The Kerala menu is delicious and excellent!! But all the other North Indian dishes we ordered including biriyani was very bad. Everything on the menu is very pricey compared to other Indian places in the area. The veg biriyani had no masala in it, just some color and frozen vegetables cooked and blended into the rice. We had to add some pickle at home to try and eat it. So we are giving only a 2 rating.
Absolutely awful food. We decided to give them a try today after about a year. The management and chef have recently changed. Every thing we ordered except the rice was awful. The dosa was like rubber, paneer like plastic , the curries were dripping with oil and the sambhar should be called something else. The masala in the dosa was stale. Save your money and don’t bother going here. This place should close down
We come to Udipi at least every other week and recently it just hasn’t been the same. I believe there is new ownership because the 3 curries we’ve been getting for the last 3 years all taste awful. Today was our second go at trying them with the new name and I have to say it will be probably be our last as none of the curries tasted even remotely like what they used to. Very disappointed
I am posting this review with-in a couple of hours of visiting this restaurant, for the first and the last time. I have never visited an Indian restaurant with as bad testing food as this one served. This is not even a mediocre Indian restaurant. Gobhi Manchooriyan was a total waste. I have prepared Gobhi Manchooriyan myself many times and 10 times better testing than theirs and I don’t even call myself a cook. Mattar Paneer was floating in oil, mattar was raw and tasted aweful. Garlic Naan and Chana Masala was somewhat okay, but again, it was just okay. The size of Aloo Paratha was for bigfoot not humans and it was all dry and completely uncooked, breaking into pieces and dry stuffing rushing out. Again a total waste. All the Udipi Cafe restaurants I have visited all across the US, all have been very good, except this one. This one was exceptionally bad.
New managment, new chef, not good food. Save your stomach even frozen food tastes better. Sp. Spring dosas had nothing special about it didnt like it at all( didnt eat it at all). The potato filling on the masala dosa was too salty and the coconut chutney did not have enough salt in it. I promise to never return. Sorry if you call yourself a south Indian restaurant you need to know the difference between Rasam and Sambhar( Sambhar consistency was of Rasam, god knows how Rasam will be).For gods sake please please make your employees wash the sticky floor and clean tables after customers leave.( the server was handling glass water cups with hands he moped the tables with and then puts them upside down on the table) Health hazard waiting to happen.
I ordered pani-puri and they give me puri with onion and cilantro. secondly, I ordered naan received fully burn naan with bed smell. before I went there that time taste was good now terrible test...never order again. half food put it in trash and charged me 40 bucks..
So sad. This used to be our favorite Indian restaurant, but everything has changed. All the recipes for the dishes we usually order are different. The palak paneer was more cream than spinach, and the paneer was rather hard. Malai kofta was just plain bizarre. Everything was much creamier and oilier than it has been in the past. Veg korma tasted like heavy cream and crunchy English peas... What happened, Udipi?Customer service is kind of hapless, too. A formerly great restaurant gone weird.
Expensive for what it was. We placed the order online just to find out that that online orders dont work. The food was mostly bland. Half of our order landed in the trash. If a restaurants windows and door look filthy upon arrival, the entire place could probably use a deep cleaning. Once and never again.
This place used to serve great food. Last visit was very disappointing. Ghee Masala dosa was good (used to be amazing), vada sambhar was horrible, coffe was below average. Not sure whether management or cooking staff has changed, but there is a clear drop in food quality.
This location has no manager on-site and the customer service is deplorable. I placed an order online yesterday and called to confirm before i drove across town to pick it up. The employee who answered the line said they were closing early and could not fulfill my order. When I asked for my refund, she said she did not know how to do it but I could pick my order up the following day. I adamantly asked to speak to a manager but she said there was no manager there and she did not have a number to reach them. She continued to say she could not help me and hung up on me when I advised that I wanted my money back. I called back from a different number and there wa laughing in the background. The same employee said she would issue the refund right away. I just called and she again said there is no manager and she cannot figure out how to refund my money. Her end solution was to offer to Zelle my money to me but I have NO faith that it will happen. This is an awful experience and I plan to blast them all over social media as well as contact the BBB
Worst food and worst restaurant we have ever dined in ever on atlanta for 3 decades period. We went to this restaurant based on someone’s recommendation for a buffet. Restaurant open at 12 but we were there around 12.30 and they were still setting up food tables, no one greeted us for 5 minutes or so and after 15 minutes also we saw couple of folks were waiting getting up to get food from the buffet table which is very small. Food was absolutely a junk and no taste at all. Idli, vada, noodles, even salad tasted like mud no taste or horrible taste. No water was served, no service horrible food. The even more shocking part was buffet was 20 dollars each and we ended up coughing up 43 dollars for 2 and we hardly could eat anything at all. It was a day time robbery and we came back so disappointed and empty stomach. We will never ever recommend this place for anyone. Please do yourself a favor.
Food was awful and the table we were served at was dirty and we cleaned it ourselves. Chef must have changed because this place used to be one of my favorites, now not anymore. This place needs a name change ASAP. It does not represent Udupi cuisine by any means and it seems to be run by someone that wants to denigrate my culture.
Not the same Udupi we all loved. Since the mgmt change in Jan, it’s gone downhill. Online orders don’t get to the restaurant. They don’t answer the phone. They don’t have half of the items on the menu. Service is pathetic. Quality has declined big time. Perfect recipe to shutdown a business.
Burnt Sambar, stale Dosa, unsalted chutney. You rather find Dosa batter and make it yourself before coming here. Also this place has false advertisement. Management has changed and then name of this place is called Chackos, not Udupi. They are still using Udupi name to attract customers.
The worst place to go ever! Please stay away from this horrendous restaurantManagement change has ruined this place, it used to be so much betterCustomer service is BADThey are understaffed and food quality is patheticWe were served Vegetable Uttapam which was basically normal dosa with frozen mixed vegetables sprinkled on top
We had high hopes going here readings the reviews etc. And then I found a groupon and I was hoping it will be as good as it claims to be. Very disappointed. My husband ordered gobhi manchurian and it was far from what we have had. It was small pieces of flowerets with lots of coloured flour and were really tasteless. Even the sambhar and chutneys isn’t taste authentic. I would not recommend this restaurant. In addition it took them forever to get our bill sorted since we returned gobhi. The service was generally poor.
Very small and packed place. My husband is very foodie and he has a great expectation for food taste, but in Udipi ,very disappointing. Quality and quantity both are very poor. We ordered chat, dosa, soup, Manchurian, all tasteless and waste of time as well as money.i will not recommend Udipi if you are hoping for good and tasty food because end of the day you feel disappointed.
The manager here is so kind and sweet. He served is what we needed and answered all of our questions. Be aware of the fact that the food is served with extra plates, because it is assumed that the food will be shared. And let me say that YES YOU SHOULD SHARE because it was absolutely amazing!! We all got to try each other’s food and loved it. This is my new favorite place to eat.
Called them up to place TO GO order. They picked up after 3 rings, after picking the call, when I asked for a take away service, they straight away disconnected the call.Anyways i was driving near by so visited the place to pick up. What I saw was understaffed and inexperienced management.Food ordered tasted decent. (I dont like to taste raw ginger in my Sambar).During this pandemic, i felt restaurant needed help in multiple areas.
Pathetic management. I ordered thru ubereats, even after an hour I dont see an update.I went to restaurant myself as they didnt pick up d calls, then I got to know that the restaurant didnt accept my order as they r busy with many folks. They could have cancelled it atleast instead of not making any update.I felt bad for the lady at the counter, she is managing all alone with little to no help. The restaurant is short staffed and I had to wait for 2 hours to get my order.Food is fine.
Horrible food. There is no effort to make the food at least taste decent. I am sure with quality of food this place wont last for another year. Employees dont care about customers concern. We ordered idli and dahi vada. Idlis were rubbery sambhar had raw inion smell. Dahi vada had so much sugar in it it was inedible.
I absolutely lovED this restaurant. The food has always been amazing i have had my birthday dinner here with almost 20+ people! We drove almost an hour to come and enjoy. But we could not help but to feel uncomfortable on this particular visit. We were told to seat ourselves no one was coming to our table to serve us when he finally came my husband had to ask for water and menus although the couple behind us came in 10 minutes after us was serverd with water, menus, and asked to take their order and everyone just kept walking by us. When we werent ready to order it took a very long time for the one person who would come to our table to come back but we watched how everyone around us were being served and helped. It wasnt until we decided not to dine with then the pregnant women decided to finally acknowledge us and she asked us did we order food and dang near walked us out the door I feel to make sure we paid but being there almost 30 minutes with barely any service we decided it was just best to leave. We have been here so many times and never have we been treated so poorly or ignored. I wish them the best but we will not be returning.
The food, ambience and hygiene is terrible in this place now! The management and cooks have changed. Its no longer the Udipi Cafe it used to be. They are just keeping the name to get the old customers back or so, but once we they go, theyll figure out what has changed.....The food they serve here now is a disgrace to the name Udupi itself!
Classic udipi ... Dosais are the best .. It was a fantastic experience. They are very carefully handling the pandemic situation. However I did take the risk for the sake of those crispy dosai. Dosai delivered is only better than not eating dosai for 10months! I would encourage all to give this place a visit ... Its pretty empty these days so enough of social distancing. Njoy your lovely paper dosa.
I had food in various Indian restaurants but this is my one of the most favorite restaurant. Super clean, beautiful inside, run down outside and the service is very polite. Staff are really nice and helpful with selection for those who want it. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering what you get. Its a heaven for vegetarian peoples. Cant say enough about the place and highly recommend it.
We ordered sizzlers Paneer Tikka and Gobhi Manchurian, we all three felt it was challenging and fully dominated by garlic. Nil flavors except the pinch of garlic. Palak Paneer had uncooked tomatoes, onions with the spinach. It was very flat that we didnt feel any taste. The Hot and Sour Soup was good. The worst part were the naans which were frozen naan bought from Grocery stores and just tossed on the pan and served !! We know what fresh naans are and these were just rubbery and chewy. I was ashamed in front of my guest from neighborhood. We drove 18 miles to this place in expectation of some great food as Udipi has a reputation. Though the ambiance is good and servers were nice but they could have been adds-on had the food been upto the mark. We could spend 100 bucks for good taste but these 60 were pinching.
Just 1 star to write review. Pathetic service and ok ok type food. We got food but dont have spoon to eat. After 10 min of waiting in we got spoons. We had Indian food at India, so we know the delicious taste but dont know why they (all Indian restaurants) cant provide that taste over hear, as all spices and raw food easily available. Everywhere you go, you will find only 5 sabji (indian curry) or max to max 7 which include Daal also.😆😆, where in India you will get list of curries in full 2 pages in the menu. And also every dish have their own taste. They have amazing ambience that food smell. Here after so many year we cant have that. Though there are many Indian people and also Indian food lover.
Worst service ever. No one bothered to take order for 15-20mins even after reminding 3times ourselves. Food is very ok. After 25mins of waiting they came to just tell us, they dont have dosa available. Will never come to this restaurant again. We ordered Gobi Manchurian which was half cooked. Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I came with my family before closing and I asked for gobi Manchurian and they said they didn’t have it and then I asked for garlic naan with paneer and said they had naan but no paneer. What was I supposed to eat my nana with because they said they had no curry. We came before closing and he stated since we are closing soon they don’t have much which is unacceptable as we came hear to eat. I’m disappointed.
I’ve lived here for two years and I can’t believe I’ve never tried it despite driving past it all the time! We ordered an assortment of food, and everything was excellent. It was also nice to see a restaurant focusing on vegetarian dishes. This is going to become one of our go-to places for a quick healthy meal when we don’t want to cook.Despite a small mixup with my order (a person mistakenly picked up my online order before I arrived), the owner quickly helped figure out the problem, and remade our order very quickly despite having a lot of other people in and out picking up orders.
This was the worst take out Indian vegetarian food I’ve ever had. The rice tasted like it had boiled a little too long. My curry chickpea and spinach dish was spicy and flat in flavor all at the same time. The Naan was over fried. I have 2 stars because the food was prepared quickly and well packaged.
This has been a favorite dining place for us for years. However, last 2 experiences were horrible (1 Order Pick up and 1 dine-in experience)1. Naans were not fresh and seemed like warmed up frozen naans2. Chutneys etc were below par3. Water is sevred in styrofoam glasses for dining experience4. They dont bring check to the table and they dont tell you that you need to go to front to pay. Just keep sitting and waiting5. Never received ToGo boxed and decided to just leave
I was so excited to come here, but I was immediately disappointed. The customer service right from the beginning was terrible -- we waited a long time after being seated and after being handed the menus, no one came to take our order until we called them over ourselves quite a bit later. I would understand this if the restaurant was busy, but there were only two other patrons in the entire restaurant. Furthermore, the servers taking our orders were rude and continually ignored our table (and other tables). After receiving our orders, we noticed that the masala dosa was severely undercooked and when we let a server know, he asked us how that was possible as they made the dosas on a flat grill. Not only did his response make no sense, it was also incredibly rude (especially with the tone he used) and further dampened the tone of our entire dinner. Finally, when it came time for dessert, the servers took over half an hour to give us the rasamalai which they brought from the fridge (it should have been brought in much less time as it was premade). The rasamalai itself wasnt cooked properly with the milk being overly thick, etc. Overall, I was so upset and would definitely tell anyone considering this restaurant that it is not worth their time or money.
We were visiting out of state and were in a large crowd. Without much notice we called up and the staff were very helpful to arrange a table for us. It was already crowded but the server made sure we maintained enough distance for safety. they also offered complimentary idly as the order was taking longer to process. we really liked the food. we wished they could serve thalis over the weekdays as we were craving for thalis and no other restaurant nearby serves that. overall very happy with our dosas, manchurian and hakkah noodles.
I have eaten here 3 times so far. Its good food... Its just a far commute from where I live. Only one complaint during our first visit there was some rudeness when dealing with differing cultures. (Hence only 4 stars)... I am well acquainted with Indian culture and cuisine. And did witness some biased behavior. Even with this said it wasnt bad enough to stop me from returning.
Ordered Dahi Vada today and the taste/ quality was not good. The nearby restaurant where we find better quality is closed on Mondays so thought of trying again here. The experience here has been on and off both on Dine In and pick up orders. Some times its ok and sometimes very disappointing.
We ordered catering of idli and sambar since we had guests over. As soon as we opened the container, a horrible burnt smell came out and you could taste that it was burnt. The idlis were misshapen and dry. We were all very upset and contacted Udipi to make this right, but they refused to do anything even though they gave us bad, spoiled food. We returned the food back to them and they refused to do anything. Very disappointing and would not recommend!
This is a top 5 restaurant in my book. Visited after long time due to COVID and this still as good as new restaurant!!! Taste - Perfect 👌🏻, Ambiance - Perfect 👌🏻, Location - Perfect 👌🏻, Value for Money - Perfect 👌🏻.Masala Dosa, Chat and Mango Lassi are Awesome. They have lot of options and Jain food is also available. Its truly real Udupi café with 100% Authentic Indian taste.
Waited for 15 minutes to get the order as no one was there to take the order also once the food was ordered after 15 minutes the staff came and said the dosa which we ordered was not available, looks like everyone is just running around with no plan this is not how you run the service based industry.
I wish I had taken pictures! I went to this place over 10 years ago when they were in Decatur and found them again today after googling. My husband and I went and had a delicious dinner. I was sad because we were the only people in the restaurant but at the same time I was glad to have social distancing. Udipi has an extensive vegetarian menu and its made so lovingly. We had the udupi idily and then the appetizer sampler. Garlic naan. Aloo gobi and vegetable korma. The coffee is amazing. We had so much food we could even bring home. The rice was cooked flawlessly and Jai our waiter was a delight.Even though its not really close to home we plan to make this a regular spot again. Im glad I found them. I missed them.
I placed a catering order for September 13th with pickup time of 7pm. Paid in cash $200 and got no receipt. After insisting on some kind of confirmation Jay gave me a hand written paper of the food details. Ok so after receiving the food my guests threw the idlis as they were bitter in taste and seemed like undercooked. The noodles were super spicy and had no salt in it. We specifically told him to make it just the way you prepare in general. The dosas were supposed to be individually packed as promised by Jay but were not. We called him the same evening and all he said was “I will talk to my staff”. Next afternoon I went to the restaurant to drop the idli’s so he could check for himself but the door was closed so I called and asked him to open the door but he wouldn’t. I told him that I got the whole tray of idlis and some noodles for him to check and he refused to take it. I left it at the bench outside the restaurant and told him I’m doing that. The minute my car was out of the parking lot I saw someone open the door and he took the tray inside. I was amazed to why he wouldn’t let me in when I went in the operational hours. Really Really bad customer service and food. Will never order from this place again.
The flavors of these dishes unfolded in my mouth like a flower. Everything was beautifully presented, and everything was incredibly fresh. It was easy to see the actual whole foods that were used to prepare the dishes, and the sauces were creamy but not oily. The ambience was very nice too, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Its a great Indian place to eat if you are vegan-- many dishes can be served to suit you and the staff knows the difference between vegan and vegetarian. Very helpful ;) very delicious! Am absolutely going back, and kind of salivating thinking about it right now.
I called them to place an order, then got there 30 minutes later, they said they haven’t been informed to prepare the order from the person who answered the phone! Ridiculous, right? I had to wait another 15 minutes there to get the order. The food was okay, too spicy for me, I wouldn’t recommend it because there are still many other options with a better quality and the same price range.
This is by far one of if not the best Indian restaurants Ive ever been too. The fact that it is vegetarian makes it even better. The selection and quality of the food and spices is bar none. I also cannot say enough positive things about the staff. Everyone is incredibly warm, helpful, and attentive.Additionally if you decide to order out, the delivery service and ordering app is incredibly well laid out and easy to use. I cant say enough good things about this place.-Norman
Delicious food and wonderful staff. I went with my mom on Labor Day and was extremely pleased with the service and food. They have an amazing assortment of vegan foods and all of them taste so good. I ordered the Coconut Dosa and the Samosas and they were perfect! The Spiced Tea was one of my favorites. My mom got the vegan South Indian Dinner Thali and loved it too. I would 100% recommend this place to everyone and anyone. The owner and his wife are extremely helpful and super nice. We are planing to go back very soon. This is the best Indian restaurant that I have ever been to!
Had ordered food for my friends baby shower. Menu and price were perfect.Service was awesome and all staff were very accommodating. We had an amazing time with superb food. All dosas specially Spring dosa was super awesome. Aloo bondas and Samosas were delicious.Even the Gulabjamuns were so yummy. Highly recommended!
Visited this place during a trip from California. The ambience was nice and the service was quick. We requested some additional curries and they promptly served. Try the south Indian Thali for lunch. I really loved it.Being a native from Udupi, I felt the food was authentic and very close to my home food back in India
Great south indian food and very courteous staff. Their Coconut Rava Masala Dosa was mouth watering. The fresh coconut makes the dish amazing. Their Sambhar is among the better ones in the area. The Idly is super soft and melts in your mouth. Overall, I believe the new management has really improved the standards of this Vegetarian restaurant.
It breaks my heart to do this, but I have to change my previous 5-star rating. This was one of my favorite restaurants since moving to Atlanta with authentic and delicious South Indian food. However, I believe management has changed and the quality is not as good. When I went today, the dosa was soggy and bland, the papad was soft and lifeless, and the overall quality was lower than usual. In addition, the service, which usually was top-notch, was lacking. We were rushed into ordering despite not being near closing time nor when it was particularly busy, and no one really talked to you during the mall. We were given the check withougt asking before we could even order the teas we were going to have after dinner. I had hyped the place up to my in-laws from Bangalore so we came for dinner, and I left embarrassed.
Had some vegetarian and vegan friends in town and found this place on Google. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, the service was really excellent. They even talked about regional Indian cuisine and where the dishes originated. There was a separate menu for vegan diets, which was particularly helpful. Everyone enjoyed!
As a vegetarian, this place is a paradise for me! Clean, airy, spacious, welcoming, and food that has the correct blend of spices to bring out the savory tastes of South Indian dishes, and not too expensive. The food is always filling but never bloats my stomach. Most Indian buffet (Udipi is a-la-carte) give me a bloated feeling which I never enjoy; but Udipi always fills my stomach (heart and soul) and never bloats it.The lunch & dinner Thalis are always a fantastic deal, the other items are also terrific.A note about the service - always smiling, polite, and informed staff.
I love any place I dont have to make sure there isnt meat in the food. There was some Indian dishes I really like that I couldnt find on the menu but the lunch specials are a great deal, the staff was super nice and Im sure someone who was more familiar with Indian food would appreciate it more. My boyfriend who usual hates Indian food said it wasnt bad and he loved the bread...
I like Indian and Asian foods and was looking forward to some great food. What I found was quite the opposite. This place is horrible. It smells like an ashtray. The menu doesnt have pictures nor good descriptions of the food. I asked my waiter to make a recommendation. He mumbles something I couldnt understand. He pointed to something on the menu and said. Youll like, its good I threw caution to the wind and agreed to what he suggested. I was expecting something spicy with lots of flavor. What he brought me was a dish with a large greasy puffy piece of bread. Under the bread was a small metal bowl with chickpeas covered it a light sauce. On the side were several large chunks of onions, several slices of jalapenos and a dried slice of lime. One of the worst meals Ive ever had. I do not recommend this place.
I am a vegetarian and I have loved this place for almost a decade now...What I love, and what makes this is place so, so cool is; that even when I have not been in a few month (or years) --- I am always remembered and greeted with a warm welcome back! The food is unbelievably good, like I image The Hundred-Foot Journey food tastes --- you can taste the freshness of the spices and expert blends...With the new management the look and menu options have been updated to another standard of excellence above all. The staff like I said will treat you like family...I simply love this place and always leave feeling nourished body and soul!Esther
What an amazing restaurant! If you really wish to eat authentic south Indian food, this is your go to place! Great food, great people.. We had Jerin as our server and not only did he welcome us with a smile, but he ensured that we got what we asked for. Wonder why this restaurant has such low rating. I would highly recommend this place.. Also, try the Royal South Indian combo.. You wont be disappointed!
Did not really like the food the chutney was bland as well as the sambar. Not much flavor to the food. Dosa was ok not the best I have had. The best item was the Paneer Sizzler. The coconut chutney and Sambar definitely need an upgrade with more flavor. Its the base side item to all with Indian dishes.
I have a new FAVORITE spot! Not only is it Indian food but it’s vegetarian! I was sold just from checking their website. When I walked in I was immediately greeted with smiles. I felt like I knew them already. My server was so patient with me. There were a few menu items that I was not familiar with and he explained in detail. That was so helpful to me.I got the royal South Indian thali. It was a delight! Each curry was jam packed with flavor. This is where some other the other Indian places go wrong. Either they use too much or too little spice.Udipi Cafe has the right combination! I will absolutely return with friends. #ashsaidit
This place is below average at best. The prices are at par with other restaurants in Atlanta which have much better ambiance and food. While we were having dinner indoors, we were constantly pestered by flies. The menu was primarily dominated by south Indian dishes, but they had a few north Indian dishes in their menu. Trusting other reviews, we ordered a tomato soup, a paneer dish and couple of dosas. The tomato soup was miserable and served cold. The dosas were okayish but the paneer was horribly prepared... not even close to what it should have been. We understood that this is primarily a south Indian restaurant but we have been to several other south Indian restaurants with amazing north Indian food, here in Atlanta. To sum it up, you should go to this place only if you are being forced to by someone else and if that someone else is paying your bill.
Loved this place. Tried the North and South Indian Thalis. Both were so vividly different from each other. This is such a refreshing change from the same old typical Indian restaurant items. Food is very wholesome, healthy, tasty and good in quantity. Personally, I liked the South Indian Thali better because it is so rare to see these items in a restaurant. Would definitely recommend!
Disclaimer: We used GrubHub for delivery, so did not test the restaurant itself, only the food. They are not afraid to spice it up! Really good food, and plenty of it. We plan to eat at the restaurant in the near future. We had the appetizer assortment platter, and liked all the appetizers in that, as well as the sambar soup. We followed with the bindhi fry, the aloo ghobi, and the paneer makhani, all of which were quite good and fairly spicy.
Udipi offers South Indian food of every variety though it serves North Indian food also and that also taste well. One should go for chole puri it’s tasty. The location of this restaurant is not that effective even after being visible from the street. It’s not that crowd and attract less people but taste is good. Ambience is also fine. It is located in Duluth . Music and television makes the atmosphere lively. Servers are welcoming and serves food in less waiting time.
Been meaning to write a review for a while. One of the best restaurants Ive been to and a delight for vegetarians like me in particular. The range of items on the menu is great, the staff and the manager are super friendly and make you feel like its home, and the food is so tasty and delicious. Only regret is its a bit far away from where I live. Definite must visit!
Ordered 4 dosas and requested hotter sambhar, order was taken but when they served the food we realized sambhar wasn’t served extra hot as requested and nobody likes to eat dosa with lukewarm sambhar. When i complained, they simply said they cannot do anything about it. They could have told me that when i was placing the order. I indeed wasted my money right there.Neither I am going there again nor suggesting anyone to go.
Haven’t been here the whole year due to covid but wanted to write this because I miss their food lolSuper knowledgable about vegan options, great service every time, they’re super friendly and kind and have no problems answering questions about the menu items. I’ve been here twice or maybe three times and each time was so so good. Definitely try the appetizer sampler and a dosa.
I went here after like more than a year and I can see, the quality of food has gone down for sure. The sada dosas were okay . Spring dosa was not good at all ,there was no crispness and the onions were bitter and no other veggies, but I just ate it as I was too hungry. I had an impression that the sambhar and chatni were not fresh at all. The sambhar tasted non traditional and Chatni as if brought out from deep fridge.Honestly I was very disappointed as I went to this place with lot of expectation as in the past I always had good experience.Went there on Monday evening dragging my whole family 25 miles drive. They had $3.99 any dosa, and honestly I did not go there for the price and just for same old good mouth watering taste. Perhaps the same old saying you get what you pay for .So , did the Udipi guys compromised on the quality for price ? any way , I lost the charm and may not come here again.Do not go for medu vada ,as it was too oily and dark. Do not go for Spring dosa , I could had made better at home.the Paper dosa was awesome nice crispy and huge.Idly was okay ,as my kid completely finished that dish.Gulab jamun was good as my son liked very much.
We ordered through grub hub today and the food was the worst.. chole batura was horrible. It was definetely a week back cooked, We had diarrhea the whole day and idly was the worst one I’ve ever had till now.. Sambhar was a disaster too.. please do not order from here..
Udipi has always been my go-to place to quench my South-Indian food cravings.Having tried multiple Udipi locations in the past, I feel like this location could work just a little on the size/ quantity of the dosa. The texture and taste is descent but could be better. For example, the Mysore masala dosa. The Mysore chutney/paste that goes on the dosa was very bland to me.On the contrary, I love how they serve in steel plates along with the traditional banana leaf. Very impressive!!To me, details matter and minute details indeed make a difference. The service is good and so is the ambience. Staff is approachable and very friendly.Decently priced food.Keep it up!! There is always room for improvement.
Was looking for a vegetarian place near my place. this place came up on google with decent reviews. visited it in labourday. place was already crowded when we arrived for lunch. i must say I dont think i would visit this restaurant again. we ordered a thali. the food arrived late that too after reminding the server about our order a couple of times. it seemed they forgot our table existed. We were not served with water and no came to check at our table if we arr ok with our order or if we needed any thing. we left the place thirsty. food was average. buttermilk and soup was decent. i wont call it a very good place to get vegetarian food. but this can be ine of my unlucky days that i good bad service. let me know if anyone had got similar service.
Quality not so great after new ownership. Yesterdays paneer sizzler was stale and all we got was justification for being stale (that it has to be marinated the previous day) instead of any corrective action. Not acceptable. The quality of this place a couple years back was much better.
Taste is good, ambiance is ok. We reached around 230 PM and the wait staff was eager to see us off as soon as possible. Most important the portion of dish is way to less for the price being charged for a vegetarian dish. I may give one more try after some time to see if the portion increases or not.
We went to have swaminarayan food after viewing a ad online swaminarayan and Jain food, asked the server for no onion no garlic food server replied we have limited items. We ordered stater soup and kids idli, soup tasted like hot tomoto juice. Asked the server is this the way the soup is made, server replied yes no reaction. Idli was good, not time to order main dieses, asked the server what you have for no onion no garlic options server said no option, we ordered uttpamma and after we finish eating owner show up and owner we do have option for no onions no garlic main. Server was not aware of it. Me and owner had a talk almost 15-20 min but there is no apology. In short to say this place is ok to eat but make sure you inform the management that you don’t like the service or the food. They will not read your face.
12/2017 Update : Udipi keeps getting better. Its been a while and the food was fresh and delicious. Very kind and friendly staff. Highly recommend.I go here regularly because the staff are super friendly and I love the South Indian dishes. Try a the special spring dosai! Tell them I say hello!!
Offers good vegetarian options and some specialties but mostly overpriced especially the Thalis which costs similar to a lunch buffet elsewhere. The server was mostly disinterested and we had to keep waiting for him to look up from his cellphone inorder to get water refilled or to catch his attention in other occassions this time we were there.
Food doesnt taste good. I got a watery liquid which they said was sambar, which was awful. Other dishes also did not taste good as well.If you want to have authentic South Indian food, there are numerous alternatives within a mile from this place. Avoid this restaurant.
Experiencing new cuisine can be as intimidating as it is exciting, but Udipi Cafe will embrace you from the moment you walk in, take away all anxiety and leave you with a delightful South Indian culinary experience. If you have experience with Indian food you have probably encountered dosas; the dosas at Udipi are probably the among best you have experienced in the Atlanta area (or anywhere in America). In addition to the dozens of dosa combinations available, the menu is filled with other fantastic South Indian specialties like savory fried donuts called vada and steamed lentil and rice cakes called iddly. Sweet, sour, spicy flavors abound here and all are richly infused with aromatic spices; you wont encounter bland or boring here. The best part about the experience is that the staff is so friendly and approachable that you will feel completely comfortable asking for help deciphering the extensive menu. Better yet -ask for recommendations, sit back and enjoy. When considering the quality of the food and service, this is by far my favorite Indian restaurant and one of my favorite all time favorite restaurants in the Atlanta area. When you are looking for exotic flavors served in an accessible and friendly setting this is the place for you.
Food was not at all authentic, especially the South Indian Thali. It is not worth paying $14 just to eat rasam and sambar with rice and a couple of other side dishes. The person that was supposed to greet us at the entrance was arrogant. Other than our server, who was a woman, the rest of the staff was in a hurry to send us off. The food is pathetic. The dosa is just served with some watery sambar and very little coconut chutney. They need to stick to their Kerala food (fish curry). Not authentic South Indian dishes. There are two men and one woman on staff. The tall man needs to improve on his manners. We are not going back. Food was really bad. Our stomachs felt bloated because of excessive use of baking soda. When ever they see just 2 people they pressurize you to leave quickly. Shame on them.
I requested thin & crispy dosa. Ignorant cook even didnt try to make it thin or crispy. Sambar was in 2. Oz bowl 🍲 same as chutney. Server never comes to table to even ask hows food or everything. If filling water once called service, they are fail even in that. After finishing our soup server told us to hold spoon for Sambar, wow who does that anymore? Not coming back. Please Improve for sake of food services sake!
The food and service was amazing and the service was quick. The food was very tasty and it exceeded my familys expectations. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking foward to dining at a vegetarian indian restaurant. The staff and the owners are very friendly people as well.
So this was my first visit to Udupi cafe, and as it was purely veg restaurant, so I went with my friends and thought of ordering Chinese as I am also pure veg.And I ordered veg manchurian and veg Hakka noodles and fried rice, but seriously we didnt like any of them, it was full of oil and nothing. We were really very disappointed with this 😔
Very nice and clean and well maintained Restaurant. I am from India and this was my 2nd visit to the Restaurant. Last year during the month of June, 2017 I visit the Restaurant. Very good service and tasty and mouth watering dishes. All the best to the Staff and owner of the Restaurant.
The best part is very friendly and courteous staff. We ordered dosai , medu vada and royal South Indian thali for dinner.I found food on oily side. I had brinjal curry in one of bowls and 1/4 of the bowl was filled with oil. Avial could have used more flavor and coconut. Rasam was really spicy. Not the best avial I had. Poori could have used a paper towel tap. Curd was plain even with no seasonings. why would I come to restaurant to have plain yogurt. Papad was fried and not roasted. Basically not a healthy version of food.Dosai was good and so was medu vada. Medu vada was fresh.Food came quick. Service was prompt.I wish on food they could have done better.
I have been there few times, every time hoping food will be better this time, but every time I returned disappointed. Food quality and taste does not stand for the name. Looks like owners have changed couple of times. I would avoid going this place, unless they work hard to improve quality and service.
Had high excitement at first and it all disappeared after having kothu parota. It had very less parota and I wonder who would put high amount of cabbage in it? Also the seasoning for it was poor. To compensate for that terrible experience, we got bisi bela bath. Had good expectation for it since it is kannada style restaurant. I must say that it was the worst rice dish I ever have tasted. You guys cannot make bisi bela bath by adding its masala, rice and some veggies. It was too watery. If you guys are not sure about a recipe, please dont sell them and it will affect your brand. Please 🙏.
Is this the same restaurant that was previously located just off Hwy 78, next to the Turkish Hookah Lounge? If so, I’ve been under the impression that they closed, but it appears they only moved!I’m excited to eat here again, as it was truly some of the most tasty Indian vegetarian noms! NomNomNom. Challenge accepted!
Traditional udipi food. Lots of ghee though. Masala dosa is very good. Royal thali is an assorted plate with rice and little portions of South Indian favorite side dishes. The items and taste of this restaurants thali is different from other Indian restaurants thali. I like the onion dosa as well. Sambar vada is tasty. Comes with authentic udipi coffee. Servers are friendly. Is on the main road. Parking is ok. Happy to have udipi food close by.
My neighborhood go-to spot. Had to slow down with bidding every week because I started to gain weight lolupdate: I would like to return, but the last time I visited (didnt review) I was provided less than acceptable service. It is a shame that Indian (brown non white) look down at black americans. I used to go almost weekly, but tired of getting the youre black... youre nothing service...I was raised vegetarian and Southern Indian Cuisine has been my favorite since age three..Shame I cant find a good Indian restaurant in Atlanta that wont judge me by the color of my skin.I miss Woodlands in Takoma Park, Md!@!!!!!!!
In summary, this is overall my favorite place to go for an inexpensive meal with my wife involving a dosa and some Chai. For white Anglo Americans, we both eat a lot of Indian cuisine. My wife makes her own Tea Masala and I make Dal and various other Indian dishes at home. We enjoy Samosas or Samosa Chaat and Chai every Friday. But we are not Indian and we have to avoid stuff that is mouth-burning hot. So we especially love Indian dishes that are a bit toned down for Non-Indians. This is what Udipi does especially well - without sacrificing quality one iota.
I have been going to Udipi several years now. I had many issues in the past by a particular server and I did my best to encourage him but he just provided us bitter experience. so, i stopped going for a while. Again I started this year and frequently visit and pay good tips too and also encourage them for better quality of food. In spite of all this, they served me stale sambar in the south-indian thali. stale and stinking sambar. I was surprised. ! I personally cook at home and love sambar and vegetables as we all do. But, I was shocked to get a stale sambar with stale vegetables. I had this nausia feeling after eating there and wish I could vomit the food. that is it. that is it. I will NO LONGER go there. I have decided for moneys worth and quality olive garden is the best choice for me. I am a pure vegan.
Im a meat eater, but my girlfriend is vegan.Udipi really satisfies when we want to go out. The dishes are great, there are plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians, and if you like meat, theres plenty of hearty, rich food to try. You wont miss your steak eating here.
The place is crisp and clean, the service is professional and prompt and the food is excellent and authentic. Why dont I give 5 stars? Well there should always be a reason to improve!I will definitely go back for the food, for the service and also to see if they are warm and friendly to all customers alike. I guess you get the hint.
Ordered Gobi paratha and 2 chapatis for to go. They took 25 mins to provide the same. 2 chapatis costs 3$ and 1 Gobi paratha costs 3$. After 25 mins, we got 2 de-frozen chapatis and 1 de-frozen gobi paratha. They have average dosas, for everything else ,avoid this place.

2022-04-23Yesterday was craving for Udipi’s Spring dhosa and we used to love Udipi sambhar, Spring dhosa and idli hence we went there. Didn’t know the ownership has changed. When we arrived we saw lot of people so were impressed. When we were seated….no one arrived to serve us water and to take the order. 1 lady was running around trying to do everything so seems like they are understaffed. When I called the lady to place the order, she said they didn’t have idli or vada even though it’s Friday night and we reached there around 8. Food arrived after a long time and it didn’t taste like it did before change of management. We ordered spring dhosa and rasam. The quantity was good for both Spring dhosa and rasam and chutney was good as well. But Spring dosa was very soft, half of sambhar was filled with tomatoes that too big size and rasam had lot of oil in it. We were disappointed because of the long wait time…had to wait 30 minutes and then when the food came, we didn’t feel like eating because it didn’t taste like before but we ate because we were hungry. Glad we ordered 1 spring dhosa and not 2. Udipi should improve Spring dhosa recipe ie go back to the recipe they had before. For rasam, the taste was good but they should put less oil. Giving them 2 stars for quantity.

2022-03-06Very good food, however their FB page is not updated on any regular basis making it hard to know if they are open. Just a few simple things keep this place from being really outstanding.

2021-08-14Well, we only came here because gokul had no dine in. I unfortunately had the worst experience. I have been here before and it was definitely not this bad. The food was mediocre. That is not even the issue. We came in and we ordered food. No one even gave us glasses for water until we asked. We ordered a thali and soup and they were out of them. Then, we had to eat two of our orders with out the plates because, well they never gave it to us. Then we ordered biryani. They forgot about it and then we reminded them only to be served with something that looked like the below pic. My husband told them to change their name of biryani because it tasted that bad. Never coming back here again after this experience.

2021-11-05This colorful so called Diwali Thali is fully watery Sabji. They charged $15 for veggie plate which does not even taste average. I think it’s misleading to call it as Udipi as we thought it’s authentic udipi one.

2022-05-01SCAM!!This place, which I visited after 3 yrs with my family is the worst place you can be for a dine in restaurant. The management changed, which we realized only after getting in and the whole vibe is horrible. There is one lady running everything and she is horrible at guest services. The menu says pure vegetarian. The name says vegetarian and the banner has Krishna on it. Nothing is changed but they offer only half the menu and also ask if you want non-vegetarian food. Wow! Horrible. Anyways, we got only 2 items of the 4 we wanted and it was basic / masala dosa and idli. Both were the worst and believe me, I am very patient generally with food and hospitality specially because of the pandemic. But, the person tells me maybe you don’t like the taste. There was no salt in the Sambhar and the whole food tasted stale. It was cold and stale. On providing this feedback, the lady said maybe you didn’t like it and this is how we do things. Wow! Then, instead of providing me with an invoice, she asked me to come to the counter and pay. We were in and out in 25 mins and that includes the time to sit down, order and get out. I would give this a zero star if that was possible and I would be surprised it they remain in business more than 6 months if this continues. We had the worst experience I have had at any restaurant (any style/cuisine) in Georgia.Forgot to mention- the menu prices and actual bill is totally off. It was 40% higher than the menu prices when we got the bill.Thank you.

2021-10-24Updating review after visiting the place in a year. Their food quality has gone down significantly. They were definitely short staffed, had to ask for refills several times, for was below average too. They have one pouch of sugar between three coffee. Rava Dosa was part cooked and too thick.
