This place is so much fun! They have climbing and obstacle course options for everyone from the preschoolers to the experienced rock climers, Ninja Warriors and parkour enthusiasts! Many of our friends have had birthday parties here as well. The owners are wonderful and have helped build and start other places like this around the country!
Treadstone is awesome! Really fun boulder problems with tons of low and mid-difficulty problems. The auto-belay systems take a bit getting used to but the gym has top and lead as well. Only complaint is the wall is rather short so even climbing problems feel more like high-ball boulders with protection. Also there is nothing above a 5.10 on the auto belays at the time of posting but there are up to 5.12 on lead which is far longer as the wall extends onto the roof.
I’ve had a good and bad time working here but the facility has come a long way since then. The crew members were pretty nice to me but a lot of the higher ups were a little neglectful. I did “work”while I was a “mini-minor” (13-15ish) and I presented the proper documentation so I could receive pay but the paperwork was forgotten for a few months even when I asked about it.Norma is a really sweet aerial instructor so if you can see her I definitely recommend trying out aerial silks but, countless negative experiences with other members added up so I moved on to another job. Hosting your son’s birthday is fun but, the experience is better when you make good and permanent connections with the people there. Please keep in mind that I have not listed my entire experience with this gym and that your opinion can be formed differently than mine, this review is simply to help people who are in the position I was in, to get an idea of what it’s like to work for Treadstone. Rock climbing, parkour, and aerial arts are all great activities to try out, just be aware of potential difficulties.
My 10 year old loves this place! We purchased the day pass, so we climbed for a while left and went back later. The ninja course could some work but still has obstacles that can be done. To me the ninja course isnt very kid friendly, seems a little hard but my son had fun trying. The climbing walls are great with different levels of difficulty and they have several. They even have a small workout area so if youre like me and have to get it in you can do so while youre child climbs! Oh yeah, the parcore area is amazing! Your child can parcore all over place, make their own obstacles and just have fun jumping from object to object. They also have mats for safety. The place was clean and staff is super nice and helpful. Definitely recommend this place!
So we started going here for a new experience for the kids. They have climbing walls for all levels of experience. They allow you to rent equipment if you don’t have any or you can use your own. We had my sons birthday here as well. Staff is knowledgeable and don’t make you feel unwelcomed. Great time for all. Keep an eye out and they do sell an annual pass for those who like to climb a lot, but may not have to ability to always travel out of town. Highly recommended if you want to go more than once or twice a month.
My girls had an absolute blast! They are 4 and 9 and love American Ninja Warrior, so this was great for them. Neither are very athletic but they had the most amazing time rock climbing, doing obstacle courses, and running the warped wall! The staff was great with them. We will definitely be back!!
When out in public, your employees should respect the mask/social distancing policies and requirements of other businesses. In reply: This happened right before Christmas, so I cant remember exactly what your crew member said. I saw him get out of a gray pickup with your Treadstone decals (large, like it was a company vehicle) and enter the Barnes & Noble at Columbus Park Crossing. He was approached by an employee of the store because he was not wearing a mask and politely asked to please wear one of he was going to shop there. I cannot remember exactly what he said in response, but I do remember how rude it was and the impression I left with me about what your companys attitude might be regarding the safety measures everyone should be taking during this pandemic. Even if masks arent being required at your place of business, that is no reason to be publicly rude to employees at a business that is requiring them.
Signed up for the Intro to Climbing class on a Wednesday. I was fortunate enough to be the only one in the class due to some people cancelling. The staff is extremely helpful from the time you walk in till you leave. My instructor was knowledgeable and started off showing me all the different routes, types of holds, bouldering, and how to use the ropes and harness. He had me climbing an easy route within 5 minutes. After the first route we moved on to a harder version. Climbed a total of 6 different routes. The instructor motivated me the whole time while also giving helpful instructions. There are plenty of routes and ropes to accommodate many people at once. The bouldering wall, in my opinion, is rather large also to allow many different people on there at once.I would recommend this facility to anyone wanting to experience indoor rock climbing for the first time or even if you are an experienced climber.
Great place. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent place to learn the basics or refresh on skills and plenty of wonderful problems to figure out. They also have a great parkour area and obstacle zone, which I plan on trying. Amazing rates for both memberships and classes.
Cant say enough good things about this place. My family booked the Discover Climbing intro session, which included gear and climbing for the day, and a staff member for an hour to help us get started. Sean spent over 2 hours working with my sister who has cerebral palsy, finding ways to use her strengths to help her up the walls. Truly phenomenal staff, and theres plenty of climbing routes of varying difficulties. Will definitely be coming back!
I feel obligated to post a review of Treadstone Climbing though I have never climbed at their facility. I have done business with them in the past and I continue to stay in contact with them in the present. The owners and staff are some of the kindest and most knowledgeable people you will ever have the pleasure to meet. They run a top notch facility and if you have the pleasure of meeting anybody who works there you will feel the same as me. Its a wonderful environment with creativity and activities that you have never seen in this area. From extreme challenges and military training to beginners and children this facility is definitely a Hidden Gem. I love just visiting treadstone climbing and I know you will feel the same. These are solely my opinions and I have not been asked or paid in any way to say them. Good people and good businesses deserve a good review.
A treasure in the heart of Columbus! Not only is it the first climbing gym in town, but it is an excellent place for all skill levels. First timers and beginners will find encouraging and knowledgeable staff to facilitate their introduction to the sport (if your looking for a fun and active place to get the kids out of the house this is it.) . While those with more experience will be challenged by the top notch problem setting and the notorious roof (the owner Mark is always more than willing to give training and technique tips). As an avid climber and American Mountain Guide Association Instructor I can assure you this is one of the most welcoming gyms with the friendliest staff in the southeast.
PRICE INCREASE - I love Treadstone and have climbed there many many times traveling from Auburn, AL. Great staff, loved the boulders. However, now that the price has greatly increased to $22.50 (for students, regular adults are $25) I will not be coming anymore. I would rather just go to Birmingham Boulders where it’s $14 for students and $16 for adults. Or Stone Summit in Atlanta where it’s $17 for everyone with much more climbing. The price increase is absolutely absurd, I recommend lowering them back down because many of my friends have expressed that they also will not be coming to Treadstone anymore.

2022-04-20Treadstone is truly a home away from home! As soon as I walked through their doors, I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere! The staff, instructors, as well as the aerial program are absolutely phenomenal. I will forever and always be grateful for Norma Cruz as she introduced to me her love and passion for aerial silks. Because of her, she has shaped me into the person/aerialist I am today! This gym has also given me a family that I love deeply!

2022-04-20Aerial Instructors are not certified to teach. Classes lack structure and pre-planning. Mats are worn down and not safe to help prevent injury in case of a fall. (I know of 2 incidents, 1 being my own while I was a student and the other was equipment malfunction that both head instructors knew about).I was with the gym for over 3 years, and while at first I loved it, the true colors of management and it’s employees is very apparent. It seems obvious that they lack maturity and understanding of the whole situation. I have 8 pages that detailed safety concerns and other things that apparently I was supposed to know as a student then a minimum wage employee. (Concerns that I would have never been aware of had I not taken the initiative to get certified- but apparently the owner has years of experience in aerial arts and knows the “mother of aerial silks” so it’s not important). I voiced my concerns to those above me but was continually dismissed. After being told many times in some way that my age was somehow a factor in my ability to coach/raise or my age and apparently gender was a reason for a demerit. Having a co-worker tell a student not to listen to my suggestions because “she doesn’t know what she’s doing” but promoting the program off my success in competitions and other ventures…am I disgruntled? Sure! Months and months of this type of treatment would eventually make anyone angry.I loved the Aerial Silks classes when I first began and always had a wonderful time, but after about a year I had to start teaching myself and even had to help teach classes that I was paying for. Aerial has been and will continue to be a huge part of my life, but hopefully now at a gym in which the management and employees are encouraging, supportive, and more over have respect.I hope the program grows under properly trained instructors and with proper safety measurements. I had many great memories here and loved taking classes with Norma when she was teaching classes!

2022-05-17Friendly staff, good route setting, plenty of training equipment could make this gym a great gym. However, the temperature of the building is something I’ve never seen in any other climbing gym.The nature of this sport requires cooler temperatures to achieve success in training or outdoor performance. Thus terms like ‘sending temps’, and the division of times of year into the ‘season’ and ‘off-season’. During the season, temps are cool, climbing outdoors is fun, the rock grabs back, etc. When it gets too hot, indoor training is turned to as a relief from the heat, and preparation for the outdoor season begins anew. At this particular gym, there is no relief from the relentless summer temps of the South; training requires sweating through 85-90 degree indoor temperatures if you wish to climb in Columbus, as there are no other gym options. It’s not as if the heat will make you ‘tougher’. In reality, the opposite is true; if you can’t hang on (due to sweat) to do the work, you won’t be able to train effectively.Again, great place minus the absurd temps.

2022-06-17Climbed at Treadstone in June 2022. Really great gym with all the basics. Friendly staff, interesting route setting, campus boards, weights. Minus one star for the texture of the climbing wall. Painted plywood made it hard to smear on the wall.

2022-05-09LOVE LOVE LOVE treadstone and their aerial silks instructors! Sarah and Maknleigh are my favs! Norma is so great! They’re all SO motivational! Safety is their #1 goal. I’ve fallen on the mats a few times accidentally (because that’s what happens sometimes when you’re LEARNING) and never once have I gotten hurt! The treadstone flyers team is great at what they do, it’s like a home away from home

2021-04-11Treadstone ROCKS! I took a squad of 6-8 year olds for a birthday event and they loved it. There was plenty of things to do including rock-wall climbing, parkour area where they played Shark (tag), and a ninja warrior like area. The staff is A+. Extremely friendly and practically bend over backwards to do as much as possible to make your experience amazing. If all this wasnt enough to convince you, did I mention they allow you to come before official opening hours so you have the place to yourself. Well worth the money and surely beats the boring bowling, trampoline event you were planning on.

2021-01-20Nice routes and LOTS of boulder problems. My arms were smoked by the time I found the workout and obstacle course area, but that looked creative and fun too. Friendly staff and clean, cozy, comfortable facility. Funky holds too.

2020-02-29I had a fantastic experience here. I went with a small group of friends, and all of us are new to climbing. The employees helped us understand the different rating systems, auto-belays, and bouldering. They were continuously observing climbers for safety and offered advice when needed. Overall, I would make the two-hour drive to climb here again in a heartbeat!

2022-04-18Treadstone Climbing Gym is amazing, especially the treadstone flyers. Aerial silks is a very intimidating sport and the instructors have made it very easy, inviting, and comfortable!
