I was in a few weeks back and purchased some O gauge EZ track ? All in all it was a positive experience . It is always intimidating to walk into a shop and see some of the advanced builders at the counter going over questions, but the person who checked me out was very nice for the several pieces of track I bought. He also assisted me in find the O gauge track power piece so that I could connect power to the track. I dont know a lot about any of this, but I thought it would be a nice hobby to relive a little stress and I was right. I have had a great time with my very small layout and I will certainly be back to expand my O gauge collection .
Great model train shop especially for those interested in various scales. Very well stocked so there is lots to look at and to choose from. They dont cater to those with European layouts but I was able to find a few HO scale buildings and cars. They are well stocked with layout landscaping materials and the pricing is competitive. Well worth visiting.
Excellent shop for model train enthusiastsThey have the best online prices, but also a great selection at their retail location. If you are in the Atlanta area, be sure to check out their special in-store deals and their selection of used rolling stock. I am so lucky to have them reasonably close by
Very Large selection of scales from G to Z. Very knowledgeable sales force. Helpful and extremely friendly. Best hobby shop Ive been in and Ive been in at least one in each of the lower 48 and Hawaii. Will definitely recommend this store to my friends. Keep up the good work guys and gals.
Great selection, huge store. Lots of model trains & accessories. I love the railroadiana. There are plenty of things for all ages - theres a childrens section with train tables set up to play on; theres layouts in three different scales you can see operating (and you can operate the O-scale); there are signs, posters, books, magazines for the novice; lots of interesting things everywhere in the store.
When you read other reviews be aware that this store pays for favorable reviews. There is a sign posted on the front door which offers a discount on purchases if you post a good review. At best this is a mediocre store with a reasonably large collection of old merchandise. Prices are high even for old stuff. Customer service is virtually nonexistent except when you are followed around the store like a potential shop lifter. Do t waste your time going here.
Just a few years ago, the store was the greatest with super service, reasonable pricing, and updated inventory. You could visit every week and find something new to buy. However, it has really went downhill with mostly old items on hand and an Internet operation that has yet to fully develop (no pictures, updated once a month or so). The saddest part is the owner who is now taking out his struggles on his customers - read the other reviews here for proof. A great place for the occasional visit to find something made a couple of years ago but not what it used to be.
This place is actually quite nice. While I don’t model HO Scale (I do O-Scale) this place is an HO Scale modeler’s Heaven. Staff seemed knowledgeable and friendly, and it’s right next to some tracks so people can watch real trains pass by. Not bad at all. Check it out if you model HO.
This was my first time in the store. I was not in the store over 5 minutes before a gentleman asked if I needed help. He was very patient and helped me with locating some Scale Coat colors. He also offered advice on using the colors. A little while later, he gave me more advice on the best choice of lubricants for a vintage brass locomotive. These guys have a little bit of everything, including used books and magazines, and their selection of Walthers items is extensive. Considering that they are operating a large retail establishment, their prices seem reasonable. Regarding difference in price between retail and online: They are not Target; if you want their mail-order price, order online. At least you can see an item before you order it! I will be going back!
Do not attempt to sell your items at this location. TrainMaster Models will drag their feet in giving you a price, just asking you to leave your inventory with them. Then they will never call you in regards to valuation or paying you for your product. Im not sure what they did to my trains but their lack of any attempt to get a hold of me is egregious. I have emailed them with my receipt and now they will no longer respond. I will update this review if anything changes.I would warn you to steer clear of this location. I personally dont trust them.Edit: To the reply. One it was not a small quantity of items, the items were in a case. Two you never called, my cell changed 18 months later so you never called for a year and a half, at least. You run a business doing this, I had a life in which I got married and bought a house. Whats your excuse for being so horrible at what you do as a business. If you are so undeniably awful at this why didnt you say take it elsewhere.I left my address on file as well, when my cell didnt work you could have sent a letter. The person who called me laughed over the phone at my complaint. Welcome to the level of customer service you can expect from Trainmaster models. I do hope the owner sees this and realizes the lack of service his employees provide.
I made my first visit, today. First of all, the prices...YOU CANT BEAT THEM!!! I found brand new merchandise that was 30% lower than the msrp. The selection of goodies was endless, my only gripe is, need more steam for n scale. The staff was friendly enough and helpful. And, did I mention the insane deals?...oh, yes, yes I did.
Worst customer service. They just have attitude when you ask questions or for more information on their products. They were rude to my dad when he was trying to find something for my son.Was with my dad and he bought a train set on Saturday for my son. They didnt have the one he wanted, so he bought a different one they had because he didnt want him to be without one for Christmas. Later that evening I found one from Amazon that my Dad originally wanted to buy my son, so we went to return it and they would not let us. They said it could have been opened and they dont do returns only store credit. This was over $300.00!!! Ridiculous!!! We did not open it everything is taped and exactly as it was. Secondly, there are no return policy on the receipt, etc. So they should have returned it. Will be pursuing otherwise. Dont waste your time or money here.
I go at least once a month. This train store has by far some of the best selection Ive seen at any train store, especially in N scale. That being said I always get bad customer service and sometimes even followed around the store because I look young so why would I possibly be in a train store. Every person working in that store makes me feel like helping me is a waste of time.
Beware of online orders. On June 17th, I placed an order for several items that were all listed as in stock on the website. I read the terms and conditions on the website and understood that orders were aggregated from multiple sources and would ship within 5 business days.On the fifth business day, Friday, June 22nd, the order had not shipped, so I called to request the status of an online order and was transferred to Wesley.Wesley told me that all items were available and were en route to their facility for shipping. I asked him to specifically check that all items were available. He said Yes, we never would have kept your money this long if they werent available. Wesley told me items would be available by mid-week the next week and I should check in if I dont hear anything by then.On Thursday, June 28th, I called for a status update (per Wesleys instructions) and was told that two items on my order were back-ordered and wouldnt be available until mid-July. When I challenged this as contradictory to what I was told the previous week by Wesley, the owner told me:1) I should never have been transferred to Wesley because he didnt know what he was talking about2) Wesley didnt have access to the information she had access to, therefore, the information he provided me was wrong. The owner also implied that it was my fault for talking to Wesley about my online order - the person I was directly connected to when requesting the status of the online order! The owner then tried to twist my words, stating that because I waited until mid-week this week (as advised by Wesley), I specifically instructed them to wait until backorders were available to ship my order. Again, how would I have made a determination on back order-handling if Wesley told me all items were in transit and never used the words back order? The owner also accused me of not reading their policy and conditions. I specifically read the terms and conditions, which state that orders listed as available take time to aggregate from multiple sources and may not ship for up to 5 business days. I never would have ordered something listed as back-ordered on their website, I specifically placed the order because the items were available on the website and, at the time, were also listed as available at their distributor (Walthers). The website was since updated to show this item as back-ordered; however, it did not show this at the time of order. When I stated that Trainmasters was outside their own terms and conditions because they failed to ship merchandise within 5 business days, the owner accused me of not understanding how their business worked and having not read the terms and conditions on the website (yes, the terms and conditions I was quoting). She accused me of wanting my items shipped within a few business days, which is patently false - until now, Ive patiently waited 9 business days for the order to ship. When I asked for the order to be cancelled, the owner scoffed at me and refused to cancel the entire order and stated she would have to charge a restocking fee of 15% on the in-stock items (which, I would understand if I they were within the terms of their order conditions, but, they were not). When I conceded and just asked the owner to cancel the backordered items, the owner used a mocking tone when she listed the price adjustment on the order of $22.Finally, the owner was defensive, standoffish, and blamed me from the beginning for this issue. Im sorry I received incorrect information from your team, but, Im not accountable for the breakdowns in protocols and communications within your organization. Next time there is a breakdown on your end, please dont blame your customer. Next time a customer is frustrated, please try to be understanding, not accusatory.Today, this company lost a retail customer who has loved their shop for the last four years. While their retail store is great, their web experience was among the worst in the industry. By the way, they pay customers for positive reviews
Had been out of model rr for a few years but back in the day Trainmaster was the only place I ised for my needs. They were very courteous and helpful . Got back into model rr just recently and bought some items from Trainmaster and was once again very pleased with the same quality courteous service. Keep up the good work TM.!!!
Not very helpful...Ordered online and was told that they ship daily. Well its been 3 days (Not counting day i ordered) and they still have not shipped my order...They need a refresher course in customer service, its almost as if they dont want your business, come on people!...I think ill stick with Modeltrainstuff and Trainworld...
Advertise one price online and sell 20% higher in store. When owner Mike was questioned on this he was rude and impolite. Pretty much said I could take my business elsewhere. Very disappointed as this was hour drive for me. More disappointed in the owners attitude. Plenty of places to shop online with better prices. Save your money this place needs to close.
This place does not understand the term customer service. I was the only person in the store (except the 2 people conducting inventory) for over 10 min and was never asked if I needed assistance. I was prepared to spend approx $1000 on new train equipment but I guess Ill spend it on the internet...at least I know my computer will be there to assist me. These people do not deserve a one star rating.
A little disappointed with Trainmaster. We have been in the store numerous times and have spent quite a bit of money on trains and tracks for our 3 year old son. We went to the store Wednesday and were the only customers in the store. There were 2 workers and if my husband had not have spoken to them, Im sure they would not have spoken to us at all. It was at least an hour before they closed, so it wasnt like we were holding them up. Very disappointed in the way we were treated. My husband asked the lady working if they were planning on going to the train show this weekend and received a one word answer. Im not sure we will be coming back anytime soon.
Bryan was very helpful answering loads of questions for me. He did not try to sell me, but answered question after question. So much to learn! I received a Lionel set from Santa many years ago and recently began reading about model trains. My Lionel is 0 gauge but I was drawn to HO and was amazed at the huge HO market and detail of the trains. After many questions answered I decided on an Athearn HO Iron Horse set. I am hooked-on model trains, building a HO gauge inspired community and count on Trainmasters to assist with helpful advice and huge selection of products to build my dream.

2021-11-27Edit review11/27/2021Just took my husband to the new location and we love it! They have a fantastic online ordering system and the used trains are the best you can find in Georgia. We met the owner and he was so inspirational. Train hobbiest will really benefit from their love and knowledge.Original review 2018:This is a complete dream of a store! The staff are so helpful; John and Brian gave me amazing customer service in finding and ordering the perfect peices for my husband.I recently brought him here and he instantly became a kid in a train store! Location is charming as well as the amazing stock they keep.

2022-06-24Its finally time to retire, fellas. Thank you for allowing me to be graced by your existence (tongue firmly tucked in cheek). I have patronized TM since WAY before the current team has been running the store in Auburn, and have spent tens of thousands of dollars here over the years (in the Buford location). While the ability to browse the massive selection and energize the creative dopamine in my brain remains an attractive feature of the brick and mortar, the service itself gives me the feeling that I broke into a retirement home and sniffed through everyones belongings. Additionally, the prices are now off-the-chart high. I am quite accustomed to over-paying for the experience of the inventory and the friendly chit-chat, but WOW...I would ask the current team to up their customer service game a bit, especially when the customer actually states they will pay any price for an item accessible on the floor and is then ridiculed for the mere mention of the phrase. Unfortunately... VERY unfortunately, the current business model seems to indicate the owners already have plenty of money and are no longer interested in communication or friendly patronization with their long-time customers.I am truly disappointed that I will not be able to visit here again, however, I am very much encouraged that everything I need for all of my layouts can easily be found online. (I even found and ordered the N-scale General Lee I was told I couldnt find - within 5 minutes of leaving the store- iykyk)As I rarely close any door in my network, I have to concede in this instance and will happily get-off-your-lawn.-Martin

2022-03-27Rude and short with customers. Asked for advice and get a smart answer. The Goal should be to help every person thats walks in the door. And make them a long-term customer. But their current goal is lets run everyone off and ask why we went out of business later.

2022-01-08Healthy selection of models for most scales, especially HO. The small parts selection (screws, couplers, etc.) is great as well! Friendly employees who have plenty of modeling experience.

2022-01-20This is the best N scale train store in Georgia, period. I stopped going everywhere else because they have nothing compared to this place. To the owners, keep up the good work. A+

2021-06-06Trainmaster provides the best of both worlds with an excellent online ordering system and a physical store that is well worth the trip to Auburn. Mike and his staff are welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful, which I particularly appreciate as a newcomer to the hobby. With a huge collection of inventory and very competitive prices, this is a great community store to patronize.

2021-10-30Best in Georgia & on internet. Great prices on 33 thousand plus products (free shipping orders over $99.99 in the 48 states, great rates otherwise). Also buys, sells & trades pre-owned models & antiques. If in the Atlanta area a must visit (now open for in-store Thursday, Friday and Saturdays 11-6). Disneyland of train stores. Mike Devaney long time owner knows how to run a complete train store, very responsive, knowledgeable, hard working. Great helpful, friendly staff.

2021-01-24The gentleman running the store is very rude. The prices are almost full retail! When I asked where something was I was quizzed about why instead of the location in the store. First and last visit! If the owner only knew how much I spend on trains..... Follow up, you reviewed the tapes??? That should make all your customers feel comfortable knowing you made a point to identify me. Furthermore you arent going to have a record of me spending money in your establishment. I didnt spend any money there as I was raised to be respectful, and when disrespected by your clerk with his belittling and condescending attitude my wife and I were put off and left. I asked about a replacement power truck and where those were located and was told first they didnt make such a thing, by your all knowing clerk. Those particular trains, inexpensive as you call them have lots of sentimental value. I love how you even managed to belittle my trains in your response and it just collaborates the true reflection of my original review. Your store was wonderful with many pieces of beautiful model railroad equipment. Its truly a shame we had the encounter that we did at your store. As conservatives we try to support local small businesses, however no worries I will search for my inexpensive train parts and new trains somewhere else so as not to burden your staff with my cheap trains.

2021-05-12Owner was extremely pleasant, inventory was superb, and prices were lower than most places Ive seen. Look forward to making another trip here. Has all scales, but more HO and N than others.
