).Cons: very expensive for a motel, thin walls, wifi never worked, AC needs updating. Curtains need to make room more private. No ironing board. Squeaky uncomfortable beds. At over $200+/night I expect better. If I had a half off coupon or the price was much lower I would consider staying at the Thunderbird Motel. Its a 2 star motel at a 4 star price.
We stayed here for three nights and didnt really have a good experience. We let the person at the front desk know right when we checked in that we wanted to pay with a different card than our credit card which we used to hold the room. They told us they would make note of this and it wouldnt be a problem. When we went to check out, the person ran our card on file without even asking or giving us the total. When we asked to pay with another card she said she had already ran it. We were then told that we could get a refund on that card and pay with another after we checked out and they told us they would call later to run the refund. Later that day they called us and told us that we couldnt because we had checked out!! The staff was really not helpful or apologetic, especially considering this really was their fault. On top of that, it was really loud (small dogs barking all night) and the room smelled like mold. This hotel is cute and a cool concept but I would never stay here again and I was happy to leave.
Well, let’s say that if you want a mediocre hotel, that is not expensive (since these days $120 is considered cheap) you may want to go for the Thunderbird Inn. Sure, the room is noisy (a vent in the bathroom that can’t be stopped, an ice machine right outside the window), the bathroom is tiny and the “breakfast” consists only in Krispy Kream donuts (the healthy option is the regular glazed). But hey, the location is great and the parking is only $15. So...
No complimentary breakfast at all due to Covid-19. No issue with that, but did have an issue that I was not told this when I booked my room, or when I checked in. Was excited about Krispy Kreme Donuts and their coffee being the supposed breakfast. Bad and deceptive business and I will not be back for this reason. Room was very clean and was, what was advertised.

2022-05-27The property is a throw back the 50s. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. The shower has great water pressure. My usual complaint of terrible towels certainly doesnt apply here. The towels are clean smell great and are large and fluffy. The A/C is one of the best I have ever experienced. TV is large with many channels to choose from.2 modern chairs in the room and a very comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. The staff couldnt be nicer and everyone was helpful.I spend more than a 150 nights on the road and have found a place to return to on my next trip to Savannah.

2022-05-27The aesthetic is what drew me in, the prices are what made me book. The most affordable with a retro flair. Plus, they are the friendliest of dog-friendly with their own fenced in relief area. They give you so many goodies upon arrival, and donuts the size of your face for breakfast. Parking was the cheapest compared to some other options I was looking at, besides parking on the street. Everything was super clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

2022-03-31I loved the retro vibe, free donuts and the complimentary old school bikes. But I really appreciated the friendly service that made me feel welcome. The rates were fine, but it has a great location, so youre paying for that. The room felt like home and the service was great. I would definitely stay here again.

2022-05-27For the price and cleanliness, you cant beat it. The only off-putting point for me was that our room was slightly humid (I know, its Savannah) and the AC didnt reduce the humidity in the room too much. That being said, location is good, their little breakfast setup was the cutest, the parking was fine for us though I can understand if the motel is full that there could be some concerns. This is the place to stay for exploring Savannah and not worrying about paying for hotel frills you dont end up using.

2022-07-04This a cute retro motel. I felt like I was in the 70s. The staff was really friendly and available at all times of the day and night. Your pet will love it here as well. Its close to everything! You can just about walk to everything. I recommend this place. Will definitely stay here again.

2022-04-26The only reason I didn’t give the Thunderbird 5 stars is the parking. When I checked in the guy at the front desk said I see on your reservation that you didn’t purchase parking. Well my bad if I missed it. One of the reasons I reserved this place is because it has parking. I would bet better than 95% of the guests drive and need parking. The problem is there are more rooms than there are parking spots. The front desk guy let me park in the restricted spot by the front door. He said don’t move in it or you’ll lose it. So beware, if you go for dinner and drive, don’t be surprised if you return and there is no spots left. When I woke up in the morning, there was a handful of cars double up blocking in other cars in the parking lot. But other than that, the Thunderbird is clean,is a decent price and had a very friendly staff. Good value and good location. If they had an overflow plan for parking in place the hotel is an easy 5 star place.

2022-05-08If you’re on the fence about booking this hotel, I’m here to change your mind: please stay here! I’m not old enough to be nostalgic for the 60s theming but am old enough to appreciate it… and staying at this little motel did make me nostalgic for the summer trips of my childhood. It is a place of simple and clean lodgings, friendly staff, and a suitable “home base” from which to plan my trip. The rates are very affordable – it’s worth saving the money you would’ve spent on a chain and using it for another memorable moment on your trip! The Thunderbird Inn is right across from the public transit terminal, so catching buses, tour trolleys, and Greyhounds literally couldn’t be easier. Day bus passes are SO cheap and the CAT system is very easy to navigate. Having access to nearly every bus in the downtown service area makes a stay in Savannah much easier. It’s also like a 10 minute walk from City Market and a 15 or 20 minute walk from River Street – with sidewalks all the way.Mark the front desk manager is the physical embodiment of Southern Hospitality. I can’t thank him enough for his attention to detail, his customer service skills, and his hard work.I miss Savannah terribly already, and when I go back, I’ll be staying here again!

2022-03-01Best part about our stopover in Savannah. We booked though a 3rd party app; process went smoothly & the property was very responsive. Rooms were clean, water was hot, front desk staff was friendly, they provide complimentary popcorn & lemonade in the lobby in the afternoons/evenings. I even got to watch a Harry Potter AND a Marvel movie, although the Inn probably didnt arrange that ;)

2022-05-03This place is just fun. Very kitschy & cute. There is is upbeat music playing all day, free coffee & donuts in the morning. The coffee was awful, the stuff in the room was better. But the donuts were yummy. Also free popcorn all day.Leslie checked us in & she was fabulous. She was very helpful & had some terrific suggestions for things to do & places to eat.The rooms were simple but nice. The beds were comfy with plenty of pillows. I went with a group of four & we have all decided the Thunderbird is our go to hotel in Savannah.

2022-02-10We had a great stay at this super cool motel! Clean rooms with a fun theme, great price, and super convenient location. Plus they give you moon pies and RC colas in the room! There was some street noise, but youre in downtown Savannah and that cant really be helped. Wed definitely stay here again!
