Despite being easy to miss, this place truly has excellent falafels and gyros. Lots of food for your money. Excellent taste. Would recommend. This is not your typical sit down, though. You order the food and wait for it, then enter the adjacent building and go down the stairs to eat in what almost feels like an empty food court in a mall. Still worth it for the food.
Ali baba is a GREAT place for lunch, EVERYDAY. The food here is amazing and inexpensive as well. AND, they give you a LOT of food. A little on the greasy side, but not enough to keep me away! Everyone Ive recommended this place too says more or less the same. Everyone should try it.
The guy running the and making the food is very friendly and personable. He recognizes his repeat customers and will make you an order of whatever you want. Huge portions are great prices. Vegan and vegetarian options are no problem. Great place for a healthy and delicious lunch.
The staff were rude and disrespectful when I walked in. The woman at the front counter was berating and aggressively dehumanizing a young woman as I walked through the door. I believe all human beings should be treated with respect and because of this I chose not to support this business or this type of behavior!
So many businesses on campus closed during pandemic. Tried this place for the first time. Super friendly owner and great priced food. You get GOOD portions and its DELICIOUS! Seriously super yummy. Will be back! Glad to support the local businesses that stayed on campus
Amazing Gyro! Amazing Falafel. My Belgian husband was so happy to find great Falafel, and I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it. The owner is very friendly, and his staff is great! We will be back in Atlanta tomorrow, and we already know where were going for lunch.
I went today and got a gyro salad plate for me and a gyro wrap (it was called a “super” something...) for my husband. The staff were so kind and engaging and helped me decide what to order. They helped me figure out what each thing was and how to pick items best for me. The food was really tasty and very different for me to experience. I liked eating here and trying something new! Plus, the kind man preparing the food even gave me an extra sample of a side so that I could try a new item. Very kind of him! I appreciated it and will certainly go back.
It was my first time trying and I must say food was great for the price! Staff went above and beyond letting me try new things and very accommodating! Very nice and helped me order in my native language which made the experience so much better! When they noticed I brought my dog and we were eating outside they even brought my dog some meat and water. I’ve never met staff that cares about their customers as much as Ali Baba Mediterranean in downtown. If I could give 10 stars I would! I will be a returning customer and is now on my top recommended list.
This is a great place for a healthy, filling and cheap lunch. It is bar none my favorite place to eat lunch while in campus. For about $9 you get a rice or salad with chicken or lamb, a side, pita, and a drink.I always pick a chicken salad with hummus for a healthy meal that satisfies me all day.The people that run Ali Babas are very nice and courteous, and sometimes they throw in a little extra food for you to try.
Little hole in the wall on Broad Street with incredibly authentic & fresh food! Take your lunch to-go, or ask them about the indoor seating next door. Great vegetarian options- falafel salad, mediterranean wraps, hummus etc. The owner & cashier both are amazingly KIND. If you find yourself in downtown Atlanta, i would highly suggest making a trip to Ali Baba for lunch.
I work upstairs in the Healey Building from this restaurant and frequent it often. Great fresh food, the owner and employees are always accommodating to special requests, plus it is delicious, quick, healthy and a great value for the price. I always have enough leftovers for a 2nd meal!
I admire this spot! They offer excellent food, their menu is decent, The cook in that restaurant is a real authority in the kitchen, I love very much trying all their dishes. The dishes are always good, the attitude towards the visitors is efficient. I frequently visit this place and I not even once was discontended. I recommend it to all.
Greek salad with lamb is my favorite, and such a good price. Loaded with meat and veggies, itll fill you up for the day. So much parsley tops off the flavor explosion in this salad. Tiny spot for ordering, but you can eat either at a table in the sidewalk or in the area downstairs.
Today makes my second visit here. I ordered the gyro yesterday and it was so good that I decided to come back today. The lady at the front had the most stank, unappealing attitude Ive ever encountered. I asked for the falafel to be my side, but what they put in the box didnt look the same. I asked her if it came with what I asked and I was met with belligerence. The experience was so unpleasant that Im probably never going back again. Its unfortunate cause the food is really good and decently priced. Ill come back though if shes not there...
I love Ali Babas for a quick lunch on the go at a reasonable price. I always get the Gyro + Mediterranean Salad combo for $7. Its filling, delicious, cheap, and comes prepackaged in a styrofoam to go container. The super gyro is more meat and sauce, which makes it a bit harder to eat. The drinks are in a separate storefront. They offer discounts for GSU students. There isnt a place to sit down here, its more of a permanent stand than a restaurant. The park is barely a block away, and they have lots of seating there, so I recommend that.
This is an excellent facility with outside tables and chairs to view the scenery. They have an array of Turkish foods and desserts that melt in your mouth. If you like international foods I suggest you go check this eatery out. You will be Surprised!!! Thank you Fevzi Karabulut whos the owner and his delightful staff, especially the cashier. Peace, Love and Joy to you all.
Tiny place. Split by another entrance, but you can get great quality very quickly here. Try the falafal! Ive had the falafal, gyros, and a couple of other items. All very good. Expect to haul it off to eat it. Some outdoor seating under the trees nearby. Soda machine/drinks are not in the space in which you order!
My girlfriend and I got lunch at Ali-babas today. I had the Falafel salad and she had the lunch special with chicken (meat over rice w/ two sides). The serving size to price ratio is good; just under $8 for a very filling lunch. The quality of my salad was mehhh. The falafel was smothered in yogurt and hot sauce to the point that I felt like I was eating a buffalo chicken salad. But, more notably, my girlfriend got food poisoning from the chicken.I gotta believe that this place has something to offer based on all the good reviews it has. Id say check it out if youre on GSU campus and need a filling lunch, just hold off on the sauce if you want to taste the food and stay away from the chicken.
Always enjoy the Mediterranean wrap from this place but dealing with the lady behind the register is enough to stop me from going here unless I’m in a hurry. She is curt, unhelpful, and generally unpleasant, which is why I’ve only ever ordered one item off the menu—I’m too anxious to ask questions about other menu items because I excpect a rude and scornful response (which I’ve seen her deliver to other customers countless times). If you’ve got an itch for Mediterranean food in Downtown Atlanta, I recommend making the short walk over to Baraka Shawarma instead.
I have been to Mediterranean restaurants all over the country. It is one of my favorite foods. I typically order a falafel sandwich. The falafel part of the sandwich was luke warm or cold. It was tasty. But they just put in a small piece. I would have preferred a slightly larger portion. But it is very lazy for the restaurant not to warm it up. The pita was good and the fixins inside were good. I also got grape leaves. They were terrible. Very mushy and also too cold. I also got a samosa. That was also cold. They said they could heat it up but in a microwave. It is 2014, how can a classy place heat things up in a device that ruins food. I ate it cold and it was pretty good. I think if this place had their ingredients at the right temperature they would be much better off. So if you want cold/luke warm food this is your spot.
Dont overlook this place. Tiny stall and a little rough looking, but this place will get you some delicious food quickly and with friendly service. I was getting it to go, but they pointed out theres indoor seating in the building they butt up against which resolves the only issue Id have with the place.
If you enjoy tasteless and oily meat then this is the place. In all my years eating Gyros( Lamb or Chicken) in NYC never...ever have they been flavorless or oily....not even from the street carts/vendors..Lol!! Straight BASURA ( garbage/trash).When you know better..you eat better!! # FACTS
This is my favorite spot on Broad. IM A Georgia State University employee and Im calling out to you Panthers....eat HERE. Its healthy...tasty and you cant beat the great service. Shouts out to their main Cashier (the brunette lady) she completely understands Customer retention. Ill be back 100%
The best gyro anywhere. We have had gyros in Turkey, and all over the USA but by golly this is the best Gyro. The owners Dad actually is a chef in Istanbul and has a chain of restaurants there employing 300. So it was no surprise for us that every item on Ali Babas menu that we tasted here on Broad street; was very palatable, very delicious, perfectly cooked and well seasoned. We tried the Bakalwa for desert. Sinfully delicious. Like all other Bakalwas this one was not dripping or soaked in honey. The amount was just perfect.Honestly, if you havent eaten Gyro, falafal or for that matter; if you havent eaten at Ali Baba Cafe you have no idea what true good Turkish food tastes like.I have spent two weeks in Turkey eating at authentic restaurants and even here in Atlanta at Turkish festivals and other so called authentic Turkish and Greek outfits. This is a fast food style cafe and seating is on the sidewalk. All I can say is get down to 60 Broad Street, Atlanta GA. You will be back.
The food has always been great when I went there. The tiny store is always busy, with a line that occasionally goes half-way down Broad Street, which is my only complaint. Overall, it is a well priced, worthwhile experience that I will continue to enjoy on my afternoon walks.
RUDE customer service. I was the only person inside the restaurant (so there was no line/wait) and asked the lady behind the counter questions about prices and the menu. She seemed bothered by my asking questions and gave me attitude. She called me sweetie and condescendingly said I think youre confused. It was exactly like interacting with a bully. Needless to say I did not lunch with them, and will never step foot at Ali Babas again.
When I approached the cashier with a question, no hi, hello, nothing. She continued to play on her phone, barely answered my question. Very rude & unconcerned.I went next door to the pizza joint and received excellent customer service. I will never go there again. I assumed. because the cook didnt speak English that the establishment would be friendly to people of color! WRONG!!!!!!!!
Actually I was next door at the pizza place for my fave spinach and anchovies pizza. Ali Baba’s is okay, too. Interesting place Broad Street in downtown Atlanta. Cool places to have a quick bite. Ali Baba’s falafel used to be the bomb. Hope they’re still going strong.

2022-07-15The best falafel ever. My friend and I purchased two falafel and made it into a wrap. We included their special spicy sauce in it and other spices and it was too good to be true.

2022-01-19GSU student here - this is absolutely my favorite lunch spot any day I am on campus. The owners are very personable and get to know their customers and treat you well. The food is great and always fast served. This restaurant is worth the walk from anywhere downtown. I am very glad they made is through the pandemic and continue as a part of the campus community.

2022-03-24I love Ali Baba! I work nearby and I get it all the time for lunch. My friends at Ali Baba always hook me up with a generous Greek salad with chicken and pita, and plenty of babaganoush on the side. For $10, you absolutely cannot beat it. Did I mention how tasty? 2019-10-31I walked passed this place a few times. The location is very small, blink and you will miss it. I ate here two days in a row. Enjoyed my salads very much.
